Despite the toxin concentrations far exceeding natural conditions during a bloom event (maximum dosage = 15.4 μg/L), **-LR was completely removed within 21 h of contact time in the biotic columns. Stimulation of community taxa during the degradation process included Burkholderiaceae, Illumatobacteraceae, Pseudomonadaceae, Rhodocyclaceae and Nitrosomonadaceae. The sorption of oil was primarily via the role of van der Waals force and hydrophobic interaction. A probabilistic risk assessment model was developed to explore the health effects of street dust on street sweepers via Monte Carlo simulation. The various exposure parameters that affect risk were analyzed using sensitivity analysis. The average Cd, Pb, and As levels in the hair of street sweepers were 2.04, 20.12, and 0.52 mg·kg-1, respectively. These values were higher than those for residents (i.e., not street sweepers) of Huludao. Strong correlations were found between the logarithms (base 10) of the Cd, Pb, and As contents in dust and hair (rCd = 0.581, p less then 0.01; rPb = 0.428, p less then 0.01; rAs = 0.378, p less then 0.01; n = 62). In oceanic air from the Taiwan Western Strait, fluorotelomer alcohol (FTOH) and the ionic PFAS [perfluoroalkyl sulfonic acid (PFSA) and perfluoroalkyl carboxylic acid (PFCA)] were found in 76% and 7% respectively. Regional comparison of air/water exchange (KAW) and gas-particle (Kp) partition coefficients of PFAS in the oceanic environment indicated potential partitioning of ionic PFAS between surface seawater and oceanic air. Adenomyosis and endometriosis are common causes of pelvic pain in women of reproductive age. Furthermore, adenomyosis is a major cause of menorrhagia. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Etonogestrel implants on pelvic pain and menstrual flow in women requiring long-acting reversible contraception and suffering from adenomyosis or endometriosis.One hundred women with adenomyosis or endometriosis and asking for contraception with Etonogestrel implants were enrolled in this study and were followed-up for 24 months. Gastroesophageal reflux (GER) in radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) occurs due to vagal plexus damage during pulmonary vein isolation. We hypothesized that the frequency of GER in the oropharynx will be less compared to other areas (low-esophagus, mid-esophagus). We confirmed the frequency of GER before and after RFCA in 3 areas.We studied 30 patients who were scheduled for RFCA under general anesthesia. Anesthesia was performed using supraglottic devices (SGD) with a suction port. Two esophageal temperature probes capable of suction and measuring temperature were inserted through the suction port. The pH of the 3 areas was measured before and after the RFCA at 3 areas (mid-esophagus, low-esophagus, and oropharynx).GER was observed in 13 of 30 patients (43%). In one patient, it was observed in the oropharynx, in 4 patients it was observed in the mid-esophagus, and in 13 patients, it was observed in the low-esophagus. For patients with GER at the oropharynx and mid-esophagus, it was also observed at ther SGD extubation did not occur. Therefore, the use of SGDs in RFCA does not completely eliminate the possibility of aspiration, so care should be taken.
The goals of improving quality of life and increasing longevity are receiving growing amounts of attention. Body weight and lipid metabolism are closely related to various complications of diabetes. The aim of this study was to rank SGLT inhibitors according to their efficacy with regard to weight and evaluate the effect of SGLT inhibitors on lipid metabolism at 24 weeks of treatment.
The Web of Science, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, and Clinical Trials databases were electronically searched to collect randomized controlled trials involving patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus through June 2020. Two researchers independently screened and evaluated the selected studies and extracted the outcome indexes. ADDIS 1.16.5 and STATA 16 software were used to perform the network meta-analysis and draw the plots.
Ultimately, 36 studies were selected and included in this study. We found that all SGLT inhibitors were effective at reducing weight; canagliflozin was the most effective. SGLT inhibitors and placebo were not associated with significantly different serum cholesterol levels. SGLT inhibitors lowered serum triglyceride levels and increased serum high-density and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels. SGLT inhibitors also reduced the level of alanine aminotransferase.
