  • Suicidality is an important contributor to disease burden worldwide. We examine the developmental and environmental correlates of reported suicidal ideation at age 15 and develop a new evolutionary model of suicidality based on life history trade-offs and hypothesized accompanying modulations of cognition. Growing reports propose the detrimental role of iron and ferroptosis in many experimental disease models such as ischemia-reperfusion, acute and chronic organ injuries. Critical Issues This review first provides a snapshot of iron metabolism, followed by a brief introduction of the molecular mechanisms of ferroptosis, as an iron-dependent lipid peroxidation-driven mode of cell death. Upon describing how iron dysbiosis affects ferroptosis induction, we elaborate on the detrimental role of the iron-ferroptosis axis in several diseases. Future Directions Despite compelling findings suggesting a role of ferroptosis in experimental animal models, the exact contribution of ferroptosis in human contexts still needs further investigation. Development of reliable ferroptosis biomarkers will be an important step in characterizing ferroptosis in human disease.     Systematic review and meta-analysis of published studies.

    We searched seven electronic literature databases and one clinical registry platform to collect data from randomized controlled trials published up to July 26, 2020.

    A total of 11 randomized controlled trials with 723 stroke survivors met the inclusion criteria, of which six were included in the meta-analysis. Among the 11 studies, one was assessed as "low", eight were assessed as "moderate", and only two were assessed as "high" for the assessment of methodologic quality. Compared to patients who received conventional rehabilitation therapy, those who received Tai Chi training showed greater improvement in scores of depression (standardized mean difference (SMD) [95% confidence interval (CI)] = 0.36 [0.10, 0.61], Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation [GRADE] very low). There were no differences in the improvements in post-stroke global mental disorders (mean difference (MD [95% CI] = 6.15 [-3.05, 15.36], GRADE moderate) or sleep disorders (MD [95% CI] = 0.33 [-1.51, 1.81], GRADE low) between Tai Chi and control groups.

  • D. marsupialis and domestics dogs have an important role in the transmission of T. cruzi suggesting a potential risk in T. cruzi transitions areas.A cross-sectional study was carried out from November 2016 to May 2017 in selected districts of Northwest Ethiopia (Jawi, South Achefer, Dembecha and Jabitehenan) with the aim of determining the prevalence of bovine and equine trypanosomosis, estimating the apparent density of vectors and assessing the effectiveness of control measures of the disease. A total of 1257 animals of which 803 bovine and 454 equine were examined for the determination of prevalence using blood sample collected from ear vein of animals. The buffy coat technique was employed to determine the prevalence and the packed cell volume (PCV) value. During sampling animals were categorized into age, body condition score, sex and hair coat color. A total of 40 monoconical traps 10 per district were deployed to estimate the apparent density of vectors. To assess control measures representative number of farmers were interviewed with a prepared questionnaire and using secondary data from veterinary offices. The overall prevalence of trypanosomosicts which were showed an increasing trend in livestock number might be attributed to control effectiveness. In conclusion the presence of trypanosomes and potential vectors necessitate the application of sustainable and integrated control methods in the study areas.MRI-detected T3a prostate cancer is a heterogeneous disease.     The radiotherapy (RT) community faces great challenges to meet the growing cancer incidence, especially regarding workload and recruitment of personnel. Workflow-related issues affect involved professions differently since they have specific expertise and various roles in the workflow. To obtain an objective understanding of the current working situation and identify workflow bottle necks in RT, we conducted a national survey on this topic in 2018.

    All 17 (photon-based) RT departments in Sweden were invited to participate in the study, which targeted both managers and employees in RT. Descriptive statistics were calculated for each profession and for small, medium and large departments (2/3-4/≥5 linacs).

    Altogether, 364 filled-in questionnaires were returned (32/332 managers/employees; 94% response rate). Managers reported a general need for more staff (all professions). Small departments reported no problems with waiting times (0/3); whereas 2/3 of medium and large departments did (medium 5/8, large 2/se work effectivity.

