INTRODUCTION Low **** pain is a chronic recurrent symptom, which can lower the patient's quality of life. With technological development of automated home massage systems, now offers a promising alternative to physiotherapy. However, thus far, the effectiveness of such methods has not been evaluated. We aimed to compare the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of a massage chair with those of conventional physiotherapy for the treatment. METHODS This was a randomized controlled trial with a two-group parallel design. Following randomization and allocation, 56 participants were enrolled to receive either physiotherapy (n = 25) or mechanical massage using the massage chair (n = 31). Pain severity was measured using a visual analog scale (VAS) and satisfaction assessed with the McGill Pain Questionnaire (MPQ). Quality of life modification was analyzed using the Functional Rating Index (FRI). Cost-effectiveness was analyzed by comparing the sum of physiotherapy fees and monthly rental fees for chair massage. The primary outcomes are the total curative effective rate, and the hemodynamic parameter and adverse events will be deemed as secondary outcomes. The Stata15.1 software and Review Manager (RevMan 5.3; Cochrane Collaboration, Copenhagen, Denmark) will be used for analysis, to assess the bias risk, subgroup analysis, and data synthesis. RESULTS In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we will synthesize the studies to assess the safety and efficacy of acupuncture as adjuvant therapy for DF. The pain will be assessed through a pain scale and a questionnaire of quality of life related to oral health (OHIP-14) will be given to them. METHODS The study will be a randomized controlled trial conducted from May 1, 2019 to May 30, 2020 that includes 78 students from Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine who have primary dysmenorrhea and meet the eligibility criteria. Participants will be randomly divided into 2 groups in a 11 allocation ratio. The intervention group will use the acupressure wrist-ankle strap equipped with tip compression component parts on the internal side; the control group will use the nonacupressure wrist-ankle strap with the tip compression parts removed. All participants will be treated for 30 minutes on the 1st day of menstruation. The primary outcome is the pain intensity score measured by the visual analog scale. The secondary outcomes are the onset time of analgesia, the pain threshold at Yinlingquan (SP 9), skin temperature at Guanyuan (CV 4), and expectations and satisfaction of patients as investigated via the expectation and treatment credibility scale. DISCUSSION This trial will be the 1st study to evaluate the analgesic effect of the acupressure wrist-ankle strap in patients with primary dysmenorrhea. The quality of this study is ensured by the randomization, nonacupressure control, and blinded design. The results may provide evidence for a potential alternative treatment for primary dysmenorrhea and evidence-based proof of the analgesic effect of WAA.

Several pioneering research efforts have explored the application of BP in different types of electrochemical sensors. This review summarizes the latest synthesis methods, protection strategies, and electrochemical sensing applications of BP and its derivatives. The typical synthesis methods for BP-based crystals, nanosheets, and quantum dots are discussed in detail; the degradation of BP under ambient conditions is introduced; and state-of-the-art protection methodologies for enhancing BP stability are explored. Various electrochemical sensing applications, including chemically modified electrodes, electrochemiluminescence sensors, enzyme electrodes, electrochemical aptasensors, electrochemical immunosensors, and ion-selective electrodes are discussed in detail, along with the mechanisms of BP functionalization, sensing strategies, and sensing properties. Finally, the major challenges in this field are outlined and future research avenues for BP-based electrochemical sensors are highlighted.A new colorimetric sensor array based on mixing of Molybdenum disulfide quantum dots (MoS2 QDs) and organic reagents is introduced in this study. MoS2 QDs shows a specific and higher affinity to oxygen functionalized volatile compounds like aldehydes and ketones. Therefore, this designed sensor array is used for classification of eight different aldehydes and ketones based on Linear Discriminate Analysis (LDA) at first. The classification accuracy of 96% and 83% was obtained for training and prediction phases, respectively. Then the introduced colorimetric sensor array is used for the semi-quantitative and quantitative analysis of formaldehyde in milk samples. Formaldehyde is an adulteration that is added to the milk for increasing the storage time. *** milk samples were provided directly from dairy farmer and from supermarkets and were spiked by formaldehyde in the concentration range of 1-25 ppm. The response of sensor array to these samples were analyzed by partial least squares regression (PLS-R) method and were calibrated for concentration of formaldehyde. The PLSR results (R2 = 0.94 and RMSEC = 2.36) shows that proposed sensor is useable in direct analysis of formaldehyde in milk as a complex matrix.We have developed an analytical procedure to measure the carbon isotopic composition of multiple compounds even when there is a partial overlap in the chromatographic profiles and applied this procedure to measure the carbon isotopic composition of different metabolites in human urine and exhaled breath. Method development and validation was performed with CRM IAEA-600 caffeine after calibration of the reference CO2 gas using a mixture of certified undecane, pentadecane and eicosane δ(13C) standards. The alternative data treatment procedure included the correction of time-lag between Faraday cup amplifiers (44 ms at mass 45 and -160 ms at mass 46), the calculation and correction of chromatographic isotope effects on each peak (isotope shifts) and the calculation of the isotope ratio for each compound using the linear regression slope procedure with data only at the top of the chromatographic peak. In that way, partial chromatographic overlap between different metabolites can be tolerated (resolution equal or higher than 1). The reproducibility (SD) of the carbon isotope composition of 93 metabolites in human urine (n = 8) from one volunteer was typically better than 0.5 δ(13C) (range 0.1-2.0 δ(13C), median 0.4 δ(13C)). Adolescence represents a crucial developmental period in shaping mental health trajectories. In this study, we investigated the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on mental health and substance use during this sensitive developmental stage.
