However, the underlying mechanism of how long noncoding RNA (lncRNAs) regulate the AKT-mTORC1 pathway remains unclear. Further knockdown of ****abolished the EPIC1's regulation of AKT-mTORC1 signaling; suggested that the regulation of phosphorylation level of AKT, 4EBP1, and S6K by EPIC1 depended on the expression of Myc. Moreover, EPIC1 overexpressed MCF-7, A2780cis, and OVCAR4 cells treated with rapamycin showed a significant decreasing in rapamycin mediated inhibition of p-S6K and p-S6 comparing with the control group. In addition, Colony Formation assay and MTT assay indicated that EPIC1 overexpression led to rapamycin resistance in breast and ovarian cancer cell lines. Our results demonstrated the lncRNA EPIC1 expression activated the AKT-mTORC1 signaling pathway through ****and led to rapamycin resistance in breast and ovarian cancer.

Between January 2018 and December 2018, we conducted a prospective, interventional, before and after study, based on audits performed by Infectious Diseases physicians in a SUD facility in Piedimonte Matese, in southern Italy, to improve the knowledge about HCV infection; a shared protocol for screening and linkage to care of patients was implemented. The pre-intervention period was defined as January-December 2017 and the post-intervention period as January-December 2018. The subjects followed up at SUD facility in the pre-intervention and post-intervention periods were 318 and 275, respectively. Compared with the pre-intervention period, the number of anti-HCV-positive subjects tested for HCV RNA was higher in the post-intervention period (91% vs 27%, P less then .0001), as was the number who started directly acting antivirals (DAAs). Of the 18 HCV RNA-positive subjects in the pre-intervention period, only 3 (16.6%) started DAA, a percentage decisively lower than that observed after the start of the programme, 63 (84%) of 75 subjects (P less then .0001), and all obtained SVR. The data were similar for people who inject drugs (PWID) and non-PWID sub-populations. EsIgG was detected in the serum and the colon tissues of UC patients, which was positively correlated with the polymorphonuclear neutrophil (PMN) counts in the blood and colon tissues of UC patients. EsIgG formed immune complexes with the constitutive enolase in the UC colon epithelium that activated complement, induced epithelial cell apoptosis, compromised epithelial barrier functions, and resulted in UC-like inflammation in the mouse colon. In summary, UC patients have high serum levels of Abs against HDM-derived enolase and intestinal epithelial cell-derived enolase.

Factors associated with resolution of macroscopic hematuria and resolution of all cystitis symptoms within 90 days after HC diagnosis were investigated in multivariable models. In 128 patients with BKPyV-HC, the median times from diagnosis to resolution of all symptoms, macroscopic hematuria, and urinary clots (present in 55% [71/128]) were 24 days (15-44), 17 days (10-30), and 14 days (5-26), respectively. Ninety percent of patients had BKPyV viremia at the onset of HC with a median viral load of 1850 copies/mL (interquartile range, 240-8550). In multivariable models, high plasma viral load (≥10 000 copies/mL) and cytopenias at the beginning of BKPyV-HC were significantly associated with longer macroscopic hematuria and cystitis symptoms. Use of cidofovir was not associated with shorter duration of illness. In conclusion, BKPyV-HC after allogeneic HCT is characterized by prolonged and severe symptoms and requires improved management strategies. We verified the deletion on genomic and transcriptional levels in megakaryocytes and were not able to detect any residual IKK2 protein; however, platelets from these **** did not show any functional impairment in vivo or in vitro. Two validated HRQoL instruments, Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Lymphoma (FACT-Lym) and Short Form-36 (SF-36) Health Survey, were used to measure HRQoL at baseline and months 3, 6, 12, and 18. At data cutoff (21 May 2018), 115 patients had received tisagenlecleucel infusion. Among the 99 patients evaluated, overall response rate was 54%, and 40% of patients achieved complete response (CR). Initially, 108 patients completed the HRQoL assessments at baseline, including 57 patients who eventually achieved CR or partial response (PR). Further, 30 and 21 patients in clinical response who completed assessments at baseline also completed assessments at months 12 and 18, respectively.     Using data from the Millennium Cohort Study conducted in the UK, behavioural problems of 14 452 children were analysed using a growth curve model. The children were followed from birth to adolescence, and their behavioural problems were measured by the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ). The SDQ was sub-scaled into externalising and internalising problems. After assessing the general trajectory of children's behavioural problems, variables representing SEP and parenting environments were introduced to the model to analyse the association with children's outcomes.