SGLT inhibitors can bring about weight loss in patients with T2DM and can also improve lipid metabolism. Therefore, patients with hyperlipidemia who have been unsuccessful at losing weight should consider taking SGLT inhibitors. In addition, SGLT inhibitors are hepatoprotective and appear to be safe for patients with mild to moderate liver dysfunction.

Lung cancer (LC), with the high incidence in malignant tumors in the world, and seriously affects people's lives and brings a great economic burden. Previous clinical studies on Shen-****-Bai-Zhu-San (SLBZS) combined with chemotherapy for the treatment of lung cancer have been increasing, but there are no systematic reviews. This study aims to systematically study the efficacy and safety of SLBZS combined with chemotherapy in the treatment of LC.
The Chinese and English databases will be searched by us for related documents, and the search time limit is January 2021. Databases including PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, Chinese databases include China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Data, ChongqingVIP Information Resource Integration Service Platform, China Biomedical Literature. The international clinical trial registration platform and the Chinese clinical trial registration platform will be searched by us to find ongoing or unpublished trials. After screening the literature based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, 2 researchers independently extracted data. The primary outcomes were the treatment efficiency. RevMan 5.3.5 software will be used for statistical analysis. The Recommendation, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) system will be used to evaluate the quality evidence of each result.
This study will provide the latest evidence for the SLBZS combined with chemotherapy for LC.
The efficacy and safety of SLBZS combined with chemotherapy for LC will be evaluated.

Yet, there is limited research on (a) the genetic and environmental aetiology of such relationships; (b) sex differences in aetiology and (c) non-European samples. In this study, we investigated the genetic and environmental variation and covariation of anxiety symptoms and eight components of health-related quality of life (QoL), as measured by the short form health survey (SF-36), using genetic twin model fitting analysis. Data was drawn from the Colombo Twin and Singleton Study (COTASS), a population-based sample in Sri Lanka with data on twins (N = 2921) and singletons (N = 1027). Individual differences in anxiety and QoL traits showed more shared environmental (family) effects in women. Men did not show familial effects. Anxiety negatively correlated with all eight components of QoL, mostly driven by overlapping unique (individual-specific) environmental effects in both sexes and overlapping shared environmental effects in women. This is the first study in a South Asian population supporting the association between poor mental health and reduced QoL, highlighting the value of integrated healthcare services. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of farnesol on both the planktonic and biofilm forms of Candida species by colorimetric, microbiological, and electron microscopic methods. Obtained results demonstrated the inhibitory effect of farnesol on the planktonic and biofilm forms of Candida. Farnesol showed a biofilm-enhancing effect at lower concentrations. CIMT in randomized controlled trials for statins therapies were included for traditional and network meta-analyses analyzed by Stata 16. The quality of included studies was assessed by the Cochrane Collaboration's tool.
Thirty-three randomized controlled trials (n=8762) were eligible for network meta-analysis, of which 18 randomized controlled trials (n=5252) were included for comparison between statins and no statins and 11 randomized controlled trials (n=1338) were included for comparison between high-intensity statins or combination with niacin/ezetimibe and moderate/low-intensity statins in 2 traditional meta-analyses. In the traditional meta-analyses, the statins groups significantly reduce CIMT compared to no statins (standard mean difference=-0.207, 95% confidence interval -0.291 to -0.123, p<0.001), while high-intensity statins or combination with niacin/ezetimibe performed significant CIMT reduction compared to moderate/low-intensity statins (standard mean difference=-0.287, 95% confidence interval -0.460 to -0.114, p=0.001). Yet, there is limited research on (a) the genetic and environmental aetiology of such relationships; (b) sex differences in aetiology and (c) non-European samples. In this study, we investigated the genetic and environmental variation and covariation of anxiety symptoms and eight components of health-related quality of life (QoL), as measured by the short form health survey (SF-36), using genetic twin model fitting analysis. Data was drawn from the Colombo Twin and Singleton Study (COTASS), a population-based sample in Sri Lanka with data on twins (N = 2921) and singletons (N = 1027). Individual differences in anxiety and QoL traits showed more shared environmental (family) effects in women. Men did not show familial effects. Anxiety negatively correlated with all eight components of QoL, mostly driven by overlapping unique (individual-specific) environmental effects in both sexes and overlapping shared environmental effects in women. This is the first study in a South Asian population supporting the association between poor mental health and reduced QoL, highlighting the value of integrated healthcare services. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical and microbiological efficacy of adjunctive local delivery of minocycline (Periocline®) in patients receiving supportive periodontal therapy (SPT) after initial treatment.
