    The axial volume-rendered images demonstrated considerable bony bridging with the **** graft, but there was no significant difference in the bone volume and bone mineral density between the **** graft and bone graft at 4 weeks. The peripheral new bone density was significantly higher than the central new bone density and the bottom side score was significantly higher than the top side score at early stage in the regenerated bone within the bone defects.

In the present review we will discuss the application of induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPSCs) for cell-therapy replacement and disease modelling. The aim of iPSCs is to restore the functionality of the damaged tissue by replacing the impaired cells with competitive ones. To achieve this objective, iPSCs can be properly differentiated into virtually any cell fate and can be strongly translated into human health via in vitro and in vivo disease modeling for the development of new therapies, the discovery of biomarkers for several disorders, the elaboration and testing of new drugs as novel treatments, and as a tool for personalized medicine.
    The utility of endoscopic transplantation of epithelial cell sheets to ulcer sites after endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) has been shown to prevent scar stenosis after ESD of early esophageal cancer. Previously, our group reported use of an endoscopic transplantation device fabricated with a 3-dimensional printer. Cell sheets are transplanted to the esophageal wound site with the following procedure first, a cell sheet harvested from temperature-responsive culture dishes is placed on the device's deflated balloon surface and transported to the wound site with endoscopic forceps; second, by applying pressure from inflating the balloon locally at the wound site, the cell sheet is successfully transferred and adhered to the wound tissue; third, the balloon is deflated, and the device is removed. By repeating the procedure, several cell sheets can be safely transplanted to a wider ESD area. Nonetheless, possible damage to cell sheets using this procedure has not yet been assessed.

In vitro, newly-seeded chondrocytes were infiltrated and engrafted into decellularized constructs in the proliferation medium, and newly formed fibers were observed around the surface where newly-seeded cells were attached. Recellularized constructs could mature similarly as those without decellularization in vivo. The decellularized 3D-cultured matrix from regenerative cartilage is expected to be used as a scaffold material in the future.

  • Coastal salinity typically alters the soil microbial communities, which subsequently affect the biogeochemical cycle of nutrients in the soil. The seasonal variation of the soil fungal communities in the coastal area, closely associated with plant population, is poorly understood. This study provides an insight into the fungal community's variations from autumn to winter and spring to summer at a well-populated area of salt-tolerant Tamarix chinensis and beach. The richness and diversity of fungal community were higher in the spring season and lower in the winter season, as showed by high throughput sequencing of the 18S rRNA gene. Ascomycota was the predominant phylum reported in all samples across the region, and higher difference was reported at order level across the seasonal variations. The redundancy analysis suggested that the abundance and diversity of fungal communities in different seasons are mainly correlated to total organic carbon and total nitrogen. Additionally, the saprotrophic and pathotrophic fungi decreased while symbiotic fungi increased in the autumn season. This study provides a pattern of seasonal variation in fungal community composition that further broadens our limited understanding of how the density of the salt-tolerant T. chinensis population of the coastal saline soil could respond to their seasonal variations.
    Preoperative anxiety is a common phenomenon in plastic surgery that has been associated with numerous negative patient outcomes. Little is known about the preferences of plastic surgeons regarding management of patient preoperative anxiety OBJECTIVE To determine the preferences of plastic surgeons regarding the assessment and reduction of adult preoperative patient anxiety in their primary practice setting.

    The membership of the American Council of Academic Plastic Surgeons (ACAPS) was surveyed using an anonymous, online questionnaire from April to June of 2020.

    A total of 100 participants from a membership of 532 responded (19%). The majority of respondents (63%) did not formally assess patient anxiety but supported the use of standardized scales to measure anxiety (57%). Most plastic surgeons preferred patient education (81%), family member presence (69%), and visit from the anesthesiologist (54%) to reduce patient anxiety.     The demand for abdominoplasty procedures has increased in surgical centres as a result of patient preference and economic concerns. The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) published the Facility Accreditation Guideline on 22 October 2018. It is a list of recommendations that aim to reduce the incidence of complications and increase safety standards.