    Overall, children's trajectories in externalising problems showed a decreasing trend while internalising problems increased as they aged. Household income and maternal education in early childhood were independently associated with children's behavioural problems, while the courages policies to promote better parenting circumstances.

    We searched the Chamber of Deputies and Federal Senate internal databases to identify bills under consideration between 2016 and December 2019. Keywords related to the main recommendations of international organisations regarding the regulation of food industry practices were used. Descriptive and content analysis of the bills were carried out.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of using ex vivo confocal microscopy in fusion mode (reflectance and fluorescence) and the H&E-like digital staining that is obtained for the analysis of non-neoplastic kidney biopsies.

It also focuses upon the needs of their families which is a wider scope of care. Cardiovascular disease, and specifically heart failure, affects millions of patients and family members who have a symptom burden that exceeds that of many cancers and other chronic diseases.

    Historically palliative care has been viewed as an alternative to curative therapies, but over time, it is now recognized that it should be implemented earlier in the course of chronic diseases. Although non-oncologic patients now comprise over half of the patient seen by palliative care, patients with cardiovascular disease are still not being referred to palliative care. Palliative care goes beyond advance directives and end of life planning. There is a need to continue to expand the view of palliative care to encompass interventions that help improve the overall health of these patients, including thases.

  • The adoption of a shortened school week from the traditional 5 to 4 days is increasing nationwide. Budgetary and staffing needs are driving the change, yet research on the effects on students is lacking, especially regarding student health. Our study examined student health in 4 vs 5-day schools in Colorado, a state with one of the highest numbers of schools with a 4-dayweek.

    Data are from a population-based survey of high-school students. Student responses were weighted to school enrollment, and schools were classified by length of the school week. Indicators of health behaviors and outcomes were compared between the two groups, adjusted for student and school characteristics.

    A 4-day school week was associated with several positive health outcomes (improved student engagement, decreased substance use behaviors, decreased non-school screen time, and increased physical activity) as well as several negative health outcomes (increased bullying, increased sexual activity, decreased sleep, and breakfast consumption).

    Our study found mixed health outcomes associated with attending schools with shortened weeks. The findings may be related to longer school days and a non-contact day, but further research is needed.

    Immunomodulatory strategies in heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) include the use of intravenous immune globulin (IVIG) and therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE). The optimal application of these therapies is unknown and outcomes data are limited. We investigated treatment categories and laboratory and clinical outcomes of IVIG and/or TPE in HIT with a systematic literature review.

    We searched MEDLINE, Embase, and Web of Science through December 2019 for studies combining controlled vocabulary and keywords related to thrombocytopenia, heparin, TPE, and IVIG. The primary outcome was treatment indication. Secondary outcomes were platelet recovery, HIT laboratory parameters, heparin re-exposure, and post-treatment course. Case-level data were analyzed by qualitative synthesis.

    After 4241 references were screened, we identified 60 studies with four main categories of IVIG and/or TPE use as follows (a) treatment of refractory HIT (n = 35; 31%); (b) initial therapy (n = 45; 40%); (c) cardiopulmonary bypass surgery (CPB; n = 30; 27%); and (d) other (n = 2; 2%). IVIG was most commonly used for the treatment of refractory HIT while TPE was primarily used to facilitate heparin exposure during CPB. Both IVIG and TPE were equally used as initial therapy. Heparin re-exposure occurred without thrombotic event in 29 TPE-treated patients and three IVIG-treated patients.

Different formulations of jam containing various combinations of pectin (0.5 to 5.0%), sugar (45 to 65%), and acid (0.5 to 1) were investigated for textural, rheological, and sensory properties of the pressure-processed jam. The textural parameters mainly hardness (varied 16 to 594 g force) of the jam samples were significantly (P 0.05) by the sensory panelist based on overall acceptability calculated from the scores obtained for sensory attributes viz. color, aroma, sweetness, sourness, texture, and spreadability. The inherited or externally added fiber can favor the reduction in sugar requirement of a food product particularly those processed by high pressure, leading to reduction in calories.     Methamphetamine (MA) is a widely used illicit drug and a nationwide public health concern. Although dental complications are consistently reported among MA users, yet limited nationally representative studies on the associations between MA use and oral health currently exist.

    Using the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2009-2014, we analyzed 8,762 respondents aged 30-64 years who had completed a periodontal examination. MA use was self-reported; periodontitis, untreated caries, and missing teeth were assessed by calibrated dentists. Descriptive statistics as well as multivariable regression analyses were performed. Data were weighted to yield representative estimates of the US adult population.