In this longitudinal, population-based study, surveys were administered to a nationwide sample of 13-18-year-olds in Iceland in October or February in 2016 and 2018, and in October, 2020 (during the COVID-19 pandemic). The surveys assessed depressive symptoms with the Symptom Checklist-90, mental wellbeing with the Short Warwick Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale, and the frequency of cigarette smoking, e-cigarette use, and alcohol intoxication. Demographic data were collected, which included language spoken at home although not ethnicity data. We used mixed effects models to study the effect of gender, age, and survey year on trends in mental health outcomes.

Functional constipation is a common functional bowel disorder in the community, which has a varying prevalence across cross-sectional surveys. We did a contemporaneous systematic review and meta-analysis of studies using comparable methodology and all iterations of the Rome criteria to estimate the global prevalence of functional constipation.
In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we searched MEDLINE, Embase, and Embase Classic from Jan 1, 1990, to Dec 31, 2020, to identify population-based cross-sectional studies comprising at least 50 participants that reported the prevalence of functional constipation in adults (age 18 years and older) according to Rome I, II, III, or IV criteria. We excluded studies that reported the prevalence of functional constipation in convenience samples. We extracted prevalence estimates of functional constipation from eligible studies, according to the study criteria used to define it. For each study, we extracted data for country; method of data collection; criteria used to define functional constipation; whether the study used the Rome I, II, III, or IV diagnostic questionnaires or approximated these definitions of the condition using another questionnaire; the total number of participants providing complete data; age; the number of participants with the condition; the number of male and female participants; and the number of male and female participants with the condition.

In general, the autophagy system is **** more complicated in mammals than in yeast. In addition, there are some differences in the types of autophagy present in animals, plants, and microorganisms. For example, there is a unique type of selective autophagy called the cytoplasm-to-vacuole targeting (Cvt) pathway in yeast, and a special kind of autophagy, chloroplast autophagy, exists in plants. Also, receptor protein complexes are required in various selective autophagy subtypes which process and guide the cargo to the core mechanism. Ubiquitination and phosphorylation are the main methods to modulate the affinity of the receptor toward cargo. Although many key processes of selective autophagy subtypes have been discovered and intensively studied, the precise ways in which the mechanisms of cargo recognition function remain mostly elusive. A fuller mechanistic understanding of selective autophagy will be important for efforts to promote disease treatment and drug development.Autophagy is a major intracellular degradation/recycling system that ubiquitously exists in eukaryotic cells. Finally, theoretical and practical implications are discussed.Background Despite the growing number of studies on the use of non-invasive brain stimulation in people with schizophrenia, there is limited research on participant views of such treatment methods. Aim Explore participant experiences and perceptions of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS). Methods Twelve people with schizophrenia took part in semi-structured interviews after having completed 5 sessions of tDCS. Thematic analysis was used to identify codes and themes. Results Five themes were identified (1) motivation for study enrolment; (2) concerns about tDCS; (3) factors reducing the fear of tDCS; (4) experience of tDCS; (5) perceived effects of tDCS. Conclusions The study provides insight into the perceptions and experiences of each individual. Participants were concerned about the safety of tDCS and associated it with invasive procedures such as electroconvulsive therapy and lobotomy. Educational materials and a good relationship with the researcher played an important role in reducing the fear of brain stimulation. All participants described tDCS as uncomfortable, however, agreed that unpleasant sensations only lasted for a short while (20 s-5 min). After the first session, participants no longer felt anxious about the remaining ones. Strategies to improve treatment experience and study recruitment have been identified.Although research on presence in virtual environments has increased in the last few decades due to the rise of immersive technologies, it has not examined how it is achieved in distributed cognitive systems. To this end, we examine the sense of presence on the Martian landscape experienced by