    To investigate the association between ****'s palsy and stroke according to the different types of stroke, using a sample cohort based on the national Korean population.

    The risk of ischemic stroke was significantly increased in ****'s palsy patients compared to that in the controls (adjusted HR=1.74, 95% CI=1.38-2.19, P < 0.001). In the subgroup analyses, a significant association between two clinical disorders was observed in patients aged ≥ 50 years old, regardless of gender.     Tinnitus is a phantom auditory sensation, which is mainly triggered by dysfunction of the peripheral auditory organ, such as cochlear disorders. Additionally, the central nervous system, specifically the limbic system, plays a crucial role in the generation and exacerbation of tinnitus. Therefore, to analyze the hypothesis that tinnitus has strong and specific association with the plastic changes in the limbic system, we assessed the neuronal plastic changes in the limbic system, including the hippocampus and the amygdala, in rats with single-sided tinnitus.

    The cochlear damage was achieved by irradiating the cochlea with laser-induced shock wave (LISW). While both hearing loss and tinnitus were confirmed after exposure of rats to LISW, the degree of tinnitus was objectively measured using gap detection behavioral tests.     The successful management of odontogenic maxillary sinusitis (OMS) involves a combination of medical treatment with dental surgery and/or endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS). However, there is no consensus for the optimal timing of ESS. Although several studies have emphasized dental surgery as the primary treatment modality for OMS, there is recent evidence to suggest that ESS alone may be an effective treatment approach. The purpose of this study is to retrospectively investigate the pathophysiology of the current intractable OMS and the role ESS, especially ESS preceding dental treatment, plays in its pathophysiology.

    Exploratory case study describing elements of advanced practice nursing in one of the largest hospitals in New York City, United States of America. The practice of certified nurse-midwives and women's health nurse practitioners was observed between April and May 2019. The data were analyzed inductively and a category scheme was developed from the analysis of field notes.

    The results were organized into the following categories activities that are commonly performed; foundations that support practice; differential function of these professionals; interaction with other health professionals; barriers to practice; facilitating elements; and results of the practice.

    The observation of advanced practice nursing in another context, such as the United States, is a relevant step in the process of its implementation in Brazil. Nursing professionals and other stakeholders need to understand this practice in order to truly support the implementation process.

In fish, S. agalactiae causes streptococcosis, which is characterized by septicemia and neurological signs, and leads to great economic losses to the fish farming industry worldwide. These bacteria can be classified into different serotypes based on capsular antigens, and into different sequence types (ST) based on multilocus sequence typing (MLST). In 2015, serotype III ST283 was identified to be associated with a foodborne invasive disease in non-pregnant immunocompetent humans in Singapore, and the infection was related to raw fish consumption. In addition, a serotype III strain isolated from tilapia in Brazil has been reported to be resistant to five antibiotic classes. This specific serotype can serve as a reservoir of resistance genes and pose a serious threat to public health. Thus, new approaches for the control and treatment of S. agalactiae infections are needed. In the present study, 24 S. agalactiae serotype III complete genomes, isolated from human and fish hosts, were compared. The core genome was identified, and, using bioinformatics tools and subtractive criteria, five proteins were identified as potential drug targets. Furthermore, 5,008 drug-like natural compounds were virtually screened against the identified targets. The ligands with the best binding properties are suggested for further in vitro and in vivo analysis.Lung cancer is one of the most common human cancers both in incidence and mortality, with prognosis particularly poor in metastatic cases. Metastasis in lung cancer is a multifarious process driven by a complex regulatory landscape involving many mechanisms, genes, and proteins. Membrane proteins play a crucial role in the metastatic journey both inside tumor cells and the extra-cellular matrix and are a viable area of research focus with the potential to uncover biomarkers and drug targets. In this work we performed membrane proteome analysis of highly and poorly metastatic lung cells which integrated genomic, proteomic, and transcriptional data. A total of 1,762 membrane proteins were identified, and within this set, there were 163 proteins with significant changes between the two cell lines. We applied the Tied Diffusion through Interacting Events method to integrate the differentially expressed disease-related microRNAs and functionally dys-regulated membrane protein information to further explore the role of key membrane proteins and microRNAs in multi-omics context. Has-miR-137 was revealed as a key gene involved in the activity of membrane proteins by targeting MET and PXN, affecting membrane proteins through protein-protein interaction mechanism. #link# Furthermore, we found that the membrane proteins CDH2, EGFR, ITGA3, ITGA5, ITGB1, and CALR may have significant effect on cancer prognosis and outcomes, which were further validated in vitro. Homoeologous exchanges (HEs) have been reported in young allopolyploids from across the angiosperms. Although all lineages undergo karyotype change via chromosome rearrangements over time, the early generations after allopolyploid formation are predicted to show an accelerated rate of genomic change. HEs can also cause changes in allele dosage, genome-wide methylation patterns, and downstream phenotypes, and can hence be responsible for speciation and genome stabilization events.

