This work reports the electrical and thermal transport processes in p-type Pb-doped Mg3(1+x)Sb2-yPby (0.02 ≤ x ≤ 0.08; 0 ≤ y ≤ 0.02) compounds. Low-energy electron acceptor defects Mg vacancies are easy to form, which can provide holes and make p-type transport in the Mg3Sb2 matrix. However, with an increase in excess Mg, the transport behavior changes from p type to n type as manifested synergistically by both the Hall coefficient and Seebeck coefficient. This indicates the effective role of Mg in tuning carrier type and concentration for a pristine Mg3Sb2 compound. Upon substitution of Sb by Pb, the hole concentration slightly increases, and mobility is greatly improved by 133% at room temperature. The significant increase in mobility is attributed to the weakening ionized impurity scattering, stemming from the decreasing concentration induced by Pb doping. Thus, the power factor is enhanced with a 146% improvement at room temperature. Consequently, the figure of merit ZT of the Pb-doped sample is 1.8 times larger than the pristine one at around 300 K. Moreover, the non-degenerate transport behavior revealed by electrical properties is simply analyzed regarding the effects of minority carriers on the overall Seebeck coefficient. This study proposes a new strategy of charge compensation for improving mobility and a simple way to guide the prediction about the onset of bipolar conduction for Mg3Sb2-based compounds and other potential thermoelectric materials.Flexible and transformable molecules, particularly those responding to external stimuli, are needed for designing sensors and porous compounds capable of storing or separating gases and liquids. First, the adsorption of Li, Na and Mg is generally more stable in the defective MoS2/graphene structure. Mg and Li prefer to diffuse in the structure with disulfide defects, while Na prefers to diffuse in the molybdenum defective structure. Next, we found that the atomic configurations of both pristine and defective MoS2/graphene are not restored to their original states after the insertion and removal of Li, Na and Mg, which is related to the irreversible capacity loss of the system. Furthermore, by excluding the amount of lithium atoms related to the unrestored sulfur atoms, an algorithm was proposed to calculate the reversible capacity and it was verified by experimental results. We have also demonstrated that the introduction of defects leads to significant increase in the theoretical capacities of the Na and Mg systems, however, decreasing the capacity retention rate of Mg.Food source has a significant impact on levels of fatty acids and their derivatives, fatty acid ethanolamides (FAEs), in the small intestine and brain. Among non-essential fatty acids, oleic acid and its FAE acutely reduce food intake. This study tested the hypothesis that α-linolenic acid and linoleic acid mediate acute suppression of food intake through their corresponding FAEs, α-linolenoylethanolamide and linoleoylethanolamide, respectively. To allow for the differentiation of the effects of FAEs and their parent fatty acids, male Wistar rats were injected intraperitoneally with α-linolenic acid, linoleic acid, α-linolenoylethanolamide and linoleoylethanolamide after a 12-hour overnight fast. Short-term food intake, plasma and brain FAE status, and plasma concentrations of insulin and leptin were measured to determine whether these hormones mediate the anorectic effect of FAEs. Both ethanolamides, but not their parent fatty acids, acutely suppressed food intake up to one hour post-treatment and this effect was independent of insulin and leptin hormones.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and miRNAs (miRNAs) participate in tumors, while the effects of lncRNA OIP5 antisense RNA 1 (OIP5-AS1) and miR-129-5p on glioblastoma (GBM) remain to be further studied. We aim to explore the role of OIP5-AS1/miR-129-5p/insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA-binding protein 2 (IGF2BP2) axis in GBM progression.
OIP5-AS1, miR-129-5p and IGF2BP2 expression in tissues was determined. Temozolomide (TMZ)-resistant GBM cells were established and transfected with relative plasmid to alter OIP5-AS1, IGF2BP2 or miR-129-5p expression. Then, the viability, proliferation, apoptosis and in vivo tumor growth were assessed. The subcellular localization of OIP5-AS1 was determined, and the binding relationships between OIP5-AS1 and miR-129-5p, and between miR-129-5p and IGF2BP2 were confirmed.
OIP5-AS1 and IGF2BP2 were upregulated whereas miR-129-5p was downregulated in GBM. OIP5-AS1 silencing or miR-129-5p overexpression inhibited GBM cell chemoresistance to TMZ and proliferation, and promoted cell apoptosis. MiR-129-5p downregulation or IGF2BP2 upregulation reversed the role of OIP5-AS1 silencing on GBM cells. OIP5-AS1 sponged miR-129-5p and miR-129-5p targeted IGF2BP2.

