Storytelling as an innovative method of video-based education for parents of children with atopic dermatitis Abstract.Background Atopic Dermatitis (AD) is the most chronic skin disease in children and affects up to 20 % of children in developed countries. Chronic inflammation of the skin, itching, redness, and non-dermatologic symptoms like sleep disturbance are frequent and have a negative impact on the child's quality of life and their family. Education is one of the most important aspects of managing AD. Aim Production and evaluation of educational videos with the method storytelling for parents of children aged 0 to 5 years with atopic dermatitis. Methods We produced the videos with the method of storytelling. The aim of storytelling is to help to recall important information more easily. A multi-professional team and parents of affected children tested the videos to ensure the understandability, the helpfulness and importance of the educational videos. Results We created six different videos in all. The content of the educational videos includes information on the causes of AD, symptoms, skin care, treatment instruction and living with AD. We implemented the method of storytelling by two families with affected children who reported about their experience with the disease and the treatment. Three different specialists gave expert information. The evaluation showed that the information in the videos is simple, understandable and relevant. Conclusions Evidence-based videos are an innovative, creative and modern method to support education. Storytelling is a user-friendly method to give simple and understandable information.We compared the clinical, radiological and microbial profile in children suffering from community-acquired pneumonia in rural populations of north India. A total of 125 such children were divided into two age groups of 2-12 months (Group A) and 13-60 months (Group B). After taking a history and clinical examination, routine investigations including full blood count, blood, urine, and nasopharyngeal swab culture and radiology were performed. Multiplex polymerase chain reaction for Streptococcus pneumoniae, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Chlamydia pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae was carried out. Failure to eat or drink was more common (40.9%) in Group A, than Group B (18.7%). Lung consolidation was more common in Group B. Blood and urine culture were found to be more positive in Group A while combined nasopharyngeal culture and multiplex polymerase chain reaction favoured more bacterial growth in Group B.The majority of patients with Covid-19 have a good outcome. However, complications principally of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and multiple-organ failure can occur rapidly. Leptospirosis, a zoonotic disease, is similar to Covid-19 in that most infections are mild or asymptomatic and only a small number develop ARDS. Cytokine storm is considered to be the main incriminating factor in both. High dose steroids have been used to ameliorate the effects in leptospirosis, and similarly, reports suggest a benefit in Covid-19. SARS CoV-2 and leptospira, one a virus and the other a bacterium, are two species separated by millions of years of evolution, but producing illnesses with similar spectra, with cytokine storm being the common precipitating factor. China's Hengduan Mountain region has been considered one of the most diverse regions in the northern hemisphere. Its stunning topography with many deep valleys and impassable mountain barriers has promoted an astonishing diversification in many groups of organisms including plants, birds, mammals, and amphibians. However, the insect biodiversity in this region is still poorly known. Here, the first checklist of ant species from the Southern Hengduan Mountain region is presented, generated by sampling ant diversity using a wide array of collection methods, including Winkler leaf litter extraction, vegetation beating, and hand collection. 130 species/morphospecies from nine subfamilies and 49 genera were identified. Among them, 17 species from 13 genera represent new records for Yunnan province, and eight species are newly recorded for China. Moreover, we believe 41 novel morphospecies (31% of the total collected taxa) will prove to be new to science. These results highlight the rich ant fauna of this region and strongly support its status as a biodiversity hotspot. The current ant species checklist for the whole of Yunnan Province was updated by recording 550 named species from 99 genera. Taken together, our results suggest that the Yunnan ant fauna still remains under-sampled, and future sampling will likely yield many more species, among them many undescribed ones.This study investigated the inhibitory effect of ginsenoside-Rp1 (G-Rp1) on the ionizing radiation (IR)-induced response in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated macrophages and its effects on the malignancy of tumor cells. Studies have reported that Korean Red Ginseng extracts (KRGEs) are involved in a variety of pharmacological activities we investigated whether implantation with a KRGE-loaded N-Ti miniimplant affects osteogenesis and osseointegration.
KRGE-loaded nanotubes were constructed by fabrication on pure Ti via anodization, and MC3T3-E1 cells were cultured on the N-Ti. N-Ti implants were subsequently placed on a rat's edentulous mandibular site. New bone formation and bone mineral density were measured to analyze osteogenesis and osseointegration.
KRGE-loaded N-Ti significantly increased the proliferation and differentiation of MC3T3-E1 cells compared with cells on pure Ti without any KRGE loading. After 1-4 weeks, the periimplant tissue in the edentulous mandibular of the healed rat showed a remarkable increase in new bone formation and bone mineral density. In addition, high levels of the bone morphogenesis protein-2and bone morphogenesis protein-7, besides collagen, were expressed in the periimplant tissues.
Our findings suggest that KRGE-induced osteogenesis and osseointegration around the miniimplant may facilitate the clinical application of dental implants.

