Specifically, this article presents an evaluation of the physical, thermophysical, and mechanical properties of asphalt mixtures with metallic fiber obtained from recycled tires for crack-healing purposes. Detailed results on the crack-healing of asphalt mixtures will be reported in a second article. Results showed a small reduction on the bulk density and increase in the air voids content was quantified with increasing fiber contents. The experimental results showed that mixing and compaction was more difficult for higher fiber contents due to less space for the bitumen to freely flow and fill the voids of the mixtures. Computed tomography (CT) results allowed to identify clustering and orientation of the fibers. The samples were electrically conductive, and the electrical resistivity decreased with the increase of the fiber content. Fiber content had a direct effect on the indirect tensile stiffness modulus (ITSM) and strength (ITS) that decreased with increasing temperature for mixtures and with increase in fiber content. However, the indirect tensile strength ratio (ITSR) was within acceptable limits. Their large surface-to-volume ratio, biocompatibility, and versatility allow the encapsulation of a wide variety of drugs inside their pores. Taking advantage of the dissolving capacity of silica, in this study, we generate hollow capsules using MSPs as transitory sacrificial templates. We show how, upon MSP coating with different polyelectrolytes or proteins, fully customized hollow shells can be produced. These capsules are biocompatible, flexible, and biodegradable, and can be decorated with nanoparticles or carbon nanotubes to endow the systems with supplementary intrinsic properties. We also fill the capsules with a fluorescent dye to demonstrate intracellular compound release. Finally, we document how fluorescent polymeric capsules are engulfed by cells, releasing their encapsulated agent during the first 96 h.

An alternative approach would be to identify the critical downstream targets of ROS in the promotion of heart regeneration, and then target these clinically using drugs. One such family of potential downstream targets of ROS during heart regeneration are the family of protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs), which are known to be exquisitely sensitive to redox regulation and whose inhibition have been linked to the promotion of heart regeneration in zebrafish. In this review, we present an overview of the zebrafish as a model organism for studying cardiac regeneration, including the molecular mechanisms by which cardiac regeneration occurs in response to injury. We then present recent findings linking elevated ROS levels to heart regeneration and their potential downstream targets, the PTPs, including protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) and the dual specificity phosphatase 6 (DUSP6) in the promotion of heart regeneration.
Inflammatory bowel disease affects approximately seven million people globally. Iron deficiency anaemia can occur as a common systemic manifestation, with a prevalence of up to 90%, which can significantly affect quality of life, both during periods of active disease or in remission. It is important that iron deficiency anaemia is treated effectively and not be assumed to be a normal finding of inflammatory bowel disease. The various routes of iron administration, doses and preparations present varying advantages and disadvantages, and a significant proportion of people experience adverse effects with current therapies. Currently, no consensus has been reached amongst physicians as to which treatment path is most beneficial.

A total of 2349 spots were identified, of which 9 were differentially expressed with a ≥2-fold change between healthy cats and cats with LPE and SCL (.01 < P < .001). Eight of these 9 spots were also differentially expressed between cats with LPE and cats with SCL (P .001 < P < .04). However, Western blot analysis for malate dehydrogenase-1, malate dehydrogenase-2, apolipoprotein, annexin IV, and annexin V did not confirm significant differential protein expression for any of the 5 proteins assessed.

