Atherosclerosis is a systemic disease affecting the coronary, carotid, and lower limb arteries. Cerebrovascular accidents and lower limb ischemia are devastating postoperative complications. We aimed to evaluate the role of non-selective routine arterial duplex scanning in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG).
This non-randomized clinical trial included 360 patients scheduled for elective isolated CABG who were divided into two groups low-risk (n = 180) and high-risk (n = 180). Both groups underwent preoperative carotid and lower limb ultrasound screening for associated arteriopathy.
16 (8.9%) patients and 22 (12.2%) patients showed ≥70% carotid artery stenosis while 11 patients (6.1%) and 20 patients (11.1%) showed ≥50% lower limb arterial stenosis in the low-risk group and the high-risk group, respectively; though the difference was not statistically significant in both the cases (p > 0.1).
Routine preoperative peripheral arterial screening by sonography is a feasible and effective strategy to avoid unnecessary post CABG complications.

Investigation of physical activity and dietary behaviors across locations can inform "setting-specific" health behavior interventions and improve understanding of contextual vulnerabilities to poor health. This study examined how physical activity, sedentary time, and dietary behaviors differed across home, school, and other locations in young adolescents.
Participants were adolescents aged 12-16 years from the Baltimore-Washington, DC and the Seattle areas from a larger cross-sectional study. Participants (n = 472) wore an accelerometer and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) tracker (Mean days = 5.12, SD = 1.62) to collect location-based physical activity and sedentary data. Participants (n = 789) completed 24-h dietary recalls to assess dietary behaviors and eating locations. Spatial analyses were performed to classify daily physical activity, sedentary time patterns, and dietary behaviors by location, categorized as home, school, and "other" locations.
Adolescents were least physically active at home (based on the location/environment they were in. Although dietary behaviors were generally more favorable in the home and school locations, physical activity was generally low and sedentary time was higher in these locations. Health behavior interventions that address the multiple locations in which adolescents spend time and use location-specific behavior change strategies should be explored to optimize health behaviors in each location.

To investigate the effect of remifentanil-based fast-track anesthesia on analgesia and sedation after transthoracic device closure of ventricular septal defects (VSDs) in adult patients.
A retrospective analysis was performed on 59 patients aged 21-53 years who underwent transthoracic device closure of VSDs from January 2019 to September 2019. Failing to account for the resources required to successfully implement public health interventions can lead to an underestimation of costs and budget impact, optimistic cost-effectiveness estimates, and ultimately a disconnect between published evidence and public health decision-making.
We developed a conceptual framework for assessing implementation costs. We illustrate the use of this framework with case studies involving interventions for tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS in resource-limited settings.
Costs of implementing public health interventions may be conceptualized as occurring across three phases design, initiation, and maintenance. In the design phase, activities include developing intervention components and establishing necessary infrastructure (e.g., technology, standard operating procedures). Initiation phase activities include training, initiation of supply chains and quality assurance procedures, and installation of equipment. Implementation costs in the maintenance phase include ongoing tecsts enables more realistic estimates of budget impact and cost-effectiveness and provides important insights into program feasibility, scale-up, and sustainability. Assessment of implementation costs should be planned prospectively and performed in a standardized manner to ensure generalizability.
To summarize our experience of endovascular treatment for abdominal aorta saddle embolism (ASE) through percutaneous mechanical thrombectomy (PMT).
Clinical data of three ASE patients treated with an endovascular approach using percutaneous mechanical thrombectomy (PMT) were reviewed and analyzed.
After PMT, blood flow of limbs was restored in all of the three patients. However, two patients died from sudden cardiac arrest caused by hyperkalemia several hours after the procedure. The other one patient survived through continuous renal replacement therapy, which was initialized shortly after the surgical procedure.
Endovascular treatment through PMT can quickly restore blood flow in the ASE patients. Blood purification through renal replacement therapy is crucial to reduce mortality after restoring blood flow of the limbs.

It outlines how MOSAIQ oncology information systems (OIS) have enabled the university to embed hands-on IGRT image matching on a range of clinical cases. The hands-on exposure to case-based planar and volumetric kilovoltage (kV) image matching has resulted in improved teaching and better preparation of students for clinical IGRT encounters. Students are likely to benefit from critical image assessment and decision-making as well as the improved engagement in teaching and learning.This study describes a simple method for the large-scale isolation of pure Toxoplasma gondii tachyzoites and bradyzoites. T. gondii tachyzoites were obtained from infected human foreskin fibroblasts (HFFs) and peritoneal exudates of ****, while tissue cysts containing bradyzoites were collected from chronically infected ****. Harvested cells and brain tissues were incubated in Hanks balanced salt solution (HBSS), containing 0.25% trypsin and 0.5% taurodeoxycholic acid (TDC) for 5 min. Otitis externa (OE), one of the most common ear diseases in dogs, is caused by bacterial pathogens such as Staphylococcus sp. To understand the network of microbial communities in the canine ear canal affected with OE, we performed a cross-sectional study using next-generation sequencing.
Ear swab samples were collected from 23 OE-affected and 10 healthy control dogs, and the 16S rRNA gene sequenced using Illumina MiSeq. The otic microbiota in the OE-affected dogs showed significantly decreased alpha diversity compared to controls. The community composition also differed in the affected group, with significantly higher relative abundance of the phylum Firmicutes and the genus Staphylococcus (P=0·01 and 0·04 respectively). Contrary to our expectations, the severity of the disease did not impact the otic microbiota in OE-affected dogs.

