In light of this interpretation, multiset-partition DM (MPDM) and SpSh are reviewed as energy-efficient shaping techniques. Numerical results show that both have smaller rate losses than CCDM. SpSh-whose sole objective is to maximize the energy efficiency-is shown to have the minimum rate loss amongst all, which is particularly apparent for ultra short blocklengths. We provide simulation results of the end-to-end decoding performance showing that up to 1 dB improvement in power efficiency over uniform signaling can be obtained with MPDM and SpSh at blocklengths around 200. However, it can be difficult to (1) evaluate if the ensemble is significantly different from what would be expected in a purely noisy system and (2) determine if two ensembles are different. Herein, we introduce relatively simple methods to address these problems by analyzing ensembles of information sources. We demonstrate how an ensemble built of mutual information connections can be compared to null surrogate data to determine if the ensemble is significantly different from noise. Next, we show how two ensembles can be compared using a randomization process to determine if the sources in one contain more information than the other. In this paper, we present a human activity recognition model that acquires signal data from motion node sensors including inertial sensors, i.e., gyroscopes and accelerometers. First, the inertial data is processed via multiple filters such as Savitzky-Golay, median and hampel filters to examine lower/upper cutoff frequency behaviors. Second, it extracts a multifused model for statistical, wavelet and binary features to maximize the occurrence of optimal feature values. Then, adaptive moment estimation (Adam) and AdaDelta are introduced in a feature optimization phase to adopt learning rate patterns. These optimized patterns are further processed by the maximum entropy Markov model (MEMM) for empirical expectation and highest entropy, which measure signal variances for outperformed accuracy results. Our model was experimentally evaluated on University of Southern California Human Activity Dataset (USC-HAD) as a benchmark dataset and on an Intelligent Mediasporting behavior (IMSB), which is a new self-annotated sports dataset. For evaluation, we used the "leave-one-out" cross validation scheme and the results outperformed existing well-known statistical state-of-the-art methods by achieving an improved recognition accuracy of 91.25%, 93.66% and 90.91% when compared with USC-HAD, IMSB, and Mhealth datasets, respectively. The proposed system should be applicable to man-machine interface domains, such as health exercises, robot learning, interactive games and pattern-based surveillance.This study considers the problem of detecting a change in the conditional variance of time series with time-varying volatilities based on the cumulative sum (CUSUM) of squares test using the residuals from support vector regression (SVR)-generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedastic (GARCH) models. To compute the residuals, we first fit SVR-GARCH models with different tuning parameters utilizing a time series of training set. We then obtain the best SVR-GARCH model with the optimal tuning parameters via a time series of the validation set. Subsequently, based on the selected model, we obtain the residuals, as well as the estimates of the conditional volatility and employ these to construct the residual CUSUM of squares test. We conduct Monte Carlo simulation experiments to illustrate its validity with various linear and nonlinear GARCH models. This study aims at assessing changes in WM performance by comparing it with and without training by a professional mnemonist. Two groups, experimental and control, participated in the study, organized in two phases. For the experimental group, the lecture, given by the mnemonist, introduced memory encoding techniques; for the control group, it was a standard academic lecture about memory systems. The present work is focused on pyrolysis of polystyrene waste for production of combustible hydrocarbons. The experiments were performed in an indigenously made furnace in the presence of a laboratory synthesised copper oxide. The pyrolysis products were collected and characterised. The Fourier transform infrared spectra showed that the liquid fraction contains C-H, C-O, C-C, C=C and O-H bonds, which correspond to various aliphatic and aromatic compounds. