The relationship between viruses, mesenteric lymphoid hyperplasia, and intussusception is a confirmed relation. ACE2 is the key receptor required for SARA-COV-2 to enter the host cells. ACE2 has been also found in the brush border of the intestinal mucosa, as well as it is a key inflammatory regulator in the intestine. This may suggest that SARSA-COV-2 could invade the respiratory tract as well as gastrointestinal tract or both. Few case reports documented the presentation of COVID-19 as intussusception in children. In the light of the wide-spread of corona virus, performing COVID-19 tests for children with intussusception can help linking the two entities. Development of gastrointestinal symptoms in COVID-19 positive children should raise concern about the development of intussusception.The advent of the COVID-19 pandemic has stretched most healthcare systems to the point that if no adaptations are made, failure will most likely happen. The Philippine healthcare system, with its meager resources, is very **** vulnerable to this. During the start of the pandemic, Bataan General Hospital and Medical Center has been converted to a COVID-19 hub, leaving cancer care and treatment displaced. We describe our experience in the feasibility of using a religious facility as an interim place for continuing oncology treatment. An outpatient chemotherapy unit was set up using the main hall of the Residencia Sacerdotal, a religious facility, in Bataan. General practices for infection control, workflow and service delivery were in accordance with existing guidelines. A total of 56 adult patients and 22 pediatric patients were seen for chemotherapy during the period of April 28 to July 15, 2020. A total of 144 chemotherapy sessions for adults and 190 sessions for pediatric patients were done. Fifty nine patients (43 adults and 16 pediatric) were tested for COVID-19 RT PCR (GeneXpert®), as baseline prior to chemotherapy, and all were negative. During the course of treatment, adverse events were noted including infusion reactions, hematologic complications which resolved without any complications. No nosocomial infection was recorded both for patients and healthcare workers. To conclude, in the COVID-19 Pandemic Era adapting to the situation is the best way forward. In our setting, continuing cancer care in a religious facility is a feasible alternative.The COVID-19 outbreak has came in existence in late December 2019 at Wuhan, China. COVID-19 has shown impact on social and economic life, but there is no alternate until the drug discovery. In medicine or treatment of COVID-19 point of views, an integrated approach between modern and traditional medicine system may ensure an early prevention of further viral spread. Based on the symptoms of COVID-19, list of herbs and drugs of Indian Medicine System has been searched and reported. Oral healthcare professionals are at increased risk of infection by SARS-CoV-2. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of COVID-19 in a population of workers who provided services during the COVID-19 pandemic at a dental care and educational institution in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area.
This was a descriptive, cross-sectional study including 358 workers who provided essential services during the first 180 days of the COVID-19 pandemic at the Dental Hospital at Buenos Aires University School of Dentistry (FOUBA). Following epidemiological data, these workers underwent diagnostic testing for COVID-19 (1- nasal or throat swab tests; 2- blood test for enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays Elisa Daniel; 3- commercial rapid serology test).
Three diagnostic tests were implemented. Rapid tests were performed on 290 subjects, with 255 negative results (88%; CI95 84%-91%) and 35 positive (12%; CI95 9%-16%); ELISA on 317 subjects, with 308 negative (97%; CI95 95%-98%) and 9 positive (3%; CI95 2%-5%); and PCR on 204 subjects, with 196 negative (96%; CI95 92%-98%) and 8 positive (4%; CI95 2%-8%). There were 358 subjects who were evaluated by ELISA or PCR, with 342 negative results (96%; CI95 93%-97%) and 16 positives (4%; CI95 3%-7%).
For this sample of dentists, dental assistants and nonclinical personnel, the weighted prevalence of COVID-19 was 4%. Similar studies should be conducted at other dental care facilities in order to evaluate the worldwide impact of COVID-19 on the dental care community.

In fum2 mutants, photosynthesis and growth were less impaired under -Cu-Fe conditions than in wild-type (WT) seedlings. In particular, levels of photosynthetic proteins, chloroplast ultrastructure, amino acid profiles and redox state were less perturbed by simultaneous Cu-Fe deficiency in lines that cannot produce fumarate in the cytosol. Although cytosolic fumarate has been reported to promote acclimation of photosynthesis to low temperatures when metal supplies are adequate, the photosynthetic efficiency of fum2 lines grown under Cu-Fe deficiency in the cold was higher than in WT. Uptake and contents of Cu and Fe are similar in WT and fum2 plants under control and -Cu-Fe conditions, and lack of FUM2 does not alter the ability to sense metal deficiency, as indicated by marker gene expression. Collectively, we propose that reduced levels of cytosolic fumarate synthesis ultimately increase the availability of Fe for incorporation into metalloproteins.
Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) most prominently affects proximal limb and bulbar muscles. Despite older case descriptions, ocular motor neuron palsies or other oculomotor abnormalities are not considered part of the phenotype.
We investigated oculomotor function by testing saccadic eye movements of 15 patients with SMA. Their performance was compared with that of age-matched healthy controls. Horizontal rightward and leftward saccades were recorded by means of video-oculography, whereas subjects looked at light-emitting diode targets placed at ±5°, ±10°, and ±15° eccentricities.
No differences in saccade amplitude gains, peak velocities, peak velocity-to-amplitude ratios, or durations were observed between controls and patients. Evaluation of phantom image quality is an integral component of the quality assurance of SPECT systems. This evaluation often is done by visual assessment of the resolution of known structures of a specified size, such as arrays of cold rods in a warm background. Although this method is rapid and convenient, it is qualitative and is subject to inter- and intraobserver variability. Thus an automated quantitative analysis would be preferable. Several metrics of cold rod visibility have been developed, although their suitability for SPECT quality assurance depends on how well they correspond to visual scoring by experienced observers.
Various metrics of cold rod visibility, derived from either texture analysis or template-based analysis, were investigated. The texture analysis methods measured the normalized gray-level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) energy ("Energy%") and entropy ("Entropy%") of each region and an associated combination of the two ("EnergyEntropy%"). One template-based method measured the rods-arly well for this task, across the range of rod diameters and count levels. The suboptimal interobserver agreement highlights the importance of developing automated algorithms for evaluating scanner performance.Diagnostic accuracy studies play an important role in informing clinical practice and patient management, by evaluating the ability of diagnostic testing and imaging to identify the presence or absence of a disease or condition. These studies compare the relative diagnostic strength of the test or device with a reference standard, therefore, guiding clinical decisions on the reliability of the test, the need for further tests, and whether to monitor or treat a particular condition. Inadequate and incomplete reporting of diagnostic accuracy studies can disguise methodological deficiencies and ultimately result in study bias and the inability to translate research findings into daily clinical practice. The Preferred Reporting Items for Diagnostic Accuracy Studies in Endodontics (PRIDASE) guidelines are being developed in order to improve the accuracy, transparency, completeness and reproducibility of diagnostic accuracy studies in the speciality of Endodontology. The aim of this paper is to report the process unt will be shared with the PDG to inform an iterative process that will result in a series of items that are clear and suitable for inclusion in the new PRIDASE guidelines. Once the PDG has completed its work, the steering committee will create a PRIDASE Meeting Group (PMG) of 20 individuals from around the world. Members of the PDG will be eligible to be the part of PMG. The draft guidelines and flowchart approved by the PDG will then be presented for further validation and agreement by the PMG. As a result of these discussions, the PRIDASE guidelines will be finalized and then disseminated to relevant stakeholders through publications and via the Preferred Reporting Items for study Designs in Endodontology (PRIDE) website (http//pride-endodonticguidelines.org). Periodic updates to the PRIDASE guidelines will be made based on feedback from stakeholders and end-users.

Randomized or nonrandomized clinical trials and retrospective or prospective-controlled longitudinal studies were screened for this systematic review. The Harm 1 haplotype of H. armigera was identified as the predominant Heliothinae pest infesting fresh-market tomatoes. The New World species Chloridea subflexa (Guenée) as well as the exotic Solanaceae-specific species Helicoverpa assulta (Guenée) were not found in our survey. Additional larvae surveys in processing tomato fields during 2013/2014 in Central Brazil also indicated H. armigera as the most abundant Heliothinae species (95%) together with H. zea (4.75%) and C. virescens (0.25%). The occurrence of distinct Helicoverpa species (which are potentially capable of interbreeding) indicates that novel crop management strategies will be necessary in order to minimize damages caused by this pest complex in tomatoes.
The present study aimed to analyze data available of the seroprevalence of Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) among camelids around the world.
The search was performed using seven international databases including Scopus, PubMed, Google Scholar, ProQuest, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, and EMBASE up to 11 October 2018. Random effects model was used to determine the pooled seroprevalence of T. gondii infection with 95% confidence intervals (CI) and analyzed data from four continents. Subgroup and meta-regression analyses were also performed according to continent and gender.
