Therefore, the present study aimed to compare the results of saline-induced RFR (sRFR) with FFR. Methods Seventy consecutive lesions with only moderate stenosis were included. The FFR, RFR, and sRFR values were compared. The sRFR was assessed using an intracoronary bolus infusion of saline (2  mL/s) for five heartbeats. The FFR was obtained after an intravenous injection of papaverine. Results Overall, the FFR, sRFR, and RFR values were 0.78 ± 0.12, 0.79 ± 0.13, and 0.83 ± 0.14, respectively. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/1400w.html With regard to anatomical morphology were 40, 18, and 12 cases of focal, diffuse, and tandem lesion. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of NAFLD, as diagnosed by ultrasound, in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and to assess whether NAFLD is associated with the severity of coronary obstruction as diagnosed by coronary angiography. Methods We performed a prospective single-center study in patients hospitalized due to acute coronary syndrome who underwent diagnostic coronary angiography. Consecutive patients who presented to the emergency room were diagnosed with acute coronary syndrome and were included. All patients underwent ultrasonography of the upper abdomen to determine the presence or absence of NAFLD; NAFLD severity was graded from 0 to 3 based on a previously validated scale. All patients underwent diagnostic coronary angiography in the same hospital, with the same team of interventional cardiologists, who were blinded to the patients' clinical and ultrasonographic data. *** was then angiographically graded from none to severe based on well-established angiographic criteria. Results This study included 139 patients, of whom 83 (59.7%) were male, with a mean age of 59.7 years. Of the included patients, 107 (77%) patients had ***, 63 (45%) with serious injury. Regarding the presence of NAFLD, 76 (55.2%) had NAFLD including 18 (23.6%) with grade III disease. The study sought to determine the main controls of groundwater chemistry and its suitability for domestic and irrigation purposes in the district. Silicate and carbonate mineral weathering were identified as the main controls on groundwater chemistry in the district, with reverse ion exchange also playing a role. High nitrate and lead levels observed have been associated with agrochemicals and wastewater from farms and homes. Three main flow regimes have been identified with Q-mode cluster analysis, in which mixed cation water types have been revealed, where areas designated as recharge zones are dominated by Na+ + K+-Mg2+-HCO3 - fresh water types characterised by low mineralisation and pH, which evolve into Mg2+- Na+ + K+- HCO3 - fresh water type with corresponding increased mineralisation of the groundwater. Based on the water quality index (WQI) technique modified for the district and an interpolation technique using ordinary kriging developed from a well-fitted exponential semivariogram for the estimated WQIs, the groundwater quality has been spatially classified as generally 'good' to 'excellent' for domestic purposes. Generally, the quality of groundwater for domestic usage deteriorates as one moves towards the north of the district, whereas waters in the east and west present the best quality. Classifications based on the United States Salinity Laboratory (USSL), Wilcox, and Doneen diagrams suggest that groundwater from the unconfined aquifers of the district is of excellent quality for irrigation purposes. It relies on an analytical control of a "32-product" sample made of several types of e-cigarette liquids taken from various supermarkets and tobacconist's offices in Morocco. All along this study, we made sure to check both the conformity of the nicotine level indicated in the packaging of each product and the existence of any other components inside the product, especially toxic or unknown impurities. The method used for this study is known under the name of high-performance liquid chromatography. For statistical analysis, we used Student's t-test for a single sample in order to analyze the relative differences between nicotine quantity reported in the product and the one measured during our experiment. Finally, we used linear regression test to determine the relationship between the nicotine level accuracy on the packaging and the level of toxic impurities in the products. The differences between the nicotine concentrations reported in the packages and the measured ones varied from -100% to +3.