  • Density functional theory (DFT) is often used for simulating extended materials such as infinite crystals or surfaces, under periodic boundary conditions (PBCs). In such calculations, when the simulation cell has non-zero charge, electrical neutrality has to be imposed, and this is often done via a uniform background charge of opposite sign ("jellium"). This artificial neutralization does not occur in reality, where a different mechanism is followed as in the example of a charged electrode in electrolyte solution, where the surrounding electrolyte screens the local charge at the interface. The neutralizing effect of the surrounding electrolyte can be incorporated within a hybrid quantum-continuum model based on a modified Poisson-Boltzmann equation, where the concentrations of electrolyte ions are modified to achieve electroneutrality. Among the infinite possible ways of modifying the electrolyte charge, we propose here a physically optimal solution, which minimizes the deviation of concentrations of electrolyte ions from those in open boundary conditions (OBCs). This principle of correspondence of PBCs with OBCs leads to the correct concentration profiles of electrolyte ions, and electroneutrality within the simulation cell and in the bulk electrolyte is maintained simultaneously, as observed in experiments. This approach, which we call the Neutralization by Electrolyte Concentration Shift (NECS), is implemented in our electrolyte model in the Order-N Electronic Total Energy Package (ONETEP) linear-scaling DFT code, which makes use of a bespoke highly parallel Poisson-Boltzmann solver, DL_MG. We further propose another neutralization scheme ("accessible jellium"), which is a simplification of NECS. We demonstrate and compare the different neutralization schemes on several examples.Mapping an atomistic configuration to a symmetrized N-point correlation of a field associated with the atomic positions (e.g., an atomic density) has emerged as an elegant and effective solution to represent structures as the input of machine-learning algorithms. We discuss how to exploit recursion relations between equivariant features of different order (generalizations of N-body invariants that provide a complete representation of the symmetries of improper rotations) to compute high-order terms efficiently. In combination with the automatic selection of the most expressive combination of features at each order, this approach provides a conceptual and practical framework to generate systematically improvable, symmetry adapted representations for atomistic machine learning.Using molecular dynamics simulations, we investigate how the structural and vibrational properties of the surfaces of sodo-silicate glasses depend on the sodium content as well as the nature of the surface. Two types of glass surfaces are considered A melt-formed surface (MS) in which a liquid with a free surface has been cooled down into the glass phase and a fracture surface (FS) obtained by tensile loading of a glass sample. We find that the MS is more abundant in Na and non-bridging oxygen atoms than the FS and the bulk glass, whereas the FS has higher concentration of structural defects such as two-membered rings and under-coordinated Si than the MS. We associate these structural differences to the production histories of the glasses and the mobility of the Na ions. It is also found that for Na-poor systems, the fluctuations in composition and local atomic charge density decay with a power-law as a function of distance from the surface, while Na-rich systems show an exponential decay with a typical decay length of ≈2.3 Å. The vibrational density of states shows that the presence of the surfaces leads to a decrease in the characteristic frequencies in the system. We also use our almost exact energies to benchmark energies from the coupled cluster method with single, double, and perturbative triple excitations. The energies are extrapolated to the complete basis set limit and compared to the experimental atomization energies.
    Density functional theory (DFT) is often used for simulating extended materials such as infinite crystals or surfaces, under periodic boundary conditions (PBCs). In such calculations, when the simulation cell has non-zero charge, electrical neutrality has to be imposed, and this is often done via a uniform background charge of opposite sign ("jellium"). This artificial neutralization does not occur in reality, where a different mechanism is followed as in the example of a charged electrode in electrolyte solution, where the surrounding electrolyte screens the local charge at the interface. The neutralizing effect of the surrounding electrolyte can be incorporated within a hybrid quantum-continuum model based on a modified Poisson-Boltzmann equation, where the concentrations of electrolyte ions are modified to achieve electroneutrality. Among the infinite possible ways of modifying the electrolyte charge, we propose here a physically optimal solution, which minimizes the deviation of concentrations of electrolyte ions from those in open boundary conditions (OBCs). This principle of correspondence of PBCs with OBCs leads to the correct concentration profiles of electrolyte ions, and electroneutrality within the simulation cell and in the bulk electrolyte is maintained simultaneously, as observed in experiments. This approach, which we call the Neutralization by Electrolyte Concentration Shift (NECS), is implemented in our electrolyte model in the Order-N Electronic Total Energy Package (ONETEP) linear-scaling DFT code, which makes use of a bespoke highly parallel Poisson-Boltzmann solver, DL_MG. We find that the MS is more abundant in Na and non-bridging oxygen atoms than the FS and the bulk glass, whereas the FS has higher concentration of structural defects such as two-membered rings and under-coordinated Si than the MS. We associate these structural differences to the production histories of the glasses and the mobility of the Na ions. It is also found that for Na-poor systems, the fluctuations in composition and local atomic charge density decay with a power-law as a function of distance from the surface, while Na-rich systems show an exponential decay with a typical decay length of ≈2.3 Å.     To review the role of physiotherapy and its effects in hospice care of patients with advanced cancer.

