Multidrug resistance (MDR) transporters of the major facilitator superfamily (MFS) were previously believed to drive the extrusion of multiple antimicrobial drugs through the coupling to proton translocation. Here, we present the identification of the first Na+-coupled MFS-MDR transporter, MdrP, which also can achieve H+-coupled drug efflux independently of Na+. Importantly, we propose that MdrP can extrude norfloxacin in a mode of drug/Na+ antiport, which has not yet been reported in any MFS member. On this basis, we further provide the insights into a novel Na+ and H+ coupling mechanism of MFS-MDR transporters, even for all secondary transporters. The most important finding lies in that D223 should mainly act as a key determinant in the Na+ translocation coupled to norfloxacin efflux. Furthermore, our results partially modify the knowledge of the conformational stability-related residues in the motif A of MFS transporters and imply the importance of a new positively charged residue, R361, for the stabilization of outward-facing conformation of MFS transporters. These novel findings positively contribute to the knowledge of MFS-MDR transporters, especially about Na+ and H+ coupling mechanism. This study is based mainly on measurements in intact cells or everted membranes, and a biochemical assay with a reconstituted MdrP protein should be necessary to come to conclusion to be assured.Numerous studies have recently reported on the discovery of bee viruses in different arthropod species and their possible transmission routes, vastly increasing our understanding of these viruses and their distribution. Among all 71 isolates, 47 isolates of Klebsiella pneumoniae (66.2%), eight Escherichia coli (11.2%), five Serratia marcescens (7%), and two Enterobacter cloacae (2.8%) harbored bla NDM-1 and bla OXA-48 genes together or alone. Our findings provide novel epidemiologic data on carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales (CPE) in Iran and highlight the importance of horizontal gene transfer in the dissemination of bla NDM-1 and bla OXA-48 genes. The occurrence and transmission of distinct K. pneumoniae clones call for improved infection control to prevent further spread of these pathogens in Iran.Microbial communities are continuously exposed to the arrival of alien species. In complex environments such as soil, the success of invasion depends on the characteristics of the habitat, especially the diversity and structure of the residing bacterial communities. While most data available on microbial invasion relies on experiments run under constant conditions, the fate of invading species when the habitat faces disturbances has not yet been addressed. Here, we designed experiments to assess the consequences of habitat disturbance on the success of ongoing microbial invasion. We investigated (i) if disturbance-induced alterations in resident microbial communities could mitigate or facilitate invasion of Listeria monocytogenes, (ii) if disturbance itself could either improve or reduce the invader's fitness and (iii) if the invading species alters the structure of indigenous microbial communities. Our data show that environmental disturbances affect invasion patterns of L. monocytogenes in soils. Intriguingly, successful invasion was recorded in a regimen of disturbances that triggered small changes in microbial community structure while maintaining high bacterial diversity. On the opposite, dramatic decline of the invader was recorded when disturbance resulted in emergence of specific communities albeit concomitant with a diversity loss. This suggests that community composition is more important than its diversity when it comes to prevent the establishment of an invading species. Finally, shifts in bacterial communities during the disturbance event were strengthened by the presence of the invader indicating a major impact of invasion on microbial diversity when the habitat faces disturbance.Filamentous fungi are important organisms in traditionally prepared amylase and alcohol-producing dry starters in India. We collected 40 diverse types of amylase and alcohol-producing starters from eight states in North East India viz. marcha, thiat, humao, hamei, chowan, phut, dawdim, and khekhrii. The average fungal population was 4.9 × 105 cfu/g with an average of pH 5.3 and 10.7%, respectively. In the present study, 131 fungal isolates were isolated and characterized based on macroscopic and microscopic characteristics and were grouped into 44 representative fungal strains. Based on results of morphological characteristics and ITS gene sequencing, 44 fungal strains were grouped into three phyla represented by Ascomycota (48%), Mucoromycota (38%), and Basidiomycota (14%). Taxonomical keys to species level was illustrated on the basis of morphological characteristics and ITS gene sequencing, aligned to the fungal database of NCBI GenBank, which showed seven genera with 16 species represented by Mucor circinelloides (20%), Aspergillus sydowii (11%), Penicillium chrysogenum (11%), Bjerkandera adusta (11%), Penicillium citrinum (7%), Rhizopus oryzae (7%), Aspergillus niger (5%), Aspergillus flavus (5%), Mucor indicus (5%) Rhizopus microsporus (5%), Rhizopus delemar (2%), Aspergillus versicolor (2%), Penicillium oxalicum (2%), Penicillium polonicum (2%), Trametes hirsuta (2%), and Cladosporium parahalotolerans (2%).

