    Studies show insufficient sensitivity of virtual non-contrast (VNC) reconstructions for stone detection in dual-energy CT urography (DE-CTU). The aim of this study was to investigate if side-by-side-evaluation of both VNC and post-contrast images could increase the sensitivity of single-phase split bolus DE-CTU.

    Consecutive patients with haematuria who underwent split bolus DE-CTU on the same dual-source DE-CT scanner were retrospectively enrolled in the study. Intravenous furosemide and oral hydration were employed. Two readers, independently and then jointly in two separate sessions, recorded the location and the longest axial stone diameter on three randomised sets of images separate VNC and post-contrast images, and side-by-side-reconstructions. True non-contrast (TNC) images served as the standard of reference.

    A total of 83 urinary stones were detected on TNC images. Independent reader side-by-side-evaluation of VNC and post-contrast images yielded higher stone detection sensitivity (76 and 84%, respectively) compared to evaluation of only VNC (71 and 81%, respectively) or post-contrast images (64 and 80%, respectively). The sensitivity of joint reader evaluation of side-by-side-images reached almost 86% and was not significantly different from TNC images (
    = 0.77). All stones larger than 3 mm were correctly detected by side-by-side-evaluation. Dose reduction of 55% could be achieved by omitting TNC scans.

  • The Inventory of Interpersonal Problems-Personality Disorders (IIP-PD-47) has a controversial factor structure, as some studies have provided support for 5 correlated factors, and others have suggested the existence of a general second-order dimension. One approach of data modelling that reconciles multidimensionality and the existence of a general factor is the bifactor analysis. We used unrestricted exploratory-confirmatory bifactor modelling to validate the Brazilian version of the IIP-PD-47.

    The sample consisted of 1,091 subjects aged 18-64 years who answered the IIP-PD-47 and a collateral measure of pathological traits, the Dimensional Clinical Personality Inventory 2 (IDCP-2).

    After testing many candidate models, our data were best represented by a bifactor model with one general factor and five specific uncorrelated factors. Nevertheless, a closer inspection of the discriminant validity of each IIP-PD-47 factor revealed strong support for the general factor and a factor capturing aggressive behaviours, but less support for the additional four specific factors.

    The theoretical and practical implications of these findings are discussed, and some recommendations are offered about the need for controlling response styles when assessing PD traits via self-report inventories. Our findings indicate that the Brazilian version of IIP-PD has promising psychometric properties.

