Our results revealed a significant increase in myoblast fusion and metabolic activity when exposed to the secretome derived from scleraxis-overexpressing ****. However, we found no significant changes in myoblast migration and myofiber alignment. Further analysis of differentially expressed genes between native **** and scleraxis-overexpressing **** by RNA sequencing unraveled potential candidate genes, i.e., extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins, transmembrane receptors, or proteases that might enhance myoblast fusion. Our results suggest that musculotendinous interaction is essential for the development and healing of skeletal muscles.Serious environmental and human health problems caused by the abuse of antibiotics have attracted worldwide concern. Recently, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with high porosity have drawn wide attention for their effects in the adsorption and removal of pollutants from complex matrices. Herein, a high-stable metal organic framework (MOF), i.e., ((ZnCl2)3(L)2·DMF)n, where L=1,3,5-tris((pyridin-4-ylthio)methyl)benzene), MOF 1, was applied to adsorb and remove tetracycline from sewage and dairy products. The results showed that MOF 1 exhibited a strong performance in the adsorption of tetracycline. The effects of initial pH values, adsorbent dose, contact time and ionic strength of the adsorption performance of MOF 1 were investigated. The adsorption kinetics best fit the pseudo-second order model, and the adsorption isotherms matched the Langmuir adsorption model well. It was indicated that both chemical adsorption and physical adsorption play an important role in the adsorption process, and the adsorption of tetracycline was homogeneous and occurred on a monolayer on the surface of MOF 1. Additionally, the stability of MOF 1 and the details of the adsorption mechanism were also investigated. Thus, this study provides a new candidate for the application of MOFs-based adsorbents in the removal of antibiotics from sewage and dairy products.Bone remodeling is a lifelong process, due to the balanced activity of the osteoblasts (OBs), the bone-forming cells, and osteoclasts (OCs), the bone-resorbing cells. This equilibrium is mainly regulated by the WNT-ß-cathenin pathway and the RANK-RANKL/OPG system, respectively. Bone ageing is a process which normally occurs during life due to the imbalance between bone formation and bone resorption, potentially leading to osteoporosis. Bone loss associated with bone ageing is determined by oxidative stress, the result of the increasing production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). The promotion of physical exercise during growth increases the chances of accruing bone and delaying the onset of osteoporosis. Several studies demonstrate that physical exercise is associated with higher bone mineral density and lower fracture incidence, and the resulting bone mineral gain is maintained with ageing, despite a reduction of physical activity in adulthood. The benefits of exercise are widely recognized, thus physical activity is considered the best non-pharmacologic treatment for pathologies such as osteoporosis, obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. We reviewed the physiological mechanisms which control bone remodeling, the effects of physical activity on bone health, and studies on the impact of exercise in reducing bone ageing.A typical sodium activated calcium bentonite (SACaB) was treated with carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) polymer, called CMC-treated SACaB (CMC-SACaB), and it was investigated for its hydraulic conductivity and enhanced chemical compatibility. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/tvb-3664.html Index property and hydraulic conductivity tests were conducted on CMC-SACaB and SACaB with deionized water (DIW), heavy metals-laden water, and actual landfill leachate. Lead-zinc mixed (Pb-Zn) solution and hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) solution were selected as target heavy metals-laden water, and calcium (Ca) solution was tested for comparison purposes. The hydraulic conductivity (kMFL) was determined via the modified fluid loss (MFL) test. Liquid limit and swell index in DIW, heavy metal-laden water, and Ca solution increased with increasing CMC content. CMC treatment effectively decreased the kMFL of SACaB when exposed to Pb-Zn