Inhalants are legally available substances, most of them inexpensive, which are often abused by adolescents. Craving causes their continued use and repeated relapses. There is a need to understand the cue-induced craving and the associated neural mechanisms. In absence of any such prior study, the present study compared the hemodynamic changes in brain associated with craving effect in adolescent inhalant users and healthy controls using blood oxygen level dependent (BOLD) mechanism. This was an observational case control study with twelve adolescents, aged 12-18 years, with current use of inhalants as their primary drug, and twelve healthy, age and gender-matched adolescents, with no lifetime use of inhalants. Clinical assessments included Teen Addiction Severity Index and Visual Analogue Scale for craving. Participants abstained from all substances during 48 h prior to fMRI, confirmed by urinalysis. A validated visual cue block paradigm with neutral and craving cues was presented during the BOLD assessments in a 3 T MR system. The inhalant users exhibited BOLD activation in inferior frontal gyrus, inferior parietal lobule, superior occipital gyrus, cingulate gyrus, lentiform nucleus, thalamus, and culmen as compared to control group. The control group exhibited activation of insula as compared to cases. The results may be attributed to visuo-spatial attention, visual perception, working memory, and motivation associated with visual cue reactivity. This preliminary study provides important findings pertaining to activation patterns in response to cue-induced craving among adolescent inhalant users.Black liquor (BL) is an agro-industrial residue with high number of lignocellulosic components which could be recognized as a biomass feedstock. In this work, BL coupled with red mud (RM), were applied to prepare cost-effective zero-valent iron (ZVI) embedded in biochar. The oligomers in BL acted as reductants for RM to generate ZVI, while the organic components could be converted into biochar during pyrolysis. The RM/BL demonstrated excellent performance in the removal of Cr(VI) (349.5 mg/g), as the mechanisms were reduction and adsorption. The fixed-bed column study was conducted and 1.7 L simulated wastewater could be treated by 1.0 g RM/BL. After reaction, 95.5% ± 0.8% and 82.5%±3.2% Cr-loaded adsorbents could be recovered by an external magnet for batch and fixed-bed experiments, respectively. All these results shed light on valorizing these two widespread agro-industrial byproducts, and bridged the knowledge gap between magnetic bio-adsorbent preparation and its industrial practicality on wastewater purification.A novel seaweed-hydrolyzing strain designated as Pseudoalteromonas sp. Alg6B was isolated from the surface of brown seaweed (Laminaria japonica). The non-condensable gaseous stream is made up of mainly hydrogen, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide, apart from other light hydrocarbons detected in lower concentration, as are methane, ethane, ethylene, propane and propylene. The compounds identified in the bio-oil have been categorized into hydrocarbons, nitrogen containing compounds, ketones, alcohols, acids, lactones, phenols and aldehydes. The nitrogen and carbon contents of the microalgae bio-chars are higher than those for bio-chars derived from other biomasses. Pyrolysis improved the morphology and porous structure of microalgae. Finally, the mechanism involving microalgae pyrolysis has been approached and the main reaction pathways have been proposed.Wound healing process is a complex of overlapping and coordinated events progresses beyond the inflammatory phase toward wound resolution, whereas chronic wounds fail to terminate inflammatory phase and could not develop toward regenerative state. The immunopathology of chronic wounds has been attributed to the prolonged inflammation and dysregulation of microenvironments responsible for imbalance between pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory states, as well as cellular and tissue senescence. We here discuss that menstrual blood-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MenSCs) with their authentic functions especially immunosuppressive, angiogenic and migratory properties in combination with a bilayer amniotic membrane/nano-fibrous fibroin scaffold could bring about effective regenerative effects in healing of chronic wound. To debate, following evidences have been cumulated 1) Persistent pro-inflammatory state in chronic wound bed could inhibit wound resolution; 2) MenSCs exhibit noticeable regenerative, immunosuppressive effects and immunomodulatory activity, 3) The migratory characteristics of MenSCs may not be sufficient for their homing to chronic wounds site, and 4) Bilayer scaffold composed of amniotic membrane and silk fibroin induces MenSCs differentiation into keratinocyte-like cells and stimulates skin regeneration.Clonorchis sinensis could induce inflammation, epithelial hyperplasia and fibrosis in the intrahepatic bile duct as a food-borne parasite, which was associated with the development of cholangiocarcinoma (CCA). Praziquantel was the most effective drug on treatment of this kind of parasite. However, new drugs with minimal toxicity to the host were urgently needed due to the side effects of Praziquantel and its CCA risk. In this study, helminth mitochondria respiratory chain blocker Wortmannilatone F (WF) and IL-8 analogue CXCL8 (3-72) K11R/G31P were used to treat BALB/C **** infected by Clonorchis sinensis. We investigated the gross and histopathological morphology of the liver, inflammation-associated cytokine IL-6, lipid peroxidation-related proteins cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX), collagen fiber accumulation and fibroblast-specific protein 1 (FSP1), malignant markers proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) and cytokeratin 19 (CK19), as well as the disinfection effect on these parasites in vitro.

