Sheep are highly adequate models for human renal diseases because of their many similarities in the histology and physiology of kidney and pathogenesis of kidney diseases. However, the lack of a simple method to measure glomerular filtration rate (GFR) limits its use as a model of renal diseases. Hence, we aimed to develop a simple method to measure GFR based on the plasma clearance of iohexol by assessing different pharmacokinetic models (a) CL2 two-compartment (samples from 15 to 420 min; reference method); (b) CL1 one-compartment (samples from 60 to 420 min); (c) CLlf CL1 adjusted by a correction formula and (d) SM simplified CL2 (15 to 300 min). Specific statistics of agreement were used to test the models against CL2. The agreement between CL1 and CL2 was low, but both CL1f and SM showed excellent agreement with CL2, as indicated by a total deviation index of ~5-6%, a concordance correlation of 0.98-0.99% and a coverage probability of 99-100%, respectively. Biodiversity and agro-biodiversity hotspots partly overlap, but their geographic intricacies have rarely been investigated together. Here we review the history of these two concepts and explore their geographic relationship by analysing global distribution and human use data for all plants, and for major crops and associated wild relatives. We highlight a geographic continuum between agro-biodiversity hotspots that contain high richness in species that are intensively used and well known by humanity (i.e., major crops and most viewed species on Wikipedia) and biodiversity hotspots encompassing species that are less heavily used and documented (i.e., crop wild relatives and species lacking information on Wikipedia). Our contribution highlights the key considerations needed for further developing a unifying concept of agro-biodiversity hotspots that encompasses multiple facets of diversity (including genetic and phylogenetic) and the linkage with overall biodiversity. The study aims at investing cytotoxicity; antioxidant; and, for the first time, anti-inflammatory effects of Psilocybe natalensis, a psilocybin-containing mushroom that grows in South Africa, on lipopolysaccharide-induced RAW 264.7 macrophages. Macrophage cells were stimulated with lipopolysaccharide and treated with different concentrations of Psilocybe natalensis mushroom extracted with boiling hot water, cold water and ethanol over 24 h. Quercetin and N-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester were used as positive controls. Effects of extracts on the lipopolysaccharide-induced nitric oxide, prostaglandin E2, and cytokine activities were investigated. Phytochemical analysis, and the antioxidant and cytotoxicity of extracts, were determined. Results showed that the three extracts inhibited the lipopolysaccharide-induced nitric oxide, prostaglandin E2, and interleukin 1β cytokine production significantly in a dose-dependent manner close to that of the positive controls. A study proposed that ethanol and water extracts of Psilocybe natalensis mushroom were safe at concentrations used, and have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. In particular, recent studies have focused on possible pathogenetic mechanisms, and on novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies in order to prevent the onset, make a prompt diagnosis and an accurate nutritional supplementation, and to avoid irreversible optic nerve atrophy. Nowadays, there is clear evidence of the role of cobalamin, folic acid, thiamine, and copper, whereas further studies are needed to define the role of niacin, riboflavin, and pyridoxine. This review aims to summarize the etiology, diagnosis, and treatment of nutritional optic neuropathy, and it is addressed not only to ophthalmologists, but to all physicians who could come in contact with a patient with a possible nutritional optic neuropathy, being a fundamental multidisciplinary approach.

