A growing number of patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is at working age and need to return to work (RTW) after surgery. The aim of this systematic review is to give an overview of the literature regarding RTW after TKA and beneficial and limiting factors influencing this process. A systematic search in four electronic databases was conducted in November 2019 to identify studies describing RTW after primary TKA in patients aged 65 years or younger. Study characteristics and data on work status before and after surgery were extracted. All studies were assessed for risk of bias. Fourteen studies published between 2009 and 2019 were included in this review, accounting for a total of 3,073 patients. The percentage of patients working after TKA ranged from 36 to 89%, and the fraction of patients working before and returning to work after surgery ranged from 40 to 98%. Mean time of RTW ranged from 7.7 to 16.6 weeks. Most important factors associated with a slower or no RTW were a more physical nature of employment and preoperative absence from work. The majority of patients undergoing TKA returned to work postoperatively. However, comparison between studies is seriously hampered by the wide variation regarding the definition and timeframe used to measure the work status. Therefore, standardized outcome measures for studies investigating RTW after TKA are warranted. We identify this review as level-I evidence (systematic review of level-I and level-II studies).We assessed the impact of a minimal medial soft-tissue release with complete peripheral osteophyte removal on the ability to attain manual preresection deformity correction during navigation-assisted total knee arthroplasty (TKA) for varus osteoarthritis. We included 131 TKAs for 109 patients with medial compartment predominant osteoarthritis. The steps for achieving minimal medial soft-tissue release were performed as follows (1) elevation of a periosteal sleeve to 5-mm distal to the joint line and (2) complete removal of peripheral osteophytes. The evaluation criteria of this study were as follows (1) age, (2) height, (3) weight, (4) body mass index (BMI), (5) sex, (6) the preoperative femorotibial mechanical angle in the neutral position before medial release and (7) the mechanical angle in maximum manual valgus stress after the two-step medial-release procedure (measured on the navigation screens). Multiple regression analysis of the criteria was performed to determine the degree of varus deformity that allowed neutral alignment but required extensive medial release. The femorotibial mechanical angle in the neutral position before medial release and sex correlated with the mechanical angle in maximum manual valgus stress on the navigation screen after medial release (r = 0.72, p less then 0.001). Based on the regression formula, the maximum degree of preoperative varus deformity that allowed neutral alignment by the minimum medial-release procedure was 5.3 degrees for males and 9.1 degrees for females. The magnitude of deformity which has an impact on the ability to correct varus deformity (by minimal soft-tissue release and complete osteophyte removal) was clarified. To perform more precise restoration of JL, an SBT with markers was developed and produced using computer software and three-dimensional printers. The study was planned prospectively to include patients who received either condylar constrained or rotating hinge RTKA between January 2016 and December 2019. To determine JL, distance from fibular head (FH), adductor tubercle (AT), and medial epicondyle (ME) were measured on contralateral knee preoperative radiographs and on operated knee postoperative radiographs. Patients were randomized and grouped according to the technique of JL reconstruction. In Group 1, conventional methods by evaluating aforementioned landmarks and preoperative contralateral knee measurements were used to determine JL, whereas in Group 2, the SBT was used.

As with any minimally invasive technique, relief of bladder outlet obstruction is less pronounced after PAE compared to more invasive resective techniques. This is likely to be associated with higher re-intervention rates during the longer term. However, due to its beneficial safety profile, PAE represents an interesting option for many patients and could fill a niche between pharmacotherapy and formal surgical intervention. Given its unique treatment approach, i.e. endovascular instead of transurethral, PAE has a clearly different profile compared to other minimally invasive treatments. Performance with local anesthesia with possible continuation of anticoagulant drugs and no upper prostate size limit are the most important advantages of PAE.

