We included only incident cases (diagnosis of CS within 1 year of inclusion). We applied retrospectively the following diagnostic criteria the World Association of Sarcoidosis and Other Granulomatous Diseases (WASOG), the Heart Rhythm Society (HRS), and the Japanese Circulation Society (JCS) 2016 criteria. RESULTS We identified 69 patients. Diagnostic criteria classified patients as follows WASOG as highly probable (1.4%), probable (52.2%), possible (0%), some criteria (40.6%), and no criteria (5.8%); HRS as histological diagnosis (1.4%), probable (52.2%), some criteria (40.6%), and no criteria (5.8%); JCS as histological diagnosis (1.4%), clinical diagnosis (58%), some criteria (39.1%), and no criteria (1.4%). Concordance was high between WASOG and HRS (κ = 1) but low between JCS and the others (κ = 0.326). CONCLUSIONS A high proportion of patients clinically judged to have CS are unable to be classified according to the 3 main diagnostic criteria. There is low concordance between JCS criteria and the other 2 criteria (WASOG and HRS). Intrauterine infections with the pathogens, including toxoplasmosis, other (syphilis, varicella, mumps, parvovirus, and HIV), rubella, cytomegalovirus, and herpes simplex (TORCH) in susceptible individuals during pregnancy, result in microcephaly, white matter disease, cerebral atrophy, and calcifications in the fetus. The effects of micro-hole arrays in the thin metal films were studied as a method to release bending stress in flexible electrodes and flexible thin film transistors (TFTs). Interest in flexible electronics is increasing, and many approaches have been suggested to solve the issue of the electrical failure of electrodes or electrical components such as TFTs after repeated bending. Here, we demonstrate a micro-hole array structure as a common solution to release bending stress. Although micro-size cracks were generated and propagated from the hole edges, the cracks stopped within a certain range when enough stress was released. Moreover, since the crack sites were predictable and controllable, a fatal electrical breakdown in a conductive layer such as a metal electrode or the semiconducting junction of a TFT can be prevented by specifically arranging the hole arrays. Thin film layers fabricated without holes suffered an electrical breakdown due to random crack propagation during bending tests. Aluminum thin film electrodes prepared with arrays of 3 μm diameter holes and 25% hole area showed excellent durability after 300,000 bending cycles. The change in resistance was below 3%. The electrical characteristics of an a-IGZO TFT with the micro-hole structure were almost equivalent to a standard a-IGZO TFT. After 10,000 bending cycles, ION and the ratio of ION/IOFF remained >107 A and ∼107, respectively. Since the effective hole diameter is micrometer in size, fabrication does not require additional process steps or expensive process equipment. The performance of this BD-based digital detection platform has been tested for the quantitation of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) in spiked corn samples and validated with standard high-performance liquid chromatography measurements. The detection limit attained is as low as 0.27 ppb with a dynamic response range up to 200 ppb, which meets the standards established by government agencies worldwide for food products. This article reports a meta-synthesis of qualitative studies exploring the research question What do health practitioners perceive enhances their readiness to address domestic violence and abuse? Multiple data bases were searched in June 2018. Inclusion criteria included qualitative design; population of health practitioners in clinical settings; and a focus on intimate partner violence. Two reviewers independently screened articles and findings from included papers were synthesised according to the method of thematic synthesis. Forty-seven articles were included in the final sample, spanning 41 individual studies, four systematic reviews and two theses between the years of 1992 and 2018; mostly from high income countries. Five themes were identified as enhancing readiness of health practitioners to address DVA Having a commitment; Adopting an advocacy approach; Trusting the relationship; Collaborating with a team; and Being supported by the health system. Due to nonspecific clinical presentation during the early phase of dengue infection, differentiating DF from OFI has remained a challenge, and current methods to determine severity of dengue remain poor early predictors. We present a prospective clinical cohort study conducted in Caracas, Venezuela from 2001-2005, designed to determine whether clinical and hematological parameters could distinguish DF from OFI, and identify early prognostic biomarkers of SD. From 204 enrolled suspected dengue patients, there