solutions with a metal concentration of 1 to 20 mmol/L and landfill leachate. An insignificant change in kMFL of CMC-SACaB occurred with exposure to Pb-Zn solutions with metal concentrations of 1 to 10 mmol/L, Cr(VI) and Ca solutions with metal concentration of 1 to 20 mmol/L, and landfill leachate. A slight increase in kMFL of CMC-SACaB was observed when Pb-Zn concentration increased to 20 mmol/L, and such an increment was more noticeable when the CMC content was lower than 10%. In the DIW, the measured kMFL values of CMC-SACaB and SACaB with a given range of void ratio were consistent with those obtained from the flexible-wall permeameter test.Previous studies have shown reduced expression of Src homology 2-containing inositol 5-phosphatase 2 (SHIP2) and its tumor-suppressive role in gastric cancer (GC). However, the precise role of SHIP2 in the migration and invasion of GC cells remains unclear. Here, an IQ motif containing the GTPase-activating protein 2 (IQGAP2) as a SHIP2 binding partner, was screened and identified by co-immunoprecipitation and mass spectrometry studies. While IQGAP2 ubiquitously expressed in GC cells, IQGAP2 and SHIP2 co-localized in the cytoplasm of GC cells, and this physical association was confirmed by the binding of IQGAP2 to PRD and SAM domains of SHIP2. The knockdown of either SHIP2 or IQGAP2 promoted cell migration and invasion by inhibiting SHIP2 phosphatase activity, activating Akt and subsequently increasing epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Furthermore, knockdown of IQGAP2 in SHIP2-overexpressing GC cells reversed the inhibition of cell migration and invasion by SHIP2 induction, which was associated with the suppression of elevated SHIP2 phosphatase activity. Moreover, the deletion of PRD and SAM domains of SHIP2 abrogated the interaction and restored cell migration and invasion. Collectively, these results indicate that IQGAP2 interacts with SHIP2, leading to the increment of SHIP2 phosphatase activity, and thereby inhibiting the migration and invasion of GC cells via the inactivation of Akt and reduction in EMT.

Background and objectives Many studies show that mindfulness can improve quality of life and mental health as well as reduce psychological distress; however, the mechanisms of these effects remain unknown. The mindfulness stress buffering model provides a model for explaining the effects of mindfulness on health outcomes through the mechanism of reducing perceived stress. Therefore, we investigated the mediating role of perceived stress in the relationship between mindfulness and quality of life and mental health.Methods/Design Three hundred and fifteen soldiers completed the Mindful Attention Awareness scale, Perceived Stress Scale, WHO Quality of Life Assessment, and General Health Questionnaire. Structural equation modeling using bootstrap methods was employed to analyze the data. Results Results showed that perceived stress partially mediated the relationship between mindfulness and quality of life, and that perceived stress fully mediated the relationship between mindfulness and mental health. Conclusions Mindfulness yields beneficial effects in improving individuals' quality of life and improving mental health through reducing perceived stress. Some species of Salix sp. (willows) are a potential phytoremediator that can accumulate substantial contents of mineral elements and, therefore, to detoxify soils contaminated with pollutants and heavy metals such as the zinc (Zn). However, high concentrations of Zn inhibit plant growth and reduce biomass production in plants. In an attempt to overcome this inconvenience and to enhance plant tolerance to Zn toxicity, we tested a new tolerance induction approach by acclimation in two clones of Salix pedicellata, named SPK-12 and SP-K20. The approach comprises two successive phases. The first is a "tolerance induction phase" consisting of gradual exposure of plants to low concentrations of Zn sulfate (ZnSO4) at regular intervals until reaching DI100 (ZnSO4 inhibitory concentration). And, the second is a "tolerance maintenance phase" to uphold the acquired tolerance to Zn toxicity. The SP-K20 clone was acclimated to DI100 threshold over 33 days without noticeable symptoms of chlorosis or growth inhibition. Compared to controls, the SP-K20 clone was able to accumulate high concentrations of Zn, suggesting that phytoremediation abilities