The predominant compounds of ATZs in tap water were ATZ and DEA, with a detection frequency of 99.5% and 98.0%, respectively, followed by ATZ-OH (87.3%), DACT (84.0%), and DIA (78.1%). Significant regional variations (p  less then  0.05) were found in the concentrations of ATZs in tap water, and the highest concentration of ΣATZs (median 254 ng/L, range 0.44 ng/L-3.04 μg/L) was found in Northeastern China, followed by Eastern (37.2 ng/L, 0.02-706 ng/L), Northern (30.2 ng/L, 0.04-317 ng/L), Central (29.3 ng/L, 0.04-256 ng/L), Southern (25.0 ng/L, 0.04-297 ng/L), Southwestern (17.2 ng/L, 0.02-388 ng/L), and Northwestern China (3.22 ng/L, 0.06-214 ng/L). The level of ΣATZs in groundwater from rural area of China was about 1/3 of that found in tap water. ATZs cannot be removed by boiling tap water. The highest estimated daily intake of ΣATZs (248 ng/kg-body weight/day) was found in the infant population of Changchun, Jilin, Northeastern China. 129I released from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP) accident has been observed in the atmospheric, terrestrial and oceanic environments, and it also entered the marine sediments via dispersion by sea water movement and deposition around Japan. However, there have been few studies of marine sediment cores in contrast to the large number of studies on seawater. In this work, a sediment core collected near FDNPP was analyzed for 129I. It is observed that the 129I/127I atomic ratios in this sediment core are comparable to those in the seawater and sediments collected from offshore Fukushima after the accident, but 2 orders of magnitude higher than those in seawater in this region before the accident, suggesting the significant amount of 129I has been transferred and incorporated to the offshore shallow sediments. The difference in environmental behavior between 129I and 137Cs is discussed based on their depth distributions in the sediment core in comparison with the grain size distribution of sediments. The peak concentrations of iodine isotopes were found in a relatively deeper layer than radiocesium. Radiocesium follows the distribution of fine grains in the sediment core, implying its high association to fine grains. Contaminated mining sediment may cause environmental and human health risk due to potentially hazardous elements (PHEs) leaching into groundwater, especially under very acid (pH ≤ 3) conditions. The capability of Chinese loess to immobilise and retain copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) from element contaminated mining sediment was explored by a column leaching experiment. Results showed that loess could effectively reduce Cu geomobility, and their leachate concentrations were lower than the quality standard (1.0 mg L-1) for ground water in China. The sierozem showed strong adsorption for Zn, Cd and Pb. The geomobility of Cu, Zn, Cd and Pb were affected by pH, electrical conductivity, organic matter and carbonate content of sediment/loess-amended sediment and sierozem. The long-term leaching of PHEs in loess-amended sediment may pose a potential risk to sierozem and groundwater in the region. This study highlights the need to develop a remediation technique to minimise the concentration level of hazardous elements in the mining sediment. Further information about the water quality at the river mouths was provided and, in addition to the traditional evaluation of single chemical parameters, a multi-way principal component analysis was employed in order to depict disparities among sampling sites, water layers and seasonal conditions with the final aim of evaluating trace element phase partitioning. Results indicated that the suspended particulate matter acts as the main effective vehicle for Cu, Cr, Fe, Ni and Pb, and enhanced adsorption processes resulted in elevated partitioning coefficients, especially for Fe and Pb. Although disparities occurred between sampling sites and seasons, trace elements showing affinity for the solid phase appeared to be partially bound to the colloidal material. Conversely, As and Cs prevailed in the truly dissolved fraction, especially in seawater and showed scarce affinity for both the suspended particles and colloids.

  • Circular RNAs (circRNAs) play important roles in the self-renewal of stem cells. However, their significance and regulatory mechanisms in female germline stem cells (FGSCs) are largely unknown. Here, we identified an N 6-methyladenosine (m6A)-modified circRNA, circGFRα1, which is highly abundant in mouse ovary and stage-specifically expressed in mouse FGSC development. Knockdown of circGFRα1 in FGSCs significantly reduced their self-renewal. In contrast, overexpression of circGFRα1 enhanced FGSC self-renewal. Mechanistically, circGFRα1 promotes FGSC self-renewal by acting as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) that sponges miR-449, leading to enhanced GFRα1 expression and activation of the glial cell derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) signaling pathway. Furthermore, circGFRα1 acts as a ceRNA based on METTL14-mediated cytoplasmic export through the GGACU motif. Our study should help to understand the mechanisms regulating germ cell development, add new evidence on the mechanism of action of circRNA, and deepen our understanding of the development of FGSCs.

