The utility of MEWS and MEWS-A were retrospectively evaluated and compared for identifying trauma severity in adult multiple trauma patients admitted to the emergency department.

    We included 1,230 eligible multiple trauma patients and divided them into minor and severe trauma groups based on the injury severity score. Results of logistic regression and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analyses showed that the MEWS-A had a higher area under the ROC curve (AUC 0.81 95% CI [0.78-0.83]) than did the MEWS (AUC 0.77 95% CI [0.74-0.79]), indicating that the MEWS-A is superior to the MEWS in identifying severe trauma. The optimal MEWS-A cut-off score is 4, with a specificity of 0.93 and a sensitivity of 0.54. MEWS-A ≥4 can be used as a protocol for decision-making in the emergency department.

Hence, the objective of the present study is to investigate the influences of HH on human postural stability during dynamic perturbations, perceived stability, and functional mobility between inexperienced and experienced HHS wearers.

The present study examined the extent to which school burnout symptoms (i.e., exhaustion and cynicism) among upper secondary education students have their roots in primary and lower secondary school and whether early antecedents of school burnout symptoms could be identified. The sample consisted of 1544 Finnish students followed up four times (Time1-Time 4) from the end of primary school (T1; mean age 12.74 and range 11.71-14.20) to the first year of upper secondary education (T4; mean age 16.66 and range 15.55-18.39). The results of latent growth curve modeling showed that school burnout symptoms in upper secondary education were predicted by the level of school burnout symptoms at the end of primary school and by an increase in these symptoms across the transition from primary school through lower secondary school. In addition, psychological well-being, academic skills, and gender were found to contribute to the prediction of school burnout symptoms. Overall, the present study suggest that potential warning signs of school burnout should not be ignored and attention should be directed to earlier education phases.The association between late-life depression (LLD) and age-related hearing loss (ARHL) was suggested by preliminary studies, but reliance on LLD subtypes may introduce significant bias. We investigated the association between ARHL and LLD diagnosed according to the Semi-structured Clinical Diagnostic Interview for DSM-IV-TR in 1749 Italian community-dwelling older subjects from the population-based GreatAGE Study, Southern Italy. Peripheral ARHL was assessed as a pure tone average (PTA) threshold > 40 dB hearing level in the better ear- and age-related CAPD as a score of less then  50% to the Synthetic Sentences Identification with Ipsilateral Competitive Message (SSI-ICM) test. LLD amounted at 10.29% of the sample, subdivided in LOD (6.21%) and EOD (4.08%). Age-related CAPD tended to be higher in LOD (28.91%) than in EOD (19.05%). After accounting for covariates, LOD was tendentially associated to age-related CAPD, but not to peripheral ARHL. This trend was confirmed by the linear models in which LOD was significantly associated to worsen SSI-ICM percentages (odds ratio 2.38, 95% confidence interval 1.32-4.30, p = 0.004), but not to PTA values. In a fully adjusted model of LOD, the effect of the association between CAPD and LOD was explained by social dysfunction. LLD was not associated to peripheral ARHL. Age-related CAPD was associated to LOD, a form of depression with cognitive dysfunction hallmark. Proximate composition and nutritional quality of foods (breakfast diets, traditional foods, snacks and instant noodles) fortified, enriched and complemented with AYB were discussed. A total of 344 Ecuadorians were surveyed according to the following criteria 1) had made at least one purchase through their mobile device in the last month and, 2) belonged to the low and medium-low socioeconomic segment of the selected country. The results showed that facilitating conditions, hedonic motivation, habit, and perceived trust significantly and positively predict the intention to use m-commerce. The best predictor was facilitating conditions followed by perceived trust. Contrary to expectations, performance expectancy, social influence, and perceived security did not significantly affect low-income consumers' intention to use m-commerce. This study produced diverging results in significant constructs used to validate the UTAUT2, highlighting the need to examine this model in different countries further. The relationships of the core constructs of UTAUT2 vary according to the country studied, possibly due to differences in national culture and economic development that could moderate the impact of explanatory constructs of technology adoption.This paper considers a non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) multi-user relay system where both source and relay harvest the energy from a power beacon (PB) equipped with multiple antennas and use this harvested energy to transmit signals to several users. Moreover, the optimal time switching ratio that maximizes the throughput is smaller than the optimal time switching ratio that minimizes the outage probability.
    Mental imagery (MI) has been described as the "ability to simulate in the mind information that is not currently being perceived by the sense organs" (Moran, 2012, p. 166). The vividness of mental imagery has been defined as the clarity, brightness, or intensity of an image as reported by the individual (Marks, 1973). There are many studies conducted on vividness in typically developing (TD) individuals, however, no attempt has been made either to assess the vividness of mental imagery in people with intellectual disability (ID) or compare it with that of typically developing (TD) adults.

