Following such interesting and controversial data regarding autophagy in ES, many clinical trials using modulators of autophagy are now underway in this field. In the present review, we summarize current data and clinical trials that associate autophagy with ES. In vitro studies highlight the controversial role of autophagy as a tumor promoter or a tumor suppressor mechanism in ES. Clinical and in vitro studies on ES, together with the autophagy modulators, suggest that caution should be adopted in the application of autophagy as a therapeutic target. Monitoring and targeting autophagy in every ES patient could eliminate the need for targeting multiple pathways in order to achieve the maximum beneficial effect. Future studies are required to focus on which ES patients are affected by autophagy modulators in order to provide novel and more efficient therapeutic protocols for patients with ES based on the current autophagy status of the tumors.
    There have been several studies about head-shaking nystagmus (HSN) in posterior canal benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (PC-BPPV). The purpose of the study was to determine the characteristics of HSN and its relationship with head-bending nystagmus (HBN) and lying-down nystagmus (LDN) in PC-BPPV and to suggest a possible pathomechanism of HSN based on these findings.

    During the study period, 992 patients with BPPV were initially enrolled. After excluding horizontal or anterior canal BPPV, multiple canals involvement, secondary causes of BPPV, identifiable central nervous system (CNS) disorders, unidentifiable lesion side, or poor cooperation, 240 patients with unilateral PC-BPPV were enrolled. We assessed the frequency, pattern of HSN, and correlation with other induced nystagmus after positional maneuvers such as head bending, lying down, head-turning, and Dix-Hallpike test.

    Approximately 32% of patients with PC-BPPV showed HSN. Among patients with HSN, approximately 61% of patients showed predominantly downbeat nystagmus, and two-third of them had a torsional component.

  • In the fight against COVID-19, vaccination is vital in achieving herd immunity. Many Asian countries are starting to vaccinate frontline workers; however, expedited vaccine development has led to hesitancy among the general population. We evaluated the willingness of healthcare workers to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

    From 12 to 21 December 2020, we recruited 1720 healthcare workers from 6 countries China, India, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam and Bhutan. The self-administrated survey collected information on willingness to vaccinate, perception of COVID-19, vaccine concerns, COVID-19 risk profile, stigma, pro-socialness scale, and trust in health authorities.

    More than 95% of the healthcare workers surveyed were willing to vaccinate. These respondents were more likely to perceive the pandemic as severe, consider the vaccine safe, have less financial concerns, less stigmatization regarding the vaccine, higher pro-socialness mindset and trust in health authorities. A high perceived pandemic risk index, low vaccine harm index and high pro-socialness index were independent predictors in multivariable analysis.

    The majority of healthcare workers in Asia are willing to receive COVID-19 vaccination. Perceived COVID-19 susceptibility, low potential risk of vaccine harm and pro-socialness are the main drivers. These findings may help formulate vaccination strategies in other countries.

    Kenya has substantially improved child mortality between 1990 and 2019, with under-5 mortality decreasing from 104 to 43 deaths per 1000 live births. However, only two-thirds of Kenyan children receive all recommended vaccines by 1 year, making it essential to identify undervaccinated subpopulations. Internal migrants are a potentially vulnerable group at risk of decreased access to healthcare. This analysis explored how maternal migration within Kenya influences childhood vaccination.

    Data were from the 2014 Kenya Demographic and Health Survey, a nationally representative cross-sectional survey. Logistic regressions assessed relationships between maternal migration and full and up-to-date child vaccination using inverse probability of treatment weighting. Two exposure variables were examined migration status and stream (e.g. rural-urban). Multiple imputation was used to impute up-to-date status for children without vaccination cards to reduce selection bias.

    After accounting for selection and confounding biases, all relationships between migration status and migration stream and full and up-to-date vaccination became statistically insignificant.

