  • Herein, we report a method that combined "aptamer-locker" DNA with CRISPR/Cas12a-based biosensing for sensitive and rapid melamine analysis. Three strategies were harnessed for designing the DNA sensors that were well characterized by circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) in the absence and presence of melamine. The detection parameters were optimized to achieve good analytic performance. As a result, a limit of detection (LOD) as low as 38 nM was achieved, which is below the threshold (1.0 mg/kg) of allowable melamine in infant milk products. In addition, the sensors show high selectivity for melamine against other analogues such as cyanuric acid, ammeline and ammelide. Moreover, our method was effective for rapid melamine analysis in whole milk samples, with or without sample pretreatment, in less than 20 min. Subjects were aged 14-30 and met criteria for the Attenuated Positive Symptom Psychosis-Risk Syndrome (APSS) delineated in the Structured Interview for Psychosis-Risk Syndromes (SIPS). Suicidality was assessed using the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS). Volumetric MRI scans were obtained on a 3T Phillips scanner. MRI data were available for 69 individuals (19 CHR without SI, 31 CHR with SI and 19 healthy control subjects). CHR individuals with SI had thicker middle temporal and right insular cortices than CHR individuals without SI and healthy control subjects. The location of these findings is consistent with neurobiological findings regarding suicide in syndromal psychosis. These findings underscore the potential for the use of brain imaging biomarkers of suicide risk in CHR individuals.Grape stalks are a lignocellulosic biomass, which is a very complex material, whose easy and profitable fractionation to obtain its basic components is still not available. Therefore, alternative ways to try and make use of grape stalks are currently being explored. In the present study, the possible use of dried and milled grape stalks as filler in bio-composites was assessed using polybutylene succinate as a basic polymer. The tensile specimens produced using 10% grape stalk powder as it is and functionalized through pre-extrusion acetylation and silylation, and silylation in situ were characterized for their structural, mechanical, thermal, morphological, and color properties. The bio-composites showed to be stiffer than the control polymer, with an increase of Young's modulus from 616 MPa to 732 MPa in the specimens obtained with acetylated grape stalk powder. This led to a potentially new method to valorize by-products of the wine industry such as grape stalks in order to recover raw materials which could prove useful in the biomaterials and bio-composites sector.

The inhibitory activity of all the seven isolates on the production of nitric oxide (NO) stimulated by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in mouse RAW 264.7 macrophages was evaluated. Of these metabolites, dysiscalarones A-B (1-2), honulactone A (6), and phyllofolactone I (7) showed inhibitory activities with respective IC50 values of 16.4, 18.5, 2.6, and 3.7 μM, which suggested that the γ-methylated α,β-unsaturated γ-lactone might be the functional group. In addition, all the seven metabolites showed no significant cytotoxicity against lung cancer PC9 cell line at the concentration of 20 μM.

  • Postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) is a major complication in pancreatic surgery and can cause considerable postoperative morbidity. Advanced surgical-technical approaches to prevent POPF did not yield a substantial improvement. To investigate innovative treatments, experimental animal models of distal pancreatic resection and pancreaticoduodenectomy are of fundamental importance. After a failed attempt to replicate a previously described rat model for pancreatic fistula induction, we proceeded to distal pancreatic resection with splenectomy to provoke pancreatic leakage and generate a suitable animal model.

    Distal pancreatic resection with splenectomy was performed in 40 rats. The rats were sacrificed on postoperative day (POD) 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, or 10, and the abdominal cavity was explored. Ascites probes were collected pre- and postoperatively for the detection of pancreas amylase and lipase. Tissue samples from the naïve pancreas (POD 0) and the postoperatively harvested remnant were evaluated histolts on nonstatistical examination, and it was therefore not considered for further analyses.