    A vividness of imagery test (comprising a modified version of the Vividness of Visual Imagery Questionnaire 2, (VVIQ-2; Marks, 1995), and two items of the Age Projection Test, (APT; Ahsen, 1988) were administered to participants with mild, moderate, and severe ID. This study preliminarily assesses the association between admission features of extra-cranial injury burden on cerebrovascular reactivity. Using the Collaborative European Neurotrauma Effectiveness Research in TBI High-Resolution ICU (HR ICU) sub-study cohort, we evaluated those patients with both archived high-frequency digital intra-parenchymal intra-cranial pressure monitoring data of a minimum of 6 h in duration, and the presence of a digital copy of their admission computed tomography (CT) scan. Digital physiologic signals were processed for pressure reactivity index (PRx) and both the percent time above defined PRx thresholds and mean hourly dose above threshold. This was conducted for both the first 72 h and entire duration of recording. Admission extra-cranial injury characteristics and CT injury scores were obtained from the database, with quantitativegnificantly associated with mean PRx values above +0.25 and +0.35, respectively. Markers of extra-cranial injury burden and systemic injury response do not appear to be strongly associated with impaired cerebrovascular reactivity in TBI during both the initial and entire ICU stay.Concussion imaging research has primarily focused on neuronal disruption with lesser emphasis directed toward vascular dysfunction. CVR metrics, including speed and magnitude of flow responses to a standardized well-controlled vasoactive stimulus, are potentially useful for assessing individual subjects following concussion given that blood flow dysregulation is known to occur with traumatic brain injury. We assessed changes in CVR metrics to a standardized vasodilatory stimulus during the acute phase of concussion. Using a case control design, 20 concussed participants and 20 healthy controls (HCs) underwent CVR assessment measuring blood oxygen-level dependent (BOLD) magnetic resonance imaging using precise changes in end-tidal partial pressure of CO2 (PETCO2). Metrics were calculated for the whole brain, gray matter (GM), and white matter (WM) using sex-stratification. A leave-one-out receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis classified concussed from HCs based on CVR metrics. CVR magnitude was greater and speed of response faster in concussed participants relative to HCs, with WM showing higher classification accuracy compared with GM.     Ginsenoside Rb1, the main active ingredient of ginseng, exhibits
    depression of store-operated calcium entry (SOCE) and related vasoconstriction in pulmonary arteries derived from pulmonary hypertension (PH) rats. However, the
    effects of ginsenoside Rb1 on PH remain unclear.

    This study explored the possibility of using ginsenoside Rb1 as an
    preventive medication for type I PH, i.e., pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), and potential mechanisms involving SOCE.

    Male Sprague-Dawley rats (170-180 g) were randomly divided into Control, MCT, and MCT + Rb1 groups (
     = 20). Control rats received only saline injection. Rats in the MCT + Rb1 and MCT groups were intraperitoneally administered single doses of 50 mg/kg monocrotaline (MCT) combined with 30 mg/kg/day ginsenoside Rb1 or equivalent volumes of saline for 21 consecutive days. Subsequently, comprehensive parameters related to SOCE, vascular tone, histological changes and hemodynamics were measured.