Moreover, their role as stationary phase in chromatography is gaining relevance. We investigate a material consisting of multiwall carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles towards its use as a mixed-mode chromatography material. The idea is to immobilize the ion exchange material iron oxide on CNTs as a stable matrix for chromatography processes without a significant pressure drop. Iron oxide nanoparticles are synthesized and used to decorate the CNTs via a co-precipitation route. They bind to the walls of oxidized CNTs, thereby enabling to magnetically separate the composite material. This hybrid material is investigated with transmission electron microscopy, magnetometry, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron and Raman spectroscopy. Moreover, we determine its specific surface area and its wetting behavior. We also demonstrate its applicability as chromatography material for amino acid retention, describing the adsorption and desorption of different amino acids in a complex porous system surrounded by aqueous media. Thus, this material can be used as chromatographic matrix and as a magnetic batch adsorbent material due to the iron oxide nanoparticles. Our work contributes to current research on composite materials. Such materials are necessary for developing novel industrial applications or improving the performance of established processes.

The recent literature highlights the role of imaging studies such as computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and positron emission tomography as useful tools for the diagnosis of retroperitoneal fibrosis, with retroperitoneal biopsy being reserved to atypical cases. The treatment approach is mainly conservative and is based on the use of medical therapies plus urological interventions. Medical therapies essentially comprise glucocorticoids and immunosuppressants-either traditional or biological agents such as rituximab. Surgical ureterolysis is only left for refractory cases. Recent findings in retroperitoneal fibrosis highlight the possibility of a non-invasive diagnostic approach and a conservative treatment strategy.

Theoretical and modelling approaches were undertaken on Nigerian livestock industry to estimate financial losses due to African animal trypanosomosis.
Surveys were conducted between March 2018 and February 2019 to include focus group interactions, in-depth household engagements concerning livestock practices in relation to AAT. Financial losses estimation on livestock were targeted to provide ways to regain cost and maximize household livelihoods. Mathematical equation was developed to project the effects of intervention strategies. Important variables such as mean AAT prevalence, incidence rate, birth rate, morbidity and mortality were estimated and inserted in the model.
Mean total income per capita was US$ 1.31 / person / day among livestock producers in Nigeria. A total of US$ 518. 9 million were estimated from direct losses, while US$ 58.8 million as indirect losses. Annual estimated losses to AAT from cattle, sheep, goat and pigs in Nigeria is US$ 577.7 million. This is equivalent to 207.98 billion Nigerian naira and represents 6.93% of annual livestock GDP in the country. This could increase to 85% in the next 50 years if there are no proper control interventions. Control efforts could reduce the losses to US$ 16.7 million at the rate of 0.2% during the same period.

Hydrogen Fluoride (HF) inhalation is one of the industrial accidents. It causes serious damage, although it is quickly recognized. Since hydrofluoric acid leaks are under surveillance by the alarm system, and low concentrations of gas also have a distinctive smell, most accidents occur from exposure in a short period to a large amount of HF. Thus, prolonged exposure to HF is exceedingly rare in a developed country. We report seven cases of chemical pneumonitis due to HF inhalation to share clinical course and prognosis.Severe bronchial asthma is a challenging disorder to treat and can impair quality of life (QOL) under conventional therapeutic modalities. We report the case of a 52-year-old woman with severe asthma associated with eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis (ECRS) and eosinophilic otitis media (EOM). Although the patient was treated with a full dose of inhaled corticosteroid, leukotriene receptor antagonist (LTRA), theophylline, burst use of oral corticosteroids (OCS), her asthmatic condition aggravated, disrupting her daily life. ECRS and EOM symptoms were also getting worse despite treatment with topical application of corticosteroids to the nose and ears, LTRA, and occasional use of OCS. In addition to asthmatic symptom, the patient always suffered from intractable nasal obstruction and hearing disturbance, which contributed to the heavily impaired QOL. However, the administration of benralizumab showed rapid and remarkable improvement not only in her asthmatic conditions but also in the symptoms of ECRS and EOM within a month. These results suggest that the use of benralizumab for the treatment of severe asthma with intractable ECRS and EOM should be considered when the patient's QOL is severely deteriorated.Mycobacterium abscessus is a rapidly growing mycobacterium. A lumbar magnetic resonance imaging showed destructive changes of L4 and L5 vertebral bodies concerning for osteomyelitis. Blood culture and bone biopsy grew Mycobacterium abscessus again. On February 6, 2018, a magnitude-6.2 earthquake on the Richter scale struck Hualien, and that disaster killed 17 people and injured more than 300 people. Our hospital, the only tertiary hospital in eastern Taiwan, responded to a mass casualty incident (MCI) in two hours. Such a devastating earthquake infl uenced the health of the general population and the mental health of hospital staff. Thus, we aimed to analyze the medical problems in earthquake victims, the MCI response's operation, and the prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among healthcare providers.
