Through the advances in remote sensing and computer vision, we can enable the regular inspection of the field and automated inflorescence counting enabling growers to optimize their management practices. Our work uses a deep learning-based density estimation approach to count the number of flowering pineapple plants in a field with a test MAE of 11.5 and MAPD of 6.37%. Notably, the computational complexity of this method does not depend on the number of plants present and therefore efficiently scale to easily detect over a 1.6 million flowering plants in a field. We further embed this approach in an active learning framework for continual learning and model improvement.Beige and Chediak Higashi (BEACH) domain proteins mediate membrane-dependent processes in eukaryotic cells. The highest efficiency was achieved at 200 μmol m-2 s-1, 24°C air temperature and 28°C root-zone temperature 44 g FW and 1.23 g DW per mol incident light. The effect of air temperature on fresh yield was linked to all leaf expansion processes. SLA, shoot mass allocation and water content of leaves showed the same trend for air temperature with a maximum around 24°C. The effect of root temperature was less prominent with an optimum around 28°C in nearly all conditions. With this combination of temperatures, market size (fresh weight shoot = 250 g) was achieved in 26, 20, and 18 days, at 200, 400, and 750 μmol m-2 s-1, respectively, with a corresponding shoot dry matter content of 2.6, 3.8, and 4.2%. Amygdalus pedunculata is an important eco-economic shrub species that promotes wind prevention, sand fixation as well as soil and water conservation. The natural regeneration of pure Amygdalus pedunculata forests is difficult to achieve because of its low seed germination rate and weak seedling growth. A stereo-complex ecosystem could potentially promote the germination and seedling growth of A. pedunculata and establish a steady mixed plantation consisting of trees and shrubs. Here, laboratory and pot experiments were conducted to assess the effect of four tree species on morphological and physiological indexes of A. pedunculata. The laboratory experiment showed that A. pedunculata seed germination and seedling growth from Yuyang County (YC-1) and Shenmu County (SC-6) were higher when plants were treated with the aqueous leaf extracts of Pinus sylvestris, Broussonetia papyrifera, and Pinus tabulaeformis comgs as well as for the construction of mixed plantations in coal mine degradation areas. Generally, this study provides new insight into the creation of stereo-complex ecosystems (P. sylvestris + A. pedunculata and B. papyrifera + A. pedunculata) in arid fragile environment.

To overcome the lack of a reliable approach for bypassing vacuolar degradation in plants, we herein present an endosome-escaping micelle. The micelle surface is dually modified with cell-penetrating (CPP) and endosome-disrupting peptides (EDP) and the core is composed of plasmid DNA condensed with cationic peptides. Due to the functions of CPP and EDP, the dual peptide-modified micelles efficiently undergo endocytic internalization and escape from endosomes to the cytosol, thereby achieving significantly enhanced transfection of intact plants with negligible cytotoxicity. The present study offers a robust strategy for efficient intracellular DNA delivery to plants without vacuolar degradation, and can facilitate plant bioengineering for diverse biotechnological applications.Although aqueous biphasic systems have been largely investigated in the separation and/or purification of biocompounds, their potential as reaction media to design integrated reaction-separation processes has been less explored. In this work aqueous biphasic systems (ABSs) composed of polypropylene glycol of molecular weight 400 g mol-1 (PPG 400) and different polyethylene glycols (PEGs) were characterized, and investigated for integrated reaction-separation processes, i.e. in the nucleophilic degradation of diazinon and further separation of reaction products by taking advantage of the lower-critical solution temperature (LCST) behaviour of these ABSs. The nucleophilic degradation of diazinon was carried out in the monophasic regime at 298 K, after which an increase in temperature (up to 313 K) allowed the product separation by two-phase formation (thermoreversible systems). The reaction kinetics and reaction pathways have been determined. The reaction kinetic increases as the PEG molecular weight decreases, with the half-life values obtained being competitive to those previously reported using volatile organic solvents as solvent media and significantly higher than under alkaline hydrolysis. One reaction pathway occurs in ABSs comprising PEGs of higher molecular weights, whereas in the ABS composed of PEG 600 two reaction pathways have been identified, meaning that the reaction pathways can be tailored by changing the PEG nature. ABSs formed by PEGs of lower molecular weights were identified as the most promising option to separate the pesticide degradation products by simply applying changes in temperature.Preserving the self-renewal capability of undifferentiated human neural stem cells (hNSCs) is one of the crucial prerequisites for efficient hNSC-based regenerative medicine. The bFGF-immobilized coGD surface substantially enhanced the proliferation rate and neurosphere forming ability of hNSCs compared to tissue culture plate (TCP). The expression of the stemness markers of hNSCs such as NESTIN and SOX-2 was also upregulated prominently on the coGD surface. Also, the hNSCs cultured on the coGD surface showed enhanced neurogenesis upon spontaneous differentiation. The immobilized bFGF on the coGD surface stimulated the expression of bFGF receptors and subsequently activated the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway, attributed to the increase in self-renewal property of hNSCs.     The aim of this study was to determine whether carbamide peroxide is effective in bleaching vital permanent teeth in children.