scientific team members in the Mars Exploration Rover (MER) mission (2004-2018). How this was achieved is not obvious because the sensorimotor coupling that typically underlies presence in mundane situations was absent. Nonetheless, we argue that the Three-Level model can provide a framework for exploring how presence was achieved. This account distinguishes between proto-presence, core-presence, and extended-presence, each level dependent on being able to respond effectively to affordances at a particular level of abstraction, operating at different timescales. We maintain that scientists' sense of presence on Mars involved core-presence and extended-presence rather than proto-presence. Extended-presence involved successfully establishing distal intentions (D-intentions) during strategic planning, i.e., long term conceptual goals. Core-presence involved successfully enacting proximal intentions (P-intentions) during tactical planning by carrying out specific actions on a particular target, abstracting away from sensorimotor details. This was made possible by team members "becoming the rover," which enhanced their ability to identify relevant affordances revealed through images. We argue, however, that because Mars exploration is a collective activity involving shared agency by a distributed cognitive system, the experience of presence was a collective presence of the team through the rover.Objectives This study conducted a linguistic and psychometric evaluation of the Chinese Counseling Competencies Scale-Revised (CCS-R). Methods The Chinese CCS-R was created from the original English version using a standard forward-backward translation process. The psychometric properties of the Chinese CCS-R were examined in a cohort of 208 counselors-in-training by two independent raters. Fifty-three counselors-in-training were asked to undergo another counseling performance evaluation for the test-retest. The confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was conducted for the Chinese CCS-R, followed by internal consistency, test-retest reliability, inter-rater reliability, convergent validity, and concurrent validity. Results The results of the CFA supported the factorial validity of the Chinese CCS-R, with adequate construct replicability. The scale had a McDonald's omega of 0.876, and intraclass correlation coefficients of 0.63 and 0.90 for test-retest reliability and inter-rater reliability, respectively. Significantly positive correlations were observed between the Chinese CCS-R score and scores of performance checklist (Pearson's γ = 0.781), indicating a large convergent validity, and knowledge on drug abuse (Pearson's γ = 0.833), indicating a moderate concurrent validity. Conclusion The results support that the Chinese CCS-R is a valid and reliable measure of the counseling competencies. Practice implication The CCS-R provides trainers with a reliable tool to evaluate counseling students' competencies and to facilitate discussions with trainees about their areas for growth.Occupational health researchers have begun to realize that the psychological well-being of healthcare workers who are providing treatment against COVID-19 is deteriorating. However, there is minimal research conducted on it, particularly in the context of leadership. The current study aims to fill this important gap by identifying critical factors that can enhance the psychological well-being of healthcare workers. We proposed that safety specific transformational leadership enhances psychological well-being among healthcare workers, and COVID-19 perceived risk mediates this relationship. Furthermore, the safety conscientiousness of healthcare workers was proposed to be a boundary condition that enhances the negative relationship between safety-specific transformational leadership and COVID-19 perceived risk. Data were collected from healthcare workers (N = 232) treating COVID-19 patients in the hospitals of Pakistan through well-established adopted questionnaires. The discriminant and convergent validity of the data was tested through confirmatory factor analysis by using AMOS statistical package. The mediation and moderation hypotheses were tested by using PROCESS Macro by Hayes. Absence of monitoring may have a role, and a lack of guidelines, protocols, and forms for reporting were mentioned by HCWs, medical health officers and information system managers, and the focus group. Some HCWs may not know their responsibilities (eg, to whom AEFI should be reported). Many other obstacles face HCWs, including fear of punishment and accountability. Therefore, HCWs must be encouraged to report adverse events without fear of penalty. In addition, lack of education on AEFI and lack of experience in identifying AEFI may affect reporting. Training of HCWs, development of guidelines and protocols, database construction and design, and monitoring of the AEFI surveillance system are highly recommended.

