RESULTS In the phantom validation, the estimation error on the EUD was limited with respect to the motion effect and the median estimation error on relevant RBE-weighted DVH metrics remained within 5%. In the patient study, the estimation error as computed on the EUD was smaller than the corresponding motion effect, exhibiting the largest values in the baseline irregularity simulation. However, the median estimation error over all simulations was below 3.2% considering relevant DVH metrics. CONCLUSIONS In the evaluated cases, the bioWED method showed proper accuracy when compared to deformable image registration-based 4D dose calculation. Therefore, it can be seen as a tool to test treatment plan robustness against irregular breathing motion, although its accuracy decreases as a function of increasing soft tissue deformation and should be evaluated on a larger patient dataset. It is often of dental origin and tends to mimic other dental infections, granulomatous disorders, and cancers. The initial diagnostic workup, predicated upon imaging and tissue biopsies, is frequently nonspecific. A definitive diagnosis is usually rendered only after surgical excision and histologic examination of the cervicofacial mass. We propose a classification of three stages localized infection without sinus involvement, localized infection with sinus involvement, and disseminated infection, to facilitate recognition, diagnosis, and early aggressive treatment. Untreated infection may be life-threatening. Implementing cancer prevention and control interventions that are sustainable, focused, and culturally appropriate may boost success in communities with the greatest need, ensuring that all Americans can access a path to long, healthy, cancer-free lives. © 2020 American Cancer Society.A deep elucidation of the mechanisms of action of anti-CD38 monoclonal antibodies (mAbs), such as daratumumab (DARA), is required to identify patients with multiple myeloma (MM) who are more responsive to this treatment. In the present study, an autologous ex vivo approach was established, focussing on the role of the monocytes in the anti CD38-mediated killing of MM cells. In bone marrow (BM) samples from 29 patients with MM, we found that the ratio between monocytes (CD14+ ) and MM cells (CD138+ ) influences the response to DARA. Further, the exposure of the BM samples to DARA is followed by the formation of a CD138+ CD14+ double-positive (DP) population, that quantitatively correlates with the anti-MM cells killing. These effects were dependent on the presence of a CD14+ CD16+ monocyte subset and on high CD16 expression levels. Lastly, the addition of a mAb neutralising the CD47/signal-regulatory protein α (SIRPα) axis was able to increase the killing mediated by DARA. The effects were observed only in coincidence with high CD14+ CD138+ ratio, with a significant presence of the DP population and were correlated with CD16 expression. Treatment of plants of monocot rice and dicot tomato with nematode-associated molecular patterns (NAMPs) from different nematode species or bacterial PAMP flg22 revealed global DNA hypomethylation. A similar hypomethylation response was observed during early gall induction by Meloidogyne graminicola (Mg) in rice. Evidence for the causal impact of hypomethylation on immunity was revealed by a significantly reduced plant susceptibility upon treatment with DNA methylation inhibitor 5-Azacytidine. However, the relative yield residuals exhibited a clear trend towards increased yield stability for all 16 provinces. The rice yields of newer cultivars planted with improved crop management practices were consistently higher and more stable in comparison with cultivars from the beginning of the study period. CONCLUSION This study revealed that rice yield in China has increased substantially, accompanied by improved stability over the last six decades. All rights reserved.BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES The aim was to evaluate long-term prognostic factors in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients who survived over 10 years after hepatectomy and compare prognostic factors between patients with recurrence who died and survived 10 years after initial hepatectomy. METHODS We analyzed the HCC patients without recurrence over 10 years after hepatectomy (n = 35), those with recurrence