    A comprehensive literature search was performed in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, CINAHL and PEDro. The search strategy was devised, articles were screened, and 2 independent reviewers conducted data extraction. Eligible studies were methodologically assessed for quality rating using modified Downs and Black's checklist. The extracted data was summarized according to site/stage of cancer, details of intervention, outcome measures and the results.

    The total number of screened articles were 2102, out of which 9 were identified as suitable for the purposes of comprehensive review. The studies included exercise therapy, massage therapy, relaxation therapy, compression bandaging and use of TENS as the various physiotherapy interventions under consideration. Studies were generally of low to moderate quality. A broad range of outcomes were employed including physical symptoms like loss of function, pain, fatigue, edema, sleep disturbances and quality of life. The findings of the studies supported the benefits of the interventions.

    A structured exercise protocol, massage therapy, TENS and compression bandaging are useful in alleviating the symptoms experienced by patients with advanced cancer in hospice care. The reduced symptom burden has reflected as an improvement in their quality of life. However, there is a further need for high quality studies to strengthen the findings of this review.

A woman presented with progressive dyspnoea limiting her quality of life. Imaging showed a Bochdalek hernia containing omentum, large bowel and the left kidney. The woman was unexpectedly admitted to the intensive care unit with respiratory failure secondary to gallstone pancreatitis whilst awaiting elective repair of her hernia. Surgical repair of the hernia was performed via laparotomy with cholecystectomy to treat both problems. The woman recovered well and is independently mobile without any exertional dyspnoea.
    Necrotising fasciitis with sepsis is a life threatening disease. The aim of this study was to analyse the association between international normalised ratio (INR) and mortality in sepsis patients with necrotising fasciitis.

