In this work, using robotic observations, we quantified total mesopelagic fragmentation during 34 high-flux events across multiple ocean regions and found that fragmentation accounted for 49 ± 22% of the observed flux loss. More than 20% of the terrestrial surface will cross one or several of these thresholds by 2100, which calls for immediate actions to minimize the negative impacts of aridification on essential ecosystem services for the more than 2 billion people living in drylands. Robust helical edge transport emerged at magnetic fields as low as 1 tesla and withstanding temperatures up to 110 kelvin over micron-long distances. This versatile graphene platform may find applications in spintronics and topological quantum computation. Here, we report a molybdenum-doped nickel nanocatalyst that is stabilized at the edges of a single-crystalline magnesium oxide (MgO) support and show quantitative production of synthesis gas from dry reforming of methane. The catalyst runs more than 850 hours of continuous operation under 60 liters per unit mass of catalyst per hour reactive gas flow with no detectable coking. Synchrotron studies also show no sintering and reveal that during activation, 2.9 nanometers as synthesized crystallites move to combine into stable 17-nanometer grains at the edges of MgO crystals above the Tammann temperature. Our findings enable an industrially and economically viable path for carbon reclamation, and the "Nanocatalysts On Single Crystal Edges" technique could lead to stable catalyst designs for many challenging reactions.   • Violent traumatic brain injury (TBI) can cause brain dysfunction and injury. Accidental and nonaccidental trauma are still the leading cause of childhood death worldwide. It is assumed that about 20% of TBI in children under 2 years of age are nonaccidentally caused. In all cases, nonaccidental TBI is caused by the violent impact on the brain and spinal cord by the massive shaking of the child held by the upper arms or body. This can lead to a rupture of blood vessels, especially bridge veins, as well as axonal shear injuries to the nerve connections and brain swelling. Involvement of the brain stem can lead to initial short-term respiratory arrest. The resulting clinical symptoms include poor drinking, drowsiness, apathy, cerebral seizures, breathing disorders, temperature disorders, and vomiting as a result of increased intracranial pressure. Long-term disorders can include neurological and neuropsychological disorders, hearing disorders, visual disorders up to blindness, and poor school performance. In addition, there are metaphyseal fractures and rib fractures of various forms, also of different ages. Since shaking trauma has a poor prognosis, preventive measures are useful education!Quality assessment is gaining in importance in sports orthopedics and traumatology. Structural, process and results quality are differentiated as central quality dimensions in healthcare. Structural quality is understood to mean the capabilities of the institution involved in patient care with its human and material resources. Structural quality can be documented using institutional certificates (e.g. knee center of the German Knee Society, DKG) or personal certificates (e.g. DKG knee surgeon). Process quality evaluates all medical, nursing and administrative activities that are involved in the care process. The outcome quality describes changes in the patient's state of health that can be attributed to medical, nursing and physiotherapeutic measures. The measurement of the outcome quality can be broken down into objective and subjective parameters. In terms of subjective parameters patient reported outcome measures (PROM) play a major role. Another quality initiative in recent years can be seen in healthcare research. In this context medical registers play a role in which long-term healthcare data are prospectively collated and involves data on the quality of the process and outcome. The outcome quality is also the focus of value-based reimbursement systems.Carbon profiling of heterotrophic microbial inoculants is worthwhile strategy for formulating consortium-based biofertilizers. Consortium-based biofertilizers are better than single strain-based biofertilizers for sustaining agricultural productivity and enhancing micronutrient concentration in grains. Currently, we investigated catabolic diversity among microbes using different carbon sources and certain enzyme activities. A field experiment was also carried to evaluate the synergistic effect of selected lentil Rhizobia and plant growth promoting rhizobacteria strains on lentil growth, yield, nitrogen fixation, and Fe-content in seeds. On the basis of carbon profiling Bacillus sp. RB1 and Pseudomonas sp. RP1 were selected for synergistic study with lentil Rhizobium-Rhizobium leguminosarum subsp. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/bso-l-buthionine-s-r-sulfoximine.html viciae RR1. Co-inoculation of Rhizobium with Bacillus sp. RB1 and Pseudomonas sp.     The most common surgical approaches for breast augmentation in Asia have traditionally been peri-areolar and transaxillary. In recent years, transaxillary approach has become increasingly popular with the use of endoscopic methods, which result in safer and better outcomes. In the literature, there are no comparison studies of endoscopic transaxillary and peri-areolar approaches.