The present work aims to elaborate many juice formulas (F1 to F8) from two dried fruits (jujubes Ziziphus lotus L. and dates Phoenix dactylifera L.). Physicochemical and biochemical characterization of the formula juices shows that juices rich in dates fruits (F1, F3, F5, and F7) are loaded, on average, in total sugars (129.5 g/l), proteins (3.02 g/l), lipids (1.08 g/l), and carotenoid (0.02 mg/l), while juices rich in jujube fruits (F2, F4, F6, and F8) are overloaded, on average, in phenolic compounds (697 mg/l), flavonoids (6.32 mg/l), condensed tannins (2.1 mg/l), hydrolysable tannins (359.5 mg/l), and viscosity (1.062 mm 10-3 s). All formulations developed have a pH that rotates between 5.12 and 5.20. Total antioxidant capacity (CAT) reveals that formulations F1, F3, F5, and F7 show a strong activity compared to the other formulas. The DPPH test shows that all formulated juices have the same antioxidant profile with IC50 values lower than the template (BHT and Vit C). The FRAP test reveals that F2, F4, F6, and F8 formulas have a strong reducing power. Organoleptic evaluation by a jury shows that F4 formula is the best in terms of odor, aroma, and aftertaste agreeability. This genus Agrimonia has been used in traditional medicines of China, Greece, and European countries. It was mainly used as a haemostatic, a tonic for asthenia, and an astringent for diarrhea. Agrimony is part of the division Magnoliophyta; class is represented by order Rosales, family Rosaceae, of the genus Agrimonia. Family Rosaceae-or pink eels-is one of the largest families of flowering plants, including about 100 genera and 3000 species. Rosaceae is common in almost all areas of the globe where flowering plants can grow, but most of them are concentrated in the temperate and subtropical zones of the Northern Hemisphere. Phytochemical investigation on ethanolic extract of A. asiatica led to isolation of four flavonoid derivatives (kaempferol-3-glycoside, quercetin-3-O-α-arabinofuranosyl-β-D-galactopyranoside, 3-O-kaempherol 2,3-di-O-acetyl-4-O-(cis-p-coumaroyl)-6-O-(trans-p-coumaroyl)-β-D-glucosopyranoside, and catechin) alongside of sucrose. All the extracts, fractions, and isolated compounds were tested for antimicrobial and antiplasmodial activities. We also studied the chemical composition of essential oil obtained from the aerial part of A. asiatica. The essential oil constituents from the aerial part of A. asiatica were obtained using a steam-distillation method in wild growing conditions in Kazakhstan. The essential oil extracted from the aerial part of the plant was analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy and its major components amounting to 100% were found to be β-selinene (36.370%), α-panasinsene (21.720%), hexadecanoic acid (7.839%), and 1,2-nonadiene (6.199%). The present study aimed to identify Palestinian women's practices, awareness, and barriers to BSE. Using descriptive-analytical methods, a previously validated questionnaire was administered to a conveniently selected sample of women. The study was conducted among women who visited primary health clinics (PHCs) in Gaza City. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/a1874.html A total of 390 participants who met the selection criteria answered the self-administered questionnaires. We used SPSS version 24.0 to analyze the data. The findings suggest that the practice of BSE among women in Gaza is low, with only 40% of the study participants reporting that they never practiced BSE before, even though 76.7% reported that they were aware of BSE. In general, the main barriers to BSE practices were that participants had wrong perceptions and lacked knowledge about BSE. Others also reported fear of detecting breast cancer as a barrier. The practice of BSE among Palestinian women in the Gaza Strip is low and marred with trivial issues as barriers that could be eliminated with dedicated and extensive educational campaigns in the area. There are contrary results regarding association of vitamin D insufficiency with statin-induced myopathy. This study was done to determine the effect of the vitamin D3 analogue alfacalcidol on Rosuvastatin-induced myopathy in rats. Methodology. Animals were divided into six groups with 6 rats in each group. Groups I and II acted as controls, Group III and Group IV were administered Rosuvastatin 120 mg/kg/day and 160 mg/kg/day, Groups V and VI were administered alfacalcidol 0.1 μg/kg/day in addition to Rosuvastatin 120 mg/kg/day and 160 mg/kg/day, respectively. All drugs were administered orally for 15 days. Plasma creatine kinase (CK) levels were estimated on day 10 and day 15. Animals were sacrificed and muscles were sent for histopathological examination. Results On day 10, Groups V and VI showed a statistically significant increase in plasma CK levels as compared to the control (p 0.05). On comparing the histology, Groups V and VI showed a significant difference as compared to statin-only groups (Groups III and IV) as there were signs of regeneration, less splitting, and fragmentation of muscle fibres. Conclusion The present study shows that the vitamin D analogue alfacalcidol prevents statin-induced myopathy. The serum CK levels are comparable to the control group on day 15 of vitamin D administration. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of rivaroxaban versus warfarin for the treatment of VTE in African Americans. Methods We utilized Optum® De-Identified Electronic Health Record data from 11/1/2012-9/30/2018. We included African Americans experiencing an acute VTE during a hospital or emergency department visit, who received rivaroxaban or warfarin as their first oral anticoagulant within 7-days of the acute VTE event and had ≥1 provider visit in the prior 12-months. Differences in baseline characteristics between cohorts were adjusted using inverse probability-of-treatment weighting based on propensity scores (standard differences less then 0.10 were achieved for all covariates). Our primary endpoint was the composite of recurrent VTE or major bleeding at 6-months. Three- and 12-month timepoints were also assessed. Secondary endpoints included recurrent VTE and major bleeding as individual endpoints.