The objective of this study was to assess whether this naturally occurring IL-6 has long-lasting effects on brain plasticity and function. Therefore, pregnant rats were given either an IL-6-neutralizing antibody (IL-6Ab) or vehicle during the third week of pregnancy. Newly born (doublecortin) and mature neurons (NeuN) were monitored in the hippocampus of adult male and female offspring. Prenatal IL-6Ab led to an enhanced number of newly born and mature neurons in the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus of male but not female adult offspring. This enhanced neurogenesis was associated with an increased propensity in memory acquisition in male offspring. Blunting the naturally occurring IL-6 during pregnancy did not have a significant long-lasting impact on astrocyte cell density (GFAP), or on anxiety-like behavior as assessed with elevated plus maze and open field tests. Taken together, these data suggest that maternal IL-6 contributes, at least in part, to the programming of the brain's development in a sex-dependent manner.
    Epidural blood patches (EBPs) are rarely performed at the high-level cervical levels. The aim of the study was to investigate the imaging features, safety, and effectiveness of CT-guided percutaneous EBPs for high-level cervical cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage.

    Twenty-five patients with spontaneous high-level (C1-C3) CSF leakage on MRI and CT imaging, including 2 patients with intracranial epidural hematoma caused by CSF, were treated with EBP. Two needles were inserted into the C1-3 bilateral epidural space. The needle location was confirmed by injection of both 3-5mL sterile air and a diluted iodinated contrast agent to delineate its spatial diffusion. The patient's blood 11.1 ± 3.1 mL was slowly injected to make a patch; the distribution in epidural space was monitored with intermittent CT scanning.

    The typical manifestation of CSF leakage was the high signal outside the C1-3 cervical dura on MR T2W fat inhibition images and low density in cervical muscle space on CT images. Twenty patients suffered from headaches and were able to sit and walk 24 h after the operation. Four patients, with partial relief of headache and a small but persistent CSF leakage, were re-treated with EBS. One patient underwent a third operation because of a persistent CSF leakage on MRI.

  • To analyse the effects of confinement among people with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and their caregivers over the course of the COVID-19 crisis and to evaluate contemporary changes in medical assistance and patient preferences.

    An observational cross-sectional study designed as a self-reported web-based survey was conducted over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic.

    A total of 769 subjects participated in the survey (603 people with T1D and 166 caregivers). Changes in glycaemic control were reported in 66% of cases, weight gain in 40.4% of cases and decreased exercise levels in 65.4% of cases. Of the cohort, 53% maintained contact with the healthcare team, and 23% received specific information related to COVID-19. Emotional support was requested by 17% of respondents. Regarding telemedicine, 97.9% agreed with its use with the following preferences regarding the future telephone call (84.5%), video-call (60.6%) and platform devices (39.7%).

Communicating spatial directions poses specific challenges to this process, in part because the format through which the information is communicated must be interpreted to match the visual scene the navigator is viewing while traversing that space. Previous research has suggested unique representations exist for spatial directions within and across modalities. Behavioral data reveal, for instance, that interpreting images seems to require spatial information, whereas words or schemas can be processed using a visual-matching strategy.     Fontan associated liver disease (FALD) is attributed to the limitations of the Fontan circulation, resulting in congestive hepatopathy. The technique and outcomes of transjugular liver biopsies (TJLB) in Fontan patients warrant definition as part of a rigorous FALD surveillance program.

    Four year review of patients with Fontan physiology who underwent a TJLB during surveillance catheterizations. Biopsy site, technique, histology, angiography, hemodynamics, and complications were reviewed to assess correlation of biopsy scores with simultaneously obtained catheterization hemodynamics.

Technical success 100% (125/125), all samples diagnostic. 17% (21) accessed via the left internal jugular vein, secondary to right IJ occlusion or Heterotaxy syndrome.     We report 12-month clinical outcomes for 10,822 patients hospitalized with first-time ACS between 2015-2016 and enrolled in the All New Zealand Acute Coronary Syndrome Quality Improvement (ANZACS-QI) registry, with a focus on people of working age (defined as <65 years).