of S. pedicellata have been improved throughout the applied approach. Acclimated Salix plants might thus improve metal phytoextraction in heavily polluted soils without biomass growth inhibition.BACKGROUND Influenza is a highly contagious acute viral respiratory tract infection. The emergence of influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 in 2009 caused a pandemic. Since then it has become a seasonal influenza virus. It causes symptoms ranging from mild to severe illness, which might be fatal, particularly in people with underlying chronic medical conditions, immunocompromised people, the elderly, and pregnant women. OBJECTIVE Describe the data generated by the influenza A(H1N1) pdm09 surveillance in Saudi Arabia from 2010 to 2016. DESIGN Retrospective, descriptive. SETTING Hospitals reporting to the Ministry of Health. MATERIALS AND METHODS We studied aggregate data on hospitalized cases of influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 in Saudi Arabia between 2010 and 2016. The surveillance system used the case definition proposed by the WHO. The cases were confirmed by performing the real-time PCR (polymerase chain reaction) on upper respiratory samples. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Suspected and confirmed influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 cases. SAMPLE SIZE 113 502 suspected H1N1 cases and 17 094 (15.1%) confirmed cases. RESULTS Most of the reported cases were registered in the Riyadh region. During the period of the study, the highest number of confirmed cases, 9262 (54.2 %), was in 2015. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/fx-909.html The case fatality rate for confirmed cases was 3.6%. CONCLUSION Influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 showed seasonal trends. The number of suspected influenza cases each year was proportionate to the number of confirmed cases for that year. Riyadh, Jeddah and the Eastern areas (regions with the highest population) reported most of the cases. LIMITATION Only one strain of H1N1 was tested. CONFLICT OF INTEREST None.BACKGROUND Medical students are at higher risk of developing alexithymia due to the nature of their studies. OBJECTIVES Determine the prevalence of alexithymia and potential risk factors among medical students in Saudi Arabia. DESIGN A cross-sectional analytic study. SETTINGS University medical school. PATIENTS AND METHODS An institutional cross-sectional survey of medical students was conducted using the Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20) to assess the prevalence of alexithymia and potentially associated factors (gender, parental marital status, grade point average, status of accommodations, smoking status, year of study, childhood abuse, a history of mental illness, and physical activity). MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Gender, parental marital status, grade point average, status of accommodations, smoking status, year of study, childhood abuse, a history of mental illness, and physical activity. SAMPLE SIZE 347. RESULTS The prevalence of alexithymia among medical students was 49% (95% confidence interval [43.8-54.2]). A binary logistic regression model showed significant associations between alexithymia and academic year of study (lower risk of alexithymia in the clerkship (5th, 6th years); odds ratio [OR] 0.43, 95% CI 0.26-0.72), smoking (OR 3.52, 95% CI 1.60-3.34), grade point average (lowest; OR 10.44, 95% CI 4.24-25.77), history of childhood abuse (OR 2, 95% CI 1.20-8.77), and history of psychiatric illness (OR 14.40, 95% CI 4.76-21.06). CONCLUSION Almost half of the medical students suffer from alexithymia. Increasing the awareness about alexithymia among students and directing them where to seek help would facilitate the management of these problems. LIMITATIONS Limited only to medical students from the second year to the sixth year in a single medical college, which affects generalizability. The cross-sectional design might have also limited generalizability. CONFLICT OF INTEREST None. This work presents a literature review concerning the construction, properties and application of different sensors used to detect dimethyl methylphonate (DMMP), which is the simulant of sarin. Sensors sensitive to mass are described, together with such sensors as SAW, QCM, MEMS, also chemical capacitors, semiconductors, and field effect transistors.

