METHODS First, FGF-2 gene-modified hGMSCs were constructed using lentiviral transfection technology (LV-FGF-2+-hGMSCs) and the concentration of angiogenesis-related factors in LV-FGF-2+-hGMSC-CM was determined by ELISA. Then, human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were co-cultured for 3 days with LV-FGF-2+-hGMSC-CM, and the expression level of placenta growth factor (PLGF), stem cell factor (SCF), vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2) in HUVECs were determined by qRT-PCR, western blot, and cellular immunofluorescence techniques.

For decades, mathematical models have been used to predict the behavior of physical and biological systems, as well as to define strategies aiming at the minimization of the effects regarding different types of diseases. In the present days, the development of mathematical models to simulate the dynamic behavior of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is considered an important theme due to the quantity of infected people worldwide. In this work, the objective is to determine an optimal control strategy for vaccine administration in COVID-19 pandemic treatment considering real data from China. Two optimal control problems (mono- and multi-objective) to determine a strategy for vaccine administration in COVID-19 pandemic treatment are proposed. The first consists of minimizing the quantity of infected individuals during the treatment. The second considers minimizing together the quantity of infected individuals and the prescribed vaccine concentration during the treatment.
An inverse problem is formulaic, as well as essential elements for decision making in the economic and governmental spheres.Ceftriaxone is a third-generation cephalosporin, worldwide use as a first-line treatment for several infections, including life-threatening infections as meningitis or endocarditis. Nowadays, ceftriaxone use is changing, embracing high-dose schemes, new populations treated and requirement of dose individualization and optimization. These reasons warranted the development of new sensitive assays. This study aimed to develop and validate a fast and handy bioanalytical method for the quantification of ceftriaxone in human plasma covering a broad range of concentrations. The analysis was performed using high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry. Sample preparation was based on protein precipitation with acetonitrile followed by centrifugation. Chromatography separation was performed on Phenomenex Luna C18 column (5 μm, 150 × 2.0 mm) and a mobile phase consisting of 70 % of mobile phase A (10 mM of ammonium acetate and 1% formic acid in purified water) and 30 % mobile phase B (0.1 % formic acid in acetonitrile) at a flow rate of 500 μl/min on an isocratic program. Both the analyte and the internal standard were quantified using the positive electrospray ionization (ESI) mode within a single runtime of 5.00 min. The method was validated following the U.S. Food and Drug Administration guidelines over the concentration range of 3-1000 μg/mL. The within-run and between-run precision and accuracy were less then 15 %, and therefore met the standard regulatory acceptance criterion. In conclusion, a sensitive and robust LC-MS/MS method was developed for a fast quantitation of ceftriaxone concentrations in plasma samples with multiples applications in research and clinical therapeutic drug monitoring.
Antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) programs aim to optimize antibiotic use and reduce inappropriate prescriptions through a panel of interventions. The implementation of clinical guidelines is a core strategy of AMS programs. Nevertheless, their dissemination and application remain low. The final objective of this qualitative study is to 1) provide insights from end-users to assist in the design of the COMPASS CDSS, and to 2) help with the interpretation of the quantitative findings of the randomised controlled trial assessing the COMPASS CDSS, once data will be analysed.

A redox-probe-free system was applied for (i) SECM-based electroporation of a hBLM and for (ii) SECM-based visualization of pores formed by SECM-based electroporation in the hBLM. The hBLM was formed on a glass substrate modified by fluorine-doped tin oxide, and the structure (glass/FTO/hBLM) was used for further investigations. A specific 'constant-current region' at 1-30 µm distances between the UME and the hBLM surface was observed in the approach curves, which were registered while a Pt-based ultramicroelectrode (UME) was approaching the glass/FTO/hBLM surface. This 'constant-current region' was used as the characteristic feature for characterisation of the hBLM, and by assessment of the approach curves it was possible to distinguish whether an area of the hBLM was electroporated. SECM-based electroporation of the hBLM was performed by using increased potential difference between the reference electrode and the UME. Depending on the duration of the applied potential-pulse and on the distance between the UME and the hBLM surface, irreversible or reversible electroporation of the hBLM was achieved. The data shows that SECM can be successfully applied for both electroporation and characterisation of the hBLM.
To investigate the prognostic and predictive value of intraoperative blink reflex (BR) monitoring during microvascular decompression (MVD) for hemifacial spasm (HFS).
