Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) diagnosis is challenging as angiographic findings are often subtle and differ from coronary atherosclerosis. Herein, we describe characteristics of patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI) caused by first septal perforator (S1) SCAD.
Patients were gathered from SCAD registries at Minneapolis Heart Institute and Vancouver General Hospital. First septal perforator SCAD prevalence was 11 of 1490 (0.7%). Among 11 patients, age range was 38-64 years, 9 (82%) were female. Each presented with acute chest pain, troponin elevation, and non-ST-elevation MI diagnosis. Initial electrocardiogram demonstrated ischaemia in 5 (45%); septal wall motion abnormality was present in 4 (36%). Angiographic type 2 SCAD was present in 7 (64%) patients with S1 TIMI 3 flow in 7 (64%) and TIMI 0 flow in 2 (18%). Initial angiographic interpretation failed to recognize S1-SCAD in 6 (55%) patients (no culprit, n = 5, septal embolism, n = 1). First septal perforator SCAD diagnosis was availability of CMR imaging. Spontaneous coronary artery dissection events may occur in intra-myocardial coronary arteries, approaching the resolution limits of invasive coronary angiography.
The contribution of sex hormones to micro- and macrovascular damage might differ among women and men. In particular, little is known about the association between sex hormones and small vessel disease. Therefore, we examined the association of total oestradiol, total testosterone, free-androgen index (FAI), dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS), and androstenedione levels with micro- and macrovascular diseases.
This cross-sectional study included 2950 women and 2495 men from the population-based Rotterdam Study. As proxy of microvascular damage, we measured diameters of retinal arterioles and venules. Markers of macrovascular damage included carotid intima-media thickness and carotid plaque, coronary artery calcification (CAC), and peripheral artery disease. The association of delay in seeking medical care to subsequent cardiac events remains unknown in patients with worsening heart failure (HF) symptoms. The aims of this study were to (i) identify factors predicting care-seeking delay and (ii) examine the impact of care-seeking delay on subsequent cardiac rehospitalization or death.
We studied 153 patients hospitalized with an exacerbation of HF. Potential predictors of delay including demographic, clinical, psychosocial, cognitive, and behavioural variables were collected. Patients were followed for 3 months after discharge to determine time to the first cardiac rehospitalization or death. The median delay time was 134 h (25th and 75th percentiles 49 and 364 h). Non-linear regression showed that New York Heart Association functional class III/IV (P = 0.001), worse depressive symptoms (P = 0.004), better HF knowledge (P = 0.003), and lower perceived somatic awareness (P = 0.033) were predictors of delay time from patient perception of worsening HF to subsequent hospital admission. Cox regression revealed that patients who delayed longer (more than 134 h) had a 1.93-fold higher risk of experiencing cardiac events (P = 0.044) compared to non-delayers.

This case report aims to present and discuss the techniques of the direct reveneering method, their advantages and disadvantages, as well as the importance of adhesive procedures in the success of these restorative approaches. Success in repairing the fractured area, regardless of the technique used, is fundamental to establish a strong and stable adhesion between the repaired and the fractured areas, since the longevity of the repair will depend on the quality of the interface generated.
Glutaric acidemia type 1 (GA1) is an inherited neurometabolic disease with significant morbidity. However, neuro-radiological correlation is not completely understood.
The study aimed to characterize the neuroimaging findings and their association with neurological phenotype in GA1 children.
Twenty-six Egyptian children (median age = 12 months) diagnosed with GA1 underwent clinical evaluation and brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We objectively assessed the severity of neurological phenotype at the time of MRI using movement disorder (MD) and morbidity scores. Evaluation of brain MRI abnormalities followed a systematic and region-specific scoring approach. Brain MRI findings and scores were correlated with MD and morbidity scores, disease onset, and presence of seizures.