  • The band gaps are calculated to be 1.3 eV (at +0.2 V/Å), 0.8 eV (at +0.4 V/Å), 0.4 eV (at +0.6 V/Å). Interestingly, the band gap reaches 30 meV at +0.8 V/Å, and with increasr to +0.8 V/Å, a semiconductor-to-metal transition occurs. Furthermore, we investigated effects of semi- and full-hydrogenation of MoS2/C3N and we found that it leads to a metallic and semiconducting character, respectively. The approaches of strain, electric field and hydrogenation are an effective way to tune the band gap and transition of electronic states through band gap control which could lead to potential applications in future nanoelectronic devices. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd.Melanoma (MM) is a highly aggressive skin cancer with limited treatment options. Although chemotherapy has been using for advanced melanoma treatment, the lack of targetability, the poor biocompatibility and the severe side effects still hamper the wide applications of chemotherapy agents in MM management. Herein, a biocompatible and biodegradable polymeric hyaluronic acid nanoparticle (HANP) encapsulated with Paclitaxel (PTX) was developed for MM targeted therapy. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/wnk-in-11.html Our results showed that PTX at 37 ± 2.1% (w/w) was able to be loaded into HANP with over five days of stability under physiological conditions. In vitro, HANP/PTX presented hyaluronidase-dependent drug release. Compared to free PTX, HANP/PTX demonstrated a 6-75 times higher growth inhibition in five different cancer cells, while only presenting minimum toxicity to normal cells. After intravenous administration at a 10 mg/kg equivalent dose of PTX, HANP/PTX significantly ablated MM tumor growth in a mouse model. As confirmed by 18F-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) imaging, the tumors started to respond to the HANP/PTX as early as seven days after the initial treatment, which will significantly benefit for personalized treatment. The CNS were produced from exfoliated monolayer graphene deposited on a Si chip by applying a droplet of isopropyl alcohol (IPA) solution. The three types of CNS are classified as single-elliptical-core, double-elliptical-core (both with large internal volumes) and collapsed ribbon-like, based on AFM surface profile measurements. We discuss the structure and formation of CNS with **** larger hollow cores than is commonly assumed and relate this to the large effective 2D bending stiffness of graphene in the IPA solution. The large elliptical core structures show Raman spectra similar to those previously reported for CNS and indicate little interaction between the scrolled layers. The Raman spectra from ribbon-like structures show additional features that are similar to that of folded graphene. At P less then .05, family social-support was significantly associated with light (β = 0.94), moderate (β = 0.63), and vigorous (β = .74) leisure PA; with moderate (β = 0.46) and vigorous (β = 1.24) occupation PA; with light (β = 0.58) and moderate (β = 0.20) commute PA; and with domestic PA (β = 1.18). At P less then .05, social support from friends was significantly associated with light (β = 0.74), moderate (β = 0.58), and vigorous (β = .91) leisure PA; with moderate commute (β = 0.21); and with domestic PA (β = 0.82). CONCLUSION Interventions must emphasize self-efficacy-building strategies and the role of family support to meaningfully impact PA behaviors in this unique population.A successful pregnancy crucially depends on well-regulated extravillous trophoblast migration and invasion. Maternally expressed gene 3 (MEG3) is a long noncoding RNA that plays an important role in regulating trophoblast cell function. As previously reported, the expression of MEG3 was reduced in preeclampsia, and downregulation of MEG3 could suppress trophoblast cells migration and promote its apoptosis. However, the downstream regulatory mechanism of MEG3 remains unknown. As reported, MEG3 could inhibit cells proliferation in endometrial carcinoma by regulating Notch signaling. Our previous studies have demonstrated that Notch1 is downregulated in preeclampsia and that inhibiting the expression of Notch1 could promote trophoblast cell apoptosis. Therefore, this study was designed to investigate the role of MEG3 and its the relationship with Notch1 in trophoblasts. In this study, the mRNA expression levels of both MEG3 and Notch1 were decreased in preeclampsia placenta (n = 15) compared to the normal samples (n = 15). Exogenous upregulation and downregulation of MEG3 in HTR8/SVneo cells were performed to investigate the role of MEG3 in cell biological behavior and its effects on Notch1 expression. The results showed that MEG3 enhancement promoted trophoblast cell migration and invasion and inhibited cell apoptosis. Downregulation of MEG3 elicited the opposite results. Associated factors, such as matrix metalloproteinases 2 (MMP2), BAX, and Bcl-2, were examined at the mRNA and protein levels. Our study demonstrated that MEG3 could regulate Notch1 expression to modulate trophoblast cell migration, invasion, and apoptosis. which may represent the molecular mechanism of poor placentation during preeclampsia.