were 111 confirmed dengue cases. Piecewise mixed effects regression and nonparametric statistics were used to analyze longitudinal records. Decreased serum albumin and fibrinogen along with increased D-dimer, thrombin-antithrombin complex, activated partial thromboplastin time oteins. No association of severe outcome was statistically significant for any of the five major polymorphic sites found. This study offers an improved understanding of dengue hemostasis and a novel way of approaching dengue diagnosis and disease prognosis using piecewise mixed effect regression modeling. It also suggests that a better discrimination of the day of disease can improve the diagnostic and prognostic classification power of clinical variables using ROC curve analysis. Although most laboratories performed well, we could clearly identify the laboratories that were poorly performing. Conclusions/significance We showed the technical feasibility of an international EQAS for the NAAT of STHs, Strongyloides and Schistosoma. In addition, we documented that there are clear benefits for participating laboratories, as they can confirm and/or improve the diagnostic performance of their NAATs. Despite a large amount of evidence about barriers and facilitators influencing health practitioners' care of survivors of DVA, evidence about their readiness to address DVA has not been synthesised. This article reports a meta-synthesis of qualitative studies exploring the research question What do health practitioners perceive enhances their readiness to address domestic violence and abuse? Multiple data bases were searched in June 2018. Inclusion criteria included qualitative design; population of health practitioners in clinical settings; and a focus on intimate partner violence. Two reviewers independently screened articles and findings from included papers were synthesised according to the method of thematic synthesis. Forty-seven articles were included in the final sample, spanning 41 individual studies, four systematic reviews and two theses between the years of 1992 and 2018; mostly from high income countries. Five themes were identified as enhancing readiness of health practitioners to address DVA Having a commitment; Adopting an advocacy approach; Trusting the relationship; Collaborating with a team; and Being supported by the health system. Objectives To prospectively examine the health and health-related behaviors of Army Special Forces personnel in comparison with two distinct, but functionally similar Army groups. Methods Special Forces, Ranger Qualified, and General Purposes Forces enrolled in the Millennium Cohort Study were identified using data from the Defense Manpower Data Center. Using prospective survey data (2001-2014), we estimated the association of Army specialization with mental health, social support, physical health, and health-related behaviors with multivariable regression models. Results Among the 5,392 eligible participants (84.4% General Purposes Forces, 10.0% Special Forces, 5.6% Ranger Qualified), Special Forces personnel reported the lowest prevalence of mental disorders, physical health problems, and unhealthy behaviors. In the multivariable models, Special Forces personnel were less likely to report mental health problems, multiple somatic symptoms, and unhealthy behaviors compared with General Purpose Forces infantrymen (odds ratios [OR] 0.20-0.54, p-values less then .01). Overall, Special Forces personnel were similar in terms of mental and physical health compared with Ranger Qualified infantrymen, but were less likely to sleep less then 5 hours/night (OR 0.60, 95% confidence intervals 0.40, 0.92) and have 5 or more multiple somatic symptoms (OR 0.69, 95% CI 0.49, 0.98). Both Special Forces personnel and Ranger Qualified infantrymen engaged in more healthy behaviors compared with General Purpose Forces infantrymen (OR 2.57-6.22, p-values less then 0.05). Engagement in more healthy behaviors reduced the odds of subsequent adverse health outcomes, regardless of specialization. Conclusions Army Special Forces personnel were found to be mentally and physically healthier than General Purpose Forces infantrymen, which may in part be due to their tendency to engage in healthy behaviors. However, some heart rate variability indices suggested increased sympathetic dominance in heifers disbudded at 35 d, compared to the other 2 age groups, independent of the injection procedure. We also found that heifers disbudded at 3 or 35 d had a higher mean heart rate after the injection procedure compared to those disbudded at 56 d. We used local polynomial smoothing to assess changes in MUAC and proportional weight gain between clinic visits and assessed their normalized differences for a non-zero linear trend. We estimated energy needs to meet or exceed the growth observed in 95% of visits.

