In the present study, we found that miR-1178-3p was down-regulated, while TBL1XR1 was up-regulated in HCC cancer tissues by bioinformatics analysis and RT-PCR. We further confirmed the connection of miR-1178-3p and TBL1XR1 using dual-luciferase reporter (DLR) assay. Moreover, gain- and loss-of-function experiments demonstrated that overexpress miR-1178-3p inhibited cell proliferation, migration, and invasion in HCC cells and reduced the xenograft tumor growth and angiogenesis by regulating the TBL1XR1/PI3K/Akt axis. Our results indicated that the novel identified miR-1178-3p functions as a tumor suppressor in HCC through regulating TBL1XR1/PI3K/Akt pathway, and these findings could be a valid molecular target for liver cancer therapy.
Bilastine is a second-generation H
antihistamine indicated for the symptomatic treatment of allergic rhinoconjunctivitis and urticaria. Bilastine plasma concentrations were measured by HPLC-MS/MS. Adverse drug reactions were recorded for each subject during drug administration and follow-up visits.
Twelve healthy subjects (age 18-55years) were included in the study. After multiple dose administration, bilastine reached a mean (± SD) maximum blood concentrations of 2682.26 ± 1615.88pg/mL at a median time of 2.50h (range 1.25-4.00h). The half-life of bilastine in plasma was 7.88 ± 6.72h. Steady state AUC was 19,512.51 ± 9248.76h·pg/mL. Adverse events were mild and transient, consisting mainly of dysgeusia.

The impact of interacting effects between dopamine signals and the expression of GABA on the clinical phenotypes of schizophrenia has not been studied. Since these interactions could be closely involved in prefrontal cortex functions, patients with specific alleles of these relevant molecules (which lead to lower or vulnerable genetic functions) may develop treatment-refractory symptoms. We conducted a genetic association study focusing on COMT and GAD1 genes for a treatment-resistant schizophrenia (TRS) group (n=171), a non-TRS group (n=592), and healthy controls (HC n=447), and we examined allelic combinations specific to TRS. The results revealed that the percentage of subjects with Met allele of rs4680 on the COMT gene and C/C homozygote of rs3470934 on the GAD1 gene was significantly higher in the TRS group than the other two groups. There was no significant difference between the non-TRS group and HC groups. Considering the direction of functions of these single-nucleotide polymorphisms revealed by previous studies, we speculate that subjects with the Met/CC allelic combination could have a higher dopamine level and a lower expression of GABA in the prefrontal cortex. Our results suggest that an interaction between the dopaminergic signal and GABA signal intensities could differ between TRS patients and patients with other types of schizophrenia and healthy subjects.Parkinson's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder in which dopaminergic neurons located in the substantia nigra are gradually lost. Currently, combined treatment strategies are receiving increasing attention as potential therapeutic approaches for Parkinson's disease. This study aimed to evaluate the potential effects of exosomes released from SH-Sy5y cells and the liposomal form of L-dopa on Parkinson's rat models. Twenty-five male Wistar albino rats, in five groups, were included in this study. Parkinson's disease was induced through microinjection of 6-OHDA (2.5 mg/mL) into the right substantia nigra. The exosomes released from the SH-Sy5y cell line were isolated and administered (0.2 µg/5 µL) alone or in combination with the liposomal form of L-Dopa (80 mg/kg) to the defined model groups. Behavioral tests and molecular assays were conducted to evaluate the expression levels of tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) and dopamine receptor D2 (DRD2). The rats in the groups receiving the combined liposomal form of L-Dopa and exosome treatment and the liposomal form of L-Dopa alone showed a significant improvement in their movement ability (p less then 0.05). At molecular levels, these two groups also exhibited significant increases in Th (0.005 ± 0.001) and Drd2 (0.002 ± 0.0001) expression compared to controls (p less then 0.05). The observed alterations of Th and Drd2 expression were not statistically significant in exosome- and L-Dopa-treated groups. The current study shows that exosome-derived neuronal cells and liposomal form of L-Dopa can protect different cells against pathological complications such as Parkinson's disease.