Among emerging and underexplored targets, transient receptor potential (TRP) channels belonging to a superfamily of non-selective cation channels which play critical roles in the responses to a number of external stimuli from the external environment were found to be related to cancer development, including glioma. Here, we discuss the potential as biological markers of diagnosis and prognosis of TRPC6, TRPM8, TRPV4, or TRPV1/V2 being associated with glioma patient overall survival. TRPs-inducing common or distinct mechanisms associated with their Ca2+-channel permeability and/or kinase function were detailed as involving miRNA or secondary effector signaling cascades in turn controlling proliferation, cell cycle, apoptotic pathways, DNA repair, resistance to treatment as well as migration/invasion. These recent observations of the key role played by TRPs such as TRPC6 in GBM growth and invasiveness, TRPV2 in proliferation and glioma-stem cell differentiation and TRPM2 as channel carriers of cytotoxic chemotherapy within glioma cells, should offer new directions for innovation in treatment strategies of high-grade glioma as GBM to overcome high resistance and recurrence.Network approaches provide sensitive biomarkers for neurological conditions, such as Alzheimer's disease (AD). We have derived structural connectomes by extracting gradient subsets from a high-spatial, high-angular resolution diffusion acquisition (120 directions, 43-μm-size voxels). We have simulated protocols with 12, 15, 20, 30, 45, 60, 80, 100, and 120 angles and at 43, 86, or 172-μm voxel sizes. The rotational stability of these schemes increased with angular resolution.

  • We show how the competition between sensing and adaptation can result in a performance peak in Escherichia coli chemotaxis using extensive numerical simulations in a detailed theoretical model. Receptor clustering amplifies the input signal coming from ligand binding which enhances chemotactic efficiency. But large clusters also induce large fluctuations in total activity since the number of clusters goes down. The activity and hence the run-tumble motility now gets controlled by methylation levels which are part of adaptation module rather than ligand binding. This reduces chemotactic efficiency.We address the role of geometrical asymmetry in the occurrence of spin rectification in two-dimensional quantum spin chains subject to two reservoirs at the boundaries, modeled by quantum master equations. We discuss the differences in the rectification for some one-dimensional cases, and present numerical results of the rectification coefficient R for different values of the anisotropy parameter of the XXZ model, and different configurations of boundary drives, including both local and nonlocal dissipators. Our results also show that geometrical asymmetry, along with inhomogeneous magnetic fields, can induce spin current rectification even in the XX model, indicating that the phenomenon of rectification due to geometry may be of general occurrence in quantum spin systems.Neural systems process information in a dynamical regime between silence and chaotic dynamics.     We show how the competition between sensing and adaptation can result in a performance peak in Escherichia coli chemotaxis using extensive numerical simulations in a detailed theoretical model. Receptor clustering amplifies the input signal coming from ligand binding which enhances chemotactic efficiency. But large clusters also induce large fluctuations in total activity since the number of clusters goes down. The activity and hence the run-tumble motility now gets controlled by methylation levels which are part of adaptation module rather than ligand binding. This reduces chemotactic efficiency.We address the role of geometrical asymmetry in the occurrence of spin rectification in two-dimensional quantum spin chains subject to two reservoirs at the boundaries, modeled by quantum master equations. We discuss the differences in the rectification for some one-dimensional cases, and present numerical results of the rectification coefficient R for different values of the anisotropy parameter of the XXZ model, and different configurations of boundary drives, including both local and nonlocal dissipators. Based on the Cochrane Handbook, the combined analysis was performed using Revman 5.3 software. RESULTS A total of 20 RCTs with 1,737 patients who underwent cesarean section were included. Meta-analysis showed that the pain score in the ketamine group was less than that of the control group (mean difference [MD], -1.10; 95% confidence interval [CI], -1.61, -0.59; P less then 0.0001). Application of ketamine during cesarean section also resulted in decreased consumption of morphine when compared with the control group (MD, -6.11 mg; 95% CI, -9.93, -2.29; P = 0.002). In addition, the first time required for analgesia was significantly longer in the ketamine group than that of the control group (MD, 72.48 minutes; 95% CI, 50.85, 94.11; P less then 0.00001). LIMITATIONS Limited patients were included with moderate strength. CONCLUSIONS Ketamine supplementation during cesarean section reduces pain and morphine consumption and prolongs the postoperative analgesia.   • Feasibility of the stimulation program in a health care setting are discussed evaluating its benefits for cancer children and their families.This study aimed to investigate the use of Plasma Rich in Growth Factors (PRGF) associated with tissue ReGeneraTing Agent (RGTA) drops for the treatment of noninfectious corneal ulcers. RGTA treatment was applied (one drop every two days); however, if ulcer closure was not achieved, PRGF eye drops treatment was added (four times/day). The time taken to reach the ulcer closure, the Best Corrected Visual Acuity (BCVA), intraocular pressure (IOP), Visual Analog Scale (VAS, in terms of frequency and severity of symptoms), and Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) were evaluated. Seventy-four patients (79 eyes) were included, and the mean age was 56.8 ± 17.3 years. The neurotrophic corneal ulcer was the most frequent disorder (n = 27, 34.2%), mainly for herpes virus (n = 15, 19.0%). The time of PRGF eye drops treatment associated with the RGTA matrix was 4.2 ± 2.2 (1.5-9.0) months, and the follow-up period was 44.9 ± 31.5 months. The ulcer closure was achieved in 76 eyes (96.2%). The association between malaria and leptospirosis infections was also investigated. Relevant studies that had reported malaria and leptospirosis co-infection were identified from PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. The risk of bias of the studies was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Critical Appraisal Tool. The pooled prevalence of malaria and leptospirosis co-infections among febrile patients and the pooled prevalence of leptospirosis infection among malaria patients were estimated using random effect models. The association between malaria and leptospirosis infection among febrile patients was estimated using random effects infection (186 cases) among malaria patients was 13% (95% CI 9-18%, I2 90.3%). The meta-analysis showed that malaria and leptospirosis co-infections occurred by chance (p 0.434, OR 1.4, 95% CI 0.6-3.28, I2 85.2%). The prevalence of malaria in leptospirosis co-infection among febrile patients in the included studies was low. Co-infection was likely to occur by chance. However, as clinical symptoms of leptospirosis patients were non-specific and not distinguishable from symptoms of malaria patients, clinicians caring for febrile patients in an area where those two diseases are endemic should maintain a high index of suspicion for both diseases and whether mono-infections or co-infections are likely. This review aimed to identify tools being used in ESA countries that support the recording of factors that make AGYW vulnerable to SRH risks and document their use. A mixed-methods approach was used to find available English language tools that had been designed to assess the vulnerability of AGYW SRH risks including literature reviews and key informant interviews with thirty-five stakeholders. Twenty-two tools were identified, and experiences of their use obtained through the interviews. All but one tool focused on HIV prevention, and most aimed at establishing eligibility for programmes, though not aligned with programme type. Analyses of the content of seventeen tools showed information collection related to behavioral, biological, and structural risk factors of HIV and other aspects of AGYWs' lives. There was considerable diversity in the ways in which these questions were framed. This study aimed to compare the implementation and conduct of the Pharmacy Game of participant universities and their students' performance in the same educational task. Data were collected via a questionnaire completed by academic staff in April 2020, and the collation of results of the same patient case was conducted at each university (April 2020 to March 2021). The main results reflected differences in the game frequencies and the curricular approach (standalone or integrated course) and in the learning outcomes for the Pharmacy Game. Other differences were identified in the extent to which students of other professions were part of the game such as medical students or pharmacy assistants. Student case outcomes revealed similar strengths across the universities in patient communication and focus on safety, with variations identified as areas for improvement. Collation of the international utilization of the Pharmacy Game identified a broad spectrum of similar learning outcomes, inspiring a model of international core and aspirational learning outcomes. While the Pharmacy Game has been implemented with flexibility regarding the numbers of teams (4-10) and the duration of activity (12-36 days), all universities reported positive experiences and student outcomes, suggesting that the intervention represents a potential tool to deliver capstone learning experiences, promote interprofessional education, reinforce patient safety, and prepare pharmacy graduates for future practice.