Here, we discuss recent studies that reveal how DNA sequence and chromatin structure influences the different steps of genome editing. These studies also demonstrate that a deep understanding of the balance between error prone and error free DNA repair pathways is crucial for making genome editing a safe clinical tool, which does not induce further mutations to the genome.Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) is the most common form of malignant brain tumor with poor prognosis. Amplification of Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR), and mutations leading to activation of Phosphatidyl-Inositol-3 Kinase (PI3K) pathway are commonly associated with GBM. We validated the effect of BM-****transplantation in an ICH model in vivo and in vitro and detected changes using immunofluorescence, as well as protein and mRNA expression of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), vimentin (VIM), Cx43, Nrf2, and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1). Our results showed that BM-****transplantation attenuated brain injury after ICH and upregulated VIM expression in vivo and in vitro. Additionally, Cx43 upregulation and Nrf2 nuclear translocation were observed in astrocytes cocultured with BM-MSC. Knockdown of Cx43 by siRNA restrained Nrf2 nuclear translocation. A small portion of the SMC-derived cells became non-SMC cells, most likely vascular stem cells, and constituted 2% to 11% of the cells in each major layer of VGs. In addition, the recipient arterial ECs were the major cellular source of re-endothelialization but did not contribute to neointima formation. The donor venous ECs donated ≈17% neointima cells in the VGs with mild neointima formation and conditional media from ECs after endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition suppressed vascular SMC dedifferentiation. The data were transcribed verbatim and analyzed using thematic analysis. Five themes were identified from the data. These included two themes relating to participants' experience of care, two themes in relation to participants' attitudes toward the type of care they experienced and a final theme related to the role of religion and spirituality in dealing with loss. The findings of this study support the integration of multidisciplinary healthcare teams and the introduction of holistic care as early as possible within hospitals for individuals with terminal cancer, using the biopsychosocial-spiritual model.Rationale Unproven theories abound regarding the long-range uptake and endocrine activity of extracellular blood-borne microRNAs (miRNAs) into tissue. We intend to discuss the efficacy and safety of stereoelectroencephalophraphy (SEEG) monitoring in pediatric patients with difficulty to localize the EZ. We retrospectively analyzed presurgical findings, SEEG data, resections, and outcomes of a series of 72 consecutive pediatric patients ( less then 18 yrs) who had medically refractory epilepsy and received SEEG recording between January 2015 and September 2019. There were 20 girls and 52 boys with a mean age of 10.13 ± 4.11 years old (range 1.8-18 years). Twenty-seven patients (37.5%) had nonlesional magnetic resonance imagings (MRIs). In total, 744 electrodes were implanted for an average of 10.33 ± 2.53 (range 3-18) electrodes per patient. Twenty-eight explorations were unilateral (17 left and 11 right), and 44 explorations were bilateral (12 of which was predominately one side). We intend to discuss the efficacy and safety of stereoelectroencephalophraphy (SEEG) monitoring in pediatric patients with difficulty to localize the EZ. We retrospectively analyzed presurgical findings, SEEG data, resections, and outcomes of a series of 72 consecutive pediatric patients ( less then 18 yrs) who had medically refractory epilepsy and received SEEG recording between January 2015 and September 2019. There were 20 girls and 52 boys with a mean age of 10.13 ± 4.11 years old (range 1.8-18 years). Twenty-seven patients (37.5%) had nonlesional magnetic resonance imagings (MRIs). In total, 744 electrodes were implanted for an average of 10.33 ± 2.53 (range 3-18) electrodes per patient. Physical therapy is standard care for mechanically ventilated patients, but there is no evidence, using nonvolitional, objective measurements, that physical therapy increases muscle strength in this population. The present study tested the hypothesis that 2 weeks of standard, conventional physical therapy provided at a ventilator weaning facility would increase quadriceps strength in mechanically ventilated patients.

