Targeting the Aetiology of Nocturia to Guide Outcomes (TANGO) is a validated English language questionnaire to identify underlying factors leading to nocturia. We set out to provide a culturally correct Arabic version of the TANGO questionnaire in Saudi Arabia.
The English version underwent forwarded and backward translation. The final version was administered to native Arabic speaking hospital employees and patients. Test-retest reliability and the clarity of questions were determined by Kappa and Cronbach's α statistics.
The translation The median Likert score for translated questions was ≥4 with a Cronbach's α .865. Test-retest reliability Thirty employees answered the questionnaire. The median, standard deviation (SD), and range were age 29.0 ± 11.0 years (20-55), and nocturia 1.0 ± 0.96 episodes per night (0-4). Three questions had identical constant answers and no Kappa values were computed. Based on prevalence-adjusted bias-adjusted Kappa (PABAK) values, 10 questions had a "very good" agreement, eight questions had a "good" agreement, and one item had a "moderate" agreement. The range of PABAK was 0.53 to 1, P < .01. Clarity of questions The employees had a median Likert score of 5.0 with a Cronbach's α .961. Thirty-two patients answered the questionnaire. To investigate the longitudinal transition of the phylogenetic feature of the HCoV-OC43 S gene in a community, phylogenetic analysis of the S1 region of the S gene was conducted using 208 strains detected in Yamagata during 2010 to 2017 with reference strains of the genotype. The S1 sequences were divisible into four groups A to D. All Yamagata strains belonged to either group B or group D. In group B, 46 (90.2%) out of 51 Yamagata strains were clustered with those of genotype E reference strains (cluster E). In group D, 28 (17.8%) and 122 (77.7%) out of 157 Yamagata strains were clustered, respectively, with genotype F and genotype G reference strains. In cluster G, 28 strains formed a distinct cluster. Monthly distributions of HCoV-OC43 in Yamagata in 2010 to 2017 revealed that group B and group D appeared one after another. In group B, the cluster E strains were prevalent recurrently. In conclusion, epidemics of HCoV-OC43 in Yamagata, Japan might be attributable to two genetically different groups group B showed a recurrent epidemic of strains belonging to a single phylogenetic cluster and group D showed epidemic strains belonging to multiple clusters.The African wild dog is endemic to sub-Saharan Africa and belongs to the family Canidae which includes domestic dogs and their closest relatives (i.e., wolves, coyotes, jackals, dingoes, and foxes). The African wild dog is known for its highly social behavior, co-ordinated pack predation, and striking vocal repertoire, but little is known about its brain and whether it differs in any significant way from that of other canids. We employed gross anatomical observation, magnetic resonance imaging, and classical neuroanatomical staining to provide a broad overview of the structure of the African wild dog brain. Our results reveal a mean brain mass of 154.08 g, with an encephalization quotient of 1.73, indicating that the African wild dog has a relatively large brain size. Analysis of the various structures that comprise their brains and their topological inter-relationships, as well as the areas and volumes of the corpus callosum, ventricular system, hippocampus, amygdala, cerebellum and the gyrification index, all reveal that the African wild dog brain is, in general, similar to that of other mammals, and very similar to that of other carnivorans. While at this level of analysis we do not find any striking specializations within the brain of the African wild dog, apart from a relatively large brain size, the observations made indicate that more detailed analyses of specific neural systems, particularly those involved in sensorimotor processing, sociality or cognition, may reveal features that are either unique to this species or shared among the Canidae to the exclusion of other Carnivora.