    Since 1980, there have been known cases of childhood neuropsychiatric syndromes in the world and its concept has evolved with changes in the definitions in 1995 (PITANDs - paediatric infection-triggered autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders), 1998 (PANDAS - paediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric syndrome associated with streptococci infection), 2010 (PANS - paediatric acute-onset neuropsychiatric syndrome) and 2012 (CANS - childhood acute neuropsychiatric syndrome).     The Inventory of Interpersonal Problems-Personality Disorders (IIP-PD-47) has a controversial factor structure, as some studies have provided support for 5 correlated factors, and others have suggested the existence of a general second-order dimension. One approach of data modelling that reconciles multidimensionality and the existence of a general factor is the bifactor analysis. We used unrestricted exploratory-confirmatory bifactor modelling to validate the Brazilian version of the IIP-PD-47. The sample consisted of 1,091 subjects aged 18-64 years who answered the IIP-PD-47 and a collateral measure of pathological traits, the Dimensional Clinical Personality Inventory 2 (IDCP-2). After testing many candidate models, our data were best represented by a bifactor model with one general factor and five specific uncorrelated factors. Nevertheless, a closer inspection of the discriminant validity of each IIP-PD-47 factor revealed strong support for the general factor and a factor capturing aggressive behaviours, but less support for the additional four specific factors. The theoretical and practical implications of these findings are discussed, and some recommendations are offered about the need for controlling response styles when assessing PD traits via self-report inventories.   • We study how the intrinsic anomalous Hall conductivity is modified in two-dimensional crystals with broken time-reversal symmetry due to weak inhomogeneity of the applied electric field. Focusing on a clean noninteracting two-band system without band crossings, we derive the general expression for the Hall conductivity at small finite wave vector q to order q^2, which governs the Hall response to the second gradient of the electric field. Using the Kubo formula, we show that the answer can be expressed through the Berry curvature, Fubini-Study quantum metric, and the rank-3 symmetric tensor which is related to the quantum geometric connection and physically corresponds to the gauge-invariant part of the third cumulant of the position operator. We further compare our results with the predictions made within the semiclassical approach. By deriving the semiclassical equations of motion, we reproduce the result obtained from the Kubo formula in some limits. We also find, however, that the conventional semiclassical description in terms of the definite position and momentum of the electron is not fully consistent because of singular terms originating from the Heisenberg uncertainty principle. We thus present a clear example of a case when the semiclassical approach inherently suffers from the uncertainty principle, implying that it should be applied to systems in nonuniform fields with extra care.A network of propagating nonlinear oscillatory modes (waves) in the human brain is shown to generate collectively synchronized spiking activity (hypersynchronous spiking) when both amplitude and phase coupling between modes are taken into account. The nonlinear behavior of the modes participating in the network are the result of the nonresonant dynamics of weakly evanescent cortical waves that, as shown recently, adhere to an inverse frequency-wave number dispersion relation when propagating through an inhomogeneous anisotropic media characteristic of the brain cortex. This description provides a missing link between simplistic models of synchronization in networks of small amplitude phase coupled oscillators and in networks built with various empirically fitted models of pulse or amplitude coupled spiking neurons. Overall the phase-amplitude coupling mechanism presented in the Letter shows significantly more efficient synchronization compared to current standard approaches and demonstrates an emergence of collective synchronized spiking from subthreshold oscillations that neither phase nor amplitude coupling alone are capable of explaining.X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) is generally not observed for antiferromagnetic (AFM) states because XMCD signals from the antiparallelly coupled spins cancel each other. In this Letter, we theoretically show the presence of an XMCD signal from compensated two-dimensional triangle AFM structures on a Kagome lattice. The calculation reveals the complete correspondence between the XMCD spectra and the sign of the spin chirality the XMCD signal only appears when the spin chirality is negative. This XMCD signal originates from the different absorption coefficients of the three sublattices reflecting different charge density anisotropies and directions of spin and orbital magnetic moments.We show how light can be controllably transported by light at microscale dimensions. We design a miniature device that consists of a short segment of an optical fiber coupled to transversally oriented input-output microfibers. A whispering gallery soliton is launched from the first microfiber into the fiber segment and slowly propagates along its mm-scale length. However, its detection remains difficult in experiments. We systematically investigate the disorder-induced phase transition of the axion insulator state in a 3D TI with antiparallel magnetization alignment surfaces. It is found that there exists a 2D disorder-induced phase transition on the surfaces of the 3D TI which shares the same universality class with the quantum Hall plateau to plateau transition. Then, we provide a phenomenological theory which maps the random mass Dirac Hamiltonian of the axion insulator state into the Chalker-Coddington network model. Therefore, we propose probing the axion insulator state by investigating the universal signature of such a phase transition in the ferromagnetic-3D TI heterostructure and MnBi_2Te_4. Our findings not only show a global phase diagram of the axion insulator state, but also stimulate further experiments to probe it.We describe an experimental technique to measure the chemical potential μ in atomically thin layered materials with high sensitivity and in the static limit. We apply the technique to a high quality graphene monolayer to map out the evolution of μ with carrier density throughout the N=0 and N=1 Landau levels at high magnetic field. By integrating μ over filling factor ν, we obtain the ground state energy per particle, which can be directly compared to numerical calculations. In the N=0 Landau level, our data show exceptional agreement with numerical calculations over the whole Landau level without adjustable parameters as long as the screening of the Coulomb interaction by the filled Landau levels is accounted for. In the N=1 Landau level, a comparison between experimental and numerical data suggests the importance of valley anisotropic interactions and reveals a possible presence of valley-textured electron solids near odd filling.