    Feasibility of the stimulation program in a health care setting are discussed evaluating its benefits for cancer children and their families.This study aimed to investigate the use of Plasma Rich in Growth Factors (PRGF) associated with tissue ReGeneraTing Agent (RGTA) drops for the treatment of noninfectious corneal ulcers. RGTA treatment was applied (one drop every two days); however, if ulcer closure was not achieved, PRGF eye drops treatment was added (four times/day). The time taken to reach the ulcer closure, the Best Corrected Visual Acuity (BCVA), intraocular pressure (IOP), Visual Analog Scale (VAS, in terms of frequency and severity of symptoms), and Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) were evaluated. Seventy-four patients (79 eyes) were included, and the mean age was 56.8 ± 17.3 years. The neurotrophic corneal ulcer was the most frequent disorder (n = 27, 34.2%), mainly for herpes virus (n = 15, 19.0%). The time of PRGF eye drops treatment associated with the RGTA matrix was 4.2 ± 2.2 (1.5-9.0) months, and the follow-up period was 44.9 ± 31.5 months. The ulcer closure was achieved in 76 eyes (96.2%). Therefore, co-infection with malaria and leptospirosis may occur in overlapping areas. The present study aimed to quantify the prevalence of malaria and leptospirosis co-infection among febrile patients. The association between malaria and leptospirosis infections was also investigated. Relevant studies that had reported malaria and leptospirosis co-infection were identified from PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. The risk of bias of the studies was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Critical Appraisal Tool. The pooled prevalence of malaria and leptospirosis co-infections among febrile patients and the pooled prevalence of leptospirosis infection among malaria patients were estimated using random effect models. The association between malaria and leptospirosis infection among febrile patients was estimated using random effects infection (186 cases) among malaria patients was 13% (95% CI 9-18%, I2 90.3%). The meta-analysis showed that malaria and leptospirosis co-infections occurred by chance (p 0.434, OR 1.4, 95% CI 0.6-3.28, I2 85.2%). The prevalence of malaria in leptospirosis co-infection among febrile patients in the included studies was low. Co-infection was likely to occur by chance. However, as clinical symptoms of leptospirosis patients were non-specific and not distinguishable from symptoms of malaria patients, clinicians caring for febrile patients in an area where those two diseases are endemic should maintain a high index of suspicion for both diseases and whether mono-infections or co-infections are likely. Recognition of this co-infection may play an important role in reducing disease severity and treatment duration.The sexual and reproductive health (SRH) needs of adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) aged 10-24 years remain a cause for concern in the countries of East and Southern Africa (ESA). High rates of adolescent pregnancy and HIV prevalence prevail, and prevention programmes are challenged to identify those at greatest risk. This review aimed to identify tools being used in ESA countries that support the recording of factors that make AGYW vulnerable to SRH risks and document their use. A mixed-methods approach was used to find available English language tools that had been designed to assess the vulnerability of AGYW SRH risks including literature reviews and key informant interviews with thirty-five stakeholders. Twenty-two tools were identified, and experiences of their use obtained through the interviews. All but one tool focused on HIV prevention, and most aimed at establishing eligibility for programmes, though not aligned with programme type. Analyses of the content of seventeen tools showed information collection related to behavioral, biological, and structural risk factors of HIV and other aspects of AGYWs' lives. There was considerable diversity in the ways in which these questions were framed. Aspects of the processes involved in undertaking the risk and vulnerability assessments are presented.The utilization of serious games and simulations in health professional education has increased.   • In an increasingly competitive work world, managers-whose links with subordinates, and their perceptions thereof, are critical components in that relationship-need to monitor employees' mindsets to facilitate their productivity. Our paper investigates organizational justice perceptions as an antecedent to two important outcomes organizational citizenship behaviors and counterproductive work behaviors. The moderating effect of leader-member exchange and the mediating effect of work motivation were incorporated into a parsimonious moderated-mediation model designed to assist managers in achieving the stated objective. The model was tested on 3,293 Romanian workers, randomly divided into sub-samples of 1,098, 1,098, and 1,097 participants. Indicating high data consistency and credibility for the most part, in each sub-group, all the variables associated as predicted, with the notable exception of LMX. Implications, limitations, and suggestions for future research are discussed, with emphasis on the investigation's cultural context.This study aimed to verify the reliability and validity of the Korean version of the Work Need Satisfaction Scale for working adults, based on the psychology of working theory. A total of 589 working adults in Korea responded to the online survey. Of these respondents, 339 were used for exploratory factor analysis and 250 for confirmatory factor analysis. In Stage 1, we translated