Purpose To study the demographic details, risk factors, microbiological profile, and clinical outcomes of pediatric infectious keratitis cases in North India. Methods This retrospective case series included review of medical records of pediatric patients (0-16 years) diagnosed with infectious keratitis in a tertiary care center of North India during December 2011 to January 2017 was done. Demographic details, predisposing factors, microbiological investigations, and clinical outcomes were analyzed. Results In this time period, 104 eyes of 104 children had a diagnosis of infectious keratitis. Culture was obtained for all 104 eyes and was positive in eighty eight eyes (84.2%). The most common causative factor was trauma, seen in 77 eyes (74%). Bacteria was the most common agent isolated in culture (54.2%) followed by fungi (40.8%) and acanthamoeba (2.1%). Successful healing of the keratitis with appropriate medical treatment occurred in 84 (80.7%) eyes, while 13 (12.5%) eyes required therapeutic keratoplasty. Of the 80 eyes with documentation of both preliminary and final visual acuity, improvement of two lines was seen in 35 eyes (43.7%), stayed the same in and worsened in 17 eyes (21%). Mean time to resolution of infection on medical treatment for bacteria was 23.65 ± 4.78 days, fungi 32 ± 5.19 days, and acanthamoeba 53.67 ± 4.78 days. Conclusion Gram positive organism is the most common etiological agent of keratitis in children in our study population which is in contrast to pediatric infective keratitis study conducted by Aruljyothi et al. in South India (2011--2013). Though less in number than bacterial keratitis, fungus also remains an important causative agent. Data were retrieved using an in-house eyeSmart EMR system. The demographic details and clinical presentation and ocular disease profile of all the patients were analyzed in detail. Results In an 8-year period, a total of 2,270,584 patients were captured on the EMR system with 4,730,221 consultations. More than half of the patients presented at tertiary centers (n = 1,174,643, 51.73%), a quarter at the secondary centers (n = 564,251, 24.85%) followed by the vision centers (n = 531,690, 23.42%). The ratio of males and females was 1.181. Most common states of presentation were Andhra Pradesh (n = 1,103,733, 48.61%) and Telangana (n = 661,969, 29.15%). In total, 3,721,051 ocular diagnosis instances were documented in the patients. Most common ocular disorders were related to cornea and anterior segment (n = 1,347,754, 36.22%) followed by refractive error (n = 1,133,078, 30.45%). Conclusion This study depicts the demographic details and distribution of various ocular disorders in a very large cohort of patients. There is a need to adopt digitization in geographies that cater to large populations to enable insightful research. The implementation of EMR systems enables structured data for research purposes and the development of real-time analytics for the same.Glaucoma management during pregnancy is a challenge for the patient and doctor. During pregnancy, the intraocular pressure (IOP) decreases. However, some women with preexisting glaucoma have elevated IOP requiring enhanced medical treatment. Glaucoma refractory to medical treatment combined with disease progression may necessitate laser trabeculoplasty or surgical intervention. Surgery during pregnancy has potential risks for both the mother and fetus. The challenges include problems with anesthesia, positioning for surgery, difficulties in the surgical procedure, potential risk with antimetabolites, and concerns with the management of postoperative complications. We report two case scenarios that highlight the challenges associated with trabeculectomy in pregnant women and the modifications that can be adopted to improve safety and the efficacy of glaucoma filtering surgery during pregnancy.[This corrects the article DOI 10.4103/CJP.CJP_61_19].The DNA repair capacity plays a critical role in maintaining the genomic stability and gatekeeping for individual cancer risk. In this study, we aim at evaluation the role of the Asp148Glu (rs1130409) variant at apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease (APE) gene in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) risk and the contribution of different genotypes to its transcriptional mRNA levels. In the case-control study, 92 RCC patients and 580 cancer-free patients matched by age and gender were recruited. The apurinic/APE genotyping work was conducted with typical restriction fragment length polymorphism methodology after polymerase chain reaction. At the meanwhile, thirty renal tissue samples with