Nickel acetate played a significant role in enhancing the electrical conductivity, introducing pseudocapacitance, and promoting ion diffusion. In the supercapacitor, HPGC electrode exhibited a remarkable specific capacitance of 336.3 F g-1 under 0.5 A g-1 current density and showed high rate capability, even with large current densities applied (up to 50 A g-1). The duration of follow-up ranged from 4.8 to 28 years. Most of the studies assessed flavonoid intake using food frequency questionnaires, whereas four studies used interviews and 1 study used 4-day food records. The meta-analysis showed that flavonoid consumption was inversely and significantly associated with total (relative risk (RR) 0.87, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.77-0.99) and cardiovascular disease mortality risk (RR 0.85, 95%CI = 0.75-0.97), but not cancer (0.86, 95%CI = 0.65-1.14) mortality risk. These findings remained robust in sensitivity analyses. Conclusions The present findings highlight the potential protective role of flavonoids against total and cause-specific mortality. Positive results for the mutation panel were confirmed by sequencing. Among the 430 FNA specimens, genetic alterations were detected in 293 cases (68%). BRAF V600E (240 of 347 cases, 69%) was the most prevalent mutation in thyroid cancer. The RAS mutation was most prevalently detected for indeterminate cytology. Among the 293 mutation-positive cases, 287 (98%) were diagnosed as cancer. The combination of molecular testing and cytology improved sensitivity from 72% (cytology alone) to 89% (combination), with a specificity of 93%. We verified the excellent diagnostic performance of the mutation panel applicable for clinical practice in Korea. A plan has been devised to validate its performance using independent FNA specimens.

Polypyrrole, potassium hydroxide, and nickel acetate were used as the carbon precursors, activating agent, and catalyst, respectively. The retraction and dissolution of Ni caused the change of pore size in the material and led to the interconnected micro/nano holes. Nickel acetate played a significant role in enhancing the electrical conductivity, introducing pseudocapacitance, and promoting ion diffusion. In the supercapacitor, HPGC electrode exhibited a remarkable specific capacitance of 336.3 F g-1 under 0.5 A g-1 current density and showed high rate capability, even with large current densities applied (up to 50 A g-1). Moreover, HPGC showed optimal cycling stability with 97.4% capacitance retention followed by 3000 charge-discharge cycles. The aim of the present study was to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort studies evaluating the link of flavonoid consumption with total and cause-specific mortality. Methods Prospective cohort studies reporting flavonoid intake and mortality data published up to 30th April 2019 (without language restriction) were searched using PubMed, Scopus and EMBASE database. The duration of follow-up ranged from 4.8 to 28 years. Most of the studies assessed flavonoid intake using food frequency questionnaires, whereas four studies used interviews and 1 study used 4-day food records. The meta-analysis showed that flavonoid consumption was inversely and significantly associated with total (relative risk (RR) 0.87, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.77-0.99) and cardiovascular disease mortality risk (RR 0.85, 95%CI = 0.75-0.97), but not cancer (0.86, 95%CI = 0.65-1.14) mortality risk. These findings remained robust in sensitivity analyses. Conclusions The present findings highlight the potential protective role of flavonoids against total and cause-specific mortality.   • Immunotherapy has emerged as a promising approach to treat cancer, however, its efficacy in highly malignant brain-tumors, glioblastomas (GBM), is limited. Here, we generate distinct imageable syngeneic mouse GBM-tumor models and utilize RNA-sequencing, CyTOF and correlative immunohistochemistry to assess immune-profiles in these models. We identify immunologically-inert and -active syngeneic-tumor types and show that inert tumors have an immune-suppressive phenotype with numerous exhausted CD8 T cells and resident macrophages; fewer eosinophils and SiglecF+ macrophages. To mimic the clinical-settings of first line of GBM-treatment, we show that tumor-resection invigorates an anti-tumor response via increasing T cells, activated microglia and SiglecF+ macrophages and decreasing resident macrophages. A comparative CyTOF analysis of resected-tumor samples from GBM-patients and mouse GBM-tumors show stark similarities in one of the mouse GBM-tumors tested. These findings guide informed choices for use of GBM models for immunotherapeutic interventions and offer a potential to facilitate immune-therapies in GBM patients.Although recent studies indicate the involvement of monocytes in accelerating the lesion formation of neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD), the precise mechanism of the innate immune system activation remains elusive. Thus, in this study, we aimed to clarify the mechanisms of NMOSD pathogenesis from the viewpoint of innate immunity activation. We established anti-AQP4 recombinant autoantibodies (Ab) from plasmablasts in NMOSD patient's CSF. Human astrocytes treated with anti-AQP4 Ab produced a significant amount of CCL2 and contributed to the efficient recruitment of monocytes. Moreover, mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), which activated monocytes via Toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9), was released from astrocytes treated with anti-AQP4 Ab. MtDNA further enhanced CCL2 production by monocytes, and it was demonstrated that mtDNA concentration correlated with the efficiency of monocyte recruitment in the CSF of NMOSD patients. In conclusion, these observations highlight that mtDNA which was released from astrocytes damaged by anti-AQP4 Ab has a central role in establishing the inflammatory loop of monocyte recruitment and activation via an innate immunity pathway.Interferon (IFN)-γ release assays (IGRAs) are used to diagnose latent tuberculosis (TB) infection (LTBI). We included 115 subjects 74 active TB patients, 17 LTBI individuals and 24 healthy controls. Whole blood samples were collected in QFN-G-IT and in-house tubes containing different combinations of EspC, EspF and Rv2348-B, together with ESAT-6, CFP-10, and TB7.7. After overnight incubation at 37 ºC, plasma was harvested and IFN-γ quantified. IFN-γ levels in the QFN-G-IT and in-house tubes correlated very good (Spearman Rho(r) > 0.86). In-house antigen combinations distinguished healthy individuals from those with active TB and LTBI (specificities and sensitivities higher than 87.5% and 96.3%, respectively [AUC > 0.938]). Adding EspC, EspF and Rv2348-B, increased the sensitivity of the test, being the addition of EspC and Rv2348-B the combination that yielded a higher sensitivity with no specificity loss. Here, we report an all-organic composite comprising dielectric polymers blended with high-electron-affinity molecular semiconductors that exhibits concurrent high energy density (3.0 J cm-3) and high discharge efficiency (90%) up to 200 °C, far outperforming the existing dielectric polymers and polymer nanocomposites. We demonstrate that molecular semiconductors immobilize free electrons via strong electrostatic attraction and impede electric charge injection and transport in dielectric polymers, which leads to the substantial performance improvements. The all-organic composites can be fabricated into large-area and high-quality films with uniform dielectric and capacitive performance, which is crucially important for their successful commercialization and practical application in high-temperature electronics and energy storage devices.Phosphorene, monolayer or few-layer black phosphorus, exhibits fascinating anisotropic properties and shows interesting semiconducting behavior. The calculation for the unzipping mechanism study suggests that interstitial oxygen-pairs are the critical intermediate species for generating zigzag-phosphorene nanobelts. Although phosphorene oxidation has been reported, lengthwise cutting is hitherto unreported. Our discovery of phosphorene cut upon oxidation represents a previously unknown mechanism for the formation of various dimensions of phosphorene nanostructures, especially zigzag-phosphorene nanobelts.   • This study was conducted to establish and validate a non-contrast T1 map-based radiomic nomogram for predicting major adverse cardiac events (MACEs) in patients with acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).