During the identification of the causal factors (causal scenarios) for the unsafe control actions of the human controllers, the three-phase approach proposed by France (2017) as well as the interaction problems between the subsystems in the hierarchical safety control structure were considered, and the implementation of the basic safety design procedure was included in the methodology for the improvement of system. A dynamic STPA methodology is also proposed as an extension to the basic methodology.Vibrotactile feedback training may be one possible method for interventions that target at learning better work techniques and improving postures in manual handling. This study aimed to evaluate the short term effect of real-time vibrotactile feedback on postural exposure using a smart workwear system for work postures intervention in simulated industrial order picking. Fifteen workers at an industrial manufacturing plant performed order-picking tasks, in which the vibrotactile feedback was used for postural training at work. The system recorded the trunk and upper arm postures. Questionnaires and semi-structured interviews were conducted about the users' experience of the system. The results showed reduced time in trunk inclination ≥20°, ≥30° and ≥45° and dominant upper arm elevation ≥30° and ≥45° when the workers received feedback, and for trunk inclination ≥20°, ≥30° and ≥45° and dominant upper arm elevation ≥30°, after feedback withdrawal. The workers perceived the system as useable, comfortable, and supportive for learning. The system has the potential of contributing to improved postures in order picking through an automated short-term training program.Many sensor fusion algorithms for analyzing human motion information collected with inertial measurement units have been reported in the scientific literature. We then compare different sensor fusion algorithms considering the fundamentals discussed using laboratory-based measurements of upper arm elevation collected under three motion speeds. Results indicate peak displacement errors of less then 4.5° with a computationally efficient, non-proprietary complementary filter that did not account for gyroscope bias during each of the one-minute trials. Controlling for gyroscope bias reduced peak displacement errors to less then 3.0°. The complementary filters were comparable ( less then 1° peak displacement difference) to the more complex Kalman filters.Objective Immediate action is an emergency power available to Australian health practitioner regulatory boards to protect the public. The aim of this study was to better understand the frequency, determinants and characteristics of immediate action use in Australia. Methods This was a retrospective cohort study of 11200 health practitioners named in notifications to the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) between January 2011 and December 2013. All cases were followed until December 2016 to determine their final outcome. Results Of 13939 finalised notifications, 3.7% involved immediate action and 9.7% resulted in restrictive final action. Among notifications where restrictive final action was taken, 79% did not involve prior immediate action. Among notifications where immediate action was taken, 48% did not result in restrictive final action. Compared with notifications from the public, the odds of immediate action were higher for notifications lodged by employers (mandatory notifications OR=21.

Individual differences in attentional control may explain null findings and inconsistent patterns of threat-related attentional bias (ABT) that are common in the posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) literature. At Time 1 (T1), trauma-exposed community participants (N = 89) completed a clinical interview, self-report measures, and an eye-tracking task developed to assess ABT. Participants completed follow-up assessments online 6 (T2) and 12 (T3) months later. Those with higher PTSD symptoms and deficits in attentional control exhibited a pattern of undercontrol, characterized by attention maintenance on threat and increased arousal. In contrast, those with higher PTSD symptoms and relatively better attentional control exhibited a pattern of overcontrol, characterized by threat avoidance and reduced arousal. These effects were specific to threat stimuli. Among PTSD symptom clusters, symptoms of hyperarousal were of central importance to the observed effects. Results from the longitudinal analysis indicate that both of these patterns of ABT are maladaptive, resulting in symptom maintenance at T2 and T3. These results have implications for (a) reconciling tensions between disparate models of ABT (i.e., vigilance-avoidance vs. attention maintenance), (b) precision medicine based approaches to targeting PTSD-related ABT, and (c) understanding the transdiagnostic role that attentional control may play in influencing ABT expression.
To date, we have only an incomplete understanding of how gene expression in the human placenta changes at the genome-wide scale from very early in gestation to term. Our aim was to investigate the dynamic changes in gene expression throughout placentation.