We reviewed the medical records to investigate the information on the medical requirement of victims. Questionnaires were collected from emergency department staff regarding the operation of the MCI and the effect of regular MCI drills. Besides, we can't ignore the mental health condition of healthcare providers after the disaster. We record this tragic earthquake's valuable experience and lessons and share them with others.
Bystander-initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of automated external defibrillation (AED) is pivotal in the community chain of survival, but little is known regarding the bystander experience of performing CPR and AED, and their psychological infl uence from the incidents in the Asian community. This qualitative study was conducted to explore the experiences of lay rescuers who had performed CPR and AED in public locations in Taiwan.
Lay rescuers who had provided initial CPR and defi brillation with AED in public locations across Taiwan in 2015 were selectively recruited from Taiwan Public AED Registry for a semi-structured interview.
Nine participants were included in the study, and event-to-interview duration was within 1 year (n = 4) and 1-2 years (n = 5). The major fi ndings from the study were (1) the lay rescuers possessed helping traits and high motivation; (2) the lay rescuers reported certain aspects of rescue reality that differed **** from prior training and expectations, including diffi culty in the depth of chest compression, and uncertainties in real emergency situations; (3) the lay rescuers gained positive personal fulfi llment in sharing their experience and receiving positive feedback from others, and were willing to help next time, although they experienced a short-term negative psychological impact from the event.
Hydrogen Fluoride (HF) inhalation is one of the industrial accidents. It causes serious damage, although it is quickly recognized. Since hydrofluoric acid leaks are under surveillance by the alarm system, and low concentrations of gas also have a distinctive smell, most accidents occur from exposure in a short period to a large amount of HF. Thus, prolonged exposure to HF is exceedingly rare in a developed country. We report seven cases of chemical pneumonitis due to HF inhalation to share clinical course and prognosis.Severe bronchial asthma is a challenging disorder to treat and can impair quality of life (QOL) under conventional therapeutic modalities. We report the case of a 52-year-old woman with severe asthma associated with eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis (ECRS) and eosinophilic otitis media (EOM). Although the patient was treated with a full dose of inhaled corticosteroid, leukotriene receptor antagonist (LTRA), theophylline, burst use of oral corticosteroids (OCS), her asthmatic condition aggravated, disrupting her daily life. ECRS and EOM symptoms were also getting worse despite treatment with topical application of corticosteroids to the nose and ears, LTRA, and occasional use of OCS. In addition to asthmatic symptom, the patient always suffered from intractable nasal obstruction and hearing disturbance, which contributed to the heavily impaired QOL. However, the administration of benralizumab showed rapid and remarkable improvement not only in her asthmatic conditions but also in the symptoms of ECRS and EOM within a month. These results suggest that the use of benralizumab for the treatment of severe asthma with intractable ECRS and EOM should be considered when the patient's QOL is severely deteriorated.Mycobacterium abscessus is a rapidly growing mycobacterium. It rarely causes disseminated infection or endocarditis. A 55-year-old male with a history of hepatitis C, liver cirrhosis, intravenous drug use (last use was four years ago), and chronic back pain presented with a three-week history of a right calf nodular lesion. He did not have a fever, chills, rash, dyspnea, or cough. Laboratory data showed mild leukocytosis. Computed tomography of the chest revealed bilateral cavitating nodules. Skin biopsy, sputum, and blood cultures grew Mycobacterium abscessus. Therapy with meropenem, tigecycline, and amikacin was initiated. He was re-admitted with worsening lower back pain. A lumbar magnetic resonance imaging showed destructive changes of L4 and L5 vertebral bodies concerning