    The objective of this work was to detect the effects of the ISAPS guidelines on the morbidity associated with abdominoplasty procedures in day care surgical centres.

    In all cases, we achieved a significant reduction in skin and adipose tissue with improvement in body shape. The incidence of major and minor post-operative complications was lower than that reported in other literature.

    This report shows that abdominoplasty is a safe procedure with low complication rates, which are even lower when the ISAPS Facility Accreditation Guideline is followed together with national, regional, state and other legal requirements.

Nature uses flavins as electron relay molecules for important biological oxidation and oxygenation reactions. Therefore, the current work utilizes three flavin analogues riboflavin (RF), flavin mononucleotide (FMN) and flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD), which differ in size and charge but have similar redox potentials, to relay electron from nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) to ferritin mineral core. Of these, the smallest/neutral analogue, RF, released more iron (~ three fold) in comparison to the larger and negatively charged FMN and FAD. Although iron mobilization got marred during the initial stages under aerobic conditions, but increased with a greater slope at the later stages of the reaction kinetics, which gets inhibited by superoxide dismutase, consistent with the generation of O2∙- in situ. The initial step, i.e., interaction of flavins with NADH played critical role in the iron release process.

  • JAK (janus kinase) inhibitors are becoming increasingly prescribed for various conditions from dermatologic diseases to graft versus host disease in bone marrow transplant recipients. This class of drugs has been found to be truly life-changing for many, though they are not without potential adverse effects. While JAK inhibitors have not been shown to significantly increase the risk of non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) in large scale clinical trials, NMSC is one of the most concerning possible adverse events, and there have been several reported cases of aggressive squamous cell carcinomas, especially in our already immunosuppressed patient populations. In these patients, it is incredibly important that patients are on the lowest possible dosage of the JAK inhibitor. In addition, these patients must be routinely screened by a dermatologist with a comprehensive skin exam to ensure early detection if skin cancer was to develop.     Asian cultivated rice (Oryza sativa L.) comprises two subspecies, O. sativa subsp. indica and subsp. japonica, and the hybrids between them display strong heterosis. S5 is a major-effect locus controlling the HS of female gametes in rice, consisting of three closely-linked genes ORF3, ORF4 and ORF5 that act as a killer-protector system. Suppression of the EBV genome inhibited the expression of the LMP1/PGC1β/HKDC1/OGG1 signaling pathway, forming a positive feed forward loop for the generation of ROS, hence inhibiting the EBV genome and subsequent EBV-associated tumor development. We concluded that LMP1 triggers EBV-associated tumorigenesis through activation of the PGC1β pathway.     JAK (janus kinase) inhibitors are becoming increasingly prescribed for various conditions from dermatologic diseases to graft versus host disease in bone marrow transplant recipients. This class of drugs has been found to be truly life-changing for many, though they are not without potential adverse effects.     The purpose of this study was to evaluate the cost of reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) for patients with a proximal humerus fracture, using time-driven activity based costing (TDABC), and to compare treatment costs with reimbursement under the Healthcare Resource Groups (HRGs).

    TDABC analysis based on the principles outlined by Kaplan and a clinical pathway that has previously been validated for this institution was used. Staffing cost, consumables, implants, and overheads were updated to reflect 2019/2020 costs. This was compared with the HRG reimbursements.

    The mean cost of a RSA is £7,007.46 (£6,130.67 to £8,824.67). Implants and staffing costs were the primary cost drivers, with implants (£2,824.80) making up 40% of the costs. Staffing costs made up £1,367.78 (19%) of overall costs. The total tariff, accounting for market force factors and high comorbidities, reimburses £4,629. If maximum cost and minimum reimbursement is applied the losses to the trust are £4,828.67.