To evaluate the prevalence of altered touch perception in the feet of individuals with diabetes mellitus and the associated risk factors.
Cross-sectional study with 224 individuals with diabetes mellitus conducted in an endocrinology clinic at a public hospital in Campina Grande, Paraíba. The evaluation used touch sensitivity and perception, and a descriptive and multivariate analysis with Poisson regression was performed.
We found the prevalence of altered touch perception to be 53.1%. The risk factors that had a significant and joint impact on its occurrence were female gender; previous ulcer; diabetes mellitus type 2; burning sensation, cracks, fissures, calluses, and Charcot foot.
This study found a high prevalence of altered perception of touch, and this should support the planning of actions aimed at preventing the problem. The study showed the relevance of the phenomenon as a nursing diagnosis that could be included in NANDA-International.

Interviews were conducted with 13 men facing criminal proceedings for conjugal violence linked to the 2nd Vara De Justiça pela Paz Em Casa (2nd Court of Justice for Peace at Home), in the municipality of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, in April and July 2018. The data were organized according to thematic content analysis and interpreted in the light of the theoretical framework on gender.

Descriptive, exploratory, qualitative study carried with 62 health professionals. Critical Incident Technique was employed as the theoretical-methodological framework, along with Content Analysis for analyzing data.
Sixty-two health professionals - including 23 nurses, 20 physiotherapists and 19 doctors - took part in this study. Clusters for 89 critical incidents were obtained; 66 of them were considered positive, whereas 23 were negative. The situations associated to the provided services were discriminated in three categories recognition of patient clinical deterioration; rapid response team activation in the unit; and time until rapid response team arrival at the ward.
In spite of the difficulties faced by such professionals while providing care to patients who become severely ill in non-critical wards, positive reports were predominant in all categories, what legitimized this service's importance as a contribution to quality and safety of hospitalized patients.

The dependent variables were evaluated by Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry. The independent variables were evaluated through a questionnaire, anthropometric evaluation and blood collection. The association between bone mineral density and the independent variables was evaluated by linear regression analysis. All analyses were stratified by gender.
Men presented higher bone mineral density than women. Bone mineral density was inversely associated with age range and directly associated with nutritional status in both genders and in the three bone sites analyzed. In addition, 25 Hydroxyvitamin D deficient status among men and contraceptive use among women were associated with lower bone mineral density, and a significant association was only found with lumbar spine bone mineral density in women.

Cross-sectional study performed with nurses from 27 Brazilian states through application of the Brazilian Moral Distress Scale in Nurses (Portuguese acronym EDME-Br) and descriptive statistical analysis.
Participation of 1,226 Brazilian nurses in the study. The intensity and frequency of overall moral distress were rated as moderate level, with averages of 3.08 (± 1.45) and 2.94 (± 1.37), respectively. Specifically, the highest intensity and frequency was related to the factors Acknowledgement, power and professional identity and Work teams, while the lowest was related to the factor Defense of values and rights.
Moral distress occurs in precarious work environments, with little expressiveness of the nurses' role. One highlights the importance of the problem in terms of its amplitude and multicausality, reaching professionals acting in different work contexts.