    This retrospective study included 157 consecutive patients (training sets, 109 patients; test sets, 48 patients) with acute STEMI undergoing PCI. An open-source radiomics software was used to segment the myocardium on the non-contrast T1 mapping and extract features. A radiomic signature was constructed to predict MACEs using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator method. The performance of the radiomic nomogram for predicting MACEs in both the training and test sets was evaluated by its discrimination, calibration, and clinical usefulness.

    The radiomic signature showed a good prognostic ability in the training sets with an AUC of 0.94 (95% CI, 0.86 to 1.00) and F1 score of 0.71, which was confirmed in the test sets witional cardiac MRI parameters in predicting MACEs in acute STEMI patients. • The non-contrast T1 mapping-based radiomic nomogram can be used for prediction of MACEs and improvement of risk stratification in acute STEMI.
    To evaluate the performance of a multiparametric MRI radiomics-based nomogram for the individualised prediction of synchronous distant metastasis (SDM) in patients with clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC).

    Two-hundred and one patients (training cohort n = 126; internal validation cohort n = 39; external validation cohort n = 36) with ccRCC were retrospectively enrolled between January 2013 and June 2019. In the training cohort, the optimal MRI radiomics features were selected and combined to calculate the radiomics score (Rad-score). Incorporating Rad-score and SDM-related clinicoradiologic characteristics, the radiomics-based nomogram was established by multivariable logistic regression analysis, then the performance of the nomogram (discrimination and clinical usefulness) was evaluated and validated subsequently. Moreover, the prediction efficacy for SDM in ccRCC subgroups of different sizes was also assessed.

    Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory demyelinating autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system. Since immune system plays a key role in this disease, patients with MS can present higher risk of infections.

    This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of Candida spp. in the oral cavity of MS patients in relation to a control group METHODS In total, 100 individuals were selected 55 diagnosed with MS and 45 healthy individuals (control group). Saliva samples were collected and seeded in culture media selecting for Candida. Following an incubation period of 48h, colony-forming units (CFU mL
    ) were counted and colonies were isolated for Candida species identification by multiplex PCR. The results were analysed by chi-squared and Mann-Whitney U statistical tests considering a significance level of 5%.

The benefits gained from utilising such records lies in their size, longitudinal data collection and data quality. However, the use of such data to undertake high quality epidemiological studies, can lead to significant challenges particularly in dealing with misclassification, variation in coding and the significant effort required to pre-process the data in a meaningful format for statistical analysis. In this paper, we describe a methodology to aid with the extraction and processing of such databases, delivered by a novel software programme; the "Data extraction for epidemiological research" (DExtER). The basis of DExtER relies on principles of extract, transform and load processes. The tool initially provides the ability for the healthcare dataset to be extracted, then transformed in a format whereby data is normalised, converted and reformatted. DExtER has a user interface designed to obtain data extracts specific to each research question and observational study design.
    This study was conducted to establish and validate a non-contrast T1 map-based radiomic nomogram for predicting major adverse cardiac events (MACEs) in patients with acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). This retrospective study included 157 consecutive patients (training sets, 109 patients; test sets, 48 patients) with acute STEMI undergoing PCI. An open-source radiomics software was used to segment the myocardium on the non-contrast T1 mapping and extract features. A radiomic signature was constructed to predict MACEs using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator method. The performance of the radiomic nomogram for predicting MACEs in both the training and test sets was evaluated by its discrimination, calibration, and clinical usefulness. The radiomic signature showed a good prognostic ability in the training sets with an AUC of 0.94 (95% CI, 0.86 to 1.00) and F1 score of 0.71, which was confirmed in the test sets witional cardiac MRI parameters in predicting MACEs in acute STEMI patients. • The non-contrast T1 mapping-based radiomic nomogram can be used for prediction of MACEs and improvement of risk stratification in acute STEMI. Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory demyelinating autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system. Since immune system plays a key role in this disease, patients with MS can present higher risk of infections. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of Candida spp. in the oral cavity of MS patients in relation to a control group METHODS In total, 100 individuals were selected 55 diagnosed with MS and 45 healthy individuals (control group). Saliva samples were collected and seeded in culture media selecting for Candida. Following an incubation period of 48h, colony-forming units (CFU mL ) were counted and colonies were isolated for Candida species identification by multiplex PCR. The results were analysed by chi-squared and Mann-Whitney U statistical tests considering a significance level of 5%. This radionuclide marker is transported through the cell membrane via glucose transport proteins (GLUTs). The aim of this study is to investigate whether insulin resistance (IR) or inflammation plays a role in [
    F]FDG uptake in adipose tissue (AT).

    This study consisted of an in vivo clinical part and an ex vivo mechanistic part. In the clinical part, [
    F]FDG uptake in abdominal visceral AT (VAT) and subcutaneous AT (SAT) was determined using PET/CT imaging in 44 patients with early type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) (age 63 [54-66] years, HbA1c [6.3 ± 0.4%], HOMA-IR 5.1[3.1-8.5]). Plasma levels were measured with ELISA. In the mechanistic part, AT biopsies obtained from 8 patients were ex vivo incubated with [
    F]FDG followed by autoradiography. Next, a qRT-PCR analysis was performed to determine GLUT and cytokine mRNA expression levels. Immunohistoated with adiponectin levels and inversely with IR. Ex vivo [18F]FDG uptake in AT is associated with GLUT4 expression but not with pro-inflammatory markers. The effect of IR should be taken into account when interpreting data of [18F]FDG uptake as a marker for AT inflammation.
    Because of the anticipated surge in cases requiring intensive care unit admission, the high aerosol-generating risk of tracheal intubation, and the specific requirements in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patients, a dedicated Mobile Endotracheal Rapid Intubation Team (MERIT) was formed to ensure that a highly skilled team would be deployed to manage the airways of this cohort of patients.     Norwegian children have a lower intake of fruit, vegetables, and a higher intake of unhealthy snacks compared to dietary guidelines. Such dietary inadequacies may be detrimental for their current and future health. Schools are favorable settings to establish healthy eating practices. Still, no school meal arrangement is provided in Norway, and most children typically bring packed lunches from home. The aim of this study was to investigate whether serving a free healthy school meal for one year resulted in a higher intake of fruit and vegetables and a lower intake of unhealthy snacks in total among 10-12-year-olds in Norway.