The participants were 16 men and 8 women (age, 20-65 years) who had at least 15 natural teeth, underwent SPT for more than 1 year due to chronic periodontitis, had 4 or more periodontal pocket sites deeper than 5 mm, and showed >25% gingival bleeding on probing (BoP). They were randomly assigned to the test and control groups. In the test group, mechanical debridement and local antibiotic delivery were performed for all periodontal sulci/pockets; in the control group, mechanical debridement and saline irrigation were performed. In patients who underwent SPT for more than 1 year, clinical and microbiological examinations were performed at baseline and 1 and 3 months after SPT. The clinical examination included an assessment of the periodontal pocket depth, clinical attachment level, plaque inde delivery of antibiotics was not significant. The ratios of P. gingivalis and F. nucleatum showed a tendency to decrease in the test group, although it was not significant.
Various crosslinking methods have been introduced to increase the longevity of collagen membranes. The aim of this study was to compare and evaluate the degradation and bone regeneration patterns of 3 collagen membranes.
Four 8-mm-diameter circular bone defects were created in the calvaria of 10 rabbits. In each rabbit, each defect was randomly allocated to 1) the sham control group, 2) the non-crosslinked collagen sponge (NS) group, 3) the chemically crosslinked collagen membrane (CCM) group, or 4) the biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP)-supplemented ultraviolet (UV)-crosslinked collagen membrane (UVM) group. Each defect was covered with the allocated membrane without any graft material. Rabbits were sacrificed at either 2 or 8 weeks post-surgery, and radiographic and histologic analyses were done.
New bone formed underneath the membrane in defects in the CCM and UVM groups, with a distinctive new bone formation pattern, while new bone formed from the base of the defect in the NS and control groups. The CCM maintained its shape until 8 weeks, while the UVM and NS were fully degraded at 8 weeks; simultaneously, sustained inflammatory infiltration was found in the margin of the CCM, while it was absent in the UVM. In conclusion, the CCM showed longer longevity than the UVM, but was accompanied by higher levels of inflammation.
Both the CCM and UVM showed distinctive patterns of enhancement in new bone formation in the early phase. UV crosslinking can be a biocompatible alternative to chemical crosslinking.

The present study was undertaken to examine whether periodontal probe visibility (PV) accurately reflects gingival thickness (GT) and to identify factors affecting PV using cluster and multivariate analyses.
The clinical characteristics of the maxillary central incisors (n=90 subjects) were examined. Clinical photographs, sex, PV, probing depth, gingival width, papilla height, GT as measured with an ultrasonic device, and the ratio of crown width to crown length were recorded. The aim of this study was to compare the characteristic expression patterns of advanced periodontitis in 2 cohort data sets analyzed using different microarray platforms, and to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) through a meta-analysis of both data sets.
Twenty-two patients for cohort 1 and 40 patients for cohort 2 were recruited with the same inclusion criteria. The 2 cohort groups were analyzed using different platforms Illumina and Agilent. A meta-analysis was performed to increase reliability by removing statistical differences between platforms. An integrative meta-analysis based on an empirical Bayesian methodology (ComBat) was conducted. DEGs for the integrated data sets were identified using the
package to adjust for age, sex, and platform and compared with the results for cohorts 1 and 2. Clustering and pathway analyses were also performed.