    RSA may be an effective and appropriate surgical option in the treatment of proximal humerus fractures; however, a cost analysis at our centre has demonstrated the financial burden of this surgery.     Perthes' disease is a condition leading to necrosis of the femoral head. It is most common in children aged four to nine years, affecting around one per 1,200 children in the UK. Management typically includes non-surgical treatment options, such as physiotherapy with/without surgical intervention.     This systematic review aims to evaluate the effectiveness of non-surgical interventions for the treatment of Perthes' disease. Comparative studies (experimental or observational) of any non-surgical intervention compared directly with any alternative intervention (surgical, non-surgical or no intervention) were identified from Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, MEDLINE, EMBASE, the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), EMcare, Allied and Complementary Medicine Database (AMED), and the Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro). Data were extracted on interventions compaed with surgical interventions or no intervention.

  • We aimed to assess the effects of bradykinin (BK) on the proliferation, apoptosis, and cycle of glomerular mesangial cells via the transforming growth factor-β 1 (TGF-β1)/Smad signaling pathway. Rat glomerular mesangial cells, HBZY-1, were divided into normal group (untreated), model group (5 ng/L TGF-β1), BK group (5 ng/L TGF-β1 + 1 ng/L BK), and inhibitor group [5 ng/L TGF-β1 + 1 ng/L LY2109761 (TGF-β1-specific inhibitor)]. The cell proliferation, cycle, apoptosis, expression of type I collagen (Col-1), and protein expressions of Col-1, TGF-β1, and phosphorylated Smad2 (p-Smad2) were detected by EdU labeling, flow cytometry, acridine orange/ethidium bromide (AO/EB) dual staining, immunofluorescence assay, and Western blotting, respectively. Compared with the normal group, the cell proliferation rate (P = 0.02) and protein expression levels of Col-1 (P = 0.02), TGF-β1 (P = 0.01), p-Smad2 (P = 0.02), and p-Smad7 (P = 0.00) in the model group significantly increased, and apoptosis rate (P = 0.01) significantly decreased.     In 2017, eculizumab has been approved for treatment-refractory generalised myasthenia gravis (TRgMG). The German Myasthenia Foundation has published a consensus statement on the use of eculizumab, with a recent update. However, a treatment-refractory state is still ill-defined and the term warrants further clarification. We aimed at developing a sum score to operationalise the definition of a TRgMG status, which is easy- to-handle in clinical decision making.

    We established a structured consensus process according to the Delphi consensus methodology, with 12 members of the medical advisory board of the German Myasthenia Foundation. Accordingly, 4 consensus rounds were accomplished. Additionally, a literature survey covering the years 2004-2020 was done and relevant information offered to the consensus group. Consensus criteria were predefined. In the consensus process the relative importance of scoring items were to be consented, with a sum score of 20 and above indicating a TRgMG status.

    The sum score considers the categories disease severity, inefficiency of antecedent therapies, cessation of therapies due to side effects, and long term stay on the intensive care unit. Categories were specified by a total of 13 scoring items. Eventually, the Delphi process developed an unanimous scoring consensus.

    We suggest a sum score to define treatment refractory state in generalised myasthenia gravis. Beyond clarifying the indication of eculizumab, this easy-to-handle score facilitates clinical decision making and offers new inclusion criteria for clinical studies that explore new therapeutic perspectives in myasthenia gravis treatment.

This study tested the hypothesis that hypobaria-induced oxidative stress and associated changes in homocysteine levels play a role in traumatic brain injury (TBI) pathological progression caused by hypobaria.

    Male Sprague Dawley rats were exposed to a 6 h hypobaria 24 h after mild TBI by the controlled cortical impact. Plasma and brain tissues were assessed for homocysteine levels, oxidative stress markers or glutathione metabolism, and behavioral deficits post-injury in the absence and presence of hypobaria exposure.

