    To compare primiparous women's childbirth knowledge and their satisfaction with the childbirth preparation classes between regular and irregular attenders.

    A cross-sectional study.

    This study was conducted on 136 primiparous pregnant women attending health centres in Tabriz, Iran. Women's knowledge on childbirth and their satisfaction with childbirth preparation classes were measured by using reliable tools via interviews. An independent t test was applied to compare women's knowledge and satisfaction scores between regular and irregular attenders.

    The mean score of knowledge was significantly higher among women who were regular attenders compared to irregular attenders (p<.001). Although there were no significant differences in total satisfaction score between the women (p=.342), women with regular attendance reported that childbirth preparation classes reduced their anxiety about labour.

    To describe the etiology of rosacea with an emphasis on the role of UV radiation and exposome, and to review the importance of non-pharmacologic strategies focusing on photoprotection.

    We conducted a narrative review of the literature. We performed literature searches with PubMed from January 1990 to November 2020 using the keywords "rosacea", "pathogenesis", "ultraviolet radiation", "exposome", "photoprotection", "sunscreens" and "non-pharmacologic agents". The search was limited to English, Spanish, and French language articles.

    Several environmental factors such as UV light, diverse microorganisms, air pollution, tobacco smoking, nutrition, and psychological stress showed to trigger or worsen rosacea. UV radiation was reported to induce pro-inflammatory, pro-angiogenic, and pro-fibrotic responses.

The detection limit is 0.2 nM over a wide range, between 1 nM and 10 µM, of cortisol concentrations in physiological fluid, with negligible drift over time and high selectivity. S. aureus was tested against tetracycline, erthromycin, vancomycin, penicillin, oxacillin and cefoxitin. There were no significant differences in the E. coli antibiotic resistance profiles between the meat and fecal samples (except towards ceftazidime where 5% of the meat isolates were resistant and 0% of the fecal isolates). The S. aureus meat isolates showed high (75%) resistance towards penicillin and on average, 13% were resistant to oxacillin/ cefoxitin, indicating methicillin resistance. The results from this study indicate that there is incidence of antibiotic resistant bacteria from the feces and meat of wildlife species across South Africa, suggesting that cross contamination of the meat occurred during slaughter by antibiotic resistant bacteria from the abattoir personnel or equipment and or from carcass fecal matter. The concentration of total polyphenols and total flavonoids, the activity of antioxidants, and the inhibitory effect on reactive oxygen species (ROS) were higher in SPW yogurt than SPE yogurt. Furthermore, α-glucosidase and lipase activity inhibitory effects of SPW yogurt were higher than those of SPE yogurt. Nitric oxide (NO) produced by inducible NO synthase (iNOS/NOS2) in these tumors is known to foster malignant cell proliferation, migration, and invasion as well as resistance to chemo- and radiotherapy. Minimally invasive photodynamic therapy (PDT) sensitized by 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA)-induced protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) is a highly effective anti-glioblastoma modality, but it is also subject to NO-mediated resistance. Studies by the authors have revealed that glioblastoma U87 and U251 cells use endogenous iNOS/NO to not only resist photokilling after an ALA/light challenge, but also to promote proliferation and migration/invasion of surviving cells. Stress-upregulated iNOS/NO was found to play a major role in these negative responses to PDT-like treatment. Feasibility was assessed across session attendance, the adequacy, acceptability, and confidence with the telehealth technology and adherence to diet (Mediterranean Diet Adherence Score). Secondary pooled analysis of effectiveness was determined from changes in quality of life and metabolic syndrome severity score.