    Null findings indicate that, in Kenya, characteristics enabling migration, rather than the process of migration itself, drive differential vaccination behavior between migrants and non-migrants. Most patients are diagnosed at the late stage of advanced CRC, resulting in losing their best opportunity for surgical treatment. Chemotherapy plays a crucial role in the control and treatment of advanced CRC. However, the cytotoxicity of chemotherapeutic drugs can easily cause the imbalance of gut flora, damage the barrier of the gastrointestinal mucosa, and mediate mucosal inflammation of the digestive tract, which is called "gastrointestinal mucositis." This mucositis can affect the quality of life of the host and even threaten their lives. Several studies reported the association between chemotherapy-mediated gastrointestinal mucositis in CRC and gut dysbiosis. However, the underlying mechanisms of this association are still unclear. The alternative or complementary treatments to reshape gut microbiota and slow down the side effects of chemotherapy have shown the improvement of gastrointestinal mucositis following chemotherapy in the CRC condition. This review will summarize and discuss the evidence of the association between chemotherapy-mediated gastrointestinal mucositis in CRC and altered gut microbiota from in vivo and clinical studies. The possible mechanisms of gastrointestinal mucositis, including the destruction of the gastrointestinal mucosal barrier, the induction of gut dysbiosis, and histopathological changes in the gut of CRC with chemotherapy will be illustrated. In addition, the nonpharmacological interventions and phytochemical extracts by using the manipulation of the microbial population for therapeutic purposes for relieving side effects of chemotherapy as well as a cancer treatment would be summarized and discussed in this review.

Currently, there exist several different devices in the market and many others are being developed. However, whether these devices are suitable to be used in resource constrained settings is yet to be evaluated.

We conducted a scoping review by searching PubMed for peer-review articles published in either English, Spanish or Portuguese in the last 5 years. MATERIAL AND METHODS The radioactivity of the ground-level air layer obtained from the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management in WÅ‚odawa in the Lublin region was analysed. 4,250 spermiograms of patients who reported to the treatment facility for the first time due to infertility were analysed and correlated to background radioactivity in the Lublin region in 2000-2016. RESULTS A long-term decrease in the percentage of morphologically normal spermatozoa of the patients was observed (r=-0.970; p less then 0.001 in 2000-2009 and r=-0.925; p=0.003 in 2010-2016). Men's age correlated negatively with sperm motility (r=-0.164; p=0.009) and morphology (r=-0.186; p=0.009). The percentage of spermatozoa with normal morphology was lowered by beta-isotopes of artificial origin in the air in 2000-2009 (r=-0.655; p=0.040) and by the exposure to gamma radiation of the ground-level atmosphere in 2010-2016 (r=-0.676; p=0.048). The percentage of sperm vitality was lowered by gamma radiation in the atmosphere (r=-0.636; p=0.006), but improved by beta isotopes in precipitation (r=0.686; p=0.002) in the whole of the analyzed period. CONCLUSIONS The percentage of morphologically normal spermatozoa in patients who reported to the infertility treatment depends not only on the age of patient, but also on beta-isotopes of artificial origin and gamma radiation in the atmosphere. The study was conducted by a diagnostic survey method using 4 questionnaires Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), World Health Organization Quality of Life BREF (WHOQoL-BREF), and the authors' questionnaire. RESULTS **** pain was reported by 103 respondents (94%) with the lumbar area indicated the most frequently (72.81%). Severe pain every day was reported by 49.51% of respondents and was associated with longer working time. ODI questionnaire confirmed III and IV degrees of disability in paramedics and nurses, who additionally obtained the lowest results in the quality of life assessment. MATERIAL AND METHODS A total of 24 samples of plants, 20 samples of parts of needle-leaved trees and 9 samples of parts of broad-leaved trees were collected from soils with a high concentration of mercury. The concentration was measured by atomic absorption spectrometry in different parts of the plants leaves - 18 species, roots - 15 species, stems - 11 species, flowers - 7 species), and different parts of trees (crust - 8 species, branches - 8 species, needles - 5 species, cones - 5 species, leaves - 3 species). RESULTS The concentrations of mercury in the soils taken at a depth of 0.25 m exceeded the maximum allowed levels more than 50-times. Potatoes, parsley and carrots from these soils exceeded the maximum allowed mercury levels 6-times, 5-times and twice, respectively. The average concentrations of mercury in the roots of 2-year onions exceeded the limit more than 50-times. The flowers of cornflower contain 18.20 mg*kg . CONCLUSIONS The systematic monitoring of mercury is still very important, since it was found that the end of ore processing does not solve the issue of contamination in the Central Spiš region. Therefore, the consumption of fruits and vegetables from the areas of former ore processing facilities is not recommended.