variant genotypes were examined for their apurinic/APE mRNA and protein expressions by real-time quantitative reverse transcription method and Western blotting. The results showed that compared with the wild-type TT genotype, the people with TG and GG genotypes of apurinic/APE Asp148Glu had 0.88- and 1.09-fold risk of RCC, respectively. We have also examined the in vivo transcriptional (RNA) and translational (protein) levels with renal tissues of various apurinic/APE Asp148Glu genotypes, revealing that the apurinic/APE mRNA and protein were of similar levels among people of TT, TG, or GG genotypes. There was no joint gene-environment effect of apurinic/APE Asp148Glu genotype and smoking habit on RCC risk. The treatment plan allowed the restoration and improvement of function and esthetics, resulting in patient satisfaction.Erythema multiforme (EM) is an acute hypersensitivity reaction that affects the skin and/or mucosa. EM induced by fluconazole is extremely rare, with only 2 previously published case reports. The aims of this article are to report a rare case of severe EM induced by fluconazole in an immunocompetent patient and to review all similar published cases. A 35-year-old man presented with multiple painful superficial ulcerated lesions on the lips, superficial ulcers on the right and left ocular mucosa, and erythematous macules on the right cervical region. Moreover, multiple painful superficial ulcers covered by a serofibrinous pseudomembrane were located on the oral mucosa. The lesions appeared after the initial oral use of fluconazole (100 mg) 3 weeks previously for the treatment of onychomycosis. The clinical diagnosis was EM associated with fluconazole. The antifungal medication was discontinued, and a single dose of intramuscular Diprospan (5 mg of betamethasone dipropionate/2 mg of betamethasone disodium phosphate) was prescribed. Complete healing of all lesions at the 7-day follow-up was observed.The aim of this study was to evaluate the degree of conversion of resin cements polymerized under different ceramic systems. Measurements of the degree of conversion of the resin cements were performed 10 minutes, 1 hour, and 24 hours after curing using a Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometer. The values were subjected to a 3-way repeated-measures analysis of variance, and the means were compared with the Fisher protected least significant difference test (α = 0.05). The study findings showed that RelyX ARC resin cement displayed a higher degree of conversion than Maxcem Elite (P 0.05). For both cements, the degree of conversion increased gradually up to 24 hours after curing (P less then 0.05). The ceramic system used directly influenced the degree of conversion of RelyX ARC. Copyright © 2020, Genetics.OBJECTIVES Identifying the preferred place of death for children/young people with cancer and determining whether this is achieved is pertinent to inform palliative care service provision. The aims of this retrospective case series review were to determine where children/young people with cancer want to die and whether their preferred place of death is achieved. METHODS Clinical/demographic details, including preferred and actual places of death, were recorded for 121 patients who died between 2012 and 2016 at a tertiary haematology-oncology centre. A logistic regression model was used to determine the odds of achieving the preferred place of death in patient subgroups. RESULTS 74 (61%) patients had a documented discussion regarding place of death preference. Where a preferred location was identified, 72% achieved it. All patients who wanted to die in the hospital (n=17) or a hospice (n=9) did, but only 58% of patients who wanted to die at home (n=40) achieved this. Of the 42% (n=17) who wanted to die at home but did not, 59% of these were due to rapid deterioration in clinical status shortly after the discussion. Having supportive treatment in the last month of life was associated with increased odds of achieving the preferred place of death versus those who were undergoing chemotherapy/radiotherapy (OR 3.19, 95% CI 1.04 to 9.80, p value=0.04). CONCLUSION Where hospice/hospital was chosen as the preferred place of death, this was always achieved. Achieving home as the preferred place of death was more challenging and frequently prevented by rapid clinical deterioration. Clinicians should be encouraged to address end-of-life preferences at an early stage, with information provided adequately. METHODS Clinicaltrials.gov was searched to identify registered studies recruiting patients with cancer, and investigating issues relevant to palliative care. The