    A literature search was conducted using all keywords relevant to the research subject. The outcome measures were identified as colour change, tooth sensitivity, oral irritation and patient satisfaction. The certainty of evidence for each outcome was assessed using the current GRADE guidelines.

    Of 115 potentially relevant articles, 112 were excluded, as they did not exclusively involve children, intervention involved additional treatment such as microabrasion or restorative work, or case studies. Patient satisfaction was not assessed in the three articles so no analysis could be made with regards to this outcome. The GRADE assessment showed that all of the three articles demonstrated very low certainty of evidence for the other assessed outcomes. The overall findings from the studies suggest that a 10% carbamide peroxide overnight tray system is effective at bleaching vital permanent teeth in children and associated tooth sensitivity and oral irritation are found to be in a similar range compared to those reported in adult studies. However, due to the very low certainty of the evidence, it is not possible to draw these conclusions.

To compare different BMRs for certain ages, Metabolic age (Met-age) was developed.

    The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to compare the acute and chronic responses of lower body cluster, contrast, complex, and traditional training across a range of athletic performance outcomes (1-repetition maximum squat strength, jump height, peak power, peak force, peak velocity, and sprint time).

    A database search was completed (SPORTDiscus, Medline and CINAHL) followed by a quality scoring system, which concluded with 41 studies being used in the meta-analysis. Effect sizes were calculated for acute and training intervention changes compared to baseline. For acute cluster training, effect sizes were used to represent differences between equated traditional and cluster sets.

