Analysis of the differences (Mann-Whitney U test) and Student's t-test were also applied to establish statistical differences. (3) Results In the test involving handgrip measurement, the subjects from Poland (both those practicing judo and jujutsu) gained better results compared to their German counterparts. In the test involving grasping of Ditrich rod, a positive correlation was demonstrated in the group of German judokas between the age and reaction time of the subjects (rxy = 0.66, p less then 0.05), as well as in the group of jujutsu subjects between body weight and the reaction time (rxy = 0.49, p less then 0.05). A significant and strong correlation between handgrip and weight was also established for the group of German judokas (rxy = 0.75, p less then 0.05). In Polish competitors, the correlations were only established between the age and handgrip measurements (rxy = 0.49, p less then 0.05).   • Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is among the major global causes for vision loss. With the rise in diabetes prevalence, an increase in DR incidence is expected. Current understanding of both the molecular etiology and pathways involved in the initiation and progression of DR is limited. Via RNA-Sequencing, we analyzed mRNA and miRNA expression profiles of 80 human post-mortem retinal samples from 43 patients diagnosed with various stages of DR. We found differentially expressed transcripts to be predominantly associated with late stage DR and pathways such as hippo and gap junction signaling. A multivariate regression model identified transcripts with progressive changes throughout disease stages, which in turn displayed significant overlap with sphingolipid and cGMP-PKG signaling. Combined analysis of miRNA and mRNA expression further uncovered disease-relevant miRNA/mRNA associations as potential mechanisms of post-transcriptional regulation. Finally, integrating human retinal single cell RNA-Sequencing data revealed a continuous loss of retinal ganglion cells, and Müller cell mediated changes in histidine and β-alanine signaling. While previously considered primarily a vascular disease, attention in DR has shifted to additional mechanisms and cell-types. Our findings offer an unprecedented and unbiased insight into molecular pathways and cell-specific changes in the development of DR, and provide potential avenues for future therapeutic intervention.Since iron is essential for neurotransmitter synthesis, decreased iron stores might lead to reduced production of biogenic amines which phenomenon was shown in Fibromyalgia (FM) patients. The aims are to investigate the association of iron deficiency anemia (IDA) and FM and to find the effects of different interventions. We conducted a study using the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database. The IDA cohort consisted of 13,381 patients with newly diagnosed IDA between 2000 and 2008. Each patient with IDA was frequency-matched with one people without IDA, by sex, age and index year. The Cox proportional hazards regression analysis was conducted to estimate the association between IDA and FM risk. The event was the occurrence of FM. The overall incidence density rate of FM in the IDA cohort was higher than in the non-IDA cohort with a multivariable Cox proportional hazards model measured adjusted hazard ratio [HR], 1.19; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.13-1.25). When using non-IDA group as reference, we compared with different therapies for IDA. The adjusted HRs of FM were 1.38 (95% CI = 1.30-1.47), 1.10 (95% CI = 1.03-1.16), 1.18 (95% CI = 0.98-1.43) and 0.73 (95% CI = 0.58-0.90) for IDA patient without therapy, iron supplement alone, blood transfusion alone and both iron supplement and blood transfusion respectively. Our results suggest IDA is associated with an increased risk of FM. Dark resonance can modulate not only the peak number of VRS, but also the OB thresholds. It is found that dark state can determine the asymmetric OB distribution of nested type and symmetric OB distribution of cascade type. Besides that, the distinctive OB thresholds in two kinds of interaction also be studied. The DMAEB, in particular, can reduce the corrosion rate of N80 C-steel by approximately 97%. DMAEB molecules work as a mixed-type corrosion inhibitor, according to electrochemical results. The DMAEB demonstrated a high inhibition effect at high temperatures, as well as high activation energy against the corrosion process.   • Seven studies concerning the effects of alternate day fasting (ADF) on weight loss and diabetic parameters were analyzed. All of them have shown the effects of ADF on weight loss and slight improvement in diabetic parameters. For time-restricted feeding (TRF), a significant improvement in the HOMA-IR index was observed in 2 studies. One study saw an increase in fasting glucose. An analysis of 2 studies using a complete alternate day fasting (CADF) was performed. One study showed decrease in fasting glucose and insulin, and in one a decrease in glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) was observed.

    This study represents a first attempt to explore the typology of female adults from a large non-clinical sample based on healthy orthorexia (HO) and pathological orthorexia (orthorexia nervosa, ON).

    1245 female adults (Mage = 38.04, SD = 9.73) completed a set of questionnaires assessing orthorexic behaviors, intuitive eating, self-esteem, perceived social support as well as eating disorders, depressive and anxiety symptoms.

