A distinct dumbbell shape is observed as the dominant contrast feature in the experimental data when imaging 1,1'-ferrocene dicarboxylic acid (FDCA) molecules on bulk and thin film CaF2(111) surfaces with non-contact atomic force microscopy (NC-AFM). We use NC-AFM image calculations with the probe particle model to interpret this distinct shape by repulsive interactions between the NC-AFM tip and the top hydrogen atoms of the cyclopentadienyl (Cp) rings. Simulated NC-AFM images show an excellent agreement with experimental constant-height NC-AFM data of FDCA molecules at several tip-sample distances. By measuring this distinct dumbbell shape together with the molecular orientation, a strategy is proposed to determine the conformation of the ferrocene moiety, herein on CaF2(111) surfaces, by using the protruding hydrogen atoms as markers.Metastasis of extra-intestinal carcinoma to the gastrointestinal tract (***) is a rare event, most commonly occurring with malignant melanoma. Blood serology showed the presence of anti-amphiphysin and anti-Ri (ANNA-2, antineuronal nuclear autoantibody type 2) antibodies, which have a known association with cerebellar syndrome. The patient subsequently improved with the steroids. Although no evidence of an underlying tumor was found in the patient, the presence of the paraneoplastic antibodies remains a mystery. We suggest a probable association of these antibodies with the postinfectious cerebellar syndrome.Suprapubic catheterization (SPC) is one of the standard procedures in urological emergencies. The common complications of SPC include loss of track, hematuria, catheter blockage, and catheter-related infections. However, severe complications like bowel injuries, including intestinal obstructionand perforation, can also occur. We present the case of a 54-year-old lady who had received pelvic radiation 30 years ago for carcinoma cervix. She presented to a secondary-level care center with anuria. On failure of per urethral catheterization, she repeatedly underwent unguided SPC. However, unsatisfied with her recovery, she was brought to our tertiary care center by her relatives. She was found to have inadvertent placement of SPC in the small bowel, which was confirmed preoperatively by ultrasound and CT. Intraoperatively, the SPC catheter was seen inside the terminal ileum causing ileal wall necrosis and a localized feco-purulent collection. Urinary bladder rent was also noted at the site of the earlier SPC. Resection of distal ileum with double barrel ileostomy, followed by primary repair of the bladder wall, was done. Unfortunately, she succumbed to overwhelming sepsis and expired in the postoperative period. This case emphasizes a potential higher risk of life-threatening bowel injury due to SPC insertion in patients with previous pelvic irradiation. Such high-risk cases should be approached with the utmost care, preferably under ultrasound guidance. For safe practice, the British Association of Urological Surgeons' guidelines for SPC insertion should be followed.Acute gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB) is a frequently encountered medical emergency and it can be life-threatening depending on the etiology and the clinical condition of the patient. Acquired hemophilia causing acute gastrointestinal bleed is extremely rare and only a few cases are reported worldwide. Acquired hemophilia A (AHA) is a rare disorder caused by the production of autoantibodies that inactivates clotting factor VIII. We present a case of upper gastrointestinal bleed due to AHA which was undiagnosed for two years. A 74-year-old patient with a history of myasthenia gravis, presented with anemia, and GIB. She underwent multiple endoscopies without a clear bleeding source. Coagulation studies showed isolated activated partial thromboplastin time prolongation which was not corrected by mixing study. Factor VIII activity was low and Bethesda titer showed elevated inhibitor levels. Factor Eight Bypassing Agent, recombinant factor VIIa, and steroids were given to control bleeding. Her clinical condition worsened, and she passed away. Elderly patients presenting with an undiagnosed source of GIBs, inconclusive endoscopic studies should be evaluated for acquired coagulopathies, especially in those with a history of autoimmune diseases and malignancies. Prompt diagnosis and treatment are warranted as it carries a high mortality. Part of the case presentation was presented as an abstract at a regional conference.