We retrospectively reviewed 41 patients with HFS undergoing MVD with intraoperative BR and lateral spread response (LSR) monitoring. Facial spasm was evaluated for six months postoperatively.
The BR resolved in 38 patients and persisted in three after MVD. For patients who exhibited BR resolution, 1-day, 1-month, and 6-month follow-ups revealed that 35 (92.1%), 35 (92.1%), and 38 (100%) patients had spasm resolution, respectively. However, of the three patients with persistent BR, one (33.3%), one (33.3%), and zero (0%) patients exhibited spasm resolution at the three corresponding follow-ups. We found a statistically significant difference in spasm resolution between the persistent and resolved BR groups at six months postoperatively. A comparison between intraoperative BR and LSR monitoring revealed that BR was a better predictor of clinical outcomes.

Anti-N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) encephalitis is an immune-mediated disease characterized by a complex neuropsychiatric syndrome in association with an antibody-mediated decrease of NMDAR. About 85% of patients respond to immunotherapy (and removal of an associated tumour if it applies), but it often takes several months or more than 1 year for patients to recover. There are no complementary treatments, beyond immunotherapy, to accelerate this recovery. Previous studies showed that SGE-301, a synthetic analogue of 24(S)-hydroxycholesterol, which is a potent and selective positive allosteric modulator of NMDAR, reverted the memory deficit caused by phencyclidine (a non-competitive antagonist of NMDAR), and prevented the NMDAR dysfunction caused by patients' NMDAR antibodies in cultured neurons. An advantage of SGE-301 is that it is optimized for systemic delivery such that plasma and brain exposures are sufficient to modulate NMDAR activity. Here, we used SGE-301 to confirm that in cultured neurons iogenic effects (memory, synaptic NMDAR, long-term potentiation) were prevented in the animals treated with SGE-301, despite this compound not antagonizing antibody binding. Additional investigations on the potential mechanisms related to these SGE-301 effects showed that (i) in cultured neurons SGE-301 prolonged the decay time of NMDAR-dependent spontaneous excitatory postsynaptic currents suggesting a prolonged open time of the channel; and (ii) it significantly decreased, without fully preventing, the internalization of antibody-bound receptors suggesting that additional, yet unclear mechanisms, contribute in keeping unchanged the surface NMDAR density. Overall, these findings suggest that SGE-301, or similar NMDAR modulators, could potentially serve as complementary treatment for anti-NMDAR encephalitis and deserve future investigations.
There is an increasing interest in the quality of life (QoL) evaluation following video-assisted thoracoscopic anatomical lung resection or stereotactic ablative body radiotherapy for early-stage non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). A qualitative interview study was conducted to gain insight into the optimal methods of assessing and discussing QoL in clinical practice.
A prospective observational longitudinal study of patients with early-stage NSCLC was conducted where repeated QoL measures were administered either online or on paper. A subset of participants was invited for qualitative interviews after the 6-month assessment or at the end of the study. The semi-structured interviews were transcribed verbatim and thematically analysed.
Twenty-three patients were interviewed. Generally, patients were content with recruitment and data collection procedures. Most opted to complete the assessments on paper instead of online; this choice was influenced by the level of technology literacy. Some found the questice.