all items into Korean, ****-translated them into English, and then verified the accuracy of the translation. Exploratory factor analysis revealed the 5-factor structure of the Korean version of the Work Need Satisfaction Scale reflecting those of the original scale (survival needs, social contribution needs, autonomy, relatedness, and competence). The scale showed good internal consistency. In Stage 2, confirmatory factor analysis was conducted, and the results indicated that there were no significant differences between a correlational model, a higher-order model, and a higher-order self-determination needs model. Thus, we offered a higher-order self-determination needs model, which had better model fit and was consistent with the original scale and the psychology of working theoretical framework. In addition, convergent and discriminant validity were supported by correlation estimates of the Korean version of the Work Need Satisfaction Scale, and the concurrent validity showed that the Korean version of the Work Need Satisfaction Scale had a significant proportion of explained variance for outcomes. The findings support the conclusion that this study established strong internal consistency and validity for the Korean version of the Work Need Satisfaction Scale. Thus, the scale is unique and meaningful for measuring need satisfaction in work settings in Korea.This study employs entitativity theory to explore how acknowledgment letters from various thankers (e.g., a group of beneficiaries, a charity) influence donors' subsequent donation desires. Study 1 reveals that an acknowledgment letter from a group of beneficiaries elicits more favorable subsequent donation desires than an acknowledgment letter from a charity. To shed light on the psychological mechanism underlying this effect, Study 2 shows that a categorical appellation can enhance the effects of an acknowledgment letter sent by a charity. Although researchers have realized that workplace informal learning (IL) increasingly reveals its potential value to individual development, the relationship between IL and innovation has been under-explored. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of IL on innovative teaching, through the mediating roles of three types of teaching-related efficacy, with a particular focus on college teachers and online context. A sample of 479 Chinese college teachers was randomly selected to participate in the survey. The results showed that teachers' online IL in pandemic improved their personal teaching efficacy and ICT efficacy (information and communication technology efficacy), and then facilitated their innovative teaching without differences of gender and teaching-age effect. Whereas, general teaching efficacy was not a mediator between online IL and innovative teaching. Hence, we proposed a can-do motivating model of teacher efficacy in fostering innovative teaching through informal learning. It implies three properties of teachers' online IL social interaction, autonomous learning and novelty-seeking. It also revealed that innovative teaching can be driven in COVID-19 pandemic, mainly by learning domain-specific knowledge and skills, thus enhancing personal teaching efficacy and ICT efficacy in online teaching context.Emerging social media platforms such as Twitter and its Chinese equivalent Weibo have become important in information-sharing and communication.   • Crystallization behavior and nano-micro structure of lauric acid-rich fats were investigated in the absence and presence of corresponding diglycerides (DAGs) with a concentration of 2%. Results showed that the melting point and onset crystallization temperature of fats with DAGs were promoted due to the interaction of DAGs with triglycerides (TAGs). Crystallization kinetics found that the addition of DAGs shortened the fat nucleation time, and slowed down the crystal growth rate. Based on X-ray diffraction results, adding DAGs led to the decrease of the thickness of the crystalline domain and alteration of crystallization pattern. Synchrotron radiation small-angle X-ray scattering measurement further revealed the existence of fat crystal nanoplatelets with a rough surface in all the lauric acid-rich fats. However, larger structures of crystalline nanoplatelets appeared in the fats with 2% DAGs. Furthermore, denser and uniform microstructure networks appeared with more tiny crystals and higher fractal dimensions after the addition of DAGs.A variety of methods for producing cassava flour exist, resulting in very heterogeneous products that exhibit various colours, textures, granulometries, and flavours. We also evaluated the concentrations of total antioxidant capacity (TAC), and malondialdehyde (MDA) in the IVM spent medium in relation to melatonin supplementation. Cumulus oocyte complexes (COCs) were cultured in in vitro maturation media (IVM) supplemented with either 0.0, 25.0, 50.0 or 75.0 μM of melatonin for 30 h. Matured oocytes were then fertilized in vitro with epididymal camel spermatozoa. Following IVF, the resulting embryos were cultured in vitro for seven days. The percentage of maturation, fertilization, cleavage, and embryo developmental rates (morula and blastocyst) was recorded (experiment 1). TAC and MDA levels in the IVM spent maturation media were also evaluated at 30 h post-IVM (experiment 2). The results showed that supplementation of IVM media with 25 μM melatonin significantly improved oocyte nuclear maturation, fertilization (18 h post-insemination; pi), cleavage (day 3 pi), morula (day 5 pi) and blastocyst (day 7 pi) rates as compared with the controls and other melatonin-supplemented groups. Furthermore, the TAC in the IVM spent