European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer QLQ-C15-PAL (Quality of Life in palliative cancer care patients) questionnaire was taken into account to define the research domains of interest. Studies investigating cancer-directed therapy, management of cancer treatment-related adverse events and diagnostic tests were excluded. Publication status was crosschecked using PubMed. Copyright © 2020, Genetics.OBJECTIVES Identifying the preferred place of death for children/young people with cancer and determining whether this is achieved is pertinent to inform palliative care service provision. The aims of this retrospective case series review were to determine where children/young people with cancer want to die and whether their preferred place of death is achieved. METHODS Clinical/demographic details, including preferred and actual places of death, were recorded for 121 patients who died between 2012 and 2016 at a tertiary haematology-oncology centre. A logistic regression model was used to determine the odds of achieving the preferred place of death in patient subgroups. RESULTS 74 (61%) patients had a documented discussion regarding place of death preference. Where a preferred location was identified, 72% achieved it. All patients who wanted to die in the hospital (n=17) or a hospice (n=9) did, but only 58% of patients who wanted to die at home (n=40) achieved this. Of the 42% (n=17) who wanted to die at home but did not, 59% of these were due to rapid deterioration in clinical status shortly after the discussion. Having supportive treatment in the last month of life was associated with increased odds of achieving the preferred place of death versus those who were undergoing chemotherapy/radiotherapy (OR 3.19, 95% CI 1.04 to 9.80, p value=0.04). CONCLUSION Where hospice/hospital was chosen as the preferred place of death, this was always achieved. Achieving home as the preferred place of death was more challenging and frequently prevented by rapid clinical deterioration. Clinicians should be encouraged to address end-of-life preferences at an early stage, with information provided adequately. In the present study, high-throughput RNA sequencing was performed after S. salsa leaves were exposed to 300 mM NaCl for 7 days, and 7,753 unigenes were identified as differently expressed genes (DEGs) in S. salsa, including 3,638 increased and 4,115 decreased unigenes. Moreover, hundreds of pathways were predicted to participate in salt stress response in S. salsa by Gene Ontology (GO), MapMan and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analyses, including ion transport and sequestration as well as photoprotection of photosystem (PS) II. The GO enrichment analysis indicated that genes related to ion transport, reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging and transcriptional factors were highly expressed upon NaCl treatment. The excessive Na+ and Cl- ions were supposed to be absorbed into the vacuole for ion sequestration and balance adjustment by potassium transporters (such as KEA3) with high expressions. Based on a set of 654 clinical Mycobacterium tuberculosis culture isolates with known mutations throughout the pncA gene as determined by Sanger sequencing, the assay displays excellent sensitivity of 96.9% (95% CI 95.2-98.6) and specificity of 97.9% (95% CI 96.1-99.7). SUBJECTS/METHODS Overall, 143 participants (body mass index 21.9-28.0 kg/m2) were randomized to a CR group that aimed to achieve 25% CR for 2 years. Interestingly however, electron microscopy of fenretinide-treated cells revealed an excessive accumulation of cytoplasmic vacuoles, which were distinct from autophagosomes. Further flow cytometry and fluorescence microscopy experiments suggested a hyperstimulation of macropinocytosis, leading to an accumulation of enlarged early and late endosomes. Surprisingly, pharmacological inhibition as well as genetic depletion of large dynamin GTPases completely abolished fenretinide-induced vesicle formation and subsequent cell death, suggesting a new form of dynamin-dependent programmed cell death. Identification of the molecular mechanisms underlying the salt tolerance in euhalophyte Suaeda salsa is conducive to the development of salt-resistant crops. In the present study, high-throughput RNA sequencing was performed after S. salsa leaves were exposed to 300 mM NaCl for 7 days, and 7,753 unigenes were identified as differently expressed genes (DEGs) in S. salsa, including 3,638 increased and 4,115 decreased unigenes. Moreover, hundreds of pathways were predicted to participate in salt stress response in S. salsa by Gene Ontology (GO), MapMan