Taken together, our results demonstrate that YhcB is involved in cell morphology and cell division in a membrane localization-independent manner.Mongolian sheep are an indigenous ruminant raised for wool and meat production in China. The gut microbial community plays an important role in animal performance and metabolism. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of two feeding regimens on the diversity and composition of gut microbiota and metabolite profiles of feces and plasma from Mongolian sheep. A total of 20 Mongolian sheep were assigned to one of two feeding regimens free grazing (FG) and barn confinement (**). When samples were collected, the average live weights of the sheep were 31.28 ± 1.56 kg and 34.18 ± 1.87 kg for the FG and ** groups, respectively. At the genus level, the FG group showed higher levels of Bacteroides, RC9_gut_group, Alistipes, Phocaeicola, Barnesiella, and Oscillibacter, and lower levels of Succinivibrio, Treponema, and Prevotella, compared to the ** group. The butyric acid content in feces was lower in the FG group (P > 0.05). Higher levels of palmitic acid, oleic acid, alpha-linolenic acid, L-carnitine, L-citrulline, and L-histidine, and lower levels of L-tyrosine, L-phenylalanine, and L-kynurenine were found in the plasma of the FG sheep. Moreover, there were substantial associations between several gut microbiota genera and alterations in feces and plasma metabolites especially those involved in the metabolism of butyric acid, linolenic acid, and L-tyrosine. However, their putative ligand-binding sites and active site residue compositions are dissimilar. Comparative sequence and structural analysis revealed that the active site of BoECI had one glutamate residue (Glu135), this site is occupied by an aspartate in some ECIs, and the active sites of HyECH had two highly conserved glutamate residues (Glu118 and Glu138). Moreover, HyECH possesses a salt bridge interaction between Glu98 and Arg152 near the active site. This interaction may allow the catalytic Glu118 residue to have a specific conformation for the ECH enzyme reaction. This salt bridge interaction is highly conserved in known bacterial ECH structures and ECI enzymes do not have this type of interaction. Growth of the strain RR4-38T was observed at 15-35·C (optimum, 25-30·C), pH 5.5-9.5 (optimum, pH 8.0), and in the presence of 0-5% (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 3%). Phylogenetic analysis based on the 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that the strain RR4-38T formed a distinct lineage with close genera Ulvibacter (≤ 95.01% 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity), Aureitalea (94.74%), Aureisphaera (≤ 93.27%), and Jejudonia (93.07%) that all belong to the family Flavobacteriaceae. Whole-genome sequence comparison revealed that the ANI (average nucleotide identity) and digital DDH (DNA-DNA hybridization) values between strain RR4-38T and the two closest strains, Ulvibacter antarcticus DSM 23424T and Aureitalea marina S1-66T, were 68.96-69.88% and 17.4-19%, respectively. The genome analysis revealed that the strain might be involved in biodegradation of organic debris produced by farmed fish in aquaculture systems. The predominant respiratory quinone was menaquinone MK-6 and the major cellular fatty acids were iso-C150 (26.5%), iso-C170 3-OH (16.4%), iso-C151 G (15%), and iso-C160 3-OH (9.6%). The major cellular polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, unidentified aminolipids, and glycolipids. Based on phenotypic, chemotaxonomic, and phylogenetic features, strain RR4-38t represents a novel genus and species in the family Flavobacteriaceae, for which the name Pukyongia salina gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. Fully endoscopic transforaminal discectomy can preserve normal bony structures during discectomy. The purpose of this study was to assess the clinical and radiological outcomes of fully endoscopic transforaminal discectomy for upward migrated upper lumbar herniated discs. All patients had upward migrated disc herniation from L1-L2 to L3-L4 levels and were treated using fully endoscopic transforaminal discectomy under local anesthesia. All enrolled patients were monitored for more than 12 months. Clinical outcomes were assessed using the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) and visual analog scale (VAS) of pain. Surgery-related complications were analyzed. In addition, radiological outcomes were investigated using postoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and lumbar dynamic X-ray. Twenty-eight patients were enrolled in this study. ODI and VAS significantly decreased after endoscopic transforaminal discectomy. Migrated ruptured disc particles were completely removed and confirmed on postoperative MRI in 26 of the 28 patients. Even though small remnant disc particles were detected in two patients, symptoms improved after endoscopic transforaminal discectomy. Early recurrence of herniated disc occurred at the operated segment in one patient. There were no significant complications associated with fully endoscopic transforaminal discectomy. Three patients