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry traced compounds ranging from C1 to C4 in the gaseous fraction, whereas in the liquid fraction 15 components ranging from C3 to C24 were detected. From the results it has been concluded that CuO as a catalyst not only increased the liquid yield but also reduced the degradation temperature to great extent. Fuel properties of the pyrolysis oil were determined and compared with standard values of commercial fuel oil. The comparison suggested potential application of pyrolysis oil for domestic and commercial use.The objectives of this paper were to (a) systematically review studies that explored the effects of exercise order (EO) on muscular strength and/or hypertrophy; (b) pool their results using a meta-analysis; and (c) provide recommendations for the prescription of EO in resistance training (RT) programmes. The meta-analysis was performed using a random-effects model with Hedges' g effect size (ES). The methodological quality of studies was appraised using the TESTEX checklist. There is a growing interest in sociocultural approaches to OSH promotion amongst farmers, such as peer learning groups (PLGs). The level of OSH engagement within farmer PLGs (e.g. dairy discussion groups (DDGs)) is unknown. This study evaluates Irish DDG engagement with OSH in 2016 to better understand how DDGs contribute to OSH promotion.Methods A mixed-mode (online, postal, and telephone) retrospective survey of 121 DDG representatives (i.e. chairperson or long-term member) assessed voluntary OSH engagement in 2016, including the location, frequency, duration, and content of OSH discussions.Results Representatives of 96 DDGs participated in the survey and met the survey criteria. Most DDGs discussed OSH to some extent in 2016 (96%), including sharing personal experiences of accidents and illnesses (89%) and close calls (82%). For 76 DDGs, at least one meeting in 2016 addressed specific hazard and risk management topics. Groups were diverse with respect to discussion frequency, duration, and topics discussed.Conclusion Farmers actively engaged with OSH in most DDGs surveyed, suggesting dairy farmers value OSH discussions. The findings illustrate the role of DDGs in OSH promotion, as a space for farmer-led, peer-to-peer knowledge-sharing. Farm advisory (extension) services and OSH professionals can strengthen OSH engagement through tailored resources that reflect contemporary OSH knowledge and popular discussion approaches (e.g. experience-sharing).Purpose We aimed to compare the findings of a segmental speckle-tracking strain of right ventricle with those of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging in this setting.Methods In 26 patients with operated tetralogy of Fallot (mean age, 15.35 ± 2.3 years; range 11-18 years), right ventricular segmental speckle-straining (the basal, mid, apical segments of right ventricular septum and lateral free wall, and right ventricular apex) were determined using two-dimensional echocardiography. The echocardiographic findings were compared to right ventricular ejection fraction, right ventricular indexed end-diastolic volume, indexed end-systolic volume and pulmonary regurgitation fraction at cardiac magnetic resonance.Results Right ventricular global speckle strain was -18.6 ± 3.7and lateral free wall strain was -17.8 ± 4.9. Indexed right ventricular end diastolic volume was 171.7 ± 23.3 ml/m2, indexed right ventricular end systolic volume was 95.1 ± 35.0 ml/m2 and right ventricular ejection fraction was 44.76 ± 9.39%. Basal inferior septum is correlated with indexed right ventricular end-diastolic volume (RVEDV; r = -0.521, p = 0.015) and pulmonary regurgitation fraction (r = -0.584, p = 0.015). Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR)-derived RVEDV is correlated with lateral free wall (r = -0.465, p = 0.034) and Global RV (r = 0.442, p = 0.045).Conclusion Right ventricular basal inferior septal and apical longitudinal strain correlates with the measures of right ventricular performance on CMR. RESULTADOS existen barreras y facilitadores contextuales y sociales que predisponen un mayor riesgo de padecer sobrepeso y obesidad durante el embarazo. Destacan conocimientos limitados sobre una dieta saludable, condiciones de vulnerabilidad social, así como un sentido de fragilidad en las mujeres que incrementa su sedentarismo. CONCLUSIONES en el diseño e implementación de intervenciones en promoción de la salud es fundamental considerar las barreras y facilitadores culturales y socioeconómicas sobre alimentación saludable y actividad física durante el embarazo, para desarrollar intervenciones de salud pública que favorezcan una mayor prevención de sobrepeso y obesidad en mujeres embarazadas.

