  • In this study, we utilized a hierarchical multilevel modeling approach to test the hypothesis that the activity of the organophosphate insecticide pirimiphos-methyl against the cosmopolitan serious secondary pest of stored products, the yellow mealworm, Tenebrio molitor (Coleoptera Tenebrionidae), is affected by temperature, relative humidity (RH), and developmental stage (adults, small larvae, large larvae). Our results showed that as temperature increased from 20 to 25 °C, the observed mortality of T. molitor was significantly higher. Our results could be useful tools for the management of T. molitor by indicating the optimum combination of temperature and RH that favors the insecticidal treatment against this species. Platinum-coated titanium (Ti/Pt) and boron-doped diamond (BDD) electrodes were studied as anodes. Different current densities (13-75 A m-2), pH values (3-10), electrolyte dosages (NaCl), and matrix effects were assessed using municipal wastewater (MWW). The drugs were successfully degraded after 5 min of reaction for both the Ti/Pt and BDD electrodes when a current density of 75 A m-2 was applied. For Ti/Pt and BDD, neutral and acidic pH demonstrated better CEC removal performance, respectively.

    We retrospectively identified 3512 primary TJAs (2344 total hip arthroplasties and 1168 total knee arthroplasties) with ASA used as VTE chemoprophylaxis between 2000 and 2019. Patients received ASA twice daily for 4-6 weeks after surgery with 961 (27%) receiving low-dose ASA and 2551 (73%) receiving regular-dose ASA. The primary endpoint was 90-day incidence of symptomatic VTEs. Secondary outcomes were gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding events and mortality. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of the implementation of an opioid-sparing protocol on survey-based patient satisfaction scores following total hip arthroplasty (THA).

    This study is a retrospective review of prospectively collected data on patients who underwent primary THA between November 2014 and July 2019. Inclusion criteria consisted of primary elective THA with complete Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey information. Cohorts were separated based on their date of surgery relative to the start of an institutional opioid-sparing-protocol in October 2018. Discharge prescriptions and refills were recorded on chart review and converted to milligram morphine equivalents (MME) for comparison between different opioids. HCAHPS results were analyzed forse in post-operative opioid refills. LOE III.

    Treatment options for metastatic osseous lesions of the proximal femur include hemiarthroplasty (HA) or total hip arthroplasty (THA) depending on lesion characteristics and patient demographics. Studies assessing short-term outcomes after HA/THA in this patient population are limited. Therefore, the purpose of this present study was to identify short-term rates of morbidity and mortality after HA/THA for pathological proximal femur fractures, as well as readmission and reoperation rates and reasons.

    This study utilized a large, prospectively collected registry to identify patients who underwent HA/THA between 2011 and 2018. Patients were stratified by indication for surgery, including pathological fracture, nonpathological fracture, and osteoarthritis. Baseline patient characteristics and postoperative complications were compared using bivariate and/or multivariate analysis.

    In total, 883 patients undergoing HA/THA for a pathological fracture were identified. Relative to an osteoarthritis cohort, these patients tended to be older, had a lower body mass index, and had significantly more preoperative comorbidities. These patients had high rates of total complications (13.93%), including thirty-day mortality (3.29%), unplanned return to the operating room (4.98%), and pulmonary complications (3.85%). Patients with pathological fracture had a longer operative duration relative to osteoarthritis and nonpathological cohorts (+27 and+25minutes, respectively), despite having high rates of HAs performed.

    Patients undergoing hip arthroplasty for pathologic proximal femur fracture have increased morbidity and mortality relative to an osteoarthritis cohort.   • Adipocytes were found to be flattened/shrunken and of smaller size (-33.5% at 1week; -31.7% at 1-month) along with occasional ruptures of the cytoplasmic membrane. In contrast to baseline, pyknotic nuclei with condensed nuclear chromatin were seen at 1-week and 1-month post-treatment. The control samples showed no treatment-related changes. Waist circumference decreased by an average of 2.20cm in the treated patients. No adverse events were observed.     The study aimed to evaluate the risk factors based on pathological findings comprehensively in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) using image analysis.

    Scanned images of hematoxylin and eosin-, pan-cytokeratin-, CD3-, and CD8-stained slides of OSCC cases from 256 patients were analyzed, and six variables were obtained including the tumor-stroma ratio, tumor budding per tumor bed area, and tumor infiltrating lymphocytes-associated variables. We determined the "score" of all cases based on the variables, and all cases were classified into low-, intermediate-, and high-risk groups.