In our study, gene expression profiles were collected of human placentas from 4 to 40 gestational weeks of age. Simple linear regression and weighted correlation network analysis were applied to identify genes of interest. Our results highlighted a total of 5173 genes that are involved in different periods of placentation. Downstream annotation of these genes revealed the biological processes and pathways involved, from which we chose to further investigate the PPA the ways in which the mis-regulation of these pathways may be linked to pregnancy-related diseases. Nitric oxide (NO) is an endogenous signaling molecule in plants that can improve the resistance of rice to abiotic stresses. Previous studies also showed that nitrogen metabolism is essential for rice stress-tolerance. However, the physiological and molecular mechanisms by how NO affects the nitrogen metabolisms of rice seedlings remain unclear. A hydroponic experiment with two rice varieties, Jinyuan85 (salt tolerant) and Liaojing763 (salt sensitive), was carried out to explore whether NO could alleviate the negative effects of salt stress on nitrogen metabolism and increase salt resistance of rice seedlings. The results showed that (1) the application of NO alleviated the inhibitory effects of salt stress on plant height and biomass accumulation, and increased the nitrogen content of rice leaf. (2) the accumulation of the sucrose and proline was markedly increased in salt stress after application of NO, and peroxidase activities was increased by 107% and 67.7% for Jinyuan85 and Liaojing763, respectively. (3) NO significantly increased the activities of glutamate dehydrogenase, sucrose synthase and sucrose phosphate synthase in both rice varieties under salt stress. (4) Additionally, NO regulated the expression levels of AMT, NIA and SUT genes, but these regulation effects are different with rice varieties and treatments. The results suggested that NO mainly increased the glutamate dehydrogenase and peroxidase activities and sucrose accumulation to enhance the nitrogen metabolism and antioxidative capacity, and alleviated the negative effects of salt stress on rice performance.The past decades have witnessed hydrogen sulfide (H2S) serving as gaseous signaling molecule participating in diverse cellular and physiological processes in biological systems. Recently, a considerable number of studies highlight the signaling role of this redox-regulating molecule occurs via persulfidation, which is a post-translation modification of protein cysteine residues by covalent addition of thiol group form persulfide. However, our current understanding on detection of H2S and persulfidation in biological systems still lags behind. This review aims to summarize current approaches for measuring H2S and persulfidated levels in biological systems. Meanwhile, potential interference may exist in plant research has been proposed and discussed.
This study aimed to identify the risk factors for unplanned hospital readmissions (UHR) within 30 days of discharge among medical oncology patients at a tertiary hospital in Singapore.
This study is a retrospective, case-control medical record review of patients admitted to a medical oncology unit at a tertiary hospital between 1 June and October 31, 2017. During the study period, there were 1559 adult patients discharged alive from the medical oncology unit. Of this, 359 patients had experienced at least a 30-day UHR (cases). The cases were matched to those without a 30-day UHR (controls) by their primary reason for index admission and discharge date. After matching, 312 medical records (cases 156; controls 156) were analysed.
Of the 156 cases with a 30-day UHR, 46.2% (n=72) were readmitted within the first 10 days of discharge. The top reasons contributing to the UHR were non-neutropenic infection (n=41) and pain (n=23). Multivariate analyses identified three independent risk factors that were associated with the 30-day UHR (1) single marital status, (2) emergency department visit(s) in the past six months, and (3) recent decline in activities of daily living.
Individual differences in attentional control may explain null findings and inconsistent patterns of threat-related attentional bias (ABT) that are common in the posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) literature. At Time 1 (T1), trauma-exposed community participants (N = 89) completed a clinical interview, self-report measures, and an eye-tracking task developed to assess ABT. Participants completed follow-up assessments online 6 (T2) and 12 (T3) months later. Those with higher PTSD symptoms and deficits in attentional control exhibited a pattern of undercontrol, characterized by attention maintenance on threat and increased arousal. In contrast, those with higher PTSD symptoms and relatively better attentional control exhibited a pattern of overcontrol, characterized by threat avoidance and reduced arousal. These effects were specific to threat stimuli. Among PTSD symptom clusters, symptoms of hyperarousal were of central importance to the observed effects. Results from the longitudinal analysis indicate that both of these patterns of ABT are maladaptive, resulting in symptom maintenance at T2 and T3. These results have implications for (a) reconciling tensions between disparate models of ABT (i.e., vigilance-avoidance vs. attention maintenance), (b) precision medicine based approaches to targeting PTSD-related ABT, and (c) understanding the transdiagnostic role that attentional control may play in influencing ABT expression. To date, we have only an incomplete understanding of how gene expression in the human placenta changes at the genome-wide scale from very early in gestation to term. Our aim was to investigate the dynamic changes in gene expression throughout placentation. In our study, gene expression profiles were collected