Anti-N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) encephalitis is an immune-mediated disease characterized by a complex neuropsychiatric syndrome in association with an antibody-mediated decrease of NMDAR. About 85% of patients respond to immunotherapy (and removal of an associated tumour if it applies), but it often takes several months or more than 1 year for patients to recover. There are no complementary treatments, beyond immunotherapy, to accelerate this recovery. Previous studies showed that SGE-301, a synthetic analogue of 24(S)-hydroxycholesterol, which is a potent and selective positive allosteric modulator of NMDAR, reverted the memory deficit caused by phencyclidine (a non-competitive antagonist of NMDAR), and prevented the NMDAR dysfunction caused by patients' NMDAR antibodies in cultured neurons. An advantage of SGE-301 is that it is optimized for systemic delivery such that plasma and brain exposures are sufficient to modulate NMDAR activity. Here, we used SGE-301 to confirm that in cultured neurons iogenic effects (memory, synaptic NMDAR, long-term potentiation) were prevented in the animals treated with SGE-301, despite this compound not antagonizing antibody binding. Additional investigations on the potential mechanisms related to these SGE-301 effects showed that (i) in cultured neurons SGE-301 prolonged the decay time of NMDAR-dependent spontaneous excitatory postsynaptic currents suggesting a prolonged open time of the channel; and (ii) it significantly decreased, without fully preventing, the internalization of antibody-bound receptors suggesting that additional, yet unclear mechanisms, contribute in keeping unchanged the surface NMDAR density. Overall, these findings suggest that SGE-301, or similar NMDAR modulators, could potentially serve as complementary treatment for anti-NMDAR encephalitis and deserve future investigations. An extremely rare case of fibrolipoma in the hard palate is presented and discussed with reference to the literature. An 85-year-old woman visited the Tokyo Dental College Chiba hospital in September 2016 with the chief complaint of a mass in the hard palate. The patient had first become aware of this mass several years earlier. An examination at another hospital in June 2009 resulted in a clinical diagnosis of lipoma. Regular examinations followed every 6 months until September 2014, at which time she stopped attending these appointments because there was no change. In August 2016, however, the patient realized that the tumor was increasing in size. Although there was no pain, awareness of a foreign body in the oral cavity when eating or talking was increasing, so she decided to visit our clinic for detailed examination and treatment. At this point, the mass extended from the center to the left side of the hard palate. It measured 15 mm along the major axis, and had a clear border; nearly spherical, its surf date, at 18 months postoperatively, no recurrence has been observed and progress has been satisfactory.We report a case of generalized chronic periodontitis requiring periodontal treatment including regenerative therapy. The patient was a 57-year-old who man presented with the chief complaint of gingival swelling and mobile teeth in the right maxillary molar region. An initial examination revealed 55.3% of sites with a probing depth of ≥4 mm and 24.0% with bleeding on probing. Radiographic examination revealed vertical bone resorption in teeth #16, 17, 25, 26, 37, and 45; horizontal resorption was also noted in other areas. Based on a clinical diagnosis of severe chronic periodontitis, initial periodontal therapy consisting of plaque control, scaling and root planing, and caries treatment was performed. Both #16 and 17 were extracted due to bone resorption extending as far as the root apex. A removable partial denture was placed for #16 and 17, and a provisional restoration for #25 and 26. Surgical periodontal therapy was subsequently performed at selected sites. Periodontal regenerative therapy using enamel matrix derivative (EMD) with autogenous bone graft (ABG) was performed on #25 and 26. Other sites with residual periodontal pockets (#31, 32, 33, 36, 37, and 41) were treated by open flap debridement. Following reevaluation, full metal crowns (#25 and 26) and the removable partial denture were placed for #16, 17, 46, and 47. After further reevaluation, the patient was placed on supportive periodontal therapy (SPT). Periodontal regenerative therapy using EMD with ABG resulted in improvement in vertical bone resorption. This improvement has been adequately maintained over an 18-month period. The patient has continued to have some minor problems in occlusal contact and guidance following active therapy, however. Therefore, additional care will be necessary to maintain stable periodontal conditions during SPT.Many types of interdental instrument, such as dental floss and interdental brushes, can be purchased easily and sell in large numbers. Many studies have compared the effects of such instruments. Few studies have investigated their relationship with regions of residual plaque, however. The purpose of this study was to compare rates of plaque removal from the mesial and distal surfaces of the bilateral maxillary and mandibular premolars and molars among 3 types of interdental instrument finger-winding-dental floss, holder-type dental floss, and an interdental brush. Prior to the experiment, the artificial teeth in a jaw model were removed for application of artificial plaque. The teeth were then replaced and the model attached to a phantom. An operator brushed the teeth in a posture close to that adopted in actual tooth brushing with each type of instrument, after which the plaque removal rate was compared among them. The rate of plaque removal using finger-winding floss was the highest, although this type of instrument is less easy to hold than the others. The mean age of the participants was 22.9 (SD=5.2) years; 81.6% were women, and 37.6% studied during the morning shift. The mean STAI-S score was 50.3 (SD=9.4). Sleep problems, classified as "always" or "frequently", were reported by 11.3% and 18.4% of the sample, respectively. Quality of life had a mean score of 13.2 (SD=2.0). The STAI-S and SAQ scores showed a significant association with all WHOQOL-bref dimensions (p less then 0.05). Analyses performed using multivariate regression and the highest STAI-S score (RR=1.46, 95%CI=1.03-2.06) and SAQ (RR=1.39, 95%CI=1.02-1.90) demonstrated significant sleep problems, even when other variables were controlled to prevent confounding biases. Neck infections after neck dissection in oral cancer patients were investigated to elucidate the development of SSIs and their relationship with the results of bacterial culture.A total of 86 patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma who underwent neck dissection between January 2012 and December 2016 were enrolled. Ten factors were selected for investigation (1) sex; (2) age; (3) primary site; (4) type of dissection; (5) whether or not there was a new pathway of communication between the oral cavity and the neck; (6) operative time; (7) blood loss; (8) number of drainage days; (9) amount of drainage at the time of drain removal; and (10) whether or not there was an SSI.