    The adoption of a shortened school week from the traditional 5 to 4 days is increasing nationwide. Budgetary and staffing needs are driving the change, yet research on the effects on students is lacking, especially regarding student health. Our study examined student health in 4 vs 5-day schools in Colorado, a state with one of the highest numbers of schools with a 4-dayweek. Data are from a population-based survey of high-school students. Student responses were weighted to school enrollment, and schools were classified by length of the school week. Indicators of health behaviors and outcomes were compared between the two groups, adjusted for student and school characteristics. A 4-day school week was associated with several positive health outcomes (improved student engagement, decreased substance use behaviors, decreased non-school screen time, and increased physical activity) as well as several negative health outcomes (increased bullying, increased sexual activity, decreased sleep, and breakfast consumption). Immunomodulatory strategies in heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) include the use of intravenous immune globulin (IVIG) and therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE). The optimal application of these therapies is unknown and outcomes data are limited. We investigated treatment categories and laboratory and clinical outcomes of IVIG and/or TPE in HIT with a systematic literature review. We searched MEDLINE, Embase, and Web of Science through December 2019 for studies combining controlled vocabulary and keywords related to thrombocytopenia, heparin, TPE, and IVIG. The primary outcome was treatment indication. Secondary outcomes were platelet recovery, HIT laboratory parameters, heparin re-exposure, and post-treatment course. Case-level data were analyzed by qualitative synthesis. After 4241 references were screened, we identified 60 studies with four main categories of IVIG and/or TPE use as follows (a) treatment of refractory HIT (n = 35; 31%); (b) initial therapy (n = 45; 40%); (c) cardiopulmonary bypass surgery (CPB; n = 30; 27%); and (d) other (n = 2; 2%). IVIG was most commonly used for the treatment of refractory HIT while TPE was primarily used to facilitate heparin exposure during CPB. Both IVIG and TPE were equally used as initial therapy. Heparin re-exposure occurred without thrombotic event in 29 TPE-treated patients and three IVIG-treated patients. Different formulations of jam containing various combinations of pectin (0.5 to 5.0%), sugar (45 to 65%), and acid (0.5 to 1) were investigated for textural, rheological, and sensory properties of the pressure-processed jam. The textural parameters mainly hardness (varied 16 to 594 g force) of the jam samples were significantly (P 0.05) by the sensory panelist based on overall acceptability calculated from the scores obtained for sensory attributes viz. color, aroma, sweetness, sourness, texture, and spreadability. Therefore, the jam formulation containing sapodilla pulp as a base material, TSS 45%, pectin 4.5%, and citric acid 0.5% was determined to be the preferred formulation for the production of reduced-calorie, pressure-processed jam based on its gel strength, overall acceptability, and storage stability. PRACTICAL APPLICATION High-fiber fruit was used for the development of a reduced-calorie high pressure processed jam in this study. Although dental complications are consistently reported among MA users, yet limited nationally representative studies on the associations between MA use and oral health currently exist. Using the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2009-2014, we analyzed 8,762 respondents aged 30-64 years who had completed a periodontal examination. MA use was self-reported; periodontitis, untreated caries, and missing teeth were assessed by calibrated dentists. Descriptive statistics as well as multivariable regression analyses were performed.   • We investigated the therapeutic potential of targeting integrin/FAK-dependent signaling, an adhesion receptor-mediated pathway that has been increasingly linked to non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) malignancy. These alterations appeared complementary, correlated with poor patient survival (p less then 0.0072), and were collaborative with KRAS mutation-coupled αv integrins (p less then 0.00159). Since integrin/FAK-dependent signaling is tightly coupled with normal human physiology, we sought to use a synthetic lethal-type targeting comprising of VS-6063, a chemical inhibitor of integrin-mediated FAK activity, and A549 cells, which carry a KRAS mutation and EGFR overexpression. Our screening analysis revealed that JQ1 and IBET-762, inhibitors of epis reminiscent of phenotype induced by malfunctional E-cadherin or integrins. Paradoxically, this phenotypic impact coincided with downregulation of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT)-inducting transcription factor ZEB1 or Snail. Finally, we showed that the effect of the VS-6063/JQ1 combination was nearly equivalent to that of VS-6063 plus Carboplatin or Osimertinib. In contrast, PtdEth externalization caused by depletion of the major PtdEth flippase TAT-5 or its activator PAD-1 disrupted phagocytosis. These data suggest that PtdSer and PtdEth externalization have opposite effects on phagocytosis. Twenty-four prognostic m6A-related lncRNAs were identified as prognostic lncRNAs and they were inputted in a least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) Cox regression to establish a m6A-related lncRNA prognostic signature (m6A-LPS, including 9 m6A-related prognostic lncRNAs) in the TCGA dataset. Corresponding risk scores of patients were calculated and divided LGG patients into low- and high-risk subgroups by the median value of risk scores in each dataset. The m6A-LPS was validated in the CGGA dataset and it showed a robust prognostic ability in the stratification analysis. Principal component analysis showed that the low- and high-risk subgroups had distinct m6A status. Enrichment analysis indicated that malignancy-associated biological processes, pathways and hallmarks were more common in the high-risk subgroup. Moreover, we constructed a nomogram (based on m6A-LPS, age and World Health Organization grade) that had a strong ability to forecast the overall survival (OS) of the LGG patients in both datasets.   • Vibrio parahaemolyticus can cause severe gastroenteritis, septicaemia and even death in humans. Continuous monitoring of V. parahaemolyticus contamination in aquatic products is imperative for ensuring food safety. In this study, we isolated and characterized 561 V. parahaemolyticus strains recovered from 23 species of commonly consumed shellfish, crustaceans, and fish collected in July and August of 2017 in Shanghai, China. The bacterium was not isolated from two fish species Carassius auratus and Parabramis pekinensis. The results revealed a very low occurrence of pathogenic V. parahaemolyticus carrying the toxin genes trh (0.2%) and tdh (0.0%). However, high percentages of resistance to the antimicrobial agents ampicillin (93.0%), rifampin (82.9%), streptomycin (75.4%) and kanamycin (50.1%) were found. A high incidence of tolerance to the heavy metals Hg2+ (74.7%) and Zn2+ (56.2%) was also observed in the isolates. ERIC-PCR-based fingerprinting of MDR isolates (77.5%) revealed 428 ERIC-genotypes, demonstrating remarkable genetic variation among the isolates. We investigated microplastics in the digestive system of wild cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis) as they are predators and prey and compared the stomach, caecum/intestine and digestive gland (DG) of wild and cultured animals, exposed to seawater from a comparable source. Fibers were the most common type (≈90% of total count) but were ≈2× higher in relation to body weight in wild vs. cultured animals. Fibers were transported to the DG where the count was ≈2× higher /g in wild (median 1.85 fibers/g) vs. cultured. In wild-caught animals the DG was the predominant location but in cultured animals the fibers were more evenly distributed in the digestive tract. The potential impact of microplastics on health of cuttlefish is discussed. This study aimed to identify and characterize pathogenic Vibrio parahaemolyticus in the coastal aquaculture farms of Kerala, India. Twenty-seven β-haemolytic V. parahaemolyticus were isolated from 7 out of 40 farms studied. Among the 27 isolates, 15 possessed the tdh gene and 4 had trh. ERIC PCR and PFGE illustrated the presence of pathogenic isolates that shared genetic similarity with clinical strains. One pathogenic isolate was identified to be multidrug resistant (MDR) and 59% exhibited a MAR index of 0.2 or above. Seventy four percent of the pathogenic isolates were ESBL producers and 3.7% of them were carbapenemase producers phenotypically. This asks for adoption of control measures during farming to prevent the transmission of pathogenic V. parahaemolyticus to the environment and food chain.Gulls are generalist seabirds, increasingly drawn to urban environments where many species take advantage of abundant food sources, such as landfill sites. Despite this, data on items ingested at these locations, including human refuse, is limited. Here we investigate ingestion of prey and anthropogenic debris items in boluses (regurgitated pellets) from Pacific Gulls (Larus pacificus). A total of 374 boluses were collected between 2018 and 2020 in Tasmania. Debris was present in 92.51% of boluses (n = 346), with plastic (86.63%, n = 324) and glass (64.71%, n = 242) being the most prominent types. An abundance of intact, household items (e.g., dental floss, food wrappers) suggest the gulls regularly feed at landfill sites. In addition, the boluses are deposited at a roosting site located within an important wetland, thus we propose that the gulls may be functioning as a previously unrecognised vector of anthropogenic debris from urban centres to aquatic environments.Degradation of bio-based (polylactic acid [PLA] cups, Mater-Bi® [MB] bags) and biodegradable plastics (biodegradable extruded polystyrene [bioPS] plates, biodegradable high density polyethylene [bioHDPE] bags) were compared to conventional plastics (recycled polyethylene terephthalate [rPET] cups, HDPE bags, extruded PS plates) in a salt marsh over a 32-week period. Following 4 weeks, biofilm developed on all plastics, resulting in an increased weight and concomitant decrease in UV transmission for most plastics. All plastics produced microplastic particles beginning at 4 weeks, with single-use bags producing the most microplastics over the 32-week period. At 32 weeks, SEM revealed microcracks and delamination for all plastics except PLA and MB, the latter of which degraded through embrittlement. IR spectral analysis indicated degradation for all plastics except PLA. Statistically significant difference in heavy metal concentration was observed between water, suspended particulate matter (SPM) and sediment. The Zn, Cd, Cu, Ni and Cr were 2-6 times higher in the SPM compared with the sediment, while Pb was 10 to 25 times higher. Although nearly 60% of the species diversity of microbiome was common between cyanobacteria enriched from the upstream (S1S) and downstream (S11B), there was a difference in the major groups of heterotrophic bacterial associates. Proteobacteria was the dominant phylum (>80%) in S1S, while it was second only (27.5%) after Planctomycetes (37.4%) in S11B. The results of the current study indicate that the pollution can influence an ecosystem at the micro-niche level.
    The association between school bullying and self-harm (SH) in adolescents has been extensively discussed. Nevertheless, little is known about the mechanism of this relationship, particularly the role of resilience. Our research aimed to explore and evaluate the potential moderation and mediation of resilience in the association between school bullying victimization and SH in a large sample of Chinese adolescents.

