Malaria remains a serious public health problem in Cameroon. Implementation of control interventions requires prior knowledge of the local epidemiological situation. Here we report the results of epidemiological and entomological surveys carried out in Tibati, Adamawa Region, Cameroon, an area where malaria transmission is seasonal, 6years after the introduction of long-lasting insecticidal bed nets.
Cross-sectional studies were carried out in July 2015 and 2017 in Tibati. Thick blood smears and dried blood spots were collected from asymptomatic and symptomatic individuals in the community and at health centers, respectively, and used for the molecular diagnosis of Plasmodium species. Adult mosquitoes were collected by indoor residual spraying and identified morphologically and molecularly. The infection status of Plasmodium spp. was determined by quantitative PCR, and positivity of PCR-positive samples was confirmed by Sanger sequencing.
Overall malaria prevalence in our study population was 55.0% (752he first time a mosquito vector with naturally acquired P. vivax infection in Cameroon.Over the past two decades, the National Drug Abuse Treatment Clinical Trials Network (CTN), a program of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), has expanded from the initial six Nodes to 16 Nodes, as a nationwide consortium of research scientists and treatment providers working together to improve care for substance use in the nation's communities. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/telacebec-q203.html Encompassing both specialty care programs and general medical settings, the Network has become a unique resource for expertise on clinically focused research, bridging the gap between research and treatment delivery. Over 22 years, the CTN has completed 101 studies, resulting in 650 publications. In response to the opioid epidemic, a CTN task force generated a comprehensive list of research priorities in the areas of prevention, treatment, knowledge dissemination, and workforce training, to form the basis of the Network's opioid portfolio. The Network's opioid portfolio currently includes five main categories of studies (1) large multi-site studies; (2) studies aimed at closing the treatment gap; (3) expansion of ongoing studies to improve service delivery and implementation; (4) studies to explore the use of substance use data in electronic health record systems; (5) training and dissemination projects to expand the research/health care provider workforce. With funding from the Helping to End Addiction Long-Term InitiativeSM (HEAL), the CTN established five new Nodes, which, along with the pre-existing Nodes, are distributed in every region of the nation and engage researchers and clinicians in areas that have been among the hardest hit by the opioid epidemic. Through this expanded network and its commitment to developing personalized, evidence-based treatments, the CTN is poised to address and provide solutions for the ongoing epidemic of opioid use and addiction.
Tarlov cysts are a commonly misdiagnosed condition, which can present with many rare symptoms. We report a case of a Tarlov cyst with spermatorrhea and review the pertinent literature.
A 42-year-old male patient had a history of spermatorrhea for > 10years, but was incorrectly diagnosed as the patient and the doctors consistently mistook the symptoms for a genitourinary disease. Magnetic resonance imaging showed that two cysts in the sacral canal. The diagnosis was Tarlov cyst. We performed surgery to remove the cyst and the symptoms of spermatorrhea disappeared after the operation.
This case demonstrates that orthopedics and urologists should improve their understanding of Tarlov cysts to avoid misdiagnosis and mistreatment.