Standardization of robotic oesophagectomy can benefit both patients and surgeons by decreasing complications, shortening the learning curve and improving surgical training.
Thoraco-abdominal oesophagectomy with lymphadenectomy is the cornerstone of curative therapy for oesophageal carcinoma. To reduce post-operative morbidity, minimally invasive technology has become increasingly established. Conventional thoraco-laparoscopic procedures, however, are limited by their technical feasibility. These limitations can be overcome using robot-assisted technology.
Robotic Ivor-Lewis oesophageal resection has gradually been implemented in our clinic from 2013. We have performed over 250 robot-assisted minimally invasive oesophagectomies and more than 2000 robotic procedures overall. This experience allowed us to establish a standardized operative technique.
We identified 11 operative steps as key elements for oesophageal resection, which should help implementation of this technique and allow surgeons to approach this complex procedure with greater confidence.

Stride length during a pitch did not significantly correlate with the pitcher's body height, lower extremity length, and maximal open legs' width. [Conclusion] A longer stride length contributes to a higher ball velocity in collegiate baseball pitchers.[Purpose] This study aimed to clarify the relationship between throwing distance and competitive performance in Boccia players in order to establish a training program based on this evidence. [Participants and Methods] In total, 40 athletes, who competed in the Japan Boccia Championships and are certified players of the Japan Boccia Association, participated in the study. Participants threw the Boccia ball as far as possible, and throwing distances were compared between certified players (Group I, n=8), those who participated in the final round (Group II, n=9), and those who lost in the preliminary round (Group III, n=23). [Results] The maximum throwing distances were 16.38 ± 5.17 m (Group I), 10.67 ± 2.66 m (Group II), and 8.34 ± 2.73 m (Group III). Group I threw the ball significantly farther than Groups II and III. [Conclusion] Boccia is a target sport and throwing farther distances requires more effort. In addition, being able to throw at a longer distance means that Boccia players can throw a stronger ball and use this for various tactics. The results of this study suggest that long-distance throwing training would be effective in improving the competitive performance of Boccia players.[Purpose] Active unilateral knee extension in sitting (AUKEiSit) is a clinical test for lumbopelvic control during limb movements. We aimed to identify the normal upper limit for the angle of lumbopelvic sagittal alignment (θ) during AUKEiSit in young females. [Participants and Methods] The primary inclusion criteria of the participant included asymptomatic females 18-44 years of age. Lumbopelvic curvature from T12 to S2 was traced on paper using a flexible ruler during right AUKEiSit. Stride length during a pitch did not significantly correlate with the pitcher's body height, lower extremity length, and maximal open legs' width. [Conclusion] A longer stride length contributes to a higher ball velocity in collegiate baseball pitchers.[Purpose] This study aimed to clarify the relationship between throwing distance and competitive performance in Boccia players in order to establish a training program based on this evidence. [Participants and Methods] In total, 40 athletes, who competed in the Japan Boccia Championships and are certified players of the Japan Boccia Association, participated in the study. Participants threw the Boccia ball as far as possible, and throwing distances were compared between certified players (Group I, n=8), those who participated in the final round (Group II, n=9), and those who lost in the preliminary round (Group III, n=23). [Results] The maximum throwing distances were 16.38 ± 5.17 m (Group I), 10.67 ± 2.66 m (Group II), and 8.34 ± 2.73 m (Group III). Group I threw the ball significantly farther than Groups II and III. [Conclusion] Boccia is a target sport and throwing farther distances requires more effort. In addition, being able to throw at a longer distance means that Boccia players can throw a stronger ball and use this for various tactics. The results of this study suggest that long-distance throwing training would be effective in improving the competitive performance of Boccia players.[Purpose] Active unilateral knee extension in sitting (AUKEiSit) is a clinical test for lumbopelvic control during limb movements. We aimed to identify the normal upper limit for the angle of lumbopelvic sagittal alignment (θ) during AUKEiSit in young females. [Participants and Methods] The primary inclusion criteria of the participant included asymptomatic females 18-44 years of age. Lumbopelvic curvature from T12 to S2 was traced on paper using a flexible ruler during right AUKEiSit. To evaluate to which extent the new volume coverage method can be used to visualize cerebrospinal fluid and reduce the need for anesthesia in children.
We assessed 30 children ages 6years and younger with suspected or proven hydrocephalus, hygroma or macrocephalus using volume coverage sequences with 20 slices per second in three planes. If necessary, a parent was placed in the bore together with the child for calming and gentle immobilization. We compared visualization of cerebrospinal fluid spaces and course of the shunt catheter in volume coverage sequences vs. fast spin-echo sequences.
The clinical issue could be sufficiently assessed in all children with use of volume coverage sequences, whereas conventional fast spin-echo sequences performed moderately to poorly. Visualization of the tip of a shunt failed in 16% of volume coverage scans and 27% of turbo spin-echo scans. A subsequent examination under anesthesia was never necessary. None of the examinations had to be stopped prematurely.