Simultaneous bioaugmentation and biostimulation can efficiently reduce the crude oil content in the surface of seawater using halotolerant strains.Mycoplasma is the smallest self-replicating bacteria, figuring as common contaminant of eukaryotic cell cultures. Production inputs and operator's manipulation seem to be the main sources of such contamination. Many analytical approaches have been applied for mycoplasma detection in cell cultures and also in biological products. However, unless they were validated, only indicator cell culture and bacteriological culture are considered as compendial methods for quality control of biological products. Nano-flow cytometry has been pointed out as an alternative technique for addressing prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell viability being a substantial tool for reference material production. In this study, a viability-flow-cytometry assay was standardized for M. gallisepticum and then applied to other cell-culture-contaminant mycoplasmas. For this, M. galliseticum's growth rate was observed and different treatments were evaluated to establish low viability cultures (cell death-induced control). Distinct viability markers and their ideal concentrations (titration) were appraised. Ethanol treatment showed to be the best death-inducing control. CFDA and TOPRO markers revealed to be the best choice for detecting live and dead mycoplasma frequencies, respectively. The standardized methodology was applied to Mycoplasma arginini, M. hyorhinis, M. orale, Spiroplasma citri and Acholeplasma laidlawii. Significant statistical difference was observed in the percentage of viable cells in comparison to ethanol treatment for A. laidlawii in CFDA and in both markers for M. gallisepticum, M. hyorhinis and S. citri. In our work, galeterone as a chemical compound under clinical trials for the treatment of prostate cancer, was identified to be effective in targeting breast cancer cells via suppressing MNK-eIF4E and β-catenin. In despite of varying IC50, galeterone at nanomolar concentrations significantly decreased viability, proliferation and migration of a panel of breast cancer cell lines regardless of clinical subtypes and genetic mutations, and to a higher extent than in normal breast cells. Galeterone significantly enhanced the effects of chemotherapeutic drugs in reducing proliferation and viability but not migration. The in vivo efficacy of galeterone as single drug alone and its ability in augmenting chemotherapy's efficacy were also shown in breast cancer xenograft mouse model. Mechanism analysis demonstrated that galeterone decreased MNK1/2 level and phosphorylation of eIF4E. In addition, galeterone decreased β-catenin level via promoting GSK-3β-mediated β-catenin degradation, and furthermore that Akt but not CK1 was involved in β-catenin degradation by galeterone. Delays in diagnosis and treatment can lead to missed opportunities for both curative and life prolonging therapies. This study aimed to evaluate duration of time to diagnosis and first treatment, as well as investigate reasons for delays in care.
This retrospective study included all lung cancer cases diagnosed by Stony Brook's Lung Cancer Evaluation Center (LCEC) between 2013 and 2019. Demographic, radiologic, pathologic and clinical variables were investigated, including cancer staging, histology, and medical and family histories. Evaluations included the determination of median time from initial encounter to diagnosis, median time from diagnosis to start of treatment and an exploration of the factors that influence possible causes for delays in care.
The LCEC's comprehensive multidisciplinary lung nodule program yielded a median length of time from CT to PET of 11days, PET to procedure of 13days, procedure to treatment consult of 9days, and from consult to treatment of 9days. LCEC patients experienced an overall median of 44days from initial presentation to first treatment compared to the national ideal of 62days, thereby representing a 29% reduction in time from first CT to onset of treatment.

To compare the diagnostic performance of three CT criteria and two signs in evaluating hepatic arterial invasion by hilar cholangiocarcinoma.
In this study, we retrospectively reviewed the CT images of 85 patients with hilar cholangiocarcinoma. Modified Loyer's, Lu's, and Li's standards were used to evaluate hepatic arterial invasion by hilar cholangiocarcinoma with the reference of intraoperative findings and/or the postoperative pathological diagnosis. Arterial tortuosity and contact length were also evaluated.
Loyer's, Lu's, and Li's standards showed sensitivities of 91.7%, 90.3%, and 72.2%, specificities of 94.0%, 94.5%, and 95.6%, and accuracies of 93.3%, 93.3%, and 89.0%, respectively, in evaluating hepatic arterial invasion by hilar cholangiocarcinoma. Loyer's and Lu's standards and contact length performed better than Li's standard (P < 0.001). Arterial tortuosity performed worse than other criteria (P < 0.001). The CT criteria performed best in evaluating proper hepatic arterial invasion compared with the left and right hepatic artery.