Hypertensive disorders affect 10% of all pregnant women and increase the risk of adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes and the psychological wellbeing and quality of life of women. This study is to the best of my knowledge the first to investigate these issues in the Gaza Strip. I compared adverse effects in pregnancy between hypertensive and non-hypertensive women.
In this comparative study, eligible participants were hypertensive and non-hypertensive women attending health centres for postnatal care between August, 2016, and May, 2017. Six UNRWA health centres of 21 in Gaza Strip were selected randomly and quota sampling was applied after written informed consent was obtained. Data were collected by face-to-face interview and completion of the WHOQOL-BREF scale and SF-36 to assess quality of life. Additionally, data were extracted from patients' electronic primary medical records. Differences were analysed with Student's t test and the χ
test, using SPSS version 22.
430 mothers were enrolled, inclu compared with those born to women in the non-hypertensive group. Hypertensive mothers had a lower mean quality of life score than women in the non-hypertensive group (64·2 vs 71·3, p=0·001).
Neonatal admission in the hypertensive group and the caesarean section rates were lower than expected given the rates of preterm birth and low birthweight. These findings might be attributed to inadequate specialised management due to limited resources, blockade, receiving specialist treatment outside Gaza Strip, and political context. However, higher number of antenatal care visits suggests that hypertensive women receive more antenatal care from health-care providers at UNRWA clinics than non-hypertensive women. Secondary and tertiary maternal care in Gaza Strip need to be improved. A limitation of this study was poor documentation of some secondary health care data in electronic primary medical records but was overcome by reviewing hospital records.

Anti-D immunoglobulin (anti-D) therapy is cheaper and has a shorter infusion time than intravenous immunoglobulin G (IgG), but their comparative effects in the treatment of acute immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) have not been studied thoroughly. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of anti-D and intravenous IgG in the treatment of acute ITP in children.
The medical records of children diagnosed with acute ITP between January, 2008, and January, 2018, at Al-Rantisy Specialized Pediatric Hospital (a tertiary care centre) in Gaza were reviewed. Patients who received either intravenous anti-D (75 μg/kg, single dose) or intravenous IgG (2 g/kg, divided doses) as initial treatment for ITP were included in this retrospective study. Data on patient demographics, hospital stay period, and adverse drug reactions were collected for analysis. Laboratory results, including platelet counts and haemoglobin levels, were evaluated before treatment, and after 1, 3, 5, and 7 days of treatment. The therapy response wnge, 0·1-1·4 g/dL; intravenous IgG group, mean 0·5 g/dL, range, 0·2-1·2 g/dL; p=0·237), but increased on days 5 and 7 in both groups. The changes in haemoglobin after treatment were similar in both study groups. No patient developed severe anaemia requiring medical intervention. The average length of hospital stay was significantly shorter in the anti-D group than in the intravenous IgG group (1·8 days and 3·2 days, respectively; p<0·0001). Fewer adverse effects (headache, vomiting, chills) were reported in children who received anti-D therapy.

Pain management after caesarean delivery is important because acute pain in the postoperative period is associated with persistent pain, increased opioid use and postpartum depression, and delayed functional recovery. We investigated the role of nurse-supported care in acute pain management after caesarean delivery, which as far as we know has not previously been investigated in Gaza.
This was a comparative study done from March, 2018, to October, 2018, among women assigned to undergo caesarean delivery. Research nurses at the Al-Helal Al-Emirati Hospital, Rafah, Gaza Strip, occupied Palestinian territory, were trained to give supportive pain management care to women after caesarean delivery, including individualised care and educational sessions on pain, nutrition, exercise, and wound care. Women were randomly assigned to receive nurse-supported care or usual care. Pain assessment scales (range 1-5, where 1=no pain and 5=pain as bad as it could be) were used to record pain at 1, 6, 12, 18, and 24 h aftertion, and repeatability of the effects of nurse supportive care on pain perception and duration of hospital stay after caesarean delivery.

In 2016, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) changed from covering the full cost of secondary care in contracted public and private hospitals in Lebanon, Jordan, to requesting that these hospitals pay 10% of the costs. Meanwhile, services at UNWRA-contracted Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) hospitals remained fully covered. We did a health economics analysis to assess the effects this policy change on the demand for secondary care in UNRWA hospitals.