    Ginsenoside Rb1 reduced MCT-induced STIM1, TRPC1, and TRPC4 expression by 35.00, 31.96, and 32.24%, respectively, at the protein level. SOCE-related calcium entry and pulmonary artery contraction decreased by 162.6 nM and 71.72%. The mean pulmonary artery pressure, right ventricle systolic pressure, and right ventricular mass index decreased by 19.5 mmHg, 21.6 mmHg, and 39.50%. The wall thickness/radius ratios decreased by 14.67 and 17.65%, and the lumen area/total area ratios increased by 18.55 and 15.60% in intrapulmonary vessels with 51-100 and 101-150 μm o.d.

Furthermore, existing literature provides evidence that children's mental health can be affected by their mother's mental health well past infancy and early childhood. Given this, children of IPV victims are particularly at risk of developing depression symptoms. Guided by trauma theory, the ecobiodevelopmental (EBD) framework, and social learning theory, this study investigates the long-term relationship between maternal IPV victimization during pregnancy and teen depression symptoms. This study utilizes longitudinal data from the Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing Study to examine the relationship between IPV during pregnancy and maternal depression symptoms at early childhood, as well as the mechanism by which maternal depression symptoms affect child depression symptoms in the adolescent stage of development. The findings indicate that mothers who were victims of IPV during pregnancy were more likely to have depression symptoms when children turned 3 and that maternal depression symptoms could directly predict children's depression symptoms at age 15.

A prospective study was carried out to find rare causes of USNHL in adults. In this manuscript, we present a case series of 7 rare etiologies of USNHL in adults like auditory neuropathy, chemoradiotherapy, dialysis-induced SNHL, common cavity inner ear malformation, multiple sclerosis, acute otitis media-induced SNHL and vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia. This study discusses the rare possible etiologies of USNHL that can be easily missed if these are not ruled out properly. We present these cases to consider these heterogeneous and distinct causes of USNHL because of rarity of these etiologies. If such an etiology is diagnosed in time, they may be managed effectively.
    To find a better screening test by correlating between history and video-laryngoscopy in patients with laryngopharyngeal reflux disease. To compare the Reflux Symptom Index (RSI) and the Reflux Finding Score (RFS).

    Patients with the signs and symptoms of LPRD were scored based on RSI. Those with RSI above 13 were included in study and evaluated further by videolaryngoscopy examination and rated according to RFS. The correlation between RSI and RFS was analysed.

    Out of the 107 patients included in study 55% were females. Among these patients positive RFS score (i.e. > 7) was seen in 58.3%. The average RSI was 18.22, and average RFS was 7.45. According to RSI the most common symptom was heartburn/indigestion (44.5%) and from RFS the most common finding was posterior commissure hypertrophy (95%). Correlation between RSI and total RFS was found to be 0.184 with a
    value of 0.159 which was not significant.

    LPRD is more common in females and in the middle age group. A correlation of RSI and RFS was not found to be significant suggesting that both should be used for diagnosis of LPRD instead of relying on only one. RFS and RSI are easy, quick and out patient based screening tools and when used together can be more reliable for LPRD diagnosis.