  • Successful endovenous thermoablation relies on transmural vein wall ablation. We investigated the pattern of thermal spread and tissue carbonisation from RadioFrequency-induced ThermoTherapy (RFiTT) at different powers and pull **** methods, using a porcine liver model.

The study indicated a propensity of countries with lower-middle-income and high-income groups, and of the agricultural and manufacturing sector toward research and development of manually operated equipment. A thorough study of the equipment design process revealed that health and safety was the prime motivator in the pre-design phase, an experimental prototype approach was most utilized in the design phase and a direct measurement technique was most frequently used in the post-design phase. Conclusion. The study highlights the scarcity of research in the integration of ergonomics into the design of manually operated equipment among countries with the low-income group. This study also promotes the use of virtual design and assessment techniques for cost-effectiveness.

N=9,498 (mean age 14.2 years; 52% female) were administered the tests, and abbreviation was accomplished using methods answering two questions what happens to measurement error as items are removed, and what happens to correlations with validity criteria as items are removed. The first was investigated using quasi-CAT simulation, while the second was investigated using bootstrapped confidence intervals around full-form-short-form comparisons.

Six ELISA assays were evaluated, including one confirmation assay to investigate antibody specificity. We also evaluated one point-of-care lateral flow device (LFIA) and one high throughput electrochemiluminescence immunoassay (CLIA). Results The ELISA specificities ranged from 84% to 100%, with sensitivities ranging from 75.3% to 90.0%. The LFIA showed 100% specificity and 80% sensitivity using smaller sample numbers. The Roche CLIA immunoassay showed 100% specificity and 90.7% sensitivity. When used in conjunction, the Euroimmun nucleocapsid (NC) and spike-1 (S1) IgG ELISA assays had a sensitivity of 95.6%. This study aimed at exploring the genetic and environmental impacts on correlation between leisure activities and cognitive function in the Chinese middle- and old-aged twins.

    Cognition measured using a screening test (Montreal Cognitive Assessment, ****) and leisure activities including intellectual and social activity were investigated on 379 complete twin pairs of middle- and old-aged twins. Univariate and bivariate twin models were fitted to estimate the genetic and environmental components in their variance and covariance.

    Moderate heritability was estimated for leisure activities and cognition (0.44-0.53) but insignificant for social activity. Common environmental factors accounted for about 0.36 of the total variance to social activity with no significant contribution to leisure activity, intellectual activity and cognition. Unique environmental factors displayed moderate contributions (0.47-0.64) to leisure activities and cognition.     The management of the pediatric trauma patient is variable among trauma centers. In some institutions, the trauma surgeon maintains control of the patient throughout the hospital stay, while others transfer to a pediatric specialist after the initial evaluation and resuscitation period. We hypothesized that handoff to the pediatric surgeon would decrease the length of stay by more efficient coordination with pediatric subspecialists and ancillary staff.