and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analyses, including ion transport and sequestration as well as photoprotection of photosystem (PS) II. The GO enrichment analysis indicated that genes related to ion transport, reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging and transcriptional factors were highly expressed upon NaCl treatment. The excessive Na+ and Cl- ions were supposed to be absorbed into the vacuole for ion sequestration and balance adjustment by potassium transporters (such as KEA3) with high expressions. While whole genome sequencing holds promise, it is not yet feasible option in low resource settings as it requires expensive instruments and bioinformatic analysis. We investigated the diagnostic performance of a closed-tube Linear-After-The-Exponential (LATE)-PCR assay for pyrazinamide susceptibility in Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Based on a set of 654 clinical Mycobacterium tuberculosis culture isolates with known mutations throughout the pncA gene as determined by Sanger sequencing, the assay displays excellent sensitivity of 96.9% (95% CI 95.2-98.6) and specificity of 97.9% (95% CI 96.1-99.7). In a subset of 384 isolates with phenotypic drug susceptibility testing, we also observed high sensitivity of 98.9% (95% CI 97.5-100) but lower specificity of 91.8% (95% CI 87.9-95.8) when compared to phenotypic drug susceptibility testing. SUBJECTS/METHODS Overall, 143 participants (body mass index 21.9-28.0 kg/m2) were randomized to a CR group that aimed to achieve 25% CR for 2 years. RESULTS Women, lesbians, those with lower income and younger people were more likely to engage in self-harm. Self-harmers exhibited **** more discrimination, LGB victimization and, thus, internalized homophobia and depressive symptomatology than non-self-harmers. The structural equation model showed direct effects of age and gender, and indirect effects of income and sexual orientation, on self-harm, through the mediating variables of discrimination, LGB victimization and internalized homophobia. CONCLUSIONS Consistent with the cognitive-behavioral model, the results indicate that exposure to situational stressors can increase the risk of developing a self-hatred and depressive psychological self-schema, resulting in greater risk of self-harm as a maladaptive coping strategy. Stepwise advancement and extraordinary efficiency regarding ORF1a/b overlap in coronaviruses.
Social support (SS) is typically associated with lower emotional distress (e.g., stress and depression) in individuals. However, SS is a multifaceted construct that can vary by quality, quantity (amount), and type (i.e., it can be emotional or instrumental in nature). OBJECTIVE The current study examined the relationships between characteristics of SS, stress, and depression in aging African Americans. PARTICIPANTS Analyses focused on data from 705 participants aged 22-92 years from the Carolina African American Twin Study of Aging. MEASUREMENTS Measures included the quality and quantity of emotional and instrumental support received, as well as stress and depression. DESIGN A series of univariate and increasingly complex multivariate regression models were conducted in MPlus (using the cluster option to control for family structure) to examine the relationships between SS and emotional distress variables. RESULTS Overall, better quality of emotional SS predicted fewer depression symptoms and less perceived stress, after controlling for age, gender, socioeconomic status variables, and the other subtypes of SS. BACKGROUND The cost of treating Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI), particularly recurrent disease, is high. In clinical trials, fidaxomicin has been associated with significantly lower recurrence rates and higher sustained cure rates versus vancomycin. The high acquisition cost of fidaxomicin has limited its acceptance into clinical practice. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the cost-effectiveness of fidaxomicin versus vancomycin in patients with CDI after failure of metronidazole in the Japanese healthcare setting. METHODS Clinical results from three phase III trials and inputs based on assumptions validated by clinical experts in Japan were used in a semi-Markov model with 1-year time horizon. Incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICERs) for fidaxomicin versus vancomycin were expressed as cost per quality-adjusted life year (QALY) and interpreted using willingness-to-pay thresholds of JPY 5,000,000 (primary) and JPY 7,500,000 (secondary) per QALY gained in Japan. Probabilistic sensitivity analyses and scenario