In total, 42 studies out of 3517 published articles involving 14,542 camels from 17 countries were included for the final analyses. The global pooled seroprevalence of T. gondii infection in the Camelidae family was 28.16% (95% CI 23.64-32.68%). Besides, the highest seroprevalence rate was in Europe (49.64%) followed by Africa (37.63%), America (21.76%), and Asia (17.58%). Although autogenous bone grafts are an optimal filling material for the induced membrane technique, limited availability and complications at the harvest site have created a need for alternative graft materials. We aimed to investigate the effect of an rhBMP-2-coated, 3D-printed, macro/microporous CaO-SiO2 -P2 O5 -B2 O3 bioactive ceramic scaffold in the treatment of critical femoral bone defects in rabbits using the induced membrane technique. To this end, we were able to resolve the voltage-dependent entry of single Ptm peptide molecules into the channel. Extrapolation to zero voltage revealed about 1-2 events per second and long dwell times, in agreement with the liposome study. Applied-field and steered molecular dynamics simulations added an atomistic view of the permeation events. Metformin is the exposure of interest, and death, admission, and intensive care unit admission are the outcomes of interest. Metformin was associated with a decrease in mortality from COVID-19, OR 0.32 (0.15, 0.66; p = .002), and in the propensity-matched cohorts, OR 0.38 (0.16, 0.91; p = .030). Metformin was associated with a nonsignificant decrease in hospital admission for COVID-19 in the overall cohort, OR 0.78 (0.58-1.04, p = .087). Among the subgroup with a hemoglobin HbA1c available (n = 1193), the adjusted odds of hospitalization (including adjustment for HbA1c) for metformin users was OR 0.75 (0.53-1.06, p = .105). Outpatient metformin use was associated with lower mortality and a trend towards decreased admission for COVID-19. Given metformin's low cost, established safety, and the mounting evidence of reduced severity of COVID-19 disease, metformin should be prospectively assessed for outpatient treatment of COVID-19.

This cohort study included 1778786 children (913 340 males, 865 085 females, 361 missing data; mean age 15y 2mo, SD 8y 11mo, range birth to 40y) born in Denmark between 1977 and 2016. Cox proportional hazard regression was used to estimate the hazard ratios (HRs) of intellectual disability.
The overall HR of intellectual disability for children with a maternal history of spontaneous abortion was 1.17 (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.12-1.22) and the risk for multiple spontaneous abortions (HR=1.30, 95% CI 1.20-1.40) was higher than for a single spontaneous abortion (HR=1.13, 95% CI 1.07-1.18). When only cases of inpatient intellectual disability were included, the estimates increased slightly the overall HR was 1.22 (95% CI 1.12-1.32), the HR for multiple spontaneous abortions was 1.37 (95% CI 1.20-1.58), and the HR for a single spontaneous abortion was 1.17 (95% CI 1.07-1.28). The rf intellectual disability in later life, regardless of whether spontaneous abortion occurred before or after the index delivery. The findings have clinical implications for targeted early intervention of children with intellectual disability. Intra-articular treatment was started 30 days after the model was induced, with a frequency of 2 weeks for 60 days. Fifteen days after the last application, the animals were euthanized with the removal of the joint tissue for biochemical and histological analysis. The model used was able to mimic osteoarthritis, characterized by the presence of high levels of proinflammatory cytokines, oxidative stress, and degeneration of joint surfaces (Grade III, according to SCORE OARSI). The isolated use of HA or GNPs provided beneficial results to the joint; however, only the group subjected to the association between HA and GNPs showed the attenuation of oxidative stress and reduced proinflammatory markers, with a simultaneous increase in levels of anti-inflammatory cytokines and growth factors.