    A significant difference in prognosis was confirmed between the risk groups (p < 0.001), and even when evaluated within different tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) stages, the high-risk groups were associated with poor survival.

    Postinflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) may affect any skin type but has been linked more often to darker skin. While propensity to hyperpigmentation has not been fully elucidated, there may be a direct correlation to one's palmar crease pigmentation.

    The aim of this study is to validate the reliable use of a palmar creases pigmentation (PCP) scale, and its accuracy in predicting the risk of PIH.

    A prospective, comparative, and blinded study was conducted through photo-numeric analysis of 126 photographs of pairs of palms. We utilized a 4-point visual scale based on the level of contrast between palmar crease pigment and that of the surrounding skin. Score 0 indicated no difference, score 1 referred to a low difference, score 2 meant a moderate difference, and score 3 related to a high difference. Scores were subdivided based on the risk of PIH.     Many standardized outcome measures exist to measure recovery after surgical fixation of distal radius fractures, however, choosing the optimal instrument is difficult. We evaluated responsiveness, ceiling/floor effects, and criterion validity over multiple time intervals across a 2-year follow-up period for six commonly used instruments.

    A total of 259 patients who received open reduction and internal fixation for distal radius fractures between 2012 and 2015 were recruited. Patients were administered the Patient-Rated Wrist Evaluation (

However, little is known regarding the role of individual differences patient-variables (such as depression, self-efficacy, and motivation) in moderating the efficacy of COTs. This systematic review aimed to identify and analyze COT trials which investigated the relationship between differences in these patient-variables and intervention outcomes for older adults across healthy, MCI, and dementia populations. Of the 4854 studies extracted from the systematic search, 14 were included for analysis. While results were mixed across interventions and populations, on balance, greater depression severity predicted poorer cognitive functioning, and improvement in depressive symptom severity may account for at least part of the cognitive benefits seen at post-intervention. These findings were strongest for studies of MCI populations, with there being limited evidence of a relationship for healthy older adults or those with dementia. Overall, this review demonstrates the need for further investigation into the role of individual differences and clinical variables - particularly depression symptom severity - in attenuating COT outcomes through larger sample, high-quality randomized controlled trials.

    This study employs a qualitative methodology, assuming a discovery-oriented approach which draws from grounded theory. Twelve psychotherapy triads participated, composed of children aged 6-10, their parents and psychotherapists. Semi-structured follow-up interviews were conducted (N=36), including a drawing in the case of the children.

    A positive therapeutic relationship with children and parents was viewed as a gradually constructed process, based on a positive emotional encounter between participants. It was facilitated primarily by the therapist's commitment and playful stance, the child and therapist mutual involvement, and the parent's collaboration. These aspects entailed a trustful, validating and caring relationship, that shaped children and parents' motivations towards therapy and facilitated change.

    From a multiple-perspective approach, therapy was conceived as a relational experience. The development of positive relationships required different and evolving dispositions from therapy main actors. Therapists' genuine feelings and engagement in therapeutic activity seem central, underlining the importance of addressing relational aspects in child therapy research and training.

To meet this challenge, the Indian Board of Micro Restorative and Endodontics under the aegis of the Indian Association of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics has begun a fellowship program in Micro Restorative and Endodontics; the main aim being to improve the knowledge and skills of these specialists empowering them to go a step higher and beyond their areas of specialization. The objectives of the fellowship course are as follows (1) Achieving necessary skills in managing routine and advanced restorative and endodontic scenarios using modern magnification technology. (2) Constantly enhancing the existing knowledge by pursuing new arenas in magnification technology. (3) Complete understanding and application of cutting edge research in the practice of microrestorative and endodontics. (4) Ensuring the highest possible patient-centric quality of care. Learning experiences shall be provided under the guidance and supervision of competent mentors at predesignated centers all over India. The learning strategies will be through workshops, contact sessions, and learning assignments. The carefully designed curriculum shall prepare the restorative dentists and endodontists, to be an autonomous, effective, safe, and a compassionate professional, who practices collaboratively in a variety of clinical and academic setups, responsive to the current and future needs of the restorative and endodontic health-care system.     The aim was to compare cyclic fatigue, torsional failure, and flexural resistance of NiTi endodontic files Hyflex CM (HYF), Genius files (GEN), WaveOne Gold (WOG), and ProTaper Universal (PTU).

