This study aimed to identify the prevalence and risk factors of tuberculosis and latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) among refugee children in Malaysia. Methods A cross-sectional study was performed in three refugee schools in the Klang Valley, Malaysia, using tuberculin skin tests or interferon-γ release assays. Participants who tested positive were sent for further examination with chest radiography to confirm the tuberculosis diagnosis. Results From April 2018 to April 2019, we screened 430 refugee children with a median age of 13.0 years. Most of the children were born in Myanmar (n=274, 63.7%) and Pakistan (n=60, 14.0%). No children were diagnosed with active tuberculosis but 55 of the children (12.8%) were diagnosed with LTBI. Children with LTBI were generally older (OR 3.01, 95% CI 1.71-5.29; p less then 0.001) than those without LTBI infection. Sex, history of bacille Calmette-**érin vaccination and country of birth were not associated with increased risk of LTBI. In this study, we assessed whether the 6GS would perform similarly in induced sputum sampled using a simplified method, by which induced sputum can be sampled and stored directly for later qPCR analyses, to the conventional method of manual plug selection. Two separate sputum samples were collected from 27 patients with asthma; one processed as a whole sample in an Oragene-RNA RE 100 vial and one processed using manual plug selection. Expression of 6GS was measured in both samples, of which 20 pairs (74%) had enough samples and results of sufficient quality of gene expression for further analyses. We found a significantly higher median RNA concentration in whole sampled sputum and consistently stronger gene expression compared to the plug method. Further, we found the two methods to agree, as 97% of observations were within the limits of agreement, as well as having a good-to-excellent reliability using intraclass correlation. Finally, we found 6GS in the whole sampled sputum to perform equal to or better than the manually selected plugs for discriminating inflammatory phenotypes defined by sputum differential count. MATERIALS AND METHODS This cross-sectional study adopted a quantitative approach and used an online questionnaire to collect data. Nine hundred and five participants were recruited as per the inclusion criteria (above 18 years of age, know how to read and write, and technology literate). The collected data were analyzed statistically using IBM Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software. RESULTS A low level of knowledge about teeth replacement methods (56%) was recorded among the participant, while 44.4% of them had heard about implant, bridges, and dentures. The oral hygiene of the participants was considered good (59.3%). The main source of information, reported by the participants, was the dentist (53.4%). The knowledge about dental implants was found to be significantly the highest (P = 0.02) among the highly educated participant who had completed postgraduate studies. CONCLUSION There is a need for introducing comprehensive orientation programs, conducted by dentists, to communicate knowledge about dental implants. The social campaigns and official information programs should be instigated for improving the knowledge of the patients. Structured programs should be also introduced at an academic level, for enhancing the knowledge related to replacing missing teeth and dental implants.   • Tumor cell populations are highly heterogeneous, which limit the homogeneous distribution and optimal delivery of nanomedicines, thereby inducing insufficient therapeutic benefits. We develop tumor microenvironment activatable and external stimuli-responsive drug delivery system (TAT+AzoNPs), which can improve photodynamic therapy (PDT) induced bioreductive chemotherapy in different tumor cells both proximal and distal to vessels. The TAT peptide on the surface of TAT+AzoNPs can both facilitate the cell uptake and the penetration of TAT+AzoNPs, owing to its responsiveness to tumor stimuli pH. TAT+AzoNPs can keep the cargoes (photosensitizer chlorine e6 (Ce6) and hypoxia activatable prodrug tirapazamine (TPZ)) and highly accumulate within tumor cells proximity and distal to vessels. The Azo-benzene bonds as the linkers between amphiphilic polymers remain stable under normoxia, but quite break at hypoxic conditions. The pot and field experiments were conducted with two fragrant rice cultivars i.e., Xiangyaxiangzhan and Yuxiangyouzhan, grown under three Se levels i.e., 0, 120, and 240 mg kg-1 of soil (for pot experiment) and 0, 300, and 600 kg ha-1 (for field experiment) regarded as LSe, MSe and HSe, respectively and two Si levels i.e., 0 and 60 mg kg-1 of soil (for