  • A cumulative environmental exposure score for schizophrenia (exposome score for schizophrenia [ES-SCZ]) may provide potential utility for risk stratification and outcome prediction.     The dynamics of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) seroconversion of hospital employees are understudied. We measured the proportion of seroconverted employees and evaluated risk factors for seroconversion during the first pandemic wave.

    In this prospective cohort study, we recruited Geneva University Hospitals employees and sampled them 3 times, every 3 weeks from March 30 to June 12, 2020. We measured the proportion of seroconverted employees and determined prevalence ratios of risk factors for seroconversion using multivariate mixed-effects Poisson regression models.

    Overall, 3,421 participants (29% of all employees) were included, with 92% follow-up. The proportion of seroconverted employees increased from 4.4% (95% confidence interval [CI], 3.7%-5.1%) at baseline to 8.5% [(95% CI, 7.6%-9.5%) at the last visit.     Epidemiologic and environmental investigations were conducted including contact tracing, environmental surveys, and sampling and review of the operating room schedule for staff-to-staff, staff-to-patient, and patient-to-staff SARS-CoV-2 transmission.

    In total, 24 healthcare personnel (HCP) tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, including nurses (29%), surgical technologists (25%), and surgical residents (16%). Moreover, 19 HCP (79%) reported having used a communal area, most commonly break rooms (75%). Overall, 20 HCP (83%) reported symptomatic disease. In total, 72 environmental samples were collected from communal areas for SARS-CoV-2 genomic testing; none was positive. Furthermore, 236 surgical cases were reviewed for transmission 213 (90%) had negative preoperative SARS-CoV-2 testing, 21 (9%) had a positive test on or before the date of surgery, and 2 (<1%) did not have a preoperative test performed. In addition, 40 patients underwent postoperative testing (mean, 13 days to postoperative testing), and 2 returned positive results. Neither of these 2 cases was linked to our outbreak.

Therefore, this work aimed to close that gap by recording and analysing the parasite community of a large number of birds from Austria for the first time. A total of 60 specimens shot by hunters in autumn were examined for intestinal parasites. The following taxa were recovered (prevalence given in parentheses) Cestoda Diorchis sp. (31.7%) and Fimbriarioides intermedia (1.7%); Acanthocephala Filicollis anatis (5%), Polymorphus minutus (30%) and one cystacanth unidentified (1.7%); Trematoda Apatemon gracilis (3.3%), Echinostoma grandis (6.7%), Echinostoma revolutum (6.7%) and Notocotylus attenuatus (23.3%); Nematoda Porrocaecum crassum (1.7%) and one not identified (1.7%). The frequency distribution of parasites showed a typical pattern in which 39 birds (65%) were either not parasitized or were harbouring up to five worms, whereas more intense infestations occurred in a lesser number of hosts. Compared to other studies from central and eastern Europe, an extremely depauperate helminth community, particularly of the cestodes and nematodes, was found. Polymorphus minutus was observed as having highly variable morphology and, therefore, molecular genetic characterization by DNA barcoding was carried out.   • Chaplaincy services form a vital complement for secular societal institutions which must accommodate spiritual needs, including but not limited to, hospitals, armed forces, and prisons. Yet cultures within societal institutions and churches or faith organizations are fundamentally different. The purpose of this article is to present a conceptual, methodological and occupational discussion around Swedish pastors and deacons serving as specialised chaplains in societal contexts. A narrative analysis coupled with the concept of an I-position (from the framework of Dialogical Self Theory) are presented as a useful methodology for advancing the understanding of pastors and deacons who navigate culturally contrasting identities as chaplains. The article draws from two recent studies and illustrates the methodology through case study examples of both hospital and military chaplains. This approach may be relevant to any chaplain who traverses culturally contrasting terrain and may encounter identity change or challenge. MM-PBSA analysis showed that the amount of binding free energy for ZINC35466084 (-61.26 KJ mol-1) is more potent than PF-04859989 (-43.14 KJ mol-1). Furthermore, the ADME analysis results revealed that the pharmacokinetic parameters of ZINC35466084 are acceptable for human use. We obtained qualitative data from a series of semi-structured key informant interviews with 19 subject matter experts, using content analysis to identify themes across four domains main challenges, unique impacts by subpopulation, coping strategies, and interventions and recommendations. The key informants we interviewed identified a variety of acute and chronic stressors, including several that are structural, rather than individual and interpersonal, and which lie outside of the control of farmers themselves. They also highlighted diversity within farm populations by socio-demographic and farm characteristics as well as positive and negative coping strategies, with negative being more common. For interventions and recommendations, they stressed the importance of education on mental health, improving access to care, and addressing root causes of stress. While farmer stress is well-documented, less is known about the perspectives of farm service professionals and mental health providers who care for them. The insights from this study add important information on how to best support the immediate and long-term mental health needs of farmers and farm families in the U.S. Midwest and beyond.Ceftolozane/tazobactam (C/T), a cephalosporin/beta-lactamase inhibitor combination, was evaluated in vitro vs. 10 comparators against 299 pediatric extended-spectrum-cephalosporin-resistant or carbapenem-resistant (ESC-R/CR) Gram-negative Enterobacteriaceae from three freestanding pediatric centers. Isolates were from urine or other sterile sites of children and adolescents through 21 years of age. Susceptibilities were assayed by microbroth dilution via custom Sensititre plates (Thermo Fisher Scientific). Susceptibility was determined using the Sensititre Vizion® system (Thermo Fisher Scientific). Susceptibility breakpoint criteria were those of the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) for 2017, except for colistin (EUCAST 2019). Overall, 87.5% isolates were C/T susceptible (MIC ≤2 μg/ml; MIC50/90, 0.25/4 μg/ml). Susceptibility to C/T was detected more frequently as compared to all other antimicrobials tested except for colistin (95.4%) and meropenem (97.4%). Percent susceptibility to C/T was high for E. coli (91%) and Klebsiella spp. (73.3%). Orientation changes are seen in concentration dependent SERS spectra. The molecular electrostatic potential has also been constructed to determine the electron rich and poor site of CHTB. The molecular docking studies indicate that the binding affinity and hydrogen bond interactions with the receptors may be supporting evidence for further studies in designing other pharmaceutical applications of CHTB.

