Methods Databases including PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library were retrieved with the search terms of " triamcinolone acetonide, 5-fluorouracil, glucocorticoid, fluorouracil, keloid, scar, TAC, 5-FU, hypertrophic scar " and databases including Chinese Journal Full-Text Database, Chinese Biomedical Database, and Wanfang Data were retrieved with the search terms of ",, 5-,," in Chinese to obtain the publicly published randomized controlled trials about the effects of TA alone and in combination with 5-fluorouracil for treating keloids from the establishment of each database to august 2019. The outcome indexes included effective proportion of treatment, incidence proportion of adverse reactions, and recurrence proportion of keloids. RevMan 5.3 and Stata 14.0 statistical software were used to conduct a meta-analysis of eligible studies. Results A total of 1 326 patients with keloids were included in 14 studies, including 668 patients in TA+ 5-fluorouracil group whose keloids were injected with TA and 5-fluorouracil and 658 patients in TA alone group whose keloids were injected with TA alone. A total of 7 articles achieved 1 to 3 points in modified Jadad score, while 7 articles achieved 4 to 7 points in modified Jadad score. Patients in TA+ 5-fluorouracil group had a higher effective proportion of treatment than that of TA alone group (relative risk=1.28, 95% confidence interval=1.16-1.41, P0.05), while the effective proportion of treatment and recurrence proportion of keloids had publication bias (P less then 0.05). Congenital diarrheal disorders (CDDs) are a group of rare diseases among which some present as inherited disorders of intestinal electrolyte transportation congenital chloride diarrhea (CCD) and congenital sodium diarrhea (CSD) with prenatal manifestations, mainly polyhydramnios, leading to premature delivery. Affected neonates present with watery stools, sometimes mistaken as urine, leading to a misdiagnosis of Bartter syndrome. The aim of this study was to study the value of a prenatal biochemical pattern in the case of suspected CDD.
We retrospectively studied 12 amniotic fluids of CDD-affected fetuses prenatally suspected and confirmed after birth. Digestive enzymes, proteins, and electrolytes were assayed and showed abnormal biochemical patterns.

Pregnant women with painful conditions often have mental health problems, including depression and anxiety. Co-morbid conditions may cause pregnant women to use multiple medications, although safety of such practice is poorly understood.
We investigated the influence of combined prescriptions of opioid analgesics and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) during pregnancy on two adverse birth outcomes.
We analysed Swedish population-based births (n=688914) between 2007 and 2013. Using national registers, we obtained data on filled medication prescriptions, birth outcomes, and a wide range of parental characteristics. We estimated preterm birth and small-for-gestational-age risk following independent or combined prescriptions of the two medications compared with no filled prescriptions for either medication. We adjusted for confounders using inverse probability of treatment weights.
After adjusting for confounders, preterm birth risk was higher among women with opioid analgesic prescriptions oancies, those with either medication alone had a small increased risk for preterm birth but no increased risk for small for gestational age. The magnitude of associations with combined exposure to both medications were not greater than the sum of the associations with each medication considered individually.In the past 40 years, the prevalence of eating disorders (ED) in China has shown an increasing trend, leading to an urgent need to develop efficient treatment modes and methods. Since the beginning of the new century, the diagnosis, treatment, and research of ED in China have been under development. This article gives an introduction and commentary on the treatment modes, treatment methods and their applications in ED in China. There are two main treatment forms for ED until now, that is, inpatient treatment and outpatient treatment. Inpatient treatment is recommended as the first choice. Since 2008, clinical psychotherapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and family-based treatment (FBT), which are effective for pathological symptoms of ED, have been introduced into China and developed clinically. Group CBT and group DBT for patients with ED and group FBT for caregivers might be the most efficient psychotherapy in China nowadays. A multi-family FBT support group could be developed as the basic treatment of ED patients. Although these new types of psychotherapy have observed effectiveness in clinical application, the Randomized Controlled Trials (RCT) are rare and need to be developed.Recent social trends regarding sexual violence and gender have included elements of "hashtag activism," which involves using social media tools for cultural awareness and change. For example, the Twitter hashtag #WhyIDidntReport