    We study how the intrinsic anomalous Hall conductivity is modified in two-dimensional crystals with broken time-reversal symmetry due to weak inhomogeneity of the applied electric field. Focusing on a clean noninteracting two-band system without band crossings, we derive the general expression for the Hall conductivity at small finite wave vector q to order q^2, which governs the Hall response to the second gradient of the electric field. Using the Kubo formula, we show that the answer can be expressed through the Berry curvature, Fubini-Study quantum metric, and the rank-3 symmetric tensor which is related to the quantum geometric connection and physically corresponds to the gauge-invariant part of the third cumulant of the position operator. We further compare our results with the predictions made within the semiclassical approach. By deriving the semiclassical equations of motion, we reproduce the result obtained from the Kubo formula in some limits. We also find, however, that the conventional semiclassical description in terms of the definite position and momentum of the electron is not fully consistent because of singular terms originating from the Heisenberg uncertainty principle. We thus present a clear example of a case when the semiclassical approach inherently suffers from the uncertainty principle, implying that it should be applied to systems in nonuniform fields with extra care.A network of propagating nonlinear oscillatory modes (waves) in the human brain is shown to generate collectively synchronized spiking activity (hypersynchronous spiking) when both amplitude and phase coupling between modes are taken into account. The nonlinear behavior of the modes participating in the network are the result of the nonresonant dynamics of weakly evanescent cortical waves that, as shown recently, adhere to an inverse frequency-wave number dispersion relation when propagating through an inhomogeneous anisotropic media characteristic of the brain cortex. This description provides a missing link between simplistic models of synchronization in networks of small amplitude phase coupled oscillators and in networks built with various empirically fitted models of pulse or amplitude coupled spiking neurons. We systematically investigate the disorder-induced phase transition of the axion insulator state in a 3D TI with antiparallel magnetization alignment surfaces. It is found that there exists a 2D disorder-induced phase transition on the surfaces of the 3D TI which shares the same universality class with the quantum Hall plateau to plateau transition. Then, we provide a phenomenological theory which maps the random mass Dirac Hamiltonian of the axion insulator state into the Chalker-Coddington network model. Therefore, we propose probing the axion insulator state by investigating the universal signature of such a phase transition in the ferromagnetic-3D TI heterostructure and MnBi_2Te_4. Our findings not only show a global phase diagram of the axion insulator state, but also stimulate further experiments to probe it.We describe an experimental technique to measure the chemical potential μ in atomically thin layered materials with high sensitivity and in the static limit. We apply the technique to a high quality graphene monolayer to map out the evolution of μ with carrier density throughout the N=0 and N=1 Landau levels at high magnetic field. By integrating μ over filling factor ν, we obtain the ground state energy per particle, which can be directly compared to numerical calculations. In a retrospective study of patients treated with ICIs we collected clinicopathologic, laboratory, irAEs and outcomes data. The association between baseline blood biomarkers, clinicopathologic features and irAEs was assessed by logistic regression adjusting for age, sex, smoking, cancer type, performance status, concomitant other systemic therapy, history of autoimmune disease (AD), chronic infection and pre-existing systemic steroid use (regardless of dose). Optimal cutoff values of biomarkers were identified by recursive partitioning analysis. 470 patients were identified; 156 (33%) developed irAEs, which were associated with baseline absolute lymphocyte count > 2.6 k/ul (adjusted [a]OR 4.30), absolute monocyte count > 0.29 k/ul (aOR 2.34) and platelet count > 145 k/ul (aOR 2.23), neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) ≤ 5.3 (aOR 2.07) and monocyte to lymphocyte ratio (MLR) ≤ 0.73 (aOR 2.96), as well as platelet to lymphocyte ratio ≤ 534 (aOR 5.05). Patients with pre-existing AD (aOR 2.57), family history of AD (aOR 5.98), and ICI combination (aOR 2.00) had higher odds of irAEs. Baseline NLR ≤ 5.3 (aHR 0.68), MLR ≤ 0.73 (aHR 0.43), PLT > 145 (aHR 0.48) and PLR ≤ 534 (aHR 0.48) were associated with longer OS. irAEs were associated with autoimmune history, ICI combination and baseline laboratory measurements. Our data showed that chromatin aggregation and cytoplasmic vacuolation were observable in the hippocampal cells of the rats in the model group, while candesartan and music therapy could reduce morphological changes in the hippocampus of diabetic rats with depression. Compared with the control group, the apoptosis of retinal cells was significantly higher, the contents of 5-HT, DA, and NE in the hippocampus were significantly lower, Ang II level in peripheral blood was significantly higher, and the expression of BDNF and c-fos in the hippocampus decreased significantly in the model group. By contrast, candesartan or candesartan + music therapy ameliorated the changes in retina cell apoptosis, reduction of neurotransmitters, increase in AII, and the expression of c-fos and BDNF. Especially, music therapy further improved the effects of candesartan on retina cell apoptosis and neurotransmitter release in diabetic retinopathy rats with depression. In conclusion, candesartan and music therapy have an additive effect in DM with both visual impairment and depression, which might serve a potential alternative treatment for this complex disease.
    We aimed to determine the effects of curcumin on palmitic acid- (PA-) induced human osteoblast-like Saos-2 cell apoptosis and to explore the potential molecular mechanisms in vitro level.