Major histocompatibility complex (MHC)-bound peptides that originate from tumor-specific genetic alterations, known as neoantigens, are an important class of anticancer therapeutic targets. Accurately predicting peptide presentation by ****complexes is a key aspect of discovering therapeutically relevant neoantigens. Technological improvements in mass-spectrometry-based immunopeptidomics and advanced modeling techniques have vastly improved ****presentation prediction over the past two decades. However, improvement in the sensitivity and specificity of prediction algorithms is needed for clinical applications such as the development of personalized cancer vaccines, the discovery of biomarkers for response to checkpoint blockade, and the quantification of autoimmune risk in gene therapies. Toward this end, we generated allele-specific immunopeptidomics data using 25 monoallelic cell lines and created Systematic HLA Epitope Ranking Pan Algorithm (SHERPA), a pan-allelic ****peptide algorithm for predicting ****pwhen evaluated on independent monoallelic datasets and a 1.15-fold improvement when evaluating on tumor samples. With a high degree of accuracy, SHERPA has the potential to enable precision neoantigen discovery for future clinical applications.Noopept (NPT), a potent neuroprotective agent, suffers the problem of poor oral bioavailability (~10%) and thus demands exploration of ways of bioavailability improvement. Present work focuses on confronting this issue via development of NPT loaded ultradeformable liposomes (UDL) and its further incorporation in fast dissolving microneedle patch (MNP) for transdermal route. A combination of Phospholipon 90 G and Phospholipon 90H was used as bilayer forming lipids while sodium deoxycholate was used as edge activator to formulate NPT UDL by ethanol injection method. QbD approach was adapted to optimize NPT UDL considering vesicle size and entrapment efficiency as critical quality attributes (CQA). Fractional factorial design established amount of lipids, surfactant and NPT as critical material attributes and their optimum levels were statistically derived using combined D-optimal design. These optimized NPT UDL were fabricated as fast dissolving MNP and exhaustively evaluated to establish their safety, efficacy and stability. NPT UDL MNP possessed axial needle fracture force of 0.688 N which was sufficient enough to breach stratum corneum. Physical stability evaluation revealed that NPT UDL re-dispersion obtained from MNP matrix dissolution possessed identical vesicle shape and size while retaining > 99% NPT when compared to optimized NPT UDL. In vitro viability of HaCaT cells after exposure to NPT UDL MNP matrix was found to be 89.74% supporting the formulation as safe for transdermal application. NPT UDL MNP showed a 6.5-fold increase in steady state flux across full thickness pig ear skin as compared to NPT suspension. A 3-fold increase in relative bioavailability with similar pharmacological response as compared to oral NPT suspension was also observed during PK-PD studies in Sprague Dawley rats. Results were found fairly encouraging and created a scope of reducing both dose and dosing frequency to eventually improve the associated patient compliance.

Emerging evidence has shown that long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) plays important roles in the development of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). However, some new lncRNAs in patients with PAH are still lacking research. Herein, we examined the expression and role of lncRNA (pulmonary arterial hypertension related factor, PAHRF) in PAH.
LncRNA PAHRF expression and localization were analyzed by realtime PCR and fluorescence in situ hybridization. Proliferation and apoptosis were detected by MTT, CCK-8, EDU staining, JC-1 assay, flow cytometry and western blotting. Luciferase activity assay was used to identify PAHRF/ miR-23a-3p/serine/threonine kinase 4 (STK4/MST1) interaction.
LncRNA PAHRF was down-regulated in both the PAs of PAH patients and hypoxic human pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells (PASMCs). The overexpression of PAHRF inhibited the proliferation and promoted the apoptosis of PASMCs. Similarly, we also found PAHRF overexpression decreased the proliferation under hypoxia condition. Knockdown of PAHRF exerted the opposite effects.

The text presents and discusses the main aspects related to the current dynamics of the vaccine industry in the world and in Brazil, focusing on the demand created by the pandemic of COVID-19. At the global level, it briefly exposes the place currently occupied by Brazil within the scope of the BRICS and sets out and analyzes the options - identities and differences - of industrial policy in Brazil, China and India in the field of vaccines. Next, it analyzes the displacement of the vaccine industry, from a situation of exclusive production of immunizers to a majority control by the large pharmaceutical industry. The main focus of the articles were theoretical efforts to conceptualize what are sustainable diets; analysis of different types of diets; factors involved in consumers' choices/behaviors; size of food production; of health; of the economy; culture and society; policies and governance; and discussion on the methodologies used to measure and analyze the different aspects of sustainable diets. A systematic review of articles published between 2008 and 2018 was conducted using the following databases PubMed/Medline, SciELO, Web of Science, Scopus, Lilacs, and BVS Adolec Brasil. The following descriptors and keywords were used in English and Portuguese adolescent, sexual maturation, survey, questionnaire, and physical activity. The literature search retrieved 806 articles. Twelve articles were included after applying the selection criteria. Level of physical activity was highest in the initial stage of sexual maturation. Levels of physical activity appear to decrease with advancing sexual maturation status. There is no consensus about the association between sexual maturation and physical activity levels among adolescents within the literature reviewed by this study. The constituent elements of the diabetic foot's social representation "cure" and "really bad", revealing that living with a diabetic foot is challenging, but there is hope for a cure, which is a driving force in the daily search for care. The "prevention" element emerged in the representational field, denoting a more critical view and a capacity to transform the identified core elements. We found that the representational structure is based on subjective, valuating, and attitudinal contents. This knowledge can contribute to the design of interventions in the provision of care and diabetic foot screening in PHC services.