was created for survivors of sexual victimization to share their barriers to reporting. In this project, 600 tweets attached to this hashtag were analyzed using a combination of grounded theory and content analysis methods. Results were organized into a conceptual map, with a central category (power), connected to three other ecological categories (culture, community systems, and relationships) and one category of survivor experiences. Each category has subcategories which illustrate certain contextual and internal barriers to reporting assault. The model shows how these barriers intersect and interact, and often further traumatize those who have been assaulted. The model offers implications for professionals working with those who have survived sexual trauma, as well as those studying the dynamics of abuse.The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic continues to cause significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. This study aims to identify specific lab markers, complications, and treatments that may be associated with increased mortality in COVID-19 patients. This study is retrospective in nature; it included 217 COVID-19 positive patients who were admitted to a ProMedica Health System hospital in Northwest Ohio, United States, between March 25 and June 16, 2020. We collected various laboratory values, complications, and treatment courses. T test and χ2 analyses were used to predict mortality. COVID-19 test was confirmed via polymerase chain reaction. Of 217 patients included in the study, the mean age of the population was 63.13 (SD, 17.8), of which 194 (89.4%, mean age 61.7 years) survived while 23 (10.6%, mean age 74.6 years) died. Among them, 53% were females and 47% male. Laboratory values that were associated with mortality were low hemoglobin (p = .0046), elevated INR (p = .0005), low platelets (p = .

Test evaluation trials present different challenges for trial managers compared to intervention trials. There has been very little research on the management of test evaluation trials and how this impacts on trial success, in comparison with intervention trials. Evaluations of medical tests present specific challenges, because they are a pivot point bridging the complexities of pathways prompting testing with treatment decision-making. We systematically explored key differences in the trial design and management of test evaluation trials compared to intervention trials at the different stages of study design and delivery. We identified challenges in test evaluation trials that were more pronounced than in intervention trials, based on experience from 10 test evaluation trials.
We formed a focus group of 7 trial managers and a statistician who had been involved in the day-to-day management of both test evaluation trials and intervention trials. We used discussion and content analysis to group challenges frals. Proactive identification of potential challenges at the design and planning stages of test evaluation trials will enable strategies to improve trial design and management that may be different from standard strategies used for intervention trials. Future work could extend this topic to include challenges for other trial stakeholders including participants, clinicians, statisticians and funders.

Homicide is a widely acknowledged public health problem in the United States. The majority of homicides are committed with a firearm and have long-term health consequences for family members and entire communities. When left unsolved, violence may be perpetuated due to the retaliatory nature of homicides. Improving homicide clearance rates may help prevent future violence, however, we know little about the community-level social dynamics associated with unsolved homicides.
This study examines the individual-and-community-level social processes associated with low homicide clearance rates in Indianapolis, Indiana between 2007 and 2017. Homicide clearance is the primary outcome, defined as if a perpetrator was arrested for that homicide case between 2007 and 2017. Individual-level variables include the victim's race/ethnicity, sex, and age. Community-level (i.e., census tracts) variables include the number of resident complaints against the police, resident complains of community disorder, income inequalityse communities.
Our study identified differences in neighborhood social processes associated with homicide clearance, indicating existing measures on these community factors are complex. Programs aimed at improving signs of community disorder and building community engagement may improve neighborhood clearance rates, lower violence, and improve the health of these communities.
Diabetes foot self-care is one of the self-management behaviors of diabetic patients leading to a reduction in the incidence of pressure ulcers and amputation. Having a valid, reliable, simple and comprehensive tool is essential in measuring the self-care behavior of diabetic patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Farsi version of the diabetes foot self-care bahavior scale (DFSBS) in Iran.