pot experiment) and 0 and 150 kg ha-1 (for field experiment) regarded as -Si and +Si, respectively. Results depicted that the Se-Si treatments regulated head rice yield, grain yield and yield related traits and the HSe+Si treatment sustainably improved the grain yield and head rice yield by regulating plant growth, antioxidant response and malondialdehyde (MDA) contents in fragrant rice. The Se-Si treatments also improved the grain 2AP contents owing to regulation in the proline, pyrroline-5-carboxylate (P5C) and γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) contents. Atmospheric monitoring data of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) over a three-year period were collected from an urban site in Dalian, northeast China. The status of PAHs in the atmosphere in Dalian were evaluated by assessing concentration levels, congener profiles, seasonal trends, primary source, inhalation exposure and the risk of developing lung cancer risk. Average concentrations were recorded for 53 PAHs (95 ± 40 ng/m3), 16 EPA priority PAHs (68 ± 33 ng/m3), 26 alkylated PAHs (17 ± 7.6 ng/m3) and 4 high-molecular-weight (302 Da) PAHs (1.3 ± 1.3 ng/m3). Atmospheric PAH concentrations in winter were almost twice as high as those recorded in the summer, possibly due to enhanced local emissions and long-range transport of atmospheric PAHs during the winter. INTRODUCTION This paper represents a first attempt to fill a gap in research about different specific climates and safety outcomes, by empirically identifying patterns of climates and exploring the possible effect of different climates at the department level on some specific safety outcomes. The first objective was to explore how different specific climates (safety, communication, diversity and inclusion) can be associated to each other, considering the department level of analysis. The second objective was to examine the relationships between those patterns of climates with safety performance (compliance and participation behaviors). METHOD A total of 429 blue-collar workers in 35 departments answered a questionnaire covering safety, diversity, inclusion, and communication climate measures. Cluster analysis was performed to identify clusters of departments with different climate patterns and their impact on safety compliance and safety participation behaviors. Subsequently, a hierarchical multiple linear rertant role in safety, showing the importance of broadening the focus on safety climate as one of the main predictors of safety behaviors. INTRODUCTION This paper represents a first attempt to fill a gap in research about different specific climates and safety outcomes, by empirically identifying patterns of climates and exploring the possible effect of different climates at the department level on some specific safety outcomes. The first objective was to explore how different specific climates (safety, communication, diversity and inclusion) can be associated to each other, considering the department level of analysis. The second objective was to examine the relationships between those patterns of climates with safety performance (compliance and participation behaviors). METHOD A total of 429 blue-collar workers in 35 departments answered a questionnaire covering safety, diversity, inclusion, and communication climate measures. Cluster analysis was performed to identify clusters of departments with different climate patterns and their impact on safety compliance and safety participation behaviors. Subsequently, a hierarchical multiple linear rertant role in safety, showing the importance of broadening the focus on safety climate as one of the main predictors of safety behaviors.   • Ebola virus disease outbreaks have repeatedly occurred on the African continent over the last decades, with more serious outbreaks in recent years. Being highly transmissible and associated to high fatality rates, it constitutes a serious threat to public health. Vaccination, however, may allow for efficient control of its propagation. CRISPR Cas9 system is becoming an emerging genome-editing platform and has been widely used for multiplex genome engineering of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. In this study, we developed a novel replicative and integrative CRISPR Cas9 genome-editing platform for large DNA construct in vivo assembly, replication, and high-copy genome integration in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. It harnessed advantages of autonomous replicative sequence in S. cerevisiae, in vivo DNA assembly, CRISPR Cas9, and delta integration. Enhanced green fluorescent protein was used as a marker to confirm large DNA construct in vivo assembly and genome integration. Based on this platform, an