In this article, the multi-objective optimization and deep learning-based technique for identifying infected patients with coronavirus using X-rays is proposed. J48 decision tree approach classifies the deep feature of corona affected X-ray images for the efficient detection of infected patients. In this study, 11 different convolutional neural network-based (CNN) models (AlexNet, VGG16, VGG19, GoogleNet, ResNet18, ResNet50, ResNet101, InceptionV3, InceptionResNetV2, DenseNet201 and XceptionNet) are developed for detection of infected patients with coronavirus pneumonia using X-ray images. The efficiency of the proposed model is tested using k-fold cross-validation method. Moreover, the parameters of CNN deep learning model are tuned using multi-objective spotted hyena optimizer (MOSHO). Extensive analysis shows that the proposed model can classify the X-ray images at a good accuracy, precision, recall, specificity and F1-score rates. Extensive experimental results reveal that the proposed model outperforms competitive models in terms of well-known performance metrics. The current study sought to expand our understanding of OC symptoms related to sexual orientation (SO-OC symptoms) by investigating the roles of homophobia (i.e., negative attitudes, affect, and behaviors toward individuals with a same-gender orientation) and disgust propensity and sensitivity. A total of 592 self-identified heterosexual college students were recruited to complete measures of homophobia, disgust propensity and sensitivity, and SO-OC symptoms. Results of separate parallel mediation analyses indicated that the relationships between homophobic affect/attitudes and avoidance/aggression on one hand, and SO-OC symptoms on the other, were partially mediated specifically by disgust sensitivity, after controlling for gender. Initially, right subthalamic stimulation alone provided a very mild clinical benefit that was not reflected in the patient's quality of life. In this patient, an unusual configuration of intracerebral electrodes with right subthalamic and left pallidal stimulation electrodes was applied 15 months after the initial subthalamic electrode implantation.
The procedure has had a highly beneficial long-term effect without any significant complications. The greatest improvement was noted using the setting 1.8 V, 130 Hz, 90 μs at the right side (STN) and 3.7 V, 130 Hz, 120 μs at the left side (GPi). This allowed the patient to return to his daily life activities.

J48 decision tree approach classifies the deep feature of corona affected X-ray images for the efficient detection of infected patients. In this study, 11 different convolutional neural network-based (CNN) models (AlexNet, VGG16, VGG19, GoogleNet, ResNet18, ResNet50, ResNet101, InceptionV3, InceptionResNetV2, DenseNet201 and XceptionNet) are developed for detection of infected patients with coronavirus pneumonia using X-ray images. The efficiency of the proposed model is tested using k-fold cross-validation method. Moreover, the parameters of CNN deep learning model are tuned using multi-objective spotted hyena optimizer (MOSHO). Extensive analysis shows that the proposed model can classify the X-ray images at a good accuracy, precision, recall, specificity and F1-score rates. Extensive experimental results reveal that the proposed model outperforms competitive models in terms of well-known performance metrics. A total of 592 self-identified heterosexual college students were recruited to complete measures of homophobia, disgust propensity and sensitivity, and SO-OC symptoms. The increasing tendency of chest CT usage throughout the COVID-19 epidemic requires new tools and a systematic scheme for diagnosing and assessing the lung involvement in Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). To investigate the use of the COVID-19 Reporting and Data System (CO-RADS) classification and chest CT Involvement Score (CT-IS) in COVID-19 pneumonia.
This retrospective study enrolled 280 hospitalized patients diagnosed with COVID-19 pneumonia in a tertiary hospital in Turkey. All patients underwent non-contrast CT chest imaging. Two radiologists interpreted all CT images according to CO-RADS classification without knowing the clinical features, laboratory findings. We used CT involvement score (CT-IS) for assessing chest CT images of COVID-19 patients. Also, we examined the relationship between CT-IS and clinical outcomes in COVID-19 patients.
Of the patients, 111(39.6%) had positive real-time reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) results. CO-RADS 5 group patients had statistically significant positive RT-PCR results than the other groups (P < 0.001). All of the CO-RADS 2 group patients (30) had negative RT-PCR results. The mean total CT-IS in CO-RADS 2 group was 3.4 ± 2.8. The mean total CT-IS in CO-RADS 5 group was 8.2 ± 4.7. Total CT-IS was statistically significantly different among CO-RADS groups (P < 0.001). The mean total CT-IS was statistically significantly different between survivors and patients died of COVID-19 pneumonia (P < 0.001).
CO-RADS is useful in detecting COVID-19 disease, even if RT-PCR testing is negative. CT-IS is also helpful as an imaging tool for evaluation of the severity and extent of COVID-19 pneumonia.