    We conducted a population-based cross-sectional survey of 3146 adolescents in southwest China. The data were collected by a self-administered questionnaire. Multivariate Logistic regression which incorporated the product term of bullying victimization and resilience was used to estimate the moderation of resilience. The results revealed a very low occurrence of pathogenic V. parahaemolyticus carrying the toxin genes trh (0.2%) and tdh (0.0%). However, high percentages of resistance to the antimicrobial agents ampicillin (93.0%), rifampin (82.9%), streptomycin (75.4%) and kanamycin (50.1%) were found. A high incidence of tolerance to the heavy metals Hg2+ (74.7%) and Zn2+ (56.2%) was also observed in the isolates. We investigated microplastics in the digestive system of wild cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis) as they are predators and prey and compared the stomach, caecum/intestine and digestive gland (DG) of wild and cultured animals, exposed to seawater from a comparable source. Fibers were the most common type (≈90% of total count) but were ≈2× higher in relation to body weight in wild vs. cultured animals. Fibers were transported to the DG where the count was ≈2× higher /g in wild (median 1.85 fibers/g) vs. cultured. In wild-caught animals the DG was the predominant location but in cultured animals the fibers were more evenly distributed in the digestive tract. The potential impact of microplastics on health of cuttlefish is discussed. This study aimed to identify and characterize pathogenic Vibrio parahaemolyticus in the coastal aquaculture farms of Kerala, India. Twenty-seven β-haemolytic V. parahaemolyticus were isolated from 7 out of 40 farms studied. Among the 27 isolates, 15 possessed the tdh gene and 4 had trh. ERIC PCR and PFGE illustrated the presence of pathogenic isolates that shared genetic similarity with clinical strains. One pathogenic isolate was identified to be multidrug resistant (MDR) and 59% exhibited a MAR index of 0.2 or above. Seventy four percent of the pathogenic isolates were ESBL producers and 3.7% of them were carbapenemase producers phenotypically. This asks for adoption of control measures during farming to prevent the transmission of pathogenic V. parahaemolyticus to the environment and food chain.Gulls are generalist seabirds, increasingly drawn to urban environments where many species take advantage of abundant food sources, such as landfill sites. Despite this, data on items ingested at these locations, including human refuse, is limited. Here we investigate ingestion of prey and anthropogenic debris items in boluses (regurgitated pellets) from Pacific Gulls (Larus pacificus). A total of 374 boluses were collected between 2018 and 2020 in Tasmania. Debris was present in 92.51% of boluses (n = 346), with plastic (86.63%, n = 324) and glass (64.71%, n = 242) being the most prominent types. An abundance of intact, household items (e.g., dental floss, food wrappers) suggest the gulls regularly feed at landfill sites. In addition, the boluses are deposited at a roosting site located within an important wetland, thus we propose that the gulls may be functioning as a previously unrecognised vector of anthropogenic debris from urban centres to aquatic environments.Degradation of bio-based (polylactic acid [PLA] cups, Mater-Bi® [MB] bags) and biodegradable plastics (biodegradable extruded polystyrene [bioPS] plates, biodegradable high density polyethylene [bioHDPE] bags) were compared to conventional plastics (recycled polyethylene terephthalate [rPET] cups, HDPE bags, extruded PS plates) in a salt marsh over a 32-week period. Following 4 weeks, biofilm developed on all plastics, resulting in an increased weight and concomitant decrease in UV transmission for most plastics. All plastics produced microplastic particles beginning at 4 weeks, with single-use bags producing the most microplastics over the 32-week period. At 32 weeks, SEM revealed microcracks and delamination for all plastics except PLA and MB, the latter of which degraded through embrittlement. IR spectral analysis indicated degradation for all plastics except PLA. Results suggest that degradation rates of bio-based and biodegradable plastics vary widely, with MB bags and bioPS plates demonstrating the greatest degradation, while PLA cups demonstrated the least degradation.The effect of heavy metal pollution on the microbiome of cyanobacteria in Cochin estuary (CE) on the southwest coast of India is reported in the study. Our research aimed to explore and evaluate the potential moderation and mediation of resilience in the association between school bullying victimization and SH in a large sample of Chinese adolescents. We conducted a population-based cross-sectional survey of 3146 adolescents in southwest China. The data were collected by a self-administered questionnaire. Multivariate Logistic regression which incorporated the product term of bullying victimization and resilience was used to estimate the moderation of resilience. Mediation of resilience in bullying victimization and SH were evaluated by path model.     Caffeine is a habit-forming substance consumed daily by the majority of pregnant women. Accordingly, it is important that women receive sound evidence-based advice about potential caffeine-related harm. This narrative review examines evidence of association between maternal caffeine consumption and negative pregnancy outcomes, and assesses whether current health advice concerning maternal caffeine consumption is soundly based.