The results of this study indicate a correlation between myofascial pain, as diagnosed using the RDC/TMD, and somatization. It seems that somatization is a stronger predictor of an RDC/TMD diagnosis of myofascial pain than sleep bruxism is.In invasive aspergillosis (IA), an early and adequate assessment of the response to the initial antifungal therapy remains problematic. We retrospectively analyzed 206 hematology patients with proven or probable IA, and collected serial serum galactomannan (sGM) values and survival status through week 6 and week 12. We created a model for survival at week 6 based on the sGM taken at baseline and on early sGM kinetics. The results of this study indicate a correlation between myofascial pain, as diagnosed using the RDC/TMD, and somatization. It seems that somatization is a stronger predictor of an RDC/TMD diagnosis of myofascial pain than sleep bruxism is.In invasive aspergillosis (IA), an early and adequate assessment of the response to the initial antifungal therapy remains problematic. We retrospectively analyzed 206 hematology patients with proven or probable IA, and collected serial serum galactomannan (sGM) values and survival status through week 6 and week 12. We created a model for survival at week 6 based on the sGM taken at baseline and on early sGM kinetics. The following psychological interventions were considered (1) relaxation techniques, (2) cognitive-behavioural therapies, (3) mindfulness, (4) narrative medicine, (5) hypnosis and (6) coping strategies.We examined 2174 papers. Although data suggest that the sense of "loss of control" (LOC) is the most salient aspect of binge eating, the definition of LOC varies widely across eating disorder assessments. The WHO ICD-11 diagnostic guidelines for binge eating do not require an objectively large amount of food, which makes accurate LOC diagnosis even more critical. However, it can be especially challenging to assess LOC in the context of elevated weight status and in the absence of compensatory behaviors. This ICD-11 field sub-study examined how descriptions of subjective experience during distressing eating episodes, in combination with different eating episode sizes, influence diagnoses of binge-eating disorder (BED).
Mental health professionals with eating disorder expertise from WHO's Global Clinical Practice Network (N= 192) participated in English, Japanese, and Spanish. Participants were asked to select the correct diagnosis for two randomly assigned case vignettes and to rate the clinical importance and ease of use of each ct in future guidelines. Explicitly distinguishing LOC from distressing and mindless overeating could help promote consistent and accurate diagnosis of BED versus another or no eating disorder.

An ageing population has resulted in a rise in the number of hip and knee replacement surgeries in the UK. The pre-operative pathway is plagued with issues causing long delays and cancellations. Virtual healthcare technologies have a growing evidence base to help solve these issues. One problem of implementing these technologies is the resistance to change mentality from healthcare professionals. By getting their opinions on the place of these technologies within the pre-operative pathway, a united front can be formed to help deliver change.
Sixteen semi-structured interviews were conducted with key stakeholders within the orthopaedic pre-operative pathway at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. General topics included the different technologies that could be used within the pathway, their uses and associated benefits and problems. Interviews were audio-recorded, before being manually transcribed and then analysed to form categories and themes.
Various uses, benefits and problems were identified by he, the results from this study and technology trends within society highlight both M-health and E-forms as the 2 most promising virtual healthcare technologies for use in the pre-operative pathway for orthopaedics. The maximal lactate steady state (MLSS) is defined as the highest workload that can be maintained for a longer period of time without continued blood lactate (LA) accumulation. MLSS is one of the physiological indicators of aerobic performance. However, determination of MLSS requires the performance of a series of constant-intensity tests during multiple laboratory visits. Therefore, attempts are made to determine MLSS indirectly by means of anaerobic threshold (AT) evaluated during a single graded exercise test (GXT) until volitional exhaustion. Using a technique called reinforcement learning (RL), an RNN can be tuned to target a particular section of chemical space with optimized desirable properties using a scoring function. However, ligands generated by current RL methods so far tend to have relatively low diversity, and sometimes even result in duplicate structures when optimizing towards desired properties. Here, we propose a new method to address the low diversity issue in RL for molecular design. Memory-assisted RL is an extension of the known RL, with the introduction of a so-called memory unit. As proof of concept, we applied our method to generate structures with a desired AlogP value. In a second case study, we applied our method to design ligands for the dopamine type 2 receptor and the 5-hydroxytryptamine type 1A receptor. For both receptors, a machine learning model was developed to predict whether generated molecules were active or not for the receptor.