    This prospective study compared the outcomes of 275 women undergoing primary breast augmentation (endoscopic transaxillary n=205, peri-areolar n=70). All procedures were performed by a single surgeon using smooth round silicone implants and dual-plane pockets from April 2013 to March 2016. Every patient was monitored for a minimum of 4 years for minor and major complications.

    The objective was to translate the International Consultation of Incontinence Questionnaire (ICIQ) bladder diary into Persian and validate it among the Iranian population with lower urinary tract symptoms.

    After obtaining permission from the ICIQ group to translate the ICIQ bladder diary into Persian, we translated, ****-translated it, and developed a Persian ICIQ bladder diary. Then, we evaluated its reliability and validity virtually via social media owing to some limitations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. We calculated the content validity index (CVI) and content validity ratio (CVR) quantitatively.

    Thirty-nine participants completed the final version of the ICIQ bladder diary. Most of the participants were female (76.3%). For face validity, we interviewed 10 participants. Most of them considered it easy to complete the bladder diary, using a 500-ml measuring cup. Ten experts' panel determined the CVI, and the CVR. All ICIQ bladder diary criteria gained a high score, and all experts believed that all criteria of the diary were essential for patient evaluation (CVI 0.

    The developing fetus requires adequate iron and produces its own hormones to regulate this process. Erythroferrone (ERFE) is a recently identified iron regulatory hormone, and normative data on ERFE concentrations and relations between iron status and other iron regulatory hormones at birth are needed.

    The objective of this study was to characterize cord ERFE concentrations at birth and assess interrelations between ERFE, iron regulatory hormones, and iron status biomarkers in 2 cohorts of newborns at higher risk of neonatal anemia.

    Umbilical cord ERFE concentrations were measured in extant serum samples collected from neonates born to women carrying multiples (age 21-43 y; n=127) or teens (age 14-19 y; n=164). Relations between cord blood ERFE and other markers of iron status or erythropoiesis in cord blood were assessed by linear regression and mediation analysis.

    Cord ERFE was detectable in all newborns delivered between 30 and 42 weeks of gestation, and mean concentration at birth was 0.73ng/mL (9on or Hb concentrations.     Body image-related distress (BID) is common among head and neck cancer (HNC) survivors and associated with significant morbidity. Risk factors for HNC-related BID remain poorly characterized because prior research has used outcome measures that fail to fully capture BID as experienced by HNC survivors.

    To assess the association of demographic and oncologic characteristics with HNC-related BID using the Inventory to Measure and Assess imaGe disturbancE-Head & Neck (IMAGE-HN), a validated, multidomain, patient-reported outcome measure of HNC-related BID.

    This cross-sectional study assessed 301 adult survivors of surgically managed HNC at 4 academic medical centers.

    The primary outcome measure was IMAGE-HN scores, for which higher scores reflect more severe HNC-related BID. Multivariable linear regression analyses were performed to evaluate the association of patient characteristics with IMAGE-HN global and 4 subdomain (other-oriented appearance concerns, personal dissatisfaction with appearance, disional study, factors associated with risk of HNC-related BID included free flap reconstruction, lower educational attainment, unemployment, and multiple treatment modalities. These characteristics explain a modest proportion of variance in IMAGE-HN scores, suggesting that other characteristics may be the major risk factors for HNC-related BID and should be explored in future studies.

    A literature search in PubMed, MEDLINE, and Embase revealed 10 910 articles published between 2000 and 2021 that included the terms leadership and variations of emergency, crisis, disaster, pandemic, COVID-19, or public health. Using the Standards for Quality Improvement Reporting Excellence reporting guideline for consensus statement development, this assessment adopted a 6-round modified Delphi approach involving 32 expert coauthors from 17 countries who participated in creating and validating a framework outlining essential leadership imperatives.