GegenQinlian Decoction (GQD), a classical formula in traditional Chinese medicine, is widely used in the treatment of diabetes. While studies have demonstrated that GQD is an efficacious treatment for insulin resistance (IR) in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), the potential bioactive compounds and mechanisms remain unclear.
To further investigate the potential bioactive compounds, targets, and pathways of GQD on improving IR in T2DM for adipose, liver, and muscle tissue using an integrated strategy of system pharmacology and bioinformatics analysis.
We screened the candidate compounds and targets of GQD and identified IR-associated differentially expressed genes (DEGs) of adipose, liver, and muscle tissue, respectively. Then the intersecting target genes between candidate targets and DEGs were used for "GQD-compounds-targets-tissue" network construction in each type of tissue. The top 10 bioactive compounds acting on each type of tissue were intersected and consequently identified as potential bioactivetion.

In this review, the roles and regulatory mechanisms of miR-424, miR-503, and miR-424/503 cluster are summarized in different types of cancers.The DNA N6-methyladenine (6mA) modification is a prevalent epigenetic mark in prokaryotes, but the low abundance of 6mA in eukaryotes has recently received attention. The possible role of 6mA as an epigenetic mark in eukaryotes is starting to be recognized. This review article addresses the epigenetic roles of 6mA in eukaryotes. The existence of 6mA in metazoans and plants, the correlation of 6mA with gene expression, the enzymes catalyzing the deposition and removal of the 6mA modification, the relationship of 6mA to nucleosome positioning, the 6mA interaction with chromatin, its role in tumorigenesis and other physiological conditions/diseases and technical issues in 6mA detection/profiling and bioinformatics analysis are described. New directions and unresolved issues (e.g., the base-pair-resolution 6mA-sequencing method and gene activation vs. repression) in 6mA research are discussed.Social instability stress (SS; daily 1 h isolation and change of cage partner from postnatal day (P) 30-45) in adolescence produces elevations in corticosterone during the procedure in male and female rats, but no lasting changes in hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) responses to psychological stressors, although deficits in social and cognitive function are evident in adulthood. To examine the relationship between changes in levels of depression and anxiety and changes in subjective cognitive functioning over 3 months in help-seeking youth.
This was a cohort study of 656 youth aged 12-25 years attending Australian headspace primary mental health services. Subjective changes in cognitive functioning (rated as better, same, worse) reported after 3 months of treatment was assessed using the Neuropsychological Symptom Self-Report. Multivariate multinomial logistic regression analysis was conducted to evaluate the impact of baseline levels of and changes in depression (nine-item Patient Health Questionnaire; PHQ9) and anxiety symptoms (seven-item Generalised Anxiety Disorder scale; GAD7) on changes in subjective cognitive function at followof these associations is needed to tailor treatment.Following the importation of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) into Nigeria on 27 February 2020 and then the outbreak, the question is How do we anticipate the progression of the ongoing epidemic following all the intervention measures put in place? This kind of question is appropriate for public health responses and it will depend on the early estimates of the key epidemiological parameters of the virus in a defined population.In this study, we combined a likelihood-based method using a Bayesian framework and compartmental model of the epidemic of COVID-19 in Nigeria to estimate the effective reproduction number (R(t)) and basic reproduction number (R0) - this also enables us to estimate the initial daily transmission rate (β0). We further estimate the reported fraction of symptomatic cases. The models are applied to the NCDC data on COVID-19 symptomatic and death cases from 27 February 2020 and 7 May 2020.In this period, the effective reproduction number is estimated with a minimum value of 0.18 and a maximum value of 2.29. Most importantly, the R(t) is strictly greater than one from 13 April till 7 May 2020. The R0 is estimated to be 2.42 with credible interval (2.37-2.47). Comparing this with the R(t) shows that control measures are working but not effective enough to keep R(t) below 1. Also, the estimated fraction of reported symptomatic cases is between 10 and 50%.Our analysis has shown evidence that the existing control measures are not enough to end the epidemic and more stringent measures are needed.
Patent ductus arteriosus closure is traditionally performed by thoracotomy approach. Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery is a less frequently utilised alternative. We sought to compare elective surgical outcomes between the two methods via a single-centre retrospective cohort analysis.
All patients >3.2 kg undergoing surgical patent ductus arteriosus ligation at a single institution from 2000 to 2018 were retrospectively reviewed. Propensity matching for age, weight, diuretic usage, and preterm status was conducted to adjust for differences in baseline patient characteristics. Outcome measures included operative time, hospitalisation duration, post-operative complications, and re-operation.
A total of 173 patients were included, 127 thoracoscopy and 46 thoracotomy. In the unmatched cohorts, no significant difference in closure success was found (94% thoracoscopy versus 100% thoracotomy, p = 0.192). Although median operative time was longer for thoracoscopy (87 versus 56 minutes, p < 0.001), hospi, but longer operative times. Other risks, including bleeding, chylothorax, and recurrent laryngeal nerve injury, were similar.