Lactiplantibacillus plantarum can adapt to a variety of niches and is widely distributed in many sources. We used comparative genomics to explore the differences in the genome and in the physiological characteristics of L. plantarum isolated from pickles, fermented sauce, and human feces. The relationships between genotypes and phenotypes were analyzed to address the effects of isolation source on the genetic variation of L. plantarum. The comparative genomic results indicate that the numbers of unique genes in the different strains were niche-dependent. L. plantarum isolated from fecal sources generally had more strain-specific genes than L. plantarum isolated from pickles. The phylogenetic tree and average nucleotide identity (ANI) results indicate that L. plantarum in pickles and fermented sauce clustered independently, whereas the fecal L. plantarum was distributed more uniformly in the phylogenetic tree. The pan-genome curve indicated that the L. plantarum exhibited high genomic diversity. Based on the analysis of the carbohydrate active enzyme and carbohydrate-use abilities, we found that L. plantarum strains isolated from different sources exhibited different expression of the Glycoside Hydrolases (GH) and Glycosyl Transferases (GT) families and that the expression patterns of carbohydrate active enzymes were consistent with the evolution relationships of the strains. Among them, we recently identified and characterized the ultra-conserved-transcript-8+ (uc.8+), whose levels correlate with grading and staging of bladder cancer. Here, to validate uc.8+ as a potential biomarker in bladder cancer, we assessed its expression and subcellular localization by using tissue microarray on 73 human bladder cancer specimens. We quantified uc.8+ by in-situ hybridization and correlated its expression levels with clinical characteristics and patient survival. The analysis of subcellular localization indicated the simultaneous presence of uc.8+ in the cytoplasm and nucleus of cells from the Low-Grade group, whereas a prevalent cytoplasmic localization was observed in samples from the High-Grade group, supporting the hypothesis of uc.8+ nuclear-to-cytoplasmic translocation in most malignant tumor forms. Moreover, analysis of uc.8+ expression and subcellular localization in tumor-surrounding stroma revealed a marked down-regulation of uc.8+ levels compared to the paired (adjacent) tumor region. Finally, deep machine-learning approaches identified nucleotide sequences associated with uc.8+ localization in nucleus and/or cytoplasm, allowing to predict possible RNA binding proteins associated with uc.8+, recognizing also sequences involved in mRNA cytoplasm-translocation. Lactiplantibacillus plantarum can adapt to a variety of niches and is widely distributed in many sources. We used comparative genomics to explore the differences in the genome and in the physiological characteristics of L. plantarum isolated from pickles, fermented sauce, and human feces. The relationships between genotypes and phenotypes were analyzed to address the effects of isolation source on the genetic variation of L. plantarum. The comparative genomic results indicate that the numbers of unique genes in the different strains were niche-dependent. L. plantarum isolated from fecal sources generally had more strain-specific genes than L. plantarum isolated from pickles. The phylogenetic tree and average nucleotide identity (ANI) results indicate that L. plantarum in pickles and fermented sauce clustered independently, whereas the fecal L. plantarum was distributed more uniformly in the phylogenetic tree. The pan-genome curve indicated that the L. plantarum exhibited high genomic diversity. Based on the analysis of the carbohydrate active enzyme and carbohydrate-use abilities, we found that L. plantarum strains isolated from different sources exhibited different expression of the Glycoside Hydrolases (GH) and Glycosyl Transferases (GT) families and that the expression patterns of carbohydrate active enzymes were consistent with the evolution relationships of the strains. Here, to validate uc.8+ as a potential biomarker in bladder cancer, we assessed its expression and subcellular localization by using tissue microarray on 73 human bladder cancer specimens. We quantified uc.8+ by in-situ hybridization and correlated its expression levels with clinical characteristics and patient survival. The analysis of subcellular localization indicated the simultaneous presence of uc.8+ in the cytoplasm and nucleus of cells from the Low-Grade group, whereas a prevalent cytoplasmic localization was observed in samples from the High-Grade group, supporting the hypothesis of uc.8+ nuclear-to-cytoplasmic translocation in most malignant tumor forms. Moreover, analysis of uc.8+ expression and subcellular localization in tumor-surrounding stroma revealed a marked down-regulation of uc.8+ levels compared to the paired (adjacent) tumor region. To analyze the risk for clinically significant microarray aberrations in pregnancies with polyhydramnios.
Data from all chromosomal microarray analyses (CMA) performed due to polyhydramnios between January 2013 and December 2019 were retrospectively obtained from the Ministry of Health Database. The rate of clinically significant (pathogenic and likely pathogenic) CMA findings in isolated and non-isolated polyhydramnios cohorts was compared to a local control group of 5541 fetuses with normal ultrasound, in which 78 (1.4%) abnormal results were demonstrated. Subgroup analyses were performed by the degree of polyhydramnios, week of diagnosis, maternal age, and the presence of additional sonographic anomalies.