experienced a postoperative transient tingling sensation and numbness of the leg. Fully endoscopic transforaminal lumbar discectomy may be an effective and alternative treatment option for upward migrated disc herniation in the upper lumbar area. The levels of faecal glucocorticoid metabolites (FGMs) were measured non-invasively on a daily basis during a 30-day period. A total of 510 faecal samples were collected. Concentrations of immunoreactive glucocorticoid hormone metabolites were measured in the obtained extracts by using an enzyme immunoassay. The polyclonal antibodies used in this assay were directed against the metabolite 11-oxo-etiocholanolone I. We found all three monitored lemur species to respond to specific potentially stressful situations by increasing (p less then 0.05) the FGM levels within one to two days after the event. Although housed in the same room, differences in response to potentially stressful situations were found in white-headed lemurs compared to ring-tailed lemurs. Increased mean levels of the FGMs were found more frequently in white-headed lemurs than in ring-tailed lemurs. The results suggest that this species may be more sensitive to changes in its surroundings. In general, the levels of the FGMs showed a similar pattern during 30 days of monitoring suggesting that all groups of lemurs responded in a similar manner to the same events. In our study, we identified the HWC situations in urban areas of Krakow city, based on animal-vehicle collisions, intrusion to property, and damages. Hot spot analysis and Moran's Index were used to identify the location of maximum potential conflict. We analysed 2512 incidents in which animals (of which 85% included mammals and 15% birds) were involved in conflict situations between 2007 and 2013. A significant seasonal variation was observed among the animals. We also identified roe deer (50.23%), red fox (22.80%) and wild boar (11.40%), as the three prominent conflicted animals. Getis-Ord Gi* analysis was used to identify spatial clusters of conflict. A significant spatial association was found in the location of clusters of hot spots in specific land-use based on Moran's Index. Hot spots of roe deer and wild boar were high in grasslands and in forest and for red fox in built-up area. The results underscore the notion that conservation and wildlife management efforts must take into account differences in the seasonality of HWC among species. Fully endoscopic transforaminal discectomy can preserve normal bony structures during discectomy. The purpose of this study was to assess the clinical and radiological outcomes of fully endoscopic transforaminal discectomy for upward migrated upper lumbar herniated discs. All patients had upward migrated disc herniation from L1-L2 to L3-L4 levels and were treated using fully endoscopic transforaminal discectomy under local anesthesia. All enrolled patients were monitored for more than 12 months. Clinical outcomes were assessed using the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) and visual analog scale (VAS) of pain. Surgery-related complications were analyzed. In addition, radiological outcomes were investigated using postoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and lumbar dynamic X-ray. Twenty-eight patients were enrolled in this study. ODI and VAS significantly decreased after endoscopic transforaminal discectomy. Migrated ruptured disc particles were completely removed and confirmed on postoperative MRI in 26 of the 28 patients. Even though small remnant disc particles were detected in two patients, symptoms improved after endoscopic transforaminal discectomy. Early recurrence of herniated disc occurred at the operated segment in one patient. There were no significant complications associated with fully endoscopic transforaminal discectomy. Three patients experienced a postoperative transient tingling sensation and numbness of the leg. Fully endoscopic transforaminal lumbar discectomy may be an effective and alternative treatment option for upward migrated disc herniation in the upper lumbar area. Chitosan, cellulose and nanocrystalline cellulose are examples of biopolymers that have been intensively studied due to their potential applications, particularly as sensors. Furthermore, the rapid use of conducting polymer materials as a sensing layer in environmental monitoring has also been developed. Thus, the incorporation of biopolymer and conducting polymer materials with various methods has shown promising potential with sensitively and selectively toward heavy metal ions. In this feature paper, selected recent and updated investigations are reviewed on biopolymer and conducting polymer-based materials in sensors aimed at the detection of heavy metal ions by optical methods. This review intends to provide sufficient evidence of the potential of polymer-based materials as sensing layers, and future outlooks are considered in developing surface plasmon resonance as an excellent and valid sensor for heavy metal ion detection.The focus on novel systems for transdermal delivery of therapeutic agents has increased considerably over recent years, as this