We explore ways to reduce errors in laboratory diagnosis of severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus 2 infection by considering preanalytic, analytic, and postanalytic sources. To address preanalytic challenges, we first consider alternative anatomic sites for specimen collection, then discuss self-collection, alternative sampling devices, and transport media. Strengths and limitations of various analytic test systems are considered in the context of postanalytic challenges associated with making test results meaningful, specifically considering the complex relationship between "positive" test results and reproduction and shedding of intact virus. Finally, we provide recommendations regarding healthcare worker surveillance and release of patients with coronavirus disease 2019 from isolation.

From PNDs 28 to 47, female and male pup rats received 17β-estradiol and testosterone, respectively, and about 30 min later, they were forced to run on the treadmill for 30 min once a day. On PNDs 48-55, spatial learning and memory of all rats tested in the water maze, which followed by measurement of BDNF in the hippocampus. Results showed that developmental hypothyroidism induced significant deficits in spatial learning and memory and hippocampal BDNF in both male and female rats.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a recently encountered disease that was declared a pandemic by WHO in 2020. Obesity and other components of the metabolic syndrome may aggravate the severity of COVID-19. Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) represents the hepatic manifestation of metabolic syndrome. The aim of this study was to investigate a possible association between MAFLD and COVID-19 severity.
We performed a retrospective, case-control study, enrolling 71 consecutive COVID-19 patients who were divided into two groups according to the presence or absence of fatty liver by computed tomography scan. All medical records of eligible patients were reviewed including demographic, clinical, laboratory parameters and data regarding the presence of NAFLD and COVID-19 severity.
NAFLD was identified in 22/71 (31%) of the study group. Out of 71, thirteen suffered from severe COVID-19. NAFLD patients had more severe COVID-19 compared with non-NAFLD subjects, 8/22 (36.3%) vs. 5/49(10.2%), (P < 0.005), respectively. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that NAFLD subjects were more likely to have severe COVID-19 disease (odds ratio 3.57, 95% confidence interval 1.22, 14.48, P = 0.0031).
NAFLD represents a high risk for severe COVID-19 irrespective to gender, and independent of metabolic syndrome specifically in male gender. Moreover, obesity, hypertension and metabolic syndrome were also significantly associated with severe COVID-19.

The impact of proton-pump inhibitor (PPI) therapy on subsequent hemorrhage and mortality after variceal hemorrhage is unclear.
Evaluate the associations of PPI use with upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) and death within 30 days of undergoing esophageal variceal band ligation (EBL) separately in inpatient and outpatient settings.
Retrospective review of cirrhotic patients with variceal hemorrhage who underwent EBL between 2005 and 2018. Endoscopic findings, PPI use at admission (inpatients only), PPI use at discharge (inpatients and outpatients), and adverse outcomes data (liver transplant, UGIB, transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt, and death within 30 days of discharge or death during hospitalization) were reviewed.