The expected positive effects of both sulfur doping and rGO on charge recombination were found to be limited because of the subpar interphase contact with the composite and incomplete reduction of the GO precursor. Consequent unfavorable interactions between rGO and DCF negatively influenced the activity of the studied S-TiO2/rGO photocatalyst under simulated solar irradiation. The molecular complexity of host-pathogen interactions remains poorly understood in many infectious diseases, particularly in humans due to the limited availability of reliable and specific experimental models. To bridge the gap between classical two-dimensional culture systems, which often involve transformed cell lines that may not have all the physiologic properties of primary cells, and in vivo animal studies, researchers have developed the organoid model system. Organoids are complex three-dimensional structures that are generated in vitro from primary cells and can recapitulate key in vivo properties of an organ such as structural organization, multicellularity, and function. In this review, we discuss how organoids have been deployed in exploring Salmonella infection in **** and humans. In addition, we summarize the recent advancements that hold promise to elevate our understanding of the interactions and crosstalk between multiple cell types and the microbiota with Salmonella. These models have the potential for improving clinical outcomes and future prophylactic and therapeutic intervention strategies.About eight years ago, a new automation approach and flow technique called "Lab-In-Syringe" was proposed. It was derived from previous flow techniques, all based on handling reagent and sample solutions in a flow manifold. To date Lab-In-Syringe has evidently gained the interest of researchers in many countries, with new modifications, operation modes, and technical improvements still popping up. It has proven to be a versatile tool for the automation of sample preparation, particularly, liquid-phase microextraction approaches. This article aims to assist newcomers to this technique in system planning and setup by overviewing the different options for configurations, limitations, and feasible operations. This includes syringe orientation, in-syringe stirring modes, in-syringe detection, additional inlets, and addable features. The authors give also a chronological overview of technical milestones and a critical explanation on the potentials and shortcomings of this technique, calculations of characteristics, and tips and tricks on method development. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/enarodustat.html Moreover, a comprehensive overview of the different operation modes of Lab-In-Syringe automated sample pretreatment is given focusing on the technical aspects and challenges of the related operations. We further deal with possibilities on how to fabricate required or useful system components, in particular by 3D printing technology, with over 20 different elements exemplarily shown. Finally, a short discussion on shortcomings and required improvements is given.A series of 3-benzylidenechrmanones 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and their spiropyrazoline analogues 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 were synthesized. X-ray analysis confirms that compounds 2 and 8 crystallize in a monoclinic system in P21/n space groups with one and three molecules in each asymmetric unit. The crystal lattice of the analyzed compounds is enhanced by hydrogen bonds. The primary aim of the study was to evaluate the anti-proliferative potential of 3-benzylidenechromanones and their spiropyrazoline analogues towards four cancer cell lines. Our results indicate that parent compounds 1 and 9 with a phenyl ring at C2 have lower cytotoxic activity against cancer cell lines than their spiropyrazolines analogues. Analysis of IC50 values showed that the compounds 3 and 7 exhibited higher cytotoxic activity against cancer cells, being more active than the reference compound (4-chromanone or quercetin). The results of this study indicate that the incorporation of a pyrazoline ring into the 3-arylideneflavanone results in an improvement of the compounds' activity and therefore it may be of use in the search of new anticancer agents. Further analysis allowed us to demonstrate the compounds to have a strong inhibitory effect on the cell cycle. For instance, compounds 2, 10 induced 60% of HL-60 cells to be arrested in G2/M phase. Using a DNA-cleavage protection assay we also demonstrated that tested compounds interact with DNA. All compounds at the concentrations corresponding to cytotoxic properties are not toxic towards red blood cells, and do not contribute to hemolysis of RBCs.There is a strong need in the industry to develop lead-free piezoelectrics for sensors and actuators. Although these materials have become an important component of many electronic devices, it is very important for the industry to decarbonise ceramic technology, especially through the introduction of modern sintering technologies. Among the many piezoelectric compounds available, Calcium Barium Titanate (BCT) have been widely investigated because of its similar performance to lead-containing Lead Titanate Zirconate (PZT). In this paper, a modified Pechini method for obtaining ceramic Ba0.9Ca0.1TiO3 nano-powders is described. Deviation from the established procedure resulted in the precipitation of the solution or obtaining of a low-quality (poorly crystallized) product with numerous impurities. The samples of BCT materials were examined to find their ideal microstructures and structures; these factors were confirmed by their outstanding X-ray diffraction spectra and high piezoelectric constant values that are comparable to commercial lead-containing materials. The structural, thermal, electrical and mechanical properties of fully dense ****ceramics, sintered using Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS), were studied and compared to the properties of ****ceramics previously published in the literature. New results on ****s mechanical responses were obtained by nanoindentation and ring-on-ring biaxial strength testing. The findings contribute to a more complete knowledge of the properties of ****ceramics, an important material in many industrial applications.