Histopathological examination of the lesion confirmed a posterior fossa ependymoma with chondro-osseous metaplasia. The present case outlines the clinical presentation, histopathological findings, and outcome of chondro-osseous metaplasia in ependymomas. To date, the etiology of chondro-osseous metaplasia in ependymomas remains uncertain. Further research exploring such phenomenon is of paramount importance to explain how these tumors develop.Metastasis of the thyroid carcinoma to the paranasal sinuses is rarely reported. One year after the initiation of the jiggling exercise, both patients had remarkable clinical improvement. Three years later, remarkable joint remodelling was also revealed in plain radiographs. Jiggling exercise might be a feasible conservative treatment option for joint preservation.

All our patients received chemotherapy with albendazole because surgical treatment was not recommended. The children were followed-up from 10 to 30 months and no significant improvement was seen. We report a 3-year-old boy who presented with ataxia, vomiting, and headache for three months. Radiological imaging revealed a posterior fossa lesion. Histopathological examination of the lesion confirmed a posterior fossa ependymoma with chondro-osseous metaplasia. The present case outlines the clinical presentation, histopathological findings, and outcome of chondro-osseous metaplasia in ependymomas. To date, the etiology of chondro-osseous metaplasia in ependymomas remains uncertain. Finding a sound ecological-based approach for the removal of petroleum hydrocarbons (PHCs) from petroleum oily sludge (POS) generated in oil refinery plants is still a challenge. This study investigated the removal of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPHs) using bioaugmentated composting (**) by hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria (HDB) and vermicomposting (VC) by Eisenia fetida, individually and in combination (BCVC). After isolating two native bacterial strains from POS prepared from an oil refinery plant in Iran, the degradation capability of their consortium was initially assessed in mineral Bushnell-Haas medium (MBHM). Then, the biodegradation rates of POS in the **, VC, and BCVC treatments containing different concentrations of TPHs (5, 10, and 20 g/kg) were determined by measuring TPHs before and after the biodegradation. The results showed that the consortium degraded 20-62% of TPHs contents of Kerosene (1-5%) in the MBHM after 7 days. After 12 weeks, the TPHs removal percentages in the **, VC, and BCVC treatments were respectively found to be 81-83, 31-49, and 85-91 indicating the synergistic effect of bacteria and worms in bioremediation of POS. Obtained DEPs were enriched using GO and KEGG; and 66 DEPs took part in immune function, metabolic process, and apoptosis in the thymuses of chickens treated with NH3. 9 genes of DEPs were validated using qRT-PCR, and mRNA expression of 2 immune-related genes (CTSG and NFATC2), 3 metabolic process-related genes (APOA1, GOT1, and GOLGA3), and 4 apoptosis-related genes (PIK3CD, CTSS, CAMP, and NSD2) were consistent with DEPs in chicken thymuses. Our results indicated that excess NH3 led to immunosuppression, metabolic disorder, and apoptosis in chicken thymuses. Present study gives a novel insight into the mechanism of NH3 toxicity and demonstrated that immune response, metabolism process, and apoptosis were important in the mechanism of NH3 toxicity of chicken exposure to high concentration of NH3. Acetylcholine (ACh), a well-known major neurotransmitter, plays a potential role in response to abiotic stresses. However, the mechanism of ACh-mediated cadmium (Cd) toxicity in tobacco seedlings is largely uncharacterized. In this study, a hydroponics experiment was conducted under 100 μ**** stress in the presence or absence of ACh (50 μM) to investigate the potential effects of ACh on Cd toxicity. The results revealed that ACh application effectively alleviated Cd-induced reductions in plant growth, photosynthetic pigments and gas exchange attributes and improved the photosystem II activity. Ultrastructural observation indicated that Cd exposure ruptured the internal structure of chloroplasts, and even caused the accumulation of osmiophilic granules in chloroplasts, whereas these phenomena were alleviated by the addition of ACh. Cd stress also caused a marked increase in oxidative stress, as evidenced by the accumulation of O2- and H2O2, which were efficiently minimized after ACh application by up-regulating antioxidant enzyme activities (superoxide dismutase, ***; catalase, CAT; ascorbate peroxidase, APX; glutathione reductase, GR). Besides, Cd stress considerably increased the levels of glutathione (GSH), Non-protein thiols (NPTs) and phytochelatins (PCs), whereas ACh application to Cd-stressed seedlings