Fifteen (57.7%) cases had insidious onset, eight (30.8%) manifested acute onset, whereas three (11.5%) were asymptomatic. Ten (38.5%) cases had seizures, five of which had no acute encephalopathic crisis. Putamen and caudate abnormalities (found in all acute onset, 93.3 and 73.3% of insidious onset, and one of three asymptomatic cases) were significantly related to MD (
= 0.007 and 0.013) and morbidity (
= 0.005 and 0.003) scores. Globus pallidus abnormalities (50% of acute onset, 46.7% of insidious onset, and one of three of asymptomatic cases) were significantly associated with morbidity score (

The risk of bias was analyzed by means of the tool Cochrane risk of bias in nonrandomized controlled trials (NRCTs) of interventions (ROBINS-I). The certainty of the evidence was assessed for outcomes reported through a narrative synthesis using grading of recommendations, assessment, development and evaluation (GRADE) approach. Four NRCTs were included, with a total of 360 patients, 283 UCLP and 77 bilateral cleft lip and palate (BCLP). The studies reported association between the increase in the rate of tooth eruption and bone graft with very low certainty of evidence, and greater experience of surgical success, with low certainty of evidence. The majority of the studies found an association between increase in the rate of canine impaction and agenesis of the lateral incisor, with very low certainty of evidence. There was very low certainty of the efficacy of secondary alveolar bone grafting for increasing the rates of eruption and reducing impaction of the maxillary canine.

Mesial curved root canals of 12 mandibular molars were prepared using PDL 25/.06 and filled using the continuous wave of condensation technique and AH Plus sealer. After retreatment using ProDesign S (PDS) 25/.08, PDL 25/.06 and PDL 35/05, a complementary procedure was performed with PDL 50/.01. Microcomputed tomography (micro-CT) scanning was performed before and after retreatment procedures. The cyclic fatigue resistance of unused PDS 25/.08, PDL 25/.06, PDL 35/.05 and PDL 50/.01 instruments (
= 12) was evaluated in a stainless-steel device.

In this study, five adsorption isotherm models, that is, the Langmuir, Freundlich, Langmuir-Freundlich, Temkin and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller isotherms, were utilized for the analysis of the experimental adsorption data for six classes of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)-based thermo-responsive copolymer-grafted Sepharose Fast Flow sorbents of different copolymer compositions with two structurally related proteins, namely bovine holo-lactoferrin and bovine holo-transferrin at 20 and 50°C. The experimental data for bovine holo-lactoferrin could be mathematically fitted to the Freundlich and Temkin isotherms when the protein feed concentrations were in the range of 1-40 mg/mL at both 20 and 50°C. Similar analysis of the binding of the homologous protein, bovine holo-transferrin, to the same thermo-responsive copolymer-grafted sorbents revealed that the experimental data could be fitted to the Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin isotherms with coefficients of determination value over 0.90.
Metformin is widely used as an insulin sensitizer in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) patients. However, previous studies have found that the effect of metformin on the level of homocysteine were not consistent in PCOS patients. The aim of this review was to analyze the effect of metformin on homocysteine levels in patients with PCOS patients.
The Cochrane Library, Pubmed, and Web of Science were searched according to predefined search terms. There is no restriction for publication time and language.
Eleven studies were included and the data were extracted. The homocysteine level in PCOS patients was significantly increased after taking metformin (mean difference [MD] -1.33; 95% confidence interval [CI] -2.16 to -0.49, p = 0.002). Subgroup analysis showed that the level of homocysteine was generally increased in PCOS patients with body mass index (BMI) ≥25 after taking metformin alone (MD -1.82; 95% CI -2.56 to -1.07, p < 0.00001). There was no significant change in homocysteine level in PCOS patient than 1700 mg/days. The supplement of folic acid and B vitamins during metformin administration may be essential in nonpregnant PCOS patients. We should pay **** attention to the potential effect of metformin in PCOS patients.