    The School Meal Project in Southern Norway was a non-randomized trial in two elementary schools in rural areas in the school year 2014/2015. The study sample consisted of 10- to 12-year-old children; an intervention group (N = 55) and a control group (N = 109) resulting in a total of 164 school children at baseline. A food frequency questionnaire was completed by the children at baseliadequate intake of vegetables among children and that even moderate improvements have public health relevance, a free healthy school meal for all school children could be beneficial.

    Pharmacy workers in Bangladesh play an important role in managing pregnancy complications by dispensing, counselling and selling drugs to pregnant women and their families. This study examined pharmacy workers' drug knowledge and practice for pre-eclampsia and eclampsia (PE/E) management, including antihypertensives and anticonvulsants, and determine factors associated with their knowledge.

    A cross-sectional survey with 382 pharmacy workers in public facilities (government) and private pharmacies and drug stores assessed their knowledge of antihypertensive and anticonvulsant drugs. 'Pharmacy workers' include personnel who work at pharmacies, pharmacists, family welfare visitors (FWVs), sub-assistant community medical officers (SACMOs), drug storekeepers. Exploratory and multivariate logistic models were used to describe association between knowledge of medicines used in pregnancy and demographic characteristics of pharmacy workers.

    Overall, 53% pharmacy workers interviewed were drug store owners in privd incorrectly prescribed and used drugs. It is important that correct messaging and medicines are available as drug stores are often the first point of contact for most of the women and their families.
    Access to washroom facilities and a place to dispose of menstrual waste are prerequisites for optimal menstrual hygiene management in schools. Like other low- and middle-income countries, Bangladeshi schools lack facilities for girls to change and dispose of their menstrual absorbents. We explored existing systems for disposing of menstrual absorbent wastes in urban and rural schools of Bangladesh and assessed the feasibility and acceptability of alternative disposal options.

    We explored how girls dispose of their menstrual products, identified girls' preferences and choices for a disposal system and piloted four disposal options in four different schools. We then implemented one preferred option in four additional schools. We explored girls', teachers', and janitors' perspectives and evaluated the acceptability, feasibility, and potential for sustainability of the piloted disposal system.

    Barriers to optimal menstrual hygiene management included lack of functional toilets and private locations for chanying or regular maintenance, and is accepted by schoolgirls and janitors alike, and can improve conditions for menstrual hygiene management in schools. However, regular supervision, motivation of girls to correctly dispose of their products, and a long-term maintenance and management plan for the system are necessary.
    Based on a national survey in 2015, people's oral health behaviour (OHB) has not kept up with the pace of knowledge and attitudes in China after decades of oral health education (OHE). Thus, we need to improve OHE to strengthen people's OHB. Undergraduates are regarded as the best candidates for the improvement of OHE. The objective of this study is to determine undergraduates' oral health status and existing problems in OHB by comparing dental and non-dental students at Sichuan University. We hope to provide some suggestions for future OHE to improve people's OHB.

    A quasi-experimental study designed with a pre-test and post-test group was conducted. A total of 217 dental students and 135 non-dental students were enrolled. They were administered an OHE course focused on OHB. A survey about oral health behaviour and knowledge was conducted before and after the course.

    According to the pre-course survey, dental students surpassed non-dental students in terms of toothbrushing frequency, method, and time, but unfortunately, flossing was overlooked by all the students. After the course, both dental and non-dental students showed strong willingness to improve their OHB. More non-dental students than dental students were willing to use toothpicks and Chinese herbal toothpaste before and after the course.

    OHE focused on behaviour has a positive effect on university students. Future OHE and interventions should focus on flossing, toothbrushing methods, toothpicks, Chinese herbal toothpaste and modifications to adopt new media.