    Database searches using terms linking caffeine and caffeinated beverages to pregnancy outcomes identified 1261 English language peer-reviewed articles. Screening yielded a total of 48 original observational studies and meta-analyses of maternal caffeine consumption published in the past two decades. The articles reported results for one or more of six major categories of negative pregnancy outcomes miscarriage, stillbirth, low birth weight and/or small for gestational age, preterm birth, childhood acute leukaemia, and childhood overweight and obesity.

    Of 42 separate sets of findinstudies and meta-analyses, there were frequent reports of significant dose-response associations suggestive of causation, and frequent reports of no threshold of consumption below which associations were absent. Consequently, current evidence does not support health advice that assumes 'moderate' caffeine consumption during pregnancy is safe.   • The order in which the particles visit the different patches can be altered by varying the sequence in which the reactants are added to the solution. By harnessing catalytic cascade reactions, where the product of one reaction is the reactant for the next, we achieve directed transport between the patches with the addition of just one reactant, which initiates the catalytic cascade. Through these studies, we show how the trajectory of the particles' motion among different "stations" can be readily regulated through intrinsic catalytic reactions and thus, provide guidelines for creating fluidic devices that perform multistep reactions in an autonomous, self-sustained manner.Quasiclassical trajectory calculations and vibrational-state-selected beam-surface measurements of CH4 chemisorption on Ir(111) reveal a nonthermal, hot-molecule mechanism for C-H bond activation. Low-energy vibrationally excited molecules become trapped in the physisorption well and react before vibrational and translational energies accommodate the surface. The reaction probability is strongly surface-temperature-dependent and arises from the pivotal role of Ir atom thermal motion. In reactive trajectories, the mean outward Ir atom displacement largely exceeds that of the transition-state geometry obtained through a full geometry optimization. The study also highlights a new way for (temporary) surface defects to impact high-temperature heterogeneous catalytic reactivity. Instead of reactants diffusing to and competing for geometrically localized lower barrier sites, transient, thermally activated surface atom displacements deliver low-barrier surface reaction geometries to the physisorbed reactants.Femtosecond X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) is a powerful method to investigate the dynamical behavior of a system after photoabsorption in real time. In the time domain, our measurements resolve the gradual appearance of absorption features below the carbon K-edge of ethanol and methanol during strong-field ionization and trace the valence-shell ionization dynamics of the liquid alcohols with a temporal resolution of ∼30 fs. Here we report a chemical modification strategy to transform thermal expansion from positive to negative in cubic magnetic compounds of (Zr,Nb)Fe2 by tuning the magnetic exchange interaction. Furthermore, an isotropic zero thermal expansion can be established in Zr0.8Nb0.2Fe2 (αl = 1.4 × 10-6 K-1, 3-470 K) over a broad temperature range that is even wider than that of the prototype Invar alloy of Fe0.64Ni0.36. Here we report a chemical modification strategy to transform thermal expansion from positive to negative in cubic magnetic compounds of (Zr,Nb)Fe2 by tuning the magnetic exchange interaction. Only 11 (10.5%) patients experienced a clinical relapse over a median duration of follow-up of 12.0 months (IQR 5.0-19.0) after IM discontinuation. The median baseline pediatric CD activity index in those with CD who relapsed