Nitric oxide (NO) produced by inducible NO synthase (iNOS/NOS2) in these tumors is known to foster malignant cell proliferation, migration, and invasion as well as resistance to chemo- and radiotherapy. Minimally invasive photodynamic therapy (PDT) sensitized by 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA)-induced protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) is a highly effective anti-glioblastoma modality, but it is also subject to NO-mediated resistance. Studies by the authors have revealed that glioblastoma U87 and U251 cells use endogenous iNOS/NO to not only resist photokilling after an ALA/light challenge, but also to promote proliferation and migration/invasion of surviving cells. Stress-upregulated iNOS/NO was found to play a major role in these negative responses to PDT-like treatment.   • Silver nanoclusters containing Ag0 atoms protected by amino acids were synthesized and characterized. Chiral superatomic silver nanoclusters [Ag47 L12 (C≡Ct Bu)16 ]BF4 (L=l-/d-valine or l-/d-isoleucine) have been prepared by reducing AgC≡Ct Bu and amino acids (AAs) with NaBH4 . Single crystal X-ray diffraction revealed that these clusters have T symmetry, and the Ag47 metal kernel can be viewed as a tetracapped truncated tetrahedron (Ag17 ) surrounded with six W-shaped Ag5 units. The clusters are homochiral as evidenced by CD measurements. As for the strong CD signals, large contributions are found from the occupied Ag s,p states (superatomic D states) near the Fermi level. Electron counting revealed that these clusters are 18-electron systems, suggesting they are superatomic clusters. The superatomic nature with a 1S2 1P6 1D10 configuration was supported by DFT calculations.     Previous studies have indicated that xerostomia is a critical factor affecting periodontitis; nonetheless, it is controversial whether xerostomia impairs peri-implant tissue. The objective of this experimental study was to evaluate the effect of xerostomia on the peri-implant hard and soft tissues in the rat model.

    Implants were placed in bilateral maxillae of male Wistar rats. The animals underwent submandibular and sublingual gland resection on both sides (DRY group) or sham operation (CTR group). Silk ligatures were placed around one side of abutments, which were randomly selected in each animal. The effects of xerostomia were assessed using micro-CT, histological analysis, real-time PCR, and 16S rRNA-based metagenomic analysis.

    Ligation with silk thread caused bone resorption around implants. Although xerostomia itself did not induce bone resorption, it significantly enhanced silk ligature-mediated bone resorption around implants. Histological analysis and real-time PCR indicated that xerostomia induced inflammation and osteoclastogenesis around implants with silk ligatures. Furthermore, it altered the microbiota of the plaque on the silk thread around implants.