Rat glomerular mesangial cells, HBZY-1, were divided into normal group (untreated), model group (5 ng/L TGF-β1), BK group (5 ng/L TGF-β1 + 1 ng/L BK), and inhibitor group [5 ng/L TGF-β1 + 1 ng/L LY2109761 (TGF-β1-specific inhibitor)]. The cell proliferation, cycle, apoptosis, expression of type I collagen (Col-1), and protein expressions of Col-1, TGF-β1, and phosphorylated Smad2 (p-Smad2) were detected by EdU labeling, flow cytometry, acridine orange/ethidium bromide (AO/EB) dual staining, immunofluorescence assay, and Western blotting, respectively. Compared with the normal group, the cell proliferation rate (P = 0.02) and protein expression levels of Col-1 (P = 0.02), TGF-β1 (P = 0.01), p-Smad2 (P = 0.02), and p-Smad7 (P = 0.00) in the model group significantly increased, and apoptosis rate (P = 0.01) significantly decreased. Only a handful of studies have attempted to assess healthcare providers' attitude towards safe abortions in Pakistan. Therefore, this study aimed to develop and validate a psychometric scale to assess attitude towards safe abortions in Pakistan. The study collected data from 106 workers of an NGO that provides SA/PAC through an online and anonymous survey using the organisation's network. The study used factor analytic techniques and structural equation modelling to validate the factor structure and a final hierarchical model. A final scale of seven items relating to attitude towards elective abortions and moral attitude towards safe abortions was validated. The scales were highly reliable with both factors having reliability indicators greater than 0.7. The scale can be easily implemented to assess providers' attitude towards safe abortions. This will allow programmers to screen healthcare providers with a negative attitude, and evaluate the efficacy of their Value Clarification and Attitude Transformation (VCAT) programmes that are aimed at transforming providers' attitude towards safe abortions.This study was conducted to assess the frequency of pre-operative malnourishment in patients being treated for oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma. A retrospective chart review was carried out at the Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, on 62 patients. Patients were screened pre-operatively through a standard nutritional assessment tool at the time of admission to assess for malnutrition. Mean age of presentation was 48.34±13.11 years, mean height was 165 ± 8.62cm, weight 66.09±14.98 kg and BMI of 24.09±4.84. Males were 82.3% and 17.7% were females. At the time of admission, a significant number or patients, 12 (19.4%) were prone to malnourishment, while 3 (4.8%) patients were malnourished Assessment was done by using a standardised nutritional assessment tool.A workshop on MCQ development using cognitive model framework was conducted for health educators from Aga Khan University (AKU) and other academic institutions. The aim was to develop the skill of preparing MCQs for assessing higher cognitive levels. A pre-post study was conducted, participant satisfaction was evaluated and pre-post test scores were used to assess learning capability of the workshop participants. Out of the 19 who attended the workshop, 16 participated in the pre- and post-tests and were included in the study through convenience sampling. The total duration of the study was six months. There was a significant difference in the overall pre-post test scores of the participants with a mean difference of -4.176 ± 4.83 (p-value less then 0.05). A significant difference was observed in the mean pre-post test scores of junior faculty (-6.350± 4.5829; p-value = 0.02). The mean pre-test scores of junior faculty were significantly lower 4.950±2.83 as compared to the senior faculty 10.417±1.56 (p-value= 0.001). Active participation in faculty development workshops may lead to enhancing skills for preparing one-best MCQs based on international guidelines.

    A systematic review method was utilized to evaluate relevant diagnostic studies. Electronic database was searched from July to October 2017. Hand search was also conducted when applicable. Study quality was assessed according to standardised criteria. Heterogeneity was assessed using subjective and statistical measures. Meta-analysis was judged appropriate and conducted using Open met-analyst software utilizing the random effect model.