Methods A total of 46 patients with acute unilateral peripheral vestibular syndrome with SN (26 cases of vestibular neuritis, 6 cases of Ramsay Hunt Syndrome (RHS) with vertigo, 14 cases of sudden deafness with vertigo) were included in this work. In the study group, the results of SPT and SN test with videonystagmography(VNG) were also reviewed. Taking SPT parameters, the influence of SN intensity on SPT gain, asymmetry and waveform and their correlation were analyzed.SPSS19.0 software was used for statistical analysis. Results Among the 46 patients, there were 36 cases of SN pointing to the healthy side(SN intensity range of 2.68°/s-32.53°/s), and 10 cases of SN pointing to the affected side (SN intensity range of 2.66°/s-16.54°/s). SN intensity was divided into 3 groups, including light(0.50°/s-5.00°/s), medium(5.01°/s-10.00°/s) and strong(>10.01°/s), analysis showed that type I, type II and type III accounted for 8 cases(17.4%), 21 cases(45.6%) and 17 cases(37.0%), respectively. The corresponding mean values of SN intensity were (3.71±0.69)°/s, (7.44±1.88)°/s, (20.04±5.53)°/s, respectively, without type IV wave. The intensity of SN was positively correlated with the asymmetric value of the gain of SPT left and right(r=0.450,P=0.002). Using LDCT screening among high-risk individuals is an effective strategy to detect lung cancer cases and improve the early detection rates of lung cancer in Beijing, China.Hypertension is a major problem of public health that endangers the health of the oldest old. However, the current guidelines for hypertension management do not uniformly diagnose hypertension among the oldest old, nor recommend a normal blood pressure range, which is not convictive enough to support the decision making to the prevention of blood pressure-related adverse events. This guideline gives guiding opinions on optimal blood pressure range for the Chinese oldest old, which applies to the staff of medical and health institutions at all levels nationwide to evaluate the blood pressure levels of the oldest old. It includes the sections of general principles, methods and standards of blood pressure evaluation, measurement conditions, specifications of blood pressure measurement, implementation approaches, etc. The guideline has important directive significance for improving the blood pressure management and decision-making level of the Chinese oldest old.Birth cohort participants information system is a software system with multiple functions including recode basic information, automatic administration, paper-less questionnaire survey, clinical data integration, data visualization. The efficiency and quality of cohort data were improved dramatically by using this system. This document establishes specifications for institutions' establishment, site preparation, coding system, the recruitment of participants, and quality control in the field survey of birth cohort research.Objective The aim of the study is to analyze the effects of vestibular spontaneous nystagmus(SN) on the smooth pursuit function of visual ocularmotor system. Methods A total of 46 patients with acute unilateral peripheral vestibular syndrome with SN (26 cases of vestibular neuritis, 6 cases of Ramsay Hunt Syndrome (RHS) with vertigo, 14 cases of sudden deafness with vertigo) were included in this work. In the study group, the results of SPT and SN test with videonystagmography(VNG) were also reviewed. Taking SPT parameters, the influence of SN intensity on SPT gain, asymmetry and waveform and their correlation were analyzed.SPSS19.0 software was used for statistical analysis. Results Among the 46 patients, there were 36 cases of SN pointing to the healthy side(SN intensity range of 2.68°/s-32.53°/s), and 10 cases of SN pointing to the affected side (SN intensity range of 2.66°/s-16.54°/s). SN intensity was divided into 3 groups, including light(0.50°/s-5.00°/s), medium(5.01°/s-10.00°/s) and strong(>10.01°/s), analysis showed that type I, type II and type III accounted for 8 cases(17.4%), 21 cases(45.6%) and 17 cases(37.0%), respectively. The corresponding mean values of SN intensity were (3.71±0.69)°/s, (7.44±1.88)°/s, (20.04±5.53)°/s, respectively, without type IV wave. The intensity of SN was positively correlated with the asymmetric value of the gain of SPT left and right(r=0.450,P=0.002). That was, with the increase of SN strength, the asymmetric value also increased, and the worse the asymmetry of the gain of SPT left and right pursuit was, the worse the SPT waveform was. Conclusion SPT gain, asymmetry and SPT waveforms are all affected by SN, and the greater the intensity of SN, the greater the influence on the three. When SN is strong, type III waves may occur, suggesting that acute peripheral vestibular syndrome can also affect the visual ocularmotor systems.Objective To explore the clinical characteristics, intervention and treatment of tympanic osteoma at different locations. Methods The medical history, audiological and imaging examination, operation and follow-up results of two patients with tympanic osteoma at different sites were reviewed and summarized. For patient two, an artificial ossicle was implanted after removed the osteoma and incus. In the 36 patients reported in literatures, the average age was 26.5 years, and 39.47% of them located at promontory; in addition, the main symptoms of them were progressive hearing loss, tinnitus and ear stuffy. Conclusions Patients with tympanic osteoma are characterized by conduction deafness with intact tympanic membrane, and the most common lesion is promontory. Hearing can be restored by excision of the osteoma and maintenance or reconstruction of the ossicle chain.