Previous research about the health and quality of life of people with atrial fibrillation has typically identified a single health trajectory. Our study aimed to examine variability in health trajectories and patient characteristics associated with such variability.
We conducted a retrospective analysis of data collected between 2008 and 2016 for a cardiac registry in British Columbia (Canada) linked with administrative health data. The Atrial Fibrillation Effect on Quality of Life Questionnaire was used to measure health status at up to 10 clinic visits. Growth mixture models were used and a three-step multinomial logistic regression was conducted to identify predictors of subgroups with different trajectories.
The patients (N = 7439) were primarily men (61.1%) over 60years of age (72.9%). Three subgroups of health status trajectories were identified "poor but improving", "good and stable", and "excellent and stable" health. Compared with the other two groups, patients in the "poor but improving group" were more likely to (1) be less than 60years of age; (2) be women; (3) have greater risk of stroke; (4) have had ablation therapy within 6months to 1year or more than 2years after their initial consultation; and (5) have had anticoagulation therapy within 6months.

In total, 567 patients with established CVD enrolled in a substudy of the UCC-SMART cohort, entailing cardiovascular CT imaging and calcium scoring, were studied. Five Cox proportional hazards models for prediction of 4-year risk of **** + were developed; traditional CVD risk predictors only (model I), with addition of CAC (model II), TAC (model III), heart valve calcium (model IV), and all calcium scores (model V). Bootstrapping was performed to account for optimism. During a median follow-up of 3.43 years (IQR 2.28-4.74) 77 events occurred (****+). Calibration of predicted versus observed 4-year risk for model I without calcium scores was good, and the c-statistic was 0.65 (95%CI 0.59-0.72). Calibration for models II-V was similar to model I, and c-statistics were 0.67, 0.65, 0.65, and 0.68 for model II, III, IV, and V, respectively. NRIs showed improvement in risk classification by model II (NRI 15.24% (95%CI 0.59-29.39)) and model V (NRI 20.00% (95%CI 5.59-34.92)), but no improvement for models III and IV. Understanding of anatomical adaptations of various plant organs and tissues to heavy metals and metalloids could greatly contribute to integral and modern approach for investigation of plants in changing environmental conditions. These findings are necessary for understanding of the whole spectra of physiological and biochemical reactions in plants and to maintain the crop productivity worldwide. Moreover, our holistic perception regarding the processes underlying the plant responses to metal(loids) at anatomical level are needed for improving crop management and breeding techniques.Patients with LBBB of unknown onset presenting with chest pain can pose a diagnostic challenge in the ED while Smith-Modified-Sgarbossa (SMS) ECG criteria might facilitate AMI diagnosis. We demonstrate a case of a 79-year-old man that presented to the ED with chest pain. Original Sgarbossa criteria were negative for AMI while SMS criteria were applied showing proportionally excessive discordance between ST-segment and preceding S-wave thus fulfilling diagnostic criterion for AMI. The coronary angiogram showed the total occlusion of the culprit left anterior descending artery. In this case, awareness of SMS criteria aided in the early prehospital diagnosis of AMI in the setting of LBBB and impacted the course of treatment.
Caregivers play an important role in providing physical, emotional and social support to individuals with hip fracture. This study sought to explore perceptions of caregiving for older adults with hip fractures by comparing experiences of caregivers, providers and decision-makers.
Semi-structured interviews were conducted both in-person and by telephone with caregivers, providers and decision-makers (n=32) from one rural and one urban hospital selected from two health regions in Ontario, Canada. Interviews were audio-recorded and transcribed verbatim. The data were coded descriptively and interpretively, and compared within and across participants types.
Three main themes reflected tensions between caregivers and providers/decision-makers. Firstly, differing expectations of caregiver roles were identified. Several caregivers wanted more participation in the decision-making process but often felt excluded, while others expressed feeling stressed due to the expectations placed on them. Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) has been linked with elevated risk of suicidality. However, most previous studies have been cross-sectional, and little is known about the aetiology of the association between obsessive-compulsive symptoms (OCS) and suicidality in young adults.
Participants were members of the Child and Adolescent Twin Study in Sweden, at ages 18 (n=9,162) and 24 (n=3,466). Twins completed self-report measures, including assessment of OCS, suicidal ideation, and suicidal attempts. Logistic regression models tested concurrent and prospective associations of total OCS and OCS dimensions with suicidality, with and without adjustment for depression and anxiety symptoms. Genetic models tested the extent to which the main phenotypic associations were accounted for by genetic and environmental influences.
Total OCS were significantly associated with concurrent reports of suicidality at age 18 and 24, even when controlling for depressive and anxiety symptoms. Taboo obsessions (e.g., sexual an-shared environmental effects, suggesting that effective OCS treatment might reduce suicidality risk in this group.
Brothers and sisters growing up together share a large proportion of their genes and rearing environment. However, some siblings thrive whereas others struggle. This study investigated family-wide childhood bonding experiences with mother and father, in addition to individual-specific recollections, in relation to current depressive and anxiety symptom levels in adulthood. We examined whether extraversion and internal locus of control (iLoC) had a protective effect in this.
The sample consisted of 256 families with at least one lifetime depressed or anxious person (N=596; ages 20-78). Multilevel modeling with cross-level interactions was used.
Adult siblings showed moderate to high agreement in their childhood parental bonding (PB) recollections. Over-and-above the association between individual-specific recollections of PB and adult internalizing symptoms, family-wide poor PB was additionally linked to elevated symptom levels. Within families characterized by poor maternal bonding persons with an iLoC were relatively less anxious (but not less depressed), whereas extraversion was not protective in this context.
Although evidence exists that poor childhood PB has an impact on (adult) psychopathology, causality cannot be determined and possible recall bias of PB should be noted. Moreover, next to their moderating effects, extraversion and LoC may also act as mediators.