    Saos-2 cell were cultured with PA with or without curcumin, N-acetylcysteine (NAC, anti-oxidant), 3-methyladenine (3-MA, autophagy inhibitor) AY-22989 (autophagy agonist) or H

    . Then, the effects of PA alone or combined with curcumin on viability, apoptosis, oxidative stress, and autophagy in were detected by CCK-8, flow cytometry assay and western blot.

    We found that autophagy was induced, oxidative stress was activated, and apoptosis was promoted in PA-induced Saos-2 cells. Curcumin inhibited PA-induced oxidative stress, autophagy, and apoptosis in Saos-2 cells. NAC successfully attenuated oxidative stress and apoptosis, and 3-MA attenuated oxidative stress and apoptosis in palmitate-induced Saos-2 cells. Interestingly, NAC inhibited PA-induced autophagy, but 3-MA had no obvious effects on oxidative stress in PA-treated Saos-2 cells. In addition, curcumin inhibited H

The in vitro hypoxia reoxygenation (HR) model was established on HUVECs. Lower-extremity I/R model was established on rats followed by being treated with RSV and the pathological state of artery was evaluated by HE and EVG staining, while the apoptotic state of artery was detected by TUNEL assay. The cell viability was detected by MTT assay and the apoptotic state of cells was determined by Hoechst test and flow cytometry assay. DCFH-DA staining was used to measure the level of ROS and the production of MDA and *** was measured by commercial kits. The expression level of Nrf2, Keap1, HO-1, Bcl-2, Bax, and Caspase-3 in cells was determined by Western blot. Nrf2 was knocked down by siRNA technology. Overall, our data indicated that increased cell viability, declined apoptotic rate, and alleviated oxidative stress were observed in RSV treated HR HUVECs, which were significantly reversed by knocking down Nrf2. Animal experiment revealed that the pathological and apoptotic state of femoral artery were dramatically ameliorated by the treatment of RSV, accompanied by the alleviated oxidative stress, which were abolished by the co-administration of ML385, an inhibitor of Nrf2. Taken together, our data revealed that RSV might alleviate vascular endothelial injury induced by lower-extremity I/R injury through regulating Keap1/Nrf2 signaling-mediated oxidative stress.

However, there exists asymptomatic infection among older children, thereby making them a reservoir of malaria transmission. This study aimed at assessing the impact of LLITN usage on malaria prevalence among school-age children (SAC) in Ekiti, South Western Nigeria.

    Cross-sectional, two-stage cluster sampling technique was used to collect data from SAC during May and June 2017. A total of 1313 (Oye LGA 657 and Ikole LGA 656) SAC in selected public primary schools participated in the study. Sociodemographic information as well as data on LLITN usage the previous night was obtained using pretested, semistructured questionnaires adapted from the standardized Malaria Indicator Survey (MIS) tools. We aimed to determine the effects of curcumin on palmitic acid- (PA-) induced human osteoblast-like Saos-2 cell apoptosis and to explore the potential molecular mechanisms in vitro level. Saos-2 cell were cultured with PA with or without curcumin, N-acetylcysteine (NAC, anti-oxidant), 3-methyladenine (3-MA, autophagy inhibitor) AY-22989 (autophagy agonist) or H O . Then, the effects of PA alone or combined with curcumin on viability, apoptosis, oxidative stress, and autophagy in were detected by CCK-8, flow cytometry assay and western blot. We found that autophagy was induced, oxidative stress was activated, and apoptosis was promoted in PA-induced Saos-2 cells. Curcumin inhibited PA-induced oxidative stress, autophagy, and apoptosis in Saos-2 cells. DCFH-DA staining was used to measure the level of ROS and the production of MDA and SOD was measured by commercial kits. The expression level of Nrf2, Keap1, HO-1, Bcl-2, Bax, and Caspase-3 in cells was determined by Western blot. Nrf2 was knocked down by siRNA technology.     skin waste by the acid-based method and were evaluated by using Pico Tag, SDS-PAGE. The burn wound healing efficiency of marine collagen-chitosan gel was examined invivo using rats. Three different ratios of collagen and chitosan blend (Col-CH, 13, 11 and 31) were prepared to obtain the most effective Col-CH gel for burn wound healing and were compared to the animals treated with silver sulfadiazine ointment. Healing burn wound was studied by measuring wound surface area with Image J and histopathologic examination was carried out based on the mean of epithelialization, fibroblastic cells, acute an was composed of two α (α1 and α2) chains. Amino acid analysis showed a **** higher glaycin content in extracted collagen which amounted to one-third of the total amino. The wound surface measurement showed a significant reduction in wound size in the group treated with Col-CH (31) compared to silver-sulfadiazine treated group on 15th and 25th days. Histopathological findings represented a high score in epithelialization, collagen, collagen structure, fibroblast cell and a decrease in inflammatory cells infiltration in Col-CH (31) treated group on 25th day.     The formation of a secondary liver is expected in ectopic transplants in liver therapy. It is reported that the transplantation of hepatocyte sheets constitutes one of the techniques used to form a secondary liver. Accordingly, we established a subcutaneous transplant for hepatocyte/fibroblast sheets in previous studies. In this development study with hepatocyte/fibroblast sheets, we evaluated the differences in transplantation sites to promote the maturation of transplanted tissue in a liver injury model.