who survived over 10 years (n = 48), and those who died within 10 years (n = 132). RESULTS The rate of recurrence was 16.3%, 10-year overall survival rate was 38.6%, and the 10-year recurrence-free survival (RFS) rate was 16.7%. Nonviral, solitary tumor, well differentiation, and without severe fibrosis were independent favorable factors for long-term RFS. High cholinesterase levels, small tumors and without portal vein invasion were independent favorable factors for long-term survival among patients with recurrence. Long-term survivors with recurrence showed significantly low early recurrence, extrahepatic recurrence, multiple intrahepatic recurrences. CONCLUSION Important factors for long-term prognoses in HCC patients were a solitary tumor, small tumors, and no advanced fibrosis. A treatment for nonviral hepatitis is needed to achieve long-term RFS. Even patients who relapse might survive long term if they have a late or solitary intrahepatic recurrence, nonsevere cirrhosis, and curative treatment at recurrence. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.INTRODUCTION The effects of levator ani muscle (LAM) avulsion after instrumental delivery on the sexual function of patients are currently unknown. Therefore, the objective of our study was to use a validated questionnaire, namely, the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI), to compare the sexual function in patients with and without LAM avulsion after instrumental vaginal delivery. MATERIAL AND METHODS This was a prospective observational study of 112 primiparous women after instrumental (vacuum or forceps) vaginal delivery. The obstetric and general characteristics of the population were studied. At 6 months postpartum, the contraceptive method used and the occurrence of LAM avulsion (using 4D transperineal ultrasound) were determined, and the FSFI was administered. RESULTS A total of 100 patients (62 without avulsion and 38 with avulsion) completed the study. Thirty-eight (38%) were diagnosed with avulsion (42.1% after Kielland forceps delivery, 57.9% after Malmström vacuum delivery; p=0.837). Women with LAM avulsion had significantly lower scores for desire (2.9±1.2 vs 3.4±1.1; p=0.049), arousal (2.8±1.7 vs 3.6±1.4; p=0.014), lubrication (2.3±1.4 vs 3.0±1.2; p=0.011), orgasm (2.6±1.6 vs 3.3±1.2; p=0.006) and satisfaction (3.1±1.8 vs 3.9±1.5; p=0.051) than did women without LAM avulsion. The overall FSFI score was lower in patients with avulsion (16.7±8.9 vs 20.7±6.9, p=0.033). These results were obtained after controlling for confounders (delivery mode, induced labor, birth weight, perineal tears, avulsion degree, contraceptive method and group assignment for the parent study) in the multivariate analysis (F=4.974, p=0.001). CONCLUSIONS Patients with LAM avulsion present a higher degree of sexual dysfunction than patients without avulsion at 6 months after instrumental vaginal delivery. Using casein as a dietary protein control, we investigated the effects of diets composed of hen egg white, duck egg white, and preserved egg white on gut microbiota in the rat caecum. RESULTS The gut microbiota in rats was alterd post egg white consumption. The results showed that rats fed with egg white had a similar overall structure of caecal bacterial communities separated from those fed with casein. It is a challenge to produce whey protein beverages with high stability, good transparency, and a smooth mouthfeel. The polysaccharide (PS)-protein complex might help the food industry overcome these obstacles. In this study, soybean soluble polysaccharide (SSPS) and high methoxylated pectin (HMP, a traditional PS) are used, at different ratios to the protein, to improve the colloidal stability of the acidified whey protein solution. Both heated and unheated complexes were studied. SSPS-whey protein complexes have shown exceptional stabilities in all ratios while HMP-whey protein complexes revealed coacervation after 72 hr of storage. The prepared complexes exhibited comparable sizes and ζ-potentials. The SSPS-whey protein complexes were less turbid than HMP-whey protein complexes at similar PS to protein ratios. Results also show that greater repulsive interactions occurred in SSPS-whey protein complexes when compared to HMP-whey protein complexes, as examined by free thiol content and intrinsic fluorescence intensity measurements.