after IM discontinuation was 47.5 (IQR 35.0-55.0) versus those who did not relapse (median 35.0, IQR 20.0-52.5; P = 0.04). Sclerotic skin manifestations are especially difficult to treat. We conducted a randomized phase 2 clinical trial (#NCT01688466) to determine the safety, efficacy, and preferred dose of pomalidomide in persons with moderate to severe cGVHD unresponsive to corticosteroids and/or subsequent lines of therapy. Thirty-four subjects were randomized to receive pomalidomide 0.5 mg per day orally (n = 17; low-dose cohort) or 2 mg per day at a starting dose of 0.5 mg per day increasing to 2 mg per day over 6 weeks (n = 17; high-dose cohort). The primary endpoint was overall response rate (ORR) at 6 months according to the 2005 National Institutes of Health cGVHD Response Criteria. Thirty-two patients had severe sclerotic skin and received a median of 5 (range, 2-10) previous systemic therapies. ORR was 47% (95% confidence interval, 30-65) in the intention-to-treat analyses. All were partial responses, with no difference in ORR between the cohorts. ORR was 67% (45%-84%) in the 24 evaluable subjects at 6 months. Nine had improvement in National Institutes of Health joint/fascia scores (P = .018). Median change from the baseline in body surface area involvement of skin cGVHD was -7.5% (-10% to 35%; P = .002). The most frequent adverse events were lymphopenia, infection, and fatigue. Eight subjects in the high-dose cohort had dose decreases because of adverse events. Furthermore, normalization to natural unmodified RNA and/or to synthetic in vitro transcripts allows absolute measurements of modification levels. HydraPsiSeq requires minute amounts of RNA (as low as 10-50 ng), making it compatible with high-throughput profiling of diverse biological and clinical samples. Exploring the potential of HydraPsiSeq, we profiled human rRNAs, revealing strong variations in pseudouridylation levels at ∼20-25 positions out of total 104 sites. We also observed the dynamics of rRNA pseudouridylation throughout chondrogenic differentiation of human bone marrow stem cells.     Processing raw reads of RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) data, no matter public or newly sequenced data, involves a lot of specialized tools and technical configurations that are often unfamiliar and time-consuming to learn for non-bioinformatics researchers. Here, we develop the R package BP4RNAseq, which integrates the state-of-art tools from both alignment-based and alignment-free quantification workflows. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/dexketoprofen-trometamol.html The BP4RNAseq package is a highly automated tool by using an optimized pipeline to improve the sensitivity and accuracy of RNA-seq analyses. It can take only two nontechnical parameters and output six formatted gene expression quantification at gene and transcript levels. The package applies to both retrospective and newly generated bulk RNA-seq data analyses and is also applicable for single-cell RNA-seq analyses.     The COVID-19 crisis has elicited a global response by the scientific community that has led to a burst of publications on the pathophysiology of the virus. However, without coordinated efforts to organize this knowledge, it can remain hidden away from individual research groups. By extracting and formalizing this knowledge in a structured and computable form, as in the form of a knowledge graph, researchers can readily reason and analyze this information on a **** larger scale. Here, we present the COVID-19 Knowledge Graph, an expansive cause-and-effect network constructed from scientific literature on the new coronavirus that aims to provide a comprehensive view of its pathophysiology. To make this resource available to the research community and facilitate its exploration and analysis, we also implemented a web application and released the KG in multiple standard formats.