CONCLUSION The clinical course of infection with H1N1 in our patients was favorable. There are limited epidemiological studies of this disorder in low- and middle-income countries. The aim of this study was to describe trends in the age-standardized incidence and mortality rates of AKI in Peru. METHODS We conducted an ecological study based on a secondary data sources of the basic cause of death from healthcare and death records obtained from establishments of the Ministry of Health of Peru for the period 2005-2016. The age-standardized incidence and mortality rates of AKI were described by region and trend effects were estimated by linear regression models. RESULTS During the period 2005-2016, 26,633 cases of AKI were reported nationwide. The age-standardized incidence rate of AKI per 100,000 people increased by 15.2%, from 10.5 (period 2005-2010) to 12.1 (period 2011-2016). During the period 2005-2016, 6,812 deaths due to AKI were reported, which represented 0.49% of all deaths reported for that period in Peru. The age-standardized mortality rate of AKI per 100,000 people decreased by 11.1%, from 2.7 (period 2005-2010) to 2.4 (period 2011-2016). https://www.selleckchem.com/products/cu-cpt22.html The greatest incidence and mortality rates were observed in the age group older than 60 years. The absence of these resonances is explained by the lack of a potential barrier for tunneling of the hydrogen atom, despite the coupling between dipole bound and states. We found that the π* resonances initiate the dynamics that lead to hydrogen loss at 1.5, 2.5 and 3 eV. The later two structures arise from the anion states of cyanamide, while carbodiimide should account for the lower-lying one. The rarity of the second tautomer would be offset by its larger dissociative electron attachment cross section, enough to leave a distinct signature in the measured ion yield spectra. Recent advances in the sub-molecular resolution with scanning probe microscopy allow us to capture on-surface reaction pathways and to gain substantial insights into the role of strain in chemical reactions. The primary focus of this review is to highlight the recent findings on strain-induced on-surface reactions. Such substrate-induced processes can be applied to alter the chemical reactivity and to drive on-surface chemical reactions in different manners, which provides a promising alternative approach for on-surface synthesis. This review aims to shed light on the utilization of substrate-induced strain for on-surface transformation and synthesis of atomically-precise novel functional nanomaterials.In this study, we have carried out studies on supercapacitor performance comparing cobalt oxide (Co3O4) with cobalt sulfide (Co3S4) nanosheets grown using a facile electrodeposition approach. We have investigated the origin of enhanced energy storage performance of Co3S4 as compared to Co3O4 both by supported experiments and density functional theory investigations. Cobalt oxide exhibits a specific capacitance of 200 F g-1 at a current density of 2 A g-1, whereas a high specific capacitance of 558 F g-1 was achieved in the case of the Co3S4 nanosheets. The enhanced supercapacitor performance of Co3S4 is due to the high surface area, better wettability and high conductivity of the nanosheets. The asymmetric device exhibited a maximum energy density of 47.3 W h kg-1 with a power density of 2388.4 W kg-1 for Co3S4//MWCNT. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopic analysis revealed that Co3O4 has a substantially bigger semicircle as compared to Co3S4, confirming inferior charge-transfer characteristics in Co3O4. Density functional theory (DFT) simulations revealed that bulk structures of both Co3S4 and Co3O4 have an anti-ferromagnetic (AFM) configuration with Co atoms at the tetrahedral site having an opposite spin (∼2.55 μB each) and those at the octahedral sites being non-magnetic. Co3S4 nanosheets are found to be more conducting due to the presence of higher density of states near the Fermi level and a smaller bandgap compared to Co3O4 which support the observed experimental data on enhanced energy storage performance of Co3S4.Amphiphilic lipids can often form various lipid-based lyotropic liquid crystalline phases when they are exposed to aqueous environments, which includes the inverse hexagonal (H2), inverse cubic (V2), inverse discontinuous cubic (I2) and lamellar (Lα) phases. Their different interactions with crossed-polarised light make some phases appear bright and some dark, which offers great potential in developing a novel universal assay platform using birefringence as the visual signal output. Here, we have developed a novel strategy for constructing an assay platform using lyotropic liquid crystalline phases as the signal transducer and using changes in their birefringence upon exposure to lipase as the signal output. The hydrolysis of the ester group of glyceryl monooleate (GMO) by lipase induced a phase transition from cubic phase to hexagonal phase and consequently "turned on" the birefringence as the signal output. The change in the intensity of the birefringence depended on both the exposure time and concentration of lipase.