Production inputs and operator's manipulation seem to be the main sources of such contamination. Many analytical approaches have been applied for mycoplasma detection in cell cultures and also in biological products. However, unless they were validated, only indicator cell culture and bacteriological culture are considered as compendial methods for quality control of biological products. Nano-flow cytometry has been pointed out as an alternative technique for addressing prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell viability being a substantial tool for reference material production. In this study, a viability-flow-cytometry assay was standardized for M. gallisepticum and then applied to other cell-culture-contaminant mycoplasmas. For this, M. galliseticum's growth rate was observed and different treatments were evaluated to establish low viability cultures (cell death-induced control). Distinct viability markers and their ideal concentrations (titration) were appraised. Ethanol treatment showed to be the best death-inducing control. CFDA and TOPRO markers revealed to be the best choice for detecting live and dead mycoplasma frequencies, respectively. The standardized methodology was applied to Mycoplasma arginini, M. hyorhinis, M. orale, Spiroplasma citri and Acholeplasma laidlawii. Significant statistical difference was observed in the percentage of viable cells in comparison to ethanol treatment for A. laidlawii in CFDA and in both markers for M. gallisepticum, M. hyorhinis and S. citri. In summary, we standardized a flow cytometry assay for assessing M. gallisepticum - and potentially other species - viability and ultimately applied for reference material production improving the quality control of biological products.Aberrant activation of eIF4E signalling pathway is common in breast cancer and holds potential therapeutic options. In our work, galeterone as a chemical compound under clinical trials for the treatment of prostate cancer, was identified to be effective in targeting breast cancer cells via suppressing MNK-eIF4E and β-catenin. In despite of varying IC50, galeterone at nanomolar concentrations significantly decreased viability, proliferation and migration of a panel of breast cancer cell lines regardless of clinical subtypes and genetic mutations, and to a higher extent than in normal breast cells. Galeterone significantly enhanced the effects of chemotherapeutic drugs in reducing proliferation and viability but not migration. The in vivo efficacy of galeterone as single drug alone and its ability in augmenting chemotherapy's efficacy were also shown in breast cancer xenograft mouse model. Mechanism analysis demonstrated that galeterone decreased MNK1/2 level and phosphorylation of eIF4E. In addition, galeterone decreased β-catenin level via promoting GSK-3β-mediated β-catenin degradation, and furthermore that Akt but not CK1 was involved in β-catenin degradation by galeterone. Treatment of patients affected by severe burns is challenging, especially due to the high risk of Pseudomonas infection. In the present work, we have generated a novel model of bioartificial human dermis substitute by tissue engineering to treat infected wounds using fibrin-agarose biomaterials functionalized with nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs) loaded with two anti-Pseudomonas antibiotics sodium colistimethate (SCM) and amikacin (AMK).
Results show that the novel tissue-like substitutes have strong antibacterial effect on Pseudomonas cultures, directly proportional to the NLC concentration. Free DNA quantification, WST-1 and Caspase 7 immunohistochemical assays in the functionalized dermis substitute demonstrated that neither cell viability nor cell proliferation were affected by functionalization in most study groups. Furthermore, immunohistochemistry for PCNA and KI67 and histochemistry for collagen and proteoglycans revealed that cells proliferated and were metabolically active in the functionalized tissue with no differences with controls. When functionalized tissues were biomechanically characterized, we found that NLCs were able to improve some of the major biomechanical properties of these artificial tissues, although this strongly depended on the type and concentration of NLCs.
These results suggest that functionalization of fibrin-agarose human dermal substitutes with antibiotic-loaded NLCs is able to improve the antibacterial and biomechanical properties of these substitutes with no detectable side effects. This opens the door to future clinical use of functionalized tissues.

Malaria still represents a major health threat, in terms of both morbidity and mortality. Complications of malaria present a diversified clinical spectrum, with neurological involvement leading to the most serious related-conditions. The authors recently encountered a case of a 60-year old Italian man presenting with confusion, language disturbances and Parkinson-like syndrome 3weeks after complete remission from severe Plasmodium falciparum cerebral malaria. Chemical and microbiological analysis revealed aseptic meningitis, diffuse encephalitis and abnormal immune-activation. Re-infection and recrudescence of infection were excluded. Further analysis excluded paraneoplastic and autoimmune causes of encephalitis. A diagnosis of Post-Malaria Neurological Syndrome (PMNS) was finally formulated and successfully treated with high dose of steroids.
A systematic research of current literature related to PMNS was performed.
151 cases of PMNS were included, the majority of which occurred after severe P. falcipa major unmet need in this setting. A systematic collection of all the PMNS cases would be desirable, in order to increase awareness of this rare condition and to prospectively investigate the most appropriate management.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a major clinical challenge, and the gut microbiome plays important roles in the occurrence and metastasis of CRC. Lactobacillus and their metabolites are thought to be able to suppress the growth of CRC cells. However, the antimetastatic mechanism of Lactobacillus or their metabolites toward CRC cells is not clear. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess the inhibitory mechanism of cell-free supernatants (CFSs) of L. rhamnosus GG, L. casei M3, and L. plantarum YYC-3 on metastasis of CRC cells.