While large droplets and surface contamination can be relatively easier to deal with (i.e., using mask and proper hygiene measures), aerosol presents a different challenge due to their ability to remain airborne for a long time. This calls for mitigation solutions that can rapidly eliminate the airborne aerosol. Pre-COVID-19, air ionizers have been touted as effective tools to eliminate small particulates. In this work, we sought to evaluate the efficacy of a novel plant-based ionizer in eliminating aerosol. It was found that factors such as the ion concentration, humidity, and ventilation can drastically affect the efficacy of aerosol removal. The aerosol removal rate was quantified in terms of ACH (air changes per hour) and CADR- (clean air delivery rate-) equivalent unit, with ACH as high as 12 and CADR as high as 141 ft3/minute being achieved by a plant-based ionizer in a small isolated room. After evaluating scMappR with simulated RNA-seq data and benchmarking scMappR using RNA-seq data obtained from sorted blood cells, we asked if scMappR could reveal known cell-type specific changes that occur during kidney regeneration. scMappR appropriately assigned DEGs to cell-types involved in kidney regeneration, including a relatively small population of immune cells. While scMappR can work with user-supplied scRNA-seq data, we curated scRNA-seq expression matrices for ∼100 human and mouse tissues to facilitate its stand-alone use with bulk RNA-seq data from these species. Overall, scMappR is a user-friendly R package that complements traditional differential gene expression analysis of bulk RNA-seq data.

While large droplets and surface contamination can be relatively easier to deal with (i.e., using mask and proper hygiene measures), aerosol presents a different challenge due to their ability to remain airborne for a long time. This calls for mitigation solutions that can rapidly eliminate the airborne aerosol. Pre-COVID-19, air ionizers have been touted as effective tools to eliminate small particulates. In this work, we sought to evaluate the efficacy of a novel plant-based ionizer in eliminating aerosol. It was found that factors such as the ion concentration, humidity, and ventilation can drastically affect the efficacy of aerosol removal. The aerosol removal rate was quantified in terms of ACH (air changes per hour) and CADR- (clean air delivery rate-) equivalent unit, with ACH as high as 12 and CADR as high as 141 ft3/minute being achieved by a plant-based ionizer in a small isolated room. Different kinds of arterial carbon dioxide tension (PaCO2), including time-weighted mean PaCO2, mean PaCO2, admission PaCO2 and proportion of time spent in four PaCO2 categories (hypocapnia, normocapnia, mild hypercapnia, and severe hypercapnia) were used to explore the association with outcomes. Restricted cubic splines models were built to evaluate the association between PaCO2 and odds ratio for hospital mortality in overall population and subgroups of different pH levels (acidosis, normal pH and alkalosis). RESULTS 2783 post-cardiac arrest patients in 150 ICUs were included. 933 (33.5%) were classified into the hypocapnia (PaCO2 55 mmHg) group. Compared with normocapnia, mild hypercapnia was not associated with higher hospital survival probability (OR 1.08 [95% CI 0.84-1.38, p = 0.558]). Time spent in the normocapnia was associated with good outcome (OR 0.98 [95% CI 0.97-0.99, p  less then  0.001], for every 5 percentage point increase in time), but mild hypercapnia was not (OR 1 [95% CI 0.98-1.01, p = 0.542]). Cox-proportional hazards models supported these findings. Associations between PaCO2 and hospital mortality were not statistically significant in normal pH and alkalosis subgroups. CONCLUSIONS PaCO2 has a U-shaped association with odds ratio for hospital mortality, with mild hypercapnia not having a higher hospital survival probability than normocapnia in post-cardiac arrest patients.