We further estimate the reported fraction of symptomatic cases. The models are applied to the NCDC data on COVID-19 symptomatic and death cases from 27 February 2020 and 7 May 2020.In this period, the effective reproduction number is estimated with a minimum value of 0.18 and a maximum value of 2.29. Most importantly, the R(t) is strictly greater than one from 13 April till 7 May 2020. The R0 is estimated to be 2.42 with credible interval (2.37-2.47). Comparing this with the R(t) shows that control measures are working but not effective enough to keep R(t) below 1. Also, the estimated fraction of reported symptomatic cases is between 10 and 50%.Our analysis has shown evidence that the existing control measures are not enough to end the epidemic and more stringent measures are needed. Wide fluctuations in placebo responses have been reported in phase 3 trials of systemic therapies for moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis.

Neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction (NLUTD) represents a severe burden for patients with open spina bifida (OSB). The effect of fetal OSB repair on the urological outcome remains unclear, as controversial data exist. The aim of this study was to further increment existing outcome data and to demonstrate that our earlier published positive preliminary results are not erratic.
Data from standardized urological follow-up appointments of patients with fetal OSB repair operated at our center were analyzed. Data were obtained from urodynamic studies (UDSs) and radiologic exams performed in the newborn (gestational age 37-39 weeks), at ages of 6, 12, 18, and 24 months, and then at yearly intervals.
Of 82 patients (mean age 2.6 years, range 6 months to 7 years), 26 (32%) had a normal bladder function as demonstrated by UDSs. Of the 56 (68%) patients with NLUTD, 29 (51%) patients showed initially a normal UDS, but developed NLUTD in the follow-up, 19 (66%) of them spontaneously and another 10 (34%) in association with growth and development, or surgery of inclusion cysts. Radiologic abnormalities (upper tract dilatation and vesico-uretero-renal reflux) were seen in 15%, mainly patients with NLUTD.
Our results add an important set of information to the existing body of evidence. The data reconfirm our earlier published favorable preliminary results and support other studies that show a possible benefit of prenatal OSB repair on the urological outcome, but they also demonstrate that the positive effect remains limited.

In triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) patients receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT), pre-treatment predictors for pathological complete response (pCR) have been reported; however, those for progressive disease (PD) remain unidentified.
We investigated pre-treatment clinicopathological predictors associated with pCR and PD by retrospectively reviewing data for 165 patients treated between 2015 and 2018. Patients with pCR and PD were compared to those without pCR and PD, respectively, using logistic regression and Kaplan-Meier methods.
Lack of androgen receptor (AR) was an independent predictor of pCR, while high histological grade, low Ki-67 index, and incomplete NACT courses were independent predictors of PD. Mean disease-free survival and overall survival were significantly poorer in PD patients than in pCR patients (15.7, 21.3 vs. 52.4, 56.3 months).

Acute exacerbations of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (AE-IPF) are episodes of acute respiratory worsening characterized by diffuse alveolar damage superimposed on usual interstitial pneumonia. Direct hemoperfusion with a polymyxin B-immobilized fiber column (PMX-DHP) is reported to have beneficial effects on the respiratory status and outcome in patients with AE-IPF although its mechanism of action is not fully elucidated.

We performed a listening experiment in 19 adult participants, who had received a unilateral cochlear implant (CI) because of severe bilateral hearing loss. All of these patients had indicated that they suffered from tinnitus. During a 300-s interval, patients listened to blocks of single-electrode stimulation and rated the loudness of the stimulus and any effects on their tinnitus. The 300-s interval included a block of single-electrode stimulation (duration 120 s).