  • In situ measurement of cellular metabolites is still a challenge in biology. Conventional methods, such as mass spectrometry or fluorescence microscopy, would either destroy the sample or introduce strong perturbations to target molecules. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/gsk2126458.html Here, we present multiplex stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) imaging cytometry as a label-free single-cell analysis platform with chemical specificity and high-throughput capabilities. Using SRS imaging cytometry, we studied the metabolic responses of human pancreatic cancer cells under stress by starvation and chemotherapeutic drug treatments. We unveiled protrusions containing lipid droplets as a metabolic marker for stress-resistant cancer cells. Furthermore, by spectroscopic SRS mapping, we unveiled that triglyceride in lipid droplets are used for local energy production through lipolysis, autophagy, and β-oxidation. Our findings demonstrate the potential of targeting lipid metabolism for selective treatment of stress-resistant cancers. Collectively, these results highlight SRS imaging cytometry as a powerful label-free tool for biological discoveries with a high-throughput, high-content capacity. It has been well documented that the ER responds to cellular stresses through the unfolded protein response (UPR), but it is unknown how the Golgi responds to similar stresses. In this study, we treated HeLa cells with ER stress inducers, thapsigargin (TG), tunicamycin (Tm), and dithiothreitol (DTT), and found that only TG treatment resulted in Golgi fragmentation. TG induced Golgi fragmentation at a low dose and short time when UPR was undetectable, indicating that Golgi fragmentation occurs independently of ER stress. Further experiments demonstrated that TG induces Golgi fragmentation through elevating intracellular Ca2+ and protein kinase Cα (PKCα) activity, which phosphorylates the Golgi stacking protein GRASP55. Significantly, activation of PKCα with other activating or inflammatory agents, including phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate and histamine, modulates Golgi structure in a similar fashion. Hence, our study revealed a novel mechanism through which increased cytosolic Ca2+ modulates Golgi structure and function. The nucleus accumbens (NAc) plays a key role in drug-related behavior and natural reward learning. Synaptic plasticity in dopamine D1 and D2 receptor medium spiny neurons (MSNs) of the NAc and the endogenous cannabinoid (eCB) system have been implicated in reward seeking. However, the precise molecular and physiological basis of reward-seeking behavior remains unknown. We found that the specific deletion of metabotropic glutamate receptor 5 (mGluR5) in D1-expressing MSNs (D1miRmGluR5 ****) abolishes eCB-mediated long-term depression (LTD) and prevents the expression of drug (cocaine and ethanol), natural reward (saccharin), and brain-stimulation-seeking behavior. In vivo enhancement of 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG) eCB signaling within the NAc core restores both eCB-LTD and reward-seeking behavior in D1miRmGluR5 ****. The data suggest a model where the eCB and glutamatergic systems of the NAc act in concert to mediate reward-seeking responses. Cell-cycle quiescence is a common feature of early germline development in many animal species. In Drosophila germline progenitors (pole cells), both G2/M and G1/S transitions are blocked. G2/M transition is repressed by maternal Nanos through suppression of Cyclin B production. However, the molecular mechanism underlying blockage of G1/S transition remains elusive. We found that repression of miR-10404 expression is required to block G1/S transition in pole cells. Expression of miR-10404, a microRNA encoded within the internal transcribed spacer 1 of rDNA, is repressed in early pole cells by maternal polar granule component. This repression delays the degradation of maternal dacapo mRNA, which encodes an inhibitor of G1/S transition. Moreover, derepression of G1/S transition in pole cells causes defects in their maintenance and their migration into the gonads. Our observations reveal the mechanism inhibiting G1/S transition in pole cells and its requirement for proper germline development. Semiconductor/Faradaic layer/liquid junctions have been widely used in solar energy conversion and storage devices. However, the charge transfer mechanism of these junctions is still unclear, which leads to inconsistent results and low performance of these devices in previous studies. Herein, by using Fe2O3 and Ni(OH)2 as models, we precisely control the interface structure between the semiconductor and the Faradaic layer and investigate the charge transfer mechanism in the semiconductor/Faradaic layer/liquid junction. The results suggest that the short circuit severely restricts the performance of the junction for both solar water splitting cells and solar charging supercapacitors. More importantly, we also find that the charge-discharge potential window of a Faradaic material sensitively depends on the energy band positions of a semiconductor, which provides a new way to adjust the potential window of a Faradaic material. These new insights offer guidance to design high-performance devices for solar energy conversion and storage. Cycles of short thermal shifts followed by transformation with a suite of mutagenic oligos delivered different types of genomic changes at frequencies up to 10% per single modification. The same approach was instrumental to super-diversify short chromosomal portions for creating libraries of functional genomic segments-e.g., ribosomal-binding sites. These results enabled multiplexing of genome engineering of P. putida, as required for metabolic reprogramming of this important synthetic biology chassis.