In this cross-sectional and methodological study, 500 patients with type 2 diabetes were recruited by convenience sampling. Construct validity was assessed by exploratory factor analysis (over 300 patients) and confirmatory factor analysis (over 200 patients). Internal consistency was calculated by Cronbach's alpha coefficient and its stability was calculated by intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC).
In the exploratory factor analysis, two self-care factors related to feet and shoes were extracted which had specific values of 38.49 and 1.24, respectively, and were able to account for 56.
MSCs and EVs demonstrated equivalent immunosuppressive function in DSS-treated mice through decreased colonic lymphocyte infiltration and attenuated disease severity after both MSC and EV treatment. Furthermore, both MSCs and EVs have an equivalent ability to inhibit inflammation in the DSS colitis model by inhibiting JAK, JNK 1/2, and STAT3 signaling. Test evaluation trials present different challenges for trial managers compared to intervention trials. There has been very little research on the management of test evaluation trials and how this impacts on trial success, in comparison with intervention trials. Evaluations of medical tests present specific challenges, because they are a pivot point bridging the complexities of pathways prompting testing with treatment decision-making. We systematically explored key differences in the trial design and management of test evaluation trials compared to intervention trials at the different stages of study design and delivery. We identified challenges in test evaluation trials that were more pronounced than in intervention trials, based on experience from 10 test evaluation trials. We formed a focus group of 7 trial managers and a statistician who had been involved in the day-to-day management of both test evaluation trials and intervention trials. We used discussion and content analysis to group challenges frals. Proactive identification of potential challenges at the design and planning stages of test evaluation trials will enable strategies to improve trial design and management that may be different from standard strategies used for intervention trials. Future work could extend this topic to include challenges for other trial stakeholders including participants, clinicians, statisticians and funders. Reinforcement learning has recently been studied in various fields and also used to optimally control IoT devices supporting the expansion of Internet connection beyond the usual standard devices. In this paper, we try to allow multiple reinforcement learning agents to learn optimal control policy on their own IoT devices of the same type but with slightly different dynamics. For such multiple IoT devices, there is no guarantee that an agent who interacts only with one IoT device and learns the optimal control policy will also control another IoT device well. Therefore, we may need to apply independent reinforcement learning to each IoT device individually, which requires a costly or time-consuming effort. To solve this problem, we propose a new federated reinforcement learning architecture where each agent working on its independent IoT device shares their learning experience (i.e., the gradient of loss function) with each other, and transfers a mature policy model parameters into other agents. They accelerate its learning process by using mature parameters. Microagglutination tests (MAT) and blood and urine TaqMan real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) were performed. Leptospira antibodies were detected in 10/244 cats; with 4.1% positive results (95% confidence interval (CI) 2.1-7.18%). Titers ranged from 120 to 1320 (serovars Ballum; Bataviae; Bratislava; Cynopteri; Grippotyphosa Mandemakers; Grippotyphosa Moskva; Pomona; and Proechimys). The most common serovar was Cynopteri. Blood samples from 1/89 cats amplified for Leptospira DNA (1.12%; 95% CI 0.05-5.41%). Urine samples from 4/232 cats amplified for Leptospira DNA (1.72%; 95% CI 0.55-4.10%). In conclusion free-roaming cats in Spain can shed pathogenic Leptospira DNA in their urine and may be a source of human infection. Serovars not previously described in cats in Spain were detected; suggesting the presence of at least 4 different species of pathogenic leptospires in the country (L. borgpetersenii; L. interrogans; L. kirschneri; and L. noguchii).Schizophrenia is a neurodevelopmental disorder featuring chronic, complex neuropsychiatric features. Oxidative, nitrosative, or sulfuric damage to enzymes of glycolysis and tricarboxylic acid cycle, as well as calcium transport and ATP biosynthesis might cause impaired bioenergetics function in the brain. This could explain the initial symptoms, such as the first psychotic episode and mild cognitive impairment. Another concept of the