A total of 446 patients (164 inpatients, 282 outpatients) were included. The most commonly observed outcomes were death within 30 days of discharge in inpatients (12.8%), UGIB within 30 days of discharge in inpatients (21.3%), and UGIB within 30 days of discharge in outpatients (8.5%). For inpatients, prescription of PPI at discharge was associated with a lower risk of bleeding within 30 days (odds ratio 0.30, P = 0.025) and death within 30 days (odds ratio = 0.16, P = 0.002). No other significant associations of PPI with death or UGIB were reported.

Currently, monitoring hepatic venous pressure gradient (HVPG) have been proved to be the best predictor for the risk of variceal bleeding. We performed the study to evaluate the effect of endoscopic therapy + β-blocker vs. covered transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) for the prevention of variceal rebleeding in cirrhotic patients with HVPG ≥16 mmHg.
Consecutive cirrhotic patients with HVPG ≥16 mmHg treated with endoscopic therapy + β-blocker or covered TIPS for variceal bleeding were retrospectively gathered between April 2013 and December 2018. The variceal rebleeding rate, survival, and incidence of overt hepatic encephalopathy (OHE) were compared.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a recently encountered disease that was declared a pandemic by WHO in 2020. Obesity and other components of the metabolic syndrome may aggravate the severity of COVID-19. Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) represents the hepatic manifestation of metabolic syndrome. The aim of this study was to investigate a possible association between MAFLD and COVID-19 severity. We performed a retrospective, case-control study, enrolling 71 consecutive COVID-19 patients who were divided into two groups according to the presence or absence of fatty liver by computed tomography scan. All medical records of eligible patients were reviewed including demographic, clinical, laboratory parameters and data regarding the presence of NAFLD and COVID-19 severity. NAFLD was identified in 22/71 (31%) of the study group. Out of 71, thirteen suffered from severe COVID-19. NAFLD patients had more severe COVID-19 compared with non-NAFLD subjects, 8/22 (36.3%) vs. 5/49(10.2%), (P < 0.005), respectively. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that NAFLD subjects were more likely to have severe COVID-19 disease (odds ratio 3.57, 95% confidence interval 1.22, 14.48, P = 0.0031). The impact of proton-pump inhibitor (PPI) therapy on subsequent hemorrhage and mortality after variceal hemorrhage is unclear. Evaluate the associations of PPI use with upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) and death within 30 days of undergoing esophageal variceal band ligation (EBL) separately in inpatient and outpatient settings. Retrospective review of cirrhotic patients with variceal hemorrhage who underwent EBL between 2005 and 2018. Endoscopic findings, PPI use at admission (inpatients only), PPI use at discharge (inpatients and outpatients), and adverse outcomes data (liver transplant, UGIB, transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt, and death within 30 days of discharge or death during hospitalization) were reviewed. A total of 446 patients (164 inpatients, 282 outpatients) were included. The most commonly observed outcomes were death within 30 days of discharge in inpatients (12.8%), UGIB within 30 days of discharge in inpatients (21.3%), and UGIB within 30 days of discharge in outpatients (8.5%). For inpatients, prescription of PPI at discharge was associated with a lower risk of bleeding within 30 days (odds ratio 0.30, P = 0.025) and death within 30 days (odds ratio = 0.16, P = 0.002). There is a need that new studies with larger sample groups regarding the factors affecting the acceptance of chronic pain.Xiakemycin A (XKA), a new antibiotic in the pyranonaphthoquinone family, shows antitumor activity. However, the type of cell death induced by XKA remains elusive. In this study, we aim to investigate the type of death induced by XKA in hepatic cancer.The apoptotic features, such as chromatic agglutination, reactive oxygen species generation and membrane potential of mitochondria, in HepG2 cells treated by XKA were measured by Hoechst 33342 staining and flow cytometry. Apoptosis of HepG2 cells treated with XKA was determined by Annexin V-FITC/propidium iodide double staining and Western blot analysis, respectively.XKA had a significant dose-dependent elevation of chromatic agglutination, reactive oxygen species generation, Annexin V and propidium iodide staining, decrease of membrane potential. We therefore obtained 3 models. The first was the normal