efficient 2,3- BDO producing yeast strain was rapidly constructed with up to 25-copy genome integration of 2,3-BDO biosynthesis pathway. Further strain engineering was conducted by multiplex disruption of ADH1, PDC1, PDC5 and MTH1 using a 2μ-based replicative CRISPR Cas9 plasmid containing donor DNAs. As a result, the 2,3-BDO titer was improved by 3.9 folds compared to that obtained by the initially engineered yeast and 50.5 g/L 2,3-BDO was produced by the final engineered yeast strain 36aS5-CFBDO in fed-batch fermentation without strain evolution and process optimization. This study demonstrated that the new replicative and integrative CRISPR Cas9 genome-editing platform was promising in generating an efficient 2,3-BDO-producing S. cerevisiae strain. And parameters of tDCS on the visual cortex are not well optimized yet. Therefore, this study explored the effect of anodal occipital tDCS in eyes-open resting state to disclose possible modulation to spontaneous brain activity by electroencephalography (EEG). Fifteen healthy subjects were involved in this study. Each subject endured sham and anodal tDCS in turn. 2 mA tDCS was applied over 21 min with Oz-Cz montage. Amplitudes of spontaneous brain activities were evaluated for each experimental condition. Compared with pre-stimulation and sham tDCS, anodal tDCS caused an obvious increment in parieto-occipital alpha activity. Four different formulations of liposomes with fluconazole (L-F), with C12AHL (L-H), with fluconazole and C12AHL (L-HF), and a drug-free control (L-C) were prepared using a thin-film hydration followed by extrusion method, and characterised. The effect of liposomes on colonising (90 min-24 h) and preformed (24 h) C. albicans biofilms were assessed using a standard biofilm assay.   • Observations of microplastic particles (MPs) in the environment and their detection in the stomachs and intestines of aquatic organisms have been observed routinely over the last 50 years. In this review, the ingestion of plastic debris of varying sizes is collated, including data for >800 species representing approximately 87,000 individual organisms, for which plastic debris and MPs are observed in about 17,500 or 20%. The average of reported MP/individual across all studies is estimated at 4, with studies typically reporting averages ranging between 0 and 10 MP/individual. A general observation is that while strong evidence exists for the biological ingestion of MPs, they do not bioaccumulate and do not appear to be subject to biomagnification as a result of trophic transfer through food webs, with >99% of observations from field-based studies reporting MPs to be located within the gastrointestinal tract. Overall, there is substantial heterogeneity in how samples are collected, processed, analyzed, and reported, causing significant challenges in attempting to assess temporal and spatial trends or in helping to inform mechanistic understanding. Nevertheless, several studies suggest that the characteristics of MPs ingested by organisms is generally representative of plastic debris in the vicinity of where individuals are collected. Monitoring spatial and temporal trends of ingested MPs could thus potentially be useful in assessing mitigation efforts aimed at reducing the emission of plastic and MPs to the environment. More precisely, organoids have been derived from ductal tissue located outside (Extrahepatic Bile Ducts or EHBDs) or inside the liver (Intrahepatic bile ducts or IHBDs). These organoids share many characteristics including the expression of cholangiocyte markers such as KRT19. However, the relationship between these organoids and their tissues of origin, and to each other, is largely unknown. METHODS/RESULTS Organoids were derived from human gallbladder, common bile duct, pancreatic duct and intrahepatic bile ducts using culture conditions promoting WNT signaling. The resulting IHBD and EHBD organoids expressed stem/progenitor markers LGR5/PROM1 and ductal markers KRT19/KRT7. However, RNA-sequencing revealed that organoids conserve only a limited number of regional-specific markers corresponding to their location of origin. Of particular interest, downregulation of biliary markers and upregulation of cell cycle genes was observed in organoids. IHBD and EHBD organoids diverged in their response to WNT signaling and only IHBD were able to express a low-level of hepatocyte markers under differentiation conditions. CONCLUSIONS Taken together, our results demonstrate that differences exist not only between extrahepatic biliary organoids and their tissue of origin but also between IHBD and EHBD organoids. We prospectively evaluated the associations between plant-based and animal-based LCDs and risk of HCC in the Nurses' Health Study (NHS) and the Health Professionals Follow-up Study (HPFS). Dietary intake was assessed every 4 years using validated food frequency questionnaires. Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to calculate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). HRs are shown for a 1-standard deviation (SD) increment with variable modelled as continuous. During 3,664,769 person years of follow-up, there were 156 incident HCC cases. Although there were no associations between overall or animal-based LCD score and risk of HCC, plant-based LCD score was inversely associated with HCC risk (HR 0.83; 95% CI 0.70-0.98; Ptrend =0.03). Carbohydrate intake, especially from refined grains (HR 1.18; 95% CI 1.00-1.39; Ptrend =0.04) was positively, while plant fat (HR 0.78; 95% CI 0.65-0.95; Ptrend =0.01) was inversely associated with HCC risk. Substituting 5% of energy from plant fat and protein for carbohydrate (HR 0.74; 95% CI 0.58-0.93; Ptrend =0.01) or refined grains (HR 0.70; 95% CI 0.55-0.90; Ptrend =0.006) was associated with lower HCC risk. In conclusion, a plant-based LCD and dietary restriction of carbohydrate from refined grains were associated with a lower risk of HCC. Substituting plant fat and protein for carbohydrate, particularly refined grains, may decrease HCC incidence. Our findings support a potential benefit in emphasizing plant sources of fat and protein in the diet for HCC primary prevention. Therefore, the present study aimed to detect LINC00520 expression in CRC and evaluate its clinical significance in patients with CRC. Functional experiments were conducted to test the biological roles and underlying mechanisms of LINC00520 in CRC progression. In this study, high-LINC00520 expression was verified in CRC tissues and cell lines, and this high expression was associated with patients' unfavorable clinicopathological parameters and shorter overall survival and disease-free survival. Functionally, interference of LINC00520 resulted in a significant decrease of CRC cell proliferation, migration, colony forming ability, and invasion. Mechanistically, LINC00520 functioned as a competing endogenous RNA by sponging microRNA-577 (miR-577) and thereby increasing heat shock protein 27 (HSP27) expression. Rescue experiments revealed that inhibiting miR-577 or restoring HSP27 could abrogate the effects of LINC00520 silencing on malignant phenotypes of CRC. Blood samples were collected from the left and right cardiac chambers and iliac veins, and serum triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), thyroglobulin (Tg), and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels were measured using electrochemiluminescence immunoassays. Two types of thyroid cell lines were used to confirm independent thyroid function under the condition of hypoxia (3% O2). The human thyroid carcinoma cell line (HOTHC) cell line derived from human anaplastic thyroid carcinoma and the UD-PTC (sample of the second resection papillary thyroid carcinoma) cell line derived from human thyroid papillary adenoma, which forms Tg retention follicles, were used to examine the secretion levels of T3, T4, and Tg hormones. The results showed a strong correlation between T3 and T4 levels in all blood sampling sites, while the TSH and Tg levels were not correlated with the other markers. Functional experiments were conducted to test the biological roles and underlying mechanisms of LINC00520 in CRC progression. In this study, high-LINC00520 expression was verified in CRC tissues and cell lines, and this high expression was associated with patients' unfavorable clinicopathological parameters and shorter overall survival and disease-free survival. Functionally, interference of LINC00520 resulted in a significant decrease of CRC cell proliferation, migration, colony forming ability, and invasion. Mechanistically, LINC00520 functioned as a competing endogenous RNA by sponging microRNA-577 (miR-577) and thereby increasing heat shock protein 27 (HSP27) expression. Rescue experiments revealed that inhibiting miR-577 or restoring HSP27 could abrogate the effects of LINC00520 silencing on malignant phenotypes of CRC. Blood samples were collected from the left and right cardiac chambers and iliac veins, and serum triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), thyroglobulin (Tg), and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels were measured using electrochemiluminescence immunoassays. Two types of thyroid cell lines were used to confirm independent thyroid function under the condition of hypoxia (3% O2). The human thyroid carcinoma cell line (HOTHC) cell line derived from human anaplastic thyroid carcinoma and the UD-PTC (sample of the second resection