  • We also use experimental auction bids to estimate the price elasticity of demand for e-cigarettes, finding that a 10% increase in price results in a 5.6% reduction in quantity demanded. This suggests e-cigarette demand is less price sensitive than some earlier studies have found. While a tax on e-cigarettes can still be an effective tool for reducing e-cigarette demand, the reduction in demand may be smaller than some earlier studies would suggest. The effectiveness of tube and sonotrode reactors for the sonication of sewage sludge under identical conditions was compared for the first time. Despite the considerable structural differences, sonication with each ultrasonic reactor led to an accelerated degradation rate and an increased methane production within the first five days for the majority of the sewage sludge samples tested. On closer examination, however, it becomes clear that the investigated sonication systems are not equally suitable for the substrates considered. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/ono-7475.html While the use of a sonotrode proved to be particularly advantageous for the treatment of waste activated sludge (+25% methane yield at 300 kJ/kgTS), the use of a 2-inch tube reactor achieved the highest enhancement for low-intensity sonication in digested sludge (+22% methane yield at 300 kJ/kgTS). Sonication of waste activated sludge led to a significant reduction in viscosity of up to 50%, and a reduction of up to 60% was observed after sonication of digested sludge with low energy inputs. The study, therefore, demonstrates that the choice of the most suitable sonication system essentially depends on the properties of the sludge to be sonicated. We report a new soft template method for the synthesis of unique polyaniline (PANI) films with microporous structures. In this process, ultrasonication is used to foam an electrolyte solution containing a surfactant, which is subsequently employed as a soft template for PANI growth via the electrochemical polymerization of aniline. Analysis by scanning electron microscopy demonstrates that the resulting PANI films contain numerous micropores. These microporous PANI films exhibit faster charging (doping) and discharging (dedoping) current responses compared to ordinary flat films of the same material. In paper production industry, microbial contaminations of process waters are common and can cause damage to paper products and equipment as well as the occurrence of pathogens in the end products. Chlorine omission has led to the usage of costly reagents and products of lower mechanical quality. In this study, we have tested a rotation generator equipped with two sets of rotor and stator assemblies to generate developed cavitation (unsteady cloud shedding with pressure pulsations) or supercavitation (a steady cavity in chocked cavitation conditions) for the destruction of a persistent bacteria Bacillus subtilis. Our results showed that only supercavitation was effective and was further employed for the treatment of waters isolated from an enclosed water recycle system in a paper producing plant. The water quality was monitored and assessed according to the chemical (COD, redox potential and dissolved oxygen), physical (settleable solids, insolubles and colour intensity) and biological methods (yeasts, aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, bacterial spores and moulds). After one hour of treatment, a strong 4 logs reduction was achieved for the anaerobic sulphate reducing bacteria and for the yeasts; a 3 logs reduction for the aerobic bacteria; and a 1.3 logs reduction for the heat resistant bacterial spores. A 22% reduction in COD and an increase in the redox potential (37%) were observed. Sediments were reduced by 50% and the insoluble particles by 67%. For bacterial destruction in real industrial process waters, the rotation generator of supercavitation spent 4 times less electrical energy in comparison to the previously published cavitation treatments inside the Venturi constriction design. These tensions experienced by employment support professionals is an area that is currently under researched and needs further exploration. METHOD In-depth interviews and focus group sessions were conducted with employment support professionals (n = 34) from a variety of organizations in two Canadian provinces. Theoretical sampling was used to recruit study participants. Data were thematically analysed, informed by a grounded theory approach. RESULTS Four main themes emerged (i) Hire for capabilities, not pity, (ii) The bottom line profit versus moral code, (iii) Education and concerns about accommodations and costs, and (iv) Pros and cons of incentives.
    We also use experimental auction bids to estimate the price elasticity of demand for e-cigarettes, finding that a 10% increase in price results in a 5.6% reduction in quantity demanded. This suggests e-cigarette demand is less price sensitive than some earlier studies have found. While a tax on e-cigarettes can still be an effective tool for reducing e-cigarette demand, the reduction in demand may be smaller than some earlier studies would suggest. The effectiveness of tube and sonotrode reactors for the sonication of sewage sludge under identical conditions was compared for the first time. Despite the considerable structural differences, sonication with each ultrasonic reactor led to an accelerated degradation rate and an increased methane production within the first five days for the majority of the sewage sludge samples tested. The data on NP are scant from developing world and we aimed to describe the characteristic features of NP in our children. Study design Single center retrospective cohort analysis. Patient selection Institutional database of children treated for pneumonia between September 2014 and May 2018 was searched to identify children with NP. Methods The demographic characteristics, laboratory results, and clinical information were recorded for patients selected as NP and analyzed. Results In total, 10 patients (3.7%) of NP were identified out of 272 patients with pneumonia. Median age was 3 years (range 3 months to 12years). All cases had severe respiratory distress and 70% required mechanical ventilation and inotropic support. The causative pathogens were identified in 6/10 children (60%) with Staphylococcus aureus being most common (4/10). Pleural effusion and pneumothorax were seen in six cases. Four cases had bilateral pleural effusion and three had bilateral pneumothorax. Intercostal drainage (ICD) was placed in 70% and bilateral ICD was placed in 40% cases. Bronchopleural fistula (BPF) developed in two cases and one had bilateral BPF. Median [inter quartile range] ICD days and hospital stay were 9 (6-14) and 13.5 (7.5-18.5) days, respectively. Mean (±SD) total antibiotic (in hospital plus outpatient) days were 28.8 ± 9.6 days. Four cases had airway hemorrhage and in three cases this was massive and fatal. Conclusion NP is a relatively rare but severe complication of pneumonia