YYC-3 CFS showed the highest inhibitory effect on CRC cell growth, invasion and migration, and inhibited MMP2, MMP9, and VEGFA gene and protein expression, and protein secretion. Furthermore, it suppressed the activities of MMPs by gelatin zymography. Moreover, the effective compounds in these CFSs were analyzed by Q Exactive Focus liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry.
Our results showed that metabolite secretions of YYC-3 may inhibited cell metastasis by downregulating the VEGF/MMPs signaling pathway. These data suggest that treatment of CRC cells with metabolites from L. plantarum YYC-3 may reduce colon cancer metastasis.

Globally, immunization coverage for childhood vaccines is below the immunization target of achieving at least 90% coverage with the pentavalent vaccine. In Uganda, a recent survey shows 80% of districts had poor immunization program performance. However, there is significant variation in performance within and between districts. We hypothesized that geographic location of a health facility may influence performance of its immunization programs. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine whether geographical location of a health facility within a district is associated with performance of the immunization program in Hoima district, western Uganda.
We conducted a cross sectional study using a mixed methods approach. The main study unit was a health center and we also interviewed health workers in-charge of the facilities and reviewed their health facility records. We reviewed the Uganda Health Management Information System (HMIS) 105 reports of six months to obtain data on immunization program performance.
Providers' approach to HPV vaccination recommendation must consider concerns reported in the media with delivery techniques modified to adjust to maternal fears absorbed from adverse media information. Treatment of patients affected by severe burns is challenging, especially due to the high risk of Pseudomonas infection. In the present work, we have generated a novel model of bioartificial human dermis substitute by tissue engineering to treat infected wounds using fibrin-agarose biomaterials functionalized with nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs) loaded with two anti-Pseudomonas antibiotics sodium colistimethate (SCM) and amikacin (AMK). Results show that the novel tissue-like substitutes have strong antibacterial effect on Pseudomonas cultures, directly proportional to the NLC concentration. Free DNA quantification, WST-1 and Caspase 7 immunohistochemical assays in the functionalized dermis substitute demonstrated that neither cell viability nor cell proliferation were affected by functionalization in most study groups. Furthermore, immunohistochemistry for PCNA and KI67 and histochemistry for collagen and proteoglycans revealed that cells proliferated and were metabolically active in the functionalized tissue with no differences with controls. When functionalized tissues were biomechanically characterized, we found that NLCs were able to improve some of the major biomechanical properties of these artificial tissues, although this strongly depended on the type and concentration of NLCs. These results suggest that functionalization of fibrin-agarose human dermal substitutes with antibiotic-loaded NLCs is able to improve the antibacterial and biomechanical properties of these substitutes with no detectable side effects. Complications of malaria present a diversified clinical spectrum, with neurological involvement leading to the most serious related-conditions. The authors recently encountered a case of a 60-year old Italian man presenting with confusion, language disturbances and Parkinson-like syndrome 3weeks after complete remission from severe Plasmodium falciparum cerebral malaria. Chemical and microbiological analysis revealed aseptic meningitis, diffuse encephalitis and abnormal immune-activation. Re-infection and recrudescence of infection were excluded. Further analysis excluded paraneoplastic and autoimmune causes of encephalitis. A diagnosis of Post-Malaria Neurological Syndrome (PMNS) was finally formulated and successfully treated with high dose of steroids. Lactobacillus and their metabolites are thought to be able to suppress the growth of CRC cells. However, the antimetastatic mechanism of Lactobacillus or their metabolites toward CRC cells is not clear. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess the inhibitory mechanism of cell-free supernatants (CFSs) of L. rhamnosus GG, L. casei M3, and L. plantarum YYC-3 on metastasis of CRC cells. YYC-3 CFS showed the highest inhibitory effect on CRC cell growth, invasion and migration, and inhibited MMP2, MMP9, and VEGFA gene and protein expression, and protein secretion. Drawing on a series of 30 semi-structured interviews with farm animal veterinary professionals across the three sectors, this paper examines the manner in which such tests are both used and anticipated in clinical farm animal veterinary practice aof diagnostic actors with consequences for the flow of diagnostic and disease information. The veterinarians in this study identified areas where new rapid and point-of-care tests would be of particular value to them in their clinical practice particularly in addressing concerns over inappropriate antimicrobial use in animal treatment. Using farm-level surveillance data (2013-2019), for broiler chickens (n = 947 flocks) and turkeys (n = 427), this study aims to (1) characterize flock-level AMU and identify high users, (2) identify appropriate AMU indicators and biomass denominator [population correction unit (PCU) vs. kg weight at pre-slaughter], and (3) make recommendations on the application to veterinarian-producer and national-level reporting. Diverse AMU patterns were identified in broiler chickens (156 patterns) and turkeys (68 patterns); of these, bacitracin, reported by 25% of broiler chicken and 19% of turkey producers, was the most frequently occurring pattern. Depending on the indicator chosen, variations in reported quantity of use, temporal trends and relative ranking or routine monitoring of trends in AMU. One source of discrepancy between the indicators was the antimicrobial. Understanding the choice of parameter input and effects on reporting trends in AMU will inform surveillance reporting best practices to help industry understand the impacts of their AMU reduction strategies and to best communicate the information to veterinarians, their producers, and other stakeholders.The aim of this retrospective study was to test the efficacy of the Bologna Healing Stifle Injury Index (BHSII) in assessing the medium-term outcomes of dogs treated for cranial cruciate ligament rupture. The study population included 53 dogs with unilateral cranial cruciate ligament rupture treated using either Paatsama, Tight-Rope or tibial tuberosity advancement techniques, and 20 orthopedically sound dogs for comparative purposes. The BHSII was utilized for all the treated dogs at the time of surgery, and 1, 3, and 6 months postoperatively, while it was utilized twice in the control group. Although all the techniques achieved a successful outcome at the end of the evaluation, the application of the BHSII permitted differentiating results at each time point and stimulating discussion regarding the rapidity and degree of the healing process for each technique. It also pointed out some incongruities between the owner's and the clinician's assessment of the process.