    Fifteen files of each brand were used in cyclic fatigue test and other fifteen files for flexural test and torsional failure test. To the cyclic fatigue test, used torque limit and revolutions per minute were set according to the respective manufacturer guidelines. The test was performed under deionized water at 36°C, and all files were tested in a 3 mm radius of curvature with an angle of curvature of 60°, time of the fracture was recorded. Torsional fatigue test was performed in the torsional machine (Instron MT, USA), recording the fractured time and torque data by the machine software. Flexural fatigue test was performed in 60° of curvature. All data were statistically analyzed by one-way analysis of variance, and Tukey test for multiple comparisons.

Knowledge of dose and time-dependent expression of VEGF from platelet concentrates, namely platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) and PRF matrix (PRFM), along with vital pulp can aid in developing strategies to improve the outcome of vital pulp therapy and regenerative procedures. The aim was to compare cyclic fatigue, torsional failure, and flexural resistance of NiTi endodontic files Hyflex CM (HYF), Genius files (GEN), WaveOne Gold (WOG), and ProTaper Universal (PTU). Fifteen files of each brand were used in cyclic fatigue test and other fifteen files for flexural test and torsional failure test. To the cyclic fatigue test, used torque limit and revolutions per minute were set according to the respective manufacturer guidelines. The test was performed under deionized water at 36°C, and all files were tested in a 3 mm radius of curvature with an angle of curvature of 60°, time of the fracture was recorded. Torsional fatigue test was performed in the torsional machine (Instron MT, USA), recording the fractured time and torque data by the machine software. Flexural fatigue test was performed in 60° of curvature. All data were statistically analyzed by one-way analysis of variance, and Tukey test for multiple comparisons. The BreastScreen Australia Remote Radiology Assessment Model (RRAM) is an initiative developed to address the challenges of inadequate access to a local radiological workforce in regional Australia. With the growth in telehealth innovations more broadly, the RRAM represents a departure from the traditional onsite model where a radiologist would be co-located with practice staff during assessment clinics. Understanding client satisfaction is an important consideration with new models. This article explores client perceptions of the RRAM including awareness, satisfaction with experiences, confidence in the quality of care being received, and preferences regarding models of service delivery.

    Clients in four BreastScreen services across three Australian states and territories were invited to provide feedback on their experiences of the RRAd, and the majority having no preference for either the onsite or remote model indicates their acceptance of the RRAM. Client acceptance of the model supports continuation of the RRAM at these sites and expansion.     There is excess amenable mortality risk and evidence of healthcare quality deficits for persons with serious mental illness (SMI). We sought to identify sociodemographic and clinical characteristics associated with variations in two 2015 Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) measures, antipsychotic medication adherence and preventive diabetes screening, among Medicaid enrollees with serious mental illness (SMI).

    We retrospectively analyzed claims data from September 2014 to December 2015 from enrollees in a Medicaid specialty health plan in Florida. All plan enrollees had SMI; analyses included continuously enrolled adults with antipsychotic medication prescriptions and schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. Associations were identified using mixed effects logistic regression models.

    Data for 5502 enrollees were analyzed. Substance use disorders, depression, and having both schizophrenia and bipolar disorder diagnoses were associated with both HEDIS measures but the direction of the assoh different measures of care quality, multidimensional approaches are warranted.

Human and vector activities outside the hours when indoor interventions offer direct protection from infectious bites potentially increase exposure risk to bites from malaria-transmitting Anopheles mosquitoes. This work investigated the degree of variation in human behaviour both between individuals and through time (season) to quantify how it impacts exposure to malaria vectors.

    Patterns in human overnight activity (1800-0600) to quantify time spent using an ITN across 7 successive nights in two rural communities, Niakore (N = 24 participants) and Toma (71 participants), were observed in the dry and rainy seasons, between 2017 and 2018. Hourly human landing Anopheles mosquito catches were conducted in Niakore specifically, and Cascades region generally, between 2016 and 2017. Data were statistically combined to estimate seasonal variation in time spent outdoors and Anopheles bitetdoors between people and across the year. Appreciation of sociodemographic, cultural and entomological activities will help refine approaches to vector control.