Considering the high frequency of constipation in dialysis patients with hyperkalemia, preferentially administering SPS over CPS may prevent constipation exacerbation.BACKGROUND Human reproduction is regulated by the combined action of the follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and the luteinizing hormone (LH) on the gonads. Although FSH is largely used in female reproduction, in particular in women attending assisted reproductive techniques to stimulate multi-follicular growth, its efficacy in men with idiopathic infertility is not clearly demonstrated. Indeed, whether FSH administration improves fertility in patients with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, the therapeutic benefit in men presenting alterations in sperm production despite normal FSH serum levels is still unclear. In the present review, we evaluate the potential pharmacological benefits of FSH administration in clinical practice. METHODS This is a narrative review, describing the FSH physiological role in spermatogenesis and its potential therapeutic action in men. RESULTS The FSH role on male fertility is reviewed starting from the physiological control of spermatogenesis, throughout its mechanism of action in Sertoli cells, the genetic regulation of its action on spermatogenesis, until the therapeutic options available to improve sperm production. CONCLUSION FSH administration in infertile men has potential benefits, although its action should be considered by evaluating its synergic action with testosterone, and well-controlled, powerful trials are required. Prospective studies and new compounds could be developed in the near future.(1) Background Ranunculus bulumei is a flowering plant that belongs to the Ranunculus species. Several Ranunculus species, such as R. aquatilis and R. muricatus, have traditionally been used to treat fever and rheumatism throughout Asia, suggesting that plants belonging to the Ranunculus species may have anti-inflammatory effects. To our knowledge, the pharmacological activity of R. bulumei has not been reported. Therefore, in this study, we aim to assess the anti-inflammatory activity of a methanol extract that was derived from R. bulumei (Rb-ME) in macrophage-mediated inflammatory responses and to identify the molecular mechanism that underlies any anti-inflammatory action. (2) Methods The anti-inflammatory efficacy of Rb-ME was evaluated while using in vitro and in vivo experiments. The RAW264.7 cells and peritoneal macrophages were stimulated by lipopolysaccharide (LPS). In addition, LPS-induced peritonitis and HCl/EtOH-triggered gastritis models were produced. A nitric oxide (NO) assay, real-time PCR, luME alleviated inflammatory responses and the levels of p-IκBα in **** with LPS-induced peritonitis and HCl/EtOH-induced gastritis. Considering the high frequency of constipation in dialysis patients with hyperkalemia, preferentially administering SPS over CPS may prevent constipation exacerbation.BACKGROUND Human reproduction is regulated by the combined action of the follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and the luteinizing hormone (LH) on the gonads. Although FSH is largely used in female reproduction, in particular in women attending assisted reproductive techniques to stimulate multi-follicular growth, its efficacy in men with idiopathic infertility is not clearly demonstrated. Indeed, whether FSH administration improves fertility in patients with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, the therapeutic benefit in men presenting alterations in sperm production despite normal FSH serum levels is still unclear. In the present review, we evaluate the potential pharmacological benefits of FSH administration in clinical practice. METHODS This is a narrative review, describing the FSH physiological role in spermatogenesis and its potential therapeutic action in men. RESULTS The FSH role on male fertility is reviewed starting from the physiological control of spermatogenesis, throughout its mechanism of action in Sertoli cells, the genetic regulation of its action on spermatogenesis, until the therapeutic options available to improve sperm production. CONCLUSION FSH administration in infertile men has potential benefits, although its action should be considered by evaluating its synergic action with testosterone, and well-controlled, powerful trials are required. Prospective studies and new compounds could be developed in the near future.