Aggregation of hyperphosphorylated tau and intercorrelated synaptic dysfunction, two key pathological elements in both TBI and AD, play a pivotal role in mediating neurodegeneration and cognitive deficits, providing a mechanistic link between these two diseases. We suggested that investigating the type of interactions is a critical neuropharmacological issue that should be considered in future studies.Recent focus on the consequences of early life adversity (ELA) in neurobiological research led to a variety of findings suggesting alterations in several physiological systems, such as the cardiovascular system. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we focused on the relationship between early life maltreatment (ELM), one form of ELA, and resting vagal activity indexed by resting-state heart rate variability (HRV). A systematic search of the literature yielded 1'264 hits, of which 32 studies reporting data for group comparisons or correlations were included. By quantitative synthesis of existing studies using random-effect models, we found no evidence for a relationship between ELM exposure and resting vagal activity in principal. Conducting meta-regression analyses, however, we found the relationship between ELM and resting vagal activity to significantly vary as a function of both age and the presence of psychopathology. In light of the current multitude of vastly unclear pathways linking ELM to the onset of disease, we emphasize the need for further research and outline several aspects to consider in future studies.Neuropeptide Y (NPY) is likely the main endogenous anxiolytic neuromodulator involved in alcohol intake. NPY-Y1, a receptor for NPY, is highly expressed in the periaqueductal gray (PAG), a mesencephalic structure involved in integrating nervous activity to the performance of active and passive defensive behaviors related to fear and anxiety. Interestingly, anxiety and fear are some of the prevailing emotional negative states during alcohol abstinence. Moreover, an inverse relationship between NPY activity and alcohol consumption has been frequently reported, mainly in the extended amygdala. Nevertheless, both the roles of NPY and that of the receptor involved in these actions have been scarcely studied. Thus, the aim of this study was to analyze the pharmacological effect of NPY and NPY-Y1 receptor blockade into the dorsal periaqueductal gray (D-PAG) in an alcohol consumption and relapse paradigm in adult male Wistar rats. Ninety-six rats at postnatal day 42 (PND-42) were classified as having low and high anxiety (LA and HA), respectively, through the elevated plus maze test (EPM). Then, those animals were randomly divided into alcohol naïve (AN) and forced alcohol consumption (FAC) groups. A cannula was implanted in D-PAG to microinject vehicle (VEH), NPY, or BIBP-3226 (a selective NPY-Y1 receptor antagonist). A defensive burying behavior test (DBB) was performed to assess the anxiety-like state during withdrawal, followed by a 24-hour free choice voluntary alcohol intake test. Under our experimental conditions, NPY microinjection decreased alcohol consumption in HA rats, whereas NPY-Y1 receptor blockade in D-PAG produced a notably anxiogenic effect and higher alcohol intake and relapse. We suggested that investigating the type of interactions is a critical neuropharmacological issue that should be considered in future studies.Recent focus on the consequences of early life adversity (ELA) in neurobiological research led to a variety of findings suggesting alterations in several physiological systems, such as the cardiovascular system. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we focused on the relationship between early life maltreatment (ELM), one form of ELA, and resting vagal activity indexed by resting-state heart rate variability (HRV). A systematic search of the literature yielded 1'264 hits, of which 32 studies reporting data for group comparisons or correlations were included. By quantitative synthesis of existing studies using random-effect models, we found no evidence for a relationship between ELM exposure and resting vagal activity in principal. Conducting meta-regression analyses, however, we found the relationship between ELM and resting vagal activity to significantly vary as a function of both age and the presence of psychopathology. In light of the current multitude of vastly unclear pathways linking ELM to the onset of disease, we emphasize the need for further research and outline several aspects to consider in future studies.Neuropeptide Y (NPY) is likely the main endogenous anxiolytic neuromodulator involved in alcohol intake. NPY-Y1, a receptor for NPY, is highly expressed in the periaqueductal gray (PAG), a mesencephalic structure involved in integrating nervous activity to the performance of active and passive defensive behaviors related to fear and anxiety. Interestingly, anxiety and fear are some of the prevailing emotional negative states during alcohol abstinence. Moreover, an inverse relationship between NPY activity and alcohol consumption has