Efficacy study.
To elucidate the limitations of radiography in patients with spinal ankylosing disorders (SAD) with an emphasis on thoracolumbar injuries, which have been less focused upon.
We searched our hospital's emergency room database for patients who underwent a total spine computed tomography (CT) following a diagnosis of SAD on radiographs following a minor fall. A high-quality presentation containing 50 randomly situated anteroposterior + lateral radiographs was created. https://www.selleckchem.com/ Of these, 24 contained a hyperextension type fracture diagnosed by CT. Twelve physicians-4 spine surgeons, 4 senior orthopedic residents and 4 junior orthopedic residents were requested to identify the pathologic radiographs and note the fracture level.
Fracture diagnosis stood at 65% for the best reader. When examining the different subgroups, the mean rate of diagnosis for spine surgeons was 55% and for orthopedic residents 32%. Mean diagnosis of thoracic fractures was 26%, of lumbar fractures was 55%, and for the entire thoracolumbar spine was 40%. The interobserver agreement (kappa coefficient) was found to be 0.37 for the entire group and 0.39 for spine surgeons. This finding was statistically significant.
The simple radiograph is an inefficient modality for diagnosis of hyperextension type thoracolumbar fractures in patients with SAD. The poor interobserver agreement rate further amplifies this finding. Advanced imaging is recommended in these patients.

We conducted a review analysis of the literature published on acute respiratory failure from vaping cannabis oil. We have also summarized the clinical details (age, length of stay, mode of ventilation, common clinical findings, and steroid use) along with common laboratory abnormalities. This article aims to educate health care providers on the clinical manifestations and management strategies for vaping-induced acute respiratory failure. We also discussed the different available formulations of cannabis oil and key ingredients responsible for the vaping-associated lung injury.Transbronchial biopsy (TBB) is one of the commonly performed procedures by pulmonologists in everyday practice. Although the procedure has a very low-risk profile, complications often develop in certain patients. Pneumothorax is one such complication pertaining to TBB. As only a small percent of procedures get complicated by pneumothorax, handful of cases have been reported with its delayed occurrence in the past 5 decades. The purpose of our report is to highlight another uncommon yet interesting case of delayed iatrogenic pneumothorax in an immunocompromised patient after TBB. Although the chain of events behind the pathophysiology of delayed pneumothorax largely remain a mystery, its development has been linked to altered immune mechanics as they are frequently recognized in immunocompromised patients.We examined the extent to which the perceived behavioral control factors of pro-social, emotional, or verbal-social self-efficacy (SE) as well as external locus of control (LOC) explain the variance between different participant roles relational aggressors, relational victims, relational aggressive-victims, and bystanders. Participants included 1,518 adolescents (61.6% boys and 38.4% girls) from 15 Israeli middle and high schools. Multinomial logistic regression models indicated relational aggressors, and aggressive-victims had lower pro-social SE and higher verbal-social SE than relational victims and bystanders. Relational aggressors, aggressive-victims, and victims had more extensive external LOC than bystanders. The theoretical contribution of verbal-social SE is discussed, and practical implications are highlighted, in particular, regarding the relational aggressive-victim, who exhibits high-risk behaviors.Atrial fibrillation is the leading cause of cardioembolic stroke, with emboli most commonly originating from the left atrial appendage. We report the case of a 71-year-old male with left atrial appendage closure via implantation of the WATCHMAN device, due to possible anticoagulation therapy failure and increased bleeding risk, following a stroke. Following a new stroke over a year later, a 1.8-mm peri-device leak was observed. Surgical records noted a minimal ( less then 5 mm jet flow) peri-device leak after the installation, which was considered successful WATCHMAN implantation per protocol. This case highlights the persistent risk of cardioembolic stroke in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation despite device implantation and questions the significance of peri-device leak and further management with anticoagulation for recurrent stroke.