The data suggest that Qβ VLPs is an excellent approach to elicit high-titer CHIKV E2-protein antibodies at a lower dose of antigen and future studies should assess whether Qβ-CHIKV E2 aa 2800-2818 VLPs and Qβ-CHIKV E2 aa 3025-3058 VLPs can neutralize a Singapore Strain of CHIKV. Determination of influenza-specific antibody titers is commonly done using the hemagglutination inhibition assay (HAI) and the viral microneutralization assay (MN). Both assays are characterized by high intra- and inter-laboratory variability. The HAI assay offers little opportunity for standardization. For the MN assay, variability might be due to the use of different assay protocols employing different readouts. We therefore aimed at investigating which of the MN assay readout methods currently in use would be the most suitable choice for a standardized MN assay that could serve as a substitute for the HAI assay. For this purpose, human serum samples were tested for the presence of influenza specific neutralizing antibodies against A/California/7/09 H1N1 (49 sera) or A/Hong Kong/4801/2014 (50 sera) using four different infection readout methods for the MN assay (cytopathic effect, hemagglutination, ELISA, RT qPCR) and using the HAI assay. The results were compared by correlation analysis and by determining the level of agreement before and after normalization to a standard serum. Titers as measured by the 4 MN assay readouts showed good correlation, with high Person's r for most comparisons. However, agreement between nominal titers varied with readouts compared and virus strain used. In addition, Pearson's correlation of MN titers with HAI titers was high but agreement of nominal titers was moderate and the average difference between the readings of two assays (bias) was virus strain-dependent. Normalization to a standard serum did not result in better agreement of assay results. Our study demonstrates that different MN readouts result in nominally different antibody titers. Accordingly, the use of a common and standardized MN assay protocol will be crucial to minimize inter-laboratory variability. Based on reproducibility, cost effectiveness and unbiased assessment of results we elected the MN assay with ELISA readout as most suitable for a possible replacement of the HAI assay. Japanese encephalitis (JE) poses a serious threat to the world's public health yet without a cure, the only way to prevent Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) infection is vaccination. Live attenuated vaccine (SA14-14-2 strain) is the most widely used JE vaccine, and clinical data have confirmed its safety and effectiveness. Eight sitesassociated with virulence in the Envelope (E) protein are often the focus of quality control of JE vaccine. However, sequences retrieved from NCBI, as well as our previous results showed that the wild strain SA14 may harbor two different amino acids at amino acid residue 244 of the E glycoprotein (E244), and it may be related to virulence. In this study, we introduced a single mutation at nt1708 (G → A) in the full-length cDNA clone of SA14-14-2, replacing a Gly with Glu at amino acid residue 244 of the E glycoprotein, and successfully constructed the mutant virus (JEV E244). JEV E244 exhibited a similar plaque morphology and growth characteristics to JEV SA14-14-2 in cell culture. However, it had lethal neurovirulence in **** and could enter the brain following intraperitoneal inoculation. Moreover, the virulence of JEV E244 in the context of vaccine in **** is significantly different from that of the JEV E244 alone. These results suggested that E244 site should be included in the assessment of the genetic stability of the attenuated JE vaccine. Determination of influenza-specific antibody titers is commonly done using the hemagglutination inhibition assay (HAI) and the viral microneutralization assay (MN). Both assays are characterized by high intra- and inter-laboratory variability. The HAI assay offers little opportunity for standardization. For the MN assay, variability might be due to the use of different assay protocols employing different readouts. We therefore aimed at investigating which of the MN assay readout methods currently in use would be the most suitable choice for a standardized MN assay that could serve as a substitute for the HAI assay. For this purpose, human serum samples were tested for the presence of influenza specific neutralizing antibodies against A/California/7/09 H1N1 (49 sera) or A/Hong Kong/4801/2014 (50 sera) using four different infection readout methods for the MN assay (cytopathic effect, hemagglutination, ELISA, RT qPCR) and using the HAI assay. The results were compared by correlation analysis and by determining the level of agreement before and after normalization to a standard serum. Titers as measured by the 4 MN assay readouts showed good correlation, with high Person's r for most comparisons. However, agreement between nominal titers varied with readouts compared and virus strain used. In addition, Pearson's correlation of MN titers with HAI titers was high but agreement of nominal titers was moderate and the average difference between the readings of two assays (bias) was virus strain-dependent. Normalization to a standard serum did not result in better agreement of assay results. Our study demonstrates that different MN readouts result in nominally different antibody titers. Accordingly, the use of a common and standardized MN assay protocol will be crucial to minimize inter-laboratory variability. Based on reproducibility, cost effectiveness and unbiased assessment of results we elected the MN assay with ELISA readout as most suitable for a possible replacement of the HAI assay. Japanese encephalitis (JE) poses a serious threat to the world's public health yet without a cure, the only way to prevent Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) infection is vaccination. Live attenuated vaccine (SA14-14-2 strain) is the most widely used JE vaccine, and clinical data have confirmed its safety and effectiveness. Eight sitesassociated with virulence in the Envelope (E) protein are