Translation of two particular Human Papilloma Virus-specific oncoproteins, E6 and E7, are the key drivers of malignancy. If diagnosed early cervical, vaginal and vulval cancers have good prognosis and are treated with curative intent. However, metastatic disease carries a poor prognosis, with first-line systemic treatment providing only modest increase in outcome. Having shown promise in other solid malignancies, immune checkpoint inhibition and therapeutic cancer vaccines have been directed towards Human Papilloma Virus-associated gynaecological cancers, mindful that persistent Human Papilloma Virus infection drives malignancy and is associated with immunosuppression and lack of T-cell immunity. In this review, we discuss novel therapeutic approaches for targeting Human Papilloma Virus-driven gynaecological malignancies including vaccination strategies, use of immunomodulation, immune checkpoint inhibitors and agents targeting Human Papilloma Virus-specific oncoproteins. We also highlight the evolving focus on exciting new treatments including adoptive T-cell therapies.Background and Purpose Operative microwave ablation (MWA) is a safe modality for treating hepatic tumors. The aim of this study is to present our 10-year, single-center experience of operative MWA for neuroendocrine liver metastases (NLM). Methods A single-institution retrospective review of patients who underwent operative MWA for NLM was performed (2008-2018). Demographics, primary tumor site, operative approach, combined surgical operations, and carcinoid symptoms were recorded. Clinical outcomes for major complications, readmission, and mortality were analyzed 30 days postoperatively. Postablation imaging was evaluated for incomplete ablation/missed lesions, and surveillance imaging reviewed for local, regional, and metastatic recurrence. Results Of the 50 patients (166 targeted lesions) who received MWA for NLM, 41 (82%) were treated with a minimally invasive approach, and 22 (44%) underwent MWA concomitant with hepatectomy and/or primary tumor resection. Within the study cohort 70% of patients were treated with curative intent with a 77% (27/35) success rate. Carcinoid symptoms were reported in 40% (20/50) of patients preoperatively, and MWA treatment improved symptoms in 19/20 patients. Incomplete ablation occurred in 1/166 treated lesions. Recurrence-free survival at 1 and 5 years was 86% and 28%, respectively. Overall survival at 1 and 5 years was 94% and 70%, respectively (median follow-up 32 months, range 0-116 months). Conclusion Operative MWA is a versatile modality, which can be safe and effectively performed alone or combined with hepatectomy for NLM, preferably using a minimally invasive approach, to achieve symptom control and possibly improve survival.Prostaglandins are critical lipid mediators involved in the wound healing response, with prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) being the most complex and exhibiting the most diverse physiological outputs. Recent studies examining the role of PGE2 and EP receptor signaling in wound healing following various forms of tissue damage are discussed in this review.Previously, we identified a population of neurons in the hindbrain tegmentum, bordering the locus coeruleus (LC). We named this population the pre-locus coeruleus (pre-LC) because in rats its neurons lie immediately rostral to the LC. In this study, eight H9N2 IAVs were isolated from infected diseased, farmed raccoon dogs and arctic foxes. Eight genes shared 98.6%-100% identity among the isolates possessing a PSRSSR/GL motif at the HA cleavage site, which is same as the motif of G1 and Y280 lineages of H9N2 IAVs. The phylogenetic analysis showed that the HA genes of the eight isolates clustered with Y280-like viruses, whereas the NA genes belonged to F/98-like sublineage. Interestingly, the NS, NP, PB2 and PA genes of the isolates were closely related to H7N9 IAVs. This is the first evidence for isolation of H9N2 IAVs from raccoon dogs and arctic foxes. Raccoon dogs and arctic foxes potentially serve as an intermediate host for influenza viruses with pandemic potential toward other animals due to co-expression of both SA α-2,6-Gal and SA α-2,3-Gal receptors in a wide range of their tissues.Several protein biomarkers have been shown to be useful for the early diagnosis of acute kidney injury (AKI) in animals and people. Histology confirmed presence of acute tubular injury at 2 h of reperfusion. Concentrations of clusterin, cystatin C, kidney-injury molecule 1 (KIM-1), monocyte chemoattractant protein 1, and neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) at baseline and following IR, measured by two different multiplex assays and previously-validated single analyte immunoassays, were compared. Indications were osteoarticular infection (OAI), infective endocarditis (IE), or other bloodstream infection (BSI). Primary endpoint was 90-day infection-related readmission (IRR); secondary endpoints included time-to-IRR, frequency of adverse drug events (ADEs), and all-cause readmission and mortality.
215 patients were included 70 (33%) receiving dalbavancin, and 145 (67%) receiving SOC. Indications were OAI (47%), IE (27%), and other BSI (26%). OAI was more common in patients on dalbavancin compared with those receiving SOC (70% vs. 37%,P<0.001). Dalbavancin patients had shorter median (interquartile range [IQR]) length of stay (LOS) prior to drug initiation compared with those receiving SOC (1h SOC.
Trials investigating the efficacy of different interventions for overweight children are limited and controversial. Therefore, the aim of this study is to perform a network meta-analysis on the efficacy of various interventions for children with obesity (an average age of 6-12 years old).
We obtained the data of trials reporting pre-post obesity relevant outcomes (e.g. BMI, BMI z-score, percent body fat, or percent overweight) from the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), MEDLINE (Ovid), PubMed, and Web of Science databases (completed before February 25, 2019) and included at least one pair of direct comparison groups. The mean difference of outcomes and their associated 95% CI were used to determine the efficacy. The P-score was calculated to illustrate the rank probability of various treatments for different outcomes using a network meta-analysis. Our meta-analysis included 24 studies that evaluated the interventions for childhood obesity.
All 24 trials had no high risk of bias. Interventions such as exercise without parents (E w/o P); diet with parents (D w/P); and diet, exercise, and lifestyle with parents (D+E+L w/P) were significantly effective for children with obesity when compared with no intervention.