    Cluster analysis based on HO and ON scores yielded 4 distinct groups "Healthy orthorexia cluster" (HO), "Orthorexia Nervosa cluster" (ON), "Low Orthorexia cluster" (**) and "In-between Orthorexia cluster" (IBO). The HO and ON clusters represented individuals with, respectively, healthy and pathological interest in healthy diet. The ** cluster represented those with no particular interest in healthy eating and the IBO cluster showed that ON and HO behaviors can be associated in some individuals. Among all clusters, the ON cluster displayed highest levels of ED, anxiety and depressive symptoms. Inversely, the HO cluster displayed highest levels of intuitive eating, self-esteem and perceived social support.

    Altogether, findings from this study support the bidimensional structure of orthorexic eating behavior and further suggest that ON and HO behaviors can be associated in some individuals. Our findings further provide evidence for the assumption that ON and HO could be seen, respectively, as maladaptive and protective eating behaviors.

    Weight bias internalization (WBI) is associated with negative health consequences such as eating disorders and psychosocial problems in children. To date, it is unknown to what extent WBI considerably raises the risk of negative outcomes.

    Analyses are based on cross-sectional data of 1,061 children (9-13years, M = 11, SD = 0.9; 52.1% female) who filled in the WBI scale (WBIS-C). First, ROC analyses were run to identify critical cut-off values of WBI (WBIS-C score) that identify those who are at higher risk for psychosocial problems or eating disorder symptoms (as reported by parents). Second, it was examined whether WBI is more sensitive than the relative weight status in that respect. Third, to confirm that the cut-off value is also accompanied by higher psychological strain, high- and low-risk groups were compared in terms of their self-reported depressive symptoms, anxious symptoms, body dissatisfaction, and self-esteem.

    WBIS-C scores ≥ 1.55 were associated with a higher risk of disturbed eating behavior; for psychosocial problems, no cut-off score reached adequate sensitivity and specificity. Compared to relative weight status, WBI was better suited to detect disturbed eating behavior. Children with a WBIS-C score ≥ 1.55 also reported higher scores for both depressive and anxious symptoms, higher body dissatisfaction, and lower self-esteem.

    The WBIS-C is suitable for identifying risk groups, and even low levels of WBI are accompanied by adverse mental health. Therefore, WBI is, beyond weight status, an important risk factor that should be considered in prevention and intervention.

The use of these therapies has rapidly expanded in the past two decades. Immune checkpoint inhibitors represent one drug class within immunotherapy with its first agent FDA-approved in 2011. Immune checkpoint inhibitors act by disrupting inhibitory signals from neoplastic cells to immune effector cells, allowing activated T-cells to target these neoplastic cells. Unique adverse effects associated with immune checkpoint inhibitors are termed immune-related adverse effects (irAEs) and are usually immunostimulatory in nature. Almost all organ systems may be affected by irAEs including the dermatologic, gastrointestinal, pulmonary, endocrine, and cardiovascular systems. In addition, intraoperative alternatives and adjuncts to transfusion should be considered. It appears reasonable to use prophylactic desmopressin and antifibrinolytic agents, whereas activated recombinant factor VII could be considered in severe bleeding. Other options include enhancing thrombin generation with prothrombin complex concentrate or increasing fibrinogen levels with fibrinogen concentrate or cryoprecipitate.

Furthermore, both KMI1303, an inhibitor of β-secretase, as well as DAPT, an inhibitor of γ- secretase, were found to be able to inhibit the effect of T. denticola on Aβ accumulation in N2a neuronal cells. Expression of PIAS1 was substantially lower in total migraineurs compared with controls (ratio of mean expressions (RME) = 0.18, SE = 0.29, P value  less then  0.001) and in both male and female migraineurs compared with sex-matched controls. One such population is believed to be akin to neocortical neurogliaform cells, yet specific molecular markers for studying these neurons are sparse and hence their function remains elusive. Recently, neuron-derived neurotrophic factor (NDNF) has been proposed as one such marker for neocortical neurogliaform cells. Using a combination of histological, physiological and optogenetic tools, we hence sought to first validate if NDNF was selectively expressed by such inhibitory neurons within the neocortex, and then if it was confined to a similar population within the LHb. While we report this to be true for the neocortex, we find no such evidence within the LHb; rather that NDNF is expressed without restriction to a particular neuronal subpopulation. These results hence indicate that molecular markers can represent broadly diverse populations of neurons on a region-to-region basis and that therefore each population as defined by molecular marker expression should be validated in each brain structure.