analyses were performed. RESULTS Higher drug acquisition costs for fidaxomicin were partially offset by lower hospitalization costs driven by fewer recurrences, lower costs of complications, and fewer general practitioner visits versus vancomycin. The ICER for fidaxomicin versus vancomycin was estimated at JPY 5,715,183 per QALY gained. Sensitivity analyses showed a 46% probability of fidaxomicin being cost-effective versus vancomycin at a willingness-to-pay threshold of JPY 5,000,000 per QALY gained. At a threshold of JPY 7,500,000, there was a 54% probability of fidaxomicin being cost-effective. CONCLUSIONS Fidaxomicin treatment in patients with CDI following failure of metronidazole improves health outcomes with partial offset of higher drug acquisition costs versus vancomycin. OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of vancomycin and fidaxomicin on the diversity of intestinal microbiota in a mouse model of Clostridioides difficile infection. METHODS **** were divided into 11 models (4 **** per model) 6 uninoculated models and 5 models inoculated with C. difficile BI/NAP1/027. Inoculated models were prepared using intraperitoneal clindamycin followed by inoculation with C. difficile BI/NAP1/027. Uninoculated and C. difficile-inoculated **** received 2 or 7 days' vancomycin or fidaxomicin. Clostridium butyricum MIYAIRI 588 probiotic and lactoferrin prebiotic were administered for 10 days to uninoculated ****. Intestinal microbiome composition was investigated by sequence analyses of bacterial 16S rRNA genes from faeces, and microbiota diversity estimated. RESULTS In uninoculated, untreated ('normal') ****, Clostridia (57.8%) and Bacteroidia (32.4%) accounted for the largest proportions of gut microbiota. The proportion of Clostridia was numerically reduced in C. difficile-inoculated versus normal ****. Administration of vancomycin to C. difficile-inoculated **** reduced the proportions of Bacteroidia and Clostridia, and increased that of Proteobacteria. Administration of fidaxomicin to C. difficile-inoculated **** reduced the proportion of Clostridia to a lesser extent, but increased that of Bacteroidia. Microbiota diversity was lower in C. difficile-inoculated versus normal **** (164.5 versus 349.1 operational taxonomic units (OTUs), respectively); treatment of C. difficile-inoculated **** with 7 days' vancomycin reduced diversity to a greater extent than did 7 days' fidaxomicin treatment (26.2 versus 134.2 OTUs, respectively). CONCLUSIONS Both C. difficile inoculation and treatment with vancomycin or fidaxomicin reduced microbiota diversity; however, dysbiosis associated with fidaxomicin was milder than with vancomycin. OBJECTIVES Annually, the CDC reports that 2.5 million Emergency Department (ED) visits occur due to Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) with nearly 75% classified as mild TBI (mTBI). Generally, these injuries are thought to be under recognized. This study was done to determine the proportion of patients, who were considered high risk for an mTBI, that had documentation of an mTBI evaluation. METHODS A prospective cross-section of patients was identified using a 3-question screen at the time of triage did an injury occur; was the mechanism consistent with mTBI; and was there a period of altered mental status. Chart review was completed for these patients who were thought to meet a minimum threshold warranting an evaluation for mTBI. RESULTS 38,621 patients were screened over 16 weeks, of whom 441 (1.14%) were identified as being high risk for having an mTBI and met inclusion criteria. Recommended portions of an mTBI evaluation occurred in fewer than 50% of patients. In total, 98 subjects were diagnosed with an mTBI, and 49 received mTBI discharge instructions.

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the cost-effectiveness of fidaxomicin versus vancomycin in patients with CDI after failure of metronidazole in the Japanese healthcare setting. METHODS Clinical results from three phase III trials and inputs based on assumptions validated by clinical experts in Japan were used in a semi-Markov model with 1-year time horizon. Incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICERs) for fidaxomicin versus vancomycin were expressed as cost per quality-adjusted life year (QALY) and interpreted using willingness-to-pay thresholds of JPY 5,000,000 (primary) and JPY 7,500,000 (secondary) per QALY gained in Japan. Probabilistic sensitivity analyses and scenario analyses were performed. RESULTS Higher drug acquisition costs for fidaxomicin were partially offset by lower hospitalization costs driven by fewer recurrences, lower