OIP5-AS1 inhibition upregulated miR-129-5p to repress resistance to TMZ in GBM cells via downregulating IGF2BP2.Smelting of nonferrous metals causes significant concerns because of its emissions of heavy metals (HMs) into surface soil, and its potential threat to human health through the food chain. To investigate the HMs concentrations in a soil-maize system, a total of 41 paired soil-maize samples were collected from a typical indigenous zinc-smelting area of northwestern Guizhou Province, China. Results showed that the concentrations of the targeted HMs in the soil were significantly higher than their corresponding background values of Guizhou Province. Results obtained of the geo-accumulation index (Igeo) and the potential ecological risk factor of an individual metal (E r i ) revealed that Cd and Pb were identified as the top-priority control HMs in the study area. The mean concentrations in maize grain decreased in the order of Zn > Pb > Cu > Cd. Bio-accumulation factor (BAF) indicated a strong ability for Cd to be accumulated in the maize root. Translocation factor (TF) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy revealed that the maize root played an important role in reducing the mobilization of HMs to stem, except for Zn. Kriging interpolation results illustrated that the spatial distribution patterns of HMs in the maize grain were generally similar to those in sampled soil, and the higher concentrations for the investigated HMs were partially overlapping between soil and maize grain. The average hazard quotient (HQ) of the investigated HMs for both children and adults were all lower than the threshold value (HQ = 1). The total hazard index (HI) was 5.51E-01 and 4.24E-01 for the two population groups, respectively, implying no potential non-carcinogenic risk for local maize-consumers. Sensitivity analysis demonstrated that the oral ingestion rate (IngR) of grain was the predominated contribution to the output of the risk assessment.Complicated grief (CG) is a form of unrelenting grief after the death of a loved one. However, family members of individuals who suffer from Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective disorders and Bipolar disorder may experience symptoms of CG even though their loved one is still alive. The present study assessed CG and risk factors for CG in first degree relatives of individuals with severe chronic mental illness. The incidence of CG was examined in 78 parents, siblings, adult children and spouses recruited through organizations and social media that provide support services for individuals suffering from mental illness and their families. High rates of CG (39.7%) were found in this group. CG was associated with a higher prevalence of posttraumatic and depression symptoms and poorer physical health. These findings may contribute to heightening therapists' awareness of the importance of assessing, acknowledging and resolving CG in the family members of patients with chronic psychotic disorders.
The role of surgery for circumscribed synchronous hepatic lesions of the pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) remains controversial. Thus, the aim of our study was to compare survival outcome (OS) after surgery of patients with hepatic metastases (M1surg) to patients with only localized disease.
Correlation analysis of clinicopathological data and OS after resection of M1surg patients and patients with localized PDACs (M0) was performed. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/imd-0354.html Patients were included for survival analysis only if a complete staging including perineural, venous and lymphatic invasion was available.
Out of the study collective, 35 patients received extended surgery (M1surg), whereas 131 patients received standardized surgery for localized disease (M0). Length of hospitalization and mortality was similar in both groups. FOLFIRNOX as an adjuvant treatment regime was administered in ~ 23 and ~ 8% of M1surg and M0 patients, respectively. In subgroup analysis of R0 resected patients and in multivariate analysis of the total cohortmulticenter studies are still needed to validate our results.
Cockayne syndrome (CS), which was discovered by Alfred Cockayne nearly 75 years ago, is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by growth failure, neurological dysfunction, premature aging, and other clinical features including microcephaly, ophthalmologic abnormalities, dental caries, and cutaneous photosensitivity. These alterations are caused by mutations in the CSA or CSB genes, both of which are involved in transcription-coupled nucleotide excision repair (TC-NER), the sub-pathway of NER that rapidly removes UV-induced DNA lesions which block the progression of the transcription machinery in the transcribed strand of active genes. Several studies assumed that CSA and CSB genes can play additional roles outside TC-NER, due to the wide variations in type and severity of the CS phenotype and the lack of a clear relationship between genotype and phenotype. To address this issue, our lab generated isogenic cell lines expressing wild type as well as different versions of mutated CSA proteins, fused at the C-terminus with the Flag and HA epitope tags (CSA

This study was designed to describe health care resource utilization (HCRU) of patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (CRC) or gastric cancer to test the hypothesis that greater treatment variability would be associated with increased HCRU.
A retrospective observational study using Marketscan claims data was conducted. Eligible patients had a first diagnosis of metastatic CRC or gastric cancer between 2004 and 2015 and must have received systemic anti-cancer therapy after diagnosis. Treatment variability was measured using the Herfindahl-Hirschman Index (HHI). HHI scores were stratified by quartile. HCRU variables were evaluated throughout the follow-up period and described by 6-month periods. Chi-square test was used for categorical variables and ANOVA for continuous variables.
A total of 55,403 CRC and 9,073 gastric cancer patients were eligible. First-line HHI scores ranged from 0.1304-0.2778 for CRC and 0.0383-0.1778 for gastric cancer by state of residence. Statistically significant differencesiables were observed. Therefore, this study failed to reject the null hypothesis of equivalent HCRU by level of treatment variability.