of human placentas from 4 to 40 gestational weeks of age. Simple linear regression and weighted correlation network analysis were applied to identify genes of interest. Nitric oxide (NO) is an endogenous signaling molecule in plants that can improve the resistance of rice to abiotic stresses. Previous studies also showed that nitrogen metabolism is essential for rice stress-tolerance. However, the physiological and molecular mechanisms by how NO affects the nitrogen metabolisms of rice seedlings remain unclear. A hydroponic experiment with two rice varieties, Jinyuan85 (salt tolerant) and Liaojing763 (salt sensitive), was carried out to explore whether NO could alleviate the negative effects of salt stress on nitrogen metabolism and increase salt resistance of rice seedlings. The results showed that (1) the application of NO alleviated the inhibitory effects of salt stress on plant height and biomass accumulation, and increased the nitrogen content of rice leaf. (2) the accumulation of the sucrose and proline was markedly increased in salt stress after application of NO, and peroxidase activities was increased by 107% and 67.7% for Jinyuan85 and Liaojing763, respectively. (3) NO significantly increased the activities of glutamate dehydrogenase, sucrose synthase and sucrose phosphate synthase in both rice varieties under salt stress. (4) Additionally, NO regulated the expression levels of AMT, NIA and SUT genes, but these regulation effects are different with rice varieties and treatments. The results suggested that NO mainly increased the glutamate dehydrogenase and peroxidase activities and sucrose accumulation to enhance the nitrogen metabolism and antioxidative capacity, and alleviated the negative effects of salt stress on rice performance.The past decades have witnessed hydrogen sulfide (H2S) serving as gaseous signaling molecule participating in diverse cellular and physiological processes in biological systems. The COVID-19 outbreak has expanded across the globe. Most of the countries are launching different measures to stop the transmission of this virus. However, the death toll is steadily rising. Strikingly the rate of coronavirus infection among the young-age population is the highest in SAARC countries as more than 80% population of the SAARC countries are young who constitute the working-age group. The disease transmission also occurs at a slower rate presumably due to diverse lifestyles of different ethnicities, immunity and genetic traits; but not because of the hot and humid weather despite previous assumptions. Since SAARC countries comprise 23.75% of the world population and the largest portion of these people is the young working-class, some immediate measures need to be implemented to save these valuable lives from COVID-19. Till now, there is no specific treatment or vaccine available; hence timely-taken preventive measures are the only hope that can save the people of this region. Here we have demonstrated an altered disease transmission pattern in people of SAARC countries, measures initiated by the governments, causes of failure and further actions to be taken to control disease transmission.
Disease and lifestyle patterns have been changing rapidly especially in Africa due to transformation in economic development and urbanization. Research on the magnitude and consequences of these transformations in Africa is limited. This study investigates the shifts in nutritional status in children and adults in four selected low-, middle- and high-income countries in Africa, identifies factors associated with the shifts, and provides recommendations for future studies.
Malawi, Kenya, Ghana, and South Africa were selected based on their Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Nationally representative data were obtained from the 2017 Global Nutrition Report, Demographic Health Surveys (DHSs), and the World Health Organization (WHO) database. Prevalence of underweight, overweight, and obesity were assessed and compared across the countries, gender, residence, and over time. Results South Africa had the highest GDP and largest prevalence of overweight and obesity rates in children < 5 years old and adults > 18 (13.3% and 51.9%, respectively). Malawi, with the lowest GDP, had the highest stunting rate (37.0%). In all 4 countries, but most notably in South Africa, trends indicated that the increasing prevalence of overweight and obesity was **** greater than the declining rate of underweight. Malawi, Kenya, and Ghana had a slight decline in overweight prevalence in children under 5 years.
Nutritional shifts are occurring in Africa and seem to be heavily influenced by economic development. The double-burden of malnutrition presents prioritization challenges for policymakers. Attention needs to be shifted towards prevention of obesity, at least in the higher income countries in Africa.

Moreover, the recent evidence of the anti-atherosclerotic effects determined by lipid-lowering and anti-inflammatory therapies poses a challenge for the choice of therapeutic approaches (best/optimal medical therapy vs. revascularization), maximized by the evidence that coronary and carotid atherosclerosis share common patterns but also differ regarding some important features. Noninvasive imaging of these features could have a role in risk stratification of myocardial infarction and stroke and can potentially be utilized for treatment guidance and monitoring. The recent development of hybrid PET/MRI combining the superior soft tissue contrast of MRI with the opportunity to visualize specific plaque features using various radioactive tracers, paves the way for comprehensive plaque imaging. In this review, the use of hybrid PET/MRI for atherosclerotic plaque imaging in carotid and coronary arteries is discussed. The pros and cons of different hybrid PET/MRI systems are reviewed.