Taking metformin alone increased homocysteine levels and decreased folic acid levels in nonpregnant PCOS patients. And, it was suggested that the dosage of metformin should be less than 1700 mg/days. In a typical patient with PD, predicted apomorphine exposure increased with increasing doses of apomorphine sublingual film; however, the increase was less than dose proportional. The aim of the study was to examine a secular trend in age at menarche (AAM) in the former Czechoslovak (and descendant Slovak and Czech) population in relation to its large-scale political and social events taking place after World War II.
The study included 211 women aged 18-30 (born during 1984-1998), and their relatives mothers, sisters, and grandmothers, yielding a total of 421 women. Changes in retrospectively recalled AAM between the three generations of women (oldest-grandmothers, middle-mothers, and youngest-daughters) were studied in pairwise comparisons. Relationships between AAM and the birth/conception date were analyzed relative to three events in the post-WWII Czechoslovakia (1948, 1968, and 1989).
AAM was the highest in the oldest generation, slightly lower in the middle generation and the lowest in the youngest generation. Mixed-Effect Model showed statistically significant interaction between the date of conception, historical events, and the period before and after the event.
The recorded decline in AAM is congruent with secular trends reported in the literature.
In this study, five adsorption isotherm models, that is, the Langmuir, Freundlich, Langmuir-Freundlich, Temkin and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller isotherms, were utilized for the analysis of the experimental adsorption data for six classes of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)-based thermo-responsive copolymer-grafted Sepharose Fast Flow sorbents of different copolymer compositions with two structurally related proteins, namely bovine holo-lactoferrin and bovine holo-transferrin at 20 and 50°C. The experimental data for bovine holo-lactoferrin could be mathematically fitted to the Freundlich and Temkin isotherms when the protein feed concentrations were in the range of 1-40 mg/mL at both 20 and 50°C. Similar analysis of the binding of the homologous protein, bovine holo-transferrin, to the same thermo-responsive copolymer-grafted sorbents revealed that the experimental data could be fitted to the Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin isotherms with coefficients of determination value over 0.90. Metformin is widely used as an insulin sensitizer in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) patients. However, previous studies have found that the effect of metformin on the level of homocysteine were not consistent in PCOS patients. The aim of this review was to analyze the effect of metformin on homocysteine levels in patients with PCOS patients. The Cochrane Library, Pubmed, and Web of Science were searched according to predefined search terms. There is no restriction for publication time and language. Eleven studies were included and the data were extracted. The homocysteine level in PCOS patients was significantly increased after taking metformin (mean difference [MD] -1.33; 95% confidence interval [CI] -2.16 to -0.49, p = 0.002). Subgroup analysis showed that the level of homocysteine was generally increased in PCOS patients with body mass index (BMI) ≥25 after taking metformin alone (MD -1.82; 95% CI -2.56 to -1.07, p < 0.00001). There was no significant change in homocysteine level in PCOS patient than 1700 mg/days. The aim of this study was to establish a preoperative prediction method for sparsely granulated (SG) growth hormone (GH)-secreting pituitary adenoma, an aggressive tumour subtype with high recurrence risk, in acromegaly patients.
Eighty-three patients with GH-secreting pituitary adenomas were included in this study. GH measurements, cytokeratin immunostaining and electron microscopy were performed to detect granulation patterns. Preoperative factors, including general, radiological and endocrinological features and acute octreotide suppression test outcomes, were compared between SG and densely granulated (DG) groups. The predictive capabilities of these features were analysed using a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, and the most predictive features were combined to establish a grading scale.
Thirty-nine of the 83 patients had SG GH-secreting pituitary adenomas; 44 had DG tumours. The performance of these methods in the presence of data irregularity and high dimensionality, such as that encountered in electronic health record (EHR) data analysis, has been less studied. In this research, we describe a general formulation that unifies many of the existing learners through a common score function. The new formulation allows the incorporation of least absolute deviation (LAD) regression and dimension reduction techniques to counter the challenges in EHR data analysis. We show that under a set of mild regularity conditions, the resultant estimator has an asymptotic normal distribution. Within this framework, we proposed two specific estimators for EHR analysis based on weighted LAD with penalties for sparsity and smoothness simultaneously. Our simulation studies show that the proposed methods are more robust to outliers under various circumstances. We use these methods to assess the blood pressure-lowering effects of two commonly used antihypertensive therapies.