The objective of this study was to characterize cord ERFE concentrations at birth and assess interrelations between ERFE, iron regulatory hormones, and iron status biomarkers in 2 cohorts of newborns at higher risk of neonatal anemia. Umbilical cord ERFE concentrations were measured in extant serum samples collected from neonates born to women carrying multiples (age 21-43 y; n=127) or teens (age 14-19 y; n=164). Relations between cord blood ERFE and other markers of iron status or erythropoiesis in cord blood were assessed by linear regression and mediation analysis. Cord ERFE was detectable in all newborns delivered between 30 and 42 weeks of gestation, and mean concentration at birth was 0.73ng/mL (9on or Hb concentrations. To assess the association of demographic and oncologic characteristics with HNC-related BID using the Inventory to Measure and Assess imaGe disturbancE-Head & Neck (IMAGE-HN), a validated, multidomain, patient-reported outcome measure of HNC-related BID. This cross-sectional study assessed 301 adult survivors of surgically managed HNC at 4 academic medical centers. The primary outcome measure was IMAGE-HN scores, for which higher scores reflect more severe HNC-related BID. Multivariable linear regression analyses were performed to evaluate the association of patient characteristics with IMAGE-HN global and 4 subdomain (other-oriented appearance concerns, personal dissatisfaction with appearance, disional study, factors associated with risk of HNC-related BID included free flap reconstruction, lower educational attainment, unemployment, and multiple treatment modalities. These characteristics explain a modest proportion of variance in IMAGE-HN scores, suggesting that other characteristics may be the major risk factors for HNC-related BID and should be explored in future studies.   • The present study used a binding assay to identify novel target biomolecules of l-menthol ([-]-menthol) that promote mouse ambulation. Among 88 different ligands to specific biomolecules examined, 0.1 mM l-menthol inhibited the binding of 13 ligands with relatively high inhibition rates. The assays showed that l-menthol acts on calcium channels, sodium channels, γ-aminobutyric acid type A (GABAA) receptor, GABA transporter, dopamine transporter, dopamine D4 receptor, adenosine A2a receptor, α2A-adrenergic receptor, histamine H2 receptor, bombesin receptor, angiotensin AT1 receptor, vasopressin V2 receptor, and leukotriene B4 receptor over a similar concentration range. The inhibition constant (Ki) for l-menthol inhibition of binding of [3H]-WIN35,428 to the human recombinant dopamine transporter was 6.15 × 10-4 mol/L. The Ki for l-menthol inhibition of binding of [3H]-ethynylbicycloorthobenzoate (EBOB), a ligand of GABAA receptor picrotoxin site, was 2.88 × 10-4 mol/L. The empirical results reveal that entrepreneurial leadership via the full mediators of team creativity, dynamic capabilities, and competitive advantages can enhance the performance of IT SMEs. While entrepreneurial orientation does not influence SMEs' business performance, technological innovation capabilities can provide some benefits. Using the information from the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) database 14 Waddlia specific metabolic pathways were identified with respect to humans. Analyzing the data from KAAS and KEGG databases, forty-eight metabolic pathway-dependent, and seventy metabolic pathway independent proteins were identified.