The purpose of the current study is to report the anatomical and functional results of off-label human amniotic membrane graft as primary intervention to repair large to giant macular holes and in reoperations when wide internal limiting membrane peeling was unsuccessful.
Retrospective chart review was carried out in five different centers to identify all cases that had undergone off-label human amniotic membrane graft for the treatment of large or failed macular holes (MH). Data collected included age, gender, other concomitant diagnosis, symptoms duration, lens status, number of previous surgeries, macular hole measurements (minimum and base linear diameters), mean post-operative follow-up (months), and pre- and post-operative best corrected visual acuity (BCVA). Main outcome measures were anatomical MH closure rates and final BCVA (in logMAR). Nonparametric Wilcoxon rank-sum test was used because the data was not normally distributed, a P values < 0.05 were considered statistically significant.
Ninfirm our preliminary results of this new surgical technique.An increase in global violence has forced the displacement of more than 70 million people, including 26 million refugees and 3.5 asylum seekers. Refugees and asylum seekers face serious socioeconomic and healthcare barriers and are therefore particularly vulnerable to physical and mental health risks, which are sometimes exacerbated by immigration policies and local social discriminations. Calls for a strong evidence base for humanitarian action have encouraged conducting research to address the barriers and needs of refugees and asylum seekers. Given the role of epigenetics factors to mediate the effect of psychological and environmental exposures, epigenetic modifications have been used as biomarkers for life adversity and disease states. Therefore, epigenetic research can be potentially beneficial to address some of the issues associated with refugees and asylum seekers. Here, we review the value of previous and ongoing epigenetic studies with traumatized populations, explore some of the ethical challenges associated with epigenetic research with refugees and asylees and offer suggestions to address or mitigate some of these challenges. Researchers have an ethical responsibility to implement strategies to minimize the harms and maximize the short and long-term benefits to refugee and asylee participants.

Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), based in the psychological flexibility model, may benefit people with chronic abdominal pain. The current study preliminarily investigates associations between psychological flexibility processes and daily general, social and emotional functioning in chronic abdominal pain.
An online survey comprising measures of psychological flexibility processes and daily functioning was distributed through social media.
In total, 89 participants with chronic abdominal pain were included in the analyses.
All investigated psychological flexibility processes significantly correlated with pain interference, work and social adjustment, and depression, in the expected directions (|r| = .35-.68). Only pain acceptance significantly correlated with gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms, r = -.25. After adjusting for pain in the analyses, pain acceptance remained significantly associated with all outcomes, |β| = .28-.56, but depression. After adjusting for pain and pain acceptance, only cognitive fusion remained significantly associated with anxiety, β = -.27, and depression, β = .43. When contrasting GI-specific anxiety with psychological flexibility processes, pain acceptance was uniquely associated with pain-related interference and work and social adjustment, and cognitive fusion and committed action were uniquely associated with depression.
Psychological flexibility processes were positively associated with daily functioning in people with chronic abdominal pain. ACT may provide benefit for these people. Further studies with experimental designs are needed to examine the utility of ACT for people with abdominal pain.

This article describes the development and initial evaluation of introducing a psychologist role within an adult inpatient pain service (IPS) in a large North West of England National Health Service (NHS) trust.
The role of a psychologist in the management of outpatient chronic pain has been well documented, but their role within the IPS is less well described and rarely evaluated. We describe the development of a psychologist role within the team and initial service evaluation outcomes.
Following an initial needs assessment, a band 8c psychologist joined the IPS one day per week offering brief one-to-one psychological interventions to people struggling with acute or chronic pain in hospital referred by inpatient pain team. The psychologist had an indirect role offering training, supervision and support to members of the inpatient pain team. Regarding direct patient work, following psychometric screening for pain-related disability and distress, a cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) approach was appliedhe psychologist became a valuable member of the multi-disciplinary IPS team, offering brief direct and indirect psychological interventions. While a relatively small sample, our prospective service evaluation data suggest brief psychological intervention may contribute to reduced length of stay and hospital admissions for people experiencing pain-related distress in hospital.
Assessment of outcomes from health interventions are of increasing importance, primarily to identify effective and safe treatment, but also to justify funding decisions. The Bath Adolescent Pain Questionnaire (BAPQ) is a self-report questionnaire, validated in 11-18 year olds, assessing the impact of pain in multiple domains of adolescent life. The similarly validated Bath Adolescent Pain Questionnaire for Parents (BAPQ-P) uses the same domains as the BAPQ, assessing the functioning and development of the adolescent from the parents' perspective.
We conducted a prospective study, planning to routinely collect BAPQ/BAPQ-P data at initial assessment and 6 months later. All patients aged between 5 and 19 attending our chronic pain clinic for the first time between December 2009 and December 2014 were mailed BAPQ and BAPQ-P questionnaires before the first appointment and 6 months after the first appointment.
In total, 376 of 386 families returned questionnaires at time 0 and 96 after 6 months, 26% of those easurement proved useful tools to assess response to pain management input in adolescents over a 6-month period. Our experience and results suggest that these tools can, with appropriate administrative support, be used in routine clinical practice to assess patient outcomes. We also believe that BAPQ and BAPQ-P measurements have a utility to audit pain clinic activity and potentially a use in demonstrating beneficial outcomes to commissioners.
To explore the effects of a hypnotic communication (HC) training for paediatric nurses in decreasing patients' pain and distress during venipunctures.
A 4-day theoretical and practical HC training was offered to five paediatric oncology nurses. The effects of HC were tested with 22 young cancer patients (13 girls, 9 boys, 10 ± 4 years) over four time points, with 88 encounters being video-recorded and coded in stable professional-patient dyads. Patients' pain and distress were rated by patients and parents with visual analogue scales and coded from recordings using the Faces, Legs, Activity, Cry and Consolability (FLACC) scale.
We observed a significant decrease in pre-post distress reported by parents (
= 0.45,