Lack of health insurance coverage and inadequate coverage are important reasons for high out-of-pocket health expenditures. There are many Public Health Insurance Programs offered by the Government that cover the cost of hospitalization for the people below poverty line (BPL), but their coverage is still not complete. The objective of this research is to examine the effect of Public Health Insurance Programs for the Poor on hospitalizations and inpatient Out-of-Pocket costs.

Pharmacy workers in Bangladesh play an important role in managing pregnancy complications by dispensing, counselling and selling drugs to pregnant women and their families. This study examined pharmacy workers' drug knowledge and practice for pre-eclampsia and eclampsia (PE/E) management, including antihypertensives and anticonvulsants, and determine factors associated with their knowledge. A cross-sectional survey with 382 pharmacy workers in public facilities (government) and private pharmacies and drug stores assessed their knowledge of antihypertensive and anticonvulsant drugs. 'Pharmacy workers' include personnel who work at pharmacies, pharmacists, family welfare visitors (FWVs), sub-assistant community medical officers (SACMOs), drug storekeepers. Exploratory and multivariate logistic models were used to describe association between knowledge of medicines used in pregnancy and demographic characteristics of pharmacy workers. Overall, 53% pharmacy workers interviewed were drug store owners in privd incorrectly prescribed and used drugs. We explored existing systems for disposing of menstrual absorbent wastes in urban and rural schools of Bangladesh and assessed the feasibility and acceptability of alternative disposal options. We explored how girls dispose of their menstrual products, identified girls' preferences and choices for a disposal system and piloted four disposal options in four different schools. We then implemented one preferred option in four additional schools. We explored girls', teachers', and janitors' perspectives and evaluated the acceptability, feasibility, and potential for sustainability of the piloted disposal system. Barriers to optimal menstrual hygiene management included lack of functional toilets and private locations for chanying or regular maintenance, and is accepted by schoolgirls and janitors alike, and can improve conditions for menstrual hygiene management in schools. Based on a national survey in 2015, people's oral health behaviour (OHB) has not kept up with the pace of knowledge and attitudes in China after decades of oral health education (OHE). Thus, we need to improve OHE to strengthen people's OHB. Undergraduates are regarded as the best candidates for the improvement of OHE. The objective of this study is to determine undergraduates' oral health status and existing problems in OHB by comparing dental and non-dental students at Sichuan University. We hope to provide some suggestions for future OHE to improve people's OHB. A quasi-experimental study designed with a pre-test and post-test group was conducted. A total of 217 dental students and 135 non-dental students were enrolled. They were administered an OHE course focused on OHB. A survey about oral health behaviour and knowledge was conducted before and after the course. According to the pre-course survey, dental students surpassed non-dental students in terms of toothbrushing frequency, method, and time, but unfortunately, flossing was overlooked by all the students. After the course, both dental and non-dental students showed strong willingness to improve their OHB. More non-dental students than dental students were willing to use toothpicks and Chinese herbal toothpaste before and after the course. OHE focused on behaviour has a positive effect on university students. Future OHE and interventions should focus on flossing, toothbrushing methods, toothpicks, Chinese herbal toothpaste and modifications to adopt new media. The objective of this research is to examine the effect of Public Health Insurance Programs for the Poor on hospitalizations and inpatient Out-of-Pocket costs. Data from the recent national survey by the National Sample Survey Organization, Social Consumption in Health 2014 are used. Propensity score matching was used to identify comparable non-enrolled individuals for individuals enrolled in health insurance programs. Binary logistic regression model, Tobit model, and a Two-part model were used to study the effects of enrolment under Public Health Insurance Programs for the Poor on the incidence of hospitalizations, length of hospitalization, and Out-of- Pocket payments for inpatient care.

  • Pregnancy tests can be used for the early diagnosis of fetal problems and can prevent abnormal birth in pregnancies. Yet, testing preferences among Chinese women are poorly investigated.

    We developed a Discrete Choice Experiment with 5 attributes test procedure, detection rate, miscarriage rate, time to wait for result, and test cost. By studying the choices that the women make in the hypothetical scenarios and comparing the attributes and levels, we can analyze the women's preference of prenatal testing in China.