  • This suggests that, for most smokers, dual use is a transitional state leading to switching completely away from cigarettes. Furthermore, dual use is often marked by substantial reductions in cigarette consumption.Objectives In this study, we assessed complete switching away from cigarette smoking among adult smokers who purchased a JUUL Starter Kit (JSK). Methods Adult (age ≥ 21) established smokers (smoked ≥ 100 lifetime cigarettes) who purchased a JSK in 2018 were invited to complete online surveys 1, 2, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months after initial JSK purchase. Point prevalence of switching (no past 30-day smoking) was assessed at each follow-up. Repeated measures logistic regression models evaluated associations of sociodemographic factors, baseline smoking characteristics and time-varying JUUL System ("JUUL") use characteristics and switching across the 12-month period. Results Respondents (N = 17,986) were 55.0% male, 78.3% white, mean age = 32.65 years (SD = 10.81), mean baseline cigarettes/day = 11.10 (SD = 8.16). The proportion self-reporting switching increased over time one-month (27.2%[3718/13,650]), 2-month (36.4%[4926/13,533]), 3-month (41.0%[5434/13,257]), 6-month (46.6%[5411/11,621]), 9-month (49.4%[6017/12,186]), and 12-month (51.2%[6106/11,919]); 33.1% reported switching at both 9-month and 12-month follow-ups. In prospective analyses, smokers with lower cigarette dependence, shorter smoking history, lower cigarette consumption, more frequent JUUL use, greater satisfaction from initial JUUL use, and higher JUUL dependence were significantly more likely to switch. Conclusions Rates of switching with JUUL increased over time. Over 50% of respondents reported complete switching away from cigarettes 12 months following purchase. Greater use of and dependence on JUUL predicted switching.Objectives The Adult JUUL System User Switching and Smoking Trajectories (ADJUSST) study assessed the smoking and JUUL use trajectories of adults who purchased JUUL. In this paper, we describe study methods, characterize the sample, and assesses potential for bias due to loss to follow-up. Methods We entered 55,414 US adults (≥ age 21) who purchased a JUUL Starter Kit for the first time (online or at retail) in 2018 into a naturalistic, longitudinal observational study, irrespective of baseline smoking status. Participants were invited for follow-ups 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, and 12 months later, focused on assessing past-30-day smoking and JUUL use. Analyses assessed potential bias due to non-response. Results Over 90% of participants had a history of smoking; 62.8% were past-30-day smokers; 23.3% were former smokers. Participants' average age was 30; 75% were white. Most participants (77.6%) completed some follow-ups; 25% completed all follow-ups. Baseline differences among complete responders (N = 13,729), partial responders (N = 29,252), and complete non-responders (N = 12,433) were small. When recontacted, few 12-month non-responders said their non-response was due to smoking; many reported no past-30-day smoking. Conclusions The study may elucidate smoking trajectories of adult JUUL users. The potential for bias due to loss to follow-up in ADJUSST was limited.Objectives In this paper, we estimate the prevalence of electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) and JUUL brand ENDS use among adults in the US, overall and by smoking history. Methods We obtained 2019 cross-sectional online surveys assessing smoking, use of any ENDS, and JUUL specifically, in a national probability sample of 11,833 US adults. Data were analyzed for young adults (YA; aged 18-24) and older adults (OA; aged 25+). Results Past 30-day ENDS prevalence was 8.0% in YA and 4.7% in OA; equivalent JUUL figures were 3.1% and 1.2%. ENDS/JUUL use was more prevalent among current and former smokers than never smokers, where prevalence was ≤ 2% (YA 2.0%/0.9%; OA 0.9%/0.1%). JUUL use was higher among recent ( 98%) ENDS and JUUL users were current or former smokers, which is relevant to assessment of the population impact of these products.This special issue addresses key topics relating to the public health impact of the use of electronic nicotine delivery devices (ENDS), particularly JUUL-brand ENDS. Smokers smoke for nicotine, but are harmed by the byproducts of combustion. ENDS can play a role in tobacco harm reduction offering a noncombustible alternative source of nicotine for adult smokers who would otherwise continue smoking. Papers presented here estimate the prevalence of ENDS and JUUL use among young and older adults, and document the 12-month smoking trajectories of adults who purchased a JUUL Starter Kit. Overall, smoking prevalence was halved, with most smokers switching completely as dual use declined. This held for subpopulations defined by demographics and psychiatric comorbidity. For those who did not switch, most significantly reduced (50%+) their cigarette consumption. Another study reports that dependence declines as smokers switch from smoking to using JUUL. The public health potential of ENDS is undermined by use of ENDS by nonsmokers, especially underage individuals. Some smoking was reported by adult former and never smokers, with little evidence of persistent smoking, and lower risk of smoking among those using JUUL more frequently. Regarding underage use, one paper reports that technology can ensure age-verification at point of ****. Population modeling integrating impacts on