Runners capable of completing a half-marathon or marathon race and were randomized to receive true (using an introducer and needle) or sham (using an introducer and fixed, blunted needle) dry needling. Blinded subjects were asked to identify if they received sham or true dry needling following the procedure. Proportions of those who correctly identified their needling were also examined on the basis of past experience of receiving dry needling.
Fifty-three participants were included in this study, with 25 receiving the true dry needling procedure and 28 receiving the sham. Of those who had received dry needling in the past (n = 16), 11 (68.8%) correctly identified their respective groups. For those who had not previously received dry needling (n = 37), 13 (35.1%) accurately identified their group. Most importantly, 94.1% of dry needling-naïve participants were unable to identify they received the sham procedure (p < 0.001).
This study shows that a fixed needle in an introducer tube is a simple, inexpensive, effective sham procedure in patients who have never received dry needling before. This technique may be useful for randomized controlled trials in the future.

Dancers are a unique category of athletes who are frequently injured and experience pain. The primary cause of dance injuries is overuse, which could potentially be prevented. However, literature is scarce regarding validated methods of evaluating the risk of injury in dancers. The Movement Competency Screen (MCS) could potentially fill this gap.
To investigate the validity of the Movement Competency Screen (MCS) for dancers by 1) examining the correlation between scores on this functional test and the activation of deep abdominals and hip strength; 2) investigating the correlation between MCS scores and those of the Functional Movement Screen (FMS™).
Cross-sectional study.
A total of 77 pre-professional and professional dancers from ballet and contemporary backgrounds were evaluated. The activation of deep abdominals was evaluated using ultrasound imaging and the hip strength was evaluated using a handheld dynamometer. The FMS™, another tool evaluating fundamental movement competency, was also administered.
The dancers' MCS score was correlated with the activation of the transversus abdominis (r=0.239, p=0.036) and the strength of hip abductors (r=0.293, p=0.010), adductors (r=0.267, p=0.019) and external rotators (r=0.249, p=0.029). The MCS score was also correlated with the FMS™ score (r=0.489, p<0.001).
This study shows that the MCS score is correlated with deep abdominal activation and hip strength in dancers, as well as with the FMS™ score. These findings provide evidence toward the validation of the MCS in dancers.

Near point of convergence (NPC), a component of the Vestibular Ocular Motor Screening (VOMS) assessment, may be helpful in diagnosing concussion. The VOMS uses a standardized approach to measure NPC; however, methods of screening for NPC are not standardized.
The purpose of this study was to determine whether four different methods of measuring NPC yielded different estimates.

Healthy recreational athletes participated in a comparison of 4 commonly used methods of measuring NPC a 12-point font target, the VOMS (14-point font target), the tip of a black pen, and the Bernell Vergel

Seventy-five participants (59 females, 16 males; mean [SD] age=21.0 [6.12] years) completed 3 trials. The mean (SD) of the 900 NPC measurements was 7.11 (3.67) cm. This study evaluated and compared the effects of different treatment modalities on survival outcomes in patients with PALN recurrence. Methods Patients diagnosed with isolated PALN recurrence after curative resection for primary colorectal cancer from January 2004 to December 2014 were evaluated retrospectively. Patients with isolated recurrence were selected using imaging modalities. Overall survival (OS) and survival after recurrence (SAR) were analyzed and compared between different treatments using the Kaplan-Meier method. Results The median OS was 64 months with a median follow-up time of 50 months. Of the 46 patients with PALN recurrence, 35 (76.1%) had isolated recurrences. Of these 35 patients, 16 underwent PALN resection and 19 received chemotherapy. Median SAR was significantly longer in patients who did than did not undergo resection (71 months vs. 39 months, P = 0.017). Median OS tended to be longer in patients who did than did not undergo resection (77 months vs. 62 months, P = 0.055). SAR was similar in patients who