RESULTS 2783 post-cardiac arrest patients in 150 ICUs were included. 933 (33.5%) were classified into the hypocapnia (PaCO2 55 mmHg) group. Compared with normocapnia, mild hypercapnia was not associated with higher hospital survival probability (OR 1.08 [95% CI 0.84-1.38, p = 0.558]). Time spent in the normocapnia was associated with good outcome (OR 0.98 [95% CI 0.97-0.99, p  less then  0.001], for every 5 percentage point increase in time), but mild hypercapnia was not (OR 1 [95% CI 0.98-1.01, p = 0.542]). Cox-proportional hazards models supported these findings. Associations between PaCO2 and hospital mortality were not statistically significant in normal pH and alkalosis subgroups. CONCLUSIONS PaCO2 has a U-shaped association with odds ratio for hospital mortality, with mild hypercapnia not having a higher hospital survival probability than normocapnia in post-cardiac arrest patients.

Different kinds of arterial carbon dioxide tension (PaCO2), including time-weighted mean PaCO2, mean PaCO2, admission PaCO2 and proportion of time spent in four PaCO2 categories (hypocapnia, normocapnia, mild hypercapnia, and severe hypercapnia) were used to explore the association with outcomes. Restricted cubic splines models were built to evaluate the association between PaCO2 and odds ratio for hospital mortality in overall population and subgroups of different pH levels (acidosis, normal pH and alkalosis). To inform future research an online survey was carried out to identify variations in brachytherapy and support available to women receiving treatment for locally advanced cervical cancer (LACC).

    An online survey was sent to 44 UK brachytherapy centres using the Qualtrics® survey platform. It included questions about brachytherapy scheduling, inpatient/day case treatment, anaesthetic/analgesia, non-pharmacological support and health professionals' opinions regarding holistic care. A mixture of closed questions with pre-specified options and open questions were employed. Descriptive statistics were generated to identify variance in UK practice. Free text responses were analysed using inductive content analysis.