In this paper, we report the subtlety and stringency involved in the interaction of sterols with the serotonin1A receptor. For this, we utilized two immediate biosynthetic precursors of cholesterol, 7-dehydrocholesterol (7-DHC) and desmosterol, which differ with cholesterol merely in a double bond in their chemical structures in a position-dependent manner. We show that whereas 7-DHC could not support the ligand binding function of the serotonin1A receptor in live cells, desmosterol could partially support it. Importantly, depletion and enrichment of membrane cholesterol over basal level resulted in an increase and reduction of the basal receptor activity, respectively. These results demonstrate the relevance of optimal membrane cholesterol in maintaining the activity of the serotonin1A receptor, thereby elucidating the relevance of cellular cholesterol homeostasis.
Transarterial embolisation (TAE) is an effective intervention for management of arterial haemorrhage associated with pelvic fracture. However, its effects on survival and clinical outcomes are unclear.
Trauma patients with survival data between November 2015 and December 2019 were identified using a trauma database. Patients were divided between TAE and non-TAE groups, and a propensity score was developed using multivariate logistic regression. Survival at 28days was compared between the groups after propensity score matching.
Among 881 patients included in this study, 308 (35.0%) were treated with TAE. After propensity score matching, 130 pairs were selected. Survival at 28days was significantly higher among patients treated with TAE than among those treated without TAE [122 (93.9%) vs. 112 (86.2%); odds ratio = 2.45; 95% CI 1.02-5.86; p = 0.039].
TAE use was associated with improved survival at 28days in patients with pelvic fracture and should therefore be considered in the management of severely injured patients with pelvic fracture.

The ESTIMATE algorithm was used to evaluate the immune score of ccRCC cases from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). Differentially expressed genes between high and low immune scores were identified and a 13-gene signature was constructed by the LASSO Cox regression model to predict overall survival (OS) for ccRCC cases in TCGA or International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC) project. The immune cell fractions were calculated by the TIMER algorithm. Cell viability and gene expression were determined by CCK-8 and qRT-PCR, respectively.
The OS of patients with high immune scores was worse than that of patients with low immune scores. The OS between ccRCC patients from TCGA or ICGC cohort in high- and low-risk groups stratified by the gene signature was significantly different. Subgroup analysis also showed a robust prognostic ability of the gene signature. Multivariate Cox regression analysis demonstrated that this gene signature was an independent prognostic factor. The nomogram that integrated the gene signature and three clinicopathological risk factors had a favorably predictive ability in predicting 3, 5 and 10 year survival. Moreover, the high-risk group had a significantly higher abundance of B cell, T cell, CD4, neutrophil and DC infiltration. Among 13 genes, X-C motif chemokine receptor1 (XCR1) was upregulated in ccRCC cells and exerted an inhibitory effect on cell proliferation.