The addition of LVEF and LV-GLS to clinical markers (age, sex, cardiogenic shock at presentation, and peak troponin I) significantly increased log-likelihood ratios clinical (-521.48), clinical plus LVEF (-511.32, P less then 0.001), and clinical plus LVEF and LV-GLS (-500.68, P less then 0.001). We sought to determine if the links between and within the default mode network (DMN) and dorsal attention network (DAT) exhibited different conditions according to catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) gene polymorphism in relationship to attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms.
Fifty-seven children with ADHD and 48 healthy controls (HCs) were administered an intelligence test, the Children's Depression Inventory, the Korean ADHD rating scale, and continuous performance test. Resting-state brain functional MRI scans were obtained, and COMT genotyping was performed to distinguish valine carriers and methionine homozygotes.
Compared to controls, children with ADHD showed increased ADHD scale scores, increased visual commission errors, and increased functional connectivity (FC) within the DMN and DAT. Compared to all children with ADHD, children with the methionine homozygote and those who were valine carriers showed increased FC within the DMN and DAT and decreased FC between the DMN and DAT. FC within the DMN was also increased in HC valine carriers compared to HC children with the methionine homozygote, and in children with ADHD who were valine carriers compared to HC valine carriers.

Clinical rotations of medical students across the world have inevitably been affected due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. The aims of this study were to explore medical students' perception on the school's response and management of clinical rotation during the COVID-19 pandemic and on how it had affected the quality of their education.
An online questionnaire was distributed to third year medical students at one institution whose clinical rotations re-started during the pandemic. The questions asked about the students' satisfaction with the school's policy and feelings of safety, and the impact of COVID-19 on clinical learning.
The students' perception on the school's response to the pandemic was mixed. Re-commencement of the clinical rotations and procurement of personal protective equipment was positive but a third of students still felt unsafe. The decreased number of hospital patients did not seem to have impacted their overall clinical education with praise on the role of the supervising physicians. Seventy-six-point seven percent of students conferred the positive educational opportunities on medical professionalism presented to them only as the clinical rotation during the ongoing pandemic.
Our observations on the re-commencement of clerkship during this pandemic may help equip medical institutions on future public health crisis.

This study aims to understand the characteristics of smart device-based testing (SBT) by comparing the typical characteristics of students' satisfaction with SBT, its usefulness, advantages, and disadvantages when compared with existing testing methods.
A total of 250 students from the first to third year were selected as the final targets of the study and the questionnaire was developed by faculty members who participated in the survey from the start of the SBT. The total number of questions is 12, and the questionnaire used a 4-point scale. The data obtained were analyzed using the IBM SPSS ver. 23.0 (IBM Corp., Armonk, USA).
Answers to the "satisfaction with SBT" were generally negative, while answers to the "usefulness of SBT" were generally positive. There was no difference in satisfaction across gender and smart device ownership, whereas there were significant differences across years. With reference to the usefulness of SBT, students responded positively, while about the overall configuration andimpact in the accumulation of actual clinical knowledge and in the improvement of practical skills for medical students.Medical schools have been slowly adopting online learning into pedagogical methods for more than a decade. While some medical educators are reluctant to accept these changes, the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic poses a threat to the delivery of traditional medical education, which has accelerated the inevitable implementation of online learning. This sudden change may be a new challenge to medical educators who are new to this territory. Therefore, this review aims to provide foundational concepts of online learning and practical guidelines in the context of medical education. The authors first identify three foundational concepts, which are transactional distance, presence, and independent learners. In online learning, transactional distance, determined by dialogue and structure, becomes more important than physical distance. Furthermore, effective and successful online learning requires the achievement and accommodation of cognitive, social, and teaching presences. It is also crucial to recognize learners not as passive recipients of information predefined by a teacher, but as active, capable, and independent individuals. The authors, then, discuss the practical guidelines for designing an effective online curriculum. The aim of this registry study was to investigate the potential of a new food-grade formulation of the association of Boswellia serrata and Centella asiatica extracts (Boswellia/Centella Phytosome, [BCP]) in combination with standard management (SM) to produce a faster re-expansion of the intervertebral disks in symptomatic subjects with "flattened" disks in the lower spine, due to wrong posture and compression after repeated trauma.
The study was designed as a 3-6 months pilot registry. Three groups of subjects were comparable for characteristics and symptoms at baseline SM+BCP; SM; SM+glucosamine.
No side effects were observed. Regarding target measurements at 3 and 6 months, height increased in the BCP group vs. the other two groups. The total spine length improved in the BCP group (P<0.05); in particular at 6 months the increase was doubled with BCP. SM was effective in producing elongation but the association with BCP made spinal elongation faster, more effective, with a better expansion of the intervertebral disks.