Seventy-two patients suffering from different dermatoses volunteered to take part into the study. They displayed a mean age of 40.38 ± 12.46 years (median 41.0 years), 25 subjects were males (34.7% of the entire sample). The median weight change was 0 kg. The overall ICF effect size was -0.58 ([95% CI -0.83 to -0.33], P  less then  .0001, medium effect size). Since in the present investigation no weight loss occurred, we could speculate that the impact of fasting in terms of improvements in the clinical symptoms could be rather due to the perturbation of the human biological clock. This study reports biochemical properties of a predicted butyrate kinase from Desulfovibrio vulgaris str. Hildenborough (DvBuk) expressed heterologously and purified from E. coli. Gel filtration chromatography indicates purified DvBuk is active as a dimer. The optimum temperature and pH for DvBuk activity is 44°C and 7.5, respectively. The enzyme displays enhanced thermal stability in the presence of substrates as observed for similar enzymes. Measurement of kcat and KM for various substrates reveals DvBuk exhibits the highest catalytic efficiencies for butyrate, valerate, and isobutyrate. In particular, these measurements reveal this enzyme's apparent high affinity for C4 fatty acids relative to other butyrate kinases. In the Portuguese heat-health warning system (HHWS), ÍCARO, a daily report with heat-related mortality prediction is sent to heat-health action plan (HHAP) practitioners. HHAP practitioners assess risk and implement measures to prevent heatwave-related impact, but ÍCARO's use and understanding are unknown. We assessed ÍCARO's use and understanding by key HHAP practitioners. METHODS We conducted semi-structured interviews with national/regional HHAP practitioners. Interviews were recorded, transcribed and analysed using thematic content analysis. To maximize credibility a validation process was implemented through researcher triangulation; a sample of 30 segments was recorded by independent researchers. RESULTS We conducted six interviews with nine professionals (mean time 52 min) from five regions. We identified four categories report's content and presentation, report's reception and communication, ÍCARO and risk assessment and other issues. Practitioners use ÍCARO and perceived it as relevant; they raised issues on its interpretation and felt these were not fully addressed, given researchers' use of statistical/epidemiological terms. We identified the need for improved communication and report's clarity. CONCLUSIONS Our study stresses the need for collaboration between experts within HHWS/HHAP. Despite ÍCARO's understanding being challenging, practitioners consider it a relevant tool. Researchers should use less statistical language and clarify ÍCARO's interpretation. RESULTS Ninety patients (bevacizumab+vorinostat49, bevacizumab41) were enrolled of whom 74 were evaluable for PFS (bevacizumab+vorinostat44, bevacizumab30). This study reports biochemical properties of a predicted butyrate kinase from Desulfovibrio vulgaris str. Hildenborough (DvBuk) expressed heterologously and purified from E. coli. Gel filtration chromatography indicates purified DvBuk is active as a dimer. The optimum temperature and pH for DvBuk activity is 44°C and 7.5, respectively. The enzyme displays enhanced thermal stability in the presence of substrates as observed for similar enzymes. Measurement of kcat and KM for various substrates reveals DvBuk exhibits the highest catalytic efficiencies for butyrate, valerate, and isobutyrate. In particular, these measurements reveal this enzyme's apparent high affinity for C4 fatty acids relative to other butyrate kinases. In the Portuguese heat-health warning system (HHWS), ÍCARO, a daily report with heat-related mortality prediction is sent to heat-health action plan (HHAP) practitioners. HHAP practitioners assess risk and implement measures to prevent heatwave-related impact, but ÍCARO's use and understanding are unknown. We assessed ÍCARO's use and understanding by key HHAP practitioners. METHODS We conducted semi-structured interviews with national/regional HHAP practitioners. Interviews were recorded, transcribed and analysed using thematic content analysis. To maximize credibility a validation process was implemented through researcher triangulation; a sample of 30 segments was recorded by independent researchers. RESULTS We conducted six interviews with nine professionals (mean time 52 min) from five regions. We identified four categories report's content and presentation, report's reception and communication, ÍCARO and risk assessment and other issues. Practitioners use ÍCARO and perceived it as relevant; they raised issues on its interpretation and felt these were not fully addressed, given researchers' use of statistical/epidemiological terms. We identified the need for improved communication and report's clarity. CONCLUSIONS Our study stresses the need for collaboration between experts within HHWS/HHAP. Despite ÍCARO's understanding being challenging, practitioners consider it a relevant tool. Researchers should use less statistical language and clarify ÍCARO's interpretation. METHODS This multicenter phase II trial used a Bayesian adaptive design to randomize patients with recurrent GBM to bevacizumab alone or bevacizumab plus vorinostat with the primary endpoint of progression-free survival (PFS) and secondary end points of overall survival (OS) and clinical outcomes assessment (MDASI-BT). Eligible patients were adults (≥18 yrs) with histologically confirmed GBM recurrent after prior radiation therapy, with adequate organ function, KPS≥60, and no prior bevacizumab or HDAC inhibitors. However, no study has yet utilized objective monitoring of day-to-day sleep and physical activity to investigate potential effects on the CAR. This study aimed to test the hypotheses that either sleep duration or sleep quality would interact with the prior 24 h' physical activity to predict the CAR on the following morning. Salivary samples were collected from 85 young adults (mean = 19.1 years, SD = 1.89) immediately after waking from nocturnal sleep and again 30 min after waking; two complete and consecutive days were used. Participants wore accelerometers (ActiGraph, wGT3X-BT) throughout this phase of a larger study, which provided objective measures of sleep duration, number of awakenings, and amount of physical activity. Mixed-effects models with post-hoc regions of significance decompositions tested the hypothesized interaction effects. Results demonstrated a significant interaction between prior day sleep duration and physical activity predicting the next day CAR, wherein short sleep duration and high levels of physical activity resulted in an augmented CAR. Although more sleep clearly predicted a smaller next day CAR in main effect, this study provides additional support that sleep duration effects are also moderated by prior day physical activity. Both behavioral factors should be considered when assessing the CAR and the association between the CAR other psychoneuroendocrine outcomes.
    Roughly half the individuals who experience childhood maltreatment also experience depressive symptoms in adulthood; however, many current treatments are ineffective. Allostatic load (AL) offers a method of exploring this relationship through the lens of biometric dysregulation that may explain these increased odds for depressive symptoms in adulthood. We attempted to expand the limited research base on AL, depressive symptoms, and childhood maltreatment by examining how these variables are associated in a U.S. community sample.