    Acutely, contrast and cluster training can be implemented to enhance and maintain velocity. Complex training does not acutely show a performance-enhancing effect on jump performance.
    Compared to patient's preferences, experts considered falls as a more important outcome of sarcopenia, while the outcomes fatigue and difficulties in domestic activities were considered as less important. The aim of this study was to determine whether carbamide peroxide is effective in bleaching vital permanent teeth in children. A literature search was conducted using all keywords relevant to the research subject. The outcome measures were identified as colour change, tooth sensitivity, oral irritation and patient satisfaction. The certainty of evidence for each outcome was assessed using the current GRADE guidelines. Of 115 potentially relevant articles, 112 were excluded, as they did not exclusively involve children, intervention involved additional treatment such as microabrasion or restorative work, or case studies. Patient satisfaction was not assessed in the three articles so no analysis could be made with regards to this outcome. The GRADE assessment showed that all of the three articles demonstrated very low certainty of evidence for the other assessed outcomes. The overall findings from the studies suggest that a 10% carbamide peroxide overnight tray system is effective at bleaching vital permanent teeth in children and associated tooth sensitivity and oral irritation are found to be in a similar range compared to those reported in adult studies. However, due to the very low certainty of the evidence, it is not possible to draw these conclusions. Increased obesity augments the risk of developing Metabolic Syndrome (MetS); however, an adult's healthy lifestyle, which increases BMR, can mitigate MetS development. We investigated whether personality in terms of emotion regulation abilities (ERA) moderates the relationship between stress-contingent HPA activity and accuracy of intuitive coherence judgments. Method ERA and cortisol responses to social-evaluative stress as induced by a variant of the Trier Social Stress Test were measured in N = 49 participants (32 female, aged 18 to 33 years, M = 22.48, SD = 3.33). Subsequently, in a Remote Associates Task they provided intuitive judgments on whether word triples, primed by either stress-reminding or neutral words, are coherent or not. Results Under relative cortisol increase participants low in ERA showed reduced performance whereas individuals high in ERA showed increased performance. By contrast, under conditions of low cortisol change, individuals low in ERA outperformed those high in ERA. Conclusion Personality can moderate the link between stress and cognition such as accurate intuition. This can happen to a degree that existing effects may not be become apparent in the main effect (i.e. without considering personality), which highlights the necessity to consider personality in stress research, ERA in particular. We discuss the findings with respect to individual differences in neurobehavioral mechanisms potentially underlying ERA and corresponding interactions with cognitive processing. We used a two-step approach proposed by Gollan and Brown (2006) to investigate the semantic and phonological retrieval deficits when tip-of-the-tongue occurs in young and older adults. Importantly, we controlled the inhibition ability in both older and young groups. In experiment 1 with a people pictures naming task, older adults produced more TOTs than young adults, and they suffered from phonological retrieval deficit rather than semantic retrieval deficit in speaking. In experiment 2 with a priming paradigm, participants were presented semantically related or phonologically related names before target pictures, which formed semantic or phonological priming conditions for lexical access. Compared with young adults, older adults showed a greater effect of phonological priming on decreasing TOTs occurrence. For semantic retrieval deficit, older adults exhibited a smaller phonological facilitation effect and a larger semantic interference effect than young adults. For phonological retrieval deficit, older adults presented a larger phonological facilitation effect in the first-name related priming condition than the first-syllable related priming condition, whereas young adults showed similar facilitation effects between the two phonological priming conditions. Our findings provide consistent evidence for the transmission deficit hypothesis, and highlight that aging affects bidirectional connections between semantic and phonological nodes in speech production. A total of 104 published articles on speaking assessment were collected and systematically analyzed within an argument-based validation framework (Chapelle et al., 2008). We examined how the published research is represented in the six inferences of this framework, the topics that were covered by each article, and the research methods that were employed in collecting the backings to support the assumptions underlying each inference. Our analysis results revealed that (a) most of the collected articles could be categorized into the three inferences of evaluation, generalization, and explanation; (b) the topics most frequently explored by speaking assessment researchers included the constructs of speaking ability, rater effects, and factors that affect spoken performance, among others; (c) quantitative methods were more frequently employed to interrogate the inferences of evaluation and generalization whereas qualitative methods were more frequently utilized to investigate the explanation inference. The paper concludes with a discussion of the implications of this study in relation to gaining a more nuanced understanding of task- or domain-specific speaking abilities, understanding speaking assessment in classroom contexts, and strengthening the interfaces between speaking assessment, and teaching and learning practices. Latent growth modeling, latent class growth modeling, general mixed modeling was conducted, and post hoc mixed ANOVA, Friedman test and Welch test analyses were examined. Students with high levels of cynicism (high-level group) and students with changing levels of cynicism (increasing group) perceived higher applicability of signature character strengths in private life compared to the study context.