Thus, hepcidin (Hp) and ferroportin (Fpn) are molecules that regulate and maintain the metabolism of iron. A peptide hormone hepcidin limits recycled and stored iron fluxes in macrophage and hepatic hepatocyte, respectively, to the blood stream by promoting degradation of the only iron exporter, Fpn, in the target cells. Moreover, the inflammatory microenvironment of breast cancer and altered hepcidin/ferroportin pathway is intimately linked. Breast cancer exhibits an iron seeking phenotype that is accomplished by tumor-associated macrophage (TAM). Because macrophages contribute to breast cancer growth and progression, this review will discuss TAM with an emphasis on describing how TAM (M2Ф phenotypic) interacts with their surrounding microenvironment and results in dysregulated Hp/Fpn and pathologic accumulation of iron as a hallmark of its malignant condition. Moreover, the underlying stroma or tumor microenvironment releases significant inflammatory cytokines like IL-6 and bone morphogenetic proteins like BMP-2 and 6 leading in aberrant Hp/Fpn pathways in breast cancer. Inflammation is primarily associated with the high intracellular iron levels, deregulated hepcidin/ferroportin pathway, and its upstream signaling in breast cancer. The tumor microenvironment has a crucial role in the local immune r09esponse. The communication between intrinsic and extrinsic components of IBC and the abundance of cytokines and chemokines in the TME strongly contribute to the aggressiveness and high angiogenic potential of this tumor. MicroRNA-21 (miRNA-21) has been described as one of the most significantly upregulated miRNAs in human breast cancer. However, limited knowledge exists on miRNA-21 expression in breast cancer tissue after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC).
The aim of this study was to assess miRNA-21 expression in the tumor tissues of Brazilian patients with breast cancer who underwent NAC and its correlation with clinicopathological variables.
Utilizing qRT-PCR, miRNA-21 expression in tumor tissue was measured in a cohort of female patients with breast cancer who underwent NAC. The correlation of miRNA-21 expression with breast cancer molecular subtypes and other clinicopathological variables was also assessed.
A total of 55 patients were included in the study, and 28 (50.9%) underwent NAC. miRNA-21 was upregulated in patients with breast cancer, regardless of previous exposure to chemotherapy, molecular subtypes, tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) staging and lymph node status of the axilla. miRNA-21 expression did not differ between patients with breast cancer who achieved a pathologic complete response after NAC and healthy controls.

Moreover, the inflammatory microenvironment of breast cancer and altered hepcidin/ferroportin pathway is intimately linked. Breast cancer exhibits an iron seeking phenotype that is accomplished by tumor-associated macrophage (TAM). Because macrophages contribute to breast cancer growth and progression, this review will discuss TAM with an emphasis on describing how TAM (M2Ф phenotypic) interacts with their surrounding microenvironment and results in dysregulated Hp/Fpn and pathologic accumulation of iron as a hallmark of its malignant condition. Moreover, the underlying stroma or tumor microenvironment releases significant inflammatory cytokines like IL-6 and bone morphogenetic proteins like BMP-2 and 6 leading in aberrant Hp/Fpn pathways in breast cancer. The aggressive behavior, resistance to chemotherapy, angiogenesis, and high metastatic potential are key intrinsic characteristics of IBC caused by many specific factors. Pathogenesis and behavior of IBC are closely related to tumor surrounding inflammatory and immune cells, blood vessels, and extracellular matrix, which are all components of the tumor microenvironment (TME). The tumor microenvironment has a crucial role in the local immune r09esponse. The communication between intrinsic and extrinsic components of IBC and the abundance of cytokines and chemokines in the TME strongly contribute to the aggressiveness and high angiogenic potential of this tumor. Critical modes of interaction are cytokine-mediated communication and direct intercellular contact between cancer cells and tumor microenvironment with a variety of pathway crosstalk. This review aimed to summarize current knowledge of predictive and prognostic biomarkers in IBC. Utilizing qRT-PCR, miRNA-21 expression in tumor tissue was measured in a cohort of female patients with breast cancer who underwent NAC. The correlation of miRNA-21 expression with breast cancer molecular subtypes and other clinicopathological variables was also assessed. To compare the scanning laser ophthalmoscopy (SLO), optical coherence tomography (OCT), and fluorescein angiography (FA) findings in retrievers with a single unilateral circular retinal plaque to those of an English springer spaniel with bilateral retinal dysplasia.
A retrospective record review identified three dogs with circular retinal plaques that underwent SLO and OCT; in two of the three dogs, FA was also completed. Morphologic changes, lesion measurements, and angiogram characteristics were documented. An English springer spaniel with bilateral retinal dysplasia that had undergone SLO, OCT, and FA was used for comparison.
Scanning laser ophthalmoscopy of the retriever dogs revealed circular retinal plaques with a dark periphery located in the tapetal retina. OCT revealed a thickening of the nerve fiber layer corresponding to the circular pattern observed on SLO. Within the circular plaque, the retina was predominantly of normal architecture. FA revealed variable hypofluorescence of both the rim and the center of the circular lesion throughout the early angiogram phases. In the late recirculation phase, small multifocal areas of hyperfluorescence were observed. OCT of geographic retinal dysplasia in the English springer spaniel revealed disorganization of both inner and outer retinal layers, and retinal detachment.