However, when these pairwise similarities are distributed around the mean value, the clustering algorithm becomes indecisive when choosing what database pairs are considered eligible to be grouped together. Consequently, a trivial result is produced by putting all the n databases in one cluster or by returning n singleton clusters. To tackle the latter problem, we propose a learning algorithm to reduce the fuzziness of the similarity matrix by minimizing a weighted binary entropy loss function via gradient descent and ****-propagation. As a result, the learned model will improve the certainty of the clustering algorithm by correctly identifying the optimal database clusters. Additionally, in contrast to gradient-based clustering algorithms, which are sensitive to the choice of the learning rate and require more iterations to converge, we propose a learning-rate-free algorithm to assess the candidate clusterings generated on the fly in fewer upper-bounded iterations. To achieve our goal, we use coordinate descent (CD) and ****-propagation to search for the optimal clustering of the n multiple database in a way that minimizes a convex clustering quality measure L(θ) in less than (n2-n)/2 iterations. By using a max-heap data structure within our CD algorithm, we optimally choose the largest weight variable θp,q(i) at each iteration i such that taking the partial derivative of L(θ) with respect to θp,q(i) allows us to attain the next steepest descent minimizing L(θ) without using a learning rate. Among the 13 human aquaporins, AQP3 and AQP5 were shown to be significantly upregulated in breast cancer indicating their role in the development of this malignancy. To tackle the latter problem, we propose a learning algorithm to reduce the fuzziness of the similarity matrix by minimizing a weighted binary entropy loss function via gradient descent and back-propagation. As a result, the learned model will improve the certainty of the clustering algorithm by correctly identifying the optimal database clusters. Additionally, in contrast to gradient-based clustering algorithms, which are sensitive to the choice of the learning rate and require more iterations to converge, we propose a learning-rate-free algorithm to assess the candidate clusterings generated on the fly in fewer upper-bounded iterations. To achieve our goal, we use coordinate descent (CD) and back-propagation to search for the optimal clustering of the n multiple database in a way that minimizes a convex clustering quality measure L(θ) in less than (n2-n)/2 iterations. With the recent progress in deep learning techniques, Autoencoder was used to integrate multi-omics data for extracting representative features. Nevertheless, the generated model is fragile from data noises. Additionally, previous studies usually focused on individual cancer types without making comprehensive tests on pan-cancer. Here, we employed the denoising Autoencoder to get a robust representation of the multi-omics data, and then used the learned representative features to estimate patients' risks.