The present study intended to investigate whether MPV on admission correlated with ST segment resolution following thrombolysis in STEMI patient. This cross-sectional analytical study was conducted in the department of cardiology, Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital (****), Mymensingh, Bangladesh from December, 2016 to June, 2018. Total 284 patients with first attack of STEMI were included after considering inclusion and exclusion criteria. Sample population was divided into two groups, Group I - Patients with successful ST segment resolution (≥50%). Group II - Patients with impaired ST segment resolution ( less then 50%). MPV on admission was estimated during estimation of Complete Blood Count (CBC) by Automated Haematology Analyzer & compared between two groups. Successful ST segment resolution (≥50%) was seen in 67% of patients after thrombolysis. Admission MPV was higher in patients with impaired ST segment resolution ( less then 50%) group than patients with ≥50% ST-segment resolution group (12.42±0.89fl vs.10.35±0.77fl respectively, p=0.001). Statistically significant strong negative correlation between MPV and ST segment resolution percentage (r = -0.742, p=0.001) suggesting that the higher the level of MPV, the lower the ST segment resolution percentage in first attack of STEMI patients. Multivariate regression analysis found MPV level on admission as an independent predictor of ST segment resolution. This cross-sectional analytical study was conducted in the department of cardiology, Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital (MMCH), Mymensingh, Bangladesh from December, 2016 to June, 2018. Total 284 patients with first attack of STEMI were included after considering inclusion and exclusion criteria. Sample population was divided into two groups, Group I - Patients with successful ST segment resolution (≥50%). Group II - Patients with impaired ST segment resolution ( less then 50%). MPV on admission was estimated during estimation of Complete Blood Count (CBC) by Automated Haematology Analyzer & compared between two groups. Successful ST segment resolution (≥50%) was seen in 67% of patients after thrombolysis. Admission MPV was higher in patients with impaired ST segment resolution ( less then 50%) group than patients with ≥50% ST-segment resolution group (12.42±0.89fl vs.10.35±0.77fl respectively, p=0.001). Statistically significant strong negative correlation between MPV and ST segment resolution percentage (r = -0.742, p=0.001) suggesting that the higher the level of MPV, the lower the ST segment resolution percentage in first attack of STEMI patients. Multivariate regression analysis found MPV level on admission as an independent predictor of ST segment resolution. Digital health technology may afford an array of functions, yet its potential to enhance AYA clinical preventive services is met with three key challenges. The challenges discussed in this review are the disconnectedness between digital health tools and clinical care, threats to AYA privacy and security, and difficulty identifying high-value digital health products for AYA. The data presented are synthesized in calls to action for the use of digital health technology to enhance clinical preventive services and to ensure that the digital health ecosystem is relevant, effective, safe, and purposed for meeting the health needs of AYA.

Technology can support the scaling of Youth-Led Participatory Action Research (YPAR), in which adolescents conduct research to improve issues that affect them. We present the first known published systematic review of the use of technology to scale YPAR.
A systematic review of the empirical literature was conducted from 2000 to 2018 using databases PsycARTICLES, PsycINFO, and PubMed. The review included peer-reviewed articles of YPAR studies involving adolescents (aged 10-19years) using technology for scaling. Appraisal of papers included the role of technology and consistency with YPAR principles.
Nine peer-reviewed YPAR publications focusing on a range of health issues with adolescents aged 11-19years were identified. Technology included Facebook (most common), Twitter, Instagram, Skype, e-mail, blogs, and personalized mapping applications. Overall, technology was primarily used for adolescent participants to gather data. The appraisal revealed the complexities inherent in conducting YPAR using technology across multiple sites, with different adults in supportive roles and varying levels of opportunities for adolescent engagement.
This review provides insights at the intersection of youth-led research and technology, highlighting opportunities in a changing technological landscape and the challenges of YPAR at scale.