for osteomyelitis. Blood culture and bone biopsy grew Mycobacterium abscessus again. Such a devastating earthquake infl uenced the health of the general population and the mental health of hospital staff. Thus, we aimed to analyze the medical problems in earthquake victims, the MCI response's operation, and the prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among healthcare providers. Both internal consistency (low pain alpha = 0.735; high pain alpha = 0.928) and test-retest reliability (r = 0.846) of the Japanese version of the Paediatric Pain Profile were good. Intra-observer reliability was substantial (r = 0.748), whereas inter-observer reliability was only moderate (r = 0.529). However, the concurrent validity with Face, Legs, Activity, Cry, Consolability scores was good (r = 0.629) and construct validity was confirmed (p less then 0.001). We confirmed the validity of the Japanese version of the Paediatric Pain Profile, but reliable pain assessment may require repeated ratings by the same person. To accurately assess pain in children with severe motor and intellectual disabilities, healthcare staff must be properly trained and become more skilled in using the Japanese version of the Paediatric Pain Profile.Chronic Chagas disease cardiomyopathy (CCC), an especially aggressive inflammatory dilated cardiomyopathy caused by lifelong infection with the protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi, is a major cause of cardiomyopathy in Latin America. Although chronic myocarditis may play a major pathogenetic role, little is known about the molecular mechanisms responsible for its severity. The aim of this study is to study the genes and microRNAs expression in tissues and their connections in regards to the pathobiological processes. To do so, we integrated for the first time global microRNA and mRNA expression profiling from myocardial tissue of CCC patients employing pathways and network analyses. We observed an enrichment in biological processes and pathways associated with the immune response and metabolism. IFNγ, TNF and NFkB were the top upstream regulators. The intersections between differentially expressed microRNAs and differentially expressed target mRNAs showed an enrichment in biological processes such as Inflammation, inflammation, Th1/IFN-γ-inducible genes, fibrosis, hypertrophy, and mitochondrial/oxidative stress/antioxidant response. MicroRNAs also played a role in the regulation of gene expression involved in the key cardiomyopathy-related processes fibrosis, hypertrophy, myocarditis and arrhythmia. Significantly, a discrete number of differentially expressed microRNAs targeted a high number of differentially expressed mRNAs (>20) in multiple processes. Our results suggest that miRNAs orchestrate expression of multiple genes in the major pathophysiological processes in CCC heart tissue. In two independent studies, we performed a factorial analysis of correspondence of the words provided by the participants as well as a similitude analysis. The results indicated that "fair price" was mainly associated with time, effort and experience level of photographers. Both French- and English-speaking samples made similar associations around the concept of fair price but the order of importance varied. We observed some gender-related differences in both samples, although the relative number of male and female participants must be taken into consideration.Primordial follicle assembly in the mouse occurs during perinatal ages and largely determines the ovarian reserve that will be available to support the reproductive life span. In the present research, using single-cell RNA sequencing performed over a time series on murine ovaries, coupled with several bioinformatics analyses, the complete dynamic genetic programs of germ and granulosa cells from E16.5 to postnatal day (PD) 3 were reported. Along with confirming the previously reported expression of genes by germ cells and granulosa cells, our analyses identified 5 distinct cell clusters associated with germ cells and 6 with granulosa cells. Consequently, several new genes expressed at significant levels at each investigated stage were assigned. By building single-cell pseudotemporal trajectories, 3 states and 1 branch point of fate transition for the germ cells were revealed, as well as for the granulosa cells.