Due to the abundance of peripheral, cranial and autonomic nerves in this region, schwannomas can present in variety of locations, posing a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge to the surgeon. Unusual sites in head and neck region can have varied presentation depending on the site of origin. We identified unusual extracranial locations of head and neck schwannomas, their presenting features and surgical management. Retrospective review of cases of extracranial head and neck schwannomas operated in the Department of Otolaryngology and Head-Neck Surgery, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New *****, a tertiary referral centre between July 2015 and June 2019. A total of 42 cases of extracranial head and neck schwannomas were operated. Among them, 9 cases were found to arise from uncommon sites, such as parotid gland (n = 1), infratemporal fossa (n = 2), external auditory canal (n = 1), subglottis (n = 1), false vocal cord (n = 1), frontal recess (n = 1), maxillary sinus (n = 1) and retromolar trigone (n = 1). All patients underwent excision via relevant approaches. Nerve of origin was identified in 4/9 cases. One case had postoperative neurological deficit. No recurrences were noted in mean follow-up of 19 months. Schwannomas ought to be considered as a differential diagnosis for swellings/ mass in any part of head and neck region. Comprehensive evaluation with appropriate imaging and histology should be done in all cases. Preoperative counselling and consent regarding neurological deficit pertaining to possible nerve of origin is required in each case.Due to close anatomical relationship of eye with nose and sinuses it is liable to get involved secondary to sinonasal and nasopharyngeal pathology. Sinonasal and nasopharyngeal pathology may present with varied ophthalmic manifestations. Ocular involvement from sinonasal diseases occur due to direct spread to orbit, venous spread due to valveless nature of veins, cranial nerve involvement, nasolacrimal apparatus involvement and intracranial spread. The present study is to determine the sociodemographics, ocular manifestations due to sinonasal and nasopharyngeal pathology, etiological factors and routes of spread. This study discusses the rare possible etiologies of USNHL that can be easily missed if these are not ruled out properly. We present these cases to consider these heterogeneous and distinct causes of USNHL because of rarity of these etiologies. If such an etiology is diagnosed in time, they may be managed effectively. To find a better screening test by correlating between history and video-laryngoscopy in patients with laryngopharyngeal reflux disease. To compare the Reflux Symptom Index (RSI) and the Reflux Finding Score (RFS). Patients with the signs and symptoms of LPRD were scored based on RSI. Those with RSI above 13 were included in study and evaluated further by videolaryngoscopy examination and rated according to RFS. The correlation between RSI and RFS was analysed. Out of the 107 patients included in study 55% were females. Among these patients positive RFS score (i.e. > 7) was seen in 58.3%. The average RSI was 18.22, and average RFS was 7.45. According to RSI the most common symptom was heartburn/indigestion (44.5%) and from RFS the most common finding was posterior commissure hypertrophy (95%). Correlation between RSI and total RFS was found to be 0.184 with a value of 0.159 which was not significant. LPRD is more common in females and in the middle age group. A correlation of RSI and RFS was not found to be significant suggesting that both should be used for diagnosis of LPRD instead of relying on only one. We identified unusual extracranial locations of head and neck schwannomas, their presenting features and surgical management. Retrospective review of cases of extracranial head and neck schwannomas operated in the Department of Otolaryngology and Head-Neck Surgery, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, a tertiary referral centre between July 2015 and June 2019. A total of 42 cases of extracranial head and neck schwannomas were operated. Among them, 9 cases were found to arise from uncommon sites, such as parotid gland (n = 1), infratemporal fossa (n = 2), external auditory canal (n = 1), subglottis (n = 1), false vocal cord (n = 1), frontal recess (n = 1), maxillary sinus (n = 1) and retromolar trigone (n = 1). All patients underwent excision via relevant approaches. Nerve of origin was identified in 4/9 cases. One case had postoperative neurological deficit. No recurrences were noted in mean follow-up of 19 months. Schwannomas ought to be considered as a differential diagnosis for swellings/ mass in any part of head and neck region. Comprehensive evaluation with appropriate imaging and histology should be done in all cases. We observed that H3K56 acetylation dramatically shortens the pause duration of Pol II near the entry region of the nucleosome, while Nap1 induces no noticeable difference. We also found that the elongation rate of Pol II through the nucleosome is unaffected by the acetylation or Nap1. These results indicate that H3K56 acetylation facilitates Pol II translocation through the nucleosome by assisting paused Pol II to resume and that Nap1 does not affect Pol II progression.     We conducted a single-center, retrospective cohort study of consecutive hospitalized severe and critically ill COVID-19 patients with or without liver injury who underwent immunologic testing (IL-6, IL-8, TNF-α, and IL-1ß). Liver injury was defined as peak aminotransferases ≥3x ULN (40 U/L) or ≥120 U/L. Patients with liver injury were compared to those who had normal aminotransferases throughout the hospital course.