    A retrospective review from October 2014 to October 2018 was conducted at our rural level 1 trauma center analyzing the length of stay across all demographics and trauma triage levels before and after institution of a handoff protocol from adult specialized trauma surgeons to pediatric surgeons within a 24-hour window. This knowledge of pathologies detected on chest CT in patients on ICI therapy who present to the ED may guide radiologists in interpreting such imaging. Deaths attributable to psychostimulants with abuse potential have increased in the United States (US) in recent years. Methamphetamine use, in particular, has risen sharply. We evaluated the correlation between amphetamine- and methamphetamine-related case exposures reported to the Michigan Poison Center (MiPC) coinciding with psychostimulant age-adjusted mortality rates from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). We compared amphetamine and methamphetamine exposures reported to the MiPC from 2012 to 2018, queried from ToxSentry database, to MDHHS reports on resident death certificates with attributed death due to "overdose, regardless of intent" and related cause of death attributed to psychostimulants with abuse potential. Linear regression assessed goodness-of-fit. Slope with standard error and adjusted R were reported. Psychostimulants included methamphetamine, 3,4-methylenedioxy-methamphetamine (MDMA), dextroamphetamine, levoamphetamine, and methylphenidate. This study aimed at exploring the genetic and environmental impacts on correlation between leisure activities and cognitive function in the Chinese middle- and old-aged twins. Cognition measured using a screening test (Montreal Cognitive Assessment, MoCA) and leisure activities including intellectual and social activity were investigated on 379 complete twin pairs of middle- and old-aged twins. Univariate and bivariate twin models were fitted to estimate the genetic and environmental components in their variance and covariance. Moderate heritability was estimated for leisure activities and cognition (0.44-0.53) but insignificant for social activity. Common environmental factors accounted for about 0.36 of the total variance to social activity with no significant contribution to leisure activity, intellectual activity and cognition. Unique environmental factors displayed moderate contributions (0.47-0.64) to leisure activities and cognition. Bivariate analysis showed highly and positively genetic correlations between leisure activities and cognition (r =0.80-0.96). Besides, intellectual activity and cognition presented low but significant unique environmental correlation (r =0.12). Genetic factor had the moderate contribution to leisure activities and cognition. Cognitive function was highly genetically related to leisure activities. In some institutions, the trauma surgeon maintains control of the patient throughout the hospital stay, while others transfer to a pediatric specialist after the initial evaluation and resuscitation period. A retrospective review from October 2014 to October 2018 was conducted at our rural level 1 trauma center analyzing the length of stay across all demographics and trauma triage levels before and after institution of a handoff protocol from adult specialized trauma surgeons to pediatric surgeons within a 24-hour window.   • Uncontrolled and inadequately managed asthma substantially reduces Quality of Life (QOL) and can lead to premature death. The aim of this study is to understand the role of montelukast in improving quality of life in asthmatic patients by comparing it with placebo.

    This prospective, single-arm, interventional study was conducted from September 2019 to February 2020 in the pulmonology outpatient department of a tertiary care hospital in Pakistan. All patients were prescribed montelukast (10 mg once daily).

    At day 28, participants had a higher score on the Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire-Standard (AQLQ-S) overall and in all sub-domains compared to day 0. The improvement was significant overall and for the sub-domains of symptoms, activity limitations, and environmental stimuli.

We identified the most frequent tweet content categories for each influencer. Results We identified 48 radiation oncologist influencers; 79% were male, 75% were based in the United States, and 94% were affiliated with an academic center. Among them, 44% had high H-indices of ≥21, an average value in academic faculty for full professors or department heads. There were no correlations between H-index and Twitter metrics such as the number of individuals the influencer was following (p = 0.58), the number of followers (p = 0.66), the number of tweets (p = 0.88), and the number of likes (p = 0.54). During the period around ASTRO 2018, the mean number of tweets per influencer was 4437 (range 87-93,000). Conclusion Current radiation oncology influencers are predominantly North American males from academic institutions. A correlation between academic productivity as measured by the H-index and Twitter metrics was not demonstrated. Mortality rates were pooled using a random effects model. Risk ratio (RR) and its 95% confidence interval (CI) were also calculated using the same model. Another meta-analysis was then performed to assess the difference in mortality between current and former smokers. Results Ten studies with a total of 11,189 patients were included.