In the isolated polyhydramnios cohort, 19/623 (3.1%) clinically significant CMA aberrations were noted, a significantly higher rate compared to the control population. However, the risk for abnormal CMA results in the 158 cases with mild polyhydramnios (AFI 25-29.9, or maximal vertical pocket 8-11.9cm) did not significantly differ from pregnancies with normal ultrasound. Of 119 cases of non-isolated polyhydramnios (most frequently associated with cardiovascular (26.1%) and brain (15.1%) anomalies), 8 (6.7%) abnormal CMA findings were noted, mainly karyotype-detectable.

This study aimed to compare the first-trimester pregnancy serum total oxidative status (TOS), total antioxidant status (TAS), and serum estradiol levels as well as the olfactory functions assessed using the brief smell identification test (BSIT) of women with healthy pregnancies and those with hyperemesis gravidarum (HG).
In this prospective study, 60 pregnant women in the first trimester of their pregnancies were divided into two groups 30 pregnant women with HG (study group) and 30 healthy pregnant women (control group). The following parameters were compared in the HG group and the healthy controls TOS, TAS, serum levels of estradiol (E2), and olfactory function, which was measured using BSIT.
Both groups were similar in terms of age, gravida, and parity. The mean total smell score was lower in the HG group than the healthy control group (p < 0.05). TOS was significantly higher in the HG group than the control group. TAS was significantly higher in the control group than the HG group (p < 0.05).

To present the step-by-step description of an ejaculation-sparing anatomic photo-selective vaporization of the prostate (PVP) technique. To report the results of a series of ejaculation-sparing versus non-ejaculation-sparing anatomic PVPs.
Sexually active, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) patients undergoing an anatomic PVP between 11/2018 and 2/2020 were included. Patients were divided into group A (ejaculation-sparing surgery) and group B (control group). Baseline, peri-operative and 6-months follow-up data were evaluated. Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and sexual function were assessed through internationally validated questionnaires. Groups were matched by an inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) analysis. Logistic univariable regression analysis was performed to detect predictors of antegrade ejaculation preservation.
Overall, 76 patients were included, among which 15 in group A and 61 in group B. Median (inter-quartile range, IQR) age was 72 (66.5-77) years, median (IQR) prostate volume 63.

In this study, we have taken the advantage of two single-cell RNA sequencing technologies (Smart-seq2 and DNBelab C4) to generate an atlas of 15,115 immune and nonimmune cells from primary tumors and hepatic metastases of 18 colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. We observed extensive changes in the proportions and functional states of T cells and B cells in tumor tissues, compared to those of paired non-tumor tissues. Importantly, we found that B cells from early CRC tumor were identified to be pre-B like expressing tumor suppressors, whereas B cells from advanced CRC tumors tended to be developed into plasma cells. We also identified the association of IgA+ IGLC2+ plasma cells with poor CRC prognosis, and demonstrated a significant interaction between B-cell and myeloid-cell signaling, and found CCL8+ cycling B cells/CCR5+ T-cell interactions as a potential antitumoral mechanism in advanced CRC tumors. Our results provide deeper insights into the immune infiltration within CRC, and a new perspective for the future research in immunotherapies for CRC.Despite a long history of discussion of 'non-stationarity' in dendrochronology, researchers and modellers in diverse fields commonly rely on the implicit assumption that tree growth responds to climate drivers in the same way at any given time. Synthesising recent work on drought legacies and other climate-related phenomena, we show tree growth responses to climate are temporally variable, and that abrupt variability is commonly observed in response to diverse events. Thus, we put forth a 'growth-climate sensitivity' framework for understanding temporal variability (including non-stationarity) in the sensitivity of tree growth to climate. We argue that temporal variability is ubiquitous, illustrating limits to the ways in which tree growth is often conceptualised. We present two conceptual hypotheses (homoeostatic sensitivity and dynamic sensitivity) for how tree growth sensitivity to climate varies, and evaluate the evidence for each. In doing so, we hope to motivate increased investigation of the temporal variability in tree growth through innovative disturbance or drought experiments, particularly via the inclusion of recovery treatments. Focusing on growth-climate sensitivity and its temporal variability can improve prediction of the future states and functioning of trees under climate change, and has the potential to be incorporable into predictive dynamic vegetation models.
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has created significant challenges to healthcare globally, necessitating rapid restructuring of service provision. This questionnaire survey was conducted amongst adult heart failure (HF) patients in the United Kingdom (UK), to understand the impact of COVID-19 upon HF services.