Regionalization of rectal cancer surgery may lead to worse disease free survival owing to longer travel time to reach a high volume center yet no study has evaluated this relationship at a single high volume center volume center.
This was a retrospective review of rectal cancer patients undergoing surgery from 2009 to 2019 at a single high volume center. Patients were divided into two groups based on travel time. The primary outcome was disease-free survival (DFS). Additional outcomes included treatment within 60 d of diagnosis, completeness of preoperative staging, and evaluation by a colorectal surgeon prior to initiation of treatment.
A lower proportion of patients with long travel time began definitive treatment within 60 d of diagnosis (74.0% versus 84.0%, P= 0.01) or were seen by the treating colorectal surgeon before beginning definitive treatment (74.8% versus 85.4%, P < 0.01). On multivariable logistic regression analysis, patients with long travel time were significantly less likely to begin definitive treatment within 60 d of diagnosis (OR=0.54; 95% CI=0.31-0.93) or to be evaluated by a colorectal surgeon prior to initiating treatment (OR=0.45; 95% CI=0.25-0.80). There were no significant differences in DFS based on travel time.
Although patients with long travel times may be vulnerable to delayed, lower quality rectal cancer care, there is no difference in DFS when definitive surgery is performed at a high volume canter. Ongoing research is needed to identify explanations for delays in treatment to ensure all patients receive the highest quality care.

The "one-pot" method is the most prevalent methamphetamine synthesis method and is a modified Birch reduction, reducing pseudoephedrine with lithium and ammonia gas generated in situ. This research examined the amount of methamphetamine surface contamination generated by one-pot syntheses or "cooks", as well as the effectiveness of hosing with water as a simplified decontamination technique, to assess associated public health and environmental consequences. Concentrations of methamphetamine contamination were examined prior to production, after production, and after decontamination with water. Contamination was qualitatively field screened using lateral flow immunoassays and quantitatively assessed using a fluorescence covalent microbead immunosorbent assay. Following screening, 0 of 23 pre-cook samples, 29 of 41 post-cook samples, and 5 of 27 post-decontamination samples were positive. To this extent EES continues the tradition to honor the most cited papers contributing to the 2020 Impact Factor (IF) ("Highly and most cited topics") and provide information on the current status of EES as well as an outlook to 2021 ("Progress report").Endometrial cancer (EC) is a multi-factorial disease of which pathogenesis has not been fully elucidated. The function and underlying mechanism of microRNA-20a-5p (miR-20a-5p) in EC remain poorly understood. The present study aimed to analyze the association between miR-20a-5p expression and the clinicopathological characteristics of patients with EC. Whether miR-20a-5p could inhibit EC progression by targeting janus kinase 1 (Jak1) was subsequently investigated. To do so, human EC tissues and paracancerous tissues were collected from 47 patients with EC. miR-20a-5p and Jak1 mRNA and protein expression was determined by reverse transcription quantitative PCR and western blotting, respectively. Cell proliferation, invasive ability and adhesion were investigated by MTT, Matrigel invasion and cell adhesion assays, respectively. Dual luciferase reporter assay was used to verify whether miR-20a-5p could directly target Jak1. The results demonstrated that miR-20a-5p was downregulated and that Jak1 was upregulated in EC tissues compared with paracancerous tissues. In addition, miR-20a-5p expression and Jak1 expression level were negatively correlated in EC tissues. miR-20a-5p expression was also significantly associated with the depth of myometrial invasion, FIGO stage, histologic grade and lymph node metastasis in patients with EC. Furthermore, Jak1 was identified as a new direct target of miR-20a-5p, and Jak1 overexpression was demonstrated to reverse the effects of miR-20a-5p-mimic on EC cell proliferation, invasive ability and adhesion. Taken together, the results from this study revealed for the first time that miR-20a-5p expression was significantly associated with the clinicopathological characteristics of patients with EC. These findings suggested that miR-20a-5p may act as a tumor suppressor in EC, in part through decreasing Jak1 expression. miR-20a-5p and Jak1 may therefore serve as potential therapeutic targets in EC.