Processing raw reads of RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) data, no matter public or newly sequenced data, involves a lot of specialized tools and technical configurations that are often unfamiliar and time-consuming to learn for non-bioinformatics researchers. Here, we develop the R package BP4RNAseq, which integrates the state-of-art tools from both alignment-based and alignment-free quantification workflows. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/dexketoprofen-trometamol.html The BP4RNAseq package is a highly automated tool by using an optimized pipeline to improve the sensitivity and accuracy of RNA-seq analyses. It can take only two nontechnical parameters and output six formatted gene expression quantification at gene and transcript levels. The package applies to both retrospective and newly generated bulk RNA-seq data analyses and is also applicable for single-cell RNA-seq analyses. The COVID-19 crisis has elicited a global response by the scientific community that has led to a burst of publications on the pathophysiology of the virus. However, without coordinated efforts to organize this knowledge, it can remain hidden away from individual research groups. By extracting and formalizing this knowledge in a structured and computable form, as in the form of a knowledge graph, researchers can readily reason and analyze this information on a much larger scale. Here, we present the COVID-19 Knowledge Graph, an expansive cause-and-effect network constructed from scientific literature on the new coronavirus that aims to provide a comprehensive view of its pathophysiology. To make this resource available to the research community and facilitate its exploration and analysis, we also implemented a web application and released the KG in multiple standard formats.   • This work experimentally investigates the impact of p-doping on the relative intensity noise (RIN) properties and subsequently on the modulation properties of semiconductor quantum dot (QD) lasers epitaxially grown on silicon. Owing to the low threading dislocation density and the p-modulation doped GaAs barrier layer in the active region, the RIN level is found very stable with temperature with a minimum value of -150dB/Hz. The dynamical features extracted from the RIN spectra show that p-doping between zero and 20 holes/dot strongly modifies the modulation properties and gain nonlinearities through increased internal losses in the active region and thereby hinders the maximum achievable bandwidth. Overall, this Letter is important for designing future high-speed and low-noise QD devices integrated in future photonic integrated circuits.A novel probabilistic shaping (PS) scheme based on the quasi-Maxwell-Boltzmann (quasi-MB) distribution model is proposed in order to solve the incompatibility between PS and carrier phase recovery (CPR) algorithms, such as blind phase search (BPS) and principal component-based phase estimation (PCPE). In the proposed quasi-MB model, the same occurrence probability is assigned to each constellation point on the same square-ring, rather than on the same circle. Signals obeying the quasi-MB model have superior CPR friendliness compared to traditional PS signals. For a PS 64 quadrature amplitude modulation system, the simulation results indicate up to 51% and 21% normalized generalized mutual information (NGMI) improvements for PCPE and BPS, respectively. Experimental verification of the proposed quasi-MB scheme was demonstrated in a 10 Gbaud coherent detection system. The results show that when the optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) is low, the quasi-MB model can help the BPS algorithm to achieve better NGMI performance and, when the OSNR is high, the proposed model can also solve the incompatibility between the PCPE algorithm and PS.An ultrathin metal film with high transmittance and conductivity has been demonstrated to be a promising transparent electrode for organic light-emitting devices (OLEDs). The resulting cavities have an internal round-trip loss of only 0.31% at a nanofiber waist radius of 207 nm, with a total finesse of 1380, and a maximum expected internal cooperativity of ∼1050 for a cesium atom on the nanofiber surface. Hence, reducing the antennas' dimensions without compromising on their scattering efficiency is of utmost importance. In this Letter, we show that nanoantennas carved from hybrid plasmonic-dielectric waveguides preserve the unique properties of the hybrid modes, showing stronger confinement and better tunability at a relatively low loss, emanating from the coupling between the dielectric and plasmonic modes. This enables a design of high performance ultrasmall antennas that outperform dielectric and plasmonic nanoantennas at similar dimensions. We demonstrate this capability by simulating the performance of metasurfaces made of ultrasmall hybrid nanoantennas, proven to be superior over their dielectric and plasmonic counterparts. Using such hybrid nanoantennas as unit-cells in metasurfaces holds a great promise for designing new tunable, multifunctional, and low-loss nano-optical materials and applications.In endoscopic optical coherence tomography, a transparent protective sheath is used to protect the optics and tissue. However, the sheath causes astigmatism, which degrades transverse resolution and signal-to-noise ratio due to the cylindrical lens effect. Generally used methods for correcting this astigmatism are complex, difficult to control precisely, high-cost, and increase the dimensions of the imaging probe. To overcome these problems, we have developed an astigmatism-corrected imaging probe with an epoxy window. The astigmatism is precisely and cost-effectively adjusted controlling the curvature radius of the epoxy window, which is produced by soft lithography. Using the fiber optic fusion splicing, the fabrication process is simple. The fabricated imaging probe is almost monolithic, so its diameter is similar to that of a standard single-mode fiber. We demonstrate its astigmatism-correcting performance using focal spot analysis, imaging micro-beads and a biological sample.Precision measurement of ro-vibrational transitions in the electronic ground state of the hydrogen molecule can be used to test quantum electrodynamics and also to determine the dimensionless proton-to-electron mass ratio. Saturation spectroscopy of the 2-0 overtone transitions of hydrogen deuterium (HD) were measured with three cavity-enhanced spectroscopy methods. With a sensitivity at the 10-13cm-1 level, we revealed a dispersion-like lineshape instead of a conventional Lamb "dip," which explains the significant discrepancy among previous independent measurements. The spectra can be fit well by using the Fano profile. Centers of R(1) and R(3) lines were determined as 217 105 182 111 (19) s t a t (240) s y s kHz and 220 704 305 234 (20) s t a t (240) s y s kHz, respectively.