To ensure public health, it is imperative to characterize the risks related to these toxins. The present study aims to conduct a dietary exposure assessment of citrinin (CIT) and ochratoxin A (OTA) in the Belgian population using consumption data of a variety of foodstuffs. A total of 367 food samples from different food categories were collected in Belgian supermarkets and analysed for CIT and OTA using a validated liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry method. Daily CIT and OTA exposure to the Belgian population was calculated based on the analytical results and food consumption data in three age categories (3-9, 10-17 and 18-64 years), obtained from a national food consumption survey. Furthermore, a risk characterization was performed for CIT, in which no intake values exceeded the tolerable daily intake (TDI) of 200 ng kg-1 bw day-1, indicating no health risk. However, a CIT intake level of 187 ng kg-1 bw day-1 was detected for children in the age category of 3-9 years in the worst case scenario for rice, indicating that rice consumption could contain a potential health hazard for young children. For OTA, a potential health risk was detected in several food categories (biscuits, croissants, rice, flour, meat imitates, herbs and spices) in the higher percentiles (P99) or at maximum found concentrations when calculating the margin of exposure (MoE) for neoplastic effects. An attempt to perform a cumulative health risk assessment for both toxins was done. Although a high number of uncertainties is involved, combined margin of exposure (MoET) values indicated a potential health risk related to the combined exposure to CIT and OTA. For the first time, our study demonstrated the potential health risks of CIT and OTA after individual and combined exposure, in particular related to rice consumption. Although patients with AERD traditionally develop significant upper and lower respiratory tract symptoms on ingestion of cycloxgenase-1 inhibitors, most of these same patients report clinical benefit when desensitized to aspirin and maintained on daily aspirin therapy. This Work Group Report provides a comprehensive review of aspirin challenges, aspirin desensitizations, and maintenance aspirin therapy in patients with AERD. Identification of appropriate candidates, indications and contraindications, medical and surgical optimization strategies, protocols, medical management during the desensitization, and recommendations for maintenance aspirin therapy following desensitization are reviewed. Olfactory hallucinations, however, are rare and therefore the semiology, localization and lateralization characteristics are underdetermined. All patients recruited underwent at the diagnosis of ADHD, neurological examination and EEG recording in the department of Neurology of Charles Nicolle Hospital. Medical data including family history, ictal semiology and ADHD features were assessed.

    Thirty patients were enrolled in our study. Mean age was 12.27 years with a sex ratio of 3.28. Mean age at diagnosis of ADHD was 6.6 years. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disordercombined subtype was seen in 18/30 patients, Hyperactive/ Impulsive subtype in 7/30 patients and Inattentive subtype in 5/30 patients. Epilepsy-disease was reported in 20% (Seizures preceded the diagnosis of ADHD in 3/6 cases and appeared after an average of 3.67 years in 3/6 cases). Mean age of seizure onset was 7 years. Seizure-types were generalized (motor 4/6 cases, absence-type (1/6 case)) and focal (1/6 case). Electroencephalography revealed Epileptiform discharges in 30% with frontal and left dominance. Interictal discharges were significantly associated with younger age of onset (p 0.02), inattentive subtype (p 0.04) and intellectual disability (p 0.04). These discharges was not associated with epilepsy.