These enantiocomplementary chiral polyesters are thermally stable and have specific helical structures, which was confirmed by circular dichroism (CD) spectra, scanning electron microscope (SEM), and molecular calculation.Spatial and momentum distributions of excited charge carriers in nanoplasmonic systems depend sensitively on optical excitation parameters and nanoscale geometry, which therefore control the efficiency and functionality of plasmon-enhanced catalysts, photovoltaics, and nanocathodes. Growing appreciation over the past decade for the different roles of volume- vs surface-mediated excitation in such systems has underscored the need for explicit separation and quantification of these pathways. Toward these ends, we utilize angle-resolved photoelectron velocity map imaging to distinguish these processes in gold nanorods of different aspect ratios down to the spherical limit. Despite coupling to the longitudinal surface plasmon, we find that resonantly excited nanorods always exhibit transverse (sideways) multiphoton photoemission distributions due to photoexcitation within volume field enhancement regions rather than at the tip hot spots. This behavior is accurately reproduced via ballistic Monte Carlo modeling, establishing that volume-excited electrons primarily escape through the nanorod sides. Furthermore, we demonstrate optical control over the photoelectron angular distributions via a screening-induced transition from volume (transverse/side) to surface (longitudinal/tip) photoemission with red detuning of the excitation laser. Frequency-dependent cross sections are separately quantified for these mechanisms by comparison with theoretical calculations, combining volume and surface velocity-resolved photoemission modeling. Based on these results, we identify nanomaterial-specific contributions to the photoemission cross sections and offer general nanoplasmonic design principles for controlling photoexcitation/emission distributions via geometry- and frequency-dependent tuning of the volume vs surface fields.Linalool, as a fragrant monoterpene, is an important feedstock for food, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics industries. Although our previous study had significantly increased linalool production by the directed evolution of linalool synthase and overexpression of the whole mevalonate pathway genes, the engineered yeast strain suffered from dramatically reduced biomass. Herein, a stress-free linalool-producing yeast cell factory was constructed by the combinational regulation of linalool synthase and farnesyl diphosphate synthase instead of multienzyme overexpression. First, the expression level of linalool synthase was successfully enhanced by introducing a N-terminal SKIK tag, which improved linalool production by 3.3-fold. Subsequently, the modular assembly of linalool synthase and dominant negative farnesyl diphosphate synthase via short peptide tags efficiently converted geranyl pyrophosphate to linalool. Additional downregulation of the native farnesyl diphosphate synthase led to the highest reported linalool production (80.9 mg/L) in yeast. Moreover, the potentiostatic electrochemical impedance spectroscopy has been employed to provide an insightful look into the charge transport properties, which also, for the first time, reveals the formation of a solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI) and their temperature-dependent impedance for charge transfer and adsorption. Furthermore, the effect of temperature on the electrochemical performance of the WIS supercapacitors in the temperature range from 15 to 60 °C has been studied, which presents a gravimetric capacitance of 128 F g-1 and a volumetric capacitance of 197.12 F cm-3 at 55 °C compared to 87.5 F g-1 and 134.75 F cm-3 at 15 °C. A series of deuterium-labeling experiments were conducted toward an understanding of the reaction mechanism to propose plausible catalytic cycles. Herein, a stress-free linalool-producing yeast cell factory was constructed by the combinational regulation of linalool synthase and farnesyl diphosphate synthase instead of multienzyme overexpression. First, the expression level of linalool synthase was successfully enhanced by introducing a N-terminal SKIK tag, which improved linalool production by 3.3-fold. Subsequently, the modular assembly of linalool synthase and dominant negative farnesyl diphosphate synthase via short peptide tags efficiently converted geranyl pyrophosphate to linalool. The games of hurling and camogie involve fast ball movement and a substantial physical contact with opposing players. The wearing of protective helmets with faceguards became obligatory 10 years ago and resulted in a significant reduction of craniofacial injuries. However since then a trend has emerged of players modifying helmets to improve comfort and vision. As officials are not yet required to perform pre-match checks, many players enter competition with defective protective equipment which poses a risk to both themselves and others.
We present 4 cases of penetrating upper limb injury in hurlers sustained as a result of helmet faceguards. These injuries were sustained during competitive play and the affected patients presented with portions of the faceguards embedded in their wounds. Each patient required admission to hospital and exploration of their wounds under general anaesthetic.