often the focus of quality control of JE vaccine. However, sequences retrieved from NCBI, as well as our previous results showed that the wild strain SA14 may harbor two different amino acids at amino acid residue 244 of the E glycoprotein (E244), and it may be related to virulence. In this study, we introduced a single mutation at nt1708 (G → A) in the full-length cDNA clone of SA14-14-2, replacing a Gly with Glu at amino acid residue 244 of the E glycoprotein, and successfully constructed the mutant virus (JEV E244). JEV E244 exhibited a similar plaque morphology and growth characteristics to JEV SA14-14-2 in cell culture. However, it had lethal neurovirulence in mice and could enter the brain following intraperitoneal inoculation. Moreover, the virulence of JEV E244 in the context of vaccine in mice is significantly different from that of the JEV E244 alone. These results suggested that E244 site should be included in the assessment of the genetic stability of the attenuated JE vaccine. The detection of minor mutations in vaccine population and influence on the safety of vaccine is discussed. A computational multilayer light field display has been explored as one of the approaches that can potentially overcome the VAC problem owing to the promise of rendering a true 3D scene by sampling the directions of the light rays apparently emitted by the 3D scene. Several pioneering works have demonstrated working prototypes of multilayer light field displays and the potential capability of rendering nearly correct focus cues. However, there is no systematic investigation upon methods for modeling and analyzing such a display, which is essential for further optimization and development of high-performance multilayer light field display systems. In this paper, we proposed a systemic analysis method for the multilayer light field displays by simulating the perceived retinal image which takes the display factors, the view-dependency of the reference light field, the diffraction effect, and the visual factors into consideration. Then we applied this model to investigate the accommodative response when observing the display engine.By rotating the four-section π-shifted phase plate in the transverse plane relatively to the axes of the elliptical beam of 800-nm, 1.1-mJ, 35-fs pulse propagating in air, we switch between the regime of four parallel plasma channels and the regime of spatial symmetry breakup followed by on-axis plasma channel formation identified on the burnt paper images of the beam. Relaxation of the π-phase shift for 45° phase plate rotation is demonstrated explicitly in 3D+time carrier wave resolved numerical simulations yielding the initial step-like phase distribution degradation along the plasma region. This degradation becomes negligible as the angle between the ellipse major axis and the π-phase break line decreases to 15°.Replacing mechanical optical beam steering devices with non-mechanical electro-optic devices has been a long-standing desire for applications such as space-based communication, LiDAR and autonomous vehicles. This architecture employs a linear array of phase control elements to locally control the orientation of the liquid crystal director into a cycloidal pattern to deflect transmitted light. The PCEs are comprised of a fringe field switching electrode structure that can provide a variable in-plane electric field. Detailed modeling of the proposed design is presented which demonstrates that such a device can achieve a high degree of uniformity as it rotates the LC molecules over the 180 ° angular range required to create a Pancharatnam phase device.A conventional hollow core fiber (HCF) scheme is implemented to investigate spectral broadening of TitaniumSapphire (Ti-Sa) femtosecond laser pulses in saturated hydrocarbon molecules compared to unsaturated ones. The HCB technology enables a polymer-free bonding between diaphragm and hollow tube on fiber tip with the obvious advantages of high alignment precision, normal pressure and temperature (NPT) operation, and reliable effectiveness. The static pressure and temperature response of the proposed sensor are discussed. Results show that the sensor has a measurable pressure range of 0∼100 kPa, which is well consistent with the measurement range of biological blood pressure.

Hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn is a disease that is caused by maternal alloantibodies to the fetus. In the literature, the frequency of hemolytic disease of the newborn due to Rh (D) sensitization decreased inversely with the increase in the use of anti-D gammaglobulin. However, the importance of minor blood group incompatibilities has increased in the etiology. Clinical presentation in patients with minor blood group incompatibility may vary from subclinical hemolysis findings to active hemolysis and hyperbilirubinemia requiring blood exchange. In this case study, we present a patient with hemolytic anemia due to anti-c antibody incompatibility.Rhinosinusitis is a common infection and may rarely cause severe life-threatening orbital and intracranial complications. In this study, two cases with preseptal cellulitis and meningitis as a complication of rhinosinusitis were presented in the light of the literature. A nine years and two months old girl was admitted with complaints as fever, redness and swelling in the left eye. Physical examination revealed erythema and edema in the left lower and upper eyelids, and the eye movements were painless and normal in all directions. An eight years and five months old boy presented with fever, redness and swelling in the left eye was admitted. There were erythema and edema in the left lower and upper eyelid; the eye movements were painless in all directions and were complete. The patient's fever persisted under treatment and erythema and edema of the eye became more evident. After 14 days of appropriate antibiotic treatment, the patient recovered and was discharged. Intracranial complication due to preseptal sinusitis is rare but life-threatening. In these cases, we recommend the use of MRI as the radiological imaging method.