(1) Background Ranunculus bulumei is a flowering plant that belongs to the Ranunculus species. Several Ranunculus species, such as R. aquatilis and R. muricatus, have traditionally been used to treat fever and rheumatism throughout Asia, suggesting that plants belonging to the Ranunculus species may have anti-inflammatory effects. To our knowledge, the pharmacological activity of R. bulumei has not been reported. Therefore, in this study, we aim to assess the anti-inflammatory activity of a methanol extract that was derived from R. bulumei (Rb-ME) in macrophage-mediated inflammatory responses and to identify the molecular mechanism that underlies any anti-inflammatory action. (2) Methods The anti-inflammatory efficacy of Rb-ME was evaluated while using in vitro and in vivo experiments. The RAW264.7 cells and peritoneal macrophages were stimulated by lipopolysaccharide (LPS). In addition, LPS-induced peritonitis and HCl/EtOH-triggered gastritis models were produced. A nitric oxide (NO) assay, real-time PCR, luME alleviated inflammatory responses and the levels of p-IκBα in mice with LPS-induced peritonitis and HCl/EtOH-induced gastritis. (4) Conclusions Rb-ME has anti-inflammatory capacity by suppressing NF-κB signaling and it has been found to target Src and Syk in the NF-κB pathway. PURPOSE The aim of this study was to systematically analyze the clinical characteristics of a large cohort of parasagittal meningioma (PM) and to evaluate the patients' outcomes and best treatment strategies based on tumor features. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/tubastatin-a.html METHODS To minimize selection bias we performed a single-institutional review of PM with restricted criteria. One hundred and ninety-two consecutive patients who met criteria for inclusion were reviewed from 2003 to 2011 in our general hospital. RESULTS A total of 131 cases (68.2%) were with WHO grade I, while grade II and grade III PMs constituted 40 (20.8%) and 21 cases (10.9%). Higher histological grade was associated with loss of trimethylation of H3K27 (P = 0.000). For WHO grade I PMs, GTR was significantly associated with a better PFS (P = 0.023); however, adjuvant radiotherapy did not benefit patients with STR (P = 0.215). For de novo high-grade (WHO grade II and III) PMs (n = 37), adjuvant radiotherapy was associated with a significantly longer OS (P = 0.013), while no difference was observed between GTR and STR (P = 0.654). In recurrent high-grade PM patients (n = 24), GTR combined with adjuvant radiotherapy increased PFS (P = 0.005). CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrated that PMs were a heterogeneous group of tumors with a high proportion of high-grade tumors that often displayed aggressive clinical behaviors. Low-grade PM benefited from radical resection, whereas high-grade de novo PM did not. Adjuvant radiotherapy significantly prolonged OS for high-grade primary PM, but did not impact survival of patients with subtotally resected low-grade tumors. Long-term outcome of high-grade recurrent PMs was dismal. METHODS We created an online survey to identify the current international clinical practice regarding screening for and management of subsequent asymptomatic meningiomas among CAYA cancer survivors. Fifty-nine physicians from North America and Europe with expertise relevant to meningiomas were invited to participate. RESULTS Thirty-four physicians (58%) completed the survey. The reported number of CAYA cancer survivors that physicians are willing to screen to detect one meningioma varied widely from 0 to 750 (median 50). Physicians expressed concerns regarding harms from MRI screening, including risks of unnecessary interventions (n = 25, 73%) and overdiagnosis (n = 19, 56%). Growth pattern (n = 33, 97%), location (n = 31, 91%) and size (n = 29, 85%) were endorsed as the most important factors influencing the decision to treat asymptomatic meningiomas. A challenging location (n = 14, 52%), indolent tumor growth pattern (n = 13, 48%), and absence of symptoms (n = 12, 44%) were endorsed as the main reasons to monitor without intervention. CONCLUSIONS There is international variation in opinions and clinical practice regarding screening for subsequent asymptomatic meningiomas among at risk CAYA cancer survivors. Decision-making regarding interventions of asymptomatic meningiomas are largely driven by clinical characteristics. In addition, the excessive hydrolysis of the nitrile to form the corresponding carboxylic acid was also achieved with increasing the amount of NaOH and prolonging the reaction time.The association of Cu-X (X = -H, -Cl, and -F) with H2CCHCHmYn and HCCCHmYn (Y = -Cl, -F, -OH, -CH3) has been studied at a high level of theory. The density functional theory (DFT) at B3LYP/6-311G(d,p)//B3LYP/6-311 + G(3df,2p) level has been chosen to calculate the structure and the relative stability of 24 different complexes. The interaction of Cu-F with the derivatives of ethylene and acetylene was found very strong, with interaction energies close to those of conventional covalent bonds. In all complexes, the most stable structure was found when Cu-X is positioned on the unsaturated CC bond, forming a three-membered ring that leads to longer CC bond distances. Both ethylene and acetylene complexes show similar trends of interaction energies with respect to the same moiety. All electronic indexes analyzed by means of the QTAIM, ELF, and NBO formalisms indicate that the strength of the interaction should increase with the number of withdrawing substituents in both series of compounds. This pictorial review attempts to provide insights to interpret the radiological appearances of the craniocervical junction on conventional radiography, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging in relation to various musculoskeletal disease processes.