    Responses were received from 39/43 eligible centres (91% response rate). The automated method of synthesizing chiral α-bromocarboxylic acids was efficient and safe because the rate of the dropwise addition of the reagent can be controlled using the automated synthesizer. An altered microbial metabolite profile plays a direct role in CRC metabolism. Furthermore, diet plays an essential role in the risk of gastrointestinal cancer development. High‑fiber diets regulate the gut microbiome and reduce the risk of CRC development, and may be fruitful in the better management of therapeutics. In the present review, the current status of the microbiome in CRC development is discussed.12.Mineral dust‑induced gene (mdig) is a novel lung cancer‑related oncogene. The aim of this study was to explore the effects of mdig on angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis by vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in lung adenocarcinoma. mdig‑overexpressing A549, H1299 and 293T cells, mdig‑silenced A549, human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and human lymphatic endothelial cells (HLECs) were cultured under normoxic and hypoxic conditions. Protein expression levels of mdig, epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), phospho(p)‑EGFR Tyr1068, hypoxia‑inducible factor‑1α (HIF‑1α), VEGF‑A/C/D and VEGF‑R1/R2/R3 were assessed using western blotting. mRNA expression levels of mdig, EGFR and HIF‑1α were measured using RT‑qPCR. Tube formation and xenograft tumor experiments were performed to examine the mechanism of mdig in angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis. Protein expression levels of EGFR, HIF‑1α and VEGF‑A/C/D were significantly upregulated in cells cultured under hypoxic conditions compared with those culnd HIF‑1α inhibitor treated mdig‑silenced cells. The aim of the present study was to investigate the underlying mechanism of miR‑320a‑3p as a potential therapeutic target for PF. Clinical samples and microarray datasets collected from various databases were used to evaluate the expression of miR‑320a‑3p in PF. A549 cells were used to construct an EMT model of PF. Western blotting was performed to detect the expression of each protein in the relevant system. It was found that naringin can significantly improve cognitive, learning and memory dysfunction in mice with hydrocortisone memory impairment. In addition, naringin can exert neuroprotective effects through a variety of mechanisms, including amyloid β metabolism, Tau protein hyperphosphorylation, acetylcholinergic system, glutamate receptor system, oxidative stress and cell apoptosis. Clinical samples and microarray datasets collected from various databases were used to evaluate the expression of miR‑320a‑3p in PF. A549 cells were used to construct an EMT model of PF. Persons experiencing psychiatric emergencies must be evaluated medically and screened for risks of harm to self or others before they can be cleared for transfer to inpatient units or discharged. Severe shortages of inpatient psychiatric beds can lead to hours or even days of costly boarding in the ED. The purpose of this article is to examine the potential role of psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioners in psychiatric ED care, from initial intake and medical clearance, screening for suicide risk, de-escalation, stabilization, and discharge. Groups with grossly normal (NORM) femoral heads and cull birds with FHN and having gross signs of sepsis (Cull-FHN) were also included in the study. Most positive cultures (33%) were found in the Cull-FHN group, while only a 12% occurrence was seen in the FHS group, and no positives were present in the FHT or FHN groups. A 14% total occurrence of femoral bacterial chondronecrosis with osteomyelitis or simple osteomyelitis (BCO-O) was observed. A progressive increase in the prevalence of BCO-O was apparent between groups going from NORM (0%), FHS (4%), FHT (14%), FHN (13%), and reaching a maximum of 67% in the Cull-FHN group. Samples were stored under different moisture conditions (dry = 2% moisture, moist = 22%-71% moisture) and temperatures (-20, 4, 25, and 37 C) for different durations (0, 7, and 14 days, and 1, 2, 3, and 4 mo) in a factorial arrangement, followed by quantitative PCR for detection of virus genome copies (GC). The length of storage, moisture level, and storage temperature affected the viral genome load for ILTV and IBV but did not affect the number of positive samples for each virus.

We report two patients with extremity desmoid tumor who were each found at MRI to have an unsuspected pseudoaneurysm within their tumor after prior treatments (surgery and systemic therapy in one, surgery alone in the other). Such a pseudoaneurysm probably results from weakening of an arterial wall by adjacent desmoid tumor, as well as from local trauma. Due to the potential risk for life-threatening rupture of a pseudoaneurysm, one patient underwent surgical repair and the other, coil embolization. To our knowledge the presence of pseudoaneurysm has been reported within a few cases of abdominal desmoid tumor but not within an extremity desmoid tumor. This diagnosis has not been reported to have been made at MRI, either.Following the detection of the first imported case of COVID-19 in the northern sector of Ghana, we molecularly characterized and phylogenetically analysed sequences, including three complete genome sequences, of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 obtained from nine patients in Ghana. We performed high-throughput sequencing on nine samples that were found to have a high concentration of viral RNA. We also assessed the potential impact that long-distance transport of samples to testing centres may have on sequencing results. Here, two samples that were similar in terms of viral RNA concentration but were transported from sites that are over 400 km apart were analyzed. All sequences were compared to previous sequences from Ghana and representative sequences from regions where our patients had previously travelled. Three complete genome sequences and another nearly complete genome sequence with 95.6% coverage were obtained. Sequences with coverage in excess of 80% were found to belong to three lineages, namely A, B.1 and B.2. Our sequences clustered in two different clades, with the majority falling within a clade composed of sequences from sub-Saharan Africa. Less RNA fragmentation was seen in sample KATH23, which was collected 9 km from the testing site, than in sample TTH6, which was collected and transported over a distance of 400 km to the testing site. The clustering of several sequences from sub-Saharan Africa suggests regional circulation of the viruses in the subregion. Importantly, there may be a need to decentralize testing sites and build more capacity across Africa to boost the sequencing output of the subregion.
    The present study aimed to investigate the effect of age on circulating pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines and growth factors. A secondary aim was to investigate whether a novel sprint interval training (SIT) intervention (3 × 20s 'all out' static sprints, twice a week for 8weeks) would affect inflammatory markers in older men.

    Nine older men [68 (1) years] and eleven younger men [28 (2) years] comprised the younger group. Aerobic fitness and inflammatory markers were taken at baseline for both groups and following the SIT intervention for the older group.