further increased those contents, thereby enhancing the tolerance of Cd-stressed plants. Here, we analyze the use of raw materials in a long series of superimposed layers from Tabun Cave dating to the Middle Pleistocene, attributed to the Lower and Middle Paleolithic periods. Using the cortex preserved on the surfaces of artifacts, including blanks, tools and cores, we distinguished between flints obtained from primary and secondary geological contexts. The results from Tabun Cave indicate that the exploitation of secondary sources was fairly common during the earlier part of the Lower Paleolithic sequence. It decreased during the later part of the Acheulo-Yabrudian complex of the Lower Paleolithic, coinciding with growing use of predetermined technological strategies, which demand high-quality raw materials. By the Middle Paleolithic, primary and secondary raw materials are generally designated for different reduction trajectories, suggesting a growing distinction and formalization of technological strategies. The need for the 'best' stone for Middle Paleolithic laminar and Levallois production may have necessitated increased investment in raw material procurement. During most of the Lower Paleolithic, raw material needs could have been met easily through a purely embedded strategy, in which raw material was collected while focusing on other activities. Starting in the late Acheulo-Yabrudian and especially during the Middle Paleolithic, the focus on primary geological contexts may have demanded greater planning of visits to raw material outcrops. In other words, in the Middle Paleolithic and possibly already during the very end of the Lower Paleolithic, raw material procurement had greater influence on patterns of movement through the landscape.

Objectives We investigated how hMOs combined with intestinal peristaltic shear force impact intestinal epithelial cells and crosstalk with a commensal bacterium. Methods We applied the Ibidi system to mimic intestinal peristaltic shear force. Caco-2 cells were exposed to a shear force (5 dynes/cm2) for 3 d, and then stimulated with the hMOs, 2'-fucosyllactose (2'-FL), 3-FL, and lacto-N-triose II (LNT2). In separate experiments, Lactobacillus plantarumWCFS1 adhesion to Caco-2 cells was studied with the same hMOs and shear force. Effects were tested on gene expression of glycocalyx-related molecules (glypican 1 [GPC1], hyaluronan synthase 1 [HAS1], HAS2, HAS3, exostosin glycosyltransferase 1 [EXT1], EXT2), defensin β-1 (DEFB1), and tight junulating effects of hMOs.Background Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is typically associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease. Recent studies, however, have suggested that hypercapnia and chronic intermittent hypoxia may potentially provide protection against ischemic events like stroke. Objective To evaluate the impact of OSA with presentation, hospital course, and treatment outcomes of patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Methods Data for patients with SAH between the years 2011 and 2015 were extracted from the Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS) and stratified based on diagnosis codes for OSA. Univariate analysis was used to assess the prevalence of comorbidities in OSA patients diagnosed with SAH and several covariates, including patient demographics, aneurysmal treatment, in-hospital morality rate, length of stay, and costs. Multivariate logistic regression models analyzed the relationship between several comorbidities, including OSA, tobacco use, and hypertension, and poor outcomes after SAH. Results Data from 49 265 SAH patients were used in this study, of which 2408 (4.9%) also had a concomitant OSA diagnosis. Patients with OSA compared to all other SAH patients had a significantly lower in-hospital mortality rate, as well as statistically significant lower odds of vasospasm, stroke, and poor outcomes. Additionally, hypercholesterolemia, obesity, and tobacco use disorder were also associated with more favorable outcomes. Conclusion SAH patients with OSA are significantly less likely to have a poor outcome when compared to non-OSA patients, despite having an increased risk of several comorbidities.Acute graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is a life-threatening complication after allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT). While currently used GVHD treatment regimens target the donor immune system, we explored here an approach that aims at protecting and regenerating Paneth cells (PC) and intestinal stem cells (ISC). Glucagon-like-peptide-2 (GLP-2) is an enteroendocrine tissue hormone, produced by intestinal L-cells. We observed that acute GVHD reduced intestinal GLP-2 levels in **** and patients developing GVHD. Treatment with the GLP-2 agonist, teduglutide, reduced de novo