etiopathogenesis of schizophrenia is associated with impaired glucose metabolism and insulin resistance with the activation of the mTOR mitochondrial pathway, which may contribute to impaired neuronal development. Consequently, cognitive processes requiring ATP are compromised and dysfunctions in synaptic transmission lead to neuronal death, preceding changes in key brain areas. This review summarizes the role and mutual interactions of oxidative damage and impaired glucose metabolism as key factors affecting metabolic complications in schizophrenia. However, those datasets are simple as they only contain one subject in the scene at the same time. This fact limits the extrapolation of the results to real world conditions where, usually, multiple subjects are simultaneously present at the scene, generating different types of occlusions and requiring better tracking methods and models trained to deal with those situations. Thus, with the aim of evaluating more realistic and challenging situations appearing in scenarios with multiple subjects, we release a new framework (MuPeG) that generates augmented datasets with multiple subjects using existing datasets as input. By this way, it is not necessary to record and label new videos, since it is automatically done by our framework. In addition, based on the use of datasets generated by our framework, we propose an experimental methodology that describes how to use datasets with multiple subjects and the recommended experiments that are necessary to perform. Moreover, we release the first experimental results using datasets with multiple subjects. In our case, we use an augmented version of TUM-GAID and CASIA-B datasets obtained with our framework. In these augmented datasets the obtained accuracies are 54 . 8 % and 42 . 3 % whereas in the original datasets (single subject), the same model achieved 99 . 7 % and 98 . 0 % for TUM-GAID and CASIA-B, respectively. The performance drop shows clearly that the difficulty of datasets with multiple subjects in the scene is **** higher than the ones reported in the literature for a single subject. Thus, our proposed framework is able to generate useful datasets with multiple subjects which are more similar to real life situations.

None of the included studies reported maternal death. CONCLUSION For clinical practice, intravenous injection oxytocin 10 IU may be a good, safe option in the management of the third stage of labor. Medical conditions, available resources, adverse effects, and women' s preferences should also be considered. If an IV line is already in place at delivery, IV administration may be preferable to IM injection.Massa intermedia (MI) is an inconsistent midline structure in the human brain that is absent in approximately 30% of the population. Absence of MI is seen more frequently in schizophrenia spectrum disorder and bipolar disorder. However, very little is known about the normal role of MI in the human brain. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of human MI in cortical and subcortical cognitive processing as determined by differences between subjects with and without MI. Using the Human Connectome Project database, a cohort of randomly selected participants were selected to (1) identify presence, absence, and size of MI, and (2) explore possible cognitive process mediated by the presence of MI. Four hundred and two brains were included (216 females) in the final analysis. Four independent blind raters identified 360 brains with MI (202 females) and 42 without MI using anatomical T1-weighted MR scans. Presence of MI was significantly more prevalent in female participant (p = 0.005) and they had significantly larger size of MI (p = 0.001 and 0.000 for anteroposterior and craniocaudal dimensions, respectively). There were no statistically significant differences in the presence of MI with regards to age, race and ethnicity. Further analysis revealed gender, flanker test, and loneliness as predictor of the presence of MI in a Firth logistic regression model (p = 0.0004). This is the largest study of human MI to date. Hcy can induce proliferation, migration, and phenotypic switch of VSMCs, but details of these mechanisms are still unclear. The phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K/Akt/mTOR) signaling pathway is involved in a host of cellular functions. Inhibition of the PI3K signaling pathway also prevented Hcy-induced VSMC proliferation, migration, and phenotypic switch. In vitro drug screening is part of the quest for a cure in ZSD by restoring PB in ZSD cell models. In vitro PB evaluation is commonly achieved by immunofluorescent staining or transient peroxisome fluorescent reporter expression. Both techniques have several drawbacks (cost, time-consuming technique, etc.) which we overcame by developing a third-generation lentiviral transfer plasmid expressing an enhanced green fluorescent protein fused to PTS1 (eGFP-PTS1). By eGFP-PTS1 lentiviral transduction, we quantified PB and peroxisome motility in ZSD and control mouse and human fibroblasts. Absence of MI is seen more frequently in schizophrenia spectrum disorder and bipolar disorder. However, very little is known about the normal role of MI in the human brain. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of human MI in cortical and subcortical cognitive processing as determined by differences between subjects with and without MI. Using the Human Connectome Project database, a cohort of randomly selected participants were selected to (1) identify presence, absence, and size of MI, and (2) explore possible cognitive process mediated by the presence of MI. Four hundred and two brains were included (216 females) in the final analysis. Four independent blind raters identified 360 brains with MI (202 females) and 42 without MI using anatomical T1-weighted MR scans. Presence of MI was significantly more prevalent in female participant (p = 0.005) and they had significantly larger size of MI (p = 0.001 and 0.000 for anteroposterior and craniocaudal dimensions, respectively). There were no statistically significant differences in the presence of MI with regards to age, race and ethnicity. Further analysis revealed gender, flanker test, and loneliness as predictor of the presence of MI in a Firth logistic regression model (p = 0.0004). This is the largest study of human MI to date. MI may contribute to interhemispheric cortical and subcortical connectivity with resulting subtle neuropsychological differences among individuals with a present versus absent MI.Candida species, including C. albicans in particular, can cause superficial or invasive disease, often in patients with known acquired immunodeficiencies or iatrogenic conditions. This hybrid approach achieved a closure rate of 100% on a benchmark set of 195 loops in 29 proteins that range from 3 to 31 residues. More importantly, the use of templates allows Hash/RCD to maintain the accuracy of state-of-the-art coordinate descent methods while reducing sampling time from over 400 to 141 ms. These results highlight how the integration of coordinate descent with knowledge-based sampling overcomes barriers inherent to either approach in isolation. This method may facilitate the identification of native-like loop conformations using experimental data or full-atom scoring functions by allowing rapid sampling of large numbers of loops. To evaluate the early clinical outcomes of ultrasound (US)-guided suprascapular nerve block (SSNB) using a proximal approach compared with a distal approach for outpatient treatment of adhesive capsulitis.

All patients completed clinical follow-up at 2, 6, and 12 weeks after treatment. On US images, depth and insertion angle of needle during injection were measured.

The current computational integrative approach may complement high-throughput screening and the shortlisted small molecule may contribute to selective targeting of NSP15 to stop the replication of SARS-CoV2.The pharmacology of cannabidiol, the non-psychoactive major component of Cannabis sativa, is of growing interest as it becomes more widely prescribed. This study aimed to examine the effects of cannabidiol on a wide range of contractile agents in rat small resistance arteries, in comparison with large arteries, and to explore its mechanism of action. The vascular actions of cannabidiol were also contrasted with effects on the contractions of bronchial, urogenital, cardiac and skeletal muscles. Isolated small or large arteries were incubated with cannabidiol (0.3-3 μM) or vehicle and concentration-contraction response curves were completed to various agents, including endothelin-1, arginine vasopressin, methoxamine, 5-HT, α-methyl 5-HT and U46619. In small arteries, the effects of cannabidiol were tested in the presence of antagonists of CB1 or CB2 receptors, calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), nitric oxide synthase, cyclooxygenase, PPARγ or a combination. The role of L-type voltage-operated calcium channels was also assessed. Cannabidiol 1-3 μM significantly inhibited the contraction of small resistance arteries to all tested agents through a combination of mechanisms that include CGRP and L-type calcium channels. However, large arteries were insensitive to cannabidiol. Cannabidiol (10-100 μM) was largely without effect in bronchi, atria and hemidiaphragm, but 100 μM attenuated maximum contractions in vasa deferentia. Cannabidiol's effects in the clinical range (1-3 μM) appear to be specific to small resistance arteries. This high sensitivity of the resistance arterial circulation to cannabidiol may offer a therapeutic opportunity in peripheral vascular disease that excludes off-target sites such as the heart and non-vascular smooth muscle.