To characterise somatosensory discrimination impairment of the upper-limb across domains of tactile discrimination, limb position sense and haptic object recognition using the sense_assess© kids and examine associations with upper-limb motor performance in children with hemiplegic cerebral palsy (CP).
The sense_assess© kids was administered at one timepoint to 28 children, aged 6-15.5years (M=10.1, SD=2.4), with hemiplegic CP (right hemiplegia n=15) and Manual Ability Classification System Levels I (n=11) and II (n=17). Unimanual motor performance was quantified using the Box and Block Test.
Tactile discrimination was impaired in 18, limb position sense in 20, and haptic object recognition was impaired in 21 of 28 children. Over 80% (23/28) of children had impaired somatosensory discrimination in one or more domains. Low to moderate correlations were observed between each measure of somatosensory discrimination and motor performance. Manual ability classification was associated with limb position sense and haptic object recognition. A moderate inverse correlation (r=-.57, p<.01) exists between the number of somatosensory domains impaired and motor performance.
The frequency of somatosensory impairment in the upper limb of children in our sample was high and associated with manual ability, suggesting a need for routine assessment of somatosensation in this population.

These experiments sought to establish the effects of physiological and pathophysiological concentrations of exogenous FA upon the function of tissue engineered skeletal muscle (TESkM). Cultured initially for 14 days, C2C12 TESkM was exposed to FA-free bovine serum albumin alone or conjugated to a FA mixture (oleic, palmitic, linoleic, and α-linoleic acids [OPLA] [ratio 4530241%]) at different concentrations (200 or 800 µM) for an additional 4 days. Subsequently, TESkM morphology, functional capacity, gene expression and insulin signaling were analyzed. As a conclusion, this study describes an innovative approach to study the potential harmful effects of GBN, providing relevant data to be considered in the biomedical context when GBN are planned to be used in patients.Competitive adsorption of arsenate (AsO43-) and phosphate (PO43-) on α-FeOOH, LaOOH, and nano-TiO2 was studied using batch adsorption experiments and in-situ flow cell ATR-FTIR coupled with two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy (2D-COS) for the first time. With a higher temporal resolution, our results found a highly dynamic adsorption sequence for AsO43- and PO43-. When AsO43- and PO43- were simultaneously exposed to the adsorbents at the same concentrations, AsO43- was preferentially adsorbed by α-FeOOH and TiO2, but PO43- adsorption was dominant on LaOOH. The results implied that the PO43- adsorbed on LaOOH had to be remobilized to allow for AsO43- adsorption, but that PO43- adsorption on α-FeOOH and TiO2 was hindered by faster AsO43- adsorption. Crystal orbital Hamilton population (COHP) analysis revealed that AsO43- complexes bonded more strongly on α-FeOOH and TiO2, whereas PO43- complexes were more stable on LaOOH. Different adsorption sequences and the stability of the complexes were attributed to the diverse geometric configurations of AsO43- and PO43- on metal oxides surfaces with specific bonding chemistry. The neurobehavior of adults and larval offspring was evaluated, and the levels of thyroxine (T4), triiodothyronine (T3) and neurotransmitters (acetylcholine, dopamine and gamma-aminobutyric acid) were quantified in larvae and embryos. Our results showed that TBBPA was detected in embryo and the locomotor activity of larval offspring was significantly reduced, suggesting that TBBPA can transfer to offspring and result in neurotoxicity in larval offspring. Furthermore, a reduction in T3 levels was observed in both the larvae and embryos. We also found a significantly decreased content of dopamine in larval offspring, accompanied by downregulated mRNA expression of rdr2b and drd3. With a higher temporal resolution, our results found a highly dynamic adsorption sequence for AsO43- and PO43-. When AsO43- and PO43- were simultaneously exposed to the adsorbents at the same