been frequently reported, mainly in the extended amygdala. Nevertheless, both the roles of NPY and that of the receptor involved in these actions have been scarcely studied. Thus, the aim of this study was to analyze the pharmacological effect of NPY and NPY-Y1 receptor blockade into the dorsal periaqueductal gray (D-PAG) in an alcohol consumption and relapse paradigm in adult male Wistar rats. Ninety-six rats at postnatal day 42 (PND-42) were classified as having low and high anxiety (LA and HA), respectively, through the elevated plus maze test (EPM). Then, those animals were randomly divided into alcohol naïve (AN) and forced alcohol consumption (FAC) groups. A cannula was implanted in D-PAG to microinject vehicle (VEH), NPY, or BIBP-3226 (a selective NPY-Y1 receptor antagonist). A defensive burying behavior test (DBB) was performed to assess the anxiety-like state during withdrawal, followed by a 24-hour free choice voluntary alcohol intake test. Under our experimental conditions, NPY microinjection decreased alcohol consumption in HA rats, whereas NPY-Y1 receptor blockade in D-PAG produced a notably anxiogenic effect and higher alcohol intake and relapse. The correlation between individuals' condylar morphology and their skeletal pattern is of great interest for treatment strategies ranging from orthodontic orthopaedics to orthognathic surgery. The objective of the present study was to investigate this relationship three-dimensionally.
A total of 111 adult patients (mean age = 27.0 ± 10.2 years) who underwent head computed tomography or cone beam computed tomography scans were included. Based on these data, 3D models of the skull and the condyles were calculated. The craniofacial skeleton was evaluated (1) transversally regarding skeletal symmetry (menton deviation), (2) sagittally regarding skeletal classes (Wits appraisal) and vertically regarding the inclination of the jaws (maxillomandibular plane angle). The condylar morphology was assessed (a) linearly by the condylar width, height and depth; (b) angularly by the antero-posterior and medio-lateral condylar inclination; and (c) volumetrically by the ratio of the condylar volume/mandibular volume (C/Maced skeletal patterns and condylar morphology in an adult population. The description of radiographic condyle characteristics in relation to the craniofacial morphology improves orthodontic treatment planning and could be helpful in the diagnosis of temporomandibular joint pathologies.

One of the major challenges to leishmaniasis treatment is the emergence of parasites resistant to antimony. To study differentially expressed genes associated with drug resistance, we performed a comparative transcriptomic analysis between wild-type and potassium antimonyl tartrate (Sb
)-resistant Leishmania infantum lines using high-throughput RNA sequencing.
All the cDNA libraries were constructed from promastigote forms of each line, sequenced and analyzed using STAR for mapping the reads against the reference genome (L. infantum JPCM5) and DESeq2 for differential expression statistical analyses. All the genes were functionally annotated using sequence similarity search.
The analytical pipeline considering an adjusted p-value < 0.05 and fold change > 2.0 identified 933 transcripts differentially expressed (DE) between wild-type and Sb
-resistant L. infantum lines. Out of 933 DE transcripts, 504 presented functional annotation and 429 were assigned as hypothetical proteins. A total of 837 tranas molecular targets for chemotherapy of leishmaniasis.
The transcriptomic profile of L. infantum showed a robust set of genes from different metabolic pathways associated with the antimony resistance phenotype in this parasite. Our results address the complex and multifactorial antimony resistance mechanisms in Leishmania, identifying several candidate genes that may be further evaluated as molecular targets for chemotherapy of leishmaniasis.
In contrast to typical measures employed to assess outcomes in healthcare such as mortality or recovery rates, it is difficult to define which specific outcomes of care are the most important in caring for dying individuals. Despite a variety of tools employed to assess different dimensions of palliative care, there is no consensus on a set of core outcomes to be measured in the last days of life. In order to optimise decision making in clinical practice and comparability of interventional studies, we aim to identify and propose a set of core outcomes for the care of the dying person.
Following the COMET initiative approach, the proposed study will proceed through four stages to develop a set of core outcomes In stage 1, a systematic review of the literature will identify outcomes measured in existing peer reviewed literature, as well as outcomes derived through qualitative studies. Grey literature, will also be included. Stage 2 will allow for the identification and determination of patient and proxy defnally agreed clinically relevant endpoints and enabling accurate comparison between studies in systematic reviews and/or in meta-analyses.