Few studies have comprehensively analyzed the correlations among body composition parameters, muscle strength, and physical performance, as well as the influence of these factors on the postoperative complications and survival after radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer.
A prospective study was conducted including patients who underwent radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer from August 2014 to June 2019. Skeletal muscle index (SMI), skeletal muscle density (SMD), visceral fat area (VFA), subcutaneous fat area (SFA) was obtained by measurement of preoperative computed tomography (CT) images. Grip strength and 6-m gait speed were measured to assess muscle strength and physical performance before surgery.
There was a positive correlation between SMI and SMD, as well as between SFA and VFA. SMD negatively correlated with SFA and VFA. SMI had a positive correlation with VFA, but showed minimal correlation with SFA and visceral to subcutaneous fat ratio (VSR). Grip strength and gait speed were both positively correlated with SMI and SMD, but showed minimal correlation with SFA, VFA and VSR.

Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membrane modified with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were synthesized as a tailor-made support for enzyme immobilization. Covalently immobilized laccase from Trametes hirsuta exhibited remarkable activity and activity recovery of 4.47 U/cm2 and 38.31%, respectively. The results also indicated improvement in the operational and thermal stability of the immobilized laccase compared to free laccase. Finally, by using immobilized laccase in a mini-membrane reactor, removal efficiencies of 27% in 48 h and 95% in 4 h were obtained for carbamazepine and diclofenac, respectively. CMC macromolecules were attached to CAP by bidentate bridging and hydrogen bonding, preserving the high adsorption capacity of CAP nanoparticles while allowing for easy gravity-separation of the nanoparticles. CMC-CAP showed rapid adsorption kinetics and 22.8% and 11.2% higher equilibrium uptake for Zn2+ and Cd2+, respectively, than pristine CAP. An extended dual-mode isotherm model, which takes into account both sorption and chemical precipitation, provided the best fits to the sorption isotherms, giving a maximum Langmuir sorption capacity of 141.1 mg g-1 for Zn2+ and 150.2 mg g-1 for Cd2+ by CMC-CAP. Na+ at up to 5 mM showed modest effects on the uptake of the heavy metals, while 2-5 mM of Ca2+ exerted notable inhibitive effects. Dissolved organic matter (up to 5 mg L-1 as TOC) inhibited the Zn2+ uptake by 16.5% but enhanced the Cd2+ removal by 8.6%. Material characterizations and surface binding analyses revealed that ion exchange, surface precipitation, and surface complexation were the removal mechanisms for the heavy metals. This study demonstrates stabilizer bridging may serve as a convenient strategy to facilitate water treatment uses of nanoparticles.

Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membrane modified with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were synthesized as a tailor-made support for enzyme immobilization. Covalently immobilized laccase from Trametes hirsuta exhibited remarkable activity and activity recovery of 4.47 U/cm2 and 38.31%, respectively. The results also indicated improvement in the operational and thermal stability of the immobilized laccase compared to free laccase. Finally, by using immobilized laccase in a mini-membrane reactor, removal efficiencies of 27% in 48 h and 95% in 4 h were obtained for carbamazepine and diclofenac, respectively. In previous reports, ITP was cured by colectomy for UC. In contrast, peripheral arthritis is a common extraintestinal manifestation of UC, and it is known that 75% of these patients develop or continue to experience such symptoms after colectomy. Some extraintestinal manifestations may equally persist after colectomy. However, the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. Ileitis and small intestinal and duodenal inflammation are all known bowel complications associated with colectomy, and some immunological mechanisms have been suggested to be involved. Therefore, careful monitoring in these patients is necessary to detect any possibility of developing extraintestinal manifestations after colectomy. Further studies to examine the mechanisms underlying the immunological abnormality between UC and extraintestinal manifestations such as ITP are needed.
This study investigated the relationship between birth physique and cardiovascular risk factors in Japanese urban residents aged 40 years and more.
A self-administered questionnaire on birth physique was performed among 624 individuals (165 men and 459 women) who participated in the KOBE study. We examined whether self-reported birth physique and available recorded birth weights matched for 72 participants. Then the association between birth physique and risk factors for all participants was examined by gender. Body size at birth in the questionnaire (large, medium, small) was set as an exposure and laboratory values from the baseline survey (2010-2011) were used as outcomes.
Mean (standard deviation) recorded birth weight of 72 participants was 3665 (318), 3051 (300), and 2653 (199) g, in the large, medium, and small group, respectively. In the analysis for all participants, odds ratio for having both hypertension and impaired glucose tolerance were significantly higher in the small versus large birth weight group, which was 7.42 (95% CI 1.75-31.50) for men and 4.44 (95% CI 1.14-17.30) for women after adjusting for age, body mass index, smoking/alcohol/exercise habits, and menstrual status in women. Similar results were observed in participants with recorded birth weight.
The present study indicates that individuals with small physique at birth might be at higher risk for hypertension and impaired glucose tolerance in middle age compared to those with large birth weight.

Feedback activation of factor XI (FXI) by thrombin is believed to play a critical role in the amplification phase of thrombin generation and to contribute to thrombosis development and hemostasis. However, the activation of FXI by thrombin has been shown in vitro to require a cofactor. In this study, the role of thrombin in activated FXI (FXIa) formation in vivo is investigated.
The study population comprised probands in whom coagulation activation was triggered by low-dose (15 µg/kg) recombinant activated factor VII (rFVIIa, n=89), of whom 34 with (VTE+) and 45 without a history of venous thromboembolism (VTE-), and patients undergoing major orthopedic surgeries (n=45). FXIa was quantified via an enzyme capture assay using a monoclonal FXI-specific antibody. Thrombin formation was monitored using an oligonucleotide-based enzyme capture assay and the thrombin activation markers prothrombin fragment 1+2 (F1+2) and thrombin-antithrombin complex (TAT).
In the rFVIIa cohort, FXIa and thrombin remained below their lower limit of quantification of 3.48 and 1.06 pmol/L, respectively. By contrast, during the surgeries, median FXIa levels increased from 3.69 pmol/L pre-operatively to 9.41 pmol/L mid-operatively (P=4·10
) and remained significantly elevated 24 h thereafter, with 9.38 pmol/L (P=0.001). Peak levels of F1+2 were comparable in the VTE+, VTE-, and surgery cohort (235, 268, and 253 pmol/L), whereas peak TAT levels were higher in the surgery cohort (53.1, 33.9, and 147.6 pmol/L).