The current computational integrative approach may complement high-throughput screening and the shortlisted small molecule may contribute to selective targeting of NSP15 to stop the replication of SARS-CoV2.The pharmacology of cannabidiol, the non-psychoactive major component of Cannabis sativa, is of growing interest as it becomes more widely prescribed. This study aimed to examine the effects of cannabidiol on a wide range of contractile agents in rat small resistance arteries, in comparison with large arteries, and to explore its mechanism of action. The vascular actions of cannabidiol were also contrasted with effects on the contractions of bronchial, urogenital, cardiac and skeletal muscles. Isolated small or large arteries were incubated with cannabidiol (0.3-3 μM) or vehicle and concentration-contraction response curves were completed to various agents, including endothelin-1, arginine vasopressin, methoxamine, 5-HT, α-methyl 5-HT and U46619. In small arteries, the effects of cannabidiol were tested in the presence of antagonists of CB1 or CB2 receptors, calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), nitric oxide synthase, cyclooxygenase, PPARγ or a combination. The role of L-type voltage-operated calcium channels was also assessed. Cannabidiol 1-3 μM significantly inhibited the contraction of small resistance arteries to all tested agents through a combination of mechanisms that include CGRP and L-type calcium channels. However, large arteries were insensitive to cannabidiol. Cannabidiol (10-100 μM) was largely without effect in bronchi, atria and hemidiaphragm, but 100 μM attenuated maximum contractions in vasa deferentia. Cannabidiol's effects in the clinical range (1-3 μM) appear to be specific to small resistance arteries. Thermodynamic analysis showed that the RG-CLA binding process occurred spontaneously and hydrogen bonds were the primary driving force. Moreover, only one binding site was calculated between RG and CLA by the intrinsic fluorescence data. The surface hydrophobicity of RG was reduced with increasing CLA. Circular dichroism and synchronous fluorescence spectroscopy showed conformational and microenvironmental changes around the chromophores of RG. The α-helical content increased and β-sheet content declined after the binding reaction. The computational docking program displayed the target site in which CLA and amino acid residues of RG might be linked together. Results showed that LWE exhibited higher particle size after heating, with coincidental increases in surface hydrophobicity and decreases in protein solubility. While LWE with NaCl added exhibited increase in protein solubility and decrease in particle size of aggregates. Electrophoresis and optical microscopy showed that NaCl would induce the transformation of egg granules from insoluble form to soluble form, inhibiting the aggregation of LWE proteins during preheat treatment, reflected by the reduced particle size. The analysis of gel aggregated force and texture indicated that NaCl addition and preheat treatment can improve gelling properties of LWE synergistically by strengthening the hydrophobic interaction and hydrogen bonds. © Association of Food Scientists & Technologists (India) 2019.