concentrations, AsO43- was preferentially adsorbed by α-FeOOH and TiO2, but PO43- adsorption was dominant on LaOOH. The results implied that the PO43- adsorbed on LaOOH had to be remobilized to allow for AsO43- adsorption, but that PO43- adsorption on α-FeOOH and TiO2 was hindered by faster AsO43- adsorption. Crystal orbital Hamilton population (COHP) analysis revealed that AsO43- complexes bonded more strongly on α-FeOOH and TiO2, whereas PO43- complexes were more stable on LaOOH. Different adsorption sequences and the stability of the complexes were attributed to the diverse geometric configurations of AsO43- and PO43- on metal oxides surfaces with specific bonding chemistry. Standardized pretransplant psychosocial assessment is critically needed in Thailand to optimize medical and psychosocial outcomes after transplantation. The Stanford Integrated Psychosocial Assessment for Transplantation (SIPAT) is a comprehensive and evidence-based tool that has demonstrated excellent reliability and predictive value in many psychosocial transplant studies. We translated the SIPAT into Thai and explored the validity and reliability of the SIPAT-Thai version among Thai transplant recipients.
We translated the original SIPAT into Thai following the World Health Organization's standard forward-backward translation procedure and then cross-sectionally assessed its validity and reliability in 110 Thai solid organ transplant candidates. The correlation between background data, total, and sectional scoring results of SIPAT-Thai were also analyzed.
The SIPAT-Thai demonstrated moderate to good reliability, which was represented by internal consistency with a Cronbach α of .751 and interrater reliability with a κ value at 0.767. The index of item-objective congruence value was 0.94, indicating good the content validity.
The SIPAT-Thai was systematically translated and shown to have acceptable validity and a moderate to good reliability index. The use of the SIPAT-Thai would provide a standardized, evidence-based, and a more systematic pretransplant psychosocial evaluation process for transplant candidates in Thailand.

Noroviruses are the leading cause of acute gastroenteritis in the United States and outbreaks frequently occur in daycare settings. Results of norovirus vaccine trials have been promising, however there are open questions as to whether vaccination of daycare children would be cost-effective. We investigated the incremental cost-effectiveness of a hypothetical norovirus vaccination for children in daycare settings compared to no vaccination.
We conducted a model-based cost-effectiveness analysis using a disease transmission model of children attending daycare. Vaccination with a 90% coverage rate in addition to the observed standard of care (exclusion of symptomatic children from daycare) was compared to the observed standard of care. The main outcomes measures were infections and deaths averted, quality-adjusted life years (QALYs), costs, and incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER). Cost-effectiveness was analyzed from a societal perspective, including medical costs to children as well as productivitycines.
Due to the large disease burden associated with norovirus, it is likely that vaccinating children in daycares could be cost-effective, even with modest vaccine efficacy and a high per-child cost of vaccination. This study examined the extent that vaccination intentions and attitudes were associated with estimated social norms as an initial proof-of-concept test.

Hepatitis-A is an acute viral infection of the liver. Hepatitis-A virus has worldwide spread and is endemic in India. Though the disease is self-limiting in most cases, outbreaks are reported frequently from both developing and developed countries of the world. Severity and fatality occur more among infected symptomatic adults. The infection can be prevented with proper and timely immunization. This phase I, single arm, open label, multicenter trial was designed to assess the safety and immunogenicity of the inactivated hepatitis-A vaccine developed by Human Biologicals Institute when administered in a single dose in two age groups of healthy subjects.