There is also significant association between poly pharmacy and frailty (OR 2.42, 95% CI 1.50-3.91). Conclusion Approximately one in five Indonesian community-dwelling elderly was frail. Frailty is associated with functional dependence, being at risk for malnutrition or being malnourished, depression, history of fall, history of hospitalization, and poly pharmacy. There may be bidirectional relationships between the risk factors and frailty. The development of long-term care in Indonesia should be considered, without forcing the elderly who need it.Background Women with previous pre-eclampsia are at an increased risk of developing recurrent pre-eclampsia. Intervention with low dose aspirin had been recommended to reduce the incidence of recurrent pre-eclampsia. However, the association between interventions and maternal and neonatal outcomes in subsequent pregnancies in women with previous pre-eclampsia has not been fully studied. Methods In this prospective study, a total of 41 patients with previous pre-eclampsia received low dose aspirin and active management (including psychological and physiological intervention), between 10 to 28 weeks until 32 to 34 weeks in our regional referral hospital. The recurrence of pre-eclampsia, and maternal and neonatal outcomes in this pregnancy were analyzed and compared to our previous study which reported a 60% recurrence of pre-eclampsia in our regional referral hospital. Results Thirteen women with previous pre-eclampsia developed recurrent pre-eclampsia. The time of onset or severity of pre-eclampsia in the previous pregnancy was not associated with the incidence of recurrent pre-eclampsia. The time of onset of previous pre-eclampsia was also not associated with the time of onset in subsequent pre-eclampsia. However, the number of severe recurrent pre-eclampsia was significantly reduced, compared to their first pregnancies. The number of SGA and stillbirth/neonatal death was also significantly reduced in recurrent pre-eclampsia that was actively managed, compared to their first pregnancies. Conclusion Despite the small sample size included in this study, our study demonstrates that active obstetric management reduces the incidence of recurrent pre-eclampsia, compared to our previous study, and reduces the severity of recurrent pre-eclampsia. It also improves neonatal outcomes in recurrent pre-eclampsia. However, because of no controls in this study, our findings need to confirmed by a case-control or randomized clinical trial study.Purpose To construct quantifiable models of imaging features by machine learning describing early changes of optic disc and peripapillary region, and to explore their performance as early indicators for choroidal thickness (ChT) in young myopic patients. Methods Eight hundred and ninety six subjects were enrolled. Imaging features were extracted from fundus photographs. Macular ChT (mChT) and peripapillary ChT (pChT) were measured on swept-source optical coherence tomography scans. All participants were divided randomly into training (70%) and test (30%) sets. Imaging features correlated with ChT were selected by LASSO regression and combined into new indicators of optic disc (IODs) for mChT (IOD_mChT) and for pChT (IOD_pChT) by multivariate regression models in the training set. The performance of IODs was evaluated in the test set. Results A significant correlation between IOD_mChT and mChT (r = 0.650, R 2 = 0.423, P less then 0.001) was found in the test set. IOD_mChT was negatively associated with axialtly correlated with choroidal thickness. Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) has some distinctive features. The aim of the study was to compare clinical and breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of TNBC with non-triple-negative breast cancer (nTNBC) in molecular subtypes such as ADC (apparent diffusion coefficient) values, T2-weighted (T2W) image intensity, shape, margin, lymph node involvement, grade, multifocality, multicentricity, bilaterality, and enhancement pattern differences between tumour subtypes.
A total of 141 patients who underwent breast biopsy at our institution between January 2010 and June 2018 were included in this study. Patients were divided into molecular subtypes according to hormone receptor status, and Ki-67 index. Tumour grade, enhancement patterns, age, lymph node involvement, ADC values, breast imaging reporting and data system (BI-RADS) category, bilaterality, multifocality, multicentricity, margin, shape, and T2W image intensity were evaluated for these subtypes.
ADC values were higher in triple-negative tumours than in luminal A and luminal B tumours (
= 0.010 and
= 0.002, respectively). Circumscribed margin, type 2 enhancement curve, and rim enhancement were significantly higher in triple-negative tumours (

This study has focused on investigating the relationship between the exponential apparent diffusion coefficient (exp-ADC), selective apparent diffusion coefficient (sel-ADC) values, the ADC ratio (ADCr), and prostate cancer aggressiveness with transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy in patients with prostate cancer.