    Based on the assessment of risk of bias of the eligible studies, five studies were included in the final review. Random effects models showed that CT-VHSG has high diagnostic performance (pooled sensitivity 0.992 and specificity 0.98, with negative and positive likelihood ratios of 14.671 and 0.04 respectively). CT-VHSG had comparatively lesser radiation dose than conventional HSG (pooled mean effective dose 4.14 mSV vs 6 mSV respectively).

    CT-VHSG is a reliable procedure with high diagnostic performance in evaluation of the female reproductive tract. CT-VHSG can be regarded as generally safe imaging diagnostic technique in the infertility workup. In contrary to common belief, CT-VHSG has comparable or lower radiation dose than conventional HSG.

    The cross-sectional study was conducted in October 2018 at The Children's Hospital and the Institute of Child Health, Lahore, Pakistan, and comprised postgraduate residents and nurses. Data was collected using a 31-item self-administered inventory. Data analysis was done using SPSS 21.

    Of the 360 subject, 152(42.2%) were postgraduate residents and 208(57.8%) were nurses. Overall score of knowledge 202(56%) was low compared to attitude 260(72%) and practice 283(78.6%). The combined score of all three domains was 245(68%), indicating moderate awareness. Postgraduate residents had significantly better knowledge 98(64%) compared to nurses 104 (50%) (p=0.01), while nurses had better attitude score 159(76.4%) compared to the residents 103(68%) (p<0.05). The practice subscale score was not significantly different between the groups (p>0.05).

    In this retrospective observational study, charts and multimodal imaging of forty-five patients diagnosed with PIC during the active inflammatory phase were reviewed. MMI examinations, including fundus photography, shortwave fundus autofluorescence(SW-FAF), fluorescein angiography(FFA), indocyanine green angiography(ICGA), and spectral domain optical coherence tomography(SD-OCT_), were conducted to diagnose PIC, and MMI parameters at baseline were assessed as potential biomarkers indicating the recurrence of inflammation. Statistical analysis was performed to determine the clinical and imaging factors associated with recurrence of PIC.

    Among the 45 recruited patients, 18 (40 %) had at least one episode of recurrence during a mean follow-up period of 23.66 ± 12.65 months (range, 12-50 months). Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) at the final visit during the follow-up was significantly different between the recurrence and nonrecurrence groups. Patchy hyperautofluorescence at baseline appeared in 77.78 % of the patients with recurrence, and the incidence of patchy hyperautofluorescence was significantly different between the patients with recurrence and those without recurrence (P<0.001).

Symptoms of PCAS include follicular papules, suppurative nodules, cysts, sinuses, fistulas, and these usually evolve into patchy alopecia or cicatricial alopecia, which seriously affects the beauty and quality of life of patients. In this paper, we report 3 cases of PCAS each of whom received 5% 5-aminolevulinic acid-based photodynamic therapy (ALA-PDT) combined with isotretinoin. Fire needle intervention was used as a pretreatment for ALA-PDT. All pretreatments and ALA-PDT were well tolerated. All patients showed complete clearance of skin lesions and 1 patient attained significant improvement of symptoms after 1 month of treatment. No patients had recurrence with minimum one year follow up. This suggests that topical ALA-PDT pre-treated by fire needle combined with oral isotretinoin could be an eff ;ective, non-invasive, safe method with low recurrence for PCAS.

In this retrospective observational study, charts and multimodal imaging of forty-five patients diagnosed with PIC during the active inflammatory phase were reviewed. MMI examinations, including fundus photography, shortwave fundus autofluorescence(SW-FAF), fluorescein angiography(FFA), indocyanine green angiography(ICGA), and spectral domain optical coherence tomography(SD-OCT_), were conducted to diagnose PIC, and MMI parameters at baseline were assessed as potential biomarkers indicating the recurrence of inflammation. Symptoms of PCAS include follicular papules, suppurative nodules, cysts, sinuses, fistulas, and these usually evolve into patchy alopecia or cicatricial alopecia, which seriously affects the beauty and quality of life of patients. In this paper, we report 3 cases of PCAS each of whom received 5% 5-aminolevulinic acid-based photodynamic therapy (ALA-PDT) combined with isotretinoin. Fire needle intervention was used as a pretreatment for ALA-PDT. All pretreatments and ALA-PDT were well tolerated. All patients showed complete clearance of skin lesions and 1 patient attained significant improvement of symptoms after 1 month of treatment. No patients had recurrence with minimum one year follow up. This suggests that topical ALA-PDT pre-treated by fire needle combined with oral isotretinoin could be an eff ;ective, non-invasive, safe method with low recurrence for PCAS.

