Overall, tensile strength and elastic (Young's) modulus of sloth tendons were low, and these material properties were remarkably similar to those of equine suspensory "ligaments." This relatively large beetle can disperse substantial distances in search of new host trees, and laboratory experiments have demonstrated continuous tethered flights that can last for up to an hour. We flew the beetles tethered in a wind tunnel and used high-speed videography to estimate the aerodynamic power from their flapping kinematics and particle image velocimetry (PIV) to evaluate drag and kinetic energy from their unsteady wakes. To account for tethering effects, we measured the forces applied by the beetles on the tether arm holding them in place. The drag of the flying beetle over the flapping cycle, estimated from the flow fields in the unsteady wake, showed good agreement with direct measurement of mean horizontal force. Both measurements showed that total drag during flight is ∼5-fold higher than the parasite drag on the body. The aerodynamic power estimated from both the motion of the wings, using a quasi-steady blade-element model, and the kinetic energy in the wake, gave mean values of flight-muscle mass-specific power of 87 and 65 W kg muscle-1, respectively. A comparison of the two values suggests that ∼25% of the energy is lost within the fluid due to turbulence and heat. The muscle mass-specific power found here is low relative to the maximal power output reported for insect flight muscles. This can be attributed to reduce weight support during tethered flight or to operation at submaximal output that may ensure a supply of metabolic substrates to the flight muscles, thus delaying their fatigue during long-distance flights.The shape of drug delivery vehicles impacts both the circulation time and the effectiveness of the vehicle. Peptide-based drug amphiphiles (DAs) are promising new candidates as drug delivery vehicles that can self-assemble into shapes such as nanofilament and nanotube (diameter ~ 6-10 nm). The number of conjugated drugs affects the IC50 of these DAs, which is correlated to the effective cellular uptake. Characterizing and optimizing the interaction of these DAs and their assemblies with the cellular membrane is experimentally challenging. Long-time molecular dynamics can determine if the DA molecular structure affects the translocation across and interaction with the cellular membrane. Here, we report long-time atomistic simulation on Anton 2 (up to 25 μs) of these DAs with model cellular membranes. Results indicate that the interaction of these DAs with model cellular membranes is dependent on the number of conjugated drugs. We find that, with increased drug loading, the hydrophobic drug (camptothecin) builds up in the outer hydrophobic core of the membrane, pulling in positively charged peptide groups. Next, we computationally probe the interaction of differing shapes of these model drug delivery vehicles-nanofilament and nanotube-with the same model membranes, finding that the interaction of these nanostructures with the membrane is strongly repulsive. Results suggest that the hydrogen bond density between the nanostructure and the membrane may play a key role in modulating the interaction between the nanostructure and the membrane. Taken together, these results offer important insights for the rational design of peptide-based drug delivery vehicles.
    To evaluate the awareness, knowledge and the perception of risks of glaucoma among rural and urban dwellers in Ghana, a high prevalent country, in order to provide information for health promotion planning.

    In a population-based descriptive cross-sectional survey, 1200 adults were selected from household settings, using a two-stage cluster and simple systematic random sampling. Quantitative data collection, using interviewer-administered questionnaire, was employed. Descriptive statistics were performed using chi-square, ordinal univariate, multinomial and multivariate logistic regression models used to calculate odds ratio with 95% confidence interval (CI) to identify predictive factors.

    Overall, only 326 (27.2%, 95% CI = 24.6-29.7) indicated they were aware of glaucoma, whereas 331 (27.6%, 95% CI = 24.6-29.7) had ever undergone an eye screening.   • Professional conferences are where research findings are initially presented. Studies suggest many research ideas presented at conferences are never published. Previous studies have demonstrated that the full publication rate of abstracts presented at pharmacy meetings is approximately 20%. The objective of this study was to determine the full publication rate of hematology/oncology abstracts presented at major pharmacy organization annual meetings.