received radiotherapy and those who underwent resection (34 months vs. 46 months, P = 0.146). Three of 16 patients (18.8%) who underwent resection were found to be recurrence-free. Conclusion Surgical resection of isolated PALN recurrence may benefit patients, with favorable survival outcomes and by providing definitive diagnosis for proper treatment planning. Determination of the extent of surgery through accurate diagnosis is important in these tumoral lesions. In this study, we assessed the accuracy of preoperative CT and identified the factors affecting diagnosis. Methods Patients diagnosed or strongly suspected from July 2016 to June 2019 with appendiceal mucocele or mucinous neoplasm using abdominal CT were included in the study. All the patients underwent single-incision laparoscopic cecectomy with the margin of cecum secured at least 2 cm from the appendiceal base. To compare blood test results and CT findings, the patients were divided into a mucinous and a nonmucinous group according to pathology. Results The total number of patients included in this study was 54 and biopsy confirmed appendiceal mucinous neoplasms in 39 of them. With CT, the accuracy of diagnosis was 89.7%. The mean age of the mucinous group was greater than that of the nonmucinous group (P = 0.035). CT showed that the maximum diameter of appendiceal tumor in the mucinous group was greater than that in the nonmucinous group (P less then 0.001). Calcification was found only in the appendix of patients in the mucinous group (P = 0.012). Multivariate analysis revealed that lager tumor diameter was a factor of diagnosis for appendiceal mucinous neoplasm. Conclusion The accuracy of preoperative diagnosis of appendiceal mucinous neoplasms in this study was 89.7%. Blood test results did not provide differential diagnosis, and the larger the diameter of appendiceal tumor on CT, the more accurate the diagnosis. Methods Between January 2003 and December 2012, a single-institution cohort of 429 patients who underwent hepatic resection for IHCC were reviewed retrospectively. Surgical results, recurrence, and survival rates were investigated, and multivariate analyses were performed to identify prognostic factors. Results The overall 1- , 3- , 5- and 10-year survival rates of patients were 76.5%, 44.1%, 33.3%, and 25.1%, respectively. Multivariate analysis showed that the serum CA 19-9 level (≥38 U/mL) (P less then 0.001), lymph node (LN) metastasis (P = 0.001), and lymphovascular invasion (LVI) (P = 0.012) were independent factors associated with overall survival. In particular, CA 19-9 level and histologic type were determined to be independent factors affecting survival for more than 10 years. Methods The thyrothymic region was explored for identification, dissection, and excision of separate thyroidal remnants in 134 patients who underwent primary thyroid surgery. In this series, we studied the incidence and anatomical features of the thyrothymic remnant and its relation with other embryologic remnants. Results Overall, 222 sides of the thyroid were explored in this study. An entirely separate thyrothymic remnant of the thyroid was identified and excised in 8 of 134 patients (6%). Mean size of removed remnants was 36.4 mm (range, 29-45 mm) in diameter. The incidences of pyramidal lobe (PL) and Zuckerkandl's tubercle (ZT) were 71.6% and 59.7%, respectively. The thyrothymic remnant coexisted with PLs in 4 patients.

To explore the genetic basis for a child with ocular anomaly, microcephaly, growth retardation and intrauterine growth restriction.
The patient underwent ophthalmologic examinations including anterior segment photography, fundus color photography, and fundus fluorescein angiography. The patient and her parents were subjected to whole exome sequencing. Candidate variants were verified by Sanger sequencing and bioinformatic analysis.
The patient was found to have bilateral persistent pupillary membrane and coloboma of inferior iris, in addition with macular dysplasia and radial pigmentation near the hemal arch of the temporal retina. She was found to have carried compound heterozygous missense variants of the PHGDH gene, namely c.196G>A and c.1177G>A, which were respectively inherited from her father and mother. Bioinformatic analysis suggested both variants to be pathogenic.

All coding exons and flanking sequences of the ACAT1 gene were subjected to targeted capture and high-throughput sequencing. Suspected variants were verified by Sanger sequencing and bioinformatic analysis.