The prediction of functional outcome is essential in the management of acute ischemic stroke patients. We aimed to explore the various prognostic factors with multivariate linear discriminant analysis or neural network analysis and evaluate the associations between candidate factors, baseline characteristics, and outcome.
Acute ischemic stroke patients (n=1,916) with premorbid modified Rankin Scale (mRS) scores of 0-2 were analyzed. The prediction models with multivariate linear discriminant analysis (quantification theory type II) and neural network analysis (log-linearized Gaussian mixture network) were used to predict poor functional outcome (mRS 3-6 at 3 months) with various prognostic factors added to age, sex, and initial neurological severity at admission.
Both models revealed that several nutritional statuses and serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels at admission improved the predictive ability. Of the 1,484 patients without missing data, 560 patients (37.7%) had poor outcomes. The patients with poor outcomes had higher ALP levels than those without (294.3±259.5 vs. 246.3±92.5 U/l, P<0.001). Multivariable logistic analyses revealed that higher ALP levels (1-SD increase) were independently associated with poor stroke outcomes after adjusting for several confounding factors, including the neurological severity, malnutrition status, and inflammation (odds ratio 1.21, 95% confidence interval 1.02- 1.49). https://www.selleckchem.com/products/eft-508.html Several nutritional indicators extracted from prediction models were also associated with poor outcome.

Medical students navigate complex personal learning pathways from entry into medical school, through an educational program, and into life-long practice. However, many stakeholders have called for substantive reforms in contemporary curricula, citing concerns about the lack of key abilities amongst newly graduated doctors to work in complex healthcare environments. Despite the need for educators to focus on curricula design, there is a paucity of overarching perspectives that allow synthesis of the various curricular elements in a way that lends meaningfulness and appreciation to the students in terms of navigating the immediate program requirements and beyond. Without such guidance, educators risk creating fragmented program designs that can lead to both unintended and unactionable outcomes for students as well as curriculum designers. Using systems thinking, we set out to address this gap by providing an overarching perspective for curriculum designers to appreciate the relationships and the interactions developmental continua, conceptualising immersive clinical placements in non-traditional settings, and complexity-consistent evaluation of curricular interventions.

Rising healthcare costs, an increasing general practitioner shortage and an aging population have made healthcare organization transformation a priority. To meet these challenges, traditional roles of non-medical members have been reconsidered. Within the domain of physiotherapy, there has been significant interest in Extended Scope Physiotherapy (ESP). Although studies have focused on the perceptions of different stakeholders in relation to ESP, there is a large variety in the interpretation of ESP.
To identify a paradigm of ESP incorporating goals, roles and tasks, to provide a consistent approach for the implementation of ESP in primary care.
An exploratory, qualitative multi-step design was used containing a scoping review, focus groups and semi-structured interviews. The study population consisted of patients, physiotherapists, general practitioners and indirect stakeholders such as lecturers, health insurers and policymakers related to primary care physiotherapy. The main topics discussed in the fdirect stakeholders, it appears that there is sufficient support for ESP in the Netherlands. This study provides a clear presentation of how ESP can be conceptualized in primary care. A pilot focused on determining the feasibility of ESP in Dutch primary care will be the next step.

There have been considerable studies on the effects of reproductive factors on thyroid cancer risk, while findings are inconsistent. In this analysis, we aimed to investigate the associations between menstrual, reproductive and hormonal factors with thyroid cancer occurrence in a population of Chinese women.
Using data from a 11 matched case-control study performed between 2015 and 2017 in Zhejiang Province of China, a second analysis of 2261 pairs of female subjects was conducted. The possible effects for thyroid cancer were evaluated in logistic regression models by odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs).
Later age at first pregnancy (for > 25 vs. ≦ 20years, OR 0.47, 95% CI 0.23-0.96) and longer duration of breast feeding (for 6-12 vs. ≦ 6months, OR 0.49, 95% CI 0.24-0.98) were significantly associated with decreased occurrence of thyroid cancer, while no trend was observed. Stratified by age at enrollment, only the association with duration of breast feeding remained significant, but limited to younger women (≦ 50years).
Our results suggested that women with later age at first pregnancy or longer breast feeding duration were less likely to have thyroid cancer. These findings supported an influence role of reproductive factors in thyroid cancer risk.