In this review, we describe how laboratory analysis of cerebrospinal fluid is currently performed and discuss new approaches under development for multiple sclerosis diagnostics.Diagnostic genetic testing for spinal muscular atrophy is key in establishing early diagnosis for affected individuals. Prenatal carrier testing of parents with subsequent testing of the fetus for homozygous SMN1 gene deletion in those at risk of this autosomal recessive disorder as well as newborn screening can identify the vast majority of affected individuals before the onset of symptoms. Patients presenting symptomatically must be genetically confirmed as soon as possible because targeted treatments are now available that profoundly impact symptoms and improve quality of life.Growing regulatory burdens, payment model changes, and increased complexity in laboratory medicine have contributed to an increased reliance on reference laboratories. Although reference laboratories often offer rapid, low cost, high quality testing, outsourcing laboratory tests can create quality and patient safety vulnerabilities particularly in the pre-analytic and post-analytic phases of the test cycle. Disconnects in governance, policy, and information technology between the reference laboratory and the referring provider conspire to increase risk. Laboratory leaders seeking to reduce risk and improve quality must ensure clear and collaborative oversight, monitor meaningful quality metrics, and integrate feedback from ordering providers.Development of new diagnostic tests in a commercial laboratory for neurologic disorders is challenging. Development occurs in a highly regulated environment. Relevant research infrastructure may not be readily available in-house and may require outsourcing with additional management and costs. Clinically characterized specimens for validation of biomarkers for esoteric diseases may be difficult to acquire, and market size may be difficult to predict. More common diseases with heterogeneous subsets may require better clinical definition. Absence of guidelines may delay health provider acceptance of novel testing. In this article, we analyze recent trends in neurologic disease testing within the overall context of reference laboratory testing and discuss strategies to facilitate the provision of high-quality, cost-effective laboratory services.The recent discovery of several neuronal autoantibodies linked to neurologic syndromes that are fully or partially responsive to immunosuppressive therapy has revolutionized neuroimmunology and expanded the scope of classical paraneoplastic and antibody-related syndromes. Enrichment of bacteria capable of use hydrocarbon as carbon source seems to be fast regardless time of exposure or WAF concentrations. Our results suggest that chronic WAF exposure can cause a dysbiosis in this benthic native species from the GoM.Using rainbow wrasse as a model species, we evaluate the impact of protection on the relationship between body size and i) trophic position (TP), based on δ15N; and ii) body condition (**), based on weight-at-length. We found that the biomass of the rainbow wrasse, their predators and their competitors was higher inside the no-take marine protected area (NTA) than in the area open to fishing. The TP of rainbow wrasse was higher inside the NTA but the ** was lower. A domed relationship between TP and size was observed in both areas the TP increased with size up to 12.6 cm total length, when all individuals shifted to terminal males, and then decreased. Although other confounding environmental variables may exist, the indirect effects of fishing on competition and predation risk are the most likely explanation for the changes in TP, ** and the ontogenetic dietary shift of the rainbow wrasse.
Overcoming acquired resistance against targeted therapies to improve outcomes of lung cancer patients harboring driver mutations is a critical issue. While drug therapy oriented to a resistance mechanism appears attractive, spatial heterogeneity of resistance mechanisms in each patient will diminish treatment efficacy. However, the frequency, clinical backgrounds, clinical implications, and patterns of spatial heterogeneity in resistance mechanisms to EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) are largely unknown.