All patients underwent a multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) including tri-planar T2-weighted (T2W), dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE), diffusion-weighted sequences using a 3.0-Tesla MR scanner (Skyra, Siemens Medical Systems, Germany) with a dedicated 18-channel body coil and a spine coil underneath the pelvis, with the patient in the supine position. Exp-ADC, sel-ADC, and ADCr of defined lesions were evaluated using region-of-interest-based measurements. Exp-ADC, sel-ADC, and ADCr were correlated with the Gleason score obtained through transrectal ultrasound-guided biopsy.
Patients were divided into 2 groups. Group I is Gleason score ≥ 3 + 4, group II is Gleason score = arcinoma. Adding exp-ADC and sel-ADC values to ADCr can be used to increase the diagnostic accuracy of DWI.
A variety of surgical procedures have been introduced to treat patients with thoracic myelopathy (TM) caused by ossification of the ligamentum flavum (OLF). However, they are accompanied by significant trauma and risk, and their surgical outcomes are not always satisfactory.
To describe a bilateral translaminar osseous-channel assisted posterior percutaneous full-endoscopic ligamentectomy decompression (p-PELD) technique as a novel minimally invasive procedure for treating patients with TM due to OLF.
A 51-year-old female patient with persistent thoracolumbar **** pain and progressive numbness in the bilateral lower extremities for 2 years underwent percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) for T11 osteoporotic compression fractures (OCF) in a regional hospital one week prior to hospitalization. TM caused by canal stenosis and dorsal spinal cord compression at T10/11 secondary to OLF and an OCF at T11 were diagnosed based on clinical presentations and radiologic examinations. After bilateral p-PELD for TM was performed at T10/11, the result was confirmed based on postoperative radiographic and clinical results.
The bilateral OLF was completely removed by the p-PELD technique. No complications were encountered, and her symptoms were sufficiently improved after surgery. Balloon sinus dilation is becoming an increasingly common procedure, finding a niche as an invaluable tool in endoscopic sinus surgery.
To assess the effectiveness of balloon sinus dilation (BSD) in 1-day surgery in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis without polyps based on our own experience.
The study group consisted of 9 patients. The ****-Mackay scale for computed tomography of the paranasal sinuses was assessed prior to surgery. Endoscopy was performed on the basis of the ****-Kennedy scale and patients were asked to perform the SNOT-22 survey. Two patients underwent balloon sinuplasty under general and seven under local anaesthesia.
Twelve maxillary and eight frontal sinuses were widened (four attempts were unsuccessful). The SNOT-22 survey was assessed the day after surgery (average of 8 points) and a month after surgery (average of 15.5 points).

To evaluate the utility of high-resolution, 3-D diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) in the detection of breast cancer and to compare the sensitivity, specificity, and area under the curves of DWI and dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI). Prospective IEC approved study included 131 breast lesions detected on mammography and breast ultrasound. Cases underwent MRI on a 3 Tesla scanner using a dedicated breast coil. A 51-year-old female patient with persistent thoracolumbar back pain and progressive numbness in the bilateral lower extremities for 2 years underwent percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) for T11 osteoporotic compression fractures (OCF) in a regional hospital one week prior to hospitalization. TM caused by canal stenosis and dorsal spinal cord compression at T10/11 secondary to OLF and an OCF at T11 were diagnosed based on clinical presentations and radiologic examinations. After bilateral p-PELD for TM was performed at T10/11, the result was confirmed based on postoperative radiographic and clinical results. To assess the effectiveness of balloon sinus dilation (BSD) in 1-day surgery in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis without polyps based on our own experience. The study group consisted of 9 patients. The Lund-Mackay scale for computed tomography of the paranasal sinuses was assessed prior to surgery. Endoscopy was performed on the basis of the Lund-Kennedy scale and patients were asked to perform the SNOT-22 survey. The efficacy and safety of gemcitabine and nab-paclitaxel (GnP) among elderly patients with advanced pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) remains poorly understood. We aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of GnP in this setting.
We retrospectively included all consecutive patients aged ≥65 years with histologically proven PDAC who received at least one cycle of GnP (January 2014 to May 2018) in four academic centers. The primary endpoints were toxicity and overall survival (OS). Secondary endpoints were progression-free survival (PFS) and objective response rate. We compared patients aged≥or <75 years.