We have prepared and characterised a series of site-selectively fluorinated cellodextrins with different degrees of fluorination and substitution patterns by chemoenzymatic synthesis. Bearing in mind the potential disruption of the hydrogen-bond network of cellulose II, we have prepared and characterised a multiply 6-fluorinated cellodextrin. In addition, a series of single site-selectively fluorinated cellodextrins was synthesised to assess the structural impact upon the addition of one fluorine atom per chain. The structural characterisation of these materials at different length scales, combining advanced NMR spectroscopy and microscopy methods, showed that a 6-fluorinated donor substrate yielded multiply 6-fluorinated cellodextrin chains that assembled into particles presenting morphological and crystallinity features, and intermolecular interactions, that are unprecedented for cellulose-like materials.
To develop a method for continuous online dose accumulation during irradiation in MRI-guided radiation therapy (MRgRT) and to demonstrate its application in evaluating the impact of internal organ motion on cumulative dose.
An intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) treatment plan is partitioned into its unique apertures. Dose for each planned aperture is calculated using Monte Carlo dose simulation on each phase of a four-dimensional computed tomography (4D-CT) dataset. Deformable image registration is then performed both (a) between each frame of a cine-MRI acquisition obtained during treatment and a reference frame, and (b) between each volume of the 4D-CT phases and a reference phase. These registrations are used to associate each cine image with a 4D-CT phase. Additionally, for each 4D-CT phase, the deformation vector field (DVF) is used to warp the pre-calculated dose volumes per aperture onto the reference CT dataset. To estimate the dose volume delivered during each frame of the cine-MRI acquonstrate a technique suitable for continuous online dose accumulation during MRgRT. We address the synergistic effects of RNAi-mediated gene knockdown and inhibitors/chemotherapy agents to increase the sensitivity of CRC cells to common therapies. Finally, this review points new delivery systems/materials for improving the cellular uptake efficiency and reducing off-target effects of RNAi.
Deductive reasoning is a complex and poorly understood concept in the field of psychology. Many cognitive neuroscience studies have been published on deductive reasoning but have yielded inconsistent findings.
In this study, we analyzed collected data from 38 articles using a recently proposed activation likelihood estimation (ALE) approach and used conjunction analysis to better determine the intersection of the results of meta-analyses.
First, the left hemispheres in the inferior parietal lobule (Brodmann area 40 [BA40]), middle frontal gyrus (BA6), medial frontal gyrus (BA8), inferior frontal gyrus (BA45/46), caudate, and insula (BA47) were revealed to be significant brain regions via simple-effect analysis (deductive reasoning versus baseline). Furthermore, IFG, insula, and cingulate (the key neural hubs of the cingulo-opercular network) were highlighted in overlapped functional connectivity maps.
The findings of the current study are consistent with the view that deductive reasoning requires a succession of stages, which included decoding of linguistic information, conversion and correction of rules, and transformation of inferential results into conclusive outputs, all of which are putatively processed via a distributed network of brain regions encompassing frontal/parietal cortices, as well as the caudate and other subcortical structures, which suggested that in the process of deductive reasoning, the coding and integration of premise information is indispensable, and it is also crucial to the execution and monitoring of the cognitive processing of reasoning.

Public debates on legalization of same-sex marriage occurred in Taiwan since the latter half of 2016. Taiwanese people voted on same-sex marriage referendums on November 24, 2018. The aim of this Facebook online study was to examine the changes in rates of poor mental health status among Taiwanese people during the 23-month period of public debates on and referendums for legalizing same-sex marriage.
A two-wave internet survey was conducted using Facebook to gather information regarding mental health and attitudes toward same-sex marriage among 3286 participants (1456 heterosexual and 1830 nonheterosexul) in Wave 1 (one week after the first reading of the Marriage Equality Bill) and 1370 participants (540 heterosexual and 830 nonheterosexul) in Wave 2 survey (one week after the referendum of same-sex marriage). The five-item Brief Symptom Rating Scale was used for assessing mental health status.
The rate of poor mental health status significantly increased from the Wave 1 to Wave 2 surveys in heterosexual, lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) participants. In nonherterosexual groups, the rates of poor mental health status increased in LGB and female and male nonheterosexual participants of all age. The rates of poor mental health status also increased in heterosexual participants who were female, were young, and supported same-sex marriage.

Although vaccination coverage is high in Kenya relative to other African nations, undervaccinated children remain, making it important to identify characteristics of these children and their caregivers. Potentially relevant but understudied factors are women's empowerment and early marriage. Women who marry older and have more autonomous decision-making authority may be better able to ensure their children receive health services, including immunizations. This analysis examines the relationship between early marriage and multiple dimensions of women's empowerment and child vaccination status in Kenya and explores whether these relationships are modified by wealth.