The structural, thermal, electrical and mechanical properties of fully dense B4C ceramics, sintered using Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS), were studied and compared to the properties of B4C ceramics previously published in the literature. New results on B4C's mechanical responses were obtained by nanoindentation and ring-on-ring biaxial strength testing. The findings contribute to a more complete knowledge of the properties of B4C ceramics, an important material in many industrial applications.0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 2 Views 0 Anteprima -
The interaction of non-monochromatic radiation with arrays comprising plasmonic and dielectric nanoparticles has been studied using the finite-difference time-domain electrodynamics method. It is shown that LiNbO3, TiO2, GaAs, Si, and Ge all-dielectric nanoparticle arrays can provide a complete selective reflection of an incident plane wave within a narrow spectral line of collective lattice resonance with a Q-factor of 103 or larger at various spectral ranges, while plasmonic refractory TiN and chemically stable Au nanoparticle arrays provide high-Q resonances with moderate reflectivity. Arrays with fixed dimensional parameters make it possible to fine-tune the position of a selected resonant spectral line by tilting the array relative to the direction of the incident radiation. These effects provide grounds for engineering novel selective tunable optical high-Q filters in a wide range of wavelengths, from visible to middle-IR.An effective experiment scheme is proposed to generate the terahertz (THz) perfect optical vortex (POV) beams by diffractive elements at the frequency of 0.1THz. Two diffractive elements are designed and fabricated by 3D-printing to form the generation system. The ring radius of the generated beams is independent of the topological charge and positive linear relationship with the radial wave vector. By controlling the radial wave vector, the ring radius can be freely adjusted. The experiment results are shown to corroborate the numerical simulation ones. Such generated beams hold promise for developing the novel THz fiber communication systems. The calibration and sampling of the multispectral Light Detection and Ranging (lidar) intensity is still challenging because the data acquisition has to be optimized for simultaneous 3D measurement, and the intensity retrieval methods need to be fast to enable real-time detection. We have studied the spectral measurement of low reflectance targets with an 8-channel hyperspectral lidar with improved waveform sampling and sensitivity, which now allow the detection of spectral differences even at low reflectance values. Our initial analysis resulted in a classification accuracy greater than 80%, which indicates that the multispectral lidar is able to detect the small differences in target spectral properties when reflectance at two or more channels is compared at the same time.Holes through silicon substrates are used in silicon microsystems, for example in vertical electrical interconnects. In comparison to deep reactive ion etching, laser drilling is a versatile method for forming these holes, but laser drilling suffers from poor hole quality. In this article, water is used in the silicon drilling process to remove debris and the shape deformations of the holes. Water is introduced into the drilling process through the backside of the substrate to minimize negative effects to the drilling process. Drilling of inclined holes is also demonstrated. The inclined holes could find applications in radio frequency devices. In this article, based on nonadiabatic molecular dynamics with electronic transitions, the elaborate ultrafast process of hot excitons in conjugated polymer solar cells is revealed. When an external optical beam/pulse with the intensity of 30 µJ/cm-2 is utilized to excite a conjugated polymer, just within only 50 fs, the electronic transition not only redistributes the electron population in the original molecular orbital, but also starts to localize the electron cloud of excited states and to distort the alternating bonds in the polymer chain. Up to 300 fs, the lattice distortion has been stabilized. During the formation of hot excitons, the prominent self-trapping effect of conjugated polymer triggers the occurrence of local infrared active phonon modes, with five peaks in the phonon spectrum as the hot excitons relax. The characteristic phonon spectrum and infrared modes hence form the fingerprint of the hot excitons of a conjugated polymer, which are readily distinguished from other excitation states in the polymer.Frequency combs in the mid-IR wavelength are usually implemented by difference-frequency generation (DFG) that mixes pump pulses and signal pulses. The time-correlated single-photon counting technique was used to determine the return photon time-of-flight for target depth information. In laboratory demonstrations, depth and intensity reconstructions were made of targets at short range, using advanced image processing algorithms tailored for the analysis of single-photon time-of-flight data. These laboratory measurements were used to predict the performance of the single-photon LIDAR system at longer ranges, providing estimations that sub-milliwatt average power levels would be required for kilometer range depth measurements.