After longtime salivary incubation of 12 d, the bactericidal effect started to weaken, but the anti-adhesion and inhibition effect to biofilm development still exist after 24 d of salivary incubation. The application of a totarol coating on implant or abutment surfaces is a promising potential prophylactic approach against peri-implantitis. In this work, tantalum thin films were prepared on titanium substrates by an ion beam sputtering method. Tantalum thin films were irradiated by gamma-ray with different total dose levels. The effect of irradiation on the phase composition, microstructure, surface morphology, and chemical resistance were analyzed. Besides, in vitro cytocompatibility of tantalum films treated with different radiation doses were evaluated via 3T3-E1 cells. Experimental results showed that higher radiation dose resulted in reductions in crystalline nature, denser morphology, lower elastic modulus, less oxygen vacancies and better corrosion resistance. Additionally, 3T3-E1 cells adhered and spread well on the surface of tantalum film with irradiation exposure to 10 kGy. The dense surface morphology, less density of chemical defects and amorphous phase produced by the gamma-ray irradiation played a major role in the improvement of mechanical compatibility, electrochemical stability property along with the cytocompatibility of the tantalum films. In this work, a new bioactive glass was designed, prepared by means of a melt-quenching route and characterized in terms of both thermal properties and biological performance. The main objective was to obtain a novel product with high temperature of crystallization in view of possible thermal treatments, as well as remarkable biological responsiveness. Thermal behavior was investigated by heating microscopy, differential thermal analysis (DTA) and sintering tests. The glass displayed a very high crystallization temperature and the samples remained completely amorphous after sintering. Bioactivity was evaluated by means of Simulated Body Fluid (SBF) assay, which is a widely used method to preliminary investigate samples' reactivity in vitro; the glass showed a strong apatite forming ability. Additionally, in order to exclude cytotoxic effects, biocompatibility was verified according to ISO standard 10993. Finally, the biological potential of the new glass was tested by using an innovative 3D cellular model, that mimicked the potential clinical application of a given biomaterial. Human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BM-****) were employed to study the performance of bioactive glass granules in such 3D cellular model. The results showed that the bioactive glass supported human BM-**** adhesion, colonization and bone differentiation. Thus, this new bioactive glass looks particularly promising for orthopedic applications, bone tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, especially when a thermal treatment is necessary for the production of specific devices. The goal of a biomaterial is to support the bone tissue regeneration process at the defect site and eventually degrade in situ and get replaced with the newly generated bone tissue. Nanocomposite biomaterials are a relatively new class of materials that incorporate a biopolymeric and biodegradable matrix structure with bioactive and easily resorbable fillers which are nano-sized. This article is a review of a few polymeric nanocomposite biomaterials which are potential candidates for bone tissue regeneration. These nanocomposites have been broadly classified into two groups viz. natural and synthetic polymer based. Natural polymer-based nanocomposites include materials fabricated through reinforcement of nanoparticles and/or nanofibers in a natural polymer matrix. Several widely used natural biopolymers, such as chitosan (CS), collagen (Col), cellulose, silk fibroin (SF), alginate, and fucoidan, have been reviewed regarding their present investigation on the incorporation of nanomaterial, biocompatibility, ansical properties, such as pore size, porosity, particle size, and mechanical strength which strongly influences cell attachment, proliferation, and subsequent tissue growth has been covered in this review. This review has been sculptured around a case by case basis of current research that is being undertaken in the field of bone regeneration engineering. The nanofillers induced into the polymeric matrix render important properties, such as large surface area, improved mechanical strength as well as stability, improved cell adhesion, proliferation, and cell differentiation. The selection of nanocomposites is thus crucial in the analysis of viable treatment strategies for bone tissue regeneration for specific bone defects such as craniofacial defects. The effects of growth factor incorporation on the nanocomposite for controlling new bone generation are also important during the biomaterial design phase. EXPERIMENTS The bimetallic gold-core palladium-dendritic shell nanoparticles (Au@PdNDs) were synthesized by hot injection method and stabilized with methoxy polyethylene glycol thiol (mPEG-SH). An anti-cancer drug, doxorubicin (DOX) was conjugated to the bimetallic nanodendrites leading to the formation of DOX/Au@PdNDs.PEG complex. We used TEM, FTIR, and zeta-potential to study the drug-nanodendrites interaction. The effect of DOX binding and release capacity with regards to pH, adsorption kinetics, solvent polarity, isotherms and temperature on Au@PdNDs.PEG were investigated. FINDINGS The results showed a spontaneous heterogeneous binding of DOX on the Au@PdNDs.PEG surfaces and time-dependent loading capacity of ~90% maximum adsorption within 24 h. After longtime salivary incubation of 12 d, the