lumbar model, the second the L4 inferior articular process shaped model, while the third was the L5 superior articular process shaped model. We compared the biomechanics of discs of L3/4 and L4/5 in states of forward flexion, backward extension, left and right flexion as well as left and right rotation. RESULTS When the L4 inferior articular process shaped model was in backward extension, left rotation, and right rotation, the stress of the L4/5 disc was greater than in the normal model, especially in the state of extension. When the L5 superior articular process shaped model was in left and right rotation, the biggest stress of the L4/5 disc increased slightly. However, no matter which way the L5 superior articular process or the L4 inferior articular process of model was shaped, the stress impact of the L3/4 disc was small. CONCLUSIONS There is more biomechanical influence on the L4/5 disc when carrying out a foraminoplasty on L4 inferior articular process under a lumber percutaneous endoscopy. A total of 148 subjects with KOA (Kellgren-Lawrence grade II or III) will be recruited and randomized to receive Jade moxibustion treatment or a traditional moxibustion treatment in a 11 ratio. Jade moxibustion group The affected knee of the subjects will be covered with jade kneepad. Traditional moxibustion group Chosen the ST35, ST34, EX-LE4, SP10 and Ashi points at the affected knee. The subjects will receive treatment three times a week, altogether 12 times in 4 weeks. The main outcomes are WOMAC knee pain score, knee function score and SF-36 quality of life questionnaire changes at the 4th week. Secondary outcomes include WOMAC knee pain score and knee function score, overall clinical efficacy evaluation, medication, safety evaluation at the 2nd, 12th, and 24th week, and cytokines related to osteoarthritis in serum. METHODS We reviewed patients who underwent primary TKA at our academic center from January 2011 to December 2017. Of these, we included 68 patients (70 knees) that were performed TKA following knee arthroscopy. The groups were split by sex, age to within 6 years, and body mass index within 5 kg/m. A 12 matching algorithm was applied. Outcome measures included surgical time, intraoperative estimated blood loss, Oxford Knee Score, range of movement, complications, and revision rate. RESULTS This study had limited inclusion and exclusion criteria and a well-controlled intervention. CONCLUSION This clinical trial is expected to determine whether prior knee arthroscopy is associated with reduced functional outcomes or increased risks of revision and complications following TKA. The patient developed septic shock and died.From the early 18th century that "meningitis" outbreak was firstly recorded in Geneva, it is one of the alarming health problems worldwide. Different infectious risk factors may contribute to the progression of meningitis. Herpes simplex virus (HSV) and Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) are just some noticeable risk factors among many involved in the progression of this disease. In this study, 415 meningitis suspected patients were recruited with some symptoms, such as fever, headache, nausea or vomiting, seizure, rash, dizziness from four different hospitals of Iran and molecular examinations of samples were performed by using specific primers of HSV½ and VZV via real-time PCR. Out of 415 included patient 41 (9.8 %) were VZV and six (1.4 %) cases were HSV ½ positive. Fever was the most frequent symptom by 315 (76 %) of patients with median temperature of 38 °C in all included patients. The median WBS counts of CSF in VZV positive, HSV½ positive, and all included cases were 1567 × 106 /L, 1257 × 106 /L, and 766 × 106 /L (range 0-21200), respectively. The type strain has been deposited in a public collection.Endobronchial tuberculosis (TB) is an uncommon manifestation of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. We report a case of endobronchial TB polyps in a patient from India presenting with cough, loss of weight and night sweats. Computed tomography chest revealed enlarged mediastinal lymph nodes, endobronchial invasion, and nodular infiltrates in the right lower lobe. Flexible bronchoscopy revealed two endobronchial polyps at the carina and left main bronchus which were biopsied. Histopathology showed non-caseating granulomas. Both the biopsy and bronchial washings did not identify acid-fast bacilli on Ziehl-Neelsen stain and had negative TB complex DNA polymerase chain reaction. One month after bronchoscopy, M. tuberculosis was cultured from the bronchial washings. Following six months of TB treatment, there was full resolution of symptoms and significant radiological