Herein, we demonstrate that nonstoichiometric nickel-cobalt double hydroxide could implement overall water splitting by itself upon sunlight irradiation, avoiding the consumption of noble-metal co-catalyst. We employed an intensive laser to ablate a NiCo alloy target immersed in alkaline solution, and produced so-called L-NiCo nanosheets with nonstoichiometric composition and O 2- /Co 3+ ions exposed on the surface. The nonstoichiometric composition broadens the band gap, while O 2- and Co 3+ ions boost hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions, respectively. As such, the photocatalyst achieves a H 2 evolution rate of 1.7 μmol h -1 under the AM 1.5G sunlight irradiation and apparent quantum yield (AQE) of 1.38% at 380 nm. © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Adapting this concept to the Early Earth scenario offers a promising solution to explain their evolution into a complex homochiral world. In this work, we present a class of imidazolidine-4-thione (photoredox-) organocatalysts, easily accessible from simple molecules available on an Early Earth under highly plausible prebiotic reaction conditions. These imidazolidine-4-thiones are readily formed from mixtures of aldehydes or ketones in presence of ammonia, cyanides and hydrogen sulphide in high selectivity and distinct preference for individual compounds of the resulting catalyst library. These organocatalysts successfully enable the challenging enantioselective α-alkylation of aldehydes under prebiotic conditions and show activities that correlate with the selectivity of their formation. Furthermore, the crystallization of single catalysts as conglomerates opens the pathway for symmetry breaking. © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Previous studies in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) reported inconclusive findings for the association of the TP53 rs1042522 C > G variant with cervical cancer. We therefore performed a meta-analysis to summarise this association in the SSA population. METHODS Online databases were searched to identify suitable articles according to the PRISMA guidelines. We included studies published in English or French that provided the sample sizes and genotype counts for both cases and controls and evaluated the association between TP53 rs1042522 and cervical cancer in the SSA population. A fixed-effect model was used to calculate the pooled odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs). RESULTS A total of 699 cervical cancer cases and 1008 controls from eight studies in SSA were included in this meta-analysis. Women harbouring the variant G allele of the TP53 rs1042522 were at increased risk of cervical cancer in allelic (G vs. C; OR = 1.30, 95% Cl = 1.12-1.50), homozygous (GG vs. CC; OR = 1.62, 95% CI = 1.20-2.19) and recessive (GG vs. CG + GG; OR = 1.74, 95% CI = 1.34-2.25) genetic models. However, the dominant genetic model (CG + GG vs. CC; OR = 1.20, 95% CI = 0.96-1.48) was not significantly associated with cervical cancer. CONCLUSIONS Our meta-analysis revealed that harbouring variant G allele of TP53 rs1042522 is associated with cervical cancer risk in the SSA population. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.BACKGROUND Historically, tumor burden has been considered an impediment to efficacy of immunotherapeutic agents, including vaccines, stem cell transplant, cytokine therapy, and intravesical bacillus Calmette-**érin. This effect has been attributed to hypoxic zones in the tumor core contributing to poor T-cell infiltration, formation of immunosuppressive stromal cells, and development of therapy-resistant cell populations. However, the association between tumor burden and efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors is unknown. We sought to determine the association between radiographic tumor burden parameters and efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors in advanced lung cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS We performed a retrospective analysis of patients with advanced lung cancer treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors. Demographic, disease, and treatment data were collected. Serial tumor dimensions were recorded according to RECIST version 1.1. However, in the present study, no association was found between tumor burden and efficacy (response rate, progression-free survival, overall survival) of immune checkpoint inhibitors in advanced lung cancer. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.BACKGROUND Historically, tumor burden has been considered an impediment to efficacy of immunotherapeutic agents, including vaccines, stem cell transplant, cytokine therapy, and intravesical bacillus Calmette-Guérin. Associations between radiographic tumor burden (baseline sum of longest stem cell transplant, and intravesical bacillus Calmette-Guérin. However, in the present study, no association was found between tumor burden and efficacy (response rate, progression-free survival, overall survival) of immune checkpoint inhibitors in advanced lung cancer. These findings suggest that immune checkpoint inhibitors may provide benefit across a range of disease burden, including bulky tumors considered resistant to other categories of immunotherapy. © AlphaMed Press 2020.PURPOSE To evaluate and compare the surface properties (roughness and hardness) of poly(methylmethacrylate) denture base material modified with zirconium dioxide (ZNPs), silicon dioxide (SNPs), and diamond (DNPs) nanoparticles. MATERIALS AND METHODS Two hundred sixty heat-polymerized acrylic resin disks (15 × 2 mm) were prepared. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/odm-201.html ZNPs, SNPs, and DNPs were added in concentrations of 0%, 0.5%, 1.0%, 2.5%, and 5.0% by weight of acrylic powder. This yielded a total of 13 groups for each test according to filler type and concentration (n = 10/group). The control group was made of pure acrylic. A mechanical polisher was used to standardize specimens' surfaces before testing. A profilometer and Vickers hardness indenter were used to test the surface roughness and hardness, respectively. ANOVA and Tukey post hoc tests were used for data analysis (α = 0.05). RESULTS In comparison to control, results showed a nonsignificant increase in surface roughness (Ra ) of acrylic material after the addition of 0.5% nanoparticles (ZNPs p = 0.0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 1 Views 0 Anteprima -
This study evaluated simultaneously the raw vinasse degradation, an effluent from the sugar-alcohol industry, the laccase production by Pleurotus sajor-caju and its purification using aqueous two-phase systems (ATPS). https://www.selleckchem.com/products/hdm201.html To improve laccase production, different concentrations of inducers (ethanol and CuSO4) were added. The higher laccase production promoted an increase of 4-fold using 0.4 mM of CuSO4 as inducer, with maximum enzymatic activity of 539.3 U/L on the 3rd day of fermentation. The final treated vinasse had a decolorization of 92% and turbidity removal of 99% using CuSO4. Moreover, the produced laccase was then purified by ATPS in a single purification step, reaching 2.9-fold and recovered ≈ 99,9 %, in the top phase (PEG-rich phase) using 12 wt% of PEG 1500 + 20 wt% of citrate buffer + enzyme broth + water, at 25 °C. Thus, an integrated process of vinasse degradation, laccase production and purification with potential industrial application was proposed. © 2019 The Authors. This manuscript details the modifications made to the HPLC assay method described in the USP monograph for Acetazolamide Compounded Oral Suspension.•The method was modified to allow the quantification of acetazolamide in two new suspension vehicles Oral Mix and Oral Mix SF;•It was validated for linearity, accuracy, precision and specificity;•It was demonstrated stability-indicating and suitable for use in a stability study using these vehicles. © 2020 The Authors. Objective We aimed to summarise evidence from sub-Saharan Africa on levels of exposure to pollutants in wood smoke and the association between such exposures and adverse health outcomes. Methods PubMed and Google scholar databases were searched for original articles reporting personal exposure levels to pollutants or health outcomes associated with wood smoke exposure in Sub-Saharan African population. Results Mean personal PM2.5 and carbon monoxide levels in the studies ranged from 26.3 ± 1.48 μg/m3 to 1574 ± 287μg/m3 and from 0.64 ± 2.12 ppm to 22 ± 2.4 ppm, respectively. All the reported personal PM2.5 exposure levels were higher than the World Health Organization's Air Quality Guideline (AQG) for 24-hour mean exposure. Use of wood fuels in domestic cooking is the major source of wood smoke exposure in this population. Occupational exposure to wood smoke included the use of wood fuels in bakery, fish drying, cassava processing and charcoal production. Females were exposed to higher levels of these pollutants than males of the same age range. Major determinants for higher exposure to wood smoke in SSA included use of unprocessed firewood, female gender and occupational exposure. We recorded strong and consistent associations between exposure to wood smoke and respiratory diseases including acute respiratory illness and impaired lung function. Positive associations were reported for increased blood pressure, low birth weight, oesophageal cancer, sick building syndrome, non-syndromic cleft lip and/or cleft palate and under-five mortality. Conclusion There is high level of exposure