The results of this review show that critically ill patients, endovascular and/or non-eradicable source of infection, isolation of a multi-drug resistant pathogen, end-stage renal disease, and immunodeficiencies are some factors that may predispose patients to persistent Gram negative bacteremia. In this work, a bioinformatics approach was used to discover six bacterial mART sequences, one of which was a functional mART toxin encoded by the plant pathogen, Erwinia amylovora, called Vorin. Using a yeast growth-deficiency assay, we show that wild-type Vorin inhibited yeast cell growth, while catalytic variants reversed the growth-defective phenotype. Quantitative mass spectrometry analysis revealed that Vorin may cause eukaryotic host cell death by suppressing the initiation of autophagic processes. The genomic neighbourhood of Vorin indicated that it is a Type-VI-secreted effector, and co-expression experiments showed that Vorin is neutralized by binding of a cognate immunity protein, VorinI. We demonstrate that Vorin may also act as an antibacterial effector, since bacterial expression of Vorin was not achieved in the absence of VorinI. Ultimately these results, provided here in the context of PDEs in mathematical finance may be applied to PDEs arising in a variety of different fields and inform new methods of solution.This article elucidates the magnetohydrodynamic 3D Maxwell nanofluid flow with heat absorption/generation effects. The impact of the nonlinear thermal radiation with a chemical reaction is also an added feature of the presented model. The phenomenon of flow is supported by thermal and concentration stratified boundary conditions. The boundary layer set of non-linear PDEs (partial differential equation) are converted into ODEs (ordinary differential equation) with high nonlinearity via suitable transformations. The homotopy analysis technique is engaged to regulate the mathematical analysis. The obtained results for concentration, temperature and velocity profiles are analyzed graphically for various admissible parameters. A comparative statement with an already published article in limiting case is also added to corroborate our presented model. An excellent harmony in this regard is obtained. The impact of the Nusselt number for distinct parameters is also explored and discussed. It is found that the impacts of Brownian motion on the concentration and temperature distributions are opposite. It is also comprehended that the thermally stratified parameter decreases the fluid temperature.We propose an image encryption scheme based on quasi-resonant Rossby/drift wave triads (related to elliptic surfaces) and Mordell elliptic curves (****). Aiming at solving the problem, this paper employs a general multilayer network model to represent the multiple social networks, and then proposes the node influence indicator merely based on the local neighboring information. Extensive experiments on 21 real-world datasets are conducted to verify the performance of the proposed method, which shows superiority to the competitors. The impact of the nonlinear thermal radiation with a chemical reaction is also an added feature of the presented model. The phenomenon of flow is supported by thermal and concentration stratified boundary conditions. The boundary layer set of non-linear PDEs (partial differential equation) are converted into ODEs (ordinary differential equation) with high nonlinearity via suitable transformations. The homotopy analysis technique is engaged to regulate the mathematical analysis. The obtained results for concentration, temperature and velocity profiles are analyzed graphically for various admissible parameters. A comparative statement with an already published article in limiting case is also added to corroborate our presented model. An excellent harmony in this regard is obtained. The impact of the Nusselt number for distinct parameters is also explored and discussed. It is found that the impacts of Brownian motion on the concentration and temperature distributions are opposite. Freezing of gait (FoG) in Parkinson's disease (PD) has been associated with response inhibition. However, the relationship between response inhibition, neural dysfunction, and PD remains unclear. We assessed response inhibition and microstructural integrity of brain regions involved in response inhibition [right hemisphere inferior frontal cortex (IFC), bilateral pre-supplementary motor areas (preSMA), and subthalamic nuclei (STN)] in PD subjects with and without FoG and elderly controls.
Twenty-one people with PD and FoG (PD-FoG), 18 without FoG (PD-noFoG), and 19 age-matched controls (HC) completed a Stop-Signal Task (SST) and MRI scan. Probabilistic fiber tractography assessed structural integrity (fractional anisotropy, FA) among IFC, preSMA, and STN regions.
Stop-signal performance did not differ between PD and HC, nor between PD-FoG and PD-noFoG. Differences in white matter integrity were observed across groups (.001 < p < .064), but were restricted to PD versus HC groups; no differences in pecific neural changes may occur outside the response inhibition network. The negative association between stress and cognition may be mediated by depressive symptoms, which separate studies have identified as both a consequence of perceived stress and a risk factor for cognitive decline. Pathways linking perceived stress, depressive symptoms, and cognition may be moderated by sociodemographics and psychosocial resources. The goal of this cross-sectional study was to identify modifying factors and enhance understanding of the mechanisms underlying the stress-cognition association in a racially and ethnically diverse sample of older adults.
A linear regression estimated the association between perceived stress and episodic memory in 578 older adults (Mage = 74.58) in the Washington Heights-Inwood Columbia Aging Project. Subsequent models tested whether depressive symptoms mediated the stress-memory relationship and whether sociodemographics (gender, race, and ethnicity) or perceived control moderated these pathways.
Independent of sociodemographics and chronic diseases, greater perceived stress was associated with worse episodic memory. This relationship was mediated by more depressive symptoms.