We assessed the difference in use of different types of hospital (demand) from January to May, 2016, and June, 2016, to October, 2017, before and after the payment policy change. Data were collected by UNWRA from each hospital's database, including individual-level inpatient information for 22 193 Palestinian refugees in Lebanon who were admitted to secondary care at UNRWA-contracted hospitals (public, private, and PRCS). We used regression analyses to estimate the effects on demand for the different hospital types, length of stay, and total costs of treatment to UNWRA and patients.

Data were collected by face-to-face interview and completion of the WHOQOL-BREF scale and SF-36 to assess quality of life. Differences were analysed with Student's t test and the χ test, using SPSS version 22. 430 mothers were enrolled, inclu compared with those born to women in the non-hypertensive group. Hypertensive mothers had a lower mean quality of life score than women in the non-hypertensive group (64·2 vs 71·3, p=0·001). Neonatal admission in the hypertensive group and the caesarean section rates were lower than expected given the rates of preterm birth and low birthweight. These findings might be attributed to inadequate specialised management due to limited resources, blockade, receiving specialist treatment outside Gaza Strip, and political context. Patients who received either intravenous anti-D (75 μg/kg, single dose) or intravenous IgG (2 g/kg, divided doses) as initial treatment for ITP were included in this retrospective study. Data on patient demographics, hospital stay period, and adverse drug reactions were collected for analysis. Laboratory results, including platelet counts and haemoglobin levels, were evaluated before treatment, and after 1, 3, 5, and 7 days of treatment. Hematological stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is an established method which has markedly increased the survival rate of hematologic malignancies since its introduction in the 1980's. The conditioning for HSCT has known gonadotoxic effects and often leads to premature loss of fertility. In this study we have prospectively followed a cohort of girls undergoing HSCT and studied the outcomes of fertility preservation treatments performed before or after HSCT, as well as the long-term reproductive outcome.
In this one-center prospective study, 39 girls counselled for fertility preservation prior to or after conditioning for HSCT for malignant or benign diseases at childhood or adolescence between 1990 and 2017 were included. Various evidences suggest that transcriptional factors (TFs) play a critical role in modulating cancer progression. However, the prognostic value of TFs in HNSCC remains unclear. Here, we identified a risk model based on a 12-TF signature to predict recurrence-free survival (RFS) in patients with HNSCC. We further analyzed the ability of the 12-TF to predict the disease-free survival time and overall survival time in HNSCC, and found that only NR5A2 down-regulation was strongly associated with shortened overall survival and disease-free survival time in HNSCC. Moreover, we systemically studied the role of NR5A2 in HNSCC and found that NR5A2 regulated HNSCC cell growth in a TP53 status-dependent manner. In p53 proficient cells, NR5A2 knockdown increased the expression of TP53 and activated the p53 pathway to enhance cancer cells proliferation. In contrast, NR5A2 silencing suppressed the growth of HNSCC cells with p53 loss/deletion by inhibiting the glycolysis process. Whether aspirin use can decrease or increase cancer risk remains controversial. In this study, a meta-analysis of cohort studies and randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were conducted to evaluate the effect of aspirin use on common cancer risk.
Medline and Embase databases were searched to identify relevant studies. Meta-analyses of cohort studies and RCTs were performed to assess the effect of aspirin use on the risk of colorectal, gastric, breast, prostate and lung cancer. Cochran Q test and the I square metric were calculated to detect potential heterogeneity among studies. Subgroup meta-analyses according to exposure categories (frequency and duration) and timing of aspirin use (whether aspirin was used before and after cancer diagnosis) were also performed. A dose-response analysis was carried out to evaluate and quantify the association between aspirin dose and cancer risk.
A total of 88 cohort studies and seven RCTs were included in the final analysis. Meta-analyses of cohort studies revealed thae cancer risk, respectively. Further studies are warranted to validate these findings and to find the minimum effective dose required for cancer prevention.