    A systematic search of PubMed and Google Scholar was performed. Publication status was evaluated for hematology/oncology abstracts presented at annual meetings for the following organizations American College of Clinical Pharmacy Annual Meeting, American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Midyear Clinical Meeting, Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association Annual Meeting, and International Society of Oncology Pharmacy Practitioners Annual Meeting. Data collected included the meeting of abstract presentation, number of authors, abstract study type, country of origin, journal of publication, and type of publication. Abstracts presented as trainee research were excluded.

    Of 451 oncology abstracts evaluated, the most common topic categories included pharmacotherapy (n = 244; 54.1%), clinical pharmacy practice (n = 84; 18.6%), and operational/compounding (n = 69; 15.3%). The overall publication rate was 17.5% (n = 79). Abstracts were published as full manuscripts over a spread of 48 different journals. Factors associated with full publication included abstracts with more than 5 authors (OR 3.86, 95% CI 2.32-6.43; p < 0.0001) and abstracts presented at oncology-focused pharmacy meetings (OR 2.92, 95% CI 1.49-5.72; p = 0.0018).

This was a prospective longitudinal study involving patients undergoing oral chemotherapy. The study environment was an outpatient pharmacy at a tertiary-level oncology hospital. Ninety patients who received oral chemotherapy were evaluated, and 27 patients were followed up in accordance with the exclusion criteria and acceptability of participation in the study. The patients were predominantly diagnosed with gynecological tumors, with a mean age of 57.56 ± 13.06. The average consumption of drugs per patient was 4.63 ± 4.85, and more than 55% of patients had undergone oral antineoplastic therapy for more than a year. The main therapeutic groups used were drugs that acted on the gastrointestinal tract and metabolism (34%). All patients had at least one drug-related problem (DRP). In total, 133 DRP were identified. Approximately 33% of patients had DRPs related to antineoplastic therapy; non-adherence, incorrect administration, and the probability of adverse events were among the frequently reported DRPs.     Trastuzumab and pertuzumab are recombinant humanized monoclonal antibodies targeting human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2). Currently, six reported cases on the use of trastuzumab in dialysis, and one on the use of pertuzumab, have been identified in the literature. This case is one of the first to describe the use of pertuzumab, and adds to currently available reports on the use of trastuzumab, in hemodialysis.

    A female receiving hemodialysis three times per week was diagnosed with a clinical T2N1M0, hormone receptor-negative, HER2-positive, invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast. She received six cycles of neoadjuvant docetaxel, carboplatin, trastuzumab, and pertuzumab, with left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) remaining stable throughout. Following surgery, she continued dual HER2 blockade with trastuzumab and pertuzumab, after six cycles of which she was found on routine echocardiogram to have an asymptomatic decline in LVEF.Management & outcome Following the decline in LVEF, trastrtuzumab in a patient with end-stage renal disease undergoing hemodialysis, and lends additional support to the use of trastuzumab in this particular patient population.
    Ifosfamide is an alkylating agent, mostly used against variety of solid tumors in pediatric oncology practice. Although hemorrhagic cystitis is known as a common adverse effect, encephalopathy is the another one that should be kept in mind. It may occur in 2-5% of the children, and manifested by different clinical spectrums such as somnolence, lethargy, irritability, excitement, disorientation, confusion, weakness, hallucinations, seizures, movement disorders, and coma.

    Herein, we present two patients who developed generalized seizure activity and one who developed coma during ifosfamide infusion.
    In the first two patients, ifosfamide infusion was discontinued and intravenous diazepam was given. Their seizure stopped in a few minutes and neurological examination was **** to normal, and no focal deficits were observed. In the third patient, ifosfamide infusion was discontinued, methylene blue and thiamine were given. Discussion Our review identified several risk factors for social isolation that have been previously documented in literature, in addition to several risks that may be unique to those living in LTC homes. Results highlight several scholarly and practical implications.

  • Osteoarthritis is one of the most common musculoskeletal diseases which leads to functional decline and loss of quality of life. Knee osteoarthritis is considered as highly burdensome disease as well as highest contributor to global disability.

    (osteoarthritis). Present study was framed to compare the efficacy of
    (Dry Cupping) and
    (soft and prolonged massage) with
    (chamomile oil) in the management of
    (knee osteoarthritis).