media was significantly increased (P less then 0.05) in 25 μM melatonin supplemented groups than those supplemented with 0.0, 50.0, 75.0 μM melatonin. However, the concentration of MDA was significantly lower (P less then 0.05) in IVM media supplemented with 25.0 μM of melatonin when compared with the control and other treatment groups. Although ****-related diagnostic testing has long been implemented in South Africa, the genotyping approach previously failed for the SA Indian population as it was based on other SA population groups. Because this population is uniquely admixed, the lack of population-specific data resulted in the implementation of comprehensive mutation screens for BRCA1/2. A total of 223 female patients were screened for clinically actionable variants. High-resolution melting analysis (HRMA) was used to screen 88 patients for DNA alterations in the coding and splice site boundaries of BRCA1 exons 2-9, BRCA1 exons 11-23, BRCA2 exons 2-9 and BRCA2 exons 12-27. The protein truncation test (PTT) was used to screen the three larger exons (BRCA1 exon 10 and BRCA2 exons 10 and 11) for protein termination changes. Multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA) was used to determine the presence of larger indels and possible copy number differences. Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) was performed on the remaining 135 samples. All potential variants were confirmed by performing Sanger DNA sequencing. The search revealed 28 different pathogenic heterozygotic variants, together with nine variants of unknown significance (VUS). The results suggested that the SA Indian population represents a different genetic admixture compared to that of mainland India, as only five pathogenic variants corresponded to those reported for mainland India. Familial breast cancer testing for SA Indian patients should therefore be performed as comprehensively as possible as the pathogenic variants seem to be family- rather than population-specific. Furthermore, predictive testing of family members will contribute to relieve the financial burden on the country's healthcare system, as increased surveillance and appropriate management could prevent disease.

This study helps to reveal the association between levels of specific microbial species in the gut and the anti-tumor effect of TMZ. This study aims to investigate the preparation of sustained-release microcapsules of salvianolic acid. The stability of salvianolic acid microcapsules was improved, and the time of action was prolonged in the present study. This was prepared using the spray-drying method, with chitosan as the carrier. In the preparation process, the prescription and process were optimized by L9 (34) using an orthogonal design, with yield and drug loading as indexes, in order to obtain optimum conditions. The optimal process and prescription for the preparation of salvianolic acid microcapsules were found to be as follows mass concentration of chitosan, 1.5%; mass ratio of salvianolic acid to chitosan, 13; inlet air temperature, 190°C; and peristaltic pump speed, 300 mL·h-1. The surface of the microcapsules was round, the drug loading was 25.99% ± 2.14%, the yield was 51.88% ± 2.84%, the entrapment efficiency was 86.21% ± 2.89%, and the average particle size was 105.6 ± 2.56 nm. The microcapsules in vitro had certain sustained release characteristics.

    The COVID-19 pandemic has serious social, economic and health consequences. Particularly in these times, it is important to maintain individual health. Therefore, it is important to take part in routine health checkups. Consequently, our objective was to describe the frequency and to identify the determinants of postponed routine health checkups.

    Cross-sectional data from the nationally representative online-survey "COVID-19 Snapshot Monitoring in Germany (COSMO)" was used (wave 17; July 2020).

    In sum, 974 individuals were included in our analytical sample (average age was 45.9 years, SD 16.5, 18-74 years). Postponed routine health checkups (yes or no) since March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic were assessed.

    More than 16% of the individuals reported postponed routine health checkups in the past few months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Particularly, individuals aged 30-49 years had postponed health checkups (21%). The probability of postponed health checkups was positively associated with the presence of chronic diseases (odds ratio [OR] 1.68, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.15-2.47), higher affect regarding COVID-19 (OR 1.44, 95%-CI 1.16-1.78), and higher presumed severity of COVID-19 (OR 1.17, 95%-CI 1.01-1.35), whereas the outcome measure was not associated with socioeconomic factors. Data showed that a sizeable part (about one of six individuals) of the population reported postponed routine health checkups due to the COVID-19 pandemic between March and July 2020.

Previous results suggest that V. vinifera cv Regent tolerance to P. viticola may be mediated in the first hours post inoculation by fatty acid (FA) associated signalling. In the present study we characterized FA modulation in V. vinifera cv Regent leaves upon inoculation with P. viticola, E. necator and B. cinerea and correlated FA modulation with the expression profiles of genes encoding the FA desaturases FAD6 and FAD8. In all the interactions, a progressive desaturation of stearic acid to α-linolenic acid, precursor of jasmonic acid, occurred, which was observed for a longer period against B. cinerea. Our results provide evidence of a distinct FA meditated signalling pattern in grapevine interaction with biotrophs and necrotrophs.