The child was found to harbor compound heterozygous variants of the ACAT1 gene, namely c.121-3C>G and c.275G>A (p. Gly92Asp). The c.121-3C>G variant was also detected in his father and two sisters, while the c.275G>A (p. Gly92Asp) was a de novo variant. A c.334+ 172C>G (rs12226047) polymorphism was also detected in his mother and two sisters. Sanger sequencing has verified that the c.275G>A (p. Gly92Asp) and c.334+172C>G (rs12226047) variants are located on the same chromosome. Bioinformatics analysis suggested both c.121-3C>G and c.275G>A (p.G92D) variants to be damaging. Based on the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics standards and guidelines, the c.275G>A variant of the ACAT1 gene was predicted to be pathogenic (PS2+ PM2+ PM3+ PP3+PP4), the c.121-3C>G variant to be likely pathogenic (PM2+ PM3+ PP3+PP4).

The patient underwent ophthalmologic examinations including anterior segment photography, fundus color photography, and fundus fluorescein angiography. The situation caused by the rapidly increasing number of new cases and deaths due to COVID-19 required the rapid development of international recommendations and procedures to limit the spread of infections and ongoing monitoring of the epidemiological situation. In the field of epidemiological surveillance of COVID-19 cases, international organizations - WHO and regionally ECDC, have developed basic requirements for reporting data on newly detected cases of infection. In order to ensure the possibility of reporting new cases and activities undertaken by sanitary-epidemiological services in the country and to fulfill the obligation to report data to the European surveillance network, it was necessary to adapt the electronic system supporting epidemiological surveillance operations, for registration of suspected and confirmed cases of SARS-CoV-2 infections. This work presents the characteristics of the new COVID-19 module created as part of the central Epidemiological Case Reporting System and a preliminary evaluation of its usefulness for the purposes of combating COVID-19. CONCLUSIONS. The Epidemiological Case Reporting System is an efficient and adequate tool that can be adapted to newly emerging threats. In order to use the module to monitor the current epidemiological situation, it is necessary to integrate it with other systems collecting data about COVID-19 patients - ie. EWP and the clinical patient register.
The current implementation project aimed to improve patients' sleep quality in a hospital by implementing targeted interventions to reduce sleep disturbances.
The Silent Night project was implemented in two general units of an academic tertiary hospital. The project comprised three phases preimplementation, implementation, and postimplementation. Patient surveys were administered to obtain patients' perspectives on the sources of noise disturbances at night. Noise-monitoring machines were installed in two wards to obtain objective data on noise levels at night. Concurrently, data were collected on noise-generating activities that were observed.
The overall quality of sleep reported by patients improved by 17% (from 73.5 to 88.9%). Patients' survey reported reduced noise disturbances from direct care activities, environmental noise and medical equipment alarms. The mean noise level in the orthopedics unit reduced significantly from 57.04 to 55.22 dB with a corresponding decrease in noise generating activities by 60% (from 362 to 144). In the geriatric unit, the mean noise level increased from 51.36 to 53.12 dB but is within the National Environmental Agency's permissible noise level of 55 dB even though the noise generating activities reduced significantly by 92.2% (from 954 to 74).

Subcutaneous delivery of anticoagulant therapy is a common treatment modality across multiple medical disciplines. However, postinjection complications of bruising and pain continues to be a problem that has the propensity to affect patients physically and psychologically. A review of literature revealed a set of recommended injection techniques that have shown to improve these clinical outcomes.
The project aims to utilize an evidence implementation framework to introduce evidence-based injection technique, for the reduction of postinjection complications.
A best practice implementation project was administered across three adult- cardiology and cardio-thoracic general wards in Singapore from March 2018 to February 2019. The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI)'s framework of evidence implementation was utilized to enable change. A baseline audit was carried out to ascertain existing injection practices. Guided by the latest evidence, a new subcutaneous injection workflow was created and disseminated. Follow-up audits were held at 1 and 8-month postimplementation to assess compliance to the new subcutaneous injection workflow and the sustainment of change.