    A cocultured hepatocyte sheet of fibroblasts (TIG-118 cells) and human hepatocytes (PXB cells) was prepared on a temperature-responsive culture dish. The prepared cocultured hepatocyte sheet was either transplanted subcutaneously or on the liver surface of a persistent liver injury model (cDNA-uPA/SCID mouse uPA mouse), and was evaluated by the human albumin concentration in mouse blood. As a control group, hepatocyte cell sheets were used that were transplanted to both areas and compared.

    Although the cocultured hepatocyte sheet led to functional improvements in the early stages of culture in subcutaneous transplantation, these did not last in the long-term after transplantation. Although coculture effects were not observed in the liver surface transplantation case, long-term functional expressions in mono- and cocultured sheets in the case of liver surface transplantation were exhibited compared with subcutaneous administration.

Increasing evidence suggests the importance of liver CSCs for tumor growth, metastasis, and chemo/radiation resistance in HCC, but the application of the liver CSC concept for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of HCC has not yet been achieved to the extent initially expected. Furthermore, the heterogeneity and plasticity of liver CSCs has recently been noted and might be related to drug resistance and the rapid growth and/or metastasis of the tumor after treatment.     Bariatric surgery is an effective treatment for severe obesity but causes substantial bone loss and increased risk of fractures. To date, there have been no studies examining whether pharmacologic treatments can prevent bone loss after bariatric surgery. We performed an exploratory study to examine the preliminary safety and efficacy of zoledronic acid (ZOL), a potent anti-resorptive bisphosphonate, to suppress bone turnover markers (BTM) and prevent declines in bone mineral density (BMD) after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) surgery.

    We performed an open-label pilot study of pre-operative ZOL in postmenopausal women with obesity who were planning RYGB (
    =4). A single dose of zoledronic acid 5mg was given intravenously prior to RYGB. Serum bone biochemistries including C-telopeptide (CTX) and procollagen type 1 N-terminal propeptide (P1NP) were measured at multiple timepoints throughout the 24-week study. BMD was also obtained at the spine and hip by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and at the trabecular spine by quantitative computed tomography (QCT) at pre-operative baseline and 24weeks.

Thus, a privacy issue arises where the public good (via information release) comes in conflict with privacy exposure risks.

    The objective of this study is to develop an effective contact tracing system that does not expose the location information of the patient with COVID-19 to other users of the system, or the location information of the users to the quarantine authorities.

    We propose a new protocol called PRivacy Oriented Technique for Epidemic Contact Tracing (PROTECT) that securely shares location information of patients with users by using the Brakerski/Fan-Vercauteren homomorphic encryptireasonable size and developed it to an operable format. The developed app and web service can help contact tracing for not only the COVID-19 pandemic but also other epidemics.

N=36 healthy subjects (mean age 30.47 years, SD 4.79 years, 20 males) were recruited to participate in the study. To account for the intersubject variability in the tolerance level to thermal pain, we first determined for each subject the thermoalgesic threshold, defined as the temperature at which pains perception starts when gradually increasing the temperature of the Peltier cell. Next, we defined two different conditions 1. Pain, obtained at a temperature equal to 90% of the threshold; 2. No-pain, at 50% of the threshold.