As suggested by a quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) model, the UVA/TiO2 process favored the degradation of contaminants with more polar electron-withdrawing moieties and higher degrees of chlorination. The goal of this study was to determine whether plasma VEGF-A is altered in veterans with blast-related mTBI and address whether VEGF-A levels correlate with FDG uptake in the cerebellum, a brain region that is vulnerable to blast-related injury 72 veterans with blast-related mTBI (mTBI) and 24 deployed control (DC) veterans with no lifetime history of TBI were studied. Plasma VEGF-A was significantly elevated in mTBIs compared to DCs. Plasma VEGF-A levels in mTBIs were significantly negatively correlated with FDG uptake in cerebellum. In addition, performance on a Stroop color/word interference task was inversely correlated with plasma VEGF-A levels in blast mTBI veterans. Finally, we observed aberrant perivascular VEGF-A immunoreactivity in postmortem cerebellar tissue and not cortical or hippocampal tissues from blast mTBI veterans. These findings add to the limited number of plasma proteins that are chronically elevated in veterans with a history of blast exposure associated with mTBI. It is likely the elevated VEGF-A levels are from peripheral sources. Nonetheless, increasing plasma VEGF-A concentrations correlated with chronically decreased cerebellar glucose metabolism and poorer performance on tasks involving cognitive inhibition and set shifting. These results strengthen an emerging view that cognitive complaints and functional brain deficits caused by blast exposure are associated with chronic blood-brain barrier injury and prolonged recovery in affected regions.
In Italy, a recent irregular movement of people raised concerns among the host population on possible introduction of diseases that have long been controlled in the host countries. This study evaluates the health conditions of illegal immigrants landed on the north-eastern Sicilian territory, to provide information on the clinical and epidemiologic burden of infectious diseases among migrants and how the local population feel about these landings.
The study design is a cross-sectional study.
The study considered all migrants landed illegally in the city of Messina, Sicily, between January 2014 and July 2018. Analysing the data of hospital admissions and disease notifications, we calculated the frequency of infectious diseases among migrant population. Furthermore, through a survey conducted by a well-known online newspaper, we analysed the perception that the local population has about the health risk represented by migrants.
In the considered five-year period, 108 landings, for a total of 38,608 migrants occurred at the Messina port. The percentage of hospitalisation was rather low (3.5%), and it concerned mainly pregnant women. The notifications of infectious diseases were contained, with exception of scabies and tuberculosis. Finally, from the online survey, resulted that there is a large part of local population that considers migrants a potential danger to community health.
Our data show that the presence of migrants should not have to date any impact on the health conditions of the resident population. However, monitoring over time the health of migrants and screening for infectious diseases as soon as possible after landing are advantageous for both migrants and host country.

The goal of this study was to determine whether plasma VEGF-A is altered in veterans with blast-related mTBI and address whether VEGF-A levels correlate with FDG uptake in the cerebellum, a brain region that is vulnerable to blast-related injury 72 veterans with blast-related mTBI (mTBI) and 24 deployed control (DC) veterans with no lifetime history of TBI were studied. Plasma VEGF-A was significantly elevated in mTBIs compared to DCs. Plasma VEGF-A levels in mTBIs were significantly negatively correlated with FDG uptake in cerebellum. In addition, performance on a Stroop color/word interference task was inversely correlated with plasma VEGF-A levels in blast mTBI veterans. Finally, we observed aberrant perivascular VEGF-A immunoreactivity in postmortem cerebellar tissue and not cortical or hippocampal tissues from blast mTBI veterans. These findings add to the limited number of plasma proteins that are chronically elevated in veterans with a history of blast exposure associated with mTBI. It is likely the elevated VEGF-A levels are from peripheral sources. Nonetheless, increasing plasma VEGF-A concentrations correlated with chronically decreased cerebellar glucose metabolism and poorer performance on tasks involving cognitive inhibition and set shifting. This study evaluates the health conditions of illegal immigrants landed on the north-eastern Sicilian territory, to provide information on the clinical and epidemiologic burden of infectious diseases among migrants and how the local population feel about these landings. The study design is a cross-sectional study. The study considered all migrants landed illegally in the city of Messina, Sicily, between January 2014 and July 2018. Analysing the data of hospital admissions and disease notifications, we calculated the frequency of infectious diseases among migrant population. Furthermore, through a survey conducted by a well-known online newspaper, we analysed the perception that the local population has about the health risk represented by migrants. In the considered five-year period, 108 landings, for a total of 38,608 migrants occurred at the Messina port. The percentage of hospitalisation was rather low (3.5%), and it concerned mainly pregnant women. The notifications of infectious diseases were contained, with exception of scabies