distinct from pediatric acute respiratory distress, pleural effusion and empyema. Methods This study used data on 8162 adults >50 years old in the Republic of Ireland to model associations between estimated annual outdoor concentration of NO2 and the probability of having asthma. Individual-level geo-coded survey data from The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA) were linked to model-based estimates of annual average NO2 at 50 m resolution. Asthma was identified using two methods self-reported diagnoses and respondents' use of medications related to obstructive airway diseases. Logistic regressions were used to model the relationships. Results NO2 concentrations were positively associated with the probability of asthma [marginal effect (ME) per 1 ppb of airborne NO2 = 0.24 percentage points asthma self-report, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.06-0.42, mean asthma prevalence 0.09; for use of relevant medications ME = 0.21 percentage points, 95% CI 0.049-0.37, mean prevalence 0.069]. Results were robust to varying model specification and time period. Respondents in the top fifth percentile of NO2 exposure had a larger effect size but also greater standard error (ME = 2.4 percentage points asthma self-report, 95% CI -0. 49 to 5.3). Conclusions Associations between local air pollution and asthma among older adults were found at relatively low concentrations.   • BACKGROUND Critical care risk scores can stratify mortality risk among cardiac intensive care unit (CICU) patients, yet risk score performance across common CICU admission diagnoses remains uncertain. METHODS We evaluated performance of the Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE)-III, APACHE-IV, Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) and Oxford Acute Severity of Illness Score (OASIS) scores at the time of CICU admission in common CICU admission diagnoses. Using a database of 9,898 unique CICU patients admitted between 2007 and 2015, we compared the discrimination (c-statistic) and calibration (Hosmer-Lemeshow statistic) of each risk score in patients with selected admission diagnoses. RESULTS Overall hospital mortality was 9.2%. The 3182 (32%) patients with a critical care diagnosis such as cardiac arrest, shock, respiratory failure, or sepsis accounted for >85% of all hospital deaths. Mortality discrimination by each risk score was comparable in each admission diagnosis (c-statistic 95% CI values were generally overlapping for all scores), although calibration was variable and best with APACHE-III. The c-statistic values for each score were 0.85-0.86 among patients with acute coronary syndromes, and 0.76-0.79 among patients with heart failure. Discrimination for each risk score was lower in patients with critical care diagnoses (c-statistic range 0.68-0.78) compared to non-critical cardiac diagnoses (c-statistic range 0.76-0.86). CONCLUSIONS The tested risk scores demonstrated inconsistent performance for mortality risk stratification across admission diagnoses in this CICU population, emphasizing the need to develop improved tools for mortality risk prediction among critically-ill CICU patients. OBJECTIVE To study the prevalence and clinical characteristics of Somatic Symptom Disorder (SSD), Bodily Distress Syndrome (BDS) and fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) and their overlap in the general German population. METHODS A cross-sectional nationally representative population survey was performed. 2531 participants (mean age 48.8 ± 17.85 years, 53.3% women) completed the Somatic Symptom Scale SSS-8, the Bodily Distress Syndrome (BDS) 25 checklist, the Whiteley Index 7 (WI-7), the self-administered comorbidity questionnaire and the Michigan Body Map. Case definitions of SSD, BDS and FMS were assigned using established criteria. RESULTS 4.5% of participants met the criteria of SSD (SSS - 8 at least one item "bothered very ****" and WI- 7 total score ≥ 1). 9.6% met the criteria of single-organ BDS and 1.3% of multi-organ BDS. Prevalence of FMS according to 2016 criteria was 3.4%. 82.3% of FMS cases met any BDS criteria.28.1% of FMS cases satisfied SSD criteria. 28.8% of any BDS cases met the criteria of SSD. 75.1% of SSD cases met the criteria of any BDS. FMS cases reported the highest amount of somatic and psychological symptom burden and health anxieties. There were no differences in age and gender between any BDS and SSD cases. SSD cases reported worse general health and more fibromyalgia-related variables than any BDS cases. CONCLUSIONS In the general population, there is a substantial overlap between FMS and BDS, but not of FMS and SSD, and not of SSD and any BDS. Case definitions of the three disorders partially captured different groups in the general population. However, effects of attentional focus instructions on skill performance and acquisition in children are equivocal. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of attentional focus instructions on performance of a whole body coordination task in children with and without developmental coordination disorder (DCD). METHODS Children with DCD (n = 18) and typically developing (TD) children (n = 21) (9-10 years) were asked to perform 3 countermovement vertical jumps in the IFA (Concentrate on the swing of your arms), EFA (Concentrate on getting as close to the ceiling as possible), and control conditions. RESULTS The results showed that regardless of children's motor development proficiency, the jump height and vertical take-off velocity (VTO) were higher in EFA relative to both IFA and Con conditions. In addition, VTO was significantly higher in the Con relative to IFA condition. CONCLUSION The results of the current study showed that EFA relative to IFA instructions could enhance the neuromuscular activation of dynamic contractions of the leg muscles in both children with and without DCD. The findings suggest that the beneficial effects of EFA relative to IFA instructions on children's motor performance is identical across children with different levels of motor proficiency. In this paper, we report a new type of 3D ZIF-8@NiAl-LDHs micro-flowers material consisting of sandwich-like structured 2D nanopetals (highly compact ZIF-8 film anchored on both sides of petals).     