    176 patients were studied; 109 with liver injury and 67 controls. Patients with liver injury were more likely to be male (71.6% vs 37.3%;

In a subset of patients, CSF SARS-CoV-2 quantitative reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) testing is performed.

    The average age of 27 patients who underwent LP with definitive SARS-CoV-2 (SD) was 37.5 (28.7) years. CSF profiles showed elevated white blood cell counts and protein in 44% and 52% of patients, respectively. LP results impacted treatment decisions in 10 (37%) patients, either by change of antibiotics, influence in disposition decision, or by providing an alternative diagnosis. CSF SARS-CoV-2 qRT-PCR was performed on 8 (30%) patients, with negative results in all samples.

However, the mechanism behind liver injury, particularly in severe and critical COVID-19 patients, remains unclear and the clinical course is poorly described. We conducted a single-center, retrospective cohort study of consecutive hospitalized severe and critically ill COVID-19 patients with or without liver injury who underwent immunologic testing (IL-6, IL-8, TNF-α, and IL-1ß). Liver injury was defined as peak aminotransferases ≥3x ULN (40 U/L) or ≥120 U/L. Patients with liver injury were compared to those who had normal aminotransferases throughout the hospital course. 176 patients were studied; 109 with liver injury and 67 controls. Patients with liver injury were more likely to be male (71.6% vs 37.3%; < 0.001). Peak inflammatory markers and IL-6 were higher in the liver injury group CRP 247 vs 168 mg/L, < 0.001; LDH 706 vs 421 U/L, ferritin 2,973 vs 751 ng/mL, < 0.001, IL-6 121.0 vs 71.8, < 0.001. There was no difference in the levels of IL-8, TNF-α, and IL-1ß. The liver injury group had a longer length of stay and more severe COVID-19 despite having less diabetes and chronic kidney disease. An exaggerated hyper inflammatory response (cytokine storm) characterized by significantly elevated CRP, LDH, ferritin, and IL-6 levels and increasing severity of COVID-19 appears to be associated with the occurrence of liver injury in patients with severe/ critical COVID-19. This study evaluated HCWs' knowledge, attitude, and practice towards COVID-19 in Nigeria. we carried out a cross-sectional survey among HCWs during the COVID-19 outbreak in Nigeria from March to June 2020. The study assessed 346 HCWs for Knowledge, attitude, and practice by using an online (Google form) self-administered questionnaire, based on a convinience sampling technique Data were retrieved and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Chi-Square and one-way ANOVA were used to measure association and difference among demographic variables. The relationship between knowledge, attitude, and practice was measured using Spearman's rho correlation test. the mean knowledge score of the HCWs was 7.1 on a scale of 0-8. The correct overall rate of the knowledge questionnaire was 88.75%.nacceptable practices were observed. We recommend continuous public health education of HCWs on SARS-COV-2 infection control and prevention. our results showed that HCWs in Nigeria had excellent knowledge and possessed a positive attitude and good practice towards COVID-19. However; there were areas where poor knowledge, negative attitudes and unacceptable practices were observed. In this case series, we review patients diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 undergoing lumbar puncture (LP) admitted to Columbia University Irving Medical Center (New York, NY, USA) from March 1 to May 26, 2020. In a subset of patients, CSF SARS-CoV-2 quantitative reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) testing is performed. The average age of 27 patients who underwent LP with definitive SARS-CoV-2 (SD) was 37.5 (28.7) years. CSF profiles showed elevated white blood cell counts and protein in 44% and 52% of patients, respectively. LP results impacted treatment decisions in 10 (37%) patients, either by change of antibiotics, influence in disposition decision, or by providing an alternative diagnosis.     Some patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection rapidly develop to critical condition. Here, we investigated the clinical features of critically ill SARS-CoV-2 patients with and without diabetes and identified risk factors for death of these patients.

    The medical records including epidemiological, demographic, clinical, and laboratory data from 49 critically ill SARS-CoV-2 patients were collected and analyzed in Huanggang City and Xiaogan City, Hubei Province, outside Wuhan.