The study included 127 patients; among them 42 (33.1%) were aged≥75 years. Fifty-seven and seventy patients received GnP as the first-line and the second-line treatment or beyond, respectively. Sixty-seven patients had at least one grade 3/4 adverse event, the most frequent being neutropenia and peripheral neuropathy. No deaths were related to toxicity. OS (median, 8.0 months; 95% confidence interval (CI), 5.8-10.2) and PFS (median, 5.5 months; 95% CI, 4.8-6.2) were similar for patients aged <75 or ≥75 years in the whole cohort and among patients receiving GnP as the first-line treatment. Cephalic PDAC, liver metastases, hypoalbuminemia, and GnP received beyond the first-line were associated with a significantly shorter OS on the multivariate analysis.
GnP is well tolerated and effective in elderly patients with advanced PDAC, even patients aged ≥75 years. The data from daily clinical practice are consistent with the results reported with first-line treatment and highlight the relevance of GnP administration in elderly patients.

The aim of this systematic review is to evaluate the current evidence in the context of clinical prediction model for post-hepatectomy liver failure (PHLF).
A systematic search of the English literature for a period from December 2005 to September 2020 was conducted. Primary outcome was defined using the three common PHLF criteria (50-50 criteria, peak bilirubin>7mg/dl criteria, and ≥ grade B PHLF criteria by the International Study Group of Liver Surgery). Studies that reported the value of area under receiver operative characteristic curve (AUC) for the occurrence of PHLF were included.
Twenty eight of 1327 screened articles were eligible for inclusion. Eighteen studies developed the prediction models. The median AUC was found to be 0.79 (0.65-0.933). The parameters related to the amount of future liver remnant volume were most commonly identified as significant predictors for PHLF in statistical analysis (24 studies) and were most frequently incorporated in the prediction models (18 studies). The parameters associated with portal hypertension were significant for predicting PHLF in 16 studies and were adopted in the prediction models in 14 studies.

Failure to rescue (FTR) is defined as postoperative complications leading to mortality. This nationwide study aimed to assess factors associated with FTR and hospital variation in FTR after liver surgery.
All patients who underwent liver resection between 2014 and 2017 in the Netherlands were included. FTR was defined as in-hospital or 30-day mortality after complications Dindo grade ≥3a. Variables associated with FTR and nationwide hospital variation were assessed using multivariable logistic regression.
Of 4961 patients included, 3707 (74.4%) underwent liver resection for colorectal liver metastases, 379 (7.6%) for other metastases, 526 (10.6%) for hepatocellular carcinoma and 349 (7.0%) for biliary cancer. Thirty-day major morbidity was 11.5%. Overall mortality was 2.3%. FTR was 19.1%. Age 65-80 (aOR 2.86, CI1.01-12.0, p=0.049), ASA 3+ (aOR2.59, CI 1.66-4.02, p<0.001), liver cirrhosis (aOR4.15, CI1.81-9.22, p<0.001), biliary cancer (aOR3.47, CI 1.73-6.96, p<0.001), and major resection (aOR6.46, CI 3.91-10.9, p<0.001) were associated with FTR. Postoperative liver failure (aOR 26.9, CI 14.6-51.2, p<0.001), cardiac (aOR 2.62, CI 1.27-5.29, p=0.008) and thromboembolic complications (aOR 2.49, CI 1.16-5.22, p=0.017) were associated with FTR. After case-mix correction, no hospital variation in FTR was observed.

We assessed the diagnostic performances of homeostasis model assessment indices (HOMA) of β-cell function (HOMA-%β) and of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) for cystic fibrosis related diabetes (CFRD) screening.