Two measures were considered as the CDE for supervisory effectiveness, Benjamin Rose Relationship Scale and the Supervisory Support Scale; however, given that the latter measure has been translated in Spanish and Chinese and has been tested with nursing assistants in both of these countries with good psychometric properties, our group recommends it as the CDE going forward.

All 3 patients presented symptoms in their early 40s. One patient showed severe cognitive dysfunction and died in his sixth year after onset. The remaining 2 cases presented with parkinsonism-dominant clinical features. Among the 2 cases, 1 presented the characteristic symptoms of progressive supranuclear palsy. The pathological features of the dementia-dominant case showed frontal and temporal lobe-dominant neuronal loss and gliosis. Tau-positive neuronal and glial inclusions were found throughout. Further, tufted astrocytes and globose tangles were present whereas there were no Pick bodies and astrocytic plaques, compatible with pathology-confitations in the microtubule-associated protein tau (MAPT) present with several pathological features. Clinically, our case presented a behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD). However, morphologically, the observed glial and neuronal pathology met the criteria for progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). Parkinson's Disease (PD) can present with dystonia or essential tremor but task specific tremor (TST) preceding PD has been only rarely reported. The relationship between TST and PD is unclear. We report a series of 12 patients with TST who later developed PD.
Patients with TST and PD were identified from our database. Records and imaging were reviewed and descriptive statistics presented. Twelve patients were identified. All 11 patients who had TST of arm developed rest tremor ipsilateral to the TST arm. DaTscan showed reduced dopaminergic uptake in all 11 patients who were scanned. The TST improved with STN and VIM DBS (3/12) and partially to dopaminergic medications (N = 3) and trihexyphenidyl (N = 2).
Rest tremor consistently occurring ipsilateral to TST, positive DaTscan, and partial response to dopaminergic medications but not to ET medications suggests TST is a precursor to PD in this population rather than chance occurrence.