    A retrospective review was undertaken of 106 patients suffering from necrotising fasciitis with sepsis between November 2007 and December 2016. Data on comorbidities, clinical manifestations, laboratory findings, causative microbiological organisms, APACHE II (Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II) score and outcomes were extracted. Logistic regression was carried out to examine the factors affecting mortality.

    Forty patients (37.7%) died. There was no significant difference in the white blood count (WBC) for the survivor and non-survivor groups. Non-survivors had a lower mean oxygenation index (OI) (288.7mmHg vs 329.4mmHg,
    =0.032) and platelet count (PC) (139.5 vs 214.8 x 10

First, a systematic slowing down of reaction time speed is typically observed following error commission, which is known as post-error slowing (PES). Second, response errors have been reported to be automatically evaluated as negative events in adults. However, it remains unclear whether (i) children process response errors as adults do (PES), (ii) they also evaluate them as negative events, and (iii) their responses vary according to the pedagogy experienced. To address these questions, we adapted a simple decision-making task previously validated in adults to measure PES as well as the affective processing of response errors. #link# We recruited 8-12 year old children enrolled in traditional (N = 56) or Montessori (N = 45) schools, and compared them to adults (N = 46) on the exact same task. Results showed that children processed correct actions as positive events, and that adults processed errors as negative events. By contrast, PES was similarly observed in all groups. Moreover, the former effect was observed in traditional schoolchildren, but not in Montessori schoolchildren.     Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD) biomarkers in cognitively normal (CN) and mild cognitive impaired (MCI) participants. However, independent and combined effects of OSA, amyloid beta (Aβ) and tau-accumulation on AD time-dependent progression risk is unclear.

    Study participants grouped by biomarker profile, as described by the A/T/N scheme, where "A" refers to aggregated Aβ, "T" aggregated tau, and "N" to neurodegeneration, included 258 CN (OSA-positive [OSA+] [A+TN+ n = 10, A+/TN- n = 6, A-/TN+ n = 10, A-/TN- n = 6 and OSA-negative [OSA-] [A+TN+ n = 84, A+/TN- n = 11, A-/TN+ n = 96, A-/TN- n = 36]) and 785 MCI (OSA+ [A+TN+ n = 35, A+/TN- n = 15, A-/TN+ n = 25, A-/TN- n = 16] and OSA- [A+TN+ n = 388, A+/TN- n = 28, A-/TN+ n = 164, A-/TN- n = 114]) older-adults from the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative cohort.     Samples for measurement were collected from 23 women with GDM and 23 healthy controls. MEG3 gene expression and DNA methylation levels were assessed using quantitative real-time PCR and MethylTargetTM, respectively. Pearson correlation analyses were used to examine associations between placental DNA methylation levels and clinical variables of interest. The associate results were adjusted by multivariate linear regression for maternal age, BMI, height, gestational age and newborn gender as confounders.

    We found that the DNA methylation levels in the MEG3 differentially methylated region (MEG3-DMR) were significantly different between the GDM and control groups on the maternal side of the placenta (40.64 ± 2.15 vs. 38.33 ± 2.92; P=0.004). Furthermore, the mean MEG3 DNA methylation levels were correlated positively with maternal fasting glucose concentrations (R = 0.603, P<0.001) and newborn birth weight (R = 0.568, P<0.001).

To address these questions, we adapted a simple decision-making task previously validated in adults to measure PES as well as the affective processing of response errors. #link# We recruited 8-12 year old children enrolled in traditional (N = 56) or Montessori (N = 45) schools, and compared them to adults (N = 46) on the exact same task. This unlicensed drug has not been studied clinically, because of lack of Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (UK) or Food and Drug Administration (US) approval to undertake such studies.

    The aim of this service evaluation was to assess the safety profile and effectiveness of propofol-remifentanil mixtures in the pediatric population undergoing a variety of surgical procedures.