This study was carried out in 55 subjects in two healthy age groups at two centers in India. Group A included subjects of 19-49years and group B subjects of 12-18years of age. Enrolled subjects received a single dose of inactivated hepatitis A vaccine. Blood samples were collected at baseline and 4-6weeks after vaccination. wels Type III fracture.We present the case of a 56-year-old man who sustained a tibial tuberosity fracture with an associated patellar fracture. In the adult population there are only a few documented cases of tibial tuberosity fractures. This is only the second recorded case of bifocal patella tendon avulsion. The patient was managed successfully by fixation of the tibial tuberosity alone as the patella fracture was undisplaced and the patella retinaculum intact. A key point was screening the patella fracture at time of fixation to aid this decision. We achieved a good outcome at one year with internal fixation and early mobilisation.Tibial plateau fracture-dislocations are relatively uncommon injuries. They represent instability patterns due to injured collateral ligaments or extensive condylar depression. Medial and lateral subluxations of the fractured fragments represent the majority of these injuries. Posterior dislocations with the tibial plateau fractures are extremely rare injuries. Moreover, isolated posterior dislocations of the tibial condyles with a normally maintained position of the remaining tibia have not been reported in literature. We describe a difficult case scenario in which whole of the articular segment of the lateral condyle of the tibia was separated from its anterolateral rim and completely dislocated posteriorly, with no contact with the lateral condyle of the femur. Besides this, there was a complete disruption of the proximal tibiofibular joint as well. To further add to the problem, the distal pulses in the affected limb had a reduced volume. Stepwise management of all aspects of this injury has been described in this technical note along with a six-month follow-up.
Correct management of Hoffa fractures is a challenge in the clinical context. Open reduction along with internal fixation should be the therapy of choice. Mechanical trials with the main internal fixation systems conducted by individualized finite element (FEM) models, to date, have been neglected. The aim of this study was to biomechanically analyze four fixation methods for the treatment of Type II Hoffa fracture (OTA Classification 33B3.2∗ lateral) using FEM.

Fracture union is a fundamental goal in orthopaedics. There is variability in assessment and lack of consensus on reliability of various methods to evaluate progress of union. The purpose of this study was to study the temporal association of non-conventional methods i.e. Serum Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP) and Ultrasound (USG) in assessment of fracture healing with reference to plain radiographs (X-ray).
This was a prospective observational cohort study of 161 adult patients with surgically treated long bone diaphyseal fractures. Plain radiographs, ALP and USG evaluation was done every 6 weekly for 6 months. USG evaluation included assessment of echogenicity and Doppler measurement of Vascular Resistance Index (RI) of callus. Fractures were considered united when X-ray showed bridging callus. ALP and USG changes over the follow-up period were analysed based on the final outcome of fractures.
151 patients showed signs of fracture union at final follow-up. ALP which peaked at 6 weeks in all cases always rem appear as promising investigations in assessment of the progress in fracture union.

In the adult population there are only a few documented cases of tibial tuberosity fractures. This is only the second recorded case of bifocal patella tendon avulsion. The patient was managed successfully by fixation of the tibial tuberosity alone as the patella fracture was undisplaced and the patella retinaculum intact. A key point was screening the patella fracture at time of fixation to aid this decision. We achieved a good outcome at one year with internal fixation and early mobilisation.Tibial plateau fracture-dislocations are relatively uncommon injuries. They represent instability patterns due to injured collateral ligaments or extensive condylar depression. Medial and lateral subluxations of the fractured fragments represent the majority of these injuries. Posterior dislocations with the tibial plateau fractures are extremely rare injuries. Moreover, isolated posterior dislocations of the tibial condyles with a normally maintained position of the remaining tibia have not been reported in literature. We describe a difficult case scenario in which whole of the articular segment of the lateral condyle of the tibia was separated from its anterolateral rim and completely