A total of 1,000 patients were involved in the study with 200 recordings for each class. All recordings were initially trimmed to have 9,600 samples ensuring their coverage of at least 1 cardiac cycle. This study was conducted to compare the pregnancy rates of ultrasound-guided intrauterine insemination (UG-IUI) and classical intrauterine insemination (C-IUI) cycles.
A total of 320 infertile women were enrolled and randomized into an UG-IUI group, and a C-IUI group. All participants received an oral medication for ovarian stimulation. With both groups, the IUIs were scheduled and performed by doctors in their residency and fellowship training, under supervision. The duration and difficulty of the procedures were assessed. Spontaneous intranodular hemorrhaging in benign partially cystic thyroid nodules was reported to cause neck swelling, difficulty swallowing, and other oppressive symptoms attributed to their growing progressively at high rates. In our study, the risk factors for hemorrhaging in these nodules were investigated.We retrospectively analyzed benign partial cystic thyroid nodules from September 2017 to December 2019, and divided them into 2 groups according to the occurrence of intranodular hemorrhage. Age, gender, follow-up time nodules initial maximum diameter, blood supply, spongiform content, nodules solid components, and internal solid portion were compared between the 2 groups at the first ultrasound examination. Chi-Squared and multivariate analysis were performed to evaluate the association of hemorrhage with clinical and ultrasonographic characteristics. ROC analysis was performed to evaluate the utility of factors in predicting hemorrhage.There were 59 occurrences of intranodular hemorrhage, which were of the internal solid portion and a spongiform internal content were apt to spontaneous intranodular hemorrhaging, which can be recognized as soon as possible by ultrasound.
There is limited evidence to assess the evaluation of the safety and effectiveness of autologous blood injections in the treatment of lateral epicondylitis patients. For this study, the aim was to compare the efficiency of corticosteroid and autologous blood injections for the treatment of lateral epicondylitis in a retrospective cohort trial in our single center.
After being approved by the institutional review committee of Chongqing General Hospital (IRB# 2018.417.C, November 9, 2018), we performed a single-center, retrospective study between November 2018 and January 2020. All participants provided written informed consent. The criteria for inclusion in our experiment are as follows over 18 years old; with the history of at least 6 months of lateral epicondylitis; and the palpation of lateral epicondyle tenderness; visual analog scale (≥4). In the group A, the patient were injected the autologous blood. In group B, the patients were immersed with 0.5% of bupivacaine (1 ml) and local corticosteroids (2 ml) at lateral epicondyle. The outcomes were composed of a visual analog scores of subjective pain severity over the past 24 hours as the primary result; and limb function in various tasks of daily activity measured with disabilities of the arm, shoulder, and hand quick questionnaire scores, the maximum grip strength and the modified scores of Nirschl, as secondary results. All the results were assessed before the injection and at 4 weeks and 8 weeks after the injection. For all examination, when the P value was less than .05, it would be defined to be a statistically significant difference.
The results of this study would provide new information about the influence of autologous blood injections in treating the lateral epicondylitis.

Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) play a crucial role in the immune response to many malignancies, but the signaling pathways by which the glioma microenvironment cross-talk with TAMs are poorly understood. The aim of this study was to uncover the potential signaling pathways of the regulation of TAMs and identify candidate targets for therapeutic intervention of glioma through bioinformatics analysis.Chinese Glioma Genome Atlas (CGGA) and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) datasets were used to download RNA-Seq data and microarray data of human glioma specimen. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between CD68-high samples and CD68-low samples were sorted. Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis of the DEGs was conducted. Protein-protein interaction (PPI) network were formed to identify the hub genes.The prognostic value of TAMs in glioma patients was confirmed. A total of 477 specific DEGs were sorted. The signaling pathway was identified in pathway enrichment and the DEGs showed prominent representations of immune response networks in glioma.