Semiconductor/Faradaic layer/liquid junctions have been widely used in solar energy conversion and storage devices. However, the charge transfer mechanism of these junctions is still unclear, which leads to inconsistent results and low performance of these devices in previous studies. Herein, by using Fe2O3 and Ni(OH)2 as models, we precisely control the interface structure between the semiconductor and the Faradaic layer and investigate the charge transfer mechanism in the semiconductor/Faradaic layer/liquid junction. The results suggest that the short circuit severely restricts the performance of the junction for both solar water splitting cells and solar charging supercapacitors. More importantly, we also find that the charge-discharge potential window of a Faradaic material sensitively depends on the energy band positions of a semiconductor, which provides a new way to adjust the potential window of a Faradaic material. These new insights offer guidance to design high-performance devices for solar energy conversion and storage. Application of single-stranded DNA recombineering for genome editing of species other than enterobacteria is limited by the efficiency of the recombinase and the action of endogenous mismatch repair (MMR) systems. In this work we have set up a genetic system for entering multiple changes in the chromosome of the biotechnologically relevant strain EM42 of Pseudomononas putida. To this end high-level heat-inducible co-transcription of the rec2 recombinase and P. putida's allele mutLE36KPP was designed under the control of the PL/cI857 system. Cycles of short thermal shifts followed by transformation with a suite of mutagenic oligos delivered different types of genomic changes at frequencies up to 10% per single modification. The same approach was instrumental to super-diversify short chromosomal portions for creating libraries of functional genomic segments-e.g., ribosomal-binding sites. These results enabled multiplexing of genome engineering of P. putida, as required for metabolic reprogramming of this important synthetic biology chassis.