This case series demonstrates the dangers of modification and damage to protective helmet faceguards used in hurling and camogie. We encourage helmet manufacturers to re-engage with players to ensure that current safety equipment meets the functional demands of the modern player while adhering to approved manufacturing standards. Mandatory helmet checks before competitive games would reduce the likelihood of penetrating upper limb injury to players.

Ankle fractures are one of the most common fractures in adults aged 20-65 years. The British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) and British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (BOFAS) jointly produced Standards for Trauma (BOAST) BOAST 12, with the aim of reducing morbidity by standardising care of these injuries. The primary aim of the AUGMENT study was to determine the extent and clinical effect of variation from BOAST 12.
AUGMENT was a multi-centre prospective trainee led audit of consecutive patients presenting with an ankle fracture within a four-week period. Data were collected on patient demographics, comorbidities, management and 12-week outcome. To describe the implementation of a virtual, multi-institutional educational collaboration involving over 50 general surgery residency programs during the COVID-19 pandemic that enabled enhanced learning for surgical residents despite social-distancing requirements.
Description of Virginia Commonwealth University's virtual educational augmentation program and the development of a collaborative teaching network during the coronavirus pandemic.
This collaboration was initiated by Virginia Commonwealth University's Department of Surgery, Richmond, VA, and grew to include general surgery residency programs from across the nation.
General surgery residents and faculty from Departments of General Surgery were recruited locally via direct emails and nationally via the Association of Program Directors' listserv and Twitter. In total, 52 institutions participated from every part of the country.
A virtual, multi-institutional collaborative lecture series was initiated that grew to involve over 50 general surgery residency programs, allowing for daily didactics by experts in their fields during the initial surge of the COVID-19 pandemic, while maintaining social distancing and the provision of essential clinical care.
A multi-institutional collaboration enabled continued didactic education during the coronavirus pandemic, vastly broadening the expertise, scope and variety available to residents, while decreasing burden on faculty. We believe this can serve as a framework for future multi-institutional collaborations that extend beyond the COVID-19 era.

This imposes an ever rising there is a need for adequate transition of these patients from pediatric to adult care. Despite position statements from multiple heath care organizations and several models proposed in literature, different issues and gaps in urologic transition continue to exist. Major barriers in this transition are adolescence, a challenging time that is characterized by impulsive behavior and risk taking, and the longstanding relation between both patients and paediatric providers. Both pediatric and adult care providers need to be aware of the special needs of maturing youth with chronic care problems related to education, self-management, legal issues and psychological support during care transition. Furthermore, they need to understand and address the currently existing obstacles for adequate transition. There is need for active communication with each other and the patient to develop sustainable relationships that can support the transitioning process.

Few made frequent use of sunscreen or protective clothing and 89.5% did not self-examine their skin. The metric properties of the questionnaire revealed its excellent reliability and validity. Among the Spanish university students considered, there was little awareness of the risk of excessive sun exposure, self-protection was insufficient, the potential exposure to dangerous levels of ultraviolet radiation was high, and most had suffered one or more sunburns in the last year. Intervention strategies should be implemented to highlight the risks involved and the need for more appropriate sun protection practices. Information campaigns should be conducted in this respect so that, when these students become teachers, they will have adequate knowledge of the risks involved and of the benefits of addressing this problem effectively, and will ultimately transfer these health education competences to their own students.(1) Background drugs provide a significant benefit for patients who require medical treatment; however, their use implies an intrinsic potential danger, with the possibility of causing unwanted effects. These effects are known as adverse drug reactions (ADRs). Post-marketing drug safety surveillance detects unknown risks that have not been identified in clinical trials, and it is necessary to monitor marketed medications under real-life practice. Due to the scarce information about fixed combination of ciprofloxacin 0.3%/dexamethasone 0.1% (SDO), we performed a drug safety surveillance study. (2) Methods A prospective non-controlled drug safety surveillance study was conducted in Peruvian population. A total of 236 patients prescribed SDO were included derived from 12 sites. Patients' standardized information was collected through two phone calls, including demographics, medical history, prescribing patterns of SDO, concomitant medication, and ADRs in detail. The ADRs were classified by causality and severity, followed by outcome measures to identify new risk. (3) Results 