    Ninety-two women completed the study. Respondents considered the test procedure as the most important attribute, followed by detection rate, miscarriage rate, wait time for result, and test cost, respectively. The estimated preference weight for the non-invasive procedure was 0.928 (P < 0.0001). All other attributes being equal, the odds of choosing a non-invasive testing procedure over an invasive one was 2.53 (95% confidence interval, 2.42-2.64; P < 0.001). Participants were willing to China. This study provided valuable evidence for the decision makers in the Chinese government.
    Radiotherapy (RT) is the major part of the treatment strategy set by a multidisciplinary team (MDT) for patients diagnosed with esophageal cancer (EC). The effect of an MDT collaboration on patients with EC who underwent RT is unclear.

    We retrospectively collected all patients diagnosed with EC in the radiation oncology department at our institution from January 2015 to May 2017. The patients were divided into groups based on if they had their cases presented or not presented at the MDT meeting (with MDT and non-MDT, respectively). Propensity score matching (PSM) was applied at a ratio of 11 and the nearest neighbor matching method to compare the two groups.

    A total of 212 consecutive patients were analyzed, including 157 with MDT and 55 non-MDT. In the unmatched population, the patients with MDT were more likely to received chemotherapy than the non-MDT patients (84.7% vs. 69.1%; × 2 = 6.373; P = 0.012).MDT-patients had significantly improved overall survival compared with non-MDT patients (p = 0.025). In the multivariate analysis, MDT was an independent prognostic factor for OS in patients with EC who underwent RT (P = 0.019, HR 0.59, 95% CI 0.38-0.92). After PSM for baseline characteristics, the benefit of MDT for OS became more obvious. Additionally, we also found that MDT was an independent predictor of receiving chemotherapy by using logistic regression analysis.

This study sought to assess the feasibility and efficacy of using electronic health record patient portals to transmit photographs of infant sleep between mothers and healthcare professionals as part of an intervention to promote sleep environments consistent with AAP guidelines.

    Women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) have a higher risk of cesarean delivery (CD) than glucose-tolerant women. The aim of this study was to develop and validate a risk score for predicting primary CD in women with GDM.

    A risk score for predicting primary CD was developed using significant clinical features of 385 women who had a diagnosis of GDM and delivered at our institution between January 2011 and December 2014. The score was then tested for validity in another cohort of 448 individuals with GDM who delivered between January 2015 and December 2018.

    The risk score was developed using the features nulliparity, excess gestational weight gain, and insulin use. The scores that classified the pregnant women as low risk (0 points), intermediate risk (1-3 points), and high risk (≥ 4 points) were directly associated with the primary CD rates of the women in the development cohort 14.7, 38.2 and 62.3%, respectively (P < 0.001). The model showed good calibration and acceptable discriminative power with a C statistic of 0.724 (95% confidence interval, 0.670-0.777). Similar results were observed in the validation cohort.

Untreated CGF (U-CGF) and compressed CGF (C-CGF) were subcutaneously implanted into the dorsum. Histological analyses showed that the U-CGF and C-CGF induced very few inflammatory cells and that the U-CGF and C-CGF were subsequently degraded with dendritic invasion of granulation tissue. The C-CGF histopathologically remained for longer term than the U-CGF. Aggregated CD31+ and RAM11+ cells appeared in and around the implanted CGF. The number of macrophages and blood vessels in the CGF-implanted groups was greater than that in the sham group. Recently, neurological symptoms associated with COVID-19 have been shown to be not uncommon, with headaches receiving attention as one of the main neurological symptoms. The frequency of headaches associated with COVID-19 ranged from 5.6% to 70.3%, based on 21 clinical studies and 8 meta-analyses. However, headaches were observed in 11.1% to 81.0% of non-COVID-19 individuals, including healthcare workers caring for COVID-19 patients. Although detailed descriptions of headaches were rarely provided in the literature obtained, in this article, I wil discuss the frequency and characteristics of headaches, and the pathophysiology of headaches as it relateds to COVID-19.We report a 62-year-old female with rheumatoid meningitis. She presented with mental disorder, loss of consciousness, generalized seizures, and cognitive impairment. Brain MRI demonstrated high intensity lesions and abnormal enhancement along the left frontal and parietal sulci. Her serum and cerebrospinal fluid were positive for anti-cyclic citrullinated peptides (CCP) antibody, and the antibody index of cerebrospinal fluid anti-CCP antibody increased, which led us to suspect rheumatoid meningitis. Her symptoms improved immediately by methylpredonisolone pulse therapy and anti-CCP antibody turned negative in cerebrospinal fluid. However, she revealed arthritis with the reduction of betamethasone and was diagnosed as rheumatoid arthritis. We suggest that the elevation of antibody index of cerebrospinal fluid anti-CCP antibody is useful in the diagnosis of rheumatoid meningitis preceding neurological symptoms without arthritis, and anti-CCP antibody in cerebrospinal fluid may be helpful as the evaluation of the treatment.