The neighborhood environment represents an important arena for modifying these behaviors, and hence reliable and valid tools to measure it are needed. Most existing virtual audit tools have been designed to assess either food or activity environments deemed relevant for adults. Thus, there is a need for a tool that combines the assessment of food and activity environments, and which focuses on aspects of the environment relevant for youth.

    The aims of the present study were (a) to adapt the SPOTLIGHT Virtual Audit Tool (S-VAT) developed to assess characteristics of the built environment deemed relevant for adults for use in an adolescent population, (b) to assess the tool's inter- and intra-rater reliability, and (c) to assess its criterion validity by comparing the virtual audit to a field audit.

Here, we present the complete genome sequence of L. monocytogenes serotype 7 strain FSL R9-0915 and an analysis of genes known to affect L. monocytogenes antigenicity. This strain is used as a control strain in Listeria phage host range analyses.We report here a chromosome-level genome assembly of the aflatoxigenic fungus Aspergillus flavus strain CA14. This strain is the basis for numerous studies in fungal physiology and secondary metabolism. This full-length assembly will aid in subsequent genomics research.We report here the genome sequence of Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis N8, a nisin producer isolated in the 1960s from a dairy product in Finland. The genome consists of a 2.42-Mb chromosome and two plasmids of 80.3 and 71.3 kb.Here, we report the genome of Acetobacter tropicalis DmPark25_167, a bacterial strain isolated from a Drosophila melanogasterpark25 mutant. Standard methods of evaluating the mechanical properties of the material under static tensile and bending stress, as well as under dynamic impact stress using the Charpy method, were used for the experimental measurements. The rheological properties of materials were monitored using a method involving measuring the melt flow index, while their thermal properties and oxidative stability were monitored using differential scanning calorimetry. Based on the methods used, it can be clearly stated that the most suitable technique for detecting thermally degraded recycled material in polypropylene is the method involving establishing the melt flow index. The bending test seems to be the most suitable method for detecting recycled material by measuring the material's mechanical properties. Similarly to the melt volume flow rate (MVR) method, it was possible to unambiguously detect the presence of even a small amount of recycled material in the whole from measuring the material's bending properties.

  • The abnormal expression of activating transcription factor 3 (ATF3), a member of the basic leucine zipper (bZIP) family of transcription factors, is associated with carcinogenesis. However, the expression pattern and exact role of ATF3 in the development and progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remain unclear.

    We used UALCAN, ONCOMINE, Kaplan-Meier plotter, and cBioPortal databases to investigate the prognostic value of ATF3 expression in HCC.

    ATF3 was found to be expressed at low levels in multiple HCC tumor tissues. Moreover, low ATF3 expression was significantly associated with clinical cancer stage and pathological tumor grade in patients with HCC. Therefore, low expression of ATF3 was significantly associated with poor overall survival in patients with HCC. Functional network analysis showed that ATF3 regulates cytokine receptors and signaling pathways via various cancer-related kinases, miRNAs, and transcription factors. ATF3 expression was found to be correlated with macrophage infiltration levels and with macrophage immune marker sets in HCC patients.

    Using data mining methods, we clarified the role of ATF3 expression and related regulatory networks in HCC, laying a foundation for further functional research. Future research will validate our findings and establish clinical applications of ATF3 in the diagnosis and treatment of HCC.

    Understanding how comorbidity measures contribute to patient mortality is essential both to describe patient health status and to adjust for risks and potential confounding. The Charlson and Elixhauser comorbidity indices are well-established for risk adjustment and mortality prediction. Still, a different set of comorbidity weights might improve the prediction of in-hospital mortality. The present study, therefore, aimed to derive a set of new Swiss Elixhauser comorbidity weightings, to validate and compare them against those of the Charlson and Elixhauser-based van Walraven weights in an adult in-patient population-based cohort of general hospitals.

    Retrospective analysis was conducted with routine data of 102 Swiss general hospitals (2012-2017) for 6.09 million inpatient cases. To derive the Swiss weightings for the Elixhauser comorbidity index, we randomly halved the inpatient data and validated the results of part 1 alongside the established weighting systems in part 2, to predict in-hospital mortali previous results with the national dataset. The new Swiss weightings model improved slightly the prediction of in-hospital mortality in Swiss hospitals. The newly derive weights support patient population-based analysis of in-hospital mortality and seek country or specific cohort-based weightings.