diverse populations indicates that availability of ENDS is expected to avert millions of premature deaths in the US. Methods Adult (age ≥ 21) established smokers (smoked ≥ 100 lifetime cigarettes) who purchased a JSK in 2018 were invited to complete online surveys 1, 2, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months after initial JSK purchase. Point prevalence of switching (no past 30-day smoking) was assessed at each follow-up. Repeated measures logistic regression models evaluated associations of sociodemographic factors, baseline smoking characteristics and time-varying JUUL System ("JUUL") use characteristics and switching across the 12-month period. Results Respondents (N = 17,986) were 55.0% male, 78.3% white, mean age = 32.65 years (SD = 10.81), mean baseline cigarettes/day = 11.10 (SD = 8.16). The proportion self-reporting switching increased over time one-month (27.2%[3718/13,650]), 2-month (36.4%[4926/13,533]), 3-month (41.0%[5434/13,257]), 6-month (46.6%[5411/11,621]), 9-month (49.4%[6017/12,186]), and 12-month (51.2%[6106/11,919]); 33.1% reported switching at both 9-month and 12-month follow-ups. In prospective analyses, smokers with lower cigarette dependence, shorter smoking history, lower cigarette consumption, more frequent JUUL use, greater satisfaction from initial JUUL use, and higher JUUL dependence were significantly more likely to switch. Conclusions Rates of switching with JUUL increased over time. Over 50% of respondents reported complete switching away from cigarettes 12 months following purchase. Greater use of and dependence on JUUL predicted switching.Objectives The Adult JUUL System User Switching and Smoking Trajectories (ADJUSST) study assessed the smoking and JUUL use trajectories of adults who purchased JUUL. In this paper, we describe study methods, characterize the sample, and assesses potential for bias due to loss to follow-up. Methods We entered 55,414 US adults (≥ age 21) who purchased a JUUL Starter Kit for the first time (online or at retail) in 2018 into a naturalistic, longitudinal observational study, irrespective of baseline smoking status. Participants were invited for follow-ups 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, and 12 months later, focused on assessing past-30-day smoking and JUUL use. Analyses assessed potential bias due to non-response. Results Over 90% of participants had a history of smoking; 62.8% were past-30-day smokers; 23.3% were former smokers. Participants' average age was 30; 75% were white. Most participants (77.6%) completed some follow-ups; 25% completed all follow-ups. Baseline differences among complete responders (N = 13,729), partial responders (N = 29,252), and complete non-responders (N = 12,433) were small. When recontacted, few 12-month non-responders said their non-response was due to smoking; many reported no past-30-day smoking. Conclusions The study may elucidate smoking trajectories of adult JUUL users. The potential for bias due to loss to follow-up in ADJUSST was limited.Objectives In this paper, we estimate the prevalence of electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) and JUUL brand ENDS use among adults in the US, overall and by smoking history. Methods We obtained 2019 cross-sectional online surveys assessing smoking, use of any ENDS, and JUUL specifically, in a national probability sample of 11,833 US adults. Data were analyzed for young adults (YA; aged 18-24) and older adults (OA; aged 25+). Results Past 30-day ENDS prevalence was 8.0% in YA and 4.7% in OA; equivalent JUUL figures were 3.1% and 1.2%. ENDS/JUUL use was more prevalent among current and former smokers than never smokers, where prevalence was ≤ 2% (YA 2.0%/0.9%; OA 0.9%/0.1%). JUUL use was higher among recent ( 98%) ENDS and JUUL users were current or former smokers, which is relevant to assessment of the population impact of these products.This special issue addresses key topics relating to the public health impact of the use of electronic nicotine delivery devices (ENDS), particularly JUUL-brand ENDS. Molecular analyses and infection studies using OsPHR2-Ov1 and phr2 mutants further demonstrated that OsPHR2 enhances antibacterial resistance via transcriptional regulation of OsMYC2 expression, indicating a positive role of OsPHR2-OsMYC2 crosstalk in modulating the OsMYC2 signaling and Xoo infection. Genetic analysis and infection assays using **** mutants revealed that Pi starvation-induced OsMYC2 signaling activation and consequent Xoo resistance depends on the regulation of OsMYC2. In this article, a method to separate microalgae based on inertia-enhanced pinched flow fractionation (iPFF) was reported. The method utilized the inertial lift force induced by flow to separate microalgae according to size continuously. The experimental results show that, as the Reynolds number increases, the separation effect becomes better at first, but then stays unchanged. The best separation effect can be obtained when the Reynolds number is 12.3. In addition, with the increase of the flow rate ratio between sheath fluid and microalgae mixture, the separation effect becomes better and the best separation effect can be obtained when the flow rate ratio reaches 10. In this case, the recovery rate of Tetraselmis sp. is about 90%, and the purity is about 86%; the recovery rate of Chlorella sp. is as high as 99%, and the purity is about 99%. After that, the separation effect keeps getting better but very slowly. In the CsTFL1 deletion plants (CsTFL1del ), determinate