Full-field ERG (ffERG) and pattern ERG (pERG) were barely recordable. UWF-FAF showed central macular hyper-autofluorescence (hyperAF). KP (III4e and V4e) was normal in two eyes, restricted nasally in four eyes, superior wedge defect in two eyes and undetectable in two eyes. The four restricted nasally KPs became worse, while the others stayed almost unchanged.
This cohort showed early visual loss, moderately rapid EZ reduction and macular hyperAF. EZ, CMT, and BCVA were consistently reduced. Relative rapid decline in these biomarkers reflecting visual function suggests an early and narrow timespan for intervention.

A total of 649 pregnant women who scored positive for clinical significance of fetal chromosome abnormalities by NIPS were enrolled in our study, including T 13 (6%), T18 (14.3%), T21 (44.7%), SCAs (35.0%). From the following diagnostic test, the positive predictive value (PPV) of NIPS for T13, T18, T21, and SCAs was 17.9, 60.2, 89.3, and 43.6% respectively. FISH analys of positive NIPS of T13, T18, T21, and SCAs, FISH was equally efficacious in identifying aneuploidies and provided a quick diagnosis to alleviate anxiety. This study aims to characterize the treatment of nail diseases at ED visits in the United States from 2009-2018.
Data from 2009-2018 was collected from the National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey for EDs.
There was an estimated 1.54 (95% CI [1.35, 1.74]) million nail visits to the ED from 2009-2018. Whites accounted for the most visits (57%), followed by African Americans (21%). 25-44-year-olds was the age group with the most visits. The South was the region with the most visits (33%). The most common diagnosis was paronychia (42%). Treatments for paronychia included oral antibiotics, incision and drainage, or both.
The accuracy of reporting the correct diagnosis remains the biggest limitation.

This study was designed to describe health care resource utilization (HCRU) of patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (CRC) or gastric cancer to test the hypothesis that greater treatment variability would be associated with increased HCRU. A retrospective observational study using Marketscan claims data was conducted. Eligible patients had a first diagnosis of metastatic CRC or gastric cancer between 2004 and 2015 and must have received systemic anti-cancer therapy after diagnosis. Treatment variability was measured using the Herfindahl-Hirschman Index (HHI). HHI scores were stratified by quartile. HCRU variables were evaluated throughout the follow-up period and described by 6-month periods. Chi-square test was used for categorical variables and ANOVA for continuous variables. A total of 55,403 CRC and 9,073 gastric cancer patients were eligible. First-line HHI scores ranged from 0.1304-0.2778 for CRC and 0.0383-0.1778 for gastric cancer by state of residence. Statistically significant differencesiables were observed. Therefore, this study failed to reject the null hypothesis of equivalent HCRU by level of treatment variability. EFDC-LSTM achieves high-precision HABs forecasting in a cost-effective manner, providing a reliable way to detect HABs in advance.Municipal biosolids are commonly used to fertilize Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) plantations in the Pacific Northwest. An intensive soil sampling was conducted to quantify the effects of long-term biosolids application on soil carbon, nitrogen and bulk density for forest soils. This information was used to calculate a carbon balance for biosolids use in commercial tree plantations. Paired control and treated sites on two soil series (Klaus and Tokul) were included with samples collected to a 30 cm depth. A significant decrease in bulk density for two depths, but no changes in total C or N were observed in the Klaus soil. In the Tokul soil, biosolids fertilization increased C storage (total C * bulk density) for three of the four measured depths, resulting in an increase in total C from 112.8 Mg C ha-1 to 172 Mg C ha-1 for the 0-30 cm depth. A comparable increase in N was observed, with significant increases in N storage for all measured depths. The C balance considered fuel use associated with transport and application as costs. The fertilizer (N and P) content of the biosolids and changes in soil C were considered as credits. The balance showed net sequestration for both soil series. Carbon benefits for the Klaus soil totaled -0.2 Mg CO2 per Mg biosolids. Benefits in the Tokul soil totaled -5.15 Mg CO2 per Mg biosolids. Based on diameter at breast height (DBH) biosolids use also resulted in increased tree growth for both soil series. However, differences in stand age and stocking rate complicated interpretation of these results.This study aimed to develop a novel strategy for tailor-made volatile fatty acid (VFA) composition. For this purpose, the mixed microbial culture was bioaugmented by Propionibacterium acidipropionici. Anaerobic sequencing batch reactors were operated with cheese wastewater under alkali pH. While the maximum propionic acid production almost four times increased (3779 ± 201 mgCODeq propionic acid/L in the bioaugmented reactor and 942 ± 172 mgCODeq propionic acid/L in the control reactor), there was no significant difference in VFA composition. The gene copy number of P.acidipropionici increased 20 times after the bioaugmentation. Furthermore, the gene copy number of P.acidipropionici was positively correlated with total VFA and isovaleric acid concentration. The relative abundance of family Flavobacteriaceae increased in the bioaugmented reactor, which might be caused by the syntrophic relation between Flavobacteriaceae and P. acidipropionici. The cycle analysis results showed that the shorter cycle (6h) could ensure the same efficiency.
The effect of comorbidities on the prognosis of myasthenia gravis (MG) remains unclear. In particular, the role of other autoimmune diseases (AD) is controversial.
In this retrospective single-center cohort study, we investigated 154 consecutive generalized thymectomized MG patients, with a mean follow-up time of 8.6 (±5.0) years post-thymectomy. Comorbidities diagnosed at any timepoint were retrieved from medical records and Charlson comorbidity index (CCI) scores were calculated. Patients were categorized into subgroups MG alone (n=45) and MG with any comorbidity (n=109); the latter was further categorized into MG with other ADs (n=33) and MG with non-AD comorbidities (n=76). The endpoints analyzed were complete stable remission (CSR), minimal need for medications, and need for in-hospital treatments.
CSR was more frequent in MG alone than in MG with any comorbidity group (26.7% vs 8.3%, p=0.004). Minimal need for medication was reached more often in the MG alone than in the MG with non-AD comorbidities group (p=0.047). Need for in-hospital treatments was lower in the MG alone group than in MG patients with any comorbidity (p=0.046). Logistic regression analysis revealed that lower CCI scores increased the likelihood of CSR (p=0.033). Lower CCI scores were more prevalent both in patients with minimal need for medication and in patients who did not need in-hospital treatments (p<0.001).