improvement. Methods We identified and analyzed reports of drug-induced interstitial lung disease between 2004 and 2018 from the Japanese Adverse Drug Event Report database. The reporting odds ratio and 95% confidence interval was used to detect the signal for each drug-induced interstitial lung disease incidence. We evaluated the time-to-onset profile of drug-induced interstitial lung disease and used the applied association rule mining technique to uncover undetected relationships, such as possible risk factors. In this report, we present its phenotypic description including MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry analysis and genome sequencing. Strain Marseille-Q0835T; 2.9768-Mb genome exhibited a 41.9 mol% G+C content and 2699 predicted genes. Considering phenotypic features and comparative genome studies, we propose the strain Marseille-Q0835T as the type strain of Enterococcus burkinafasonensis sp. nov., a new species within the family Enterococcaceae.Serratia fonticola is widely distributed in nature and a rare human pathogen. We report the first Case of biliary tract infection due to multidrug-resistant Serratia fonticola in a 78-year-old woman in Vietnam. Bile culture grew S. fonticola. Based on the antibiogram, S. fonticola is resistant to all antibiotic classes. The patient developed septic shock and died.From the early 18th century that "meningitis" outbreak was firstly recorded in Geneva, it is one of the alarming health problems worldwide. Different infectious risk factors may contribute to the progression of meningitis. Herpes simplex virus (HSV) and Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) are just some noticeable risk factors among many involved in the progression of this disease. In this study, 415 meningitis suspected patients were recruited with some symptoms, such as fever, headache, nausea or vomiting, seizure, rash, dizziness from four different hospitals of Iran and molecular examinations of samples were performed by using specific primers of HSV½ and VZV via real-time PCR. Out of 415 included patient 41 (9.8 %) were VZV and six (1.4 %) cases were HSV ½ positive. Fever was the most frequent symptom by 315 (76 %) of patients with median temperature of 38 °C in all included patients. The median WBS counts of CSF in VZV positive, HSV½ positive, and all included cases were 1567 × 106 /L, 1257 × 106 /L, and 766 × 106 /L (range 0-21200), respectively. In conclusion, as the rate of VZV infection was high among children patients and it was associated with the absence of vaccination program for chickenpox in Iran, we suggested that VZV is one of the plausible hallmarks in meningitis.Strain Marseille-P9525T is a Gram-positive, obligatory anaerobic and non-motile bacterium isolated from a human faecal micobiota. Its phenotypic pattern, including mass spectrometry peptide profile and genome sequence, support the proposal of a new species for which the name Enorma burkinafasonensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain has been deposited in a public collection.Endobronchial tuberculosis (TB) is an uncommon manifestation of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. We report a case of endobronchial TB polyps in a patient from India presenting with cough, loss of weight and night sweats. Computed tomography chest revealed enlarged mediastinal lymph nodes, endobronchial invasion, and nodular infiltrates in the right lower lobe. Flexible bronchoscopy revealed two endobronchial polyps at the carina and left main bronchus which were biopsied. Histopathology showed non-caseating granulomas. Both the biopsy and bronchial washings did not identify acid-fast bacilli on Ziehl-Neelsen stain and had negative TB complex DNA polymerase chain reaction. One month after bronchoscopy, M. tuberculosis was cultured from the bronchial washings. Following six months of TB treatment, there was full resolution of symptoms and significant radiological improvement. The aim of this retrospective study was to obtain new information on the time-to-onset profiles of drug-induced interstitial lung disease by consideration of other associated clinical factors using the Japanese Adverse Drug Event Report database. Methods We identified and analyzed reports of drug-induced interstitial lung disease between 2004 and 2018 from the Japanese Adverse Drug Event Report database. The reporting odds ratio and 95% confidence interval was used to detect the signal for each drug-induced interstitial lung disease incidence. We evaluated the time-to-onset profile of drug-induced interstitial lung disease and used the applied association rule mining technique to uncover undetected relationships, such as possible risk factors.