The importance of intestinal dysbacteriosis in regulating host immunity has been implicated in TB, and accumulating evidence suggests that microRNAs (miRNAs) might act as a key mediator in maintaining intestinal homeostasis through signaling networks. However, the involvement of miRNA in gut microbiota, TB and the host immune system remains unknown. Here we showed that intestinal dysbacteriosis increases the susceptibility to TB and remotely increased the expression of miR-21 in lung. Systemic antagonism of miR-21 enhanced IFN-γ production and further conferred immune protection against TB. Molecular experiments further indicated that miR-21a-3p could specifically target IFN-γ mRNA. These findings revealed regulatory pathways implicating intestinal dysbacteriosis induced-susceptibility to TB intestinal dysbiosis→lung miRNA→targeting IFN-γ→impaired anti-TB immunity.     Three-week-old rats were randomly divided into a normal diet (ND) group and a high-fat diet (HFD) group. After 10 weeks, the HFD rats were grouped into HFD + EA group and HFD control group. Rats in the EA group were electro-acupunctured for 4 weeks on Tianshu (ST25) acupoint under gas anesthesia with isoflurane, while the rats in HFD group were under gas anesthesia only. Body weight and cumulative food intake were monitored, and H&E staining was performed to assess adipocyte area. The effect of EA on WAT was assessed by qPCR, immunoblotting, immunoprecipitation and Co-immunoprecipitation. These studies suggest an important role for the epilipidome in stress responses and immune regulation in the skin. In this minireview we provide a short survey of the recent developments on causes and consequences of epilipidomic changes in the skin or in cell types that reside in the skin.

The mechanisms of thyroid regeneration and the role of thyroid stem cells and thyroid progenitor cells in this process are not well understood. We have now used a new mouse thyroid injury model to gain insight into this phenomenon.

  • Intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) is a known risk of oral anticoagulation; delineating ICH attributes may provide nuanced guidance regarding atrial fibrillation management. We evaluated ICH characteristics and outcomes from Effective Anticoagulation with Factor Xa Next Generation in Atrial Fibrillation-Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction 48 (ENGAGE AF-TIMI 48), a randomized trial that compared two edoxaban regimens (higher-dose edoxaban regimen 60/30 mg (HDER), lower-dose edoxaban regimen 30/15 mg (LDER)) with warfarin in patients with atrial fibrillation. Patients who suffered ICH vs those who did not were compared and independent predictors of ICH were calculated. We also assessed ICH subtype and etiology. Of 21,105 randomized patients, 322 (1.53%) had ≥ 1 ICH for a total of 368 events. Intraparenchymal hemorrhage (HDER HR 0.52 [95% CI 0.35-0.77], LDER HR 0.22 [0.13-0.38]) and subdural hematoma (HDER HR 0.29 [0.15-0.55], LDER HR 0.26 [0.13-0.50]) were lower with both HDER and LDER vs warfarin.     Cancer survivors often experience adverse physical and psychosocial effects. Fear of recurrence is a difficulty very commonly reported in post-cancer life. The primary objective of this study was to describe post-cancer supportive care needs in patients treated for breast cancer.

    In this monocentric observational study, cancer survivors aged≥18years, diagnosed with breast cancer and treated in 2017 (cohort A) and in 2015 (cohort B) were administered a post-cancer needs questionnaire, and the Fear of Cancer Recurrence Inventory (severity subscale).