Core Outcome Sets aim at promoting uniform assessment of care outcomes in clinical practice as well as research. If consistently employed, a robust set of core outcomes for the end of life, and specifically for the dying phase, defined by relevant stakeholders, can ultimately be translated into best care for the dying person. Patient care will be improved by allowing clinicians to choose effective and meaningful treatments, and research impact will be improved by employing internationally agreed clinically relevant endpoints and enabling accurate comparison between studies in systematic reviews and/or in meta-analyses.

To assess the relationship between postpartum hemorrhage and ABO blood type for vaginal delivery and cesarean delivery.
This is a retrospective cohort study of data abstracted from the PeriBank database regarding demographics and delivery outcomes. All live singleton deliveries from January 2011 until March 2018 were included in this study. Exclusion criteria were sickle cell disease and multiple gestations. Analyses were conducted separately for cesarean delivery and vaginal delivery. Quantitative variables were analyzed with analysis of variance testing and categorical variables with chi square testing. Significant demographic differences between groups were controlled for using multivariate logistical regression. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to evaluate obstetrical outcomes after uterus-sparing apical prolapse repair in terms of pregnancy rate, obstetrical adverse outcomes and delivery mode according to the type of procedure. To identify potentially eligible studies, we searched PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane Library and ISI Web of Science (up to April 15, 2020). Case reports, reviews, letters to Editor, book chapters, guidelines, Cochrane reviews, and expert opinions were excluded. Twenty-four studies met inclusion criteria and were incorporated into the final assessment, which included 1518 surgical procedures. In total 151 patients got pregnant after prolapse surgical repair, for a resulting pregnancy raw rate of 9.9 %. Overall, adverse obstetric outcomes resulted low, rating 4.6 %. Manchester procedure resulted associated with the highest risk of adverse obstetrical outcomes and preterm premature rupture of membranes (p less then 0.0001). After exclusion of Manchester procedure, sacrohysteropexy was found to be associated with higher risk of obstetrical adverse outcomes compared to native-tissue procedures (p = 0.04). This recent trend may reflect increased awareness of the limitations of eponyms, greater attention to the personal and political lives of namesakes, and a cultural shift toward viewing scientific advances as the result of collective and collaborative efforts rather than the solitary achievements of eminent individuals.

We conducted a scoping review by searching six electronic databases using keywords related to perinatal bipolar disorder. We summarized descriptive statistics on settings and extracted information on care approaches. We synthesized the literature on indirect care models and extracted data on screening, follow-up, referrals, and management.
1169 articles were retrieved. 51 articles were included after review. Most papers were reviews. Fewer addressed care in obstetric (n=20, 39%), primary care (n=10, 20%), and pediatric settings (n=2, 4%). Most papers (n=30, 59%) discussed using screening instruments for bipolar disorder. Articles were mixed on recommendations for bipolar disorder screening.
Varied strategies for structured assessment exist and are influenced by practice setting. There remains uncertainty about optimal strategies for screening and management of perinatal bipolar disorder. We recommend screening for bipolar disorder in the perinatal period in select circumstances (with depression screening, known bipolar disorder risk factors, and prior to starting antidepressants). If specialty mental health care is unavailable, we recommend enhancing usual care through integrated care strategies such as indirect consultation.

Intramuscular electromyography (iEMG) signals, non-invasively recorded, directly from the muscles are used to diagnose various neuromuscular disorders/diseases, also to control rehabilitative and assistive robotic devices. iEMG signals are being potentially used in neurology, kinesiology, rehabilitation, and ergonomics, to detect/diagnose various diseases/ disorders. Electromyography (EMG) based classification systems are being designed and tested for classification of various neuromuscular disorders and to control rehabilitative and assistive robotic devices. Many studies have explored parameters, such as pre-processing, feature extraction and selection of classifier that can affect the performance and efficacy of iEMG-based classification systems. Pre-processing stage includes removal of any unwanted noise from original signal and windowing of the signal.