  • Macrophage activation is a key contributing factor for excessive inflammatory responses of acute lung injury (ALI)/acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Geranylgeranyl diphosphate synthase (GGPPS) plays a key role in the development of inflammatory diseases. Our group previously showed that GGPPS in alveolar epithelium have deleterious effects on acute lung injury induced by LPS or mechanical ventilation. Herein, we examined the role of GGPPS in modulating macrophage activation in ALI/ARDS. When perceived parenting deficits are attributed to parental CI, CPS may wrongly assume that these are irremediable. The study included subjects having tuberculosis of any type with antitubercular drug induced liver injury; naïve or newly diagnosed tuberculosis patients, tuberculosis patients on drugs not having toxicity and healthy controls. Observations from this study revealed that expression levels of miR-122 and miR-192 were significantly decreased in the serum of antitubercular drug induced liver injury patients only. In the end, 20 articles remained after applying the exclusion criteria. The data was organized into subcategories related to the form of use, protocols, electroencephalographic findings in patients with fibromyalgia, and the EEG analysis method.

Immediate response of atmospheric turbulence to **-induced atmospheric warming strongly depends on the available solar radiation (time of the day), ** concentration, and atmospheric boundary layer dynamics. Besides the significant climate implications of a reduction in turbulence kinetic energy, a large reduction in the refractive index structure parameter (Cn2) resulting from **-induced warming would affect the atmospheric propagation of laser beams. Interestingly, aerosols contribute significantly (up to 25%) to the signal deterioration in optical wireless communication systems during convectively stable atmospheric conditions when higher signal-to-noise ratios are expected otherwise due to the reduced thermal convection. Competing effects of the fractional contributions of aerosol extinction and scintillations on beam attenuation are reported; daytime being largely dominated by scintillation effects while the nighttime being dependent on the ambient aerosol concentration as well. We put forward the entanglement of optical turbulence to aerosol concentration, atmospheric boundary layer dynamics, and surface-reaching solar radiation, and discuss the possible implications for optical propagation.Deep learning has been actively investigated for various applications such as image classification, computer vision, and regression tasks, and it has shown state-of-the-art performance. In diffuse optical tomography (DOT), the accurate estimation of the bulk optical properties of a medium is paramount because it directly affects the overall image quality. In this work, we exploit deep learning to propose a novel, to the best of our knowledge, convolutional neural network (CNN)-based approach to estimate the bulk optical properties of a highly scattering medium such as biological tissue in DOT. We validated the proposed method by using experimental, as well as, simulated data. For performance assessment, we compared the results of the proposed method with those of existing approaches. The results demonstrate that the proposed CNN-based approach for bulk optical property estimation outperforms existing methods in terms of estimation accuracy, with lower computation time.This research investigated the optoelectronic properties and anisotropic stress of Mo-doped ZnO (MZO) films, which were deposited on polyethylene terephthalate and polycarbonate flexible substrates with radio frequency magnetron sputtering. The coupler consists of two identical CSWs separated by a horizontal slot waveguide (HSW), and S-bend sections at each end of the coupling section are introduced to decouple and separate the light. Owing to the strong birefringence of the HSW, the coupling length ratio between two different polarized modes (TE and TM) is adjustable in a suitable range by simply changing the gap width between the CSW and the HSW. The coupling length of the TM mode can be easily made half of that of the TE mode with a proper gap width, which is a favorable condition to realize a short PBS. Then, by making the length of the coupling section equal to the coupling length of the TE mode, the TE and TM modes are split. The PBS has the advantages of a small footprint and a high polarization extinction ratio (PER) and may be useful in the polarization management of a CSW-based on-chip optical system. Numerical results indicate that a PBS of ∼12µm with an insertion loss (IL) of 0.17 (0.53) dB, PER of 24.12 (21.14) dB for the TM (TE) mode is achieved at the wavelength of 