Data were collected from a prospective cohort of 228 patients with CF (117 adults and 111 children). Fasting insulin and glucose levels were measured to calculate HOMA-%β and HOMA-IR. HOMA-%β <100 indicated insulin secretion deficiency and HOMA-IR >1 insulin resistance. Both were used to calculate sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values (PPV and NPV). Purinergic signaling plays a pivotal role in physiological processes and pathological conditions. Over the past decades, conventional pharmacological, biochemical, and molecular biology techniques have been utilized to investigate purinergic signaling cascades. However, none of them is capable of spatially and temporally manipulating purinergic signaling cascades. Currently, optical approaches, including optopharmacology and optogenetic, enable controlling purinergic signaling with low invasiveness and high spatiotemporal precision. In this mini-review, we discuss optical approaches for controlling purinergic signaling and their applications in basic and translational science.The behavioral immune system is an evolved adaptation comprised of automatic behavioral, cognitive, and affective reactions that has allowed humans throughout evolutionary history to avoid situations that risk infection by pathogens (e.g., physical proximity to sick people). Although behavioral immune system activation may be functional by helping people avoid such situations, experiencing these automatic reactions during sexual interactions may undermine people's evaluations of those interactions because sex requires close physical contact. We examined whether two sources of behavioral immune system activation (daily concern over contracting COVID-19 and individual differences in infection concern) undermined satisfaction with sex among 318 partnered adults in the U.S. during the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants reported individual differences in perceived infectability and then, every night for two weeks, reported their (a) daily concern about contracting COVID-19, (b) daily stress, (c) whether they had sex with their partner, and (d) their satisfaction with sex when it occurred. People's perceived infectability moderated the association between their daily concern about contracting COVID-19 and the extent to which they enjoyed sex when it occurred, such that people higher, but not lower, in perceived infectability enjoyed sex less on days that they were more worried about contracting COVID-19 than usual. This effect was not moderated by biological sex and remained significant when controlling for biological sex, age, relationship length, and frequency of sex. Results highlight the importance of the behavioral immune system to sexual functioning and suggest a novel avenue through which the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted relationships.Although the incorporation of bioactive glasses into glass ionomer cements (GICs) has led to promising results, using a bioactive glass as the only solid component of GICs has never been investigated. In this study, we developed an Al-free GIC with standard compressive strength using various combinations of 45S5 Bioglass® and its glass-ceramic as the solid component. The glass-ceramic particles with 74% crystallinity were used for this purpose as they can best act as both remineralizing and reinforcing agents. Strengthening mechanisms including crack deflection and crack-tip shielding were activated for the GICs containing 50-50 wt% bioglass and bioglass-ceramic as the optimum ratio. The progression of the GIC setting reaction at its early stages was also monitored and verified. We also discussed that our bimodal particle size distribution containing both micron- and nanosized particles may enhance the packing density and integrity of the structure of the cements after setting. This exploratory study investigated hair fall among Kannada-speaking Hindu women in the South Indian city of Mysuru, Karnataka. It used a series of focus group discussions to explore how women talk about the causes and consequences of hair fall, and how women cope with hair-related distress. Participants articulated clear, shared ideas about why hair falls and how it can be managed. They connected hair fall to broader stressors in their lives both directly and symbolically. Hair fall, therefore, appears to function idiomatically in this context, both as an idiom of distress in its own right, and as a symptom of other idioms and forms of distress. Additional research is needed to establish the importance of hair fall relative to other distress constructs, and to more directly assess its potential value in research and intervention.
Pest control strategies almost entirely rely on chemical insecticides, which cause environmental problems such as biosphere deterioration and emergence of resistant pests. Bio-pesticide is an alternative approach, which uses organisms such as entomopathogenic fungi, Metarhizium anisopliae, to control pests. Screening such potential organism at a molecular level and understanding their gene regulation mechanism is an important approach to reduce emergence of pesticide resistance and worsening of the biosphere. Understanding promoter regions which play a pivotal role in gene regulation is crucial. In particular, identification of the promoter regions in M. anisopliae Strain ME1 remains poorly understood. To our knowledge, the mitogenome trn gene clusters of M. anisopliae Strain ME1 were not characterized. Purinergic signaling plays a pivotal role in physiological processes and pathological conditions. Over the past decades, conventional pharmacological, biochemical, and molecular biology techniques have been utilized to investigate purinergic signaling cascades. However, none of them is capable of spatially and temporally manipulating purinergic signaling cascades. Currently, optical approaches, including optopharmacology and optogenetic, enable controlling purinergic signaling with low invasiveness and high spatiotemporal precision. In this mini-review, we discuss optical approaches for controlling purinergic signaling and their applications in basic and translational science.The behavioral immune system is an evolved adaptation comprised of automatic behavioral, cognitive, and affective reactions that has allowed humans throughout evolutionary history to avoid situations that risk infection by pathogens (e.g., physical proximity to sick people). Although behavioral immune system activation may be functional by helping people avoid such situations, experiencing these automatic reactions during sexual interactions may undermine people's evaluations of those interactions because sex requires close physical contact. We examined whether two sources of behavioral immune system activation (daily concern over contracting COVID-19 and individual differences in infection concern) undermined satisfaction with sex among 318 partnered adults