We describe, for the first time, the biological role of a new alkyl-ether-lipid on TRPV2 channel trafficking in breast cancer cells and highlight the potential modulation of TRPV2 by alkyl-ether-lipids as a novel avenue for research in the treatment of metastatic cancer.

To meet the updated environmental emission standard, the NTP catalysis reaction system needs to be better understood and further optimized. In this work, the degradation process of benzene in NTP, which is still regarded as a "black box" process, was explored by synchrotron vacuum ultraviolet photoionization mass spectrometry (SVUV-PIMS). For the first time, we observed over 20 representative species by PIMS and identified their structures accurately by photoionization efficiency (PIE) spectra. Phenol, acetylene and acrolein were recognized as the three main products. More intriguingly, concentration profiles demonstrated that a large amount of acrolein and also several higher-order products, which were usually neglected in previous research, were produced during the NTP destruction process. The details of the benzene degradation reaction mechanism, were finally established by the combination of SVUV-PIMS results, thermochemistry and theoretical calculations. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the effects and intrinsic mechanisms of EPs, including microplastics, engineered nanomaterials, disinfection byproducts, pharmaceuticals, and personal care products, on the occurrence and dissemination of ARGs. State-of-the-art methods for identifying culture-independent ARG-host interactions and monitoring horizontal gene transfer (HGT) processes in real-time are first reviewed. The contributions of EPs to the abundance and diversity of ARGs are then summarized. Finally, we discussed the underlying mechanisms related to the regulation of HGT, increased mutagenesis, and the evolution of microbial communities. Further details of three HGT (i.e., conjugation, transformation, and transduction) frequency patterns in response to various EPs are also examined. To meet the updated environmental emission standard, the NTP catalysis reaction system needs to be better understood and further optimized. In this work, the degradation process of benzene in NTP, which is still regarded as a "black box" process, was explored by synchrotron vacuum ultraviolet photoionization mass spectrometry (SVUV-PIMS). For the first time, we observed over 20 representative species by PIMS and identified their structures accurately by photoionization efficiency (PIE) spectra. Phenol, acetylene and acrolein were recognized as the three main products. More intriguingly, concentration profiles demonstrated that a large amount of acrolein and also several higher-order products, which were usually neglected in previous research, were produced during the NTP destruction process. The details of the benzene degradation reaction mechanism, were finally established by the combination of SVUV-PIMS results, thermochemistry and theoretical calculations. This work helps to complete the mechanistic picture of plasma chemistry, which may be helpful on raveling the more complicated NTP catalysis mechanism in the future therefore contributing to design of improved NTP system for environmental applications.The emergence and spread of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) have become major concerns for both public health and environmental ecosystems. Emerging pollutants (EPs) that accumulate in environmental compartments also pose a potential risk for the enrichment of ARGs in indigenous microorganisms. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the effects and intrinsic mechanisms of EPs, including microplastics, engineered nanomaterials, disinfection byproducts, pharmaceuticals, and personal care products, on the occurrence and dissemination of ARGs. State-of-the-art methods for identifying culture-independent ARG-host interactions and monitoring horizontal gene transfer (HGT) processes in real-time are first reviewed. The contributions of EPs to the abundance and diversity of ARGs are then summarized. Finally, we discussed the underlying mechanisms related to the regulation of HGT, increased mutagenesis, and the evolution of microbial communities. Further details of three HGT (i.e., conjugation, transformation, and transduction) frequency patterns in response to various EPs are also examined. This review contemplates and reassesses the risks of ARG evolution posed by the manufacture and application of EPs.A versatile green synthesis technique of pulsed laser irradiation and the sonochemical process was used for the production of functionalized gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) in the presence of lignin matrixes. In this study, the futuristic advantages of the lignin biopolymer were explored for the preparation of zero-valent Au NPs in the absence of any other reducing agents. The resulting lignin functionalized Au NPs (L-Auf NPs) were characterized via high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, UV-vis spectroscopy, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. The optimum lignin concentration can generate uniformly dispersed crystalline L-Auf NPs. The optimized L-Auf (1-5) NPs permit the selective colorimetric detection of heavy metal ions; thus, the L-Auf (1-5) NPs demonstrated a highly selective colorimetric sensing tendency toward Pb2+ ions within a short time interval among the various metal ions (Pb2+, Fe3+, Cu2+, Cr6+, Co2+, Ag2+, Ca2+, Cd2+, Ba2+, and Hg2+). Nano- and microcrystalline ZnO is an inexpensive, easily synthesized material with a multitude of applications. Its usefulness in the present and future stems from its exceptional optoelectronic, structural, and chemical characteristics as well as a broad range of production techniques. One application comes from its ability to inhibit bacterial growth. Despite the well-documented, vigorously studied antimicrobial action of ZnO particles, the most fundamental physical and chemical mechanisms driving growth inhibition are still not well identified. Particularly, the nature of interactions between ZnO surfaces and extracellular material is not totally clear. This is important given the anisotropic lattice of ZnO leading to two characteristically different lattice terminations polar and nonpolar, polar being electrically charged with many defect sites and nonpolar being electrically neutral while remaining relatively defect-free. In this work, we employ a hydrothermal growth protocol that allows us to produce ZnO microcrystals with dependable control of morphology and, particularly, the relative abundances of polar and nonpolar free surfaces. This functions as a platform for our investigations into surface-surface interactions behind the antibacterial action of ZnO microcrystals. In our studies, we produced ZnO crystals comparable in size or larger than Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. This was done intentionally to ensure that the ZnO particles would not internalize into the bacterial cells. Our experiments were performed in conjunction with surface photovoltage studies of ZnO crystals to characterize electronic structure and charge dynamics that might be contributing to the antibacterial properties of our samples. We report on the interactions between ZnO microcrystalline surfaces and extracellular material of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic human pathogen implicated in both acute and chronic diseases, which resists antibiotic treatment, in part by forming physical and chemical barriers such as biofilms. Here, we explore the use of confocal Raman imaging to characterize the three-dimensional (3D) spatial distribution of alkyl quinolones (AQs) in P. aeruginosa biofilms by reconstructing depth profiles from hyperspectral Raman data. AQs are important to quorum sensing (QS), virulence, and other actions of P. aeruginosa. Three-dimensional distributions of three different AQs (PQS, HQNO, and HHQ) were observed to have a significant depth, suggesting 3D anisotropic shapes-sheet-like rectangular solids for HQNO and extended cylinders for PQS. Similar to observations from 2D imaging studies, spectral features characteristic of AQs (HQNO or PQS) and the amide I vibration from peptide-containing species were found to correlate with the PQS cylinders typically located at the tips of the HQNO rectangular solids. In the QS-deficient mutant lasIrhlI, a small globular component was observed, whose highly localized nature and similarity in size to a P. aeruginosa cell suggest that the feature arises from HHQ localized in the vicinity of the cell from which it was secreted. The difference in the shapes and sizes of the aggregates of the three AQs in wild-type and mutant P. aeruginosa is likely related to the difference in the cellular response to growth conditions, environmental stress, metabolic levels, or other structural and biochemical variations inside biofilms. This study provides a new route to characterizing the 3D structure of biofilms and shows the potential of confocal Raman imaging to elucidate the nature of heterogeneous biofilms in all three spatial dimensions. Specifically, on NiAu SAAs, the iodine atoms outcompete the methyl groups for occupancy of the Ni sites leaving the Me groups on Au, while on PdAu SAAs, the binding strengths of methyl groups and iodine atoms at the Pd atom active site are more similar.

Cancer research on sexual and gender minority (SGM) populations is gaining momentum. The purpose of this systematic review was to examine what is currently known in the research literature regarding patient-reported health outcomes after cancer treatment among SGM populations.
In March 2021, a medical librarian conducted a systematic keyword search on PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, PsycINFO, ClinicalTrials.gov , and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials. The primary inclusion criterion was assessment of at least one physical, psychosocial, emotional, or functional patient-reported health outcome related to the impacts of cancer diagnosis and/or treatment. Articles that met inclusion criteria were reviewed in their entirety, charted in a Word Table, and assessed for quality. Quality considerations included study design, sampling approach, diversity of sample, measures used, and analytic procedures. Studies were synthesized based on type of cancer study participants experienced.