    The study included 139 patients. Pain (51.9%), fatigue (51.9%), weight gain during treatment (35.1%), psychological difficulties (20.5%), and difficulties in marriage and sexual life (13.1%) were the complaints in the post-cancer period. There were no differences between the two cohorts. The severity subscale of the Fear of Cancer Recurrence Inventory showed 35.8% patients with a score>13. The fear of recurrence was a source of social difficulties, psychological disorders, and difficulties in marriage and sexual life.

    Not only FCR, but also issues such as fatigue, pain, psychological difficulties, and difficulties in marriage and sexual life all call for a psycho-oncological follow-up.     To identify the valuable predictors of grade≥2 radiation pneumonitis (RP) in patient treated with radiotherapy after pneumonectomy for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC); and to construct a nomogram predicting the incidence of grade≥2 RP in such patients.

    We reviewed 82 patients with NSCLC received radiotherapy after pneumonectomy from 2008 to 2018. The endpoint was grade≥2 RP. Univariate and multivariate regression analysis were conducted to evaluate significant factors of grade≥2 RP. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to establish optimal cutoff values and the nomogram was built to make the predictive model visualized. Descriptive analysis was performed on 5 patients with grade 3 RP.

    A total of 22(26.8%) patients developed grade 2 RP and 5(6.1%) patients were grade 3 RP. V5, V10, V20, V30, MLD, PTV, and PTV/TLV were associated with the occurrence of grade≥2 RP in univariate analysis, while none of the clinical factors was significant; V5(OR,1.213;95%CI,1.099-1.339; P<0.001) and ively.     Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials evaluating the effects of probiotics and synbiotics on diarrhea in undernourished children were searched from 1990 to May 2020. Recommendations of the Cochrane Handbook and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) statement were followed.

    The systematic review identified 15 trials with 6986 patients. The meta-analysis revealed that treatment with probiotic or synbiotic reduced significantly both the duration of diarrhea [Weighted mean difference (WMD)=-1.05 day, 95% CI (-1.98,-0.11)] and the hospital stay duration [Standard mean difference (SMD)=-2.87 days, 95% CI (-5.33,-0.42)], especially in specific patient subsets. In both groups, similar rates of vomiting and nutritional recovery were observed. No probiotics or synbiotics-related adverse effects were reported. Subgroup analyses showed that probiotic and synbiotic treatment were more effective in reducing risk of diarrhea in outpatients [Risk ratio (RR)=0.86, 95%CI (0.75-0.98)].

To identify the valuable predictors of grade≥2 radiation pneumonitis (RP) in patient treated with radiotherapy after pneumonectomy for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC); and to construct a nomogram predicting the incidence of grade≥2 RP in such patients. We reviewed 82 patients with NSCLC received radiotherapy after pneumonectomy from 2008 to 2018. The endpoint was grade≥2 RP. Univariate and multivariate regression analysis were conducted to evaluate significant factors of grade≥2 RP. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to establish optimal cutoff values and the nomogram was built to make the predictive model visualized. Recommendations of the Cochrane Handbook and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) statement were followed. The systematic review identified 15 trials with 6986 patients. The meta-analysis revealed that treatment with probiotic or synbiotic reduced significantly both the duration of diarrhea [Weighted mean difference (WMD)=-1.05 day, 95% CI (-1.98,-0.11)] and the hospital stay duration [Standard mean difference (SMD)=-2.87 days, 95% CI (-5.33,-0.42)], especially in specific patient subsets. In both groups, similar rates of vomiting and nutritional recovery were observed. No probiotics or synbiotics-related adverse effects were reported. Subgroup analyses showed that probiotic and synbiotic treatment were more effective in reducing risk of diarrhea in outpatients [Risk ratio (RR)=0.86, 95%CI (0.75-0.98)].