in the U.S. during the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants reported individual differences in perceived infectability and then, every night for two weeks, reported their (a) daily concern about contracting COVID-19, (b) daily stress, (c) whether they had sex with their partner, and (d) their satisfaction with sex when it occurred. People's perceived infectability moderated the association between their daily concern about contracting COVID-19 and the extent to which they enjoyed sex when it occurred, such that people higher, but not lower, in perceived infectability enjoyed sex less on days that they were more worried about contracting COVID-19 than usual. This effect was not moderated by biological sex and remained significant when controlling for biological sex, age, relationship length, and frequency of sex. Results highlight the importance of the behavioral immune system to sexual functioning and suggest a novel avenue through which the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted relationships.Although the incorporation of bioactive glasses into glass ionomer cements (GICs) has led to promising results, using a bioactive glass as the only solid component of GICs has never been investigated. In this study, we developed an Al-free GIC with standard compressive strength using various combinations of 45S5 Bioglass® and its glass-ceramic as the solid component. The glass-ceramic particles with 74% crystallinity were used for this purpose as they can best act as both remineralizing and reinforcing agents. Strengthening mechanisms including crack deflection and crack-tip shielding were activated for the GICs containing 50-50 wt% bioglass and bioglass-ceramic as the optimum ratio. The progression of the GIC setting reaction at its early stages was also monitored and verified. We also discussed that our bimodal particle size distribution containing both micron- and nanosized particles may enhance the packing density and integrity of the structure of the cements after setting. Donkey domestication has been essential to human culture and development and has played an important role in economic and social life in human history. China is one of the largest donkey breeders worldwide; donkey farming for meat, milk and hide production is becoming an important industry in rural China as it provides income to the rural livelihoods of many people. Currently, the donkey industry in China is small and relatively young, but it is growing fast. The industry is not adequately exploited economically, which means that it requires the diminution of its role in the traditional activities of rural households and a reorientation towards a more profitable industry. Given the growing importance of the donkey industry in rural China, this paper aims to outline the current situations of the donkey industry in China in terms of animal stock, breeds and distribution, donkey products, suggestions and future challenges to the development of the donkey industry.This study aimed to describe the testicular growth curve in Mangalarga Marchador stallions fitting nonlinear models to data of total scrotal width (TSW) and testicular volume (TV). A cross-sectional study was conducted with 120 stallions, aging from 1.75 to 21.93 years. The parameters of nonlinear models (Brody, Gompertz, Hill, Logistic I and II, Meloun I and II, Michaelis-Menten, Mitscherlich, and von-Bertalanffy) were estimated by Gauss-Newton iterative process. Goodness of fit was evaluated by the corrected Akaike (AICc) and Bayesian (BIC) information criteria, adjusted R2, error sum of square, mean absolute deviation and average prediction error. Based on the goodness of fit, the Logistic I model fitted better for TSW while Logistic II fitted better for TV growth curve. The inflection point (IP) of TSW growth was estimated in 5.23 cm at 0.76 years; the IP of TV growth was estimated in 139.36 cm3 at 2.57 years. The TV growth curve reached a plateau later than TSW growth curve, mainly because testicular height maintains growth for a longer period. In addition, there were moderate and positive correlations between whiter height and TSW and TV (r = 0.51 and r = 0.53, respectively). Findings suggest that TV is more associated with sexual maturity than sexual precocity. In addition, the moderate and positive correlations between whiter height and TSW and TV indicate that testicular traits can be included in selection programs of Mangalarga Marchador stallions with the same relevance as the morphometric traits.Ocular neoplasms represent 10% of all equine neoplasms and ocular squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common one. This report describes the clinical presentation, laboratory, ultrasonography, postmortem, histopathology and immunohistochemistry findings of a mixed ocular neoplasm in a 10-year-old draft mare. The mare had a one-year history of left ocular mass. Complete destruction of the left eye with loss of vision was observed. A large ulcerated mass oozing blood replaced the left eye. Left parotid lymph node was swollen and had a sinus tract discharging pus. Ultrasonography revealed absence of all intraocular structures, several lobular echogenic tissues and several hyperechoic areas of ossification with acoustic shadowing. To understand histomorphological changes in the process of joint-related diseases such as OA, detailed information about histomorphometric parameters of unaffected synovial villi is necessary. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the mean width of the intimal synovial lining and its cellularity as well as the vascularization of the subintimal layer in juvenile and adult horses not affected by a joint-related disease. One hundred synovial samples from both metacarpophalangeal joints from 25 horses (one day to 24 years old) were collected to evaluate the following parameters on digitalized hematoxylin-eosin stained samples Width of intimal synovial lining measured by the distance from the inner joint surface to the subintimal layer; density of the cells making up the intimal synovial lining by counting cell nuclei; vascularization of the subintimal layer measured by the number and size of vessels in relation to the subintimal area. The median width of the intimal lining did not differ among juvenile (22.34 µm) and adult (23.34 µm) horses. The cellularity of the intimal lining was significantly lower in juvenile (one cell/143.8 µm2) than in adult (one cell /188.7µm2), (P less then .001) horses as well as the density of blood vessels per mm2 within the subintimal layer (juveniles 1/mm2 vs. adults 0.05/mm2), (P less then .001). This study provides morphometric data regarding synovial intimal width, intimal cellularity, and vascularization of equine synovial villi of unaffected horses. For future studies, age-related characteristics should be taken into consideration when synovial tissue samples are used for in-vivo and in-vitro studies.