Anemia remains a major problem for global public health. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that anemia affected more than 1.62 billion people worldwide. Data from National Health Survey (Riskesdas) in 2013 shown that anemia prevalence was 21.7%. Yogyakarta Health Profile showed that the prevalence of anemia women of reproductive age has increased from 22,45% to 28,1% between 2010 and 2014, while in Bantul was 20% indicating a moderate public health problem. The objective of this study was to determine the correlation between knowledge, iron intake, and folate intake with anemia status among women of reproductive age in Bantul Regency. This research used cross sectional method. The samples were selected by using probability sampling method with simple random sampling technique by lottery and specifying inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data was analyzed with Chi-square test using SPSS. The results showed that there was no correlation between knowledge level and anemia status. Anemia status was significantly correlated with iron intake, but not with folate intake. Conclusion Anemia was associated with iron intake among women of reproductive age.Anemia is one of the major problems among female adolescents in Indonesia. Weekly iron-folic acid supplementation was a cost-effective measure to tackle adolescent anemia. However, adherence to the supplementation is low. After obtaining consent the data were collected, coded and analysed using SPSS23. The inclusion criteria were high school female from 18 schools which had iron tablets program. The majority of subjects was 14-16 y old (73.7%). The majority of schools gave iron tablets to students without organizing taking iron tablets together (63.5%). The adherence to consume iron and folic acid tablets in this study was 45.6% (n=125). Almost half of highschool female (36.1%) cited they did not think that iron tablets are necessary while 12.4% cited experiencing side effects. Factors that were correlated (p less then 0.005) were school organizing taking iron tablets together, the student's age, knowledge, motivation, self efficacy, prior Hb level examination, and teacher educating the benefits of iron tablets to students (OR=9.5, CI=5.4-16.8, OR=0.43, CI=0.23-0.78, OR=2.12, CI=1.29-3.48, OR=6.55, CI=3.77-11.4, OR=6.39, CI=3.7-10.9 respectively). Its deficiency is not uncommon in India owing to vegetarianism but often unrecognized due to diverse clinical manifestations. This review aims to collate the current data on vitamin B12 status in healthy Indian adult and elderly population. Online database Pubmed was searched for articles published in English between 2000 and 2019. Inclusion criteria consisted of original studies conducted on apparently healthy adult and elderly Indian population reporting serum/plasma vitamin B12 levels. Comprehensive literature search identified 14 studies eligible for inclusion. The deficiency prevalence reached 78.5% and 61.7% among adults and elderly, respectively, based on varying cut offs. Higher vitamin B12 levels were reported in women than men. Hyperhomocysteinemia (Hcy >15 μmol/L) was lower in females as compared to males (60% vs 90%, 14.9% vs 57.4% and 3.6% vs 20.9% respectively in three studies). Vitamin B12 deficiency was higher in vegetarians. The results indicate that inadequate vitamin B12 status is a wide spread problem in the Indian population. However, variety of laboratory methods and cut-offs of vitamin B12 deficiency and the heterogeneity in results pose challenges to draw clear conclusions on the extent of vitamin B12 deficiency in India. At the end of study there were a significant decrease in prevalence of underweight (p=0.003), the incidence of underweight in NE+MNB (45.2%) lower than NE group (63.3%), MNB group (64.5%) and control group (69,0%) and significant decrease of iron deficiency (p=0.02), the incidence lower in MNB group (6.5%) than NE+MNB (22.6%), NE group (23.3%) and control group (24.1%). The combination of nutritional education and multi-nutrient biscuits intervention improving nutritional and iron deficiency status on undernourished children. Anemia remains a major problem for global public health. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that anemia affected more than 1.62 billion people worldwide. Data from National Health Survey (Riskesdas) in 2013 shown that anemia prevalence was 21.7%. Yogyakarta Health Profile showed that the prevalence of anemia women of reproductive age has increased from 22,45% to 28,1% between 2010 and 2014, while in Bantul was 20% indicating a moderate public health problem. The objective of this study was to determine the correlation between knowledge, iron intake, and folate intake with anemia status among women of reproductive age in Bantul Regency. This research used cross sectional method. The samples were selected by using probability sampling method with simple random sampling technique by lottery and specifying inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data was analyzed with Chi-square test using SPSS. The results showed that there was no correlation between knowledge level and anemia status. Anemia status was significantly correlated with iron intake, but not with folate intake. Conclusion Anemia was associated with iron intake among women of reproductive age.Anemia is one of the major problems among female adolescents in Indonesia. Weekly iron-folic acid supplementation was a cost-effective measure to tackle adolescent anemia. However, adherence to the supplementation is low. This study was aimed to explore the determinants of t highschool females' adherence to consume iron-folic acid tablets. Using cross sectional design with 274 subjects. After obtaining consent the data were collected, coded and analysed using SPSS23. The inclusion criteria were high school female from 18 schools which had iron tablets program. The majority of subjects was 14-16 y old (73.7%). The majority of schools gave iron tablets to students without organizing taking iron tablets together (63.5%). The adherence to consume iron and folic acid tablets in this study was 45.6% (n=125). Almost half of highschool female (36.1%) cited they did not think that iron tablets are necessary while 12.4% cited experiencing side effects. Factors that were correlated (p less then 0.005) were school organizing taking iron tablets together, the student's age, knowledge, motivation, self efficacy, prior Hb level examination, and teacher educating the benefits of iron tablets to students (OR=9.5, CI=5.4-16.8, OR=0.43, CI=0.23-0.78, OR=2.12, CI=1.29-3.48, OR=6.55, CI=3.77-11.4, OR=6.39, CI=3.7-10.9 respectively). Its deficiency is not uncommon in India owing to vegetarianism but often unrecognized due to diverse clinical manifestations. This review aims to collate the current data on vitamin B12 status in healthy Indian adult and elderly population. Online database Pubmed was searched for articles published in English between 2000 and 2019. Inclusion criteria consisted of original studies conducted on apparently healthy adult and elderly Indian population reporting serum/plasma vitamin B12 levels. Comprehensive literature search identified 14 studies eligible for inclusion. The deficiency prevalence reached 78.5% and 61.7% among adults and elderly, respectively, based on varying cut offs. Higher vitamin B12 levels were reported in women than men. Hyperhomocysteinemia (Hcy >15 μmol/L) was lower in females as compared to males (60% vs 90%, 14.9% vs 57.4% and 3.6% vs 20.9% respectively in three studies). Vitamin B12 deficiency was higher in vegetarians. The results indicate that inadequate vitamin B12 status is a wide spread problem in the Indian population. However, variety of laboratory methods and cut-offs of vitamin B12 deficiency and the heterogeneity in results pose challenges to draw clear conclusions on the extent of vitamin B12 deficiency in India. The aim of this study was to determine the spontaneous pregnancy rate and safety of our surgical technique of performing laparoscopy cystectomy for endometrioma.
This is a 5-year retrospective study, carried out at Mahkota Medical Centre, Melaka, Malaysia. 143 patients with endometrioma associated with moderate to severe endometriosis underwent laparoscopic cystectomy from 2015 to 2019. The surgery commenced with dissection and excision of all the endometriotic lesions followed by injection of diluted vasopressin into the space between the cyst wall and the normal ovarian cortex. Stripping of the cyst wall was performed until the ovarian hilum was reached. The cyst wall was then excised, leaving some of the cyst wall on the hilum area. Minimal bipolar electrocoagulation was done on this remaining cyst wall. The ovary was then reconstructed with suturing. During the surgery, the severity of the disease was staged, endometrioma diameter and intraoperative findings were recorded. Fertility outcomes were deted in a spontaneous pregnancy rate of 42.1% in patients with moderate and severe endometriosis.