The XRD patterns of the deposition structures in all groups were similar to those of sound dentin, and the contact angle of water decreased after γ-PGA/TCP treatment.The aim was to evaluate and compare certain physical properties including surface-wear of five commercial short fiber-reinforced composites (SFRCs; Alert, NovaPro-Flow, NovaPro-Fill, everX Flow and everX Posterior). The following properties were examined according to ISO flexural strength, flexural modulus, fracture toughness, water sorption. Degree of conversion was determined by FTIR-spectrometry. A wear test was conducted with 15,000 chewing-cycles using a chewing-simulator. Polymerization shrinkage-stress was measured using tensilometer. SEM was used to evaluate the microstructure of SFRCs. everX Flow exhibited the highest fracture toughness (2.8 MPa m1/2) and the lowest wear depth (20.4 µm) values (p less then 0.05) among the SFRCs tested. NovaPro Fill (141.5 MPa) and everX Flow (147 MPa) presented the highest flexural strength values (p less then 0.05). everX Flow showed the highest shrinkage-stress value (5.3 MPa) while other SFRCs had comparable values. The use of SFRCs in dentistry can be advantageous, but special attention should be given to the selection of the materials.To characterize concentrated growth factors (CGFs) in vivo, we examined the degradation of implanted CGF in rabbits. Untreated CGF (U-CGF) and compressed CGF (C-CGF) were subcutaneously implanted into the dorsum. Histological analyses showed that the U-CGF and C-CGF induced very few inflammatory cells and that the U-CGF and C-CGF were subsequently degraded with dendritic invasion of granulation tissue. The C-CGF histopathologically remained for longer term than the U-CGF. Aggregated CD31+ and RAM11+ cells appeared in and around the implanted CGF. The number of macrophages and blood vessels in the CGF-implanted groups was greater than that in the sham group. There were more blood vessels in the U-CGF group than that in the C-CGF and sham group. We showed that CGF was degraded by macrophages in 4 weeks and enhanced angiogenesis with dendritically branching new capillaries. Therefore, the U-CGF and C-CGF can be clinically applied as a biomaterial inducing angiogenesis.Over the course of the new coronavirus infectious disease (coronavirus disease 2019; COVID-19) pandemic, our social situation has been changing dramatically, in addition to the substantial efforts made for the early and appropriate management of COVID-19 and preventing this infection spreading. Recently, neurological symptoms associated with COVID-19 have been shown to be not uncommon, with headaches receiving attention as one of the main neurological symptoms. The frequency of headaches associated with COVID-19 ranged from 5.6% to 70.3%, based on 21 clinical studies and 8 meta-analyses. However, headaches were observed in 11.1% to 81.0% of non-COVID-19 individuals, including healthcare workers caring for COVID-19 patients. Although detailed descriptions of headaches were rarely provided in the literature obtained, in this article, I wil discuss the frequency and characteristics of headaches, and the pathophysiology of headaches as it relateds to COVID-19.We report a 62-year-old female with rheumatoid meningitis. She presented with mental disorder, loss of consciousness, generalized seizures, and cognitive impairment. Brain MRI demonstrated high intensity lesions and abnormal enhancement along the left frontal and parietal sulci. Her serum and cerebrospinal fluid were positive for anti-cyclic citrullinated peptides (CCP) antibody, and the antibody index of cerebrospinal fluid anti-CCP antibody increased, which led us to suspect rheumatoid meningitis. Her symptoms improved immediately by methylpredonisolone pulse therapy and anti-CCP antibody turned negative in cerebrospinal fluid. However, she revealed arthritis with the reduction of betamethasone and was diagnosed as rheumatoid arthritis. We suggest that the elevation of antibody index of cerebrospinal fluid anti-CCP antibody is useful in the diagnosis of rheumatoid meningitis preceding neurological symptoms without arthritis, and anti-CCP antibody in cerebrospinal fluid may be helpful as the evaluation of the treatment.