In this study, the full-length of AeCCL5 and AecCCL7 were cloned into the expression vector pCDFDuet-1. The proteins of AeCCL5 and AeCCL7 with His-tag were expressed in Escherichia coli. The proteins of AeCCL5 and AeCCL7 were purified by nickel column. In vitro enzymatic reactions proved that both AeCCL5 and AeCCL7 can participate in the upstream phenylpropane pathway of shikonin biosynthesisby catalyzing 4-coumaric acid to produce 4-coumarin-CoA, and then to synthesis p-hydroxybenzoic acid, which is an important precursor of shikonin biosynthesis in A. euchroma.Resina Draconis, a rare and precious traditional medicine in China, is known as the "holy medicine for promoting blood circulation". According to the national drug standard, it's derived from the resin extracted from the wood of Dracaena cochinchinensis, a Liliaceae plant. In addition, a variety of Dracaena species all over the world can form red resins, and there is currently no molecular identification method that can efficiently identify the origin of Dracaena medicinal materials. In this study, seven species of Dracaena distributed in China were selected as the research objects. Four commonly used DNA barcodes(ITS2, matK, rbcL and psbA-trnH), and four highly variable regions(trnP-psaJ, psbK-psbI, trnT-trnL, clpP) in chloroplast genome were used to evaluate the identification efficiency of Dracaena species. The results showed that clpP sequence fragment could accurately identify seven species of Dracaena plants. However, due to the long sequence of clpP fragment, there were potential problems in the practical application process. We found that the combined fragment "psbK-psbI+ trnP-psaJ" can also be used for accurate molecular identification of the Resina Draconis origin plants and relative species of Dracaena, which were both relatively short sequences in the combined fragment, showing high success rates of amplification and sequencing. Therefore, the "psbK-psbI+ trnP-psaJ" combined fragment can be used as the DNA barcode fragments for molecular identification of Resina Dracon's origin plants and relative species of Dracaena. The physiological indicators(osmotic substances, antioxidant enzymes, etc.) and chemical components of seedlings under different drought levels and the correlation between the two were studied. The results showed that the chlorophyll content and relative water content decreased gradually with the increase of PGE 6000(0, 5%, 10%, 15%) concentration and time(3, 5, 7 d), while the soluble protein content, soluble sugar content and catalase(CAT) activity increased, but the rising rate slowed down with the time. The activities of peroxidase(POD), superoxide dismutase(***), malondialdehyde(MDA) and proline content increased at first and then decreased. The results showed that the chlorophyll content and relative water content decreased gradually with the increase of PGE 6000(0, 5%, 10%, 15%) concentration and time(3, 5, 7 d), while the soluble protein content, soluble sugar content and catalase(CAT) activity increased, but the rising rate slowed down with the time. The activities of peroxidase(POD), superoxide dismutase(SOD), malondialdehyde(MDA) and proline content increased at first and then decreased. The content of coumarin, cinnamaldehyde, cinnamic acid and dimethoxycinnamaldehyde decreased, while the content of cinnamyl alcohol continued to increase.Under drought stress, the fluorescence signals of reactive oxygen species and no contents in roots of C. cassia seedlings were significantly stronger than those of the control.Further correlation analysis showed that coumarin content, di-methoxycinnamaldehyde content and osmoregulation substance content were significantly negatively correlated(P<0.05), cinnamic acid content was significantly negatively correlated with POD and SOD activities(P<0.01).It was found that C. cassia seedlings showed a certain degree of drought tolerance under short-term or mild drought stress, but if the drought exceeded a certain degree, the physiological metabolism of the seedlings would be unbalanced.Molecular pharmacognosy is a science of classification and identification, cultivation and protection, and production of active ingredients of graduated drugs at the molecular level. The proposal of molecular pharmacognosy allows the research of crude drugs to advance from the microscopic level to the genetic level. Pueraria lobata root, as a medicinal and edible plant, has high application value and economic value. There are many varieties that are easy to cause confusion, and it is not easy to distinguish and identify according to traditional identification methods. Moreover, the research of P. lobate root at the genetic level is still relatively shallow. the study received extensive attention of scholars.