COVID-19 is a highly transmissible respiratory virus that has affected millions of people worldwide in the span of months. The burden of disease among healthcare workers (HCW) has not been well studied despite reports of infectivity and transmission around the world. Two HCW in Hospital Teluk Intan (HTI) contracted COVID-19 while attending a social event. They were in close proximity with colleagues upon returning to work, resulting in the spread of infection among other HCW in HTI.
The objectives of this paper are to gain a better understanding of the key presenting symptoms of COVID-19 in HCWs in a district specialist hospital, to establish the proportion of symptomatic COVID-19 cases among HCWs and its severity and to determine the time taken from onset of symptoms or perceived exposure to diagnostic testing.
This is a retrospective descriptive analysis of clinical characteristics of subjects infected with COVID-19 among HCW in HTI. Their demography and clinical characteristics were recorded.

Spontaneous subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) is a significant cause of stroke and associated with high morbidity and mortality. One substantial complication of SAH is cerebral vasospasm (CV) and delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI). This study aimed to define the clinical profile in patients with SAH, CV and DCI secondary to spontaneous SAH (aneurysmal and pretruncal non-aneurysmal).
We analysed 122 consecutive patients with spontaneous SAH following intracranial aneurysmal and non-aneurysmal information (including patients' pattern characterisation and their possible risk factor association to pre-operative clinical decision and long-term clinical outcome) was documented and analysed.
The main clinical presentations for spontaneous SAH following ruptured intracranial aneurysm and nonaneurysm were headache (77%) and nausea/vomiting (62.3%). The most common sites for SAH following ruptured intracranial aneurysm rupture were the anterior and posterior communicating arteries (57.5%). Hypertension was the most comd non-aneurysmal rupture and it is associated with substantial morbidity. Prevention, effective monitoring, and early detection are keys to successful management. Regional investigation using a multicentre cohort to analyse mortality and survival rates may aid in improving national resource management of these patients.
Thrombolytic therapy with intravenous alteplase is a well-established treatment for acute ischaemic stroke (AIS). However, in Malaysia, treatment prescription is often limited by the availability of neurologists. The objective was to compare the outcomes of acute stroke thrombolysis therapy prescribed by neurologists in the Seberang Jaya Hospital (SJH) and non-neurologists in the Taiping Hospital (TH).
In this cross-sectional study, all AIS patients who received thrombolytic therapy in SJH and TH between January 2012 and September 2019 were included. Clinical data was extracted from admission records. The outcomes assessed were the percentage of patients who achieved excellent functional outcome at 3 months (modified Rankin scale of 0 to 1), rates of symptomatic intracranial haemorrhage (SICH), and mortality.
A total of 63 AIS patients who received thrombolytic therapy were included, of which 37 patients (58.7%) were treated in SJH. The median NIHSS on admission was 12 in SJH and 11.5 in TH. In all 21.6% of patients from SJH and 30.7% of patients from TH achieved favourable functional outcome at 3 months (p=0.412). There were no significant differences between the two centres in terms of the rates of SICH (10.8% in SJH and 3.8% in TH, p=0.314) and 3-month mortality (24.3% versus 12.5%, p=0.203).
The 3-month functional outcomes and complication rates of stroke thrombolysis in hospitals with or without neurologists are not significantly different. Thus non-neurologist hospitals may be able to provide thrombolysis service to AIS patients safely and effectively.