growth could be partially rescued by high-temperature and long-day conditions. The expressions of CsTFL1 and its ortholog CsTFL1d could be upregulated by long-day and high-temperature signals. Knockdown of CsTFL1d resulted in determinate growth and the formation of terminal flowers in WT. These results indicate that the induction of CsTFL1d expression by long-day and high-temperature might partially rescue determinate growth of CsTFL1del . Furthermore, biochemical analyses showed that CsTFL1d interacts directly with CsNOT2a, which indicated that CsTFL1d and CsTFL1 function via similar regulatory mechanism. The purpose of this study is to develop an approach to estimate attenuation maps directly from SPECT emission data using deep learning methods. METHODS Both photopeak window and scatter window SPECT images were used as inputs to better utilize the underlying attenuation information embedded in the emission data. The CT-based attenuation maps were used as labels with which cardiac SPECT/CT images of 65 patients were included for training and testing. We implemented and evaluated deep fullon correction for SPECT-only scanners for myocardial perfusion imaging.Epileptic seizures associated with hyperglycemia have a rare but characteristic MR imaging pattern which however is frequently missed. MATERIALS AND METHODS In 30 healthy normal-hearing subjects, postural regulation and stability was measured with the Interactive Balance System (IBS; Inc. neurodata GmbH, Wien, Österreich) in 8 test positions with noise (frontal presentation) and plugged without noise. The IBS is an electrophysiological measurement device that measures postural control at the product level (e.g., stability, weight distribution) and the mechanisms of postural subsystems at the process level based on frequency-oriented fast-Fourier analysis of force-time relation. RESULTS At the process level, we found a relevant reduction (ηp2 ≥ 0.10) of postural regulation with noise in the frequency bands F1 (visual and nigrostriatal system ηp2 = 0.122) and F2-4 (peripheral vestibular system ηp2 = 0.125). At the product level, the weight distribution index (WDI) parameter showed a relevant increase with noise (ηp2 = 0.159). No difference between the auditory conditions was found for postural stability (parameter stability indicator, ST). Substantial interindividual variations in the subjective estimation of the influence of auditory inputs on stability were observed. CONCLUSION In this study, a shift in the activity of postural subsystems was observed with auditory input, while no difference was seen in ST. The IBS is an electrophysiological measurement device that measures postural control at the product level (e.g., stability, weight distribution) and the mechanisms of postural subsystems at the process level based on frequency-oriented fast-Fourier analysis of force-time relation. RESULTS At the process level, we found a relevant reduction (ηp2 ≥ 0.10) of postural regulation with noise in the frequency bands F1 (visual and nigrostriatal system ηp2 = 0.122) and F2-4 (peripheral vestibular system ηp2 = 0.125). At the product level, the weight distribution index (WDI) parameter showed a relevant increase with noise (ηp2 = 0.159). No difference between the auditory conditions was found for postural stability (parameter stability indicator, ST). Substantial interindividual variations in the subjective estimation of the influence of auditory inputs on stability were observed. CONCLUSION In this study, a shift in the activity of postural subsystems was observed with auditory input, while no difference was seen in ST. In this paper, an improved optimization algorithm (GSP_SVM) is proposed by combining genetic algorithm, particle swarm optimization and simulated annealing with support vector machine algorithm. The results show that the classification accuracy, MCC, AUC and other indicators have reached a very high level. By comparing with other optimization algorithms, it can be seen that this method can provide effective support for decision-making of breast cancer auxiliary diagnosis, thus significantly improving the diagnosis efficiency of medical institutions. Finally, this paper also preliminarily explores the effect of applying this algorithm in detecting and classifying breast cancer in different periods, and discusses the application of this algorithm to multiple classifications by comparing it with other algorithms.Anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty (ATSA) is widely used to treat the diseases of the glenohumeral (GH) joint. However, the incidence of rotator cuff tears after ATSA increases during follow-up. The effects of rotator cuff deficiencies after ATSA on the biomechanics of the GH joint are to be investigated. In this study, a musculoskeletal multibody dynamics model of ATSA was established using a force-dependent kinematics (FDK) method. The biomechanical effects were predicted during arm abduction under different rotator cuff deficiencies. The deltoid forces were increased under the rotator cuff deficiencies, the maximum deltoid forces were increased by 36% under the subscapularis deficiency and by 53% under the supraspinatus, infraspinatus, subscapularis, and teres minor deficiencies. The maximum GH contact forces were decreased by 11.3% under supraspinatus and infraspinatus deficiencies but increased by 24.8% under subscapularis deficiency. The maximum subscapularis force was decreased by 17% under only infraspinatus tear during arm abduction.