  • Background Research has suggested ideal combinations of sleep, physical activity (PA) and sedentary time (ST) (i.e., optimal sleep/high PA/low ST) are associated with better overall health. Previous research has shown nurses spend more than half their day sedentary, do not generally meet PA guidelines and have difficulty obtaining adequate sleep. There has been no known work to examine how combinations of sleep, PA and ST relate to the work performance and mental health of nurses. Our objective was to assess the associations of sleep, PA and ST with absenteeism, mood states and shift work disorder (SWD) in a sample of Canadian nurses. Methods A total of 342 nurses from the Champlain Nurses' Study (mean age ± SD = 43 ± 12 years, 94% women) wore an ActiGraph GT3X accelerometer for ≥ 4 days for ≥ 10 h/day to derive time spent in moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity (MVPA) and ST and reported sleep time for ≥ 4 days using daily activity logs. Behavioural patterns were categorized into four groups for ours. Meeting PA guidelines was associated with significantly lower total mood disturbance versus not meeting guidelines (median [IQR] = 0.4 [4.5] vs. 1.3 [4.4], Z =  - 2.294, df = 1, p = 0.022), as well as lower anger, higher vigor and lower fatigue. Low ST was associated with lower POMS total mood disturbance scores versus higher ST (0.6 [4.4] vs. 1.4 [4.3], Z = 2.028, df = 1, p = 0.043), as well as higher vigor and lower fatigue. Conclusions In this sample of hospital nurses, the combined effects of sleep, PA and ST are associated with total mood disturbance and SWD. Achieving the recommended levels in all three behaviours may be beneficial in decreasing total mood disturbance and minimizing the effects of SWD. Future work is needed to address the low PA and high ST levels of nurses and to better understand how these behaviours can be improved to optimize the mental health of the health workforce. ©2020 Hajo et al.The Cameroon Volcanic Line, a mountain chain located between West and Central Africa, is a region of numerous endemic diversifications, including of puddle frogs (Phrynobatrachus). This study reviews the phylogeny and taxonomy of puddle frogs of the "Cameroon radiation," which is a clade containing mainly montane but also at least three lowland species. Molecular data revealed a novel evolutionary lineage from high altitudes in the northern part of the mountains. Puddle frogs from the new, minute-sized (SVL less then 20 mm) lineage are identified using molecular, morphological and acoustic data and described as two new species, Phrynobatrachus arcanus sp. nov. (Gotel Mountains, Cameroon-Nigeria) and P. mbabo sp. nov. (Tchabal Mbabo, Cameroon). The tadpole of the first species is also described. Phylogenetic analyses placed the new lineage to the proximity of the recently described lowland small-sized taxa (P. horsti, P. ruthbeateae). Based on the inferred phylogeny, we propose five species groups within the Cameroon radiation P. arcanus, P. chukuchuku, P. ruthbeateae, P. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/pdd00017273.html steindachneri, and P. werneri. The taxonomically enigmatic P. hylaios is proposed to be a member of the P. ruthbeateae species group. The basal radiation evolved during the late Miocene with subsequent diversifications occurring during the Pliocene, while closely related terminal taxa originated during the Pleistocene. We recommend that the newly described species are categorized as Critically Endangered due to their limited ranges and because recent surveys did not identify any individuals at the type localities. Information on the wide-ranging determinants of asthma prevalence among the population at risk can help policy makers to reduce risk. Objective The present study is a preliminary investigation of the environmental, socioeconomic and behavioral determinants of asthma prevalence in western Nepal. Methods A survey was conducted among 420 randomly selected households in western Nepal. A cross-sectional analytical study design was employed with the primary data using econometric tools of probit and logistic regression. Results Environmental variables such as extreme cold winter, deteriorating river water quality and air pollution were associated with an increase in asthma prevalence. However, individual or household characteristics such as advancing age of household head, use of pesticides in the home for the control of pests, piped drinking water with old pipes and lack of participation in awareness programs were associated with an increase in asthma prevalence. Discussion Among environmental factors, decreasing river water quality, increasing air pollution, and extremely cold winters are more likely to contribute to asthma prevalence. In light of the effects of environmental factors on the prevalence of asthma in Nepal, the high public and private costs of asthma could further impoverish the rural poor. Conclusions Environmental health policy makers should design adaptation strategies along with additional community programs addressing asthma-instigating factors.     Background Research has suggested ideal combinations of sleep, physical activity (PA) and sedentary time (ST) (i.e., optimal sleep/high PA/low ST) are associated with better overall health. Previous research has shown nurses spend more than half their day sedentary, do not generally meet PA guidelines and have difficulty obtaining adequate sleep. There has been no known work to examine how combinations of sleep, PA and ST relate to the work performance and mental health of nurses. Our objective was to assess the associations of sleep, PA and ST with absenteeism, mood states and shift work disorder (SWD) in a sample of Canadian nurses. Methods A total of 342 nurses from the Champlain Nurses' Study (mean age ± SD = 43 ± 12 years, 94% women) wore an ActiGraph GT3X accelerometer for ≥ 4 days for ≥ 10 h/day to derive time spent in moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity (MVPA) and ST and reported sleep time for ≥ 4 days using daily activity logs. Behavioural patterns were categorized into four groups for ours. Meeting PA guidelines was associated with significantly lower total mood disturbance versus not meeting guidelines (median [IQR] = 0.4 [4.5] vs. 1.3 [4.4], Z =  - 2.294, df = 1, p = 0.022), as well as lower anger, higher vigor and lower fatigue. Low ST was associated with lower POMS total mood disturbance scores versus higher ST (0.6 [4.4] vs. 1.4 [4.3], Z = 2.028, df = 1, p = 0.043), as well as higher vigor and lower fatigue. Conclusions In this sample of hospital nurses, the combined effects of sleep, PA and ST are associated with total mood disturbance and SWD. Achieving the recommended levels in all three behaviours may be beneficial in decreasing total mood disturbance and minimizing the effects of SWD. Future work is needed to address the low PA and high ST levels of nurses and to better understand how these behaviours can be improved to optimize the mental health of the health workforce. ©2020 Hajo et al.The Cameroon Volcanic Line, a mountain chain located between West and Central Africa, is a region of numerous endemic diversifications, including of puddle frogs (Phrynobatrachus). This study reviews the phylogeny and taxonomy of puddle frogs of the "Cameroon radiation," which is a clade containing mainly montane but also at least three lowland species. Molecular data revealed a novel evolutionary lineage from high altitudes in the northern part of the mountains. Puddle frogs from the new, minute-sized (SVL less then 20 mm) lineage are identified using molecular, morphological and acoustic data and described as two new species, Phrynobatrachus arcanus sp. nov. (Gotel Mountains, Cameroon-Nigeria) and P. mbabo sp. nov. (Tchabal Mbabo, Cameroon). The tadpole of the first species is also described. Phylogenetic analyses placed the new lineage to the proximity of the recently described lowland small-sized taxa (P. horsti, P. ruthbeateae). Based on the inferred phylogeny, we propose five species groups within the Cameroon radiation P. arcanus, P. chukuchuku, P. ruthbeateae, P. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/pdd00017273.html steindachneri, and P. werneri. Information on the wide-ranging determinants of asthma prevalence among the population at risk can help policy makers to reduce risk. Objective The present study is a preliminary investigation of the environmental, socioeconomic and behavioral determinants of asthma prevalence in western Nepal. Methods A survey was conducted among 420 randomly selected households in western Nepal. A cross-sectional analytical study design was employed with the primary data using econometric tools of probit and logistic regression. Results Environmental variables such as extreme cold winter, deteriorating river water quality and air pollution were associated with an increase in asthma prevalence. However, individual or household characteristics such as advancing age of household head, use of pesticides in the home for the control of pests, piped drinking water with old pipes and lack of participation in awareness programs were associated with an increase in asthma prevalence. Discussion Among environmental factors, decreasing river water quality, increasing air pollution, and extremely cold winters are more likely to contribute to asthma prevalence. In light of the effects of environmental factors on the prevalence of asthma in Nepal, the high public and private costs of asthma could further impoverish the rural poor. Conclusions Environmental health policy makers should design adaptation strategies along with additional community programs addressing asthma-instigating factors.     The purpose of this quality improvement project was to improve consistency of discharge teaching in women who used progesterone-containing hormonal contraceptive medications and received sugammadex during general anesthesia, as there is a risk of unintended pregnancy for 1week after administration of sugammadex.