Trapeziometacarpal joint arthritis is a prevalent condition with a preponderance to women. Most cases are asymptomatic, but typical symptoms are pain, reduced dexterity, and functional decline. Trapeziectomy is the most common surgical treatment in the United Kingdom for patients who remain significantly symptomatic despite nonoperative measures, and this generally produces acceptable outcomes; however, a proportion of patients remain significantly symptomatic. The authors present a case series of 4 patients who underwent successful thumb metacarpal base to index metacarpal base arthrodesis with either distal radial or iliac crest bone grafting. Three of these patients had persisting symptoms after a primary trapeziectomy and 1 patient had gross subluxation of the thumb related to rheumatoid arthritis. Technically, this is a simple procedure to perform. All patients had improved symptoms with satisfactory functional outcomes and an improved cosmetic appearance of the hand.Vascularized toe joint transfer can be an alternative treatment for children who have hypoplastic thumb with unstable carpometacarpal joint and refuse thumb ablation with index pollicization. This procedure can reconstruct a 5-digit hand with stable thumb for opposition. As the viable epiphyseal plate is included in this transfer, the potential for future growth can be expected from this type of reconstruction. This article describes details of the surgical procedures. The outcomes of this reconstruction are shown in a 7-year-old girl who presented with hypoplastic thumb type IV. Initially, her thumb was unstable, nonmobile, and had no function. The skin pedicle of this thumb had a diameter of about 3 mm. Preoperative radiography showed floating thumb without first metacarpal bone. The vascularized metatarsophalangeal joint from the opposite second toe was used for her hypoplastic thumb reconstruction. During the procedure, the flail thumb was preserved. The intraoperative bone gap that was needed for reconstruction was 3.5 cm. The artery was anastomosed with common digital artery from the third web space. Two dorsal veins were joined with the subcutaneous vein at the dorsum of the hand. Total operative time was 6 hours. At the 9-month follow-up, this girl achieved a 5-digit hand with stable thumb that had opposition to the tip of her little finger. She can use this hand to perform all activities of daily living without any pain. Both patient and parents were very satisfied with the functional and cosmetic appearance.

The research regarding cannabis use in patients with craniotomy surgeries is sparse and often conducted in states where cannabis use is legal. This study compared 24-hour postoperative craniotomy pain levels in patients who reported cannabis use in a state where cannabis is not yet legal. METHODS This is an observational prospective, nonrandomized, pilot study of postoperative craniotomy patients. Patients were consented and given a one-time self-report questionnaire regarding postoperative pain, pain management method, type of pain medication used at home (including cannabis), route of administration, and frequency of use. Subjects scored pain on both the numeric rating scale and the visual analog scale. Demographic data were collected from the electronic medical record. RESULTS Forty-five patients with a mean age of 57 years, 62% female, participated on the sensitive topic of cannabis use is feasible and seems to generate honest responses. One-third of patients reported home use of cannabis in a state where cannabis is illegal.

METHOD We conducted a mixed-method study with convergent parallel design. Quantitative data were collected with the Mutuality Scale, and qualitative data were collected using deep interviews. BACKGROUND Muscle weakness is a debilitating condition that can lead to frailty, falls, and functional decline. Muscle weakness is found across many diseases; therefore, understanding what constitutes this condition is paramount. The National Library of Medicine provides 2 definitions of muscle weakness, both from a disease perspective. These definitions are narrow and do not account for overlapping causes of muscle weakness. Nurses are holistic practitioners, so they need to understand the clinical characteristics of muscle weakness, regardless of underlying disease processes. METHODS Secondary analysis of data from an earlier qualitative study. Using content analysis of transcripts of semistructured interviews with a multidisciplinary group of 12 experts in the management of muscle disorders, we identified characteristics of muscle weakness from the clinicians' perspectives. RESULTS Muscle weakness has characteristics of debility, loss of function, and asymmetry. The characteristics of debility include lawareness of what constitutes muscle weakness, regardless of diagnosis, is the first step in optimal management of this condition.