1.55 µm, with a bandwidth covering the full C band for keeping PER>15dB and IL less then 1dB.Temperature scaling of collisional broadening parameters for krypton (absorber) 4p6S01→5p[3/2]2 electronic transition centered at 107.3 nm in the presence of major combustion species (perturber) is investigated. In a separate experimental campaign, laminar premixed flat flame product mixtures of methane combustion were employed to extend the investigations to higher temperature ranges relevant to combustion. Collisional full width half maximum (FWHM) (wC) and shift (δC) were computed from the absorption spectrum by synthetically fitting Voigt profiles to the excitation scans, and their corresponding temperature scaling was determined by fitting power-law temperature dependencies to the wC and δC data for each perturber species. The temperature exponents of wC and δC for all considered combustion species (perturbers) were -0.73 and -0.6, respectively. The aim of this study was to translate and examine content validity and response processes during completion of MQOL-E and QOLLTI-F version 2 (v2) among Swedish patients with life-threatening illness and their family carers. METHODS The study was conducted in two stages (I) translation and adaptation (II) examination of content validity and response processes using cognitive interviews with 15 patients and 9 family carers. Partict validity, linguistic equivalence and cultural appropriateness of the translated instruments. In addition, results show that the instruments may support conversations on matters of importance for quality of life between patients and/or family carers and health care professionals. Further research is needed to study the psychometric properties of Swedish translations.BACKGROUND Recent genome-wide association study showed rs10940346 locus near EMB gene was significantly associated with schizophrenia and suggested that EMB gene is one of the potentially causal genes for schizophrenia, but no causal variant has been identified. Our study aims to further verify EMB gene is a susceptibility gene for schizophrenia and to identify potentially causal variants in EMB gene that lead to schizophrenia. METHODS Targeted sequencing for the un-translated region and all exons of EMB gene was performed among 1803 patients with schizophrenia and 997 healthy controls recruited from Chinese Han population. RESULTS A total of 58 high-quality variants were identified in case and control groups. Seven of them are nonsynonymous rare variations, EMB p.(Ala52Thr), p.(Glu66Gly), p.(Ser93Cys), p.(Ala118Val), p.(Ile131Met), p.(Gly163Arg) and p.(Arg238Tyr), but none of them reached statistical significance. Among them, p.(Ile131Met), p.(Gly163Arg) and p.(Arg238Tyr), were predicted to be deleterious variants. In addition, a common variant, rs3933097 located in 3'-UTR of EMB gene, achieved allelic and genotypic significance with schizophrenia (Pallele = 3.82 × 10- 6, Pgenotype = 3.18 × 10- 5). CONCLUSIONS Our research first presented a comprehensive mutation spectrum of exons and un-translated region in EMB gene for schizophrenia and provided additional evidence of EMB gene being a susceptibility gene for schizophrenia. Completeness of variables and univariable associations were assessed. Risk prediction models were developed using Cox regression and multivariable fractional polynomials with backwards elimination. Optimism adjusted performance metrics were reported. The sensitivity and specificity offul due to a low sensitivity and increased referral rate. The predictors identified in this study should be investigated in a refined algorithm combining the quantitative FIT result. METHODS This cross-sectional study was performed among 456 patients. All maxillary anterior teeth were included for all parameters and 1st molars were included for gingival thickness measurements. All patients included in this study were systemically healthy and presented no dental crowding. Four clinical parameters were systematically recorded Gingival thickness (GT), Width of keratinized gingiva (WKG), Crown width/ crown length (CW/CL) ratio and Papilla height (PH). Scores obtained from different parameters measurements were recorded and analyzed using non-parametric tests where P-value   8 was more associated with square and quadrate forms with no significant difference. Results showed significant association between thin GT with 4.1-8 mm WKG. CONCLUSION Yemeni population had more prevalence of "1.5-2 mm" GT, rectangular crown shape and WKG from 4.1-8 mm. Regarding interrelationship between gingival parameters, GT showed obvious relationship with WKG, CW/CL ratio and PH. WKG with CW/CL also showed significant relationship while no relationship was shown between other gingival phenotype parameters.