Most existing research on medical clowns in health care services has investigated their usefulness mainly among child health consumers. In this research we examined multiple viewpoints of medical staff, clowns, and health consumers aiming to identify the optimal audience (adult or child health consumers) for which medical clowns are most useful. We focused on exploring their usefulness in enhancing health consumers' satisfaction and, in turn, reducing their aggressive tendencies.
We conducted three studies that examined the placement fit of medical clowns from different points of view medical staff (Study 1, n = 88), medical clowns (Study 2, n = 20), and health consumers (Study 3, n = 397). Although studies have focused on the perceptions of different stakeholders in relation to ESP, there is a large variety in the interpretation of ESP. To identify a paradigm of ESP incorporating goals, roles and tasks, to provide a consistent approach for the implementation of ESP in primary care. An exploratory, qualitative multi-step design was used containing a scoping review, focus groups and semi-structured interviews. The study population consisted of patients, physiotherapists, general practitioners and indirect stakeholders such as lecturers, health insurers and policymakers related to primary care physiotherapy. The main topics discussed in the fdirect stakeholders, it appears that there is sufficient support for ESP in the Netherlands. This study provides a clear presentation of how ESP can be conceptualized in primary care. A pilot focused on determining the feasibility of ESP in Dutch primary care will be the next step. There have been considerable studies on the effects of reproductive factors on thyroid cancer risk, while findings are inconsistent. In this analysis, we aimed to investigate the associations between menstrual, reproductive and hormonal factors with thyroid cancer occurrence in a population of Chinese women. Using data from a 11 matched case-control study performed between 2015 and 2017 in Zhejiang Province of China, a second analysis of 2261 pairs of female subjects was conducted. The possible effects for thyroid cancer were evaluated in logistic regression models by odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Later age at first pregnancy (for > 25 vs. ≦ 20years, OR 0.47, 95% CI 0.23-0.96) and longer duration of breast feeding (for 6-12 vs. ≦ 6months, OR 0.49, 95% CI 0.24-0.98) were significantly associated with decreased occurrence of thyroid cancer, while no trend was observed. Stratified by age at enrollment, only the association with duration of breast feeding remained significant, but limited to younger women (≦ 50years). Our results suggested that women with later age at first pregnancy or longer breast feeding duration were less likely to have thyroid cancer. In this research we examined multiple viewpoints of medical staff, clowns, and health consumers aiming to identify the optimal audience (adult or child health consumers) for which medical clowns are most useful. This protocol established in this study has been reported following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Protocols. Web of Science, PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library were searched for all clinical trials assessing the accuracy of TVU CL in prediction of spontaneous onset of labor in singleton gestations with vertex presentation who were enrolled at term until August 15, 2020. We will use a combination of Medical Subject Heading and free-text terms with various synonyms to search based on the eligibility criteria. Two investigators independently reviewed the included studies and extracted relevant data. The 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of was used as effect estimate. I-square (I2) test, substantial heterogeneity, sensitivity analysis, and publication bias assessment will be performed accordingly. Stata 15.0 and Review Manger 5.3 are used for meta-analysis and systematic review.
The results will be published in a peer-reviewed journal.