    In present randomised controlled clinical trial, a total of 48 diagnosed patients of knee osteoarthritis were allocated randomly into group A (n=24) and group B (n=24). Group A was treated with soft and prolonged massage with
    while group B was managed with dry cupping on alternate day for 15min. Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and Knee osteoarthritis outcome score (KOOS) were used for the assessment of efficacy. A total of 40 patients, group A (n=20) and group B (n=20), were completed the allocated duration of protocol therapy and were restricted to statistical analysis.

    Statistically highly significant improvement was observed in objective parameters using both paired and unpaired t-tests. VAS and all KOOS subscales were found to be strongly significant at 20th day when compared with baseline (p<0.001). In intergroup comparison significant change (p>0.05) was not observed. Safety parameters were in their normal range after treatment.

    Uterine fibroids are benign tumors that develop in many women of reproductive age. Surgery is the main approach to treatment while other options are also associated with adverse effects. Erzurum propolis showed the highest anticarcinogenic activity at the concentrations of 62.5 µg/mL and 125 µg/ mL, which dropped at higher concentrations. All propolis samples also showed antibacterial activity against the tested human pathogens similar to ampicillin and penicillin controls, except for Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
    Osteoarthritis is one of the most common musculoskeletal diseases which leads to functional decline and loss of quality of life. Knee osteoarthritis is considered as highly burdensome disease as well as highest contributor to global disability. (Cupping Therapy) and (Massage) are claimed effective in the treatment of (osteoarthritis). Present study was framed to compare the efficacy of (Dry Cupping) and (soft and prolonged massage) with (chamomile oil) in the management of (knee osteoarthritis). In present randomised controlled clinical trial, a total of 48 diagnosed patients of knee osteoarthritis were allocated randomly into group A (n=24) and group B (n=24). Group A was treated with soft and prolonged massage with while group B was managed with dry cupping on alternate day for 15min. Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and Knee osteoarthritis outcome score (KOOS) were used for the assessment of efficacy. A total of 40 patients, group A (n=20) and group B (n=20), were completed the allocated duration of protocol therapy and were restricted to statistical analysis. Statistically highly significant improvement was observed in objective parameters using both paired and unpaired t-tests. VAS and all KOOS subscales were found to be strongly significant at 20th day when compared with baseline (p<0.001). In intergroup comparison significant change (p>0.05) was not observed.   • In this study, the biocatalytic performance of a Baeyer-Villiger monooxygenase (BVMO) catalyzing the reaction of cyclohexanone to ε-caprolactone was investigated in Pseudomonas biofilms. Biofilm growth and development of two Pseudomonas taiwanensis VLB120 variants, Ps_BVMO and Ps_BVMO_DGC, were evaluated in drip flow reactors (DFRs) and rotating bed reactors (RBRs). Engineering a hyperactive diguanylate cyclase (DGC) from Caulobacter crescentus into Ps_BVMO resulted in faster biofilm growth compared to the control Ps_BVMO strain in the DFRs. The maximum product formation rates of 92 and 87 g m-2 d-1 were observed for mature Ps_BVMO and Ps_ BVMO_DGC biofilms, respectively. The application of the engineered variants in the RBR was challenged by low biofilm surface coverage (50-60%) of rotating bed cassettes, side-products formation, oxygen limitation, and a severe drop in production rates with time. By implementing an active oxygen supply mode and a twin capillary spray feed, the biofilm surface coverage was maximized to 70-80%. BVMO activity was severely inhibited by cyclohexanol formation, resulting in a decrease in product formation rates. By controlling the cyclohexanone feed concentration at 4 mM, a stable product formation rate of 14 g m-2 d-1 and a substrate conversion of 60% was achieved in the RBR.Quantitative characterization of biotechnological production processes requires the determination of different key performance indicators (KPIs) such as titer, rate and yield. Classically, these KPIs can be derived by combining black-box bioprocess modeling with non-linear regression for model parameter estimation. The presented pyFOOMB package enables a guided and flexible implementation of bioprocess models in the form of ordinary differential equation systems (ODEs). By building on Python as powerful and multi-purpose programing language, ODEs can be formulated in an object-oriented manner, which facilitates their modular design, reusability, and extensibility. Once the model is implemented, seamless integration and analysis of the experimental data is supported by various Python packages that are already available. In particular, for the iterative workflow of experimental data generation and subsequent model parameter estimation we employed the concept of replicate model instances, which are linked by common sets of parameters with global or local properties. Growth and sugar consumption were determined under variation of temperature, pH-value and concentration of a model substrate, containing sucrose, glucose and fructose. In shake flask cultivation maximum specific growth rate and specific substrate consumption rate of 1.53±0.09 day-1 and 2.41±0.14 gSub·gDW -1·day-1 were measured at pH 2 and 42°C. A scale-up of this process was conducted in a 3 L stirred tank reactor (STR). Wastewater from fruit-salad production was diluted to 15 g·L-1 total sugar concentration, supplemented with micronutrients and ammonia and pH was set to 3. Determined growth rate and substrate consumption were 1.21 day-1 and 1.88 gSub·gDW -1·day-1, respectively. It was demonstrated, that high sugar concentrations in wastewater streams from food production processes can be significantly reduced with G. sulphuraria SAG 21.92. This strain could achieve substrate consumption rates in wastewater, equal to the more common strain 074G, but at higher pH values. The EPS content of the isolates was affected by the microfiltration/ultrafiltration membranes used for cell removal/dialysis, respectively, and was 89% at maximum. There was no link between purity of the isolates, molecular mass (3 × 106 Da) and intrinsic viscosity (0.53 - 0.59 mL/mg) of the EPS. After adding EPS containing isolates to milk, gel stiffness after acidification increased by 25% at maximum, depending on the type and concentration of the specific isolate. Partly purified, cell containing isolates were effective at low absolute EPS concentration (approx. 0.1 g/kg) and therefore represent, together with their simple isolation protocol, an interesting approach to introduce microbial EPS into non-fermented products.In this report, a fully integrated solution for laboratory digitization is presented. The digital transformation of the laboratory starts with standardized integration of both new and "smart" lab devices, as well as legacy devices through a hardware gateway module. The open source Standardization in Lab Automation 2 standard is used for device communication. A central lab server channels all device communication and keeps a database record of every measurement, task and result generated or used in the lab. It acts as a central entry point for process management. This backbone enables a process control system to guide the worker through the lab process and provide additional assistance, like results of automated calculations or safety information.