A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was conducted to examine continuous variables and eradication success. We reviewed the records of 33 patients (age 34-79 years, male/female 22/11, and body mass index (BMI) 16.1-28.8 kg/m2) who underwent vonoprazan-based second-line therapy after failure of first-line therapy at seven Japanese facilities between October 2018 and June 2019. The eradication success rate was 81.8% (27/33). ROC analysis revealed an area under the curve and BMI cutoff value of 0.796 and 23.8 kg/m2, respectively. The eradication success rate was higher in patients with high BMI than in those with low BMI (p = 0.007). Our findings indicate that higher BMI is correlated with the success of vonoprazan-based second-line therapy.
To evaluate the prognostic value of triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index in nondiabetic patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) with low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) below 1.8 mmol/L.
A total of 1655 nondiabetic patients with ACS with LDL-C below 1.8 mmol/L were included in the analysis. Patients were stratified into two groups. The incidence of acute myocardial infarction (AMI), infarct size in patients with AMI, and major adverse cardiac and cerebral event during a median of 35.6-month follow-up were determined and compared between the two groups. The TyG index was calculated using the following formula ln [fasting triglycerides (mg/dL)×fasting plasma glucose (mg/dL)/2].
Compared with the TyG index <8.33 group, the TyG index ≥ 8.33 group had a significantly higher incidence of AMI (21.2% vs. 15.2%, p=0.014) and larger infarct size in patients with AMI [the peak value of troponin I 10.4 vs. 4.8 ng/ml, p=0.003; the peak value of Creatine kinase MB 52.8 vs. 22.0 ng/ml, p=0.006; the peak value of myoglobin 73.7 vs. 46.0 ng/ml, p=0.038]. Although there was no significant difference in mortality between the two groups, the incidence of revascularization of the TyG index ≥ 8.33 group was significantly higher than that of the TyG index <8.33 group (8.9% vs. 5.0%, p=0.035). A multivariable Cox regression revealed that the TyG index was positively associated with revascularization [hazard ratio, 1.67; 95% confidence interval, 1.02-2.75; p=0.043].

Cytokines, including tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-6 induce hypercortisolemia by enhancing the ACTH-independent synthesis and secretion of cortisol and by reducing cortisol breakdown. Subsequently, hypercortisolemia suppresses ACTH secretion by negative feedback inhibition. ACTH-cortisol dissociation in patients with systemic inflammatory diseases has not been reported. Here, we examined whether ACTH-cortisol dissociation is recognized in patients with Kawasaki disease (KD) associated with hypercytokinemia, as well as the possible cytokine involvement in ACTH-cortisol dissociation, retrospectively. The levels of serum cortisol, plasma ACTH, and cytokine-induced proteins, i.e., plasma C-reactive protein (CRP), serum ferritin, and urinary β2-microglobulin (U-β2MG), in 232 patients with KD were measured at diagnosis. Quartile groups based on cytokine-induced protein levels were formed (Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4). We found a low median plasma ACTH [median (range) 8.9 ( less then 2.0-332.0) pg/mL] but a high median serum cortisol level [median (range) 25.8 (1.4-99.8) μg/dL] in the entire study population. The median serum cortisol levels were significantly higher in the CRP-Q4, ferritin-Q4, and U-β2MG-Q4 groups than in the CRP-Q1, ferritin-Q2, and U-β2MG-Q1 groups, respectively (p less then 0.01; p less then 0.01; p less then 0.001). The median plasma ACTH levels were significantly lower in the CRP-Q4 and ferritin-Q4 groups than in the CRP-Q1 and ferritin-Q1 groups, respectively (p less then 0.001; p less then 0.001). ACTH-cortisol dissociation was identified in patients with KD. Our findings suggest that inflammatory cytokines are involved in ACTH-independent hypercortisolemia in patients with KD. Nevertheless, the postpartum mortality rate due to mental disorders has been a serious issue in Japan. Therefore, since January 2015, our hospital has implemented a liaison system in which one psychiatric nurse specialist contributes to perinatal care. The aim of this study is to explore the impacts of a psychiatric nurse specialist as a liaison for pregnant women with mental disorders. Of the 4,066 total deliveries completed during the study period, 152 women were detected as being exposed to the liaison system (2015-2019), while 92 were recognized as controls (2011-2014).