This study provides evidence for low-dose aspirin use for the prevention of CRC, but not other common cancers. When working in radiology and patient assistance in medical facilities, radiation workers need to understand how to properly protect themselves and others from scattered radiation. In this study, a visualization method is examined to facilitate the understanding of the spread of scattered radiation in radiography, computerized tomography (CT), and angiography rooms, and the application of this system for radiation protection education is proposed. X-ray radiography, X-ray CT, and angiography rooms were constructed using the particle and heavy ion transport code system (PHITS), and the scattered radiation distributions that occurred when a patient was irradiated with X-rays were simulated. The three-dimensional distribution of each moment was continuously displayed to create a four-dimensional distribution. For the TB-J-PET with an axial field-of-view (AFOV) of 200 cm, a spatial resolutions (SRs) of 3.7 mm (transversal) and 4.9 mm (axial) are achieved. The noise equivalent count rate (NECR) peak of 630 kcps is expected at 30 kBq cc-1. Activity concentration and the sensitivity at the center amounts to 38 cps kBq-1. The scatter fraction (SF) is estimated to 36.2 %. The values of SF and SR are comparable to those obtained for the state-of-the-art clinical Ptals and axial arrangement of the strips significantly reduces the costs of readout electronics and SiPMs.Conventional intraoperative computed tomography (CT) has a long scan time, degrading the image quality. Its large size limits the position of a surgeon during surgery. Therefore, this study proposes a CT system comprising of eight carbon-nanotube (CNT)-based x-ray sources and 16 detector modules to solve these limitations. The new technique is validated using geometric phantoms and a rabbit specimen, by performing both simulation studies as well as physical experiments. In a series of laboratory experiments, we varied the density of adult males and females while holding oviposition substrate availability constant and measured per female oviposition rate using high and low-quality substrates. We found that oviposition behavior was affected more by substrate than adult density, though both variables had significant effects. When we varied the spatial arrangement of whole raspberries, we observed differences in oviposition rate and egg distribution between the grouped and solitary female treatments. Our results suggest that social interactions encourage oviposition, especially when exposed to unfamiliar or unnatural substrates. These results highlight the compensating effect of increased oviposition rate per female as adult populations decline. Based on these results, we conclude that FAK and fascin work together to maintain cell shape by regulating adhesion area and height, respectively, in different cell types. We reveal that subunits of the TIM23 complex, TIM23 and TIM44 (also known as TIMM23 and TIMM44, respectively), and the complex IV subunit COXIV, form organised clusters and show properties distinct from the outer membrane protein TOM20 (also known as TOMM20). Density based cluster analysis indicated a bimodal distribution of TIM44 that is distinct from TIM23, suggesting distinct TIM23 subcomplexes. COXIV is arranged in larger clusters that are disrupted upon disruption of complex IV assembly. Thus, STORM super-resolution microscopy is a powerful tool for examining the nanoscale distribution of mitochondrial inner membrane complexes, providing a 'visual' approach for obtaining pivotal information on how mitochondrial complexes exist in a cellular context.
Intravenous phenobarbital remains the first-line therapy in the management of neonatal seizures. Shortages of intravenous phenobarbital in South Africa necessitated the addition of oral levetiracetam as part of management of neonatal seizures.
We evaluated the pharmacokinetics of crushed immediate-release levetiracetam tablets administered to neonates to terminate seizures.
A prospective, observational study of neonates admitted with seizures to Tygerberg Hospital. Participants received crushed levetiracetam (diluted in saline) given orally or via naso-/orogastric tube. At steady-state, pharmacokinetic sampling was performed at pre-dose, 1.5, 2.5 and 4 h post-dose. Maximum concentration (Cmax), time to Cmax (Tmax), trough concentrations (Ctrough) and area under the concentration-time curve (AUC0-12) were calculated using non-compartmental analysis. Seizure termination and safety profiles were documented.
Nineteen participants were grouped into three dosing ranges (i) 5-15 mg/kg/12-hourly, (ii) 15-25 mg/kg/12-hourly and (iii) 25-35 mg/kg/12-hourly.

A prospective, observational study of neonates admitted with seizures to Tygerberg Hospital. Participants received crushed levetiracetam (diluted in saline) given orally or via naso-/orogastric tube. At steady-state, pharmacokinetic sampling was performed at pre-dose, 1.5, 2.5 and 4 h post-dose. Maximum concentration (Cmax), time to Cmax (Tmax), trough concentrations (Ctrough) and area under the concentration-time curve (AUC0-12) were calculated using non-compartmental analysis. Seizure termination and safety profiles were documented.