The objective of this study was to describe the different components of left atrial (LA) dysfunction predictors in nonobstructive and occult obstructive hypertrophy cardiomyopathy (HCM) patients especially with preserved left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction, particularly using LA 4-dimensional (D) longitudinal and circumferential strains.
Twenty-eight nonobstructive HCM patients and 30 occult obstructive HCM patients according to LV outflow tract gradient at rest and after exercise were prospectively enrolled. 4D echocardiographic evaluation was performed in 58 HCM patients, both nonobstructive and occult obstructive, and 38 control subjects. LA reservoir, conduit, contractile functions were performed by 4D volume-strain with volumes and longitudinal, circumferential strains.
Optimal correlation coefficients obtained between LV 4D mass (index) and LA 4D longitudinal/circumferential strain (r=-0.860 to 0.518, all P<0.001). Both nonobstructive and occult obstructive HCM patients had increased volumets.
LA volumes were significantly increased and LA reservoir, conduit, and contractile functions were significantly impaired in HCM patients. Furthermore, different performances of LA functional analyses in nonobstruction and occult obstruction patients with 4D volume-strain echocardiography may facilitate the recognition of subtle LA dysfunctional differentiation in HCM patients.

Artificial intelligence-based FS MRI scans were created from non-FS images using a deep learning system with a modified convolutional neural network-based U-Net that used a training set of 25,920 images and validation set of 16,416 images. Three musculoskeletal radiologists reviewed 88 knee MR studies in 2 sessions, the original (proton density [PD] + FSPD) and the synthetic (PD + AFSMRI). Readers recorded AFSMRI quality (diagnostic/nondiagnostic) and the presence or absence of meniscal, ligament, and tendon tears; cartilage defects; and bone marrow abnormalities. Contrast-to-noise rate measurements were made among subcutaneous fat, fluid, bone marrow, cartilage, and muscle. The original MRI sequences were used as the reference standard to determine the diagnostic performance of AFSMRI (combined with the original PD sequence). This is a fully balanced study design, where all readers read all images the same number of times, which allowed the determination of the interchangeability of the original and synthetic protocols.

The novel influenza A virus (IAV) defective interfering particle "OP7" inhibits IAV replication in a co-infection and was previously suggested as a promising antiviral agent. Here, we report a batch-mode cell culture-based production process for OP7. In the present study, a seed virus containing standard virus (STV) and OP7 was used. The yield of OP7 strongly depended on the production multiplicity of infection. To inactivate infectious STV in the OP7 material, which may cause harm in a potential application, UV irradiation was used. The efficacy of OP7 in this material was preserved, as shown by an in vitro interference assay. Next, steric exclusion chromatography was used to purify and to concentrate (~ 13-fold) the UV-treated material. Finally, administration of produced OP7 material in **** did not show any toxic effects. Furthermore, all **** infected with a lethal dose of IAV survived the infection upon OP7 co-treatment. The post-mortem investigation of 43 birds, ages one to four weeks, revealed retained yolk sacs filled with caseous exudate, purulent airsacculitis, hepatitis with whitish pinpoint coalescing necrotic foci, splenitis with splenomegaly, hemorrhagic-mucoid enteritis in the small intestine, fibrinous typhlitis, nephromegaly and urate deposits in the ureters and cloaca. Inflammation and/or necrosis were identified in liver, spleen, kidney, small intestine and heart by histopathology. However, no histopathological lesions were observed in the brain. Salmonella spp. were isolated from heart, liver, spleen and brain in pure culture. Group specific serotyping determined the presence of group D, with serovar S. Gallinarum being confirmed based on the Kauffmann-White Scheme. A duplex PCR further identified S. Pullorum as the responsible agent for the outbreak. Subsequently, the grandparent flocks, from which the affected flock originated, were tested and found to be negative for S. Pullorum, with no other progenies from the same GPs developing disease. Although the source of the pathogen could not be identified, such findings highlight the importance of "old" pathogens such as S. Pullorum causing sudden high mortality in chicks, even in a highly controlled environment.