Participants were asked about religion in 1991-2007, and 100 data sets of religion were imputed for 2012 and 2017. In this multiple imputation analysis, binomial regression models output prevalence differences adjusted for wealth, education, child's sex, and mother's age. This study characterizes vaccine hesitancy in Shanghai and identifies disparities in vaccine safety and efficacy concerns by residency status-a marker for recent migration into the city.
Parents of children aged ≤18 years from immunization clinics in Shanghai were enrolled in summer 2019, with the data analyzed during winter 2019-2020. Differences in vaccine hesitancy by residency could lead to geographical and sociodemographic disparities in vaccination coverage and outbreaks of vaccine-preventable disease.

This study characterizes vaccine hesitancy in Shanghai and identifies disparities in vaccine safety and efficacy concerns by residency status-a marker for recent migration into the city. Parents of children aged ≤18 years from immunization clinics in Shanghai were enrolled in summer 2019, with the data analyzed during winter 2019-2020. A majority of parents expressed concerns about vaccine side effects (73.8%), vaccine safety (63.9%), and vaccine effectiveness (52.4%). Compared with locals, rural non-locals were more concerned about vaccine side effects (β=0.26, 95% CI=0.07, 0.46), vaccine safety (β=0.42, 95% CI=0.19, 0.65), and vaccine effectiveness (β=0.37, 95% CI=0.16, 0.58). Differences in vaccine hesitancy by residency could lead to geographical and sociodemographic disparities in vaccination coverage and outbreaks of vaccine-preventable disease. Using an energy-model network layout, we generate drug communities associated with specific, dominant drug properties. DrugBank confirms the properties of 59.52% of the drugs in these communities, and 26.98% are existing drug repositioning hints we reconstruct with our DDSN approach. The remaining 13.49% of the drugs seem not to match the dominant pharmacologic property; thus, we consider them potential drug repurposing hints. To assess these, ClinicalTrials.gov was queried for phase three clinical trials for patients with metastatic solid tumors, and the factors associated with TTR from enrollment completion to publication were analyzed. Based on the 319 included trials, cooperative-group-sponsored trials were reported at a slower rate than non-cooperative-group trials (median 37.5 vs. 31.0 months; p less then 0.001), while industry-funded studies were reported at a faster rate than non-industry-supported trials (31.0 vs. 40.0 months; p = 0.005). Furthermore, successful trials (those meeting their primary endpoint) were reported at a faster rate than unsuccessful studies (27.5 vs. 36.0 months; p less then 0.001). Multivariable analysis confirmed that industry funding was independently associated with a shorter TTR (p = 0.006), while cooperative group sponsorship was not associated with a statistically significant difference in TTR (p = 0.18). In SBBR, the nitrogen mass balance showed 74% of nitrogen removed by denitrification, 9% was removed through sludge wasting process, and 13% was removed in effluent at an SRT of 22 days and DO concentration of 3 mg/L. The t-test results suggest that the performance of SBBR was better than SBR in nitrogen and phosphorus removal at a 95% confidence interval.Two cases of recently diagnosed oesophageal squamous-cell carcinomas in men, both aged 72 years, are reported that resulted in rapid clinical deterioration and death from upper-airway occlusion and haemorrhage, respectively. In the first case, direct growth of the tumour from metastatic deposits in the paratracheal lymph nodes through the wall of the trachea resulted in lethal acute airway occlusion. In the second case, local extension of the tumour through the wall of the oesophagus into the adjacent aorta resulted in an aorto-oesophageal fistula which led to catastrophic and fatal haemorrhage. Although rare, oesophageal squamous-cell carcinomas may cause unexpected death due to quite different mechanisms, and result in the need for a detailed medico-legal assessment.A search was undertaken of the Forensic Science South Australia (FSSA), Australia, autopsy database over a 20-year period from 2000 to 2019 for all cases where vehicle crashes had involved kangaroos. There were six cases with an age range of 18-62 years (M=42 years) and a male-to-female ratio of 51. There were three crashes involving motor vehicles and three involving motorcycles. The three motor-vehicle crashes were initiated by impact with a kangaroo followed by a head-on crash with a truck (n=1) and a tree (n=2). In two of the motorcycle crashes, the cycle hit a kangaroo, resulting in the rider being unseated. In the third case, following impact with the animal, the cyclist hit a tree. In one of the latter cases, the only evidence of impact with a kangaroo was fur found by investigating officers adherent to the front-right indicator. Lethal injuries were located in the chest in six cases, the cranio-cervical region in five cases and the abdomen in three cases. Thus, in the majority of cases (n=5), death was due to multiple injuries. In the remaining case, death was caused by blunt chest trauma. This study shows that kangaroo-vehicle impacts may result in very significant blunt-force trauma. Motorcycle riders are particularly vulnerable. It may be only by careful examination of the vehicle/motorcycle for animal residues that the nature of the incident will be clarified.Problematic substance use has a significant impact on the health of a large proportion of people aged 65 years and older. This study explores the perspectives of older adults related to their substance use experiences, help-seeking and utilization of addiction treatment services. In-depth interviews were conducted with 11 seniors receiving addiction treatment in two area in Québec. Thematic analysis highlight that seniors' experiences, life contexts, and social participation influence their substance use. Help-seeking process can be triggered by realizing the extent of substance use, while barriers and facilitators shape this experience. Utilization of addiction treatment services was mainly perceived positively. Several characteristics and components of services enable seniors to have positive experiences. Substance use can be employed as an adaptation strategy to get through hardships or ease loneliness and boredom. Talking to people, such as family, friends or professionals, is important to older adults' developing trust and engaging in a process to change substance use habits. Based upon these results, clinical recommendations to take into account the complex needs of seniors seeking treatment and related to their social environment are formulated.This study aimed to assess kinematic and kinetic changes in front crawl with various stroke frequency (SF) conditions to investigate why swimming velocity (SV) does not increase above a certain SF (SFmax ). Eight male swimmers performed 20 m front crawl four times. The first trial involved maximal effort, whereas SF was controlled during the next three trials. The instructed SFs were 100 (T100%), 110 (T110%), and 120% (T120%) of the SFmax . Through pressure measurement and underwater motion analysis, hand propulsive force (calculated by the difference between the palm and dorsal pressure value and the hand area) and the angle of attack of the hand were quantified, and differences between trials were assessed by a repeated-measures ANOVA. There was no difference in SV between the conditions, while the angle of attack during the latter half of the underwater stroke at T120% was smaller by 25.7% compared with T100% (p = 0.007). The lower angle of attack induced a lower pressure value on the palm that consequently caused a smaller hand propulsive force at T120% than T100% (p = 0.026). Path analyses demonstrated that MST was related to poorer sexual function and lower satisfaction relative to the other traumas (χ2[28, N = 426] = 43.3, p = 0.03, CFI = 1.00, TLI = 0.99, and RMSEA = 0.04), and this association was mediated by higher non-somatic depressive symptoms and PTSD symptom clusters of anhedonia and negative alterations in cognition and mood (NACM). Causality cannot be inferred due to the cross-sectional nature of the data. However, our findings suggest that interventions aimed at decreasing sexual issues among female SM/Vs with MST should target depressogenic symptoms, whether the origin is depression or PTSD. Longitudinal research exploring the etiological processes that contribute to sexual dysfunction among those with MST is needed.