administration route comes with many advantages. Polymeric microarray patches (MAPs) are minimally invasive devices that enable systemic delivery of a wide range of drugs by overcoming the outer skin barrier. Conventionally, MAPs fabricated by micromoulding have a low needle density. In this study, the performance of hydrogel-forming MAPs cast using novel industrially manufactured micromoulds with a high needle density (600 needles/0.75 cm2) was compared to that of MAPs obtained using conventional moulds with a lower density (196 needles/0.89 cm2). Surrounding holders for micromoulds were designed for time-efficient fabrication of MAPs. The influence of needle densities on mechanical strength, insertion efficiency and in vitro permeation of ibuprofen sodium (IBU) was analysed. Insertion of both MAPs into an artificial skin model and neonatal porcine skin was comparable. No significant difference was observed in permeation studies of IBU (p > 0.05), with a delivery of 8.7 ± 1.7 mg for low-density and 9.5 ± 0.1 mg for high-density MAPs within 24 h. Database matching with the reference proteomes resulted in the identification of 826 proteins. The Cluster of Gene Ontologies of the identified proteins revealed differences in bimolecular transport and protein synthesis mechanisms between these two strains. Among several other proteins, antifreeze proteins, Omp10, superoxide dismutase and 30S ribosomal protein S14 were predicted as potential virulence factors among the proteins differentially expressed. Endovascular BA temporary balloon occlusion (TBO) can reduce aneurysm sac pressure, facilitate dissection/clipping, and finally lower the risk of intraoperative rupture. We present our experience with TBO during aneurysm clipping of posterior circulation aneurysms within the setting of a hybrid operating room (hOR). We report one case each of a basilar tip, posterior cerebral artery, and superior cerebellar artery aneurysm that underwent surgical occlusion under TBO within an hOR. Surgical exposure of the BA was achieved with a pterional approach and selective anterior and posterior clinoidectomy. Intraoperative digital subtraction angiography (iDSA) was performed prior, during, and after aneurysm occlusion. Two patients presented with subarachnoid hemorrhage and one patient presented with an unruptured aneurysm. The intraluminal balloon was inserted through the femoral artery and inflated in the BA after craniotomy to allow further dissection of the parent vessel and branches needed for the preparation of the aneurysm neck. No complications during balloon inflation and aneurysm dissection occurred. Intraoperative aneurysm rupture prior to clipping did not occur. The duration of TBO varied between 9 and 11 min. Small neck aneurysm remnants were present in two cases (BA and PCA). Two patients recovered well with a GOS 5 after surgery and one patient died due to complications unrelated to surgery. Intraoperative TBO within the hOR is a feasible and safe procedure with no additional morbidity when using a standardized protocol and setting. No relevant side effects or intraoperative complications were present in this series. In addition, iDSA in an hOR facilitates the evaluation of the surgical result and 3D reconstructions provide documentation of potential aneurysm remnants for future follow-up.

Together, this work delineates a new role for Gmnn in modulating Hox expression to pattern the vertebrate limb.The abscisic acid (ABA) receptor binds to ABA in plants and can activate the ABA signaling pathway to initiate stress resistance. Sour jujube (Ziziphus jujuba Mill. var. spinosa (Bunge) Hu ex H. Chou) is an economic tree crop in North China, which is strongly adapted to drought and salt stress. Here, we cloned and overexpressed the ZjPYR1 gene in Arabidopsis thaliana. After ABA treatment, the accumulation of ZjPYR1 increased significantly, suggesting that ABA may stabilize ZjPYR1 in the plants. Compared with the wild-type, the heterologous transgenic lines showed smaller stomatal openings under ABA treatment and a shorter root length and lower germination rate under ABA and salt treatment. Based on these results, we speculate that the overexpression of ZjPYR1 in A. thaliana effectively enhanced the stress resistance of the plants, and furthermore, that ZjPYR1 is a putative ABA receptor in sour jujube that increases plant adaptability to drought and salt stress. We report that ZjPYR1, like most ABA receptors in A. thaliana, is involved in mediating plant responses to ABA, such as stomatal closure and root length.Study objective The objective of this study was to compare the morbidity of vaginal versus laparoscopic hysterectomy when performed with uterosacral ligament suspension. Design Retrospective propensity-score matched cohort study. Setting American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database. Patients We included all patients who had undergone uterosacral ligament suspension and concurrent total vaginal hysterectomy (TVH-USLS) or total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH-USLS) from 2010 to 2015. We excluded those who underwent laparoscopic-assisted vaginal