This study detected 557 and 246 DEGs in cohorts 1 and 2, respectively, with 146 and 42 significantly enriched gene ontology (GO) terms. Overlapping between cohorts 1 and 2 was present in 59 DEGs and 18 GO terms. However, only 6 genes from the top 30 enriched DEGs overlapped, and there were no overlapping GO terms in the top 30 enriched pathways. The integrative meta-analysis detected 34 DEGs, of which 10 overlapped in all the integrated data sets of cohorts 1 and 2.

While there is behavioral and anatomical evidence that coleoid cephalopods use their arms to "taste" substances in the environment, the neurophysiology of chemosensation has been largely unexamined. The range and sensitivity of detectable chemosensory stimuli, and the processing of chemosensory information, are unknown. To begin to address these issues, we developed a technique for recording neurophysiological responses from isolated arms, allowing us to test responses to biologically relevant stimuli. We tested arms from both a pelagic species (Doryteuthis pealeii) and a benthic species (Octopus bimaculoides) by attaching a suction electrode to the axial nerve cord to record neural activity in response to chemical stimuli. Doryteuthis pealeii arms showed anecdotal responses to some stimuli but generally did not tolerate the preparation; tissue was nonviable within minutes ex vivo. Octopus bimaculoides arms were used successfully, with tissue remaining healthy and responsive for several hours. Arms responded strongly to fish skin extract, glycine, methionine, and conspecific skin extract but not to cephalopod ink or seawater controls. Motor responses were also observed in response to detected stimuli. These results suggest that chemosensory receptor cells on O. bimaculoides arms were able to detect environmentally relevant chemicals and drive local motor responses within the arm. Further exploration of potential chemical stimuli for O. bimaculoides arms, as well as investigations into the neural processing within the arm, could enhance our understanding of how this species uses its arms to explore its environment. While not successful in D. pealeii, this technique could be attempted with other cephalopod species, as comparative questions remain of interest.OBJECTIVE Increasing use of continuous glucose monitoring data has created an array of glucose metrics for glucose variability, temporal patterns and times in ranges. However, a gold standard metric has not been defined. We assess the performance of multiple glucose metrics to determine their ability to detect intra- and inter-person variability in order to determine a set of recommended metrics. METHODS The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) dataset, a randomized controlled study of continuous glucose monitoring and self-monitored blood glucose conducted in children and adults with type 1 diabetes was used. To determine the ability of the evaluated glycemic metrics to discriminate between different subjects and attenuate the effect of within-subject variation, the Discriminant Ratio was calculated and compared for each metric. Then, the findings were confirmed using data from two other recent randomized clinical trials. RESULTS Mean Absolute Glucose (MAG) has the highest discriminant ratio value (2.98 [95% CI 1.64-3.67]). In addition, Low Blood Glucose Index (LBGI) and Index of Glycemic Control (IGC) performed well (1.93 [95% CI 1.15-3.44] and 1.92 [95% CI 1.27-2.93], respectively). For percentage times in glucose target ranges, the optimal discriminator was percentage time in glucose target 70-180 mg/dL. CONCLUSIONS Mean Absolute Glucose (MAG) is the optimal index to differentiate glucose variability in people with type 1 diabetes, and may be a complementary therapeutic monitoring tool in addition to HbA1c and a measure of hypoglycemia. Sleep was measured in two ways sleep efficiency (via actigraphy) and perceived sleep quality (via self-report). Sleep efficiency was higher when participants were exposed to their partner's scent. This increase occurred regardless of participants' beliefs about the origin of the scent. Perceived sleep quality was higher when participants believed that they were smelling their partner's scent. Exposure to a partner's scent led sleep efficiency to increase by more than 2% on average, an improvement similar in magnitude to the effect of melatonin on sleep. In this review, we summarize current evidence for the identity of ion channels in SCN neurons and the mechanisms by which they set the rhythmic parameters of the time code. During the day, voltage-dependent and independent Na+ and Ca2+ currents, as well as several K+ currents, contribute to increased membrane excitability and therefore higher firing frequency.