To compare Mean Glandular Dose (MGD) and effective dose from digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) screening with that from full field digital mammography (FFDM) screening.
To simulate compressed breasts, two Perspex-polyethylene breast phantoms were used, one phantom for compressed breast in craniocaudal and the other for compressed breast in mediolateral oblique. An adult ATOM dosimetry phantom was loaded with high sensitivity thermoluminescence dosimeters; the phantom was then positioned on Hologic Selenia Dimensions mammographic machine to imitate DBT and 4-view FFDM screening. Organ radiation doses were measured from 4-view DBT and 4-view FFDM (craniocaudal and mediolateral oblique views for each breast). Organ radiation doses were used to calculate effective dose from one screening session.
MGD for DBT was 3.6mGy; MGD for FFDM was 2.8mGy. For DBT, other organs (e.g. thymus, lungs, salivary glands, thyroid, contralateral breast and bone marrow) radiation dose was also higher than for FFDM. The use of DBT for breast cancer screening increases the effective dose (E) of one screening session by 22%. E for DBT was 0.44mSv; E for FFDM was 0.34mSv.

In 2017, as part of a readiness plan for the launch of a novel symptom screening tool for prostate cancer patients, an interprofessional working group was assembled at Odette Cancer Centre (OCC). A provincial Phase II pilot for the tool had stated (based on stakeholder feedback) that there was a need to "Develop training and resources for patients and clinicians that facilitate the interpretation of patient reported outcomes measures (PROMs) …." With this recommendation in mind, the working group aimed to develop and implement a training and education plan. The plan would support healthcare professionals (HCPs) in their clinical response to the PROM tool symptom screening scores.The aim was to encourage evidence based symptom management and therefore improve care for patients.

However, there is scant information on the risks of delirium with chemotherapy and approaches to prevent or treat it. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to summarize available evidence.
We systematically searched peer-reviewed journal articles in English, French, German, and Dutch from five databases from 1990 to May 2019 to identify studies examining delirium in adult patients receiving chemotherapy. We also attempted to identify delirium risk prediction models and prevention or treatment trials. All reviews and data extraction were performed by two independent reviewers. Summary estimates were derived from random effects models.
A total of 23,389 titles and abstracts were screened, and 1272 full-text articles were reviewed. Nineteen articles reported on delirium using an acceptable diagnostic standard. Sample sizes varied from 7 to 324. The incidence of delirium ranged from 0 to 51% (weighted mean 9%, 95% confidence interval 5-16%). In a sensitivity analysis including 122 studies that used terminology suggestive of delirium but did not meet our inclusion criteria, the weighted incidence of delirium was 10% (95% confidence interval 8-12%). Age was not consistently associated with increased delirium risk. No intervention studies to prevent or treat delirium were identified.

This study determined the value of CGA and medical oncologist's clinical judgment in predicting unfavorable outcome and explored whether treatment decisions can be based on CGA.
In this prospective cohort study, a multidomain CGA was performed by a geriatric nurse and geriatrician in 110 consecutive patients aged ≥70years, newly referred to a multidisciplinary oncology clinic. CGA domains included comorbidity, polypharmacy, mood, cognition, nutrition, functionality and physical performance. Medical oncologist's clinical judgment on expected tolerance of standard treatment was noted (N=62). Deep convolutional neural networks (Resnet18 pre-trained on Imagenet) and auto-encoder-decoders (U-Net) were trained to predict nBAP1 expression of these patches. To evaluate different segmentation methods in analyzing Schlemm's canal (SC) and the trabecular meshwork (TM) in ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) images.
Twenty-six healthy volunteers were recruited. The intraocular pressure (IOP) was measured while study subjects blew a trumpet. Images were obtained at different IOPs by 50-MHz UBM. ImageJ software and three segmentation methods-
-means, fuzzy C-means, and level set-were applied to segment the UBM images. Thequantitativeanalysisofthe TM-SC region was based on the segmentation results. The relative error and the interclass correlation coefficient (ICC) were used to quantify the accuracy and the repeatability of measurements. Pearson correlation analysis was conducted to evaluate the associations between the IOP and the TM and SC geometric measurements.
A total of 104 UBM images were obtained. Among them, 84 were adequately clear to be segmented. The level-set method results had a higher similarity to ImageJ results than the other two methods. The ICC values of the level-set method were 0.97, 0.95, 0.9, and 0.57, respectively. The probes were modulated with sawtooth temporal waveforms at a temporal frequency of 3 or 2.73 Hz. SSVEP response waveforms and response spectra for incremental and decremental stimuli were analyzed as a function of stimulus size and visual field location in 67 healthy adult participants.
SSVEPs recorded at the scalp differ between contrast decrements and increments of equal Weber contrast SSVEP responses were larger in amplitude and shorter in latency for contrast decrements than for contrast increments. Both increment and decrement responses were larger for displays that were scaled for cortical magnification.