This study included 128 specimens from 24 autopsied patients with lung adenocarcinoma harboring EGFR mutation. Such measurements have performed in April 2020 during the Chernobyl wildfires period. A significant event recorded in Thessaloniki's atmosphere during April 12, 2020, with 25.7 ± 0.7 μBq m-3 of 137Cs, was measured. Besides, a minor incident with a lower 137Cs concentration of 9.6 ± 0.8 μBq m-3 has occurred on April 21, 2020. The above results resemble to a previous one noticed during winter 2013, when signals up to 12.1 ± 0.8 μBq m-3 of 137Cs detected in the atmosphere, due to extensive use of 137Cs contaminated wood for residential heating. The results obtained demonstrate that no radiation hazard rose for the general public due to inhalation of the 137Cs in the air of Thessaloniki, Greece. Despite the striking lack of overlap in CpGs, multi-omics analysis suggested five clocks (Horvath1, Horvath2, Levine, Hannum, and Lin) share transcriptional associations conserved across purified CD14+ monocytes and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex. The pathways enriched in the shared transcriptional association suggested links between epigenetic aging and metabolism, immunity, and autophagy. Results from in vitro experiments showed that two clocks (Levine and Lin) were accelerated in accordance with two hallmarks of aging-cellular senescence and mitochondrial dysfunction. The tumor continued to shrink and calcification within the tumor increased. We performed salvage surgery following which the tumor cells disappeared and necrosis and calcification were detected in the tumor. We concluded that if calcification develops within the tumor and tumor shrinkage is maintained after treatment with anti-PD-1 drugs, the calcification may be dystrophic owing to drug-induced tumor necrosis, and salvage surgery might be beneficial in removing the tumor. Methods Using a cross-sectional design a valid and reliable paper survey was administered during November and December of 2019. The target population for the study consisted of African American adult men (18 or older) that had not consumed recommended levels of fruits and vegetables within 24 hours of taking the questionnaire. A convenience quota sample of African American men from select barbershops in Jackson, Mississippi, were asked to complete the 40-item questionnaire on preventive health screening behavior (n=134). Results The mean total number of fruits and vegetables consumed by participants within 24hours of the taking the survey was 1.63 (SD =1.47). The mean intention to initiate consuming 5or more cups of fruits and vegetables per day score was 2.13 (SD=1.17) as measured on a 5-point scale (0-4). Behavioral confidence (β = 0.495, P less then 0.0001), and changes in physical environment(β = 0.230, P less then 0.0001) accounted for 40.8% of the variance in predicting the intention to initiate behavioral change regarding the daily consumption of fruits and vegetables. Practice for change (β = 0.462, P less then 0.001) and emotional transformation (β = 0.215, P less then 0.0001) accounted for 37.5% of the variance in the intention to sustain fruits and vegetables consumption behavior. This study evaluates how Nigerian media depict the coronavirus pandemic and how the depictions shape people's perception and response to the pandemic. Methods The study employed a quantitative design (newspaper content analysis and questionnaire). The content analysis examines the nature of media coverage of coronavirus in Nigeria and China using four major national newspapers (The Sun, The Vanguard, The Guardian and The Punch). The period of study ranged from January 2020 to March 2020. A total of 1070newspaper items on coronavirus outbreak were identified across the four newspapers and content-analysed. Results The finding shows that the coverage of the pandemic was dominated by straight news reports accounting for 763 or (71.3%) of all analysed items. This was followed by opinions 169(15.8%), features 120 (11.2%) and editorials 18 (1.7%) respectively. The Punch 309 (28.9%)reported the outbreak more frequently than The Sun 266 (24.9%), The Guardian 258 (24.1%), and Vanguard 237 (22.1%). Finding further suggests that the framing pattern adopted by the newspapers helped Nigerians to take precautionary measures. Conclusion Continuous reportage of COVID-19 has proved effective in creating awareness about safety and preventive measures thereby helping to 'flatten the curve' and contain the spread of the virus. However, generalizing the evidence to Iranian population - as a Middle Eastern society - might be questionable. We aimed to synthesize our evidence on the effectiveness of these interventions among Iranian populations. Methods This was a systematic review and meta-analysis. Persian and English literature were searched through Iran-doc, Elm-net, and PubMed until March 2019 using the following terms (or its Persian synonyms) chronic pain; persistent pain; chronic fatigue; fibromyalgia; neuropath*; LBP; irritable bowel; CFS; psycho*; cogniti*; acceptance; meaning; mindfulness; relaxation; biopsychosocial; rehabilitation; educat*. Eligible trials were randomized trials that evaluated the effectiveness of psychological interventions on Iranian adults with chronic pain. No setting restriction was considered. Risk of bias for each trial was assessed, and the random-effect model was used to pool summary effect across trials. Results In all 30 eligible RCTs, the risk of bias for randomization was low except for one study. The pooled standardized mean difference (SMD) for depression and anxiety were 1.33 (95%CI -1.42 to -0.68) and 1.25 (95% CI -1.55 to -0.96), respectively. Conclusion This study suggests that psychological interventions are highly effective in reducing depression and anxiety in Iranian patients with chronic pain, compared to what observed in the U.S. and European studies. However, there are still some methodological issues to be addressed. Future research should focus on high-quality trials with considerations on the methodological issues reported in the present study.

The pooled standardized mean difference (SMD) for depression and anxiety were 1.33 (95%CI -1.42 to -0.68) and 1.25 (95% CI -1.55 to -0.96), respectively. Conclusion This study suggests that psychological interventions are highly effective in reducing depression and anxiety in Iranian patients with chronic pain, compared to what observed in the U.S. and European studies. However, there are still some methodological issues to be addressed.