    Pediatric Anesthetists in the UK and Ireland who regularly used propofol-remifentanil mixtures for total intravenous anesthesia were invited to submit data. This data were analyzed to assess the effectiveness of anesthesia and the incidence and nature of any complications that occurred.

    database was reviewed for ophthalmology litigation in the United States between 1930 and 2014. All ophthalmic trauma cases were included and compared to non-traumatic ophthalmology malpractice cases.

    Forty-four ophthalmic trauma cases were included. Of these cases, 90.9% of ophthalmic trauma plaintiffs were male compared to 54.8% of plaintiffs in ophthalmology as a whole (P=<0.001); 34.1% of cases involved minor plaintiffs compared to 6.4% in ophthalmology as a whole (P=<0.001). Cases involving minors were more likely to be resolved in favor of the plaintiff than cases involving adult plaintiffs (53.3% vs 37.9%); however, this was not found to statistically significant (P=0.35). Overall, 54.5% of cases were resolved in favor of defendants; 40.9% of cases were resolved via jury trial with 50.0% resulting in payments to plaintiffs compared to the 29.6% rate of plaintiff verdicts in ophthalmolo to inform risk management.

    The data of 191 patients with primary open-angle glaucoma, with a predominance of normal-tension glaucoma, were used for this study. The model was developed based on patients' backgrounds and risk factors, using Monte Carlo simulation. The primary measure of interest was the change in macular thickness from baseline to the 15- and 30-day visits. The frequency and severity of reported ocular adverse events were tabulated for each group and compared.

Here, we present new results from field measures of undisturbed behavior and biochemical analyses of scent marks from 12 species of Sceloporus lizards to explore whether evolutionary changes in chemical composition are better predicted by measures of species behavior, particularly those associated with visual displays, chemoreception, and locomotion, or by measures of habitat climate (precipitation and temperature). We found that more active lizard species used fewer compounds in their volatile scent marks, perhaps conveying less specific information about individual and species identity. Scent marks from more active lizard species also had higher proportions of saturated fatty acids, and the evolution of these compounds has been tracking the phylogeny closely as we would expect for a metabolic byproduct. In contrast, the proportions of unsaturated fatty acids were better explained by evolutionary shifts in habitat temperature (and not precipitation), with species in warmer climates using almost no volatile unsaturated fatty acids.

HDV/HBV co-infected patients and HBV mono-infected patients were compared clinically and virologically.

    Spastic paraplegia type 30 (SPG30) caused by KIF1A mutations was first reported in 2011 and was initially considered a very rare autosomal recessive (AR) form. In the last years, thanks to the development of massive parallel sequencing, SPG30 proved to be a rather common autosomal dominant (AD) form of familial or sporadic spastic paraplegia (SPG),, with a wide range of phenotypes pure and complicated. The aim of our study is to detect AD SPG30 cases and to examine their molecular and clinical characteristics for the first time in the Russian population.

    This study will provide the evidence of whether probiotics is an effective and safe intervention for coronavirus disease 2019 with diarrhea.PROSPERO registration number CRD42020192657.Arthroscopic techniques are considered the gold standard for treatment of displaced avulsion fractures of the anterior cruciate ligament. However, most arthroscopic surgical techniques and fixation methods are technically demanding and require removal of hard implant. This report describes a new, easy, safe, and all-arthroscopic method for reduction and fixation of displaced tibial intercondylar eminence fractures by using 1 anchor and 1 Pushlock.From January 2015 to June 2017, 8 adult patients with type II and III displaced tibial intercondylar eminence fractures were operated using this technique. Clinical assessment included patient demographics, cause of injury, delay before surgery, operation time, time to return to work and sport, International Knee Documentation Committee scores, and Lysholm knee scores.The average operation time was 48 minutes. The average follow-up period was 12.5 months. At the 6-month follow-up, all patients had acquired fracture union and complete functional recovery and were able to return to work. International Knee Documentation Committee objective scores and Lysholm knee scores were 92.4 (range 88-94) and 93.6 (range 90-96), respectively.