There is no common approach to delayed interval delivery.
A 31-year-old East African lady with spontaneous triplet pregnancy presented to our institution at gestation age of 19weeks with features of threatened miscarriage. One fetus was miscarried, and delayed interval delivery was done as an outpatient. At gestation age of 35weeks, she delivered healthy twins by cesarean section.

The diversity of available TE-related methods and resources raises compatibility concerns and can be overwhelming to researchers and communicators seeking straightforward guidance or materials. To address these challenges, we have initiated a new resource, TE Hub, that provides a space where members of the TE community can collaborate to document and create resources and methods. The space consists of (1) a website organized with an open wiki framework, https//tehub.org , (2) a conversation framework via a Twitter account and a Slack channel, and (3) bi-monthly Hub Update video chats on the platform's development. Autistic people and those with high autistic traits are at high risk of experiencing suicidality. Yet, there are no suicidality assessment tools developed or validated for these groups.
A widely used and validated suicidality assessment tool developed for the general population (SBQ-R), was adapted using feedback from autistic adults, to create the Suicidal Behaviours Questionnaire-Autism Spectrum Conditions (SBQ-ASC). The adapted tool was refined through nine interviews, and an online survey with 251 autistic adults, to establish clarity and relevance of the items. Subsequently, 308 autistic, 113 possibly autistic, and 268 non-autistic adults completed the adapted tool online, alongside self-report measures of autistic traits (AQ), camouflaging autistic traits (CAT-Q), depression (PHQ-9), anxiety (ASA-A), thwarted belongingness and perceived burdensomeness (INQ-15), lifetime non-suicidal self-injury, and the original version of the suicidality assessment tool (SBQ-R). Analyses explored the appropriatenes not appropriate to compare to non-autistic adults given measurement differences between these groups.
The SBQ-ASC is a brief self-report suicidality assessment tool, developed and validated with and for autistic adults, without co-occurring intellectual disability. The SBQ-ASC is appropriate for use in research to identify suicidal thoughts and behaviours in autistic and possibly autistic people, and model associations with risk and protective factors.

Core outcome sets (COS) should be relevant to key stakeholders and widely applicable and usable. Ideally, they are developed for international use to allow optimal data synthesis from trials. Electronic Delphi surveys are commonly used to facilitate global participation; however, this has limitations. It is common for these surveys to be conducted in a single language potentially excluding those not fluent in that tongue. The aim of this study is to summarise current approaches for optimising international participation in Delphi studies and make recommendations for future practice.
A comprehensive literature review of current approaches to translating Delphi surveys for COS development was undertaken. A standardised methodology adapted from international guidance derived from 12 major sets of translation guidelines in the field of outcome reporting was developed. As a case study, this was applied to a COS project for surgical trials in gastric cancer to translate a Delphi survey into 7 target languages from regions active in gastric cancer research.