    Data were acquired through secondary analysis of the Midlife in the United States Refresher biomarker survey (n=691). Depression severity, measured by the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale, served as the dependent variable, while summed scores for the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, and a 16 measure AL index served as independent variables. All analyses were stratified by sex (n male=347, n female=344). The Perceived Stress Scale was included to control for recent in a U.S., community sample. Sex stratification reveals a clear need for accounting for sex differences in predictor variables for future studies.The aim of this study was to explore the effects of different concentrations of amoxicillin (AMX) on nitrogen (N) conversion and bacterial community structure during aerobic composting. The results revealed that AMX led to a lower temperature and increased pH during the thermophilic phase of composting. AMX inhibited the relative abundance (RA) of Firmicutes at the initial phase but increased the RA of Actinobacteria and Bacteroidetes compared with the control treatment. The core bacterial community linked to N conversion was determined by network analysis. AMX decreased the RA of amoA, a gene related to nitrification, and increased the RAs of nirK and nosZ, which are related to denitrification. Meanwhile, AMX inhibited the activity of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria but promoted the activity of denitrifying bacteria. Therefore, the main adverse effect of AMX on compost quality is to change the microbial community structure and affect the physical and chemical properties of composting.

  • Reversible modifications of reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT)-polymerization derived end groups are usually limited to reductive degradable disulfide conjugates. However, self-immolative linkers can promote ligation and traceless release of primary and secondary amines as well as alcohols via carbonates or carbamates in β-position to disulfides. In this study, these two strategies are combined and the concept of self-immolative RAFT-polymer end group modifications is introduced As model compounds, benzylamine, dibenzylamine, and benzyl alcohol are first attached as carbamates or carbonates to a symmetrical disulfide, and in a straightforward one-pot reaction these groups are reversibly attached to aminolyzed trithiocarbonate end groups of RAFT-polymerized poly(N,N-dimethylacrylamide). Quantitative end group modification is confirmed by 1 H NMR spectroscopy, size exclusion chromatography, and mass spectrometry, while reversible release of attached compounds under physiological reductive conditions is successfully monitored by diffusion ordered NMR spectroscopy and thin layer chromatography. Additionally, this concept is further expanded to protein-reactive, self-immolative carbonate species that enable reversible bioconjugation of lysozyme and α-macrophage mannose receptor (MMR) nanobodies as model proteins. The present study was conducted to assess the bacterial load in fresh semen of the 2-6 years old bucks. For conducting the experiment, semen ejaculates from 18 bucks (6 from each breed namely Jakhrana, Jamunapari and Barbari) were used. We collected 5 ejaculates from each **** in each season (Summer-April to June, Rainy-July to Sept and Winter-November to January). Semen was collected with the artificial vagina (AV) method, and separate AV was used for each **** every time. The semen collection frequency was once in a week. Immediately after initial evaluation, collected semen samples were transferred to the microbiology laboratory of the institute. Thereafter, the semen samples were subjected to bacteriological examination to assess the microbial load. The results of the current study indicate that the microbial load in the semen was significantly (p less then 0.05) higher in the Jamunapari bucks and in aged bucks. Bacteriospermia in different seasons was not significantly varied; however, nonsignificant increase in microbial load during the rainy season was observed. To better understand dithranol's mechanisms on healthy skin, we analysed its effect on normal murine as well as xenografted human skin. We found a strong increase in mRNA expression of anti-microbial peptides (AMPs) (eg Lcn2, Defb1, Defb3, S100a8, S100a9), keratinocyte differentiation markers (eg Serpinb3a, Flg, Krt16, Lce3e) and inflammatory cytokines (eg Il1b and Il17) in healthy murine skin. This effect was paralleled by inflammation and disturbed skin barrier, as well as an injury response resulting in epidermal hyperproliferation, as observed in murine and xenografted adult human skin. Thyroid impairment is one of the most common endocrine issues in human health. In molecular docking analyses, tebuconazole exhibited binding potency of -6.28 kcal/mol with 2CEO compared to its native ligand thyroxin and inhibitor propylthiouracil which had the binding potency of -9.