To discover new physiological markers of pains perception by reading out the brains electrical activity and its interaction with hemodynamics. We present a prototype consisting of a compact setup that on one hand generates well-controlled thermal stimuli produced by a Peltier cell controlled by a computer, and on the other hand, captures simultaneous electroencephalography (EEG) and photoplethysmography (PPG) signals when varying stimuli. N=36 healthy subjects (mean age 30.47 years, SD 4.79 years, 20 males) were recruited to participate in the study. To account for the intersubject variability in the tolerance level to thermal pain, we first determined for each subject the thermoalgesic threshold, defined as the temperature at which pains perception starts when gradually increasing the temperature of the Peltier cell. Next, we defined two different conditions 1. Pain, obtained at a temperature equal to 90% of the threshold; 2. No-pain, at 50% of the threshold. Both the one-dimensional and the two-dimensional spectral entropy (SE) in both signals EEG and PPG can significantly differentiate between the two conditions.

    To describe MRI findings in Japanese macaque encephalomyelitis (JME) with emphasis on lesion characteristics, lesion evolution, normal-appearing brain tissue, and similarities to human demyelinating disease.

    MRI data were obtained from 114 Japanese macaques, 30 presenting neurological signs of JME. All animals were screened for presence of T
    -weighted white matter signal hyperintensities; animals with behavioral signs of JME were additionally screened for contrast-enhancing lesions. Whole-brain quantitative T
    maps were collected, and histogram analysis was performed with regression across age to evaluate microstructural changes in normal appearing brain tissue in JME and neurologically normal animals. Quantitative estimates of blood-brain-barrier (BBB) permeability to gadolinium-based-contrast agent (GBCA) were obtained in acute, GBCA-enhancing lesions. Longitudinal imaging data were acquired for 15 JME animals.

    The current recommendation for treating hepatitis C virus (HCV) in HIV patients includes the combination of sofosbuvir (SOF) and daclatasvir (DCV). DCV should be used at different doses to compensate for interactions with antiretroviral therapy (ART). Up to three pills a day might be required which will significantly add to the pill burden of these patients. In this study, we have used a single-tablet approach to treating HCV-HIV coinfection.

    Patients coinfected with HIV and HCV were prospectively enrolled from 10 centers throughout the country. Patients received a single once-daily fixed dose combination (FDC) pill containing 400mg SOF and 30, 60 or 90mg DCV depending on the type of ART they were receiving for 12 or 24weeks. (ClinicalTrials.gov ID NCT03369327).

    Two hundred thirty-three patients were enrolled from 10 centers. Twenty-three patients were lost to follow-up and two patients died from causes unrelated to treatment. Two hundred eight patients completed the treatment course of which 201 achieved SVR (96.6%).

    Single-tablet combination of DCV and SOF is an effective and safe treatment for patients coinfected with HIV and HCV. The combination works well in patients on ART in which dose adjustment is required. Patients with cirrhosis, previous treatment failure and various genotypes respond identically.     Malnutrition occurs in approximately 25% of pediatric intensive care patients and correlates with increased length of stay, prolonged ventilation, and mortality. Anthropometric measurements should be obtained at admission and throughout hospitalization to evaluate nutrition status. We aimed to increase documentation, reporting, and discussion of anthropometric measurements, including height/length, weight, and occipital frontal circumference (OFC) within 24 hours of admission and weekly.

    A multifaceted process improvement model was implemented over 1 month. Major risk factors for DPN include metabolic changes, duration of diabetes, nerve ischaemia and derangements in regeneration and nerve repair programmes. Chemokines have been previously implicated in the pathogenesis of various neuropathies and neuropathic pain processes. The aim of this pilot study was to evaluate the association between the plasma levels of chemokines (CXCL9, CXCL10 and CXCL11) in the presence of DPN in a cohort of type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients.

    We studied 73 patients with T2D 36 with DPN and 37 without DPN. DPN was established through the Semmes-Weinstein test (SW). Plasma levels of circulating chemokines CXCL9, CXCL10 and CXCL11 were determined using DuoSet ELISA kits (Abingdon, UK).

    We found that levels of CXCL10 were significantly higher in patients with DPN than amongst patients without DPN (57.6±38.3 vs 38.1±33.4pg/mL, respectively; P=.034). Serum levels of chemokine CXCL9 were also higher amongst patients with DPN but did not reach a statistical significance (188.1±72.7 and 150.4±83.6pg/mL, respectively, P=.06).