  • In psoriatic arthritis (PsA), the treatment objective is remission (REM) or low disease activity (LDA), but patients' perception of REM is poorly studied. This analysis aimed to identify factors associated with patient-defined REM.

    This analysis uses ReFlaP data, an international PsA study, with REM defined as "At this time, is your psoriatic arthritis in remission, if this means you feel your disease is as good as gone?". Variables associated with first patient-defined REM and secondly LDA were identified using multivariable logistic regression and principal component analysis (PCA) to explore correlated variables.

    Of 424 patients (50.2% male, mean age 52 years) with established disease, 94 (22.2%) reported themselves as being in REM and 191 (45.0%) as LDA alone. In multivariable analysis pain, psoriasis, impact of disease, physician opinion of symptoms from joint damage, and Groll comorbidity index were independent predictors of remission. For LDA, results were similar. Using PCA, variance explained was 74% by 5 components for men and 80% by 6 components for women. The key component from PCA for remission was, for both genders, disease impact (PsAID, pain, HAQ) explaining 22.2-27.5% of variance. Other factors included musculoskeletal disease activity, chronicity/joint damage, psoriasis, enthesitis and CRP. For LDA, similar factors were identified but the variance explained was lower (64-68%).

    Many factors impact on patients' opinion of remission, dominated by disease impact. Disease activity in multiple domains, chronicity/age, comorbidities and symptoms due to other conditions contribute to a robust model highlighting that patient defined "remission" is multifaceted.