All breast cancer patients are discussed in a multidisciplinary meeting. All patients are triaged before starting on primary chemotherapy based on their specific challenges and beliefs and are consulted by the navigation team and contacted before the beginning of treatment and after each chemotherapy session by a navigator in the unit. This study aimed to compare the screening rate trends of mammography among New York State's lower-income women and the higher-income women from 1988 to 2010, and evaluate the potential influence of New York State's Breast Cancer Early Detection Program (introduced in 1994) on the mammography use rates of lower-income women.
Lower-income women are defined as women aged 40 and over whose household income is lower than 250% of the single member household federal poverty level (FPL) in the year that they participated in the survey. Higher-income women are defined as women aged 40 and over whose income is greater than 250% of the five-person household FPL. Data were obtained from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System. Interrupted time series analysis was conducted to examine screening rates before and after the launch of the Breast Cancer Early Detection program.
Among the lower-income women, the pre-intervention mammography screening rate significantly increased by an average of 15.21% every two years. However, after implementation of the Breast Cancer Early Detection Program, this rate of increase significantly slowed (slope change=-13.67, p=0.00016). The lower-income women and the higher-income women experienced a similar trend change after the intervention started.
This study found limited evidence that the Breast Cancer Early Detection Programme significantly contributed to the state-wide increase in mammography screening rate among lower-income women from 1988 to 2010. Future studies should examine the influence of structural and individual barriers inhibiting uptake of mammography screening among lower-income women.

The pandemic of COVID-19 has affected many aspects of life, and emotional symptoms have been reported to worsen during this time. Also, elective visits in the Breast Clinic have been cancelled or postponed based on the priorities defined in local and international guidelines. Our aim was to investigate the effect of these delays on the breast symptoms and emotional status of our patients.
We called patients whose appointments should have taken place between March and May 2020. After asking for their consent to participate in the study, we asked questions about their breast and emotional symptoms and any worsening of these due to cancellation of their schedules because of the COVID-19 outbreak. We also inquired the relation of breast symptoms with news and thoughts about COVID-19, and if the patients or their close relatives or friends had been affected by COVID-19. We compared the worsening of breast symptoms in patients with and without a positive self- or family history of COVID-19.
None of the breast or emotional symptoms had significantly got worse in the patients. Also, there was no significant difference between the two groups regarding the changes in their breast symptoms or emotional health.
We believe that these results might be evidence in favor of the Breast Clinic triage system, which conforms to most international and specifically to our local recommended strategies.