dislocated posteriorly, with no contact with the lateral condyle of the femur. Besides this, there was a complete disruption of the proximal tibiofibular joint as well. To further add to the problem, the distal pulses in the affected limb had a reduced volume. Stepwise management of all aspects of this injury has been described in this technical note along with a six-month follow-up. Correct management of Hoffa fractures is a challenge in the clinical context. Open reduction along with internal fixation should be the therapy of choice. Mechanical trials with the main internal fixation systems conducted by individualized finite element (FEM) models, to date, have been neglected. The purpose of this study was to study the temporal association of non-conventional methods i.e. Serum Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP) and Ultrasound (USG) in assessment of fracture healing with reference to plain radiographs (X-ray). This was a prospective observational cohort study of 161 adult patients with surgically treated long bone diaphyseal fractures. Plain radiographs, ALP and USG evaluation was done every 6 weekly for 6 months. USG evaluation included assessment of echogenicity and Doppler measurement of Vascular Resistance Index (RI) of callus. Fractures were considered united when X-ray showed bridging callus. ALP and USG changes over the follow-up period were analysed based on the final outcome of fractures. 151 patients showed signs of fracture union at final follow-up. No electronic trace detection system currently exists that is capable of continuously monitoring both peroxide based explosives and certain nitrogen based explosives, or their precursors, in the vapor phase. Recently, we developed a thermodynamic sensor that can detect a multitude of explosives in the vapor phase at the parts-per-trillion (ppt) level. The sensors rely on the catalytic decomposition of the explosive and specific oxidation-reduction reactions between the energetic molecule and metal oxide catalyst; i.e. the heat effects associated with catalytic decomposition and redox reactions between the decomposition products and catalyst are measured. Improved sensor response and selectivity were achieved by fabricating free-standing, ultrathin film (1 µm thick) microheater sensors for this purpose. The fabrication method used here relies on the interdiffusion mechanics between a copper (Cu) adhesion layer and the palladium (Pd) microheater sensor. An 1800-item dataset is constructed through measured data and artificial data by using a geostatistical technique, which can provide the information of an unknown area based on measured data. The important variables are also investigated though random forest (RF) to overcome the number of various input variables. In this study, we deployed O2-specific planar optodes to visualize spatiotemporal distribution of O2 in soils treated with biological soil disinfestation (BSD). This study aimed to reveal the role of anoxia development on emissions of N2O and CH4 from soil amended with crop residues during BSD period. The incorporation of crop residues includes wheat straw only, wheat straw with biochar and early straw incorporation. The anoxia in soil developed very fast within 3 days, while the O2 in headspace decreased **** slower and it became anaerobic after 5 days, which was significantly affected by straw and biochar additions. The N2O emissions were positively correlated with soil hypoxic fraction. The CH4 emissions were not significant until the anoxia dominated in both soil and headspace. The co-application of biochar with straw delayed the anoxia development and extended the hypoxic area in soil, resulting in lower emissions of N2O and CH4.

Sexual transmission chains of Ebola virus (EBOV) have been verified and linked to EBOV RNA persistence in semen, post-recovery. The rate of semen persistence over time, including the average duration of persistence among Ebola virus disease (EVD) survivors, is not well known. This cohort study aimed to analyze population estimates of EBOV RNA persistence rates in semen over time, and associated risk factors in a population of survivors from Sierra Leone.
In this cohort study from May 2015 to April 2017 in Sierra Leone, recruitment was conducted in 2 phases; the first enrolled 100 male participants from the Western Area District in the capital of Freetown, and the second enrolled 120 men from the Western Area District and from Lungi, Port Loko District. Mean age of participants was 31 years. The men provided semen for testing, analyzed by quantitative reverse transcription PCR (qRT-PCR) for the presence of EBOV RNA. Follow-up occurred every 2 weeks until the endpoint, defined as 2 consecutive negative qRT-results will enable planning of the magnitude of testing and targeted counseling needs over time.