and tuberculosis. Finally, from the online survey, resulted that there is a large part of local population that considers migrants a potential danger to community health. Our data show that the presence of migrants should not have to date any impact on the health conditions of the resident population. In a new patient with BE the performance of a panel of tests is recommended, even though this practice may be expensive and the level of evidence supporting is low. We recorded variables concerning clinical, radiological, microbiological and laboratory features. We identified five groups of aetiological diagnosis of BE (idiopathic, post-infective, COPD, asthma and non-common diseases [immunodeficiency or other rare conditions]). Multivariate models were used to identify predictors of each aetiological diagnosis. The suitability of performing a specific test for the diagnosis was also considered.
We enrolled 354 patients with a new diagnosis of BE. Patients with different aetiological causes differed significantly with regard to age, sex, smoking habit, comorbidities, dyspnoea perception, airflow obstruction and severity scores. Various predictors were assessed, including sex, previous respiratory infections, diffuse localization of BE, risk scores, and laboratory variables (sodium and eosinophils). The levels of autoantibodies or immunoglobulins were reserved for the diagnosis of non-common disease.
Our research confirms that some predictors are specific for the aetiological diagnosis of BE. The possibility of integrating this information may represent a useful tool for the diagnosis. The execution of certain specific tests should be reserved for patients with a non-common disease.

The findings of major variation displayed in all parts of the fish body and correlated with ecological parameters. Variations of head shape especially form and position of mouthpart involved with feeding behaviours, whereas the variations of body depth and length which affected swimming patterns reflected responsiveness of water currents and habitat uses. Adaptation of head shape and body elongation was remarkably related to the feeding regime, swimming manoeuvrability and habitat utilisation of the species. Some convergent variation was observed between the tribes Smiliogastrini and Poropuntiini. Therefore, we propose that the morphological diversity of cyprinine fish is mainly affected by ecological gradients, while phylogenetic effects on morphology are minor.Seagrasses provide a wide range of services including food provision, water purification and coastal protection. Pacific small island developing states (PSIDS) have limited natural resources, challenging economies and a need for marine science research. Seagrasses occur in eleven PSIDS and nations are likely to benefit in different ways depending on habitat health, habitat cover and location, and species presence. Globally seagrass habitats are declining as a result of anthropogenic impacts including climate change and in PSIDS pressure on already stressed coastal ecosystems, will likely threaten seagrass survival particularly close to expanding urban settlements. Improved coastal and urban planning at local, national and regional scales is needed to reduce human impacts on vulnerable coastal areas. Research is required to generate knowledge-based solutions to support effective coastal management and protection of the existing seagrass habitats, including strenghened documentation the socio-economic and environmental services they provide. For PSIDS, protection of seagrass service benefits requires six priority actions seagrass habitat mapping, regulation of coastal and upstream development, identification of specific threats at vulnerable locations, a critique of cost-effective restoration options, research devoted to seagrass studies and more explicit policy development.Although many studies have examined potential moderators of the relation between nightmares and suicide, few have examined emotion regulation, particularly utilizing severe populations such as psychiatric inpatients. Nightmare frequency, emotion regulation difficulties, and their interaction predicted previous suicide attempts. Limitations include the homogeneity and cross-sectional nature of the sample. To test this hypothesis, a set of 2,170 putative neutral single nucleotide polymorphisms discovered by a double digest restriction-site associated DNA approach was used on 10 locations along the BCP. The results revealed a population structure with three putative groups Guadalupe Island and northern and southern BCP locations. The contemporary gene flow might be explained by local oceanographic features, where it is bidirectional within the southern region but with a predominant southward flow from the northern region. The degree of genetic variation is found to be different in different populations around the world. The frequencies of two important polymorphisms in the CYP2E1*7C, NC_000010.10g.135340548A>G (rs2070672) and CYP2E1, NC_000010.10g.135339244G>C (rs3813865), are not known in the Pakistani population. In the present investigation, 636 healthy human volunteers were screened for these two single nucleotide polymorphism. Our results indicate that about 18% (rs2070672) and 28% (rs3813865) of the Pakistani population has a genotype containing at least one low activity allele. A significant interethnic variation in the frequencies of both the polymorphisms was observed. These results suggest that pharmacogenetics screening for low activity genotypes would be a helpful tool for clinicians when they prescribe medications metabolized by CYP2E1, as a significant fraction of the Pakistani population is expected to have a variable response to these drugs.