  • In vitro, the mRNA and protein expression of osteogenic related factors in BMMSCs cultured on a CSZP coating, such as ALP and OCN, were significantly higher than those on bare Ti. In vivo, there was no enhanced bone formation but increased macrophage type 1 (M1) polarization on the CSZP coating. IL-4 could induce M2 polarization and promote osteogenesis of BMMSCs on CSZP in vivo and in vitro. In conclusion, the CSZP coating is an effective scaffold for BMMSCs osteogenesis, and IL-4 presents the additional advantage of modulating the immune response for bone regeneration on the CSZP coating in vivo.The work presents a novel glucose oxidase@Cu-hemin metal-organic frameworks (GOD@ Cu-hemin MOFs) with a ball-flower structure as bienzymatic catalysts for detection of glucose. The GOD@Cu-hemin MOFs exhibits great stability as compared with free horseradish peroxidase and GOD toward harsh conditions because the ball-flower-like shell of Cu-hemin MOF effectively protects from GOD. Thus, the GOD@Cu-Hemin MOFs can be used in external harsh conditions such as high temperature and acid/base. The GOD@Cu-hemin MOFs is capable of sensitive and selective detection of glucose via peroxidase-like of Cu-hemin MOFs and GOD by using 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) as a substrate. Under the existence of glucose, O2 is reduced into H2O2 via GOD@Cu-hemin MOFs. The produced H2O2 as well as Cu-hemin MOFs oxidize TMB into blue oxTMB which shows UV-Vis absorbance at 652. The absorption intensity of oxTMB linearly increases with the increasing concentration of glucose from 0.01 to 1.0 mM with detection limit of 2.8 μM. An integrated agarose hydrogel film (Aga/GOD@Cu-hemin MOF/TMB) sensor is rationally designed for colorimetric detection of glucose. The sensor displays a response range of 30 μM-0.8 mM with a detection limit of 0.01 mM. The result indicates that the Cu-hemin MOFs are an ideal carrier for the encapsulation of enzymes.In this report, a novel flower like-structured CuFe oxides was directly grown on graphene nanosheets supported nickel foam substrates (CuFe-O/GR/NF) via a hydrothermal method followed by an additionally pyrolysis process. The different morphologies consistent with varied synthesis conditions, along with their catalytic activity were discussed. The CuFe-O/GR/NF material was successfully applied as an electrocatalyst for sensing glucose with a wide linear concentration range of 0.0079 μM-21.504 μM, sensitivity of 0.368 mA μM-1 cm-2, and limit of detection of 0.0079 μM. Impressively, the CuFe-O/GR/NF showed **** higher electrocatalytic activity, lower overpotential and greater stability as compared to that of mono Cu-O/GR/NF or Fe-O/GR/NF synthesized by the same method. The water contact angle of the VMPSf membrane was 22.45% lower than that of the PSf membrane. A focused determination of platelet morphology was obtained using scanning electron microscopy. Meanwhile, we evaluated the effects of a VMPSf membrane on platelet adhesion. We observed that the VMPSf membrane could reduce the number of adhered platelets without altering their spherical or elliptical shape. The PAR1 levels in VMPSf membranes were 7.4 MFI lower than those in PSf membranes, suggesting that this modified membrane can effectively inhibit platelet activation. Activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT, 5.3 s extension) and thrombin time (TT, 2.1 s extension) reflect good anticoagulant properties. Recalcification time (80.6 s extension) and fibrinogen adsorption (9.9 μg/cm2 reduction) were related to antithrombotic properties. We measured the dynamics and reversibility of the deswelling and subsequent aggregation processes. Furthermore, we show that the highly concentrated pNIPAM gel NPs reversibly form bulk hydrogel networks of varied interconnected porous structure. We show, that in case of drying pNIPAM gel NPs above the LCST, it is possible to obtain films with 20-fold increase in storage modulus (G') compared to hydrogel networks measured at room temperature. They exhibit temperature hysteresis behavior around LCST of 32.5 °C similar to pNIPAM films.     To explore the clinical characteristics and prognosis of patients with hypertension underwent emergency surgery for type A acute aortic dissection (TA-***).

    The present study enrolled 712 consecutive patients diagnosed with TA-*** and received aortic repair surgery at our hospital between January 2014 to December 2018. Clinical characteristics of enrolled patients were retrospectively reviewed. Patients were grouped by preexisting hypertension history and matched with propensity scores matching method. Patients' clinical characteristics were compared and analyzed before and after propensity scoring. To identify predictors for long-term mortality rate, Kaplan-Meier survival estimation and Cox proportional hazard analysis were performed.

    A total of 492 patients (69.1% of all patients in the cohort) were included in the hypertensive group and they had increased age and weight compared to patients in the non-hypertensive group. Between two groups, preoperative leukocyte count and serum creatinine level wereat TA-*** patients complicated with hypertension had increased age and weight compared to non-hypertensive patients. Concomitant hypertension identified upon hospital administration was an independent risk factor for long-term survival in TA-*** patients while did not influence the 30-day mortality rate.