BACKGROUND Critical care risk scores can stratify mortality risk among cardiac intensive care unit (CICU) patients, yet risk score performance across common CICU admission diagnoses remains uncertain. METHODS We evaluated performance of the Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE)-III, APACHE-IV, Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) and Oxford Acute Severity of Illness Score (OASIS) scores at the time of CICU admission in common CICU admission diagnoses. Using a database of 9,898 unique CICU patients admitted between 2007 and 2015, we compared the discrimination (c-statistic) and calibration (Hosmer-Lemeshow statistic) of each risk score in patients with selected admission diagnoses. RESULTS Overall hospital mortality was 9.2%. The 3182 (32%) patients with a critical care diagnosis such as cardiac arrest, shock, respiratory failure, or sepsis accounted for >85% of all hospital deaths. Mortality discrimination by each risk score was comparable in each admission diagnosis (c-statistic 95% CI values were generally overlapping for all scores), although calibration was variable and best with APACHE-III. The c-statistic values for each score were 0.85-0.86 among patients with acute coronary syndromes, and 0.76-0.79 among patients with heart failure. Discrimination for each risk score was lower in patients with critical care diagnoses (c-statistic range 0.68-0.78) compared to non-critical cardiac diagnoses (c-statistic range 0.76-0.86). CONCLUSIONS The tested risk scores demonstrated inconsistent performance for mortality risk stratification across admission diagnoses in this CICU population, emphasizing the need to develop improved tools for mortality risk prediction among critically-ill CICU patients. OBJECTIVE To study the prevalence and clinical characteristics of Somatic Symptom Disorder (SSD), Bodily Distress Syndrome (BDS) and fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) and their overlap in the general German population. METHODS A cross-sectional nationally representative population survey was performed. 2531 participants (mean age 48.8 ± 17.85 years, 53.3% women) completed the Somatic Symptom Scale SSS-8, the Bodily Distress Syndrome (BDS) 25 checklist, the Whiteley Index 7 (WI-7), the self-administered comorbidity questionnaire and the Michigan Body Map. Case definitions of SSD, BDS and FMS were assigned using established criteria. RESULTS 4.5% of participants met the criteria of SSD (SSS - 8 at least one item "bothered very much" and WI- 7 total score ≥ 1). 9.6% met the criteria of single-organ BDS and 1.3% of multi-organ BDS. Prevalence of FMS according to 2016 criteria was 3.4%. 82.3% of FMS cases met any BDS criteria.28.1% of FMS cases satisfied SSD criteria. 28.8% of any BDS cases met the criteria of SSD. 75.1% of SSD cases met the criteria of any BDS. FMS cases reported the highest amount of somatic and psychological symptom burden and health anxieties. There were no differences in age and gender between any BDS and SSD cases. SSD cases reported worse general health and more fibromyalgia-related variables than any BDS cases. CONCLUSIONS In the general population, there is a substantial overlap between FMS and BDS, but not of FMS and SSD, and not of SSD and any BDS. Case definitions of the three disorders partially captured different groups in the general population. BACKGROUND AND AIM Previous studies have supported the advantages of an external focus of attention (EFA) relative to an internal focus of attention (IFA) in healthly adults. However, effects of attentional focus instructions on skill performance and acquisition in children are equivocal. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of attentional focus instructions on performance of a whole body coordination task in children with and without developmental coordination disorder (DCD). METHODS Children with DCD (n = 18) and typically developing (TD) children (n = 21) (9-10 years) were asked to perform 3 countermovement vertical jumps in the IFA (Concentrate on the swing of your arms), EFA (Concentrate on getting as close to the ceiling as possible), and control conditions. RESULTS The results showed that regardless of children's motor development proficiency, the jump height and vertical take-off velocity (VTO) were higher in EFA relative to both IFA and Con conditions. In addition, VTO was significantly higher in the Con relative to IFA condition. CONCLUSION The results of the current study showed that EFA relative to IFA instructions could enhance the neuromuscular activation of dynamic contractions of the leg muscles in both children with and without DCD. The findings suggest that the beneficial effects of EFA relative to IFA instructions on children's motor performance is identical across children with different levels of motor proficiency. In this paper, we report a new type of 3D ZIF-8@NiAl-LDHs micro-flowers material consisting of sandwich-like structured 2D nanopetals (highly compact ZIF-8 film anchored on both sides of petals).   • Aim To assess the influence of artefacts generated by metal posts on the detection of simulated internal root resorption (IRR) in adjacent teeth using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), as well as to verify the impact of metal artefact reduction (MAR) on these cases. Methodology CBCT images of 14 premolar teeth were acquired before and after IRR simulation using chemical and mechanical procedures, in an OP300 Maxio unit, with and without MAR. Each tooth was placed in the socket of a human mandible and scanned under three different conditions 1, without adjacent teeth - control group; 2, distal adjacent tooth restored with metal post; and 3, with both adjacent teeth restored with metal post. Five oral radiologists scored the IRR detection using a 5-point scale. Diagnostic values were obtained for the tested groups and compared using two-way analysis of variance (α=0.05). Results The presence of a single adjacent tooth restored