The survey was conducted by the Pumping Marvellous Foundation, a UK HF patient charity. 'Survey Monkey' was used to disseminate the questionnaire in the Pumping Marvellous Foundation 's online patient group and in 10 UK hospitals (outpatient hospital and community HF clinics). There were 1050 responses collected (693/1050-66% women); 55% (579/1050) were aged over 60years. Anxiety level was significantly higher regarding COVID-19 (mean 7±2.5 on anxiety scale of 0 to 10) compared with anxiety regarding HF (6.1±2.4; P<0.001). Anxiety was higher amongst patients aged ≤60years about HF (6.3±2.2 vs. 5.9±2.5 in those aged >60years; P=0.005) and COVID-19 (7.3±2.3 vs. 6.7±2.6 those agee implicated as sources of anxiety.
The aim of this study was to evaluate amino acids as glucagon receptor (GCGR)-specific biomarkers in rodents and cynomolgus monkeys in the presence of agonism of both glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP1R) and GCGR with a variety of dual agonist compounds.
Primary hepatocytes, rodents (normal, diet-induced obese and GLP1R knockout) and cynomolgus monkeys were treated with insulin (hepatocytes only), glucagon (hepatocytes and cynomolgus monkeys), the GLP1R agonist, dulaglutide, or a variety of dual agonists with varying GCGR potencies.
A long-acting dual agonist, Compound 2, significantly decreased amino acids in both wild-type and GLP1R knockout **** in the absence of changes in food intake, body weight, glucose or insulin, and increased expression of hepatic amino acid transporters. Dulaglutide, or a variant of Compound 2 lacking GCGR agonism, had no effect on amino acids. A third variant with ~31-fold less GCGR potency than Compound 2 significantly decreased amino acids, albeit to a significantly lesser extent than Compound 2. In this study, we have taken the advantage of two single-cell RNA sequencing technologies (Smart-seq2 and DNBelab C4) to generate an atlas of 15,115 immune and nonimmune cells from primary tumors and hepatic metastases of 18 colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. We observed extensive changes in the proportions and functional states of T cells and B cells in tumor tissues, compared to those of paired non-tumor tissues. Importantly, we found that B cells from early CRC tumor were identified to be pre-B like expressing tumor suppressors, whereas B cells from advanced CRC tumors tended to be developed into plasma cells. We also identified the association of IgA+ IGLC2+ plasma cells with poor CRC prognosis, and demonstrated a significant interaction between B-cell and myeloid-cell signaling, and found CCL8+ cycling B cells/CCR5+ T-cell interactions as a potential antitumoral mechanism in advanced CRC tumors. Our results provide deeper insights into the immune infiltration within CRC, and a new perspective for the future research in immunotherapies for CRC.Despite a long history of discussion of 'non-stationarity' in dendrochronology, researchers and modellers in diverse fields commonly rely on the implicit assumption that tree growth responds to climate drivers in the same way at any given time. Synthesising recent work on drought legacies and other climate-related phenomena, we show tree growth responses to climate are temporally variable, and that abrupt variability is commonly observed in response to diverse events. Thus, we put forth a 'growth-climate sensitivity' framework for understanding temporal variability (including non-stationarity) in the sensitivity of tree growth to climate. We argue that temporal variability is ubiquitous, illustrating limits to the ways in which tree growth is often conceptualised. We present two conceptual hypotheses (homoeostatic sensitivity and dynamic sensitivity) for how tree growth sensitivity to climate varies, and evaluate the evidence for each. In doing so, we hope to motivate increased investigation of the temporal variability in tree growth through innovative disturbance or drought experiments, particularly via the inclusion of recovery treatments. Focusing on growth-climate sensitivity and its temporal variability can improve prediction of the future states and functioning of trees under climate change, and has the potential to be incorporable into predictive dynamic vegetation models. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has created significant challenges to healthcare globally, necessitating rapid restructuring of service provision. This questionnaire survey was conducted amongst adult heart failure (HF) patients in the United Kingdom (UK), to understand the impact of COVID-19 upon HF services. The survey was conducted by the Pumping Marvellous Foundation, a UK HF patient charity. 