This study investigated and presented optimum windowing configurations for robust control and better classification results of iEMG-based classificatised to achieve best possible classification performance for any iEMG based real-time diagnosis, detection, and control system.Recently emerging spintronic terahertz (THz) emitters, featuring many appreciable merits such as low-cost, high efficiency, ultrabroadband, and ease of integration, offer multifaceted capabilities not only in understanding the fundamental ultrafast magnetism physics but also for exploring multifarious practical applications. Integration of various flexible and tunable functions at the source such as polarization manipulation, amplitude tailoring, phase modulation, and radiation beam steering with the spintronic THz emitters and their derivatives can yield more compact and elegant devices. Here, we demonstrate a monolithic metamaterial integrated onto a W/CoFeB/Pt THz nanoemitter for a purpose-designed functionality of the electromagnetically induced transparency analog. Through elaborate engineering the asymmetry degree and geometric parameters of the metamaterial structure, we successfully verified the feasibility of monolithic modulations for the radiated THz waves. The integrated device was eventually compared with a set of stand-alone metamaterial positioning scenarios, and the negligible frequency difference between two of the positioning schemes further manifests almost an ideal realization of the proposed monolithic integrated metamaterial device with a spintronic THz emitter. We believe that such adaptable and scalable devices may make valuable contributions to the designable spintronic THz devices with pre-shaping THz waves and enable chip-scale spintronic THz optics, sensing, and imaging.Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are attractive materials for realizing sensors, owing to their high aspect ratio associated with excellent mechanical, electronic, and thermal properties. Using the functionalized MWCNTs, films were fabricated with different numbers of layers (4, 6, 8, 10 layers) via inkjet printing on a flexible polyimide substrate containing an interdigital microelectrode. The influence of hydrothermal effects was investigated. The sensitivity to humidity is higher for films prepared with MWCNTs functionalized with a high sonication amplitude and a bigger number of layers due to enhancements of hydrophilicity and water mobility. A higher sensitivity to temperature is achieved by a low sonication amplitude and a small number of layers. For the encapsulation of the temperature sensor against humidity, a Bectron layer is proposed, which reduces also the hysteresis effect. In this work, we develop a facile and low-cost method of fabricating HAR cantilever flow sensors inspired by the mechanotransductory flow sensing principles found in nature. The proposed workflow entails high-resolution 3D printing to fabricate the master mould, replica moulding to create HAR polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) cantilevers (thickness = 0.5-1 mm, width = 3 mm, aspect ratio = 20) with microfluidic channel (150 μm wide × 90 μm deep) imprints, and finally graphene nanoplatelet ink drop-casting into the microfluidic channels to create a piezoresistive strain gauge near the cantilever's fixed end. The piezoresistive flow sensors were tested in controlled airflow (0-9 m s-1) inside a wind tunnel where they displayed high sensitivities of up to 5.8 kΩ m s-1, low hysteresis (11% of full-scale deflection), and good repeatability. The sensor output showed a second order dependence on airflow velocity and agreed well with analytical and finite element model predictions. There are two clinical subtypes of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) and chronic rhinosinusitis without nasal polyps (CRSsNP). The aim of the study here was to determine the levels of invasive inflammatory markers in nasal mucosa samples taken from CRSwNP patients during the surgery and to identify markers that could serve as targets for potential clinical and therapeutic interventions. The study was carried out in 59 patients with proven CRSwNP and a control group consisting of 52 healthy individuals. Concentrations of the inflammatory markers of interest were determined using a LuminexR Assay multiplex kit. The data obtained indicated that levels of inflammatory cytokines interleukin (IL)-2, -4, -5, -7, -12, -17 and -22 were all significantly higher in the nasal polyps (NP) than those in the mucosa of control participants. No differences were seen between the study groups for IL -6, -10, -13, -21 and interferon (IFN)-γ. OR (Odds Ratio) analyses confirmed that elevations in mucosal levels of IL-2, -4, -5, -7, -12, -17, and -22 were likely immune markers of CRSwNP. In conclusion, the present study demonstrated that IL-2, -4, -12 and -22 may be important in the etiopathogenesis of CRSwNP; as markers, each show moderate sensitivity, but high specificity in the Lithuanian population. Although approximately 45% of adults with Autosomal Recessive Spastic Ataxia of Charlevoix-Saguenay (ARSACS) are permanent wheelchair users, this sub population has been less studied. The purpose of this study was to document wheelchair mobility, motor performance, and participation in a cohort of adult wheelchair users with ARSACS.
We recruited 36 manual and powered wheelchair users with ARSACS, aged between 34 and 64 years, for this cross-sectional study. Participants completed measures regarding wheelchair mobility (Wheelchair Skills Test Questionnaire [WST-Q-F], Wheelchair Use Confidence Scale [WheelCon-F] and Wheelchair Outcome Measure [WhOM-F]), motor performance (Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia Sara Fred, Disease Severity Index for adults with ARSACS [DSI-ARSACS], Upper Extremity Performance Test for the Elderly [TEMPA], Standardised Finger to Nose Test [SFNT], grip strength, pinch strength, Lower Extremity Motor Coordination Test [LEMOCOT], Berg Balance Scale [BBS], Timed Up and Go [TUGh ARSACS. There is a need to offer and evaluate wheelchair skills training interventions in the future for adults with ARSACS. The general preservation of grip and pinch strength observed in this population suggests a potential for improvement. Considering the associations found between wheelchair mobility and participation, such interventions may increase users' daily and social participation.