Megalocytivirus infection is a major threat in rock bream aquaculture in Korea. To produce a highly concentrated megalocytivirus, primary cells, established cell line and persistently infected cell line were used in this study. Megalocytivirus was inoculated in primary fin cell cultures of red sea bream (Pagrus major), rock bream (Oplegnathus fasciatus), olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) and black sea bream (Acanthopagrus schlegelii) and produced at similar concentrations of 108.99 - 9.88 viral particles/mL in all cultures while produced 107.31 viral particles/mL in grunt fin (GF) cell line. Since only red sea bream fin culture was amenable to subculturing for more than 100 times, it was established into Pagrus major fin (PMF) cell line. A persistently infected PMF cell line (PI-PMF) was obtained by continuous subculturing every 7 days as a batch culture system (PI-PMF-B) after infecting with megalocytivirus. Virus in supernatant of PI-PMF-B was maintained at high concentrations throughout over 50 consecutive subcultures in a relatively narrow range from 108.33 to 108.94 viral particles/mL with high level of CPE. For a more efficient and convenient production, a semi-batch culture system (PI-PMF-S) was developed in which culture media were exchanged at intervals of 3 days without subculturing for more than 50 media exchanges. Despite low virus productivity in a single cell (specific virus productivity, SVP), total cell number was increased in PI-PMF-S, allowing us to efficiently obtain a **** higher concentration of virus (108.56 to 109.75 viral particles/mL) than in PMF-B. This is the first study to report detailed new methods for continuous and efficient production of high concentrations of megalocytivivrus with characterization of viral propagation in persistently infected cells.
Ideal bone defect repair scaffolds should be biodegradable, biocompatible, bioactive, porous, and provide adequate mechanical support. However, it is challenging to fabricate such an ideal bone repair scaffold. Previously, we showed that 5 wt.% strontium-doped hydroxyapatite (Sr-HA) scaffolds prepared by spark plasma sintering (SPS) technology exhibited good biocompatibility. Moreover, unlike pure hydroxyapatite (HA) scaffolds, HA scaffolds containing strontium (Sr) exhibited superior bioactivity, higher proliferation rate of BMSCs and MG-63 osteoblast cells, as well as enhanced BMSCs differentiation.
In this study, we prepared pure HA scaffolds and 5 wt.% strontium containing Sr-HA scaffolds by SPS technology without adhesive, ammonium bicarbonate as pore former. Subsequently, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-Ray diffraction (XRD) were used to characterize the properties of Sr-HA and HA scaffolds. The ability of the scaffolds to repair bone defects was evaluated using a critical-sized rabbit tibiration of the host bone, and extensive woven bone was formed on the surface of the Sr-HA scaffolds. After 16 weeks, the bone strump became blunt and a small amount of callus was formed in the blank control group. Comparatively, the scaffolds were substantially degraded in the Sr-HA scaffolds implanted group while scaffolds shadows still were observed in the HA implanted group. Bone remodeling and cavity recanalization were completely developed in the Sr-HA scaffolds group. The compressive strength of repaired bone in the Sr-HA scaffolds implantation group was higher than that of HA scaffolds implantation group after 8 weeks and 16 weeks of surgery.

The inflammation was induced by the secreted form of glycoprotein B (gB1s) of HSV-1, in an ex vivo rabbit corneal model. α-SMA is often used as a marker for myofibroblasts. In this study, for the first time, we show α-SMA positive corneal epithelial cells, during HSV-1 cornea inflammation, demonstrating a crucial role in wound healing, especially during remodeling phase. Furthermore, we show the presence of Dendritic Cells Langerin CD/207 positive, located mainly in the basal epithelial layer and in corneal stroma during the inflammatory processes. Our result validating the ex vivo organotypic rabbit corneal model, for the study about pathogenesis of HSV-1 ocular infection.Bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) is a potentially useful biological product for bone regeneration. This study investigated whether BMAC can be enriched by local minor corticotomies. Five 4-month-old domestic pigs were used with each pig undergoing two minor corticotomies at one randomly-selected tibia. Two weeks after the operation, bone marrow was aspirated from both tibiae and processed into BMAC samples. The amount of mesenchymal stem cells (****) and the concentration of several regenerative growth factors contained in BMAC, as well as the proliferative and osteogenic differentiation capacity of ****, were compared between the corticotomy and the control sides. Another four weeks later, healing of the corticotomies was evaluated by radiographic and histological methods. The results demonstrated that BMAC from the corticotomy side contained significantly more **** than the control side. **** from the corticotomy side also proliferated significantly faster and tended to have stronger osteogenic differentiation than those from the control side.