    Recurrent bacterial meningitis has been found to occur in about 5% of meningitis cases.

    We analyzed adults with recurrent episodes in a prospective nationwide cohort study of community-acquired bacterial meningitis.

    Of 2264 episodes of community-acquired bacterial meningitis between 2006 and 2018, 143 (6%) were identified as recurrent episodes in 123 patients. The median age was 57 years (interquartile range [IQR], 43-66), and 57 episodes (46%) occurred in men. The median duration between the first and the current episode was 5 years (IQR, 1-15). For 82 of 123 patients (67%), it was the first recurrent episode, 31 patients had 2-5 previous episodes (25%), 2 had 6-10 episodes (2%), and 2 had >10 episodes (2%). Predisposing factors were identified in 87 of 118 patients (74%) and most commonly consisted of ear or sinus infections (43 of 120, 36%) and cerebrospinal fluid leakage (37 of 116, 32%). The most common pathogens were Streptococcus pneumoniae (93 of 143, 65%) and Haemophilus influenzae (19 of 143, 13%). The outcome was unfavorable (Glasgow outcome scale score, <5) in 24 episodes with recurrent meningitis (17%) vs 810 for nonrecurrent meningitis patients (39%, P < .001). Six of 143 died (4%) vs 362 of 2095 patients (17%, P < .001).

    Within-household transmission of SARS-CoV-2 infection has been identified as one of the main sources of spread of COVID-19 after lockdown restrictions and self-isolation guidelines are implemented. Secondary attack rates among household contacts are estimated to be five to ten times higher than among non-household contacts, but it is unclear which individuals are more prone to transmit infection within their households.

    Using address matching, a cohort was assembled of all laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 residing in private households in Ontario, Canada. Descriptive analyses were performed to compare characteristics of cases in households that experienced secondary transmission versus those that did not. Logistic regression models were fit to determine index case characteristics and neighbourhood characteristics associated with transmission.

    Between January and July, 2020, there were 26,714 cases of COVID-19 residing in 21,226 households. Longer testing delays (≥5 days versus 0 days OR=3.02, 95% CI 2.53 - 3.60) and male gender (OR=1.28, 95% CI 1.18 - 1.38) were associated with greater odds of household secondary transmission, while being a healthcare worker (OR=0.56, 95% CI 0.50 - 0.62) was associated with lower odds of transmission. Neighbourhoods with larger average family size and a higher proportion of households with multiple persons per room were also associated with greater odds of transmission.