By understanding the amount of surface contamination generated by common methods of one-pot methamphetamine production and the effectiveness of decontamination techniques used to remediate them, health risks associated with these production sites can be better understood and environmental contamination can be mitigated.The present editorial 2020 continues the series of status reports in Environmental Earth Sciences (EES) in previous years 2017 and 2019 (Kolditz et al. in Environ Earth Sci 77 8, 2018, Kolditz et al. in Environ Earth Sci 79 11, 2020). The year 2020 coming to an end was heavily influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic affecting all areas of life including research work and, therefore, scientific publishing as well ("Introduction"). One bright spot which shows longevity of journals that produce a quality product is that Environmental Earth Sciences (EES) is celebrating its 45th anniversary of publication. To this extent EES continues the tradition to honor the most cited papers contributing to the 2020 Impact Factor (IF) ("Highly and most cited topics") and provide information on the current status of EES as well as an outlook to 2021 ("Progress report").Endometrial cancer (EC) is a multi-factorial disease of which pathogenesis has not been fully elucidated. The function and underlying mechanism of microRNA-20a-5p (miR-20a-5p) in EC remain poorly understood. The present study aimed to analyze the association between miR-20a-5p expression and the clinicopathological characteristics of patients with EC. Whether miR-20a-5p could inhibit EC progression by targeting janus kinase 1 (Jak1) was subsequently investigated. To do so, human EC tissues and paracancerous tissues were collected from 47 patients with EC. miR-20a-5p and Jak1 mRNA and protein expression was determined by reverse transcription quantitative PCR and western blotting, respectively. Cell proliferation, invasive ability and adhesion were investigated by MTT, Matrigel invasion and cell adhesion assays, respectively. Dual luciferase reporter assay was used to verify whether miR-20a-5p could directly target Jak1. The results demonstrated that miR-20a-5p was downregulated and that Jak1 was upregulated in EC tissues compared with paracancerous tissues. In addition, miR-20a-5p expression and Jak1 expression level were negatively correlated in EC tissues. miR-20a-5p expression was also significantly associated with the depth of myometrial invasion, FIGO stage, histologic grade and lymph node metastasis in patients with EC. Furthermore, Jak1 was identified as a new direct target of miR-20a-5p, and Jak1 overexpression was demonstrated to reverse the effects of miR-20a-5p-mimic on EC cell proliferation, invasive ability and adhesion. Taken together, the results from this study revealed for the first time that miR-20a-5p expression was significantly associated with the clinicopathological characteristics of patients with EC. In order to deliver effective personalized interventions to those suffer from chronic conditions social determinants of health must be considered. Therefore, psychosocial phenotyping holds strong promise as a tool for tailoring interventions based on precision health principles.
To define psychosocial phenotyping and develop a research agenda that promotes its integration into chronic disease management as a tool for precision self-management interventions.
Since psychosocial phenotyping is not yet used in interventions for self-management support, we conducted a literature review to identify potential phenotypes for chronic disease self-management. We also reviewed policy intervention case reports from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to examine factors related to social determinants of health in people with chronic illnesses. Finally, we reviewed methodological approaches for identify implications for future research.
To compare the safety and efficacy of self-expandable stents (SES) and balloon-mounted stents (BMS) in the treatment of severe symptomatic intracranial vertebral artery atherosclerotic stenosis (SIVAAS).
The clinical and imaging data of 76 consecutive cases who were stented for SIVAAS in our centers in ten years were reviewed retrospectively. The cases were divided into SES group and BMS group as per the type of stents. Conventional risk factors of atherosclerosis, the relationship between stenosis and the origin of posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA), whether the stenosis was located at the dural-entry zone of the vertebral artery (VA), the interventional access, periprocedural complications, and clinical and imaging follow-up results were analyzed statistically.