hysterectomy, abdominal hysterectomy, other surgical procedures for apical pelvic organ prolapse, or had gynecologic malignancy. Interventions We compared 30-day complication rates in patients who underwent TVH-USLS versus TLH-USLS in both the total study population and a propensity score matched cohort. Measurements and main results The study population consisted of 3,349 patients who underwent TVH-USLS and 484 who underwent TLH-USLarge national cohort, TVH-USLS was associated with a higher composite complication rate than TLH-USLS, largely secondary to an increased rate of urinary tract infection. After matching, the groups had similar rates of serious complications. These data suggest that TLH-USLS should be viewed as a safe alternative to TVH-USLS.Objective Knowledge of the retroperitoneal anatomy is particularly important to facilitate surgical procedure and reduce the number of complications. The objective of this video is to demonstrate pelvic neuroanatomic structures and their relationships in the pelvic sidewall and the presacral space in a laparoscopic cadaveric dissection. Design Case report (anatomic study). Setting Medical training center (AdventHealth Nicholson Center, Orlando, FL). Interventions The dissection started with the mobilization of the iliac vessels from the pelvic sidewall to identify the obturator nerve. The peritoneum of the ovarian fossa was opened, and the ureter was dissected up to the level of the uterine artery. The hypogastric nerve was identified. The close relationship between the ovarian fossa and the obturator nerve could be demonstrated. The deep dissection of the obturator fossa allowed for the identification of the lumbosacral trunk, S1, the sciatic nerve, S2, S3, S4, and the splanchnic nerves. Then, the ischial spine and the sacrospinous ligament were identified. The pudendal nerve and vessels could be observed passing below the sacrospinous ligament, entering the pudendal canal (Alcock's canal). The presacral space was dissected, and the hypogastric fascia was opened. S1 to S4 were identified coming from the sacral foramens. The laparoscopic dissection, using the cadaveric model, allowed for the development of the entire retroperitoneal anatomy, focusing on the dissection of the pelvic innervation. Anatomic relationships among the ureter, the hypogastric nerve, the uterosacral ligament, the splanchnic nerves, the inferior hypogastric plexus, and the organs (bowel, vagina, uterus, and bladder) could be demonstrated. Emulgel showed pseudoplastic behavior and a gelation temperature of 33 °C, which ensure their higher consistency. In addition, 70% of the incorporated curcumin was released within 24 h in an in vitro drug release study and could permeate porcine oral mucosa. Monolayers cultures and tissue-engineered models showed the selectivity of the drug and systems for tumor cells. Patients We included all patients who had undergone uterosacral ligament suspension and concurrent total vaginal hysterectomy (TVH-USLS) or total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH-USLS) from 2010 to 2015. We excluded those who underwent laparoscopic-assisted vaginal hysterectomy, abdominal hysterectomy, other surgical procedures for apical pelvic organ prolapse, or had gynecologic malignancy. Interventions We compared 30-day complication rates in patients who underwent TVH-USLS versus TLH-USLS in both the total study population and a propensity score matched cohort. Measurements and main results The study population consisted of 3,349 patients who underwent TVH-USLS and 484 who underwent TLH-USLarge national cohort, TVH-USLS was associated with a higher composite complication rate than TLH-USLS, largely secondary to an increased rate of urinary tract infection. After matching, the groups had similar rates of serious complications. Interventions The dissection started with the mobilization of the iliac vessels from the pelvic sidewall to identify the obturator nerve. The peritoneum of the ovarian fossa was opened, and the ureter was dissected up to the level of the uterine artery. The hypogastric nerve was identified. The close relationship between the ovarian fossa and the obturator nerve could be demonstrated. The deep dissection of the obturator fossa allowed for the identification of the lumbosacral trunk, S1, the sciatic nerve, S2, S3, S4, and the splanchnic nerves. Then, the ischial spine and the sacrospinous ligament were identified. The pudendal nerve and vessels could be observed passing below the sacrospinous ligament, entering the pudendal canal (Alcock's canal). The presacral space was dissected, and the hypogastric fascia was opened. S1 to S4 were identified coming from the sacral foramens. The laparoscopic dissection, using the cadaveric model, allowed for the development of the entire retroperitoneal anatomy, focusing on the dissection of the pelvic innervation. This study's purpose was to determine the efficacy of online-only or online + hands-on training programs on key outcomes for rat tickling in comparison to a waitlist control condition. After completing a baseline survey, laboratory animal personnel currently working with rats in the