Octopus bimaculoides arms were used successfully, with tissue remaining healthy and responsive for several hours. Arms responded strongly to fish skin extract, glycine, methionine, and conspecific skin extract but not to cephalopod ink or seawater controls. Motor responses were also observed in response to detected stimuli. These results suggest that chemosensory receptor cells on O. bimaculoides arms were able to detect environmentally relevant chemicals and drive local motor responses within the arm. However, a gold standard metric has not been defined. We assess the performance of multiple glucose metrics to determine their ability to detect intra- and inter-person variability in order to determine a set of recommended metrics. METHODS The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) dataset, a randomized controlled study of continuous glucose monitoring and self-monitored blood glucose conducted in children and adults with type 1 diabetes was used. To determine the ability of the evaluated glycemic metrics to discriminate between different subjects and attenuate the effect of within-subject variation, the Discriminant Ratio was calculated and compared for each metric. Then, the findings were confirmed using data from two other recent randomized clinical trials. RESULTS Mean Absolute Glucose (MAG) has the highest discriminant ratio value (2.98 [95% CI 1.64-3.67]). In addition, Low Blood Glucose Index (LBGI) and Index of Glycemic Control (IGC) performed well (1.93 [95% CI 1.15-3.44] and 1.92 [95% CI 1.27-2.93], respectively). Recently, a Screening Protocol for Antenatal Depression (SPADe) that can be used by midwives to screen for antenatal depression was developed in Blantyre District. SPADe proposes multistage screening of antenatal depression by midwives which may enable early detection and treatment of pregnant women with depression. Proper treatment of antenatal depression can assist in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). However, utilisation of SPADe in clinical practice to screening for depression in antenatal clinics has not been established yet. Therefore, the primary aim of this study is to assess feasibility of screening for depression by midwives using SPADe in antenatal clinics in Blantyre District. Intellectual disability (ID) is a type of developmental disability that results in delays in cognitive or intellectual functioning, such as reasoning, learning, and problem-solving, and adaptive behaviors including social and practical life skills. DD can be due to a variety of factors, ranging from environmental exposures to genetic mutations, and studies suggest that up to 40% of DDs may be caused by genetic issues.
In this case study, we present an 18-year-old internationally adopted female Chinese American patient with a known history of developmental delay, intellectual disability, strabismus, and a congenital heart defect who had not been tested for genetic causes of her delay prior to presentation. When evaluated with chromosomal microarray, the patient demonstrated a deletion on the short arm of chromosome 5, an area associated with Cri-du-cses and provide more targeted resources to families.
To identify indicators of guideline-concordant care in lung cancer, to implement such indicators with cancer registry data linked to health databases, and to pilot them in a cohort of patients from the cancer registry of the Milan Province.
Thirty-four indicators were selected by revision of main guidelines by cancer epidemiologists, and then evaluated by a multidisciplinary panel of clinicians involved in lung cancer care and working on the pathway of lung cancer diagnosis and treatment in the Lombardy region, Italy. With a modified Delphi method, they assessed for each indicator the content validity as a quality measure of the care pathway, the degree of modifiability from the health professional, and the relevance to the health professional. Feasibility was assessed using the cancer registry and the routine health records of the Lombardy region. Feasible indicators were then calculated in the cohort of lung cancer patients diagnosed in 2007-2012 derived from the cancer registry of the Milan Province. Criterion validity was assessed reviewing clinical records of a random sample of 114 patients (threshold for acceptable discordance ≤20%). Finally, reliability was evaluated at the provider level.
Initially, 34 indicators were proposed for evaluation in the first Delphi round. Of the finally 22 selected indicators, 3 were not feasible because the required information was actually not available. The remaining 19 were calculated on the pilot cohort. After assessment of criterion validity (3 eliminated), 16 indicators were retained in the final set and evaluated for reliability.
The developed and piloted set of indicators is now available to implement and monitor, over time, quality initiatives for lung cancer care in the studied health system.