acute GVHD and steroid-refractory GVHD, without compromising graft-versus-leukemia (GVL) effects in multiple mouse models. Mechanistically GLP-2 substitution promoted regeneration of PCs and ISCs which enhanced production of antimicrobial peptides and caused microbiome changes. GLP-2 expanded intestinal organoids and reduced expression of apoptosis-related genes. Low numbers of L-cells in intestinal biopsies and high serum levels of GLP-2 were associated with higher incidence of non-relapse mortality in patients undergoing allo-HCT. Our findings indicate that L-cells are a target of GVHD and that GLP-2-based treatment of acute GVHD restores intestinal homeostasis via an increase of ISCs and PCs without impairing GVL effects. Teduglutide could become a novel combination partner for immunosuppressive GVHD therapy to be tested in clinical trials.Objective Trunk training after stroke is an effective method for improving mobility, yet underlying associations leading to the observed mobility carryover effects are unknown. The purposes of this study were to investigate the effectiveness of trunk training for gait and trunk kinematics and to find explanatory variables for the mobility carryover effects. Methods This study was an assessor-masked randomized controlled trial. Correlation and an exploratory regression analysis were used to examine associations with the mobility carryover effects. No significant differences were observed in lower limb kinematics. Anteroposterior excursions of the trunk were associated with 30% of the variability in the mobility carryover effects. Conclusions Carryover effects of trunk control were present during ambulation. Decreased anteroposterior movements of the thorax were the main variable explaining higher scores on the Tinetti POMA Gait subscale. However, the implementation and generalizability of this treatment approach in a clinical setting are laborious and limited, necessitating further research. Impact Trunk training is an effective strategy for improving mobility after stroke. Regaining trunk control should be considered an important treatment goal early after stroke to adequately prepare patients for walking.

Conclusion In this nationwide cohort, β-blocker therapy for ≥1 year after MI was associated with reduced all-cause death among patients with AMI without HF.Background The intestinal epithelial cells, food molecules, and gut microbiota are continuously exposed to intestinal peristaltic shear force. Shear force may impact the crosstalk of human milk oligosaccharides (hMOs) with commensal bacteria and intestinal epithelial cells. Objectives We investigated how hMOs combined with intestinal peristaltic shear force impact intestinal epithelial cells and crosstalk with a commensal bacterium. Methods We applied the Ibidi system to mimic intestinal peristaltic shear force. Caco-2 cells were exposed to a shear force (5 dynes/cm2) for 3 d, and then stimulated with the hMOs, 2'-fucosyllactose (2'-FL), 3-FL, and lacto-N-triose II (LNT2). In separate experiments, Lactobacillus plantarumWCFS1 adhesion to Caco-2 cells was studied with the same hMOs and shear force. Effects were tested on gene expression of glycocalyx-related molecules (glypican 1 [GPC1], hyaluronan synthase 1 [HAS1], HAS2, HAS3, exostosin glycosyltransferase 1 [EXT1], EXT2), defensin β-1 (DEFB1), and tight junulating effects of hMOs.Background Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is typically associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease. Recent studies, however, have suggested that hypercapnia and chronic intermittent hypoxia may potentially provide protection against ischemic events like stroke. Objective To evaluate the impact of OSA with presentation, hospital course, and treatment outcomes of patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Methods Data for patients with SAH between the years 2011 and 2015 were extracted from the Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS) and stratified based on diagnosis codes for OSA. Univariate analysis was used to assess the prevalence of comorbidities in OSA patients diagnosed with SAH and several covariates, including patient demographics, aneurysmal treatment, in-hospital morality rate, length of stay, and costs. Multivariate logistic regression models analyzed the relationship between several comorbidities, including OSA, tobacco use, and hypertension, and poor outcomes after SAH. Results Data from 49 265 SAH patients were used in this study, of which 2408 (4.9%) also had a concomitant OSA diagnosis. Patients with OSA compared to all other SAH patients had a significantly lower in-hospital mortality rate, as well as statistically significant lower odds of vasospasm, stroke, and poor outcomes. Additionally, hypercholesterolemia, obesity, and tobacco use disorder were also associated