236 patients prescribed with SDO participated in the study and 220 were included. A total of 82 ADRs/220 patients were reported after the use of SDO, presenting a ratio 0.37 ADR/patient. The most frequent ADR with SDO administration was eye irritation (30%). All ADRs were classified as non-serious, and 97.5% (n = 80) were classified as mild while 2.5% as moderate (n = 2). No cases under the severe category were identified. (4) Conclusion No new risks were found in the population where this study was conducted.In 1999, Barry Bolton postulated the presence of a basimandibular gland in the mandibles in all species of the ant genus Strumigenys, solely based on scanning microscopy observations. We now confirm the presence of this putative gland in the proximal outer part of the mandibles of 22 investigated species by histological and ultrastructural examination, including 10 short- and 12 long-mandibulate species. All species have a basimandibular gland, that is formed by 15-25 µm thick epithelial cells and belongs to class-1 following the standard classification of insect exocrine glands. We consider it a novel gland because of its peculiar bowl-shape and special arrangement of the microvilli that are confined to large vacuolar spaces instead of reaching the cuticle. The gland is most pronounced in S. mutica, particularly in the queen. In addition to this gland, we also found scattered class-3 intramandibular gland cells in the mandibles. Queens of S. mutica are peculiar in having a cluster of these cells in the distal tip of their mandibles. In two field seasons (2018 and 2019), we screened Phaseolus spp. genotypes (n = 84 in 2018; n = 80 in 2019; most of the genotypes were common in both years with a few exceptions) for resistance against CuLCrV and/or SiGMFV. We also included two commonly grown Lima bean (Phaseolus lunatus) varieties in our field screening. Twenty Phaseolus spp. genotypes with high to moderate-levels of resistance (disease severity ranging from 5%-50%) to CuLCrV and/or SiGMFV were identified. Twenty-one Phaseolus spp. genotypes were found to be highly susceptible with a disease severity of ≥66%.

Pembrolizumab monotherapy is standard first-line therapy for metastatic non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) tumor proportion score (TPS) ≥ 50% without actionable driver mutations. It is not known whether adding ipilimumab to pembrolizumab improves efficacy over pembrolizumab alone in this population.

Vibrant reform and metascience movements have emerged. These are exciting developments and may point toward practical improvements in the future. Yet there is nothing so practical as good theory. This article outlines aspects of reform and metascience in psychology that are ripe for an injection of theory, including a lot of excellent and overlooked theoretical work from different disciplines. I review established frameworks that model the process of scientific discovery, the types of scientific networks that we ought to aspire to, and the processes by which problematic norms and institutions might evolve, focusing especially on modeling from the philosophy of science and cultural evolution. We have unwittingly evolved a toxic scientific ecosystem; existing interdisciplinary theory may help us intelligently design a better one.Classroom settings bring to light many differences between children-differences that children notice and attempt to explain. Here, we advance theory on the psychological processes underlying how children explain the differences they observe in the classroom. Integrating evidence from cognitive, social, cultural, developmental, and educational psychology, we propose that young children tend to explain differences among their peers by appealing to the inherent characteristics of those individuals and, conversely, tend to overlook extrinsic reasons for such differences-that is, reasons having to do with external circumstances and structural factors. We then outline how this inherence bias in children's explanations affects their motivation and performance in school, exacerbating inequalities in achievement and making these inequalities seem legitimate. We conclude by suggesting several means of counteracting the inherence bias in children's explanations and its effects on their educational outcomes. Throughout, we highlight new directions for research on the relation between children's explanations, their motivation and achievement, and the inequalities observed in elementary school and beyond.Pleural organization may occur after empyema or complicated parapneumonic effusion and can result in restrictive lung disease with pleural fibrosis (PF). In line with contemporary trends for theoretical integration, this systematic review aims to evaluate the association between multidimensional motivational constructs and endocrine-related responses to determine which theories are commonly used and what inferences can be made. Forty-one studies were identified incorporating five distinct motivation theories and multiple endocrine-related responses. There was evidence across several theories that high-quality motivation attenuated the cortisol response in evaluative environments. There was also evidence that motivational needs for power and affiliation were associated with lower and higher levels of salivary immunoglobulin A, respectively. The need for power may play a role in increasing testosterone when winning a contest; however, this evidence was not conclusive. Overall, this review can shape the future integration of motivational theories by characterizing the nature of physiological responses to motivational processes and examining the implications for well-being.