Individuals with IBD have significant increased risk of gastrointestinal and extra-intestinal malignancies, particularly, colorectal cancer (CRC) and lymphomas. Among the significant areas of exploration in IBD and its associated-CRC is the search for effective and reliable diagnostic and prognostic markers, and treatment targets. To this effect, the role of non-coding RNAs in IBD and its associated-CRC has attracted research attention, among which microRNAs (miRNAs) and long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) get more detailed exploration while little is known about circular RNAs (circRNAs). This review focuses on the emerging role of circRNAs in the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of IBD and its associated-CRC. It introduces the biogenesis of circRNAs and brings an up-to-date report on those found within IBD and CRC environment, as well as their participation toward the promotion or suppression of the conditions, and their diagnostic potentials.
Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) plays an important role in the therapeutic strategy of locally advanced gastric cancer (LAGC). However, the response of LAGC after NAC varies among different patients. The objective response after NAC has proven to be an excellent indicator for benefiting from NAC, yet effective predictors of objective response are still lacking. The present study aimed to identify potential predictors of objective response in LAGC patients treated with NAC.
Clinicopathological data from 267 patients with LAGC who received NAC and met the inclusion criteria between July 2009 and December 2018 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients were randomly divided into the training and test sets at a 21 ratio. Univariate analysis was used to investigate whether any factors were correlated with objective response in the training set. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was applied to find independent predictors. A risk score model was then constructed based on the independent predictors, and its performance in predicting objective response was validated in the test set.

Due to its ability to arrest untreated dental caries, silver diamine fluoride (SDF) has been advocated for indirect pulp capping procedures. However, the high concentrations of silver and fluoride in SDF raise concerns about its biocompatibility to pulpal tissues.
This study aimed to investigate the effect of SDF on the viability, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, and morphology of pulpal-like cells (RPC-C2A) and to evaluate the influence of reduced glutathione (GSH) on SDF-induced cytotoxicity and deposit formation on dentin.
The cytotoxicity of diluted 38% SDF solutions (10-4 and 10-5), with or without the addition of 5 mM or 50 mM GSH, was evaluated at 6 and 24 hours. Cell viability was detected using WST-8 and the effect on ALP activity was performed using an ALP assay kit. Cell morphology was observed using a phase-contrast microscope. Scanning electron microscopy analysis was conducted to evaluate the effect of GSH incorporation or conditioning on SDF-induced deposit formation on dentin discs. cells, while controlled concentrations of GSH had a short-term protective effect against SDF-induced damage. This retrospective observational study included 321 consecutive patients presenting for root canal retreatment. Patients were treated by graduate students, following standard protocols. Data on medical history, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up visits variables were collected from physical records and periapical radiographs and transferred to an electronic chart database. Basic statistics were tabulated, and univariate and multivariate analytical methods were used to identify risk factors for technical quality and periapical healing. Decision trees were generated to predict technical quality and periapical healing patterns using the J48 algorithm in the Weka software.
Technical outcome was satisfactory in 65.20%, and we observed periapical healing in 80.50% of the cases. Several factoodontitis and technical quality of primary endodontic treatment.

The list was submitted for consideration by the Brazilian Medical Genetics and Genomics Society.

Addition of ATP to cells following ceramic treatment significantly increased IL-1β secretion. SARS-CoV-2 infection was investigated in placental tissues through immunohistochemistry, and positive cases were further confirmed by in situ hybridization. SARS-CoV-2 infection was also investigated by RT-PCR in 33 cases, including all the immunohistochemically positive cases. Nine cases were SARS-CoV-2-positive by immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, and RT-PCR. These placentas showed lesions characterized by villous trophoblast necrosis with intervillous space collapse and variable amounts of mixed intervillous inflammatory infiltrate and perivillous fibrinoid deposition. Such lesions ranged from focal to massively widespread in five cases, resulting in intrauterine fetal death. Two of the stillborn fetuses showed some evidence of SARS-CoV-2 positivity. The remaining 189 placentas did not show similar lesions. The strong association between trophoblastic damage and placenta SARS-CoV-2 infection suggests that this lesion is a specific marker of SARS-CoV-2 infection in placenta. Within each one of those families the chemical composition and the optical properties of their members can be fine-tuned by adjusting the molar ratio of the reactants. In addition, by introducing graphene electrodes to a new type of manufactured photodetector, devices with excellent overall chemical, thermal, and mechanical durability have been developed. Compared to photodetectors based on pristine Ag nanowire (AgNW) electrodes, AgNW/graphene hybrid electrode-based photodetectors exhibit a 20% higher photosensitivity. In this study, we leveraged adeno-associated virus (AAV) to target cardiac fibroblasts and demonstrate that chronic YAP expression upregulated indices of fibrosis and inflammation in the absence of additional stress. Seventy-five paraffin-embedded tissue samples from patients with MCL who completed at least four cycles of chemotherapy from January 2006 to October 2016, and 27 samples from control patients with reactive lymphoid hyperplasia (RLH), were collected. MiRNA expression levels were measured by qRT-PCR.
The miR-155-5p levels were significantly higher in patients with MCL than in the controls. The Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) ≥ 2 and Sex-Determining Region Y-Box transcription factor 11 (SOX11) < median value (M) groups presented lower miR-34a expression than the ECOG < 2 and SOX11 ≥ M groups, respectively. MiR-155-5p expression differed between low, intermediate, and high MCL International Prognostic Index risk groups. The AUCs of miR-34a and miR-155-5p were 0.5819 and 0.7784, respectively. The median survival times of the miR-34a ≤ 0.2150 and miR-155-5p > 2.11 groups were shorter than those of the miR-34a > 0.2150 and miR-155-5p ≤ 2.11 groups, respectively.