with more favorable outcomes. Conclusion SAH patients with OSA are significantly less likely to have a poor outcome when compared to non-OSA patients, despite having an increased risk of several comorbidities.Acute graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is a life-threatening complication after allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT). While currently used GVHD treatment regimens target the donor immune system, we explored here an approach that aims at protecting and regenerating Paneth cells (PC) and intestinal stem cells (ISC). Glucagon-like-peptide-2 (GLP-2) is an enteroendocrine tissue hormone, produced by intestinal L-cells. We observed that acute GVHD reduced intestinal GLP-2 levels in mice and patients developing GVHD. Treatment with the GLP-2 agonist, teduglutide, reduced de novo acute GVHD and steroid-refractory GVHD, without compromising graft-versus-leukemia (GVL) effects in multiple mouse models. Mechanistically GLP-2 substitution promoted regeneration of PCs and ISCs which enhanced production of antimicrobial peptides and caused microbiome changes. GLP-2 expanded intestinal organoids and reduced expression of apoptosis-related genes. Low numbers of L-cells in intestinal biopsies and high serum levels of GLP-2 were associated with higher incidence of non-relapse mortality in patients undergoing allo-HCT. Our findings indicate that L-cells are a target of GVHD and that GLP-2-based treatment of acute GVHD restores intestinal homeostasis via an increase of ISCs and PCs without impairing GVL effects. The purposes of this study were to investigate the effectiveness of trunk training for gait and trunk kinematics and to find explanatory variables for the mobility carryover effects. Methods This study was an assessor-masked randomized controlled trial. Decreased anteroposterior movements of the thorax were the main variable explaining higher scores on the Tinetti POMA Gait subscale. However, the implementation and generalizability of this treatment approach in a clinical setting are laborious and limited, necessitating further research. Impact Trunk training is an effective strategy for improving mobility after stroke. In this experimental study, 20 quails were divided into 4 groups (n = 5 for group A, B, and C, n = 5 for control group). The quails in group A, B, and C were infected via intraocular and intranasal routes with 0.2 mL of 10 × 5 EID50 of the virus. Clinical signs, gross lesions, positive detection of virus, and trachea histopathological scoring were used to assess the susceptibility of these Japanese quails. The results have indicated mild ruffled feathers and watery feces in these inoculated birds. Trachea, lung, and kidney were subjected to one-step reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction for virus detection. The virus was found from trachea and lung samples, whereas it was absent from all kidney samples. Only 3 quails were found with gross lesions. Ensuring efficient cleaning and disinfection (C&D) of equipment used for transport is needed to prevent the spread of AI. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy against the AI virus of C&D protocols applied on trucks and crates used for the transport of ducks during the H5N8 AI outbreaks in France in 2017. In 3 abattoirs, 16 transport vehicles and their crates were sampled by swabbing to detect the influenza type A genome by real-time reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction. Vehicles were tested before and after decontamination, which was carried out in accordance with the abattoirs' protocols. A total of 86 samples out of 299 collected before C&D were positive for AI (29%); 7 trucks out of 16 transported crates detected positive for AI. After C&D, the AI genome was detected in 56 samples out of 308 (18%). Ten trucks were loaded with a shipment of AI-positive crates. Eight vehicles were detected positive in the cabin, on the truck bed, and/or on the wheels. Despite reinforcement of C&D, the efficacy of decontamination was variable among slaughterhouses. The efficacy seemed to depend on the initial contamination load, C&D protocols, and how the protocol is implemented. Breaks in biosecurity measures led to frequent contamination of trucks after C&D. Among alternative splicing isoforms of avian MSTN, MSTN-A has antimyogenic activities and MSTN-B functions as a promyogenic factor. In this study, different lines of Japanese quail were used a random bred control (RBC) and a heavy weight (HW) quail line with muscle hypertrophy. The objectives of the current study are to compare temporal expression of the MSTN isoforms in pectoralis major muscle (PM) between 2 quail lines and to relate MSTN expression with temporal changes in muscle growth and total amounts of DNA in PM. Gains of body weight (BW) and PM weight were