The drugs, including phytochemicals, plant extracts, probiotics and synthetic compounds, have been found to regulate Wnt and Notch signalling pathways by targeting regulatory factors (including secreted frizzled-related proteins or pathway proteins such as β-catenin and γ-secretase) to alleviate IBD and colon cancer. Environmental contamination by antibiotics has become a global issue. Colistin, a cationic antimicrobial polypeptide, has been widely used in human/veterinary medicine, and growth promotion in aquaculture. However, no study has been conducted to test the toxic effects of colistin on aquatic animals. In this study, we examined the effects of colistin on zebrafish embryos. Zebrafish embryos were incubated in different concentrations (0, 0.01, 0.1, 1, 2, 3, and 10 μM) of colistin for 96 h. Colistin increased the mortality rate in a dose-dependent manner (LC50 was 3.0 μM or 3.5 mg L-1), but it did not change the hatching rate, heart rate, body length, eye size, or yolk size of embryos. However, colistin impaired keratinocytes and lateral-line hair cells in the skin of embryos. The addition of Fe3+ and CTAB(cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide) reagents make the precipitate particles aggregated to flocs(MHA-Fe, MHA-Fe-CTAB) **** more large, loose, coarse, and small-density. The final generated MHA-Fe-CTAB flocs are hard to be broken up, easy to be recovered and efficient to be separated by flotation process. The flotation removal of MHA-Fe-CTAB flocs is clearly higher than that of MHA or MHA-Fe. The flotation results of MHA-Fe-CTAB are as follows flotation removal of 98.7 ± 0.40%-99.9 ± 0.10%, residual TOC of 0.96 ± 0.38-1.35 ± 0.41 mg/L and turbidity of 0.44 ± 0.09-0.63 ± 0.16 NTU. In the current investigation, we examined effects of rotenone toxicity on neurobehavioral and reproductive functions in whole brain and in selected brain regions in an Indian freshwater catfish, locally known as gulsha (Mystus cavasius). After fish were exposed to water containing rotenone at 0, 2.5, 25, and 250 μg/L for 2 days, significant reductions of DA, 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid (DOPAC; a DA metabolite), and their ratio (DOPAC/DA) were observed in whole brain at 250 μg/L ambient concentrations of rotenone. When fish were treated with rotenone at 250 μg/L concentration for 2 days, there was a significant reduction of DA, DOPAC and DOPAC/DA in diencephalon, DA and DOPAC in pituitary, and only DA in the telencephalon, compared with control fish. In parallel, numbers of tyrosine hydroxylase-positive (TH+) neurons declined significantly in the diencephalon and pituitary after rotenone treatment. Slowed, spontaneous movement and reduced feeding behavior were observed in rotenone-treated fish. Rotenone treatment resulted in a significantly higher gonadosomatic index with many mature vitellogenic oocytes in ovaries and lowered dopaminergic activity in these fish. These results indicate that rotenone influences neurobehavioral and reproductive functions through dopaminergic neuronal cell loss in gulsha brain.In the recent years many studies have shown that wetland plants play beneficial roles in bioelectricity enhancement in constructed wetland-microbial fuel cell (CW-MFC) because of the exudation of root oxygen and root exudates. In this study, the long-term roles of plants on the bioelectricity generation and contaminant removal were investigated in multi-anode (Anode1 and Anode2) and single cathode CW-****. The electrode distances were 20 cm between Anode1-cathode and 10 cm between Anode2-cathode, respectively. Additionally, the employment of natural conductive pyrrhotite mineral as cathode material was firstly investigated in CW-****system. A cathode potential of -98 ± 52 mV to -175 ± 60 mV was achieved in the unplanted (CW-****1), and planted CW-**** with Iris pseudacorus (CW-****2), Lythrum salicaria (CW-****3), and Phragmites australis (CW-****4). The maximum power densities of Anode1-cathode and Anode2-cathode were 8.23 and 15.29 mW/m2 in CW-****1, 8.51 and 1.67 mW/m2 in CW-****2, 5.67 and 3.15 mW/m2 in CW-****3, and 7.59 and 14.71 mW/m2 in CW-****4, respectively. Interestingly, smaller power density was observed at Anode2-cathode, which has shorter electrode distance than Anode1-cathode in both CW-****2 and CW-****3, which indicates the negative role of oxygen released from the flourished plant roots at Anode2 micro-environment in power production. Therefore, recovering power from commercial CW-**** with flourished plants will be a challenge. The contradiction between keeping short electrode distance and avoiding the interference from plant roots to maintain anaerobic anode may be solved by the proposed modular CW-****.