papillary thyroid carcinoma) cell line derived from human thyroid papillary adenoma, which forms Tg retention follicles, were used to examine the secretion levels of T3, T4, and Tg hormones. The results showed a strong correlation between T3 and T4 levels in all blood sampling sites, while the TSH and Tg levels were not correlated with the other markers. Serum T3 and T4 levels were higher in cases of mechanical asphyxia and acute/subacute blunt head injury, representing hypoxic and ischemic conditions of the brain as compared to those in other causes of death. In the thyroid gland cell line, T4, T3, and Tg levels were stimulated after exposure to hypoxia for 10-30 min. We assessed AHs, trauma memory intrusions, avoidance, and hyperarousal at ten time points each day. Multi-level modelling showed that the severity of trauma memory intrusions (but not avoidance or hyperarousal) within the preceding hour was associated with the occurrence of AHs. This relationship was significantly stronger for people with a direct link between the content of their AHs and trauma history. In time-lagged analyses, main effects of trauma memory intrusions, avoidance, and hyperarousal on AHs were not significant. Trauma memory intrusions have momentary associations with AHs and this relationship is stronger and more enduring for those with a direct link between their AH and the trauma. Here, up to about 0.1 μg g-1 of Pb was adsorbed to the plastic and between about 60 and 70% of the metal was accessible. Lead present as additive or residue was determined by x-ray fluorescence analysis of a wider range of beached plastics (polyolefins and polyvinyl chloride), with a selection of positive samples grated to mm-dimensions and subjected to the PBET. Series of laboratory experiments have been conducted aiming at filling the knowledge gap regarding how cohesive clay particles influence the accumulation of petroleum through forming different aggregate structures and their resulting settling velocity. OMAs have been successfully created in a stirring jar with artificial sea-water, crude oil and two types of most common cohesive minerals, Kaolinite and Bentonite clay. With the magnetic stirrer adjusted to 490 rpm to provide a high level homogeneous flow turbulence (Turbulence dissipation ε estimated to be about 0.02 m2⋅s-3), droplet OMAs and flake/solid OMAs were obtained in oil-Kaolinite sample and oil-Bentonite sample, respectively. Kaolinite clay with relatively low flocculation rate (Rf = 0.13 min-1) tends to physically attach around the surface of oil droplets. With the lower density of oil, these oil-Kaolinite droplet OMAs generally show lower settling velocity comparing to pure mineral Kaolinite flocs. Differently, Bentonite clay with higher flocculation rate (Rf = 0.66 min-1) produces more porous flocs that can absorb or be absorbed by the oil and form compact flake/solid OMAs with higher density and settling velocity than pure Bentonite flocs. In the mixed Kaolinite-Bentonite sample (11 in weight), oil is observed to preferably interacting with Bentonite and increase settling velocity especially in larger floc size classes.

Such an approach likely fails to predict effects of microbial assemblages, as microbe-microbe interactions may affect in a non-additive manner microbial metabolism and resulting chemosensory cues. Here, we compared effects of microbial mono- and cocultures on growth of constituent microbes, volatile metabolite production, sugar catabolism, and effects on pollinator foraging across two nectar environments that differed in sugar concentration. Growth in co-culture decreased the abundance of the yeast Metschnikowia reukaufii, but not the bacterium Asaia astilbes. Volatile emissions differed significantly between microbial treatments and with nectar concentration, while sugar concentration was relatively similar among mono- and cocultures. Coculture volatile emission closely resembled an additive combination of monoculture volatiles. Despite differences in microbial growth and chemosensory cues, honey bee feeding did not differ between microbial monocultures and assemblages. Taken together, our results suggest that in some cases, chemical and ecological effects of microbial assemblages are largely predictable from those of component species, but caution that more work is necessary to predict under what circumstances non-additive effects are important.The original version of this article unfortunately contained an error.PURPOSE Day-case thyroid surgery has been endorsed by the American Thyroid Association and the British Association of Day Surgery. We describe the use of sensitivity analysis modelling and cost analysis in determining and refining the patient cohort that safely