bactericidal effect started to weaken, but the anti-adhesion and inhibition effect to biofilm development still exist after 24 d of salivary incubation. The application of a totarol coating on implant or abutment surfaces is a promising potential prophylactic approach against peri-implantitis. In this work, tantalum thin films were prepared on titanium substrates by an ion beam sputtering method. Tantalum thin films were irradiated by gamma-ray with different total dose levels. The effect of irradiation on the phase composition, microstructure, surface morphology, and chemical resistance were analyzed. Besides, in vitro cytocompatibility of tantalum films treated with different radiation doses were evaluated via 3T3-E1 cells. Experimental results showed that higher radiation dose resulted in reductions in crystalline nature, denser morphology, lower elastic modulus, less oxygen vacancies and better corrosion resistance. Additionally, 3T3-E1 cells adhered and spread well on the surface of tantalum film with irradiation exposure to 10 kGy. The dense surface morphology, less density of chemical defects and amorphous phase produced by the gamma-ray irradiation played a major role in the improvement of mechanical compatibility, electrochemical stability property along with the cytocompatibility of the tantalum films. In this work, a new bioactive glass was designed, prepared by means of a melt-quenching route and characterized in terms of both thermal properties and biological performance. The main objective was to obtain a novel product with high temperature of crystallization in view of possible thermal treatments, as well as remarkable biological responsiveness. Thermal behavior was investigated by heating microscopy, differential thermal analysis (DTA) and sintering tests. The glass displayed a very high crystallization temperature and the samples remained completely amorphous after sintering. Bioactivity was evaluated by means of Simulated Body Fluid (SBF) assay, which is a widely used method to preliminary investigate samples' reactivity in vitro; the glass showed a strong apatite forming ability. Additionally, in order to exclude cytotoxic effects, biocompatibility was verified according to ISO standard 10993. Finally, the biological potential of the new glass was tested by using an innovative 3D cellular model, that mimicked the potential clinical application of a given biomaterial. Human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) were employed to study the performance of bioactive glass granules in such 3D cellular model. The results showed that the bioactive glass supported human BM-MSCs adhesion, colonization and bone differentiation. Thus, this new bioactive glass looks particularly promising for orthopedic applications, bone tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, especially when a thermal treatment is necessary for the production of specific devices. The goal of a biomaterial is to support the bone tissue regeneration process at the defect site and eventually degrade in situ and get replaced with the newly generated bone tissue. Nanocomposite biomaterials are a relatively new class of materials that incorporate a biopolymeric and biodegradable matrix structure with bioactive and easily resorbable fillers which are nano-sized. This article is a review of a few polymeric nanocomposite biomaterials which are potential candidates for bone tissue regeneration. These nanocomposites have been broadly classified into two groups viz. natural and synthetic polymer based. Natural polymer-based nanocomposites include materials fabricated through reinforcement of nanoparticles and/or nanofibers in a natural polymer matrix. Several widely used natural biopolymers, such as chitosan (CS), collagen (Col), cellulose, silk fibroin (SF), alginate, and fucoidan, have been reviewed regarding their present investigation on the incorporation of nanomaterial, biocompatibility, ansical properties, such as pore size, porosity, particle size, and mechanical strength which strongly influences cell attachment, proliferation, and subsequent tissue growth has been covered in this review. This review has been sculptured around a case by case basis of current research that is being undertaken in the field of bone regeneration engineering. The nanofillers induced into the polymeric matrix render important properties, such as large surface area, improved mechanical strength as well as stability, improved cell adhesion, proliferation, and cell differentiation. The selection of nanocomposites is thus crucial in the analysis of viable treatment strategies for bone tissue regeneration for specific bone defects such as craniofacial defects. The effects of growth factor incorporation on the nanocomposite for controlling new bone generation are also important during the biomaterial design phase. BACKGROUND Many reviews with conflicting findings on dementia caregiver interventions have been published. A meta-review was conducted to synthesize the findings of systematic reviews and meta-analyses. METHODS MEDLINE, PsycINFO, CINAHL and Cochrane Library were searched to identify reviews published during 2006-2018. RESULTS Sixty reviews covering > 500 intervention studies were selected and appraised with Assessment of Multiple Systematic Reviews (AMSTAR) II. The great majority of studies were of low quality according to AMSTAR II, but quality factors appeared unrelated to the conclusions obtained. Depression was most modifiable, with effects found across a spectrum of interventions (psychoeducation, counseling/psychotherapy, occupational therapy, mindfulness-based interventions, multicomponent interventions, etc.). Evidence of intervention effect was also found for quality of life (psychoeducation), mastery (psychoeducation, occupational therapy and multicomponent interventions) and communication skills (cervention studies and in making the classification of interventions more transparent and consistent. We further recommend fewer and larger-scale reviews and more attention to positive outcomes in order to better inform the field. Developing interventions with broader impacts and packaging them to meet caregivers' changing needs in the course of dementia should be a priority for researchers and practitioners.BACKGROUND The 13-valent Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV-13) was introduced in the National Immunization Programme (NIP) schedule in Russia in March 2014. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted on a cluster-randomized sample of children and a self-administrated questionnaire for parents/guardians. Nasopharyngeal samples were collected from 438 children younger than 7 years attending nurseries and kindergartens in the Arkhangelsk region, Russia. Detailed demographic data, as well as information about the child's health, traveling, exposure to antimicrobials within the lastat least one antimicrobial regime since birth. None of the hypothesised predictors of S. pneumoniae carriage were statistically significant in univariable and multivariable logistic models. CONCLUSIONS The study identified a high coverage of the PCV-13-vaccine, but serotype replacement and expansion of globally disseminated disease-associated clones with non-vaccine serotypes may be expected. Of the patients with CKD, only 10.6% of them were aware of their CKD. Having albuminuria, high serum creatinine, a family history of kidney disease and being obese were significantly associated with CKD awareness. Structured questionnaire was used to collect the data. The data were entered into Epi-data version 4.2 Software for cleaning and exported to SPSS version 23.0 for data analysis. Multivariate logistic regression was carried out for variables with a p-value less then 0.25 in bivariate logistic regression to determine significant relationships between the dependent and independent variables. Statistical significance was determined at 95% confidence interval (CI) and p-value below 0.05. RESULT The overall use of labour pain relief methods reported was 34.4%, (30.4% non-pharmacolological pain relief methods in this study. Providers' knowledge, attitude and work experience had shown statistical significance with the use of labour pain relief methods. RESULTS Two heterozygous variants, c.487C > T (P163S) and c.467G > A (S156N), were identified in two out of 309 CHD patients with tricuspid valve atresia and transposition of the great arteries, respectively.

For the flood period of 21-22 July 2012, we estimated a total of 79 excess deaths among Beijing residents; by contrast, only 34 deaths were reported among Beijing residents in a study using a traditional surveillance approach. The prevalence of OH is common, but autonomic dysfunction leading to OH has not been well described in patients with chronic LVAD support. The diagnosis of OH in this setting is challenging due to the decreased pulsatility in the flow generated by LVADs, and tilt table testing can be useful in the evaluation of OH in these patients.Cardiac glycosides (CGs) are natural compounds traditionally used for the treatment of heart disorders, and recently new therapeutic possibilities were proposed. Their antitumor reports and clinical trials have notably enhanced, including those targeted for lung cancer, the most lethal type that lacks of new treatment agents, instigating the research of these molecules. The CGs studied here, named C10 3β-[(N-(2-hydroxyethyl)aminoacetyl]amino-3-deoxydigitoxigenin and C18 (3β-(aminoacetyl)amino-3-deoxydigitoxigenin), are semisynthetic derivatives prepared from digitoxigenin scaffold. Both compounds demonstrated high cytotoxicity for different cancer cell lines, especially H460 lung cancer cells, and their cytotoxic effects were deeply investigated using different methodological approaches. C10 induced cell death at lower concentrations and during shorter periods of treatment than C18, and increased the number of small and irregular nuclei, which are characteristics of apoptosis. This type of cell death was confirmed by caspase-3/7 assay. Both compounds reduced H460 cells proliferative potential by long-term action, and C10 showed the strongest potential. Moreover, these compounds induced a significant decrease of the area and viability of H460 spheroids providing preclinical favorable profiles to develop new chemotherapeutic agents.OBJECTIVE A causal link between ballet, hip pain, and pathology has not been established. Change in ballet dancers' hip pain and cartilage defect scores were investigated over 5 years. DESIGN Longitudinal. SETTING Professional ballet company. PARTICIPANTS Twenty-one professional ballet dancers (52% men). INDEPENDENT VARIABLES Baseline and follow-up Copenhagen Hip and Groin Outcome Score (HAGOS-pain subscale); incidence of hip-related pain and levels of dance participation collected daily over 5 years; bony morphology measured on baseline 3T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE Change in cartilage defect score on MRI between baseline and 5-year follow-up. RESULTS Cartilage scores did not increase in 19 (90%) dancers. There was one new cartilage defect and one progressed in severity. At follow-up, all 6 dancers with cartilage defects were men. Group HAGOS pain scores were high 97.5 (7.5) and not related to cartilage defects (P = 0.12). Five (83%) dancers with baseline cartilage defects reported HAGOS pain scores less then 100 at follow-up.