    Sixty-seven percent (33) of patients survived and 33% (16) of patients died in 49 critically ill patients (32 men, 17 women), with a median age of 63years (IQR 53-73). Univariate analyses indicated that the deceased patients were more often associated with two or more comorbidities, one or more gastrointestinal symptoms, high neutrophil percentage, low lymphocytes and lymphocyte percentage, high C-reactive protein, high procalcitonin, high fasting blood glucose (FBG), and high lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) compared with the survivors; moreover, the patients with T2DM had the higher neutrophil percentage, the lower lymphocyte percentage, and the higher levels of FBG and LDH compared with the patients without T2DM. Multivariable logistic regression analyses indicated that gastrointestinal symptoms (≥ 1 symptoms), decreased lymphocytes (< 1.1 × 10
    /L), and increased FBG (≥ 7.0mmol/L) were the independent risk factors for death of critically ill patients.

    Critically ill COVID patients with T2DM had more severe damages of the lymphocytes, islet cells, and heart function, and gastrointestinal symptoms, lymphopenia, and increased FBG may be early predictors for poor prognosis.

The space magnetization is justified by the coexistence of up to six disconnected attractors including both chaotic and periodic. The linear augmentation method is successfully applied to control the multistable HNNs into a monostable network. The control of the coexisting four attractors including a pair of chaotic attractors and a pair of periodic attractors is made through three crises that enable the chaotic attractors to be metamorphosed in a monostable periodic attractor. Also, the control of six coexisting attractors (with two pairs of chaotic attractors and a pair of periodic one) is made through five crises enabling all the chaotic attractors to be metamorphosed in a monostable periodic attractor. Note that this controlled HNN is obtained for higher values of the coupling strength. These interesting results are obtained using nonlinear analysis tools such as the phase portraits, bifurcations diagrams, graph of maximum Lyapunov exponent, and basins of attraction. The obtained results have been perfectly supported using the PSPICE simulation environment. Finally, a simple encryption scheme is designed jointly using the sequences of the proposed HNNs and the sequences of real/imaginary values of the Julia fractals set. The obtained cryptosystem is validated using some well-known metrics. The proposed method achieved entropy of 7.9992, NPCR of 99.6299, and encryption time of 0.21 for the 256*256 sample 1 image.Till August 17, 2020, COVID-19 has caused 21.59 million confirmed cases in more than 227 countries and territories, and 26 naval ships. Chest CT is an effective way to detect COVID-19. This study proposed a novel deep learning model that can diagnose COVID-19 on chest CT more accurately and swiftly. Based on traditional deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) model, we proposed three improvements (i) We introduced stochastic pooling to replace average pooling and max pooling; (ii) We combined conv layer with batch normalization layer and obtained the conv block (CB); (iii) We combined dropout layer with fully connected layer and obtained the fully connected block (FCB). Our algorithm achieved a sensitivity of 93.28% ± 1.50%, a specificity of 94.00% ± 1.56%, and an accuracy of 93.64% ± 1.42%, in identifying COVID-19 from normal subjects. We proved using stochastic pooling yields better performance than average pooling and max pooling. We compared different structure configurations and proved our 3CB + 2FCB yields the best performance. The proposed model is effective in detecting COVID-19 based on chest CT images.