We herein present a case of gastric involvement secondary to pancreatic cancer in a 74-year-old woman in whom the metastatic lesion only presented as mucosal erosion in the stomach. The patient had a 1-month history of progressive right upper quadrant pain before admission. Computed tomography and endoscopic examinations revealed a solid and hypo-enhancing mass in the head of the pancreas. The patient underwent conventional upper endoscopy before pancreatic biopsy, and mucosal erosion was observed in the gastric pylorus. We obtained gastric and pancreatic biopsies by gastroscopy and endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration, respectively. Pathologically, the biopsies taken from the area of gastric erosion showed poorly differentiated invasive adenocarcinoma that was morphologically consistent with the pancreatic specimens. Moreover, the gastric section showed tumor thrombi within the vessels. Hence, the suspected diagnosis was unresectable pancreatic cancer with gastric metastasis. The patient immediately underwent two courses of chemotherapy, but her condition rapidly deteriorated and she died 2 months later.This study examines the extent to which important personal characteristics of nursing home residents affect the well-being of caregivers, as reflected in their levels of work-related positive and negative affect. To do this, we applied the Job Demands-Resources model to the analysis of caregivers' work-related well-being by focusing on residents' residual cognitive capacity and their perceived adequacy of resources. A multiple regression analysis was carried out based on combined data from a sample of 1080 caregivers and 290 residents from 13 nursing homes in Italy. Predictors of caregivers' positive and negative well-being included job characteristics such as workload and social support. As expected, residents' perceived adequacy of resources was positively related to caregivers' well-being positive affect. Unexpectedly, residents' residual cognitive capacity was associated with higher rather than lower levels of caregivers' well-being negative affect. The quality of the interaction between residents and caregivers in nursing homes is contingent on their respective expectations and capabilities, and reciprocal perceptions of the outputs exchanged.

    Retrospective review of clinic notes of 30 patients, 15 prior to implementation of a standardised note template and 15 after implementation of the template. The number of the 21 Americas Hernia Society Quality Collaborative (AHSQC) variables which were present in the notes was recorded, as was the time that the consultation ended and the time that the note was submitted.

    Mean number of variables collected prior to implementation of the template was 5.9 ± 1.6 vs. 20 ± 0.4 after implementation (
    < 0.001). In the pre-implementation group, 20% of the notes were completed after the day of the visit, while all of the notes in the post-implementation group were completed on the same day as the visit (