In this study, these two strategies are combined and the concept of self-immolative RAFT-polymer end group modifications is introduced As model compounds, benzylamine, dibenzylamine, and benzyl alcohol are first attached as carbamates or carbonates to a symmetrical disulfide, and in a straightforward one-pot reaction these groups are reversibly attached to aminolyzed trithiocarbonate end groups of RAFT-polymerized poly(N,N-dimethylacrylamide). The present study was conducted to assess the bacterial load in fresh semen of the 2-6 years old bucks. For conducting the experiment, semen ejaculates from 18 bucks (6 from each breed namely Jakhrana, Jamunapari and Barbari) were used. We collected 5 ejaculates from each buck in each season (Summer-April to June, Rainy-July to Sept and Winter-November to January). Semen was collected with the artificial vagina (AV) method, and separate AV was used for each buck every time. The semen collection frequency was once in a week. Immediately after initial evaluation, collected semen samples were transferred to the microbiology laboratory of the institute. Thereafter, the semen samples were subjected to bacteriological examination to assess the microbial load. The results of the current study indicate that the microbial load in the semen was significantly (p less then 0.05) higher in the Jamunapari bucks and in aged bucks. Bacteriospermia in different seasons was not significantly varied; however, nonsignificant increase in microbial load during the rainy season was observed. Health status can also be a powerful marker for subsequent clinical outcomes, but its prognostic importance around the time of both TAVR and transcatheter mitral valve repair has not been fully defined.

    Among 73 699 patients who underwent transfemoral TAVR or transcatheter mitral valve repair between 2011 and 2018 (mean age, 81.9±7.0 years, 53% men, 92% TAVR), we constructed sequential models examining the association of health status (as assessed with the Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire-Overall Summary Score; KCCQ-OS) at baseline, 30 days, change from baseline to 30 days, and combinations of these assessments with death and heart failure (HF) hospitalization from 30 days to 1 year.

    Although higher baseline KCCQ-OS and 30-day KCCQ-OS scores were each associated with lower risk of death and HFssment of their health status immediately before and 30 days after TAVR and transcatheter mitral valve repair is associated with subsequent risk of death and HF hospitalization, with the 30-day assessment being most strongly associated with outcomes. Our findings support the routine use of KCCQ data as a prognostic tool.