costs of complications, and fewer general practitioner visits versus vancomycin. The ICER for fidaxomicin versus vancomycin was estimated at JPY 5,715,183 per QALY gained. Sensitivity analyses showed a 46% probability of fidaxomicin being cost-effective versus vancomycin at a willingness-to-pay threshold of JPY 5,000,000 per QALY gained. At a threshold of JPY 7,500,000, there was a 54% probability of fidaxomicin being cost-effective. CONCLUSIONS Fidaxomicin treatment in patients with CDI following failure of metronidazole improves health outcomes with partial offset of higher drug acquisition costs versus vancomycin. OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of vancomycin and fidaxomicin on the diversity of intestinal microbiota in a mouse model of Clostridioides difficile infection. METHODS Mice were divided into 11 models (4 mice per model) 6 uninoculated models and 5 models inoculated with C. difficile BI/NAP1/027. Inoculated models were prepared using intraperitoneal clindamycin followed by inoculation with C. difficile BI/NAP1/027. Uninoculated and C. difficile-inoculated mice received 2 or 7 days' vancomycin or fidaxomicin. Clostridium butyricum MIYAIRI 588 probiotic and lactoferrin prebiotic were administered for 10 days to uninoculated mice. Intestinal microbiome composition was investigated by sequence analyses of bacterial 16S rRNA genes from faeces, and microbiota diversity estimated. RESULTS In uninoculated, untreated ('normal') mice, Clostridia (57.8%) and Bacteroidia (32.4%) accounted for the largest proportions of gut microbiota. The proportion of Clostridia was numerically reduced in C. difficile-inoculated versus normal mice. Administration of vancomycin to C. difficile-inoculated mice reduced the proportions of Bacteroidia and Clostridia, and increased that of Proteobacteria. Administration of fidaxomicin to C. difficile-inoculated mice reduced the proportion of Clostridia to a lesser extent, but increased that of Bacteroidia. Microbiota diversity was lower in C. difficile-inoculated versus normal mice (164.5 versus 349.1 operational taxonomic units (OTUs), respectively); treatment of C. difficile-inoculated mice with 7 days' vancomycin reduced diversity to a greater extent than did 7 days' fidaxomicin treatment (26.2 versus 134.2 OTUs, respectively). Generally, these injuries are thought to be under recognized. This study was done to determine the proportion of patients, who were considered high risk for an mTBI, that had documentation of an mTBI evaluation. METHODS A prospective cross-section of patients was identified using a 3-question screen at the time of triage did an injury occur; was the mechanism consistent with mTBI; and was there a period of altered mental status. Chart review was completed for these patients who were thought to meet a minimum threshold warranting an evaluation for mTBI. RESULTS 38,621 patients were screened over 16 weeks, of whom 441 (1.14%) were identified as being high risk for having an mTBI and met inclusion criteria. Recommended portions of an mTBI evaluation occurred in fewer than 50% of patients. Electroplating wastewater produced by this company contains Nickel and COD above the quality standards set by the Government of DKI Jakarta (Governor Regulation No. 69/2013). This research aims to analyze and compare the efficiency and kinetics of Nickel complexes and COD removal using the Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP) and Electrocoagulation (EC) method. Electroplating wastewater generated by SIMP Cakung (ratio of plating wastewater to overflow plating wastewater is 130) in this study had characteristics of 379-568 ppm (effluent standard = 75 ppm) of COD, and 87.555-121 ppm (effluent standard = 1 ppm) of Nickel. Preliminary experiments with the factorial design method indicated that independent variables (pH, current density, ozone flow rate, and contact time) had a critical inindustrial wastewater, but also it could reduce the loading of COD for further treatment units by more than 50%. In this trial, the clinical target volume has been tailored to the early staged disease of the included patients. This mesorectal irradiation volume includes the mesorectum and pre-sacral lymph nodes at the level of the tumour, two centimetres below and cranially up to the S2-3 interspace level. In contrast to conventional irradiation volumes, the lateral lymph nodes and the nodes along the superior rectal artery are excluded. As a result, the dose to the bowel, bladder, anal sphincter and the neurovascular plexus in the lower pelvis is substantially decreased, especially when combined with modern irradiation