Autistic people and those with high autistic traits are at high risk of experiencing suicidality. Yet, there are no suicidality assessment tools developed or validated for these groups. A widely used and validated suicidality assessment tool developed for the general population (SBQ-R), was adapted using feedback from autistic adults, to create the Suicidal Behaviours Questionnaire-Autism Spectrum Conditions (SBQ-ASC). The adapted tool was refined through nine interviews, and an online survey with 251 autistic adults, to establish clarity and relevance of the items. Subsequently, 308 autistic, 113 possibly autistic, and 268 non-autistic adults completed the adapted tool online, alongside self-report measures of autistic traits (AQ), camouflaging autistic traits (CAT-Q), depression (PHQ-9), anxiety (ASA-A), thwarted belongingness and perceived burdensomeness (INQ-15), lifetime non-suicidal self-injury, and the original version of the suicidality assessment tool (SBQ-R). Analyses explored the appropriatenes not appropriate to compare to non-autistic adults given measurement differences between these groups. Electronic Delphi surveys are commonly used to facilitate global participation; however, this has limitations. It is common for these surveys to be conducted in a single language potentially excluding those not fluent in that tongue. The aim of this study is to summarise current approaches for optimising international participation in Delphi studies and make recommendations for future practice. A comprehensive literature review of current approaches to translating Delphi surveys for COS development was undertaken. A standardised methodology adapted from international guidance derived from 12 major sets of translation guidelines in the field of outcome reporting was developed. Land-use intensification is a major driver of biodiversity loss. However, understanding how different components of land use drive biodiversity loss requires the investigation of multiple trophic levels across spatial scales. We also show through an extensive theoretical analysis that the gap further implies the existence of a quantum order-by-disorder mechanism that, in this material, crucially involves virtual crystal field fluctuations. Our data also provide an experimental observation of a universal winding of the scattering intensity in angular scans around linear band-touching points for both magnons and dispersive spin-orbit excitons, which is directly related to the non-trivial topology of the quasiparticle wavefunction in momentum space near nodal points.Although macrophages are recognized as important players in the pathogenesis of chronic liver diseases, their roles in cholestatic liver fibrosis remain incompletely understood. We previously reported that long noncoding RNA-H19 (lncRNA-H19) contributes to cholangiocyte proliferation and cholestatic liver fibrosis of biliary atresia (BA). We here show that monocyte/macrophage CD11B mRNA levels are increased significantly in livers of BA patients and positively correlated with the progression of liver inflammation and fibrosis. The macrophages increasingly infiltrate and accumulate in the fibrotic niche and peribiliary areas in livers of BA patients. Selective depletion of macrophages using the transgenic CD11b-diphtheria toxin receptor (CD11b-DTR) **** halts bile duct ligation (BDL)-induced progression of liver damage and fibrosis. Meanwhile, macrophage depletion significantly reduces the BDL-induced hepatic lncRNA-H19. Overexpression of H19 in livers using adeno-associated virus serotype 9 (AAV9) counteracts the effects of macrophage depletion on liver fibrosis and cholangiocyte proliferation. Additionally, both H19 knockout (H19-/-) and conditional deletion of H19 in macrophage (H19ΔCD11B) significantly depress the macrophage polarization and recruitment. lncRNA-H19 overexpressed in THP-1 macrophages enhance expression of Rho-GTPase CDC42 and RhoA. In conclusions, selectively depletion of macrophages suppresses cholestatic liver injuries and fibrosis via the lncRNA-H19 and represents a potential therapeutic strategy for rapid liver fibrosis in BA patients.Due to the absence of curative treatments for glioblastoma (GBM), we assessed the efficacy of single and combination treatments with a translationally relevant 2nd generation TRAIL-receptor agonist (IZI1551) and the blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeant proteasome inhibitor marizomib in a panel of patient-derived glioblastoma cell lines. These cells were cultured using protocols that maintain the characteristics of primary tumor cells. IZI1551+marizomib combination treatments synergistically induced apoptotic cell death in the majority of cases, both in 2D, as well as in 3D spheroid cultures. In contrast, single-drug treatments largely failed to induce noticeable amounts of cell death. Kinetic analyses suggested that time-shifted drug exposure might further increase responsiveness, with marizomib pre-treatments indeed strongly enhancing cell death. Cell death responses upon the addition of IZI1551 could also be observed in GBM cells that were kept in a medium collected from the basolateral side of a human hCMEC/D3 BBB model that had been exposed to marizomib. Interestingly, the subset of GBM cell lines resistant to IZI1551+marizomib treatments expressed lower surface amounts of TRAIL death receptors, substantially lower amounts of procaspase-8, and increased amounts of cFLIP, suggesting that apoptosis initiation was likely too weak to initiate downstream apoptosis execution. Indeed, experiments in which the mitochondrial apoptosis threshold was lowered by antagonizing Mcl-1 re-established sensitivity to IZI1551+marizomib in otherwise resistant cells. Overall, our study demonstrates a high efficacy of combination treatments with a latest-generation TRAIL receptor agonist and the BBB permeant proteasome inhibitor marizomib in relevant GBM cell models, as well as strategies to further enhance responsiveness and to sensitize subgroups of otherwise resistant GBM cases.

Emerging adulthood is a turning point in the life cycle with regard mental health. To assess psychological distress and attachment styles 688 university students of which 370 requested a counselling support responded to Symptom Checklist 90 Revised and Attachment Style Questionnaire. Counselling attending students (vs counselling non-attending students) have a higher psychological risk profile, with more psychological distress and insecure attachment. A marked percentage of students not attending counselling presents psychological distress. In both groups associations emerged between psychopathological problems and insecure attachment. The importance of communication strategies aimed to those students who, albeit non requesting psychological help, display psychological distress is discussed.
A patient with undiagnosed tracheomalacia undergoing surgery experienced accidental expiratory central airway collapse after tracheal intubation. Here, we aimed to diagnose tracheomalacia from the preoperative data.
A 73-year-old man, scheduled for abdominal surgery, had a clinical history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Preoperative chest computed tomography revealed a lateral narrowing of the tracheal shape. After tracheal intubation, we could not manually ventilate the inflated lung. Emergent bronchoscopy findings, including severe expiratory tracheal collapse, indicated a diagnosis of tracheomalacia. We could fully ventilate the patient by moving the endotracheal tube near the tracheal carina and finally changing it to a double-lumen tube. Airway collapse did not occur under spontaneous breathing.
Accidental expiratory central airway collapse could occur in patients with undiagnosed tracheomalacia during surgery. A diagnosis of tracheomalacia should be presumed from a deformed trachea on preoperative imaging and history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