with metal post did not significantly influence the diagnostic values for IRR detection (p>0.05). The presence of both adjacent teeth with metal posts, without MAR application, were associated with a significantly lower area under the ROC curve (Az) compared to the control (p=0.0182). In this case, the application of MAR increased Az, leading to non-significant differences from the control group and the group with one adjacent restored tooth (p>0.05). Sensitivity decreased significantly when two adjacent restored teeth were present, regardless of MAR application (p=0.0379). Specificity was not affected by the conditions tested (p>0.05). Conclusion CBCT detection of internal root resorption was impaired by artefacts only when both adjacent teeth restored with metal posts were present. Plasma EDN1 levels are positively correlated with the clinical severity and itch intensity of AD. Therefore, we hypothesized that the inhibition of EDN1 might be useful for treating atopic inflammation and itch and investigated the effects of the topical application of the EDN1 receptor antagonist bosentan on the skin inflammation and itch in a murine AD model. Methods We analyzed the mite-induced AD-like NC/Nga murine model, which was topically applied with bosentan or ethanol control every day for 3 weeks. We also subjected in vitro primary sensory neuron culture systems to nerve elongation and branching assays after EDN1 stimulation. Results Topical application of bosentan significantly attenuated the development of mite-induced AD-like skin inflammation, dermatitis scores, ear thickness, scratching bouts, and serum level of thymus and activation-regulated chemokine in NC/Nga ****. Bosentan application also significantly reduced the gene expression of Il13, Il17, and Ifng in the treated lesions. Histologically, the number of infiltrated dermal cells, the epidermal EDN1 expression, and the number of intraepidermal nerve fibers were significantly inhibited upon bosentan application. While EDN1 significantly elongated the neurites of dorsal root ganglion cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner, bosentan treatment attenuated this. Conclusions EDN1 plays a significant role in mite-induced inflammation and itch. To confirm the degradation and consequent deactivation of β2-m under acidic conditions, we used matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) to detect the levels and forms of β2-m in the urine samples of patients with high proteinuria (n = 21) and healthy subjects (n = 6). β2-m was purified in crude form using immunoprecipitation. A signal of 11.74 kDa, corresponding to the molecular weight of β2-m, was detected in all samples. In addition, several high-molecular-weight proteins were detected in a patient as integrals of the intensity at 11.74 kDa. These results indicate that post-translational modifications of β2-m might be involved in the pathological process of proteinuria. A combined effect due to the glycated Hb and OS may explain what was observed in diabetic erythrocytes, while in in vitro hyperglycemia, early OS could explain B3p anion exchange capability alterations as proven by the use of melatonin. Finally, measurement of B3p anion exchange capability is a suitable tool to monitor the impact of hyperglycemia on erythrocytes homeostasis, being the first line of high glucose impact before Hb glycation. Melatonin may be useful to counteract hyperglycemia-induced OS at the B3p level.Ti-Al thin films with a thickness of 200 nm were prepared either by co-sputtering from elemental Ti and Al targets or as Ti/Al multilayers with 10 and 20 nm individual layer thickness on thermally oxidized Si substrates. Some of the films were covered with a 20-nm-thick SiO 2 layer, which was used as an oxidation protection against the ambient atmosphere. The films were annealed at up to 800 ∘ C in high vacuum for 10 h, and the phase formation as well as the film architecture was analyzed by X-ray diffraction, cross section, and transmission electron microscopy, as well as Auger electron and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The results reveal that the co-sputtered films remained amorphous after annealing at 600 ∘ C independent on the presence of the SiO 2 cover layer. In contrast to this, the γ -TiAl phase was formed in the multilayer films at this temperature. After annealing at 800 ∘ C, all films were degraded completely despite the presence of the cover layer. Examination of the microstructure of the Fe40Al5Cr0.2TiB alloy after casting and after plastic working was performed on an Olympus GX51 light microscope. The stereological relationships of the alloy microstructure in the state after crystallization and after plastic working were determined. It was found that as-cast alloy is the most resistant to corrosion in a 5% NaCl compared with the alloys after hot extrusion and after hot rolling. The parameters in this study show the smallest value of the corrosion current density and corrosion rate as well as the more positive value of corrosion potential.The study presents experimental results of an investigation on a novel shear connection system for hybrid bridge girders composed of laminated composite beams and concrete slabs. The special connector comprised of a steel plate and welded bolts is attached to beam's top flange by adhesive bonding and with a preset torque of nuts. The study's purpose is to check ductility, safety, reliability and robustness of the shear connection before its implementation in the first Polish composite bridge. Three static push-out tests and fatigue test were performed to evaluate the shear connection behavior under static and cyclic loading. The load-slip curves, shear capacity, fatigue strength and failure mechanisms of the novel shear connectors are discussed. The high-slip modulus indicates that the connectors can very efficiently promote the composite action. The ultimate resistance and the fatigue strength obtained from the test was about 12% and 66% higher than the characteristic resistance and the fatigue strength of common headed studs, according to Eurocode 4, respectively.