In this study we observed that EBOV RNA persistence in semen was a frequent phenomenon, with high population rates over time. This finding will inform forthcoming updated recommendations on risk reduction strategies relating to sexual transmission of EBOV. Our findings support implementation of a semen testing program as part of epidemic preparedness and response. Further, the results will enable planning of the magnitude of testing and targeted counseling needs over time.Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli are globally recognized as a major cause of bacterial foodborne gastroenteritis. A cross-sectional study was conducted from October 2015 to May 2016 in Mekelle city to isolate, identify, and estimate the prevalence of C. jejuni and C. coli in raw meat samples and to determine their antibiotic susceptibility pattern. A total of 384 raw meat samples were randomly collected from bovine (n = 210), goat (n = 108), and chicken (n = 66), and isolation and identification of Campylobacter spp. were performed using standard bacteriological techniques and PCR. Antibiotic susceptibility test was performed using disc diffusion method. Of the total 384 raw meat samples, 64 (16.67%) were found positive for Campylobacter spp. The highest prevalence of Campylobacter spp. was found in chicken meat (43.93%) followed by bovine meat (11.90%) and goat meat (9.25%). The most prevalent Campylobacter spp. isolated from meat samples was C. jejuni (81.25%). The overall prevalence of Campylobacter in restaurants, butcher shops, and abattoir was 43.93%, 18.30%, and 9.30%, respectively. 96.8%, 81.25%, 75%, and 71% of the Campylobacter spp. isolates were sensitive to norfloxacin, erythromycin, chloramphenicol, and sulphamethoxazole-trimethoprim, respectively. However, 96.9%, 85.9%, and 50% of the isolates were resistant to ampicillin, amoxicillin, and streptomycin, respectively. Strains that developed multi-drug resistant were 68.7%. The result of this study revealed the occurrence of Campylobacter in bovine, goat, and chicken meats. Hence, there is a chance of acquiring infection via consumption of raw or undercooked meat. Thus, implementation of hygienic practices from a slaughterhouse to the retailers, proper handling and cooking of foods of meat are very important in preventing Campylobacter infection.The estimation of the vertical components of built-up areas from free Digital Elevation Model (DEM) global data filtered by multi-scale convolutional, morphological and textural transforms are generalized at the spatial resolution of 250 meters using linear least-squares regression techniques. Six test cases were selected Hong Kong, London, New York, San Francisco, Sao Paulo, and Toronto. Five global DEM and two DEM composites are evaluated in terms of 60 combinations of linear, morphological and textural filtering and different generalization techniques. Four generalized vertical components estimates of built-up areas are introduced the Average Gross Building Height (AGBH), the Average Net Building Height (ANBH), the Standard Deviation of Gross Building Height (SGBH), and the Standard Deviation of Net Building Height (SNBH). The study shows that the best estimation of the net GVC of built-up areas given by the ANBH and SNBH, always contains a greater error than their corresponding gross GVC estimation given s to a sampling size that is larger than the expected average horizontal size of built-up structures as detected from nadir-angle Earth Observation (EO) data, producing more reliable estimates for gross vertical components than for net vertical component of built-up areas. Experiences with SARS in 2003 and SARS-CoV-2 have shown that health professionals are at higher risk of contracting COVID-19. Hence, it has been recommended that aperiodic wide-scale assessment of the knowledge and preparedness of health professionals regarding the current COVID-19 pandemic is critical.
This study aimed to assess the knowledge and preparedness of health professionals regarding COVID-19 among selected hospitals in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
A facility-based cross-sectional study was conducted from the last week of March to early April, 2020. Government (n = 6) and private hospitals (n = 4) were included. The front-line participants with high exposure were proportionally recruited from their departments. The collected data from a self-administered questionnaire were entered using EpiData and analyzed in SPSS software. Both descriptive statistics and inferential statistics (chi-square tests) are presented.

Six test cases were selected Hong Kong, London, New York, San Francisco, Sao Paulo, and Toronto. Five global DEM and two DEM composites are evaluated in terms of 60 combinations of linear, morphological and textural filtering and different generalization techniques. The front-line participants with high exposure were proportionally recruited from their departments.