Discrimination of benign and malignant adnexal masses is crucial for the follow-up and prognosis of the patient. Since each modality alone does not have enough sensitivity, the combination of all methods called multimodal screening is currently being used. In this study, we aimed to compare pelvic mass score (PMS) and the risk of malignancy index (RMI-3) scoring systems in determining the malignant potential of adnexal masses.
In this prospective observational study, 40 patients between the age of 15-79 who were diagnosed as an adnexal mass were included between March and October 2016. Patients were classified as benign (n=20) and malignant (n=20). The age, gravida, parity, findings of a pelvic examination, medical and family history, laboratory parameters, sonographic findings, histopathological results, PMS and RMI-3 scores of the patients were recorded.
The mean age, CA-125 levels, Sassone scores and ultrasonography scores of patients were higher in malignant cases, whereas the resistance index was ltical than the RMI-3 scoring system.
Age, menopause status, tumor markers and sonographic parameters may be beneficial alone for determining malignancy, whereas the scoring systems integrating all the parameters are more powerful. According to our findings, PMS is more sensitive and more practical than the RMI-3 scoring system.
The present study aims to conduct a translation and transcultural adaptation of the International Hip Outcome Tool - 12 (IHOT-12) into Turkish and evaluate the psychometric characteristics of the Turkish version of IHOT-12 (IHOT-12-TR) for validity and reliability in Turkish patients with hip joint disorders.
Following the translation and transcultural adaptation procedures, 109 patients completed the IHOT-12-TR and Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) scale. The retest was completed by 40 patients approximately one week after the initial assessments. The psychometric properties of the questionnaire were tested.
Cronbach's alpha of 0.927 revealed the internal consistency to be highly satisfactory. The overall Interclass coefficient (ICC) between test and retest was 0.927 (p<0.001). The correlation between IHOT-12-TR and WOMAC scores was strong and statistically significant (r=0.815, p<0.001). The explanatory factor analyses revealed that IHOT-12-TR had a single factor structure, explaining 61.9% of the total variance. There was no floor or ceiling effect on the items and overall scale scores.
The results of the analyses in this study demonstrated that the Turkish version of the IHOT- 12 scale, the IHOT-12-TR, is a valid and reliable tool to evaluate the functionality of patients with hip pathologies.

The necessity of cyclic exercise to pre-stretch the autograft before tibial fixation during ACL reconstruction is unknown. In this study, we evaluated whether there was a statistically significant difference between the results of patients who underwent cyclic exercise by way of physical examinations, knee joint stability tests, and functional evaluation tests, compared with the patients who underwent ACL reconstructions with or without cyclic exercise.
Between March 2016 and May 2018, 59 patients with at least eight months' follow-up of an ACL reconstruction were identified. Thirty patients (Group 1) who underwent cyclic exercise before tibial fixation and 29 patients (Group 2) who did not undergo cyclic exercise were evaluated and compared.
The mean age of the patients in Group 1 and Group 2 was 25.9 (range, 18-36) years and 25.2 (range, 18-35) years, respectively. The mean follow-up period in Group 1 was 14.6 (range, 8-22) months and 13.5 months in Group 2 (range, 8-21 months).The mean Lysholm scores of Group 1 and 2 were 95.
Hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn is a disease that is caused by maternal alloantibodies to the fetus. In the literature, the frequency of hemolytic disease of the newborn due to Rh (D) sensitization decreased inversely with the increase in the use of anti-D gammaglobulin. In this study, we aimed to compare pelvic mass score (PMS) and the risk of malignancy index (RMI-3) scoring systems in determining the malignant potential of adnexal masses. In this prospective observational study, 40 patients between the age of 15-79 who were diagnosed as an adnexal mass were included between March and October 2016. Patients were classified as benign (n=20) and malignant (n=20). The age, gravida, parity, findings of a pelvic examination, medical and family history, laboratory parameters, sonographic findings, histopathological results, PMS and RMI-3 scores of the patients were recorded. The mean age, CA-125 levels, Sassone scores and ultrasonography scores of patients were higher in malignant cases, whereas the resistance index was ltical than the RMI-3 scoring system. Age, menopause status, tumor markers and sonographic parameters may be beneficial alone for determining malignancy, whereas the scoring systems integrating all the parameters are more powerful. According to our findings, PMS is more sensitive and more practical than the RMI-3 scoring system. The present study aims to conduct a translation and transcultural adaptation of the International Hip Outcome Tool - 12 (IHOT-12) into Turkish and evaluate the psychometric characteristics of the Turkish version of IHOT-12 (IHOT-12-TR) for validity and reliability in Turkish patients with hip joint disorders. Following the translation and transcultural adaptation procedures, 109 patients completed the IHOT-12-TR and Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) scale. The retest was completed by 40 patients approximately one week after the initial assessments. The psychometric properties of the questionnaire were tested. Cronbach's alpha of 0.927 revealed the internal consistency to be highly satisfactory. The overall Interclass coefficient (ICC) between test and retest was 0.927 (p<0.001). The correlation between IHOT-12-TR and WOMAC scores was strong and statistically significant (r=0.815, p<0.001). The explanatory factor analyses revealed that IHOT-12-TR had a single factor structure, explaining 61.9% of the total variance. There was no floor or ceiling effect on the items and overall scale scores. In this study, we evaluated whether there was a statistically significant difference between the results of patients who underwent cyclic exercise by way of physical examinations, knee joint stability tests, and functional evaluation tests, compared with the patients who underwent ACL reconstructions with or without cyclic exercise. Between March 2016 and May 2018, 59 patients with at least eight months' follow-up of an ACL reconstruction were identified. Thirty patients (Group 1) who underwent cyclic exercise before tibial fixation and 29 patients (Group 2) who did not undergo cyclic exercise were evaluated and compared. The mean age of the patients in Group 1 and Group 2 was 25.9 (range, 18-36) years and 25.2 (range, 18-35) years, respectively. Laboratory data (expected infrequently) underestimated retention compared to clinic visit data that identified > 80% of women considered retained in all definitions. In all estimates, associations with known risk factors for non-retention remained consistent and retention declined over time 77%, 65% and 58% retained using all data sources in months 6-12, 12-18 and 18-24, respectively (p less then 0.001). The 180-day gap definition was most strongly associated with viremia (OR 24.3 95%CI 12.0-48.9, all data sources). CONCLUSION Researchers must carefully consider the most appropriate retention definition and data source depending on available data. Presenting more than one approach may be warranted to obtain estimates that are context-appropriate and comparable across settings. The effects of rapid hemorrhage on coagulopathy have been reported. However, the effects of different hemorrhage speeds on the blood coagulation/fibrinolysis system have not been investigated. This study aimed to compare different hemorrhage speeds for clarifying their effects on the coagulation/fibrinolysis system and circulation disorders in rats. Male Sprague-Dawley rats (301-396 g) were randomly assigned to five groups depending on hemorrhage speed and length of procedure first, rapid (1.4 ml/min, 30-min bleeding); second, rapid-L (1.4 ml/min, 30-min bleeding and observation until 6 h); third, slow (0.1 ml/min, intermittently, 6-h bleeding); fourth, control (30-min observation); and fifth, control-L (6-h observation). Hemorrhage was induced by withdrawing blood until 40% of the estimated blood volume from the femoral artery. We measured vital signs, hematology, general chemistry, blood gas status, coagulation parameters, fibrinolytic markers [tissue-type plasminogen activator and plasminogen activator inhibitor one (PAI-1)], vascular endothelial damage (syndecan-1), and liver PAI-1 mRNA expression. Rapid hemorrhage induced elevation of lactate and syndecan-1 levels and prolonged prothrombin time and activated partial thromboplastin time in the rapid group. In contrast, slow hemorrhage did not induce these changes. Hemorrhage speed had no effect on plasma tissue-type plasminogen activator and hematology. Plasma PAI-1 levels were significantly increased in the rapid-L group, while liver PAI-1 mRNA levels were increased in the slow group. This study shows changes in the circulatory and fibrinolysis systems, depending on the hemorrhage speed. Between 11/27/1997 and 01/15/2014, vital status was determined for 384 patients admitted for AN at the first time in the CNU. Sociodemographic, anamnestic, and clinical data were collected. We calculated the SMR. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were performed to identify mortality predictors.