This study aimed to evaluate the frequency of AMEs and 16S rRNA methylase genes among aminoglycoside non-susceptible Acinetobacter baumannii isolates and to assess their clonal relationship using repetitive extragenic palindromic-PCR (rep-PCR). In this cross-sectional study, a total of 192 A. baumannii isolates were collected from the patients hospitalized in Qazvin, Iran (January 2016 to January 2018). Identification of isolates was performed by standard laboratory methods and API 20E strips. Antimicrobial susceptibility was determined by Kirby-Bauer method followed by examination of the genes encoding the AMEs and 16S RMTase by PCR and sequencing methods. The clonal relationship of isolates was carried out by rep-PCR. In total, 98.4% of isolates were non-susceptible to aminoglycosides, 98.4%, 97.9% and 83.9% of isolates were found to be non-susceptible against gentamicin, tobramycin and amikacin, respectively. The frequencies of aph(3')-VI, aac(6')-Ib, aac(3)-II, aph(3')-Ia and armA genes were 59.3%, 39.2%, 39.2%, 31.7% and 69.8%, respectively, either alone or in combination. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/zavondemstat.html Rep-PCR results showed that the aminoglycoside non-susceptible isolates belonged to three distinct clones A (79.4%), B (17.5%) and C (3.2%). One of the best candidates for this strategy is a natural plant or traditional herbal medicine. This review aimed to summarize and introduce Iranian medicinal plants with anti-QS properties. Biomedical databases (PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar and Web of sciences) were investigated to retrieve all related manuscripts published in English and Persian. Out of 65 documents, 47 papers were published during 2010-2020. We categorized and summarized 19 papers that particularly presented the anti-QS activity of Iranian medicinal plants. Based on our results, different studies have been completed on the QQ effects of medicinal plants. We identified 106 plant species with different properties in medicine that have been evaluated for anti-QS activities in Iran. The QQ effects of herbal extracts were identified through different in vitro examinations on biosensor and clinical bacterial strains. Only 35 medicinal plants have shown these effects at sub-****. Our review summarizes Iranian medicinal plants with anti-QS properties. Some of these herbal extracts showed anti-QS activity against biosensors, standard and clinical bacterial strains. This result is very important because QS systems can be considered as a new target for the development of new remedial strategies and it is a good opportunity to perform QQ studies to effectively combat bacterial infections in the future.Actinomyces turicensis was first identified in 1995. It is occasionally diagnosed during the postpartum period or in patients with ovarian malignancy. Few cases of pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) caused by OVT have been reported previously. We report the case of a 67-year-old woman who presented with fatal PTE due to left OVT during hospitalization for cerebral infarction. The left ovary of the postmenopausal elderly patient showed no tumorous appearance. This case of OVT is extremely rare because of its idiopathic nature and fatal result.

Rational administration of aminoglycosides as well as using an appropriate infection control policy may reduce the presence of resistance to antibiotics in medical centres.Anti-quorum sensing (QS) or quorum quenching (QQ) is known as a new anti-bacterial strategy to combat bacterial infection. One of the best candidates for this strategy is a natural plant or traditional herbal medicine. This review aimed to summarize and introduce Iranian medicinal plants with anti-QS properties. Biomedical databases (PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar and Web of sciences) were investigated to retrieve all related manuscripts published in English and Persian. Out of 65 documents, 47 papers were published during 2010-2020. We categorized and summarized 19 papers that particularly presented the anti-QS activity of Iranian medicinal plants. Based on our results, different studies have been completed on the QQ effects of medicinal plants. We identified 106 plant species with different properties in medicine that have been evaluated for anti-QS activities in Iran. The QQ effects of herbal extracts were identified through different in vitro examinations on biosensor and clinical bacterial strains. Only 35 medicinal plants have shown these effects at sub-MICs. Our review summarizes Iranian medicinal plants with anti-QS properties. Some of these herbal extracts showed anti-QS activity against biosensors, standard and clinical bacterial strains. This result is very important because QS systems can be considered as a new target for the development of new remedial strategies and it is a good opportunity to perform QQ studies to effectively combat bacterial infections in the future.Actinomyces turicensis was first identified in 1995. In the case reported herein, a patient with pleural empyema was treated surgically, and in the bacterial samples, A. turicensis was isolated.Trueperella bernardiae is a skin flora organism with few reported cases of pathology. We present the first known case of T. bernardiae as a causative agent of a prosthetic hip infection with subsequent hip abscess.Ovarian vein thrombosis (OVT) is observed in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology. It is occasionally diagnosed during the postpartum period or in patients with ovarian malignancy. Few cases of pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) caused by OVT have been reported previously. We report the case of a 67-year-old woman who presented with fatal PTE due to left OVT during hospitalization for cerebral infarction. The left ovary of the postmenopausal elderly patient showed no tumorous appearance.