Double kissing (DK) crush approach for patients with coronary bifurcation lesions, particularly localized at distal left main or lesions with increased complexity, is associated with significant reduction in clinical events when compared with provisional stenting. DKCRUSH VIII study is a prospective, multicenter, randomized controlled trial designed to assess superiority of IVUS-guided vs angiography-guided DK crush stenting in patients with complex bifurcation lesions according to DEFINITION criteria. A total of 556 patients with complex bifurcation lesions will be randomly (11 of ratio) assigned to IVUS-guided or angiography-guided D efficacy and safety between IVUS-guided and angiography-guided DK crush stenting in patients with complex true bifurcation lesions. This study will also provide IVUS-derived criteria to define optimal DK crush stenting for bifurcation lesions at higher complexity.
Mast cells (MCs) are key regulators of IgE-mediated allergic inflammation. Cell-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) contain bioactive compounds such as microRNAs. EVs can transfer signals to recipient cells, thus using a novel mechanism of cell-to-cell communication. However, whether **-derived EVs are involved in FcεRI-mediated allergic inflammation is unclear.
We sought to investigate the effect of EVs derived from FcεRI-aggregated human MCs on the function of human group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s).
Human cultured MCs were sensitized with and without IgE for 1 hour and then incubated with anti-IgE antibody, IL-33, or medium alone for 24 hours. EVs in the ** supernatant were isolated by using ExoQuick-TC.
Coculture of ILC2s with EVs derived from the FcεRI-aggregated MCs significantly enhanced IL-5 production and sustained upregulation of IL-5 mRNA expression in IL-33-stimulated ILC2s, but IL-13 production and IL-13 mRNA expression were unchanged. miR103a-3p expression was upregulated in IL-33-stimulated ILC2s that had been cocultured with EVs derived from anti-IgE antibody-stimulated MCs. Compared with the previous era (2010-2014), patients who received an LVAD in the most recent era (2015-2019) were more likely to be African American (26.8% vs 22.9%, P less then .0001) and more likely to be bridged to durable LVAD with temporary mechanical support devices (36.8% vs 26.0%, P less then .0001). In 2019, 50% of patients were INTERMACS Profile 1 or 2 before durable LVAD, and 73% received an LVAD as destination therapy. Magnetic levitation technology has become the predominant design, accounting for 77% of devices in 2019. The 1- and 2-year survival in the most recent era has improved compared with 2010 to 2014 (82.3% and 73.1% vs 80.5% and 69.1%, respectively; P less then .0001). Major bleeding and infection continue to be the leading adverse events. Incident stroke has declined in the current era to 12.7% at 1 year. STS-Intermacs research publications are highlighted, and the new quality initiatives are introduced.Here, we have studied the ameliorative effects of Withania somnifera derivatives (Withanolide A, Withanolide B, Withanoside IV, and Withanoside V) on the fibril formation of amyloid-β 42 for Alzheimer's disease. We analyzed reduction in the aggregation of β amyloid protein with these Ashwagandha derivatives by Thioflavin T assay in the oligomeric and fibrillar state. We have tested the cytotoxic activity of these compounds against human SK-N-SH cell line for 48 h, and the IC 50 value found to be 28.61 ± 2.91, 14.84 ± 1.45, 18.76 ± 0.76 and 30.14 ± 2.59 μM, respectively. After the treatment of the cells with half the concentration of IC 50 value, there was a remarkable decrease in the number of apoptotic cells stained by TUNEL assay indicating the DNA damage and also observed significant decrease of reactive oxygen species.