  • The surface DIMI sites led to the increased adsorption and improved local concentration of MG and AO on Bi2WO6/CuO/Ag2O. Consequently, the heterojunction properties of the final DIMI product accelerated the transfer and separation of photogenerated carriers. The high binding affinity of the DIMI sites to MG and AO confirmed the selective recognition, which was tested in the presence of coexisting pollutant dyes. The other characterizations confirmed the successful fabrication and high photocatalytic activity of the high-surface-area DIMI-Bi2WO6/CuO/Ag2O heterostructured composite. In general, the superior interfacial electronic interactions, high migration efficiency of photoinduced charge carriers, and strong visible light absorption of the prepared photocatalyst resulted in good photocatalytic performance.
    Acute tonsillitis has become one of the main reasons why children visit healthcare facilities in Nigeria. Presently, there is no information on the costs of its treatment, and this study aimed at determining these costs.

    The study was conducted in two hospitals located in southeast Nigeria. The information was obtained in two ways (1) retrospectively from the medical records of children treated for acute tonsillitis over a period of 5years and (2) cross-sectionally from children who presented with complaints of acute tonsillitis over a period of 7months. The information obtained was the costs of self-medication and hospital treatment, and the payment mechanisms used to settle these costs. The human capital method approach was used to estimate the indirect cost (loss in productivity) from the caregivers' absenteeism from work.

    The mean costs of self-medication and hospital treatment for acute tonsillitis in children were €3.85 and €13.48, respectively. The indirect cost was €11.31. The mean total cost of and most of these costs were settled out-of-pocket. The costs for laboratory investigations, drugs, and productivity loss contributed to these high costs. There is a need to cover the costs of non-surgical treatment of acute tonsillitis in social health insurance and improve efforts to increase the coverage of the health insurance scheme.Different strategies may be adopted in patients with synchronous colorectal liver metastases (LM). The role of laparoscopy has been investigated to define the benefits of minimally invasive surgery in a single-stage operation. In our study, we report our experience of 28 Minimally Invasive Robotic-Assisted combined Colorectal and Liver Excision Surgery (MIRACLES). From October 2012 to December 2019, 135 Robotic liver resections and 218 Robotic Colorectal resections were performed in our center. Twenty-eight patients underwent MIRACLES resection with 37 nodules removed. Fifty-two lesions in 28 patients were resected in minimally invasive robot-assisted surgery. Eighteen lesions were located in postero-superior liver segments (eight in segment VII, two in segment VIII, eight in segment IVa). Nine right colectomies, seven left colectomies, ten anterior rectal resections, one Hartmann and one MILES procedures were performed. The median surgical time of MIRACLES procedures was 332 min. Two conversions to open approach were necessary. Four major complications (> III) were observed. No postoperative mortality was recorded. The median hospital stay was 8 days.     Hypokalemia is one of the most common electrolyte disturbances in clinical practice. There are only a few epidemiological studies analyzing the occurrence of hypokalemia in older persons. The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence of hypokalemia in the Polish older population.

    Serum potassium concentration was estimated in 4654 participants (2270 females and 2384 males, mean age 76.5 [11.0] years), who participated in the PolSenior study. Hypokalemia was defined as serum potassium concentration below 3.5mmol/L. Hypokalemia was found in 39 participants (0.84%) and was significantly more frequent among females (28 females = 1.23% and 11 males = 0.46%; p = 0.003). The prevalence of hypokalemia was not related to age. Among 3303 participants suffering from arterial hypertension, 1093 were treated with potassium-losing diuretics.

    Hypokalemia was significantly more frequent among hypertensive than normotensive older participants (1.06 vs. 0.30% respectively; p = 0.007) and among hypertensive participants treated with potassium losing diuretics than ones untreated with these drugs (1.96 vs. 0.46% respectively; p < 0.001). In hypertensive participants, the prevalence of hypokalemia did not depend significantly on oral supplementation of potassium (1.92 and 0.98% respectively, NS). None of 81 participants using laxative agents presented hypokalemia.

We use data from 14,096 clinical assessments of 3602 Alzheimer's patients and their caregivers. Each patient completed a semantic memory task involving the odd-one-out comparison of animal names. Each patient was also independently evaluated to determine their level of impairment. Our cognitive models assume a feature-based representation of the animals and odd-one-out choice probabilities based on common-feature similarities. We find no evidence for the restructured representation hypothesis, which claims that impairment causes changes in the features used to represent stimuli. We also find no evidence for the attention change hypothesis, which claims that impairment causes greater attention to be given to concrete features at the expense of more abstract features. We do find evidence for the noisy access hypothesis, which claims that odd-one-out choices become less determined by semantic similarity and more prone to the simple response strategy of choosing the last option.