Of 99 eyes enrolled, 25 had CME while 74 had nCME. Patients with CME underwent greater numbers of surgeries (P < 0.0001). The most abundant microbial metabolic pathways were those related to fatty-acid biosynthesis, carbon metabolism and amino-acid metabolism on the tumor surface carbohydrate metabolism and organic polymer degradation were elevated in tumor tissues. The bacteriome of saliva from patients with oral cancer differed significantly from paired tumor tissue in terms of community structure, however remained similar at taxonomic and metabolic levels except for elevated abundances of Streptococcus, Lactobacillus and Bacteroides, and acetoin-biosynthesis, respectively. We show that the noise inherent in unconstrained Swarm gravity solutions is greatly reduced, that basin averages can have root mean square errors reduced to the order of [Formula see text] of equivalent water height, and that useful information can be retrieved for basins as small as [Formula see text]. In recent years, the thorough biochemical and genetic characterisation of the enzymes and proteins of the Met1-linked ubiquitin signalling machinery has paved the way for substantial advances in our understanding of how Met1-linked ubiquitin chains control cell signalling and biology. Here, we review current knowledge and recent insights into the role of Met1-linked ubiquitin chains in cell signalling with an emphasis on their role in disease biology. Met1-linked ubiquitin has potent regulatory functions in immune signalling, NF-κB transcription factor activation, and cell death. Importantly, mounting evidence shows that dysregulation of Met1-linked ubiquitin signalling is associated with multiple human diseases, including immune disorders, cancer, and neurodegeneration. We discuss the latest evidence on the cellular function of Met1-linked ubiquitin in the context of its associated diseases and highlight new emerging roles of Met1-linked ubiquitin chains in cell signalling, including regulation of protein quality control and metabolism.Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) integrated with a linear accelerator is widely used to increase the accuracy of radiotherapy and plays an important role in image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT). For comparison with fan-beam computed tomography (FBCT), the image quality of CBCT is indistinct due to X-ray scattering, noise, and artefacts. We proposed a deep learning model, "Cycle-Deblur GAN", combined with CycleGAN and Deblur-GAN models to improve the image quality of chest CBCT images. The 8706 CBCT and FBCT image pairs were used for training, and 1150 image pairs were used for testing in deep learning. The generated CBCT images from the Cycle-Deblur GAN model demonstrated closer CT values to FBCT in the lung, breast, mediastinum, and sternum compared to the CycleGAN and RED-CNN models. The quantitative evaluations of MAE, PSNR, and SSIM for CBCT generated from the Cycle-Deblur GAN model demonstrated better results than the CycleGAN and RED-CNN models. The Cycle-Deblur GAN model improved image quality and CT-value accuracy and preserved structural details for chest CBCT images.

Importantly, selection of the principal source of microbial DNA is key to ensure reliable, reproducible and comparable results in microbiome studies.The Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) mission has enabled mass changes and transports in the hydrosphere, cryosphere and oceans to be quantified with unprecedented resolution. However, while this legacy is currently being continued with the GRACE Follow-On (GRACE-FO) mission there is a gap of 11 months between the end of GRACE and the start of GRACE-FO which must be addressed. Here we bridge the gap by combining time-variable, low-resolution gravity models derived from European Space Agency's Swarm satellites with the dominating spatial modes of mass variability obtained from GRACE. We show that the noise inherent in unconstrained Swarm gravity solutions is greatly reduced, that basin averages can have root mean square errors reduced to the order of [Formula see text] of equivalent water height, and that useful information can be retrieved for basins as small as [Formula see text]. It is found that Swarm data contains sufficient information to inform the leading three global mass modes found in GRACE at the least. By comparing monthly reconstructed maps to GRACE data from December 2013 to June 2017, we suggest the uncertainty of these maps to be [Formula see text] of equivalent water height.Post-translational modification of proteins with ubiquitin (ubiquitination) provides a rapid and versatile mechanism for regulating cellular signalling systems. The molecular machinery that assembles, senses, and disassembles