  • Experimental comparisons with some established methods illustrate performance advantages that our framework exhibits.The relationship between complex brain oscillations and the dynamics of individual neurons is poorly understood. Here we utilize maximum caliber, a dynamical inference principle, to build a minimal yet general model of the collective (mean field) dynamics of large populations of neurons. In agreement with previous experimental observations, we describe a simple, testable mechanism, involving only a single type of neuron, by which many of these complex oscillatory patterns may emerge. Our model predicts that the refractory period of neurons, which has often been neglected, is essential for these behaviors.Background Self-Monitoring (SM), the act of observing ones' own behavior, has been used in substance use treatment because SM may bring conscious awareness to automatized substance use behaviors. Empirical findings regarding SM's effectiveness are mixed. The aim of this study was to synthesize the literature for the efficacy of SM on substance use. Method A literature search was conducted using MEDLINE/PubMed. Results Out of 2,659 citations, 41 studies with 126 analyses were included. Among analyses from studies rated Moderate (n = 24) or Strong (n = 3) quality, SM was shown to have a helpful effect (e.g., reducing substance use) 29% of the time; to have no effect 63.0% of the time; and to be detrimental in 8.0% of analyses. SM's helpful effects were associated with methodological characteristics including longer monitoring and Phone/IVR and EMA/Computer methodologies compared to Paper/Pencil. SM was more helpful in non-treatment-seekers (35.0% of analyses showed SM to be helpful compared to 25.0% of analyses with treatment-seekers). Conclusions Results of this study suggest that SM, under certain circumstances, as the potential to be a low-cost, low-risk research and early intervention strategy for substance users.Background Many individuals misusing opioids do not enter into treatment. Additionally, SEM results demonstrate stigma barriers, awareness, and attitudinal barriers were associated with mental health comorbidities, opioid abuse and dependence severity, and treatment history. Denial barriers, however, were only associated with treatment history, and structural/financial barriers were only associated with opioid abuse and dependence severity. Data on nurses' demographic/background characteristics, personal attitudes, professional attitudes, and motivation related to working with patients with opioid use and opioid use-related problems were collected via a paper/pencil survey and analyzed using linear regression. Results A sample of 234 nurses diagnosable disorder.Background In general, research has found that patient-centered substance use disorder treatment is positively correlated with improved patient outcomes. Methods We conducted interviews with 30 Medicaid-enrolled individuals who received addiction treatment in California about their experiences with the intake assessment process. Results Participants reported that the intake assessment process evoked strong feelings, both positive and negative. Some participants said that answering detailed questions about their substance use, mental health, and social relationships, for example, was cathartic and gave them helpful insights. Other participants found the questions invasive, exhausting, and anxiety provoking. Participants also emphasized how critical it is for the person conducting the assessment to be supportive, nonjudgmental, and attentive. Participants recommended delaying the comprehensive assessment because they did not feel physically or emotionally ready to complete the intake. Conclusions and recommendations Patients' introduction to addiction treatment is typically the intake assessment. By understanding how patients experience intake assessments, providers can make the process more patient-centered, which may lead to improved patient outcomes.

Participants also emphasized how critical it is for the person conducting the assessment to be supportive, nonjudgmental, and attentive. Participants recommended delaying the comprehensive assessment because they did not feel physically or emotionally ready to complete the intake. Conclusions and recommendations Patients' introduction to addiction treatment is typically the intake assessment. By understanding how patients experience intake assessments, providers can make the process more patient-centered, which may lead to improved patient outcomes.

More specifically, Actinobacteria, Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus flavus were significantly associated with M. ulcerans skin carriage. High-speed atomic force microscopy revealed that the H2A.B nucleosome, but not the canonical H2A nucleosome, transiently forms an intermediate "open conformation", in which two H2A.B-H2B dimers may be detached from the H3-H4 tetramer and bind to the DNA regions near the entry/exit sites. Mutational analyses revealed that the H2A.****terminal region is responsible for the adoption of the open conformation and the H2A.B-H2B exchange in the nucleosome.     There is limited published data on combat ocular trauma (COT) among local nationals managed at deployed United States (US) and United Kingdom (UK) military hospitals in recent conflicts. We report the epidemiology and outcomes of COT from a deployed military hospital in Afghanistan.

    In this retrospective case series, consecutive injuries requiring ophthalmic surgery at a military hospital in Afghanistan where the sole US and UK ophthalmologist(s) were deployed between January 2017 and September 2019 were reviewed. The main outcomes were mean post-operative visual acuity (VA) in open and closed globe injury and the incidence of retinal detachment after open globe repair.