A combined effect due to the glycated Hb and OS may explain what was observed in diabetic erythrocytes, while in in vitro hyperglycemia, early OS could explain B3p anion exchange capability alterations as proven by the use of melatonin. Finally, measurement of B3p anion exchange capability is a suitable tool to monitor the impact of hyperglycemia on erythrocytes homeostasis, being the first line of high glucose impact before Hb glycation. Melatonin may be useful to counteract hyperglycemia-induced OS at the B3p level.Ti-Al thin films with a thickness of 200 nm were prepared either by co-sputtering from elemental Ti and Al targets or as Ti/Al multilayers with 10 and 20 nm individual layer thickness on thermally oxidized Si substrates. Some of the films were covered with a 20-nm-thick SiO 2 layer, which was used as an oxidation protection against the ambient atmosphere. The films were annealed at up to 800 ∘ C in high vacuum for 10 h, and the phase formation as well as the film architecture was analyzed by X-ray diffraction, cross section, and transmission electron microscopy, as well as Auger electron and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The results reveal that the co-sputtered films remained amorphous after annealing at 600 ∘ C independent on the presence of the SiO 2 cover layer. In contrast to this, the γ -TiAl phase was formed in the multilayer films at this temperature. After annealing at 800 ∘ C, all films were degraded completely despite the presence of the cover layer. In addition, a strong chemical reaction between the Ti and SiO 2 of the cover layer and the substrate took place, resulting in the formation of Ti silicide. In the multilayer samples, this reaction already started at 600 ∘ C.The paper presents the results of tests on the corrosion resistance of Fe40Al5Cr0.2TiB alloy after casting, plastic working using extrusion and rolling methods. Examination of the microstructure of the Fe40Al5Cr0.2TiB alloy after casting and after plastic working was performed on an Olympus GX51 light microscope. The stereological relationships of the alloy microstructure in the state after crystallization and after plastic working were determined. The quantitative analysis of the structure was conducted after testing with the EBSD INCA HKL detector and the Nordlys II analysis system (Channel 5), which was equipped with the Hitachi S-3400N microscope. Structure tests and corrosion tests were performed on tests cut perpendicular to the ingot axis, extrusion direction, and rolling direction. As a result of the tests, it was found that the crystallized alloy has better corrosion resistance than plastically processed material. Plastic working increases the intensity of the electrochemical corrosion of the examined alloy. It was found that as-cast alloy is the most resistant to corrosion in a 5% NaCl compared with the alloys after hot extrusion and after hot rolling. The parameters in this study show the smallest value of the corrosion current density and corrosion rate as well as the more positive value of corrosion potential.The study presents experimental results of an investigation on a novel shear connection system for hybrid bridge girders composed of laminated composite beams and concrete slabs. The special connector comprised of a steel plate and welded bolts is attached to beam's top flange by adhesive bonding and with a preset torque of nuts. The study's purpose is to check ductility, safety, reliability and robustness of the shear connection before its implementation in the first Polish composite bridge. Three static push-out tests and fatigue test were performed to evaluate the shear connection behavior under static and cyclic loading. The load-slip curves, shear capacity, fatigue strength and failure mechanisms of the novel shear connectors are discussed. The high-slip modulus indicates that the connectors can very efficiently promote the composite action. The ultimate resistance and the fatigue strength obtained from the test was about 12% and 66% higher than the characteristic resistance and the fatigue strength of common headed studs, according to Eurocode 4, respectively.

  • Fungus-cultivating termites are successful herbivores largely rely on the external symbiotic fungus-combs to decompose plant polysaccharides. The comb harbors both fungi and bacteria. However, the complementary roles and functions of the bacteria are out of the box. To this purpose, we look into different decomposition stages of fungus-combs using high-throughput sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene to examine bacterial community structure. We also explored the bacterial response to physicochemical indexes (such as moisture, ash content and organic matter) and plant substrates (leaves or branches or mix food). Some specific families such as Lachnospiraceae, Ruminococcaceae, and Peptostreptococcaceae may be involved in lignocellulose degradation, whereas Burkholderiaceae may be associated with aromatic compounds degradation. We observed that as the comb mature there is a shift of community composition which may be an adjustment of specific bacteria to deal with different lignocellulosic material. Our results indicated that threshold amount of physicochemical indexes are beneficial for bacterial diversity but too high moisture, low organic matter and high ash content may reduce their diversity. Furthermore, the average highest bacterial diversity was recorded from the comb built by branches followed by mix food and leaves. Besides, this study could help in the use of bacteria from the comb of fungus-cultivating termites in forestry and agricultural residues making them easier to digest as fodder.MOTIVATION Cellular identity and behavior is controlled by complex gene regulatory networks. Transcription factors (TFs) bind to specific DNA sequences to regulate the transcription of their target genes. On the basis of these TF motifs in cis-regulatory elements we can model the influence of TFs on gene expression. In such models of TF motif activity the data is usually modeled assuming a linear relationship between the motif activity and the gene expression level. A commonly used method to model motif influence is based on Ridge Regression. One important assumption of linear regression is the independence between samples. However, if samples are generated from the same cell line, tissue, or other biological source, this assumption may be invalid. This same assumption of independence is also applied to different yet similar experimental conditions, which may also be inappropriate. In theory, the independence assumption between samples could lead to loss in signal detection. We explored the