    In psoriatic arthritis (PsA), the treatment objective is remission (REM) or low disease activity (LDA), but patients' perception of REM is poorly studied. This analysis aimed to identify factors associated with patient-defined REM. This analysis uses ReFlaP data, an international PsA study, with REM defined as "At this time, is your psoriatic arthritis in remission, if this means you feel your disease is as good as gone?". Variables associated with first patient-defined REM and secondly LDA were identified using multivariable logistic regression and principal component analysis (PCA) to explore correlated variables. Of 424 patients (50.2% male, mean age 52 years) with established disease, 94 (22.2%) reported themselves as being in REM and 191 (45.0%) as LDA alone. In multivariable analysis pain, psoriasis, impact of disease, physician opinion of symptoms from joint damage, and Groll comorbidity index were independent predictors of remission. For LDA, results were similar. Using PCA, variance explained was 74% by 5 components for men and 80% by 6 components for women. The key component from PCA for remission was, for both genders, disease impact (PsAID, pain, HAQ) explaining 22.2-27.5% of variance. Other factors included musculoskeletal disease activity, chronicity/joint damage, psoriasis, enthesitis and CRP. For LDA, similar factors were identified but the variance explained was lower (64-68%). Many factors impact on patients' opinion of remission, dominated by disease impact. Disease activity in multiple domains, chronicity/age, comorbidities and symptoms due to other conditions contribute to a robust model highlighting that patient defined "remission" is multifaceted. Recurrent bacterial meningitis has been found to occur in about 5% of meningitis cases. We analyzed adults with recurrent episodes in a prospective nationwide cohort study of community-acquired bacterial meningitis. Of 2264 episodes of community-acquired bacterial meningitis between 2006 and 2018, 143 (6%) were identified as recurrent episodes in 123 patients. The median age was 57 years (interquartile range [IQR], 43-66), and 57 episodes (46%) occurred in men. The median duration between the first and the current episode was 5 years (IQR, 1-15). For 82 of 123 patients (67%), it was the first recurrent episode, 31 patients had 2-5 previous episodes (25%), 2 had 6-10 episodes (2%), and 2 had >10 episodes (2%). Predisposing factors were identified in 87 of 118 patients (74%) and most commonly consisted of ear or sinus infections (43 of 120, 36%) and cerebrospinal fluid leakage (37 of 116, 32%). The most common pathogens were Streptococcus pneumoniae (93 of 143, 65%) and Haemophilus influenzae (19 of 143, 13%). The outcome was unfavorable (Glasgow outcome scale score, <5) in 24 episodes with recurrent meningitis (17%) vs 810 for nonrecurrent meningitis patients (39%, P < .001). Logistic regression models were fit to determine index case characteristics and neighbourhood characteristics associated with transmission. Between January and July, 2020, there were 26,714 cases of COVID-19 residing in 21,226 households. Longer testing delays (≥5 days versus 0 days OR=3.02, 95% CI 2.53 - 3.60) and male gender (OR=1.28, 95% CI 1.18 - 1.38) were associated with greater odds of household secondary transmission, while being a healthcare worker (OR=0.56, 95% CI 0.50 - 0.62) was associated with lower odds of transmission. Neighbourhoods with larger average family size and a higher proportion of households with multiple persons per room were also associated with greater odds of transmission. Nursing students had difficulty in clinical situations such as reporting a patient's condition to a doctor, communicating with a patient and perform basic nursing skills at the same time, and managing conflicts between patients. The first goal of this study was to experimentally evaluate the ability of existing protease cleavage site prediction models (PROSPER and DeepCleave) to identify experimentally determined MMP9 cleavage sites in two purified proteins and in a complex human dermal fibroblast-derived extracellular matrix (ECM) proteome. We subsequently developed deep bidirectional recurrent neural network (BRNN) models to predict cleavage sites for 14 tissue proteases. The predictions of the new models were tested against experimental datasets and combined with amino acid composition analysis (to predict ultraviolet radiation (UVR)/ROS susceptibility) in a new web app the Manchester proteome susceptibility calculator (MPSC). The BRNN models performed better in predicting cleavage sites in native dermal ECM proteins than existing models (DeepCleave and PROSPER), and application of MPSC to the skin proteome suggests that compared with the elastic fiber network, fibrillar collagens may be susceptible primarily to protease-mediated proteolysis. Results showed that at 30 mol% oxygen, the fuel consumption was lowered by 8%, with a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by 3524 tons per day. An economic analysis was performed on the use of a membrane unit to produce 30 mol% oxygen. At current market prices, the unit is not economical. However, the system can achieve a payback duration of 3 years if natural gas price increases to USD 6.74 or the compressor cost decreases to USD 52 per kW. Currently, the research and development sector is targeting a membrane fabrication cost of less than USD 10 per m2 to make the membrane process more attractive.

    A 47-year-old man presented with swelling and pain in the left scrotum. Computed tomography revealed a solid occupied lesion in the left scrotum with huge metastases in the left lung and pleura. Results of a left high inguinal orchiectomy indicated a pathological diagnosis of germ cell tumors of several histological types. The patient declined postoperative chemotherapy but returned to our department 10months later with dyspnea. Serum tumor marker levels were restored to normal range by adjuvant chemotherapy. Thereafter, an extrapleural pneumonectomy was performed for the remaining tumors. He has since been asymptomatic without recurrence or dyspnea for over 5years.

Computed tomography revealed a double inferior vena cava and swollen masses in the para-aortic region. After four cycles of chemotherapy with etoposide and cisplatin, retroperitoneal lymph node dissection was safely performed with a modified template extended to the right side of the paracaval region by referring to three-dimensional images created by SYNAPSE VINCENT® software.