  • Phyto-thermotherapy is a treatment consisting in immersing oneself in baths of self-heating alpine grass, to benefit of the heat and rich aromatic components released by the process. The aim of this study was to characterize the bacterial and fungal diversity of three phyto-thermal baths (PTB) performed in three different months, and to compare the data with the profile of the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) of the process. All the data collected showed that PTBs were structured in two stages the first three days were characterised by an exponential rise of the temperature, a fast bacterial development, higher microbial diversity and higher concentrations of plant aliphatic hydrocarbons. The second stage was characterised by a stable high temperature, shrinkage of the microbial diversity with a predominance of few bacterial and fungi species and higher concentrations of volatiles of microbial origin. Erwinia was the dominant microbial species during the first stage and probably responsible of the self-heating process. In conclusion, PTBs has shown both similarities with common self-heating processes and important peculiarities such as the absence of pathogenic bacteria and the dominance of plant terpenoids with health characteristics among the VOCs confirming the evidence of beneficial effects in particular in the first three days.In long-term individual-based field studies, several parameters need to be assessed repeatedly to fully understand the potential fitness effects on individuals. Often studies only evaluate capture stress that appears in the immediate weeks or breeding season and even long-term studies fail to evaluate the long-term effects of their capture procedures. We investigated effects of long-term repeated capture and handling of individuals in a large semi-aquatic rodent using more than 20 years of monitoring data from a ****** population in Norway. To investigate the effects, we corrected for ecological factors and analysed the importance of total capture and handling events, years of monitoring and deployment of telemetry devices on measures related to body condition, reproduction and survival of individual beavers. Body mass of dominant individuals decreased considerably with number of capture events (107 g per capture), but we found no statistically clear short or long-term effects of capture and handling on survival or other body condition indices. Annual litter size decreased with increasing number of captures among older individuals. Number of captures furthermore negatively affected reproduction in the beginning of the monitoring, but the effect decreased over the years, indicating habituation to repeated capture and handling. By assessing potential impacts on several fitness-related parameters at multiple times, we can secure the welfare of wild animal populations when planning and executing future conservation studies as well as ensure ecologically reliable research data.The best known thermoelectric material for near room temperature heat-to-electricity conversion is bismuth telluride. Here, we develop a method to directly measure the thermoelectric properties of electrodeposited bismuth telluride thin films, grown on indium tin oxide. Using this technique, the temperature dependent thermoelectric properties (Seebeck coefficient and electrical conductivity) of electrodeposited thin films have been measured down to 100 K. A parallel resistor model is employed to discern the signal of the film from the signal of the seed layer and the data are carefully analysed and contextualized with literature. Our findings make a significant step forward in understanding the chemosensory abilities of D. gallinae.The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of concurrent diagnoses of asthma/COPD and examine its full spectrum of comorbid disorders in Germany. We used nationwide outpatient claims data comprising diagnoses of all statutory health insurees (40+ years) in 2017 (N = 40,477,745). The ICD-10 codes J44 (COPD) and J45 (asthma) were used to identify patients. The odds of 1,060 comorbid disorders were examined in a case-control study design. Of all insurees, 4,632,295 (11%) were diagnosed with either asthma or COPD. Of them, 43% had asthma only, 44% COPD only and 13% both diseases. The prevalence of concurrent asthma/COPD was 1.5% with a slightly higher estimate among females than males (1.6% vs. 1.4%) and constant increase by age in both sexes. Comorbid disorders were very common among these patients. 31 disorders were associated with a strong effect size (odds ratio > 10), including other respiratory diseases, but also bacterial (e.g., mycobacteria, including tuberculosis) and fungal infections (e.g., sporotrichosis and aspergillosis).

Our findings make a significant step forward in understanding the chemosensory abilities of D. gallinae.The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of concurrent diagnoses of asthma/COPD and examine its full spectrum of comorbid disorders in Germany. We used nationwide outpatient claims data comprising diagnoses of all statutory health insurees (40+ years) in 2017 (N = 40,477,745). The ICD-10 codes J44 (COPD) and J45 (asthma) were used to identify patients. The odds of 1,060 comorbid disorders were examined in a case-control study design. Of all insurees, 4,632,295 (11%) were diagnosed with either asthma or COPD. Of them, 43% had asthma only, 44% COPD only and 13% both diseases. The prevalence of concurrent asthma/COPD was 1.5% with a slightly higher estimate among females than males (1.6% vs. 1.4%) and constant increase by age in both sexes. Comorbid disorders were very common among these patients. 31 disorders were associated with a strong effect size (odds ratio > 10), including other respiratory diseases, but also bacterial (e.g., mycobacteria, including tuberculosis) and fungal infections (e.g., sporotrichosis and aspergillosis).