relationship between BMRT HR-HPV viral load and cervical lesions, determined alternative CIN2+ cut-points by ROC curve, and evaluated BMRT HR-HPV for primary / secondary cervical cancer screening. RESULTS The viral loads of HPV16/18, 12 other subtypes HR-HPV and 14 HR-HPV were statistically different in all grades of cervical lesions (P0.05). However, the BMRT HR-HPV viral load combined with subtypes did not require cytology. We hypothesize that the application of different combinations of preprocessing methods can improve TC results. Therefore, we performed an extensive and systematic set of TC experiments (and this is our main research contribution) to explore the impact of all possible combinations of five/six basic preprocessing methods on four benchmark text corpora (and not samples of them) using three ML methods and training and test sets. The general conclusion (at least for the datasets verified) is that it is always advisable to perform an extensive onversion into lowercase letters. In general, for all the datasets processed, there was always at least one combination of basic preprocessing methods that could be recommended to improve the accuracy results when using a bag-of-words representation.Electrical defibrillation is a well-established treatment for cardiac dysrhythmias. Studies have suggested that shock-induced spatial sawtooth patterns and virtual electrodes are responsible for defibrillation efficacy. We hypothesize that high-frequency shocks enhance defibrillation efficacy by generating temporal sawtooth patterns and using rapid virtual electrodes synchronized with shock frequency. High-speed optical mapping was performed on isolated rat hearts at 2000 frames/s. Two defibrillation electrodes were placed on opposite sides of the ventricles. An S1-S2 pacing protocol was used to induce ventricular tachyarrhythmia (VTA). High-frequency shocks of equal energy but varying frequencies of 125-1000 Hz were used to evaluate VTA vulnerability and defibrillation success rate. The 1000-Hz shock had the highest VTA induction rate in the shorter S1-S2 intervals (50 and 100 ms) and the highest VTA defibrillation rate (70%) among all frequencies. Temporal sawtooth patterns and synchronous shock-induced virtual electrode responses could be observed with frequencies of up to 1000 Hz. The improved defibrillation outcome with high-frequency shocks suggests a lower energy requirement than that of low-frequency shocks for successful ventricular defibrillation.

  • We can suggest that EDCs cause more dramatic changes in both testicular structure and cell death when there is combined exposure.Microbial activities and community structures play crucial roles in the soil environment and can be served as effective indicators to assess the ecological influence of heavy metal pollution in soil. This article selected soil samples from five land use types (mining area, mineral processing area, heap mining area, tailing area, and vegetable area) in the Shizishan mining area in Tongling, Anhui Province, China. The physicochemical properties, pollution characteristics, enzyme activities (catalase, urease, alkaline phosphatase, neutral phosphatase, cellulase, and sucrase), microbial biomass carbon (MBC), basal respiration (SBR), and metabolic entropy (qCO2) in soil were determined and compared, and the relationship between environmental factors and the microbial activities and community diversity was analyzed. The results showed that, according to the Nemerow's Pollution Index (PN), the values were the heap mining area (24.47) > mineral processing area (12.55) > mining area (9.81) > tailings area (6.02) > vegetable area (4.51). With the increase of heavy metal contamination in the sampling area, the six enzyme activities, ****and SBR decreased, but the qCO2 increased. Principal coordinate analysis (PCoA) and canonical correlation analysis (CCA) showed that the land use types, soil moisture content (**), heavy metal content, pH, MBC, SBR, and qCO2 were significantly affected by the microbial community. The most dominant phyla were Proteobacteria (34.73%), Bacteroidetes (9.25%), Acidobacteria (8.99%), and Chloroflexi (8.68%) at the phylum (0.01) level by a total of 18 phyla. It was also found that Firmicutes and Phormidium were more tolerant to heavy metals. These results contributed to an insight into key environmental variables shaping the microbial activities, community structure, and diversity under various land use types in mining area.Slope aspect is an important topographic factor for a micro-ecosystem environment that may affect macro- and micronutrients in plants and soil. Such materials can be synthesized quickly with high efficiency by using different synthesis processes. Moreover, their properties' tunability is appreciated in various industrial processes. Regarding physical and structural properties, such materials can be applied in environmental applications such as the adsorption of atmospheric and aqueous pollutants, hydrogen production, or the formation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF). After the first part that was dedicated to the synthesis processes of hydrotalcites, the present review reports on specific environmental applications chosen as examples in various fields (green chemistry and depollution) that have gained increasing interest in the last decades, enlightening the links between structural properties, synthesis route, and application using lamellar materials.In this investigation, batch and column experiments were conducted to investigate the molybdenum (Mo) sorption and transport processes on a neutral-pH soil (Webster loam) and an acidic soil (Mahan sand) in Ca2+ and K+ background solutions. Batch results showed that the adsorption of Mo was strongly non-linear in both soils and amount of Mo sorbed in the acidic soil was larger than the neutral soil. The Freundlich distribution coefficients (Kf) and Langmuir sorption maxima (Smax) in Ca2+ background solution are larger than that in K+ solution, indicating greater Mo sorption in Ca2+ than in K+. Experimental breakthrough curves (****) demonstrated that mobility of Mo was higher at neutral condition than that at acidic condition. A multi-reaction transport model (MRTM) formulation with two kinetic retention reactions (reversible and irreversible) well described Mo transport for Webster soil. However, MRTM model which accounts for equilibrium and kinetic sites is recommended for Mo transport in Mahan soil, reflecting different soil properties. Based on inverse modeling, the sorption forward rate coefficients (k1) obtained from Ca2+ in both soils are larger than that from K+, which consistent with batch experiment.