greater until posthatch day (D) 28 (P less then 0.001), and the fold increases in total DNA contents of PM were greater in the HW line compared with the RBC line during D7 to D28 (P less then 0.05). PCR analysis showed that MSTN-A expression was greater at 14 D (E14) of embryonic age (P less then 0.01), D7 (P = 0.052), and D14 (P less then 0.01) in the RBC line compared with the HW line. At D28 and D75, expression of MSTN-A was greater in the HW line compared with the RBC line (P less then 0.05). MSTN-B expression was barely detectable from E14 to D14 and measurable from D28 to D75 in the muscle of both lines. Ratios of the MSTN-B/-A form ranging from 0.15 to 0.29 indicate a minor expression of the B form. Taken together, the lesser expression levels of MSTN-A at E14, D7, and D14 are associated with the fast growth of PM, and greater MSTN-A expression at D28 and D75 are associated with a slowdown of PM growth in the HW line. In this study, the effects of methionine and lysine, which are the 2 most limiting amino acids in the chicken diet, were supplemented in a low crude protein diet, and its effects on the growth and expression of immunity genes such as ****, SLC, GAL6, and LEAP-2 were studied. A total of 300 Cobb500 broilers were tested with 10 different dietary treatments. Vehicles were tested before and after decontamination, which was carried out in accordance with the abattoirs' protocols. A total of 86 samples out of 299 collected before C&D were positive for AI (29%); 7 trucks out of 16 transported crates detected positive for AI. After C&D, the AI genome was detected in 56 samples out of 308 (18%). Ten trucks were loaded with a shipment of AI-positive crates. Eight vehicles were detected positive in the cabin, on the truck bed, and/or on the wheels. Despite reinforcement of C&D, the efficacy of decontamination was variable among slaughterhouses. The efficacy seemed to depend on the initial contamination load, C&D protocols, and how the protocol is implemented. Breaks in biosecurity measures led to frequent contamination of trucks after C&D. Observational studies during animal health crises are of interest to analyze practices in emergency conditions and to put forward measures aimed at increased preparedness.Myostatin (MSTN) negatively regulates in muscle growth and development. Among alternative splicing isoforms of avian MSTN, MSTN-A has antimyogenic activities and MSTN-B functions as a promyogenic factor. In this study, different lines of Japanese quail were used a random bred control (RBC) and a heavy weight (HW) quail line with muscle hypertrophy. The objectives of the current study are to compare temporal expression of the MSTN isoforms in pectoralis major muscle (PM) between 2 quail lines and to relate MSTN expression with temporal changes in muscle growth and total amounts of DNA in PM. Gains of body weight (BW) and PM weight were greater until posthatch day (D) 28 (P less then 0.001), and the fold increases in total DNA contents of PM were greater in the HW line compared with the RBC line during D7 to D28 (P less then 0.05). PCR analysis showed that MSTN-A expression was greater at 14 D (E14) of embryonic age (P less then 0.01), D7 (P = 0.052), and D14 (P less then 0.01) in the RBC line compared with the HW line. At D28 and D75, expression of MSTN-A was greater in the HW line compared with the RBC line (P less then 0.05). MSTN-B expression was barely detectable from E14 to D14 and measurable from D28 to D75 in the muscle of both lines. Ratios of the MSTN-B/-A form ranging from 0.15 to 0.29 indicate a minor expression of the B form. Taken together, the lesser expression levels of MSTN-A at E14, D7, and D14 are associated with the fast growth of PM, and greater MSTN-A expression at D28 and D75 are associated with a slowdown of PM growth in the HW line. These data indicate a negative association of MSTN expression with PM growth and provide a scientific basis for potential usage of MSTN expression as a selection marker for greater muscle growth in poultry.Globally, the poultry industry is 1 of the most advanced livestock industries. Most feed ingredients in Malaysia are imported, which contributes to the high food bill annually, and alternative feed formulation may help decrease the cost of poultry feed. Feed formulation are improved to efficiently meet the dietary requirements of the broilers and 1 of the ways is by reducing the level of crude protein in the diet while supplementing essential amino acids. In this study, the effects of methionine and lysine, which are the 2 most limiting amino acids in the chicken diet, were supplemented in a low crude protein diet, and its effects on the growth and expression of immunity genes such as MUC2, SLC, GAL6, and LEAP-2 were studied. A total of 300 Cobb500 broilers were tested with 10 different dietary treatments.