Crude mortality rate was 11.5%. (44 deaths) and SMR 15.9 [CI 95% (11.6-21.4)], 5.2years post inpatient treatment. Mortality predictors at the time of hospitalization were as follows older age, occurrence of an in-hospital suicide attempt, transfer to mediy that will help clinicians in recognizing and managing patients at risk of death.
Age at menarche (AAM) is an important indicator of physiological development in women, and delayed AAM has been associated with chronic illnesses. We investigated predictive factors at diagnosis that influence AAM in adolescents with chronic respiratory diseases.
AAM was assessed in 1207 northern Italian female aged 11-24 (1062 healthy, 98 with asthma and 47 with cystic fibrosis [CF]). AAM was defined by recall and status quo methods. We studied anthropometric data, metabolic status, diagnosis parameters, presence of irregular menses. Clinical data of subjects with chronic respiratory illness were compared with that of healthy adolescents.
Mean AAM for healthy adolescents was 12.49±1.2years. Mother's AAM was positively associated with that of their daughters (P<.001). BMI was negatively correlated with AAM (P<.001). 69% of healthy adolescents referred regular menses. AAM in the different groups was 12.79±3.0years for patients with asthma (P<.05 vs healthy) and 13.24±1.44years for adolescents with CF (P<.0001 vs healthy). In the asthmatic group, 57% of the patients referred regular menses, and no significant differences were found between AAM and control of the disease (ACT test). In the CF group, no correlation was found between the type of CFTR mutation or FEV1% and AAM. 53% of the patients with CF referred regular menses.

Heart failure is associated with an impaired NO-soluble guanylyl cyclase (sGC)-cGMP pathway and its augmentation is thought to be beneficial for its therapy. We hypothesized that stimulation of sGC by the sGC stimulator riociguat prevents pathological cardiac remodelling and heart failure in response to chronic pressure overload.
Transverse aortic constriction or sham surgery was performed in C57BL/6N ****. After 3 weeks of transverse aortic constriction when heart failure was established, animals receive either riociguat or its vehicle for 5 additional weeks. Cardiac function was evaluated weekly by echocardiography. Eight weeks after surgery, histological analyses were performed to evaluate remodelling and the transcriptome of the left ventricles (LVs) was analysed by RNA sequencing. Cell culture experiments were used for mechanistically studies.
Transverse aortic constriction resulted in a continuous decrease of LV ejection fraction and an increase in LV mass until week 3. Five weeks of riociguat treatment resulted in an improved LV ejection fraction and a decrease in the ratio of left ventricular mass to total body weight (LVM/BW), myocardial fibrosis and myocyte cross-sectional area. RNA sequencing revealed that riociguat reduced the expression of myocardial stress and remodelling genes (e.g. Nppa, Nppb, Myh7 and collagen) and attenuated the activation of biological pathways associated with cardiac hypertrophy and heart failure. We studied anthropometric data, metabolic status, diagnosis parameters, presence of irregular menses. Clinical data of subjects with chronic respiratory illness were compared with that of healthy adolescents. Mean AAM for healthy adolescents was 12.49±1.2years. Mother's AAM was positively associated with that of their daughters (P<.001). BMI was negatively correlated with AAM (P<.001). 69% of healthy adolescents referred regular menses. Heart failure is associated with an impaired NO-soluble guanylyl cyclase (sGC)-cGMP pathway and its augmentation is thought to be beneficial for its therapy. We hypothesized that stimulation of sGC by the sGC stimulator riociguat prevents pathological cardiac remodelling and heart failure in response to chronic pressure overload. Transverse aortic constriction or sham surgery was performed in C57BL/6N mice. After 3 weeks of transverse aortic constriction when heart failure was established, animals receive either riociguat or its vehicle for 5 additional weeks. Cardiac function was evaluated weekly by echocardiography. Eight weeks after surgery, histological analyses were performed to evaluate remodelling and the transcriptome of the left ventricles (LVs) was analysed by RNA sequencing. Cell culture experiments were used for mechanistically studies. Transverse aortic constriction resulted in a continuous decrease of LV ejection fraction and an increase in LV mass until week 3. Five weeks of riociguat treatment resulted in an improved LV ejection fraction and a decrease in the ratio of left ventricular mass to total body weight (LVM/BW), myocardial fibrosis and myocyte cross-sectional area.