to wood smoke in SSA and this exposure is associated with a number of adverse health effects. There is urgent need for aggressive programs to reduce wood smoke exposure in this population. Human preimplantation development is a complex process involving dramatic changes in transcriptional architecture. For a better understanding of their time-spatial development, it is indispensable to identify key genes. Although the single-cell RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) techniques could provide detailed clustering signatures, the identification of decisive factors remains difficult. Additionally, it requires high experimental cost and a long experimental period. Thus, it is highly desired to develop computational methods for identifying effective genes of development signature. In this study, we first developed a predictor called EmPredictor to identify developmental stages of human preimplantation embryogenesis. First, we compared the F-score of feature selection algorithms with differential gene expression (DGE) analysis to find specific signatures of the development stage. In addition, by training the support vector machine (SVM), four types of signature subsets were comprehensively discussed. The prediction results showed that a feature subset with 1,881 genes from the F-score algorithm obtained the best predictive performance, which achieved the highest accuracy of 93.3% on the cross-validation set. Further function enrichment demonstrated that the gene set selected by the feature selection method was involved in more development-related pathways and cell fate determination biomarkers. This indicates that the F-score algorithm should be preferentially proposed for detecting key genes of multi-period data in mammalian early development. The senescence-accelerated mouse prone 8 (SAMP8) mouse model is a useful model for investigating the fundamental mechanisms involved in the age-related learning and memory deficits of Alzheimer's disease (AD), while the SAM/resistant 1 (SAMR1) mouse model shows normal features. Recent evidence has shown that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) may play an important role in AD pathogenesis. However, a comprehensive and systematic understanding of the function of AD-related lncRNAs and their associated nearby coding genes in AD is still lacking. In this study, we collected the hippocampus, the main area of AD pathological processes, of SAMP8 and SAMR1 animals and performed microarray analysis to identify aberrantly expressed lncRNAs and their associated nearby coding genes, which may contribute to AD pathogenesis. We identified 3,112 differentially expressed lncRNAs and 3,191 differentially expressed mRNAs in SAMP8 **** compared to SAMR1 ****. More than 70% of the deregulated lncRNAs were intergenic and exon sense-overlapping lncRNAs. Gene Ontology (GO) and pathway analyses of the AD-related transcripts were also performed and are described in detail, which imply that metabolic process reprograming was likely related to AD. Furthermore, six lncRNAs and six mRNAs were selected for further validation of the microarray results using quantitative PCR, and the results were consistent with the findings from the microarray. Moreover, we analyzed 780 lincRNAs (also called long "intergenic" non-coding RNAs) and their associated nearby coding genes. Among these lincRNAs, AK158400 had the most genes nearby (n = 13), all of which belonged to the histone cluster 1 family, suggesting regulation of the nucleosome structure of the chromosomal fiber by affecting nearby genes during AD progression. In addition, we also identified 97 aberrant antisense lncRNAs and their associated coding genes. It is likely that these dysregulated lncRNAs and their associated nearby coding genes play a role in the development and/or progression of AD. Method A is the novel triple divisor ratio difference method, where the triple divisor ratio spectrum of the component of interest shows a significant amplitude difference at two selected wavelengths where the three interfering substances are used as triple divisor and give constant amplitude all over the spectrum. The triple divisors are normalized spectra of tertiary mixtures containing 40 μg/mL of each of the 3 interfering components. The selected wavelengths are 256-290 nm, 220-230 nm, 230-245 nm and 275-260 nm for the 4 components, respectively. Method B is double divisor - ratio difference-dual wavelength, where the double divisor ratio spectrum of the component of interest shows a significant amplitude difference at two selected wavelengths where two interfering substances are used as double divisor and give constant amplitude all over the spectrum, while the third one shows zero amplitude difference at these two selected wavelengths.