'Survey Monkey' was used to disseminate the questionnaire in the Pumping Marvellous Foundation 's online patient group and in 10 UK hospitals (outpatient hospital and community HF clinics). There were 1050 responses collected (693/1050-66% women); 55% (579/1050) were aged over 60years. Anxiety level was significantly higher regarding COVID-19 (mean 7±2.5 on anxiety scale of 0 to 10) compared with anxiety regarding HF (6.1±2.4; P<0.001). The S5 values from FFPE biopsies for all kits were significantly correlated with those obtained from their paired exfoliated cells. For the EZ DNA Methylation kit, we observed an average increased methylation of 4.4% in FFPE. This was due to incomplete conversion of DNA (73% for FFPE vs. 95% for cells). The other kits had a DNA conversion rate in FFPE similar to the cells (95%-97%). S5 performed well at discriminating less then CIN2 lesions from CIN2+ lesions on the FFPE with all kits given optimized adjustments to the cut-off. The area under the curve (AUC) for S5 on FFPE was not significantly different from the paired cells (0.74-0.79 vs. 0.81). The best sensitivity and specificity were obtained for EZ DNA Methylation after the adjustment of the cut-off to reflect its lower conversion rate. Consistent methylation results can be obtained from FFPE material regardless of the conversion kit used. The goal of this study was to devise a novel low-resource examination that tested the anatomical knowledge and technical skill of early undergraduate medical students in a gross anatomy course. The team-based ultrasound objective structured practice examination (OSPE) was created as a method for assessing practical ultrasound competencies, anatomical knowledge, and non-technical skills such as teamwork and professionalism. The examination utilized a rotation of students through four team roles as they scanned different areas of the body. This station-based examination required four models and four instructors, and tested ultrasound skills in the heart, abdominal vessels, abdominal organs, and neck regions. A Likert scale survey assessed student attitudes toward the examination. Survey data from participants (n = 46) were examined along with OSPE examination grades (n = 52). Mean and standard deviations were calculated for examination items and survey responses. Student grades were high in both technical (96.5%). and professional (96.5%) competencies with structure identification scoring the lowest (93.8%). There were no statistical differences between performances in each of the body regions being scanned. The survey showed that students deemed the examination to be fair and effective. Mechanical circulatory support (MCS) results in substantial improvement of prognosis and functional capacity. Currently, duration of MCS as a bridge to transplantation (BTT) is often prolonged due to shortage of donor hearts. Because long-term results of exercise capacity after MCS are largely unknown, we studied serial cardiopulmonary exercise tests (CPETs) during the first year after MCS implantation.
Cardiopulmonary exercise tests at 6 and 12months after MCS implantation in BTT patients were retrospectively analysed, including clinical factors related to exercise capacity. A total of 105 MCS patients (67% male, 50±12years) underwent serial CPET at 6 and 12months after implantation. Power (105±35 to 114±40W; P≤0.001) and peak VO2 per kilogram (pVO2/kg) improved significantly (16.5±5.0 to 17.2±5.5mL/kg/min (P=0.008)). Improvement in pVO2 between 6 and 12months after LVAD implantation was not related to heart failure aetiology or haemodynamic severity prior to MCS. We identified maximal heart rate at exert information for the growing group of long-term MCS patients as this is critical for the quality of life of patients.Fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIm) is an optical spectroscopic imaging technique capable of real-time assessments of tissue properties in clinical settings. Technical and methodological advances over the last two decades have enabled the development of FLIm instrumentation for real-time, in situ, mesoscopic imaging compatible with standard clinical workflows. Herein, we review the fundamental working principles of mesoscopic FLIm, discuss the technical characteristics of current clinical FLIm instrumentation, highlight the most commonly used analytical methods to interpret fluorescence lifetime data and discuss the recent applications of FLIm in surgical oncology and cardiovascular diagnostics. Finally, we conclude with an outlook on the future directions of clinical FLIm.