United States were semi-randomized to receive online-only training (n = 30), online + hands-on training (n = 34), or waitlist control (n = 32). Participants received further surveys directly after training and 2 months later. Data were analyzed using general linear mixed models. At the 2-month follow-up compared to baseline, both training groups reported increased implementation, self-efficacy, knowledge, and familiarity of rat tickling while only the online + hands-on training participants reported increased control beliefs (while the waitlist group stayed the same). At the 2-month follow-up compared to the waitlist, hands-on training participants reported increased self-efficacy and familiarity with rat tickling. Overall, findings show that both online-only and online + hands-on training can improve key outcomes for rat tickling. Thirty-two eyes of 24 patients with Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) and drusen maculopathy were included. In the central 1 and 3 mm ETDRS circle drusen volumes were calculated and compared. Drusen segmentation was performed using automated manufacturer algorithms of the two OCT devices. Then, the automated segmentation was manually corrected and compared and finally analyzed using customized software. Though on SD-OCT, there was a significant difference of mean drusen volume prior to and after manual correction (mean difference 0.0188 ± 0.0269 mm3, p less then 0.001, corr. p less then 0.001, correlation of r = 0.90), there was no difference found on SS-OCT (mean difference 0.0001 ± 0.0003 mm3, p = 0.262, corr. p = 0.524, r = 1.0). Heidelberg-acquired mean drusen volume after manual correction was significantly different from Zeiss-acquired drusen volume after manual correction (mean difference 0.1231 ± 0.0371 mm3, p less then 0.001, corr. p less then 0.001, r = 0.68). Using a combined two-steps approach of virtual screening and molecular docking techniques, we have screened an in-house collection of small molecules, mainly composed of natural and nature-inspired compounds. The molecules were selected with high structural diversity to cover a wide range of chemical space into the enzyme pockets. Virtual screening experiments were performed using the blind docking mode of the AutoDock Vina software. Virtual screening allowed the selection of structurally heterogeneous compounds capable of interacting effectively with the enzymatic site of SARS-CoV-2 Mpro. The compounds showing the best interaction with the protein were re-scored by molecular docking as implemented in AutoDock, while the stability of the complexes was tested by molecular dynamics.

Thirty-two eyes of 24 patients with Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) and drusen maculopathy were included. In the central 1 and 3 mm ETDRS circle drusen volumes were calculated and compared. Drusen segmentation was performed using automated manufacturer algorithms of the two OCT devices. Then, the automated segmentation was manually corrected and compared and finally analyzed using customized software. Though on SD-OCT, there was a significant difference of mean drusen volume prior to and after manual correction (mean difference 0.0188 ± 0.0269 mm3, p less then 0.001, corr. p less then 0.001, correlation of r = 0.90), there was no difference found on SS-OCT (mean difference 0.0001 ± 0.0003 mm3, p = 0.262, corr. p = 0.524, r = 1.0). Heidelberg-acquired mean drusen volume after manual correction was significantly different from Zeiss-acquired drusen volume after manual correction (mean difference 0.1231 ± 0.0371 mm3, p less then 0.001, corr. p less then 0.001, r = 0.68). Using customized software, the difference of measurements between both devices decreased and correlation among the measurements improved (mean difference 0.0547 ± 0.0744 mm3, p = 0.02, corr. p = 0.08, r = 0.937). Heidelberg SD-OCT, the Zeiss PlexElite SS-OCT, and customized software all measured significantly different drusen volumes. Therefore, devices/algorithms may not be interchangeable. Third-party customized software helps to minimize differences, which may allow a pooling of data of different devices, e.g., in multicenter trials.A novel coronavirus (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, SARS-CoV-2) has been the cause of a recent global pandemic. The highly contagious nature of this life-threatening virus makes it imperative to find therapies to counteract its diffusion. The main protease (Mpro) of SARS-CoV-2 is a promising drug target due to its indispensable role in viral replication inside the host. Using a combined two-steps approach of virtual screening and molecular docking techniques, we have screened an in-house collection of small molecules, mainly composed of natural and nature-inspired compounds. The molecules were selected with high structural diversity to cover a wide range of chemical space into the enzyme pockets. Virtual screening experiments were performed using the blind docking mode of the AutoDock Vina software. Virtual screening allowed the selection of structurally heterogeneous compounds capable of interacting effectively with the enzymatic site of SARS-CoV-2 Mpro.