We use data from 14,096 clinical assessments of 3602 Alzheimer's patients and their caregivers. Each patient completed a semantic memory task involving the odd-one-out comparison of animal names. Each patient was also independently evaluated to determine their level of impairment. Our cognitive models assume a feature-based representation of the animals and odd-one-out choice probabilities based on common-feature similarities. We find no evidence for the restructured representation hypothesis, which claims that impairment causes changes in the features used to represent stimuli. We also find no evidence for the attention change hypothesis, which claims that impairment causes greater attention to be given to concrete features at the expense of more abstract features. We do find evidence for the noisy access hypothesis, which claims that odd-one-out choices become less determined by semantic similarity and more prone to the simple response strategy of choosing the last option.

  • The SSO Choosing Wisely campaign recommended selective sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) in clinically node-negative women aged ≥ 70 years with ER+ breast cancer. We sought to assess the association of SLNB positivity, adjuvant treatment, and survival in a population-based cohort.

    Women aged ≥ 70 years treated for ER+ HER2- breast cancer between 2010 and 2016 were identified in our prospective provincial database. Overall survival (OS) and breast cancer-specific survival (BCSS) were assessed using Kaplan-Meier analysis. Multivariable logistic regression was used to assess the association of SLNB positivity with use of adjuvant treatments and survival outcomes.

    We identified 2662 patients who met study criteria. SLNB was positive in 25%. Increased use of chemotherapy (ChT), hormone therapy (HT), and radiotherapy (RT) was significantly associated with SLNB positivity. Five-year OS was 86%, and BCSS was 96% with median follow-up of 4.3 years. BCSS was worse with grade 3 disease (HR 4.1, 95% CI 2.1-8.1, p < 0.0001) and better with HT (HR 0.5 95% CI 0.3-0.9, p = 0.01). Patients with a positive SLNB treated without adjuvant therapy had lower BCSS (HR 3.2 95% CI 1.2-8.4, p = 0.017) than those with a negative SLNB, but patients with a positive SLNB treated with any combination of ChT, HT, and/or RT, had similar BCSS to those with a negative SLNB.

    Due to the high risk of ischemic and arterial or venous bleeding events in atrial fibrillation (AF) or venous thromboembolism (VTE) patients with renal impairment (RI), selection of appropriate anticoagulant regimen is important. Therefore, we systematically reviewed and compared the safety and effects of oral anticoagulants in AF and VTE patients with RI.

    Eligible articles were identified through a literature search in PubMed, Embase, ClinicalTrials.gov, and the Cochrane Library for studies published between January 2008 and November 2020. Network meta-analysis was conducted with STATA 14.0 to analyze the effects and safety of each drug with regard to different levels of renal function.

The location of the right recurrent laryngeal nerve was accurately determined during dissection by intermittent stimulation using a monopolar stimulation probe of an intraoperative neuromonitoring system to avoid injury. Here we highlight new data demonstrating that CD8+ T cells and NK cells in CL display a highly cytotoxic senescent phenotype, and that the senescent T cells play a major role in mediating skin pathology. Pooled results by the random-effects model showed that citrus and/or its extracts administration significantly reduced 1.280 kg body weight (95% CI -1.818 to -0.741, p = 0.000, I2 = 81.4%), 0.322 kg/m2 BMI (95% CI -0.599 to -0.046, p = 0.022, I2 = 87.0%), 2.185 cm WC (95% CI -3.804 to -0.566, p = 0.008, I2 = 98.3%), and 2.137 cm HC (95% CI -3.775 to -0.500, p = 0.011, I2 = 96.2%), respectively, but no significantly decreased effects on WHR and body fat were observed. Die vorliegende Übersicht empfiehlt eine zielorientierte klinisch-ophthalmologische Diagnostik bei Verdacht auf IRD mit einer Bewertung der Relevanz der einzelnen Methoden und ihrer Kombination für Diagnose, Differenzialdiagnose und Beurteilung der Progression im Verlauf. Nach einer umfassenden Anamnese ist initial die Kombination von optischer Kohärenztomografie (OCT), Fundus- und Nahinfrarot-Autofluoreszenz zur Frühdiagnose einer IRD ggf. vor ophthalmoskopisch sichtbaren Läsionen sinnvoll. Spektrale Reflexionsfotografie, OCT-Angiografie und Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging Ophthalmoscopy sind bei einzelnen IRD hilfreich.