Low miR-34a and elevated miR-155-5p levels may be correlated with poor prognosis in MCL.Based on ongoing longitudinal research in families with young children, we investigate parents' changing everyday experiences and health care practices of dealing with COVID-19 policies in the Netherlands from March to June 2020. We identify four key themes developing over time. In relation to evolving COVID-19 prevention policies, (a) the lockdown interrupted life and experiences of temporality. (b) Following the lockdown, risk management changed from fear to insecurities and (c) simultaneously, emotion management transitioned from solidarity to fragmentation. (d) Increasingly, pragmatic considerations allowed parents to tackle uncertainties and created room to normalize everyday life. We studied "change" by using a novel conceptual model for temporality and found distinct temporalities in parents' accounts. In sum, we interpret this as a shift from danger to uncertainty, induced by policy shifts and pragmatically translating those to the lifeworld.
Glioblastoma (GB) is a refractory malignancy with a high rate of recurrence and treatment resistance. Hypoxia-related genes are promising prognostic indicators for GB, so we herein developed a reliable hypoxia-related gene risk scoring model to predict the prognosis of patients with GB.
Gene expression profiles and corresponding clinicopathological features of patients with GB were obtained from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA; n = 160) and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) GSE7696 (n = 80) databases. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses of differentially expressed hypoxia-related genes were performed using R 3.5.1 software.
Fourteen prognosis-related genes were identified and used to construct a risk signature. Patients with high-risk scores had significantly lower overall survival (OS) than those with low-risk scores. The median risk score was used as a critical value and for OS prediction in an independent external verification GSE7696 cohort. Risk score was not significantly affected by clinical-related factors. We also developed a prediction nomogram based on the TCGA training set to predict survival rates, and included six independent prognostic parameters in the TCGA prediction model.

We retrospectively analyzed patients undergoing internal fixation for Müller type C2 and C3 distal femoral fractures via locking plate (Group A), lateral locking condylar plate and medial contoured reconstruction plate (Group B), and lateral locking condylar plate and anterior reconstruction plate (Group C). Knee joint functional recovery and functional outcomes were evaluated 12 months postoperatively.
Patients included 34 men and 24 women aged 25 to 74 years (mean, 50.3 ± 10.73 years). Operating times were longest in Group B and similar in Groups A and C. Bleeding volume in Group A was smaller than in Group B and similar to that of Group C. Functional outcomes were excellent in 18 (31%) fractures, good in 24 (41%), moderate in 11 (19%), and poor in 5 (9%). Good-to-excellent results were achieved in 56%, 82%, and 83% of patients (Groups A, B, and C, respectively). Groups B and C's outcomes were superior to Group A's outcomes. No significant difference in postoperative complications between the groups existed.