The black-necked crane (
) is a vulnerable species and the only species that lives in the plateau. Five migration routes of different populations have been identified, but for cranes wintering in Nyingchi Prefecture, Tibet, the migration route and breeding/summering area are still unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate the spatio-temporal migration patterns of black-necked cranes in this area and to identify important areas for conservation.
In 2016, we fitted seven black-necked cranes in Nyingchi with GPS-GSM satellite transmitters to record their migration routes. We used ArcGIS 10.2 to visualize important stopover sites and the 'ggplot' function in R to analyze the migration patterns.
From March 2016 to May 2019, we recorded nine spring migration and four autumn migration tracks from five individuals. Four individuals spent the breeding/summering season in Qinghai Lake, while the other spent the breeding/summering season in the Jinzihai Wetland of Dulan County, Qinghai Province. Marijuana and opioid addictions have increased alarmingly in recent decades, especially in the United States, posing threats to society. Here, we summarize the current data on the prevalence of marijuana and opioid use among the people of the United States, particularly pregnant mothers. To monitor the assay of folic acid, mesalazine and nine of its related impurities, a single HPLC method was developed. Results of compatibility studies showed that no physicochemical interaction between mesalazine and folic acid occurs when combined, opening the path to the development of new formulations, such as a mesalazine/folic acid fixed-dose combination.Melanoma is one of the most aggressive and highly resistant tumors. Here we combine mathematical models of phenotypic switching with experiments on IgR39 human melanoma cells to identify possible key targets to impair phenotypic switching. Our mathematical model shows that a cancer stem cell subpopulation within the tumor prevents phenotypic switching of the other cancer cells. Experiments reveal that hsa-mir-222 is a key factor enabling this process. These antioxidants can be degraded during the storage of grape stem extracts for long periods of time. The aim of this work was to analyze the stability of Mazuelo stem extracts during storage at 25 and 40 °C, in two different light conditions (amber and transparent vials). The stability of the antioxidants was studied after 2, 4 and 6 months of conservation. Gallic acid and the quercetin derivative concentration were stable throughout the storage period. In contrast, catechin disappeared from all the extracts in just two months of storage. Anthocyanins were significantly affected by temperature, and light enhanced their degradation when the extracts were kept at 40 °C. Resveratrol and viniferin showed a similar behavior. Their concentration decreased from the beginning of storage, and in both cases, they were significantly affected by both temperature and light.The compound 62 chlorinated polyfluorinated ether sulfonate (F-53B), a replacement for perfluorooctanesulfonate (PFOS) in the electroplating industry, has been widely detected in numerous environmental matrices, human sera, and organisms. Due to regulations that limit PFOS use, F-53B use is expected to increase. Therefore, in this study, we performed a subchronic oral toxicity study of F-53B in Sprague Dawley (SD) rats. F-53B was administered orally once daily to male and female rats for 28 days at doses of 5, 20, and 100 mg/kg/day. There were no toxicologically significant changes in F-53B-treated rats, except in the thyroid gland. However, F-53B slightly reduced the serum concentrations of thyroid hormones, including triiodothyronine and thyroxine, compared with their concentrations in the vehicle group. F-53B also induced follicular hyperplasia and was associated with increased thyroid hormone biosynthesis-associated protein expression. These results demonstrate that F-53B is a strong regulator of thyroid hormones in SD rats as it disrupts thyroid function.