meet the threshold for a new day-case thyroid lobectomy service at a tertiary referral head and neck centre. METHODS All cases of first-time thyroid lobectomy were identified between 2015 and Q2 2019. Patients suitable for day-case thyroid lobectomy were identified retrospectively, according to the following criteria Age  less then  65 years, ASA grade  less then  3, BMI  less then  30 kg/m2 and distance from tertiary unit  less then  / = 30 min. Sensitivity analysis was undertaken, manipulating each parameter in turn to assess the effect on eligibility and associated cost-savings. RESULTS 259 Thyroid lobectomy procedures were performed, 173 of these met inclusion criteria. Sensitivity analysis revealed that after increasing all day-case parameters by four increments, eligibility increased from 47 (27%) to 112 patients (64.7%), with only one outpatient to inpatient conversion. A reliable assessment of pain intensity can be performed with the Children's and Infants' Postoperative Pain Scale (CHIPPS) in children  less then  5 years, or with the Faces Pain Scale-Revised (FPS-R) in children aged ≥ 5 years. The Parents' Postoperative Pain Measure (PPPM-D) may be a useful tool for both age groups. We hypothesized that not more than 30% of the children would need an opioid rescue medication during their in-hospital stay and analyzed the consistency of the PPPM-D with other pain scales. METHODS We included 158 in-patients aged 2-12 years. Ibuprofen was orally administered every 8 h. Three times daily, pain scores were assessed by CHIPPS or FPS-R, respectively. The PPPM-D was used in all children. Exceeding the cut-off value in one of the tools was regarded as relevant pain. RESULTS A rescue medication was needed in 82.1% of children after tonsillectomy and 51.3% of children after tonsillotomy (P  less then  0.001). The cut-off value for relevant pain was mostly exceeded in the PPPM-D, but its overall concordance to the reference scales was low. Research is needed to find an optimal schema for management and assessment of postoperative pain.PURPOSE In an effort to make olfactory training (OT) simpler, we designed an 'olfactory training ball' (OTB)-a baseball-size ball with four odor-containing tubes to use in OT. The study aimed to investigate the effects of OT with the OTB in comparison to classical OT with special attention to the effects of adherence to OT on olfactory outcome measures. METHODS Sixty patients with olfactory dysfunction following infections of the upper respiratory tract received OT either with classical methods-sniffing odors from jars (COT)-or the OTB for 12 weeks. Patients exposed themselves to the odors for 5 min twice daily. Adherence was measured with a modified version of the Morisky scale. Before and after OT, all patients underwent extensive olfactory testing using the Sniffin' Sticks test. RESULTS At the end of the 12 weeks of OT, TDI composite score (22.1 ± 2.8 vs. 19.9 ± 4.7, P = 0.044) and odor discrimination subtest scores (9.1 ± 1.8 vs.7.6 ± 2.5, P = 0.013) of the OTB group were significantly higher than that of the COT group.

The PPPM-D was used in all children. Exceeding the cut-off value in one of the tools was regarded as relevant pain. RESULTS A rescue medication was needed in 82.1% of children after tonsillectomy and 51.3% of children after tonsillotomy (P  less then  0.001). The cut-off value for relevant pain was mostly exceeded in the PPPM-D, but its overall concordance to the reference scales was low. CONCLUSION High-dose ibuprofen "around-the-clock" is insufficient to control pain in children after tonsil surgery. Research is needed to find an optimal schema for management and assessment of postoperative pain.PURPOSE In an effort to make olfactory training (OT) simpler, we designed an 'olfactory training ball' (OTB)-a baseball-size ball with four odor-containing tubes to use in OT. The study aimed to investigate the effects of OT with the OTB in comparison to classical OT with special attention to the effects of adherence to OT on olfactory outcome measures. METHODS Sixty patients with olfactory dysfunction following infections of the upper respiratory tract received OT either with classical methods-sniffing odors from jars (COT)-or the OTB for 12 weeks. Patients exposed themselves to the odors for 5 min twice daily. Adherence was measured with a modified version of the Morisky scale. Before and after OT, all patients underwent extensive olfactory testing using the Sniffin' Sticks test. RESULTS At the end of the 12 weeks of OT, TDI composite score (22.1 ± 2.8 vs. 19.9 ± 4.7, P = 0.044) and odor discrimination subtest scores (9.1 ± 1.8 vs.7.6 ± 2.5, P = 0.013) of the OTB group were significantly higher than that of the COT group.