techniques, such as dynamic arc therapy. These lower doses are expected to lead to decreasing acute and late toxicity and beneficial functional outcomes. The implementation of this novel target volume will be accompanied by an extensive quality assurance program in the STAR-TREC trial. In particular, fucosyltransferase 8 (FUT8) is the only FUT responsible for α1, 6-linked fucosylation (core fucosylation), and it is involved in various physiological as well as pathophysiological processes, including cancer biology. Therefore, we aimed to identify the expression of FUT8 in endometrial endometrioid carcinoma and investigate the effect of the partial silencing of the FUT8 gene on the cell proliferation of Ishikawa cells, an epithelial-like endometrial cancer cell line. Quantitative real-time PCR analysis showed that FUT8 gene expression was significantly elevated in the endometrial endometrioid carcinoma, compared to the normal endometrium.

Additionally, all compounds were evaluated for their anti-complementary activities against the classical pathway. Informed by data on the cognitive, affective and sociocultural factors associated with low cervical screening in the English-speaking island of Jamaica, the current study aimed to explore how theory-based message design, coupled with innovative solutions, might increase screening. In this formative research study, we first described the process used to develop culturally-targeted fear appeal messages embedded within an HPV self-sampling kit developed by the researchers. Then, we shared the results of an evaluation of the kit, which was reviewed by 36 Jamaican women in 8 focus groups, to understand the potential impact of the messages and the utility of HPV self-sampling to increase screening behaviors in this population. The results provide data on effective messages for cervical cancer prevention among Jamaican women, which may be further applicable to underscreened women in the English-speaking Caribbean. Mean telomerase activity was significantly greater in the high-dose rhBMP-2 group compared to the control and low-dose rhBMP-2 groups. The percentage of SA-β-gal-positive NPCs increased more rapidly in the high-dose rhBMP-2 group with passaging compared to the control and low-dose rhBMP-2 groups. The expression of p53, p21, and p16 in both low and high dose rhBMP-2 groups increased in all passages compared to the control group. We found that prolonged high-dose rhBMP-2 treatment increased telomerase activity of human NPCs, but decreased replicative capacity and lifespan in long term culture. We also found that excessive growth stimulation by prolonged high-dose rhBMP-2 treatment can promote NPCs senescence and result in growth arrest.Despite the disproportionate burden of cervical cancer among Caribbean women, evaluations of targeted communication interventions to increase screening behaviors are sparsely represented in extant literature. Informed by data on the cognitive, affective and sociocultural factors associated with low cervical screening in the English-speaking island of Jamaica, the current study aimed to explore how theory-based message design, coupled with innovative solutions, might increase screening. In this formative research study, we first described the process used to develop culturally-targeted fear appeal messages embedded within an HPV self-sampling kit developed by the researchers. Then, we shared the results of an evaluation of the kit, which was reviewed by 36 Jamaican women in 8 focus groups, to understand the potential impact of the messages and the utility of HPV self-sampling to increase screening behaviors in this population. The results provide data on effective messages for cervical cancer prevention among Jamaican women, which may be further applicable to underscreened women in the English-speaking Caribbean. Additionally, results from this research suggest support for HPV self-sampling to address salient cultural and structural barriers to screening, which provides an impetus for experimental research in message design to inform policy and practice.In this essay, I explore the intermodal nature of well-being by considering the health benefits of music as an embodied, everyday practice in the unrelenting tempo of contemporary society. Measures included anthropometric and biochemical parameters, BMI, WHR, WHtR, BAI, VAI, LAP, HOMA-IR, and lipid profile.Results LAP has highest AUC value 0.781 with cut-off value = 39.73 (sensitivity = 75% and specificity = 79.5%) for predicting IR and AUC value 0.83 with cut-off value = 35.63 (sensitivity = 94.4% and specificity = 77.3%) for predicting MetS in women with PCOS.