Met1-linked ubiquitin chains is highly specific. In recent years, the thorough biochemical and genetic characterisation of the enzymes and proteins of the Met1-linked ubiquitin signalling machinery has paved the way for substantial advances in our understanding of how Met1-linked ubiquitin chains control cell signalling and biology. Here, we review current knowledge and recent insights into the role of Met1-linked ubiquitin chains in cell signalling with an emphasis on their role in disease biology. Met1-linked ubiquitin has potent regulatory functions in immune signalling, NF-κB transcription factor activation, and cell death. Importantly, mounting evidence shows that dysregulation of Met1-linked ubiquitin signalling is associated with multiple human diseases, including immune disorders, cancer, and neurodegeneration. We discuss the latest evidence on the cellular function of Met1-linked ubiquitin in the context of its associated diseases and highlight new emerging roles of Met1-linked ubiquitin chains in cell signalling, including regulation of protein quality control and metabolism.Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) integrated with a linear accelerator is widely used to increase the accuracy of radiotherapy and plays an important role in image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT). For comparison with fan-beam computed tomography (FBCT), the image quality of CBCT is indistinct due to X-ray scattering, noise, and artefacts. We proposed a deep learning model, "Cycle-Deblur GAN", combined with CycleGAN and Deblur-GAN models to improve the image quality of chest CBCT images. The 8706 CBCT and FBCT image pairs were used for training, and 1150 image pairs were used for testing in deep learning. The generated CBCT images from the Cycle-Deblur GAN model demonstrated closer CT values to FBCT in the lung, breast, mediastinum, and sternum compared to the CycleGAN and RED-CNN models. The quantitative evaluations of MAE, PSNR, and SSIM for CBCT generated from the Cycle-Deblur GAN model demonstrated better results than the CycleGAN and RED-CNN models. In order to control air pollution better, China has adopted the central environmental inspection mechanism. This paper adopts the data of 290 prefecture-level cities in China to evaluate the air improvement effect of the central environmental inspection mechanism. Firstly, based on the Mechanism Design Theory and Principal-agent Theory, this paper analyzes the government incentive measures and effort levels under the conditions of information as symmetry and asymmetry. Then, this paper introduces Regression Discontinuity Design (RDD) Model to evaluate the air improvement effect of the central environmental inspection mechanism. Lastly, this paper explores the sustainability of the environmental inspection mechanism through the regression analysis of environmental inspection revisit. The results show that under the condition of information symmetry, the central government can make the local governments reach the Pareto optimal effort level through the design of incentive contract. In a short period of time, the first round of environmental inspection and environmental inspection revisit have significantly improved air quality, and significantly reduced PM2.5 and PM10 and other major single pollutants. In general, this system has had an immediate effect. The environmental inspection revisit has also significantly reduced the concentrations of AQI, PM2.5 and PM10. Compared with the first round of environmental inspection and environmental inspection revisit, the latter has a higher level of air pollution reduction and better effect. The sustainability of the improvement effect of environmental inspection mechanism is questioned. In the short-term, however, the drought condition and decreased precipitation (as natural factors) explained the majority of the change in vegetation cover. For example, the majority of the breakpoints occurred in 2008, and it was related to a widespread extreme drought in the area. The watershed management practice as a human activity along with extreme climatic events could explain a large part of the vegetation changes observed in the treated and control watersheds.Human-wildlife conflicts are a challenge in parks and protected areas around the world. By using virtual reality technology and simulations, this study assessed how physical landscape features (i.e., an open field, deadfall, and a paved road) impact wildlife viewing norms and also compared norms among three different wildlife species (i.e., bison, bear, and elk). Data were analyzed with repeated measures ANOVA to explore how these factors influenced acceptability ratings of distances between people and wildlife. Results revealed a significant