    There were 102 eyes of 84 patients who had ocular injuries and underwent ophthalmic surgery at the military hospital. Most patients were male (81 [96%]) and were local nationals (71 [85%]). Blast exposure (82 [80%]) was the most common mechanism of injury. Mean post-operative VA was 1.24 ± 2.29 logMAR (20/348 Snellen equivalent) in open globe injury and 1.59 ± 1.17 logMAR (20/778 Snellen equivalent) in closed globe injury. After open globe repair, retinal detachment developed in 8 of 18 (44%) eyes.

    COT injuries often resulted in poor post-operative VA and retinal detachment after open globe repair was common. The high incidence and severity of COT sustained by local civilians and combatants in this study may support programs to increase the availability and wear of combat eye protection among local nationals partnered with US and coalition troops.

Continuous National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data from 2005-2006 to 2013-2014 were analyzed to examine the trends of bone mineral density (BMD) and the prevalence trends of osteoporosis osteopenia among T2DM patients and non-diabetic people aged 40 years and older. The age- and BMI-adjusted mean BMD of the femur neck for the four NHANES cycles decreased linearly in both T2DM patients and non-diabetic people (both Plinear trend ≤ 0.009). Among women with T2DM, the mean BMD in 2013-2014 was significantly lower than that in 2005-2006, even after adjusting for multiple covariates. During 2005-2014, the prevalence of osteoporosis among T2DM patients and non-diabetic people increased but with no significant linear trend (both Plinear trend > 0.05), while the prevalence of osteopenia in the two populations increased linearly (both Plinear trend  less then  0.04). Age- and BMI-adjusted mean BMD decreased in 2013-2014 in patients with T2DM and non-diabetic people, while the prevalence of osteoporosis and osteopenia increased in both groups.

  • Hemerocallis citrina Baroni, also called yellow flower vegetable (huang hua cai in Chinese), is belonging to the family Xanthorrhoeaceae and is widely planted in China, the Korea Peninsula and Japan for ornamental purposes and vegetable value. In addition, they could also be used as a traditional Chinese medicinal and modern medicinal plant (Du et al. 2014). In August 2019, a leaf spot disease was observed on H. citrina plants in Zhejiang Province of China, with approximately 85% incidence in almost 700 ha. Symptoms were firstly displayed as small, water-soaked, pale chlorotic spots, with yellow halos enlarged into large fusiform spots with brown edge and gray centers. Later, infected leaves were badly damaged and became wilted. Small pieces of infected tissue were excised from the margin of necrotic lesions, surface disinfected with 70% ethanol for 8s, 0.1% HgCl2 for 1 min, rinsed with sterile distilled water for three times, and incubated on potato dextrose agar (PDA, amended with 100 mg/L streptomycin sulf brown spots resembling those observed in the fields developed on the inoculated leaves. However, no symptoms were observed on the controls. E. sorghinum was re-isolated and identified based on morphological and molecular techniques as described above. To our knowledge, this is the first report of E. sorghinum causing leaf spot on H. citrina. It seems to be a threat for H. citrina planting in China and should be considered in order to reduce losses caused by this disease. This study might provide the basis for diagnosis and control of the disease.

    To determine the effectiveness of ECT in patients with clozapine resistant schizophrenia and compare the same with a group of patients with non-clozapine resistant schizophrenia, receiving ECT.

    Out of a total of 68 patients with schizophrenia, 27 (38.66%) of patients had CRS. With 6 ECTs, there was a significant reduction in PANSS positive, negative, general psychopathology, prosocial score and depression symptoms in the CRS (
     < 0.001) and Non-CRS group (
     < 0.001), but no statistically significant difference was seen between the 2 groups in terms of proportion of patients showing >40% response on PANSS total score. The reduction in PANSS score of >40% in CRS group was seen in 48.1% of patients in the positive symptoms subscale, in 25.9% of patients in negative symptoms subscale, in 46.7% of cases in the general psychopathology subscale, in 44.4% of the patients in Depression subscale, in 29.6% of the patients in the modified prosocialsubscaleand in 29.6% of the patients in total PANSS score.