Subjects also undertook assessments of visual acuity, contrast sensitivity, full-field static perimetry, and age-appropriate quality of life questionnaires. To identify the most relevant metric to quantify vision-guided mobility, we investigated repeatability, as well as convergent, discriminant, and criterion validity. We also measured the effect of illumination on mobility.

Although vascular alterations in solid tumor malignancies are known to decrease therapeutic delivery, the effects of leukemia-induced bone marrow vasculature (BMV) alterations on therapeutic delivery are not well known. Additionally, functional quantitative measurements of the leukemic BMV during chemotherapy and radiation therapy are limited, largely due to a lack of high-resolution imaging techniques available preclinically. This study develops a murine model using compartmental modeling for quantitative multiphoton microscopy (QMPM) to characterize the malignant BMV before and during treatment.

In this study, the cDNAs encoding a pomegranate fatty acid conjugase and a pomegranate oleate desaturase were co-expressed in canola-type Brassica napus. Transgenic B. napus lines accumulated up to 11% (w/w) of the total fatty acids as PuA in the seed oil, which is the highest level of PuA reported in metabolically engineered oilseed crops so far. Levels of seed oil PuA were stable over two generations and had no negative effects on seed germination. The transgenic B. napus lines with the highest PuA levels contained multiple transgene insertions and the PuA content of B. napus seed oil was correlated with efficiency of oleic acid desaturation and linoleic acid conjugation. In addition, PuA accumulated at lower levels in polar lipids (5.0-6.9%) than triacylglycerol (7.5-10.6%), and more than 60% of triacylglycerol-associated PuA was present at the sn-2 position. The yield of α-amyrin was increased to 11-fold higher than that of the control by the triple mutant MdOSC1N11T/P250H/P373A obtained based on the modeling analysis. Furthermore, key genes of MVA pathway were overexpressed to provide sufficient precursors, and DGA1 (Diacylglycerol acyltransferase) was overexpressed to expand the intracellular storage capacity. Finally, the as-constructed aAM12 strain produced 213.7 ± 12.4 mg/L α-amyrin in the shake flask and 1107.9 ± 76.8 mg/L in fed-batch fermentation; the fermentation yield was 106-fold higher than that of the original aAM1 strain under the same conditions, representing the highest α-amyrin yield in yeast reported to date. Worldwide, call-taker recognition of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests (CA) suffers from poor accuracy, leading to missed opportunities for dispatcher-assisted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (DACPR) in CA patients and inappropriate DACPR in non-CA patients. Diagnostic protocols typically ask 2 questions in sequence 'Is the patient conscious?' and 'Is the patient breathing normally?' As part of quality improvement efforts, our national emergency medical call centre changed the breathing question to an instruction for callers to place their hand onto the patient's abdomen to evaluate for the presence of breathing.
We performed a prospective before-and-after study of all unconscious cases from the national call centre database over a 31-day period in 2018. Cases were placed in 2 groups 1) 'Before' group (standard protocol) where call-takers asked 'Is the patient breathing normally?' and 2) 'After' group (modified protocol) where callers were instructed to place their hand on the patient's abdomen.