interaction between distance to wildlife and landscape features. Recommendations for improving the management of humanwildlife conflicts and future research directions are discussed.Spatio-temporal behaviour of dissolved organic carbon (DOC), inorganic carbon (DIC) and silica (DSi) along the salinity gradient of three south-west Indian monsoonal estuaries are presented. This study showed both conservative and non-conservative behaviour of DOC along the salinity gradient under varying physico-chemical conditions. The gross flux of DOC arriving at the estuary from the rivers was estimated as 0.9 × 109 g/yr for Sita-Swarna river, 4.2 × 109 g/yr for Sharavati river and 5.6 × 109 g/yr for Kali river. Similarly, the net fluxes of DOC estimated beyond the estuarine zone was 5.5 × 109 g/yr (Sita-Swarna), 8.0 × 109 g/yr (Sharavati) and 7.7 × 109 g/yr (Kali). This indicates that these estuaries are the sources of organic carbon to the ocean. The DIC linearly increased towards the higher salinity with net fluxes of 38 × 109 g/yr (Sita-Swarna), 75 × 109 g/yr (Sharavati) and 97 × 109 g/yr (Kali). The combined DIC flux of Sita-Swarna, Sharavati and Kali rivers is ~8% of the total DIC fluxes received from the west flowing rivers of India, to the Arabian Sea. The DSi showed a biogenic removal of 80-85% in all the studied estuaries. From this study it is concluded that the west flowing river estuaries are net sources of DOC and DIC and net sink for DSi. Consideration of the role of west flowing rivers of peninsular India is important for the better understanding of the carbon dynamics in the river-estuary-ocean boundary.Fire is one of the most powerful modifiers of the Amazonian landscape and knowledge about its drivers is needed for planning control and suppression. A plethora of factors may play a role in the annual dynamics of fire frequency, spanning the biophysical, climatic, socioeconomic and institutional dimensions. To uncover the main forces currently at play, we investigated the area burned in both forested and deforested areas in the outstanding case of Brazil's state of Acre, in southwestern Amazonia. We mapped burn scars in already-deforested areas and intact forest based on satellite images from the Landsat series analyzed between 2016 and 2019. The mapped burnings in already-deforested areas totalled 550,251 ha. In addition, we mapped three forest fires totaling 34,084 ha. Fire and deforestation were highly correlated, and the latter occurred mainly in federal government lands, with protected areas showing unprecedented forest fire levels in 2019. These results indicate that Acre state is under increased fire risk even during average rainfall years.

Following their generation by lipid kinases and phosphatases, phosphoinositides regulate important biological processes such as cytoskeleton rearrangement, membrane remodeling/trafficking, and gene expression through the interaction of their phosphorylated inositol head group with a variety of protein domains such as PH, PX, and FYVE. Therefore, it is important to determine the specificity of phosphoinositides toward effector proteins to understand their impact on cellular physiology. Several methods have been developed to identify and characterize phosphoinositide effectors, and liposomes-based methods are preferred because the phosphoinositides are incorporated in a membrane, the composition of which can mimic cellular membranes. In this report, we describe the experimental setup for liposome flotation assay and a recently developed method called protein-lipid interaction by fluorescence (PLIF) for the characterization of phosphoinositide-binding specificities of proteins.Phosphoinositides interact with proteins to fulfill various functions in the cell. In many cases, they specifically recruit peripheral membrane proteins to biological membranes. The analysis of their interactions with proteins is therefore essential for understanding the underlying processes. Native mass spectrometry (MS) preserves noncovalent interactions in the gas phase of a mass spectrometer and is therefore well-suited to study protein-phosphoinositide interactions. In this protocol, we describe the application of native MS to integral and peripheral membrane proteins and their interactions with lipids. Among seven phosphoinositide members, phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PtdIns(4,5)P2, also known as PI(4,5)P2 or PIP2) is abundant in the plasma membrane. Besides its role in the second messenger pathway of phospholipase C that cleaves PtdIns(4,5)P2 to form diacylglycerol and inositol-1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP3), PtdIns(4,5)P2 regulates membrane trafficking and the function of the cytoskeleton, ion channels, and transporters.