METHODS The medical literature from 1/1/1985 to 11/9/2018 was reviewed by a panel of 19 experts in thyroid disorders representing multiple disciplines. The authors used the best available evidence to construct surgical management recommendations. Levels of evidence were determined using the American College of Physicians grading system, and management recommendations were discussed to consensus. Members of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons reviewed and commented on preliminary drafts of the content. RESULTS These clinical guidelines analyze the indications for thyroidectomy as well as its definitions, technique, morbidity, and outcomes. Specific topics include Pathogenesis and Epidemiology, Initial Evaluation, Imaging, Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy Diagnosis, Molecular Testing, Indications, Extent and Outcomes of Surgery, Preoperative Care, Initial Thyroidectomy, Perioperative Tissue Diagnosis, Nodal Dissection, Concurrent Parathyroidectomy, Hyperthyroid Conditions, Goiter, Adjuncts and Approaches to Thyroidectomy, Laryngology, Familial Thyroid Cancer, Postoperative Care and Complications, Cancer Management, and Reoperation. CONCLUSION Evidence-based guidelines were created to assist clinicians in the optimal surgical management of thyroid disease.We report a case of a 55-year-old man who presented with recurrent syncope 15 months after HeartWare left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation and was found to have diminished LVAD flow and pulsatility on tilt table testing leading to severe orthostatic hypotension (OH). The prevalence of OH is common, but autonomic dysfunction leading to OH has not been well described in patients with chronic LVAD support. The diagnosis of OH in this setting is challenging due to the decreased pulsatility in the flow generated by LVADs, and tilt table testing can be useful in the evaluation of OH in these patients.Cardiac glycosides (CGs) are natural compounds traditionally used for the treatment of heart disorders, and recently new therapeutic possibilities were proposed. Their antitumor reports and clinical trials have notably enhanced, including those targeted for lung cancer, the most lethal type that lacks of new treatment agents, instigating the research of these molecules. The CGs studied here, named C10 3β-[(N-(2-hydroxyethyl)aminoacetyl]amino-3-deoxydigitoxigenin and C18 (3β-(aminoacetyl)amino-3-deoxydigitoxigenin), are semisynthetic derivatives prepared from digitoxigenin scaffold. Both compounds demonstrated high cytotoxicity for different cancer cell lines, especially H460 lung cancer cells, and their cytotoxic effects were deeply investigated using different methodological approaches. C10 induced cell death at lower concentrations and during shorter periods of treatment than C18, and increased the number of small and irregular nuclei, which are characteristics of apoptosis. This type of cell death was confirmed by caspase-3/7 assay. Both compounds reduced H460 cells proliferative potential by long-term action, and C10 showed the strongest potential. Moreover, these compounds induced a significant decrease of the area and viability of H460 spheroids providing preclinical favorable profiles to develop new chemotherapeutic agents.OBJECTIVE A causal link between ballet, hip pain, and pathology has not been established. Change in ballet dancers' hip pain and cartilage defect scores were investigated over 5 years. DESIGN Longitudinal. SETTING Professional ballet company. PARTICIPANTS Twenty-one professional ballet dancers (52% men). INDEPENDENT VARIABLES Baseline and follow-up Copenhagen Hip and Groin Outcome Score (HAGOS-pain subscale); incidence of hip-related pain and levels of dance participation collected daily over 5 years; bony morphology measured on baseline 3T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE Change in cartilage defect score on MRI between baseline and 5-year follow-up. RESULTS Cartilage scores did not increase in 19 (90%) dancers. There was one new cartilage defect and one progressed in severity. At follow-up, all 6 dancers with cartilage defects were men. Group HAGOS pain scores were high 97.5 (7.5) and not related to cartilage defects (P = 0.12).