    Testicular injury with a tunica albuginea tear is typically reconstructed by primary closure. We herein describe the successful use of a tunica vaginalis flap for reconstruction of a ruptured testis for which primary closure was not possible.

Magnetic resonance imaging and ultrasonography indicated a left tunica albuginea tear, and emergency surgery was performed. Primary closure of the tunica albuginea was impossible since a tight closure could cause secondary damage. A vascular pedicle flap was prepared by shaping the tunica vaginalis to replace the tunica albuginea. He was discharged 2days postoperatively. Ultrasonography showed normal size and blood flow in the ruptured testis at the 2-week and 3-month follow-up.

    Treatment-related neuroendocrine prostate cancer, a rare and aggressive malignancy that emerges during androgen deprivation therapy characterized by low serum prostate-specific antigen concentrations, is challenging to monitor because it is associated with predominantly visceral and lytic bone metastases.

    We describe the case of a 69-year-old man with treatment-related neuroendocrine prostate cancer in whom the treatment response could be monitored using whole-body diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging in addition to serum concentrations of neuroendocrine markers. The patient responded well to platinum-based chemotherapy and achieved a complete response, as evidenced by these diagnostic modalities.

    Sacral agenesis (SA) is a rare congenital malformation of the spine. There has been a paucity of clinical research to investigate the surgical outcome of spinopelvic fixation in these patients. In this study, the authors aimed to evaluate the outcome of different distal fixation anchors in lumbosacral spinal deformities associated with SA and to determine the optimal distal fixation anchor.

    Patients with diagnoses of SA and lumbosacral scoliosis undergoing spinopelvic fixation with S1 screws, iliac screws, or S2-alar-iliac (S2AI) screws were analyzed. The aim of this study was to evaluate the magnetic fields of reference devices using smartphone-integrated magnetometers and compare the results with published shunt tolerances.

    Five smartphones from different manufacturers were used to evaluate the magnetic properties of various commonly used (n = 6) and newer-generation (n = 10) devices using measurements generated from the internal smartphone magnetometers. PV tolerance testing using calibrated magnets of varying field strengths was also performed by smartphone magnetometers.

    All tested smartphone-integrated magnetometers had a factory sensor saturation point at around 5000 µT or 50 Gauss (G). In this context and in light of the pervasive financial crisis in Greece, we conducted a study in order to explore adolescents' gambling involvement in Athens region and also to identify the socio-economic characteristics of adolescents who have engaged into gambling activities. Students were recruited from a sample of schools in Athens area. For the assessment of gambling involvement in adolescents, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-IV Multiple Response Adapted for Juveniles Questionnaire (DSM-IV-MR-J) was administered. Additional self-constructed questions enquired about students' socio-demographic and economic characteristics. Our results indicate that adolescents that had problem with gambling or had at least one pathological item on DSM were more likely to be boys and to have been born in a country other than Greece.

If they gambled, feedbacks were either positively or negatively valenced words; if they did not gamble, feedback was the word 'safe'. We assessed how emotionally valenced words were processed in the two languages, and how this processing influenced subsequent decision making. Overall, we found evidence that in L2 context, but not in L1 context, loss aversion was mediated by the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC) which also showed strong functional connectivity with the visual cortex, suggesting an avoidance mechanism for negative stimuli in L2. However, we also found an enhanced response to positive feedbacks in L2 compared to L1, as evidenced by greater activation of the hippocampus for win feedbacks compared to safe feedbacks in L2, eventually resulting in a greater tendency to gamble.     A retrospective, case-control study. Forty-four consecutive eyes from 44 patients received MB surgery for myopic FD between November 2017 and January 2019 were included. The eyes were divided into two groups according to the integrity of EZ on spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) 28 eyes with disrupted EZ band and 16 eyes with intact EZ band. The mean follow-up time was 17.64 ± 6.61 and 16.06 ± 5.78 months in the disrupted EZ and intact EZ group, respectively (P = 0.430).