BACKGROUND Muscle weakness is a debilitating condition that can lead to frailty, falls, and functional decline. Muscle weakness is found across many diseases; therefore, understanding what constitutes this condition is paramount. The National Library of Medicine provides 2 definitions of muscle weakness, both from a disease perspective. These definitions are narrow and do not account for overlapping causes of muscle weakness. Nurses are holistic practitioners, so they need to understand the clinical characteristics of muscle weakness, regardless of underlying disease processes. METHODS Secondary analysis of data from an earlier qualitative study. Using content analysis of transcripts of semistructured interviews with a multidisciplinary group of 12 experts in the management of muscle disorders, we identified characteristics of muscle weakness from the clinicians' perspectives. RESULTS Muscle weakness has characteristics of debility, loss of function, and asymmetry. On the mobile application, clinicians viewed patient data, provided direct patient feedback, and wrote electronic prescriptions accessible through participating pharmacies. To date, 1266 patients had been enrolled in the "real-world" implementation cohort and followed for an average of 351 ± 133 days across 5 facilities. Average baseline systolic blood pressure (SBP) was 145 ± 21 mmHg in the overall cohort and 159 ± 16 mmHg in the subgroup with uncontrolled hypertension (n = 743) as defined by baseline SBP ≥ 140 mmHg. The versatility of graphene is that its Fermi energy can be electrically varied, thus allowing us to change the peak reflectivity of the graphene Bragg-grating without physically changing its physical dimensions. Therefore, by varying the Bragg wavelength, we can shift the resonance frequency of the cavity. One use of our resonator is in plasmonic lasers. We illustrate this use by analyzing the resonator parameters such as the linewidth and the quality factor of the plasmonic resonator.The aim of this study is to determine the molecular functions of brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in Huntington's disease (HD). A total of 1,675 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were overlapped from HD versus control and BDNF-low versus high groups. Five co-expression modules were constructed using weight gene correlation network analysis, among which the blue and turquoise modules were most strongly correlated with HD and low BDNF. Functional enrichment analyses revealed DEGs in these modules significantly enriched in GABAergic synapse, phagosome, cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK), renin-angiotensin system (Ras), Ras-associated protein-1 and retrograde endocannabinoid signaling pathways. The intersection pathways of BDNF, such as cAMP, MAPK and Ras signaling pathways, were identified in global regulatory network. Further performance evaluation of low BDNF accurately predicted HD occurrence according to the area under the curve of 82.4%. Thirteen studies (totaling 278 participants; 235 males and 43 females; age range 20-60 years) were deemed eligible for analysis. Data extraction was performed independently by both authors. Data were analyzed via correlation and hierarchical regression. The final regression model explained 20.30% of variance in physical activity (p less then .001). Intrinsic value (β = 0.26, p = .01) and expectancy beliefs (β = 0.33, p less then .001) each emerged as significant predictors of physical activity engagement, which suggests that expectancy-value theory may have some utility for investigating the physical activity engagement of individuals with visual impairments. However, the lack of significant contribution of other variables such as attainment and utility values, as well as barriers factors, underscores the need for additional research in this area.Inquiry of the psychological states during the exercise experience failed to fully account for the role of motivation to adhere and the disposition of exertion tolerance (ET). Thirty male participants performed cycling and isometric handgrip tasks to assess the progression of the rating of perceived exertion, attentional focus, affective responses, and motivation to adhere, along with an incremental workload. The ET was determined by a handgrip task time to voluntary exhaustion. The findings indicated significant time effects and linear trends for perceived exertion, attentional focus, affect, and perceived arousal but not motivation to adhere during the handgrip and cycling tasks. The ET played a key role in the integrity of the model, particularly in perceptual, attentional, and affective responses. The intended model serves to stimulate new research into adaptation mechanisms.Impairment of arm movements poststroke often results in the use of compensatory trunk movements to complete motor tasks. These compensatory movements have been mostly observed in tightly controlled conditions, with very few studies examining them in more naturalistic settings. In this study, the authors quantified the presence of compensatory movements during a set of continuous reaching and manipulation tasks performed with both the paretic and nonparetic arm (in 9 chronic stroke survivors) or the dominant arm (in 20 neurologically unimpaired control participants). Kinematic data were collected using motion capture to assess trunk and elbow movement. The authors found that trunk displacement and rotation were significantly higher when using the paretic versus nonparetic arm (P = .03). In contrast, elbow angular displacement was significantly lower in the paretic versus nonparetic arm (P = .01). The reaching tasks required significantly higher trunk compensation and elbow movement than the manipulation tasks.