    To evaluate the clinical and radiographic results of AR/IF and meniscus repair for treating lateral meniscus (LM) tears associated with lateral tibial plateau fractures and to identify the factors associated with LM tear.

    Forty-two patients with lateral plateau fractures (Schatzker types II and III) treated by AR/IF were included retrospectively. Radiographic evaluations using the Rasmussen system and computerized tomography (CT) were performed. Clinical evaluations were also conducted at final follow-up. Second-look arthroscopy was applied during metal removal.

    All fractures were healed after 46.3months of follow-up. The mean Tegner activity level was not decreased significantly, going from 7.1 ± 2.1 pre-injury to 6.6 ± 2.3 at final follow-up (p = 0.301). Importantly, there may be a need to decentralize testing sites and build more capacity across Africa to boost the sequencing output of the subregion. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of age on circulating pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines and growth factors. A secondary aim was to investigate whether a novel sprint interval training (SIT) intervention (3 × 20s 'all out' static sprints, twice a week for 8weeks) would affect inflammatory markers in older men. To evaluate the clinical and radiographic results of AR/IF and meniscus repair for treating lateral meniscus (LM) tears associated with lateral tibial plateau fractures and to identify the factors associated with LM tear. Forty-two patients with lateral plateau fractures (Schatzker types II and III) treated by AR/IF were included retrospectively. Radiographic evaluations using the Rasmussen system and computerized tomography (CT) were performed. Clinical evaluations were also conducted at final follow-up. Second-look arthroscopy was applied during metal removal. All fractures were healed after 46.3months of follow-up. The mean Tegner activity level was not decreased significantly, going from 7.1 ± 2.1 pre-injury to 6.6 ± 2.3 at final follow-up (p = 0.301).   • Ion mobility-mass spectrometry (IM-MS) has gained increased applications in the characterization and identification of drugs and drug metabolites, largely owning to the complementary separation of analyte ions based on their gas-phase size and shape in the IM dimension in addition to their mass-to-charge ratios. In this review, we discuss recent advances in such applications. We first introduce various types of IM techniques, focusing on those that allow the measurement of collision cross section (CCS), the physical property of an ion that reflects its gas-phase size and shape. Next, we discuss the IM-MS landscape of the large chemical space of drugs and multimodal distributions of certain drugs in IM separation due to the presence of protomers. We then review drug metabolism reactions and discuss the application of IM-MS in separation and identification of isomeric drug metabolites. Subsequently, we discuss various approaches to generate theoretical and predicted CCS data, including theory-based calculation methods and data-driven prediction models, and currently available resources on these approaches. Finally, current limitations and future directions of application of IM-MS are discussed.Herein, for the first time, o-benzoyl benzoic acid has been explored as a promising electroactive material for the fabrication of sensitive, precise and accurate carbon paste electrode (CPE) for selective detection of Cr (III) ion. o-benzoyl benzoic acid (o-BBA) as a sensing material and tricresylphosphate (TCP) as a solvent mediator improved the developed sensor performance to get the Nernstian cationic slope of 20.03 ± 0.11 mV decade-1 within the concentration range of 5.0 × 10-7-1.0 × 10-1 mol L-1. The sensor displayed a fast response time of 12 s reflecting a pH independency over the pH range of 3.1-4.7. Moreover, the reaction between the sensing material and Cr (III) ion on the developed sensor surface was elucidated using the microscopic technique such as scanning electron microscope (SEM) in addition to the energy dispersive X-ray analyzer (EDX). The proposed sensor showed an adequate shelf lifetime (∼33 days). The method is translatable to any laboratory with access to liquid chromatography - tandem mass spectrometry. The method exploits isotope-dilution mass spectrometry for absolute quantification of target metabolites. The method is applicable for semi-quantification of other sterols for which isotope labelled surrogates are not available and approximate quantification of partially identified sterols. Values are reported for non-esterified sterols in the absence of saponification and total sterols following saponification. In this way absolute quantification data is reported for 17 sterols in the NIST SRM 1950 plasma along with semi-quantitative data for 8 additional sterols and approximate quantification for one further sterol. In a pooled (CSF) sample used for internal quality control, absolute quantification was performed on 10 sterols, semi-quantification on 9 sterols and approximate quantification on a further three partially identified sterols. The limit of detection is determined to be down to 4.2 × 10-12 M for rhodamine 6G. Furthermore, the Au NS monolayer can detect multiple molecules, including thiabendazole, methylene blue, 4-mercaptobenzoic acid, and p-amino thiophenol, indicating that the SERS substrate composed of Au NS monolayer has potential applications in analytical chemistry, food safety, and environmental safety.