In this review, a selection of the most recent reports (2016-up to present) on metal chelators of MTDLs with multifunctionalities is presented. These compounds enable the hitting of several AD targets or pathways, such as modulation of specific biometal ions (e.g., Cu, Fe, Zn) and of protein misfolding (β-amyloid and tau protein), anti-oxidant activity and AChE inhibition. The properties found for these hybrids are discussed in comparison with the original reference compounds, some MTDLs being outlined as leading compounds for pursuing future studies in view of efficient potential applications in AD therapy.The oxidative stress response is critical for malignant cells. It plays a dual role by helping cancer cells survive and proliferate but also causing apoptosis and apoptosis-- like cell death. The oxidative stress response is characterized by tight regulation of gene expression by a series of transcription factors (OSRts; oxidative stress response transcription factors). In this communication, we review the role of OSRts, notably NRF2 and p53 as well as other transcription factors that modulate the response. We discuss how hierarchal the oxidative stress response is and controls 'live or die' signals. This is followed by a discussion on how plant-derived molecules, including polyphenols, which are described both as prooxidants and antioxidants within the cancer cells, have been reported to affect the activities of OSRts. Deriving an example from preliminary data from our group, we discuss how plant-derived molecules might modulate the oxidative stress response by causing structural perturbations in the proteinaceous transcription factors, notably Nrf2 and p53. We look at this information in the light of understanding how plant derived molecules may be used as lead compounds to develop modulators of the oxidative stress response.Abiotic stresses in plants such as salinity, drought, heavy metal toxicity, heat, and nutrients limitations significantly reduce agricultural production worldwide. The genome editing techniques such as transcriptional activator-like effector nucleases (TALENs) and zinc finger nucleases (ZFNs) have been used for genome manipulations in plants. However, clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated protein 9 (Cas9) technique has recently emerged as a promising tool for genome editing in plants to acquire desirable traits. The CRISPR/Cas9 system has a great potential to develop crop varieties with improved tolerance against abiotic stresses. This review is centered on the biology and potential application of the CRISPR/Cas9 system to improve abiotic stress tolerance in plants. Furthermore, this review highlighted the recent advancements of CRISPR/Cas9-mediated genome editing for sustainable agriculture.

Drawing on a review of international media and documents, we discuss three main domains of public health action in which private technology companies and public health authorities have converged contact-tracing, epidemic modelling and public health communication to manage the 'infodemic' of misinformation about the new coronavirus. Critics have raised concerns about how the digital response to Covid-19 may threaten privacy and enable greater state surveillance and control, and the possibility that semi-automated decision-making may exacerbate existing discrimination and inequalities.

The lasting impact of positive role models was highlighted. The importance of socialisation and entering a community of practice were identified as drivers of professional development. Role modelling and mentorship between students and GP tutors were pivotal as part of early clinical years and clinical LIC. This seemed to have a positive influence on graduate's consideration of general practice as a future career pathway.Conclusion Professional identity formation occurs for medical students who participate in early patient contact programmes and longitudinal integrated clerkships in GP. Factors such as positive role modelling, good mentorship, communities of practice and a positive learning environment appear to be the main contributors to this process. Experiences as part of longitudinal integrated clerkships are meaningful for graduates, regardless of postgraduate specialisation choices. Educators should acknowledge this when designing medical curricula to ensure that students' professional identity formation is optimally facilitated. The results showed no significant differences in hemoglobin (HB), hematocrit, mean corpuscular volume, platelets, red blood cell, and leukocyte cell counts between both the exposed farmer and the control group. In contrast, a significant decreased in mean corpuscular HB, mean corpuscular HB concentration, eosinophils, and basophils counts were observed. The presence of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in plasma has been linked to disease severity and mortality. We compared RT-qPCR to droplet digital PCR (ddPCR) to detect SARS-CoV-2 RNA in plasma from COVID-19 patients (mild, moderate, and critical disease).
The presence/concentration of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in plasma was compared in three groups of COVID-19 patients (30 outpatients, 30 ward patients and 30 ICU patients) using both RT-qPCR and ddPCR. Plasma was obtained in the first 24h following admission, and RNA was extracted using eMAG. ddPCR was performed using Bio-Rad SARS-CoV-2 detection kit, and RT-qPCR was performed using GeneFinder™ COVID-19 Plus RealAmp Kit. Statistical analysis was performed using Statistical Package for the Social Science.
SARS-CoV-2 RNA was detected, using ddPCR and RT-qPCR, in 91% and 87% of ICU patients, 27% and 23% of ward patients and 3% and 3% of outpatients. The concordance of the results obtained by both methods was excellent (Cohen's kappa index=0.953). RT-qPCR was able to detect 34/36 (94.4%) patients positive for viral RNA in plasma by ddPCR. Viral RNA load was higher in ICU patients compared with the other groups (P<.001), by both ddPCR and RT-qPCR. The probability of TSH-measurement was higher with short (RR 1.16 [95% CI 1.15-1.16]) and medium (RR 1.11 [95% CI 1.06-1.12]) compared with long education. In this case report, we highlight the importance of GCA early diagnosis in order to avoid more serious complications.

We investigated if a combination of natural activators of autophagy could modulate oxidative stress, platelet aggregation and endothelial cell survival and function in response to stress.