    This project used a predesign and postdesign using two separate sample groups of patients and postanesthesia care unit (PACU) nurses.

    The sample consisted of 31 total women of childbearing age and 59 PACU nurses. Simplification of sugammadex discharge instructions was achieved by incorporating evidence-based recommendations for electronic discharge instructions and nursing education. PACU nurses were educated and surveyed before and after regarding frequency of discharge teaching, clarity, and comprehension of the after-visit summary and knowledge of sugammadex. Patients were called via telephone postoperatively to assess recall of sugammadex discharge teaching.

    Sixty participants in the remission stage of RMPP were recruited into this randomized study and divided into two groups. The Acapella group (n=30) used the Acapella
    Choice twice daily for 2 months to clear their airways. The control group (n=30) used traditional chest percussion or postural drainage to mediate sputum expectoration.     To describe the incidence of outborns among very preterm infants (VPIs, <32 weeks of gestation) in Chinese perinatal centers and to examine the association of outborn status with adverse outcomes.

    A cohort study enrolling all VPIs admitted to 18 perinatal centers in China from May 1st, 2015 to April 30th, 2018. Neonatal outcomes including rates of discharge against medical advice (DAMA), in-hospital mortality, overall mortality, severe intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) or periventricular leukomalacia (PVL), sepsis, bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) and severe retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) were compared between outborn and inborn infants. A multivariate logistic regression model was used to estimate the independent association of outborn status with neonatal outcomes.

    Among 12,014 VPIs, 1,991 (16.6%) infants were outborn. Outborn infants had lower Apgar scores and higher illness severity score on admission. Mothers of outborn infants were less likely to receive antene brain injury compared with inborn infants. Quality improvement efforts are needed to facilitate in-utero transfer of high-risk pregnancies to tertiary centers.
    Pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH) is associated with an increased number of neonatal complications, but its impact on neonatal metabolism remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the differential metabolomics of infants born to mothers with and without PIH.

    Blood samples of a total of 115 infants born to mothers with (n=56) and without (n=59) PIH were collected and assigned to two groups, respectively, from the neonatal department of Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-Sen University. A tandem mass spectrometer was used to generate metabolic profiling of amino acid, free carnitine, and acyl-carnitines. The resulting data were analyzed using orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis based on the difference between infants born to mothers with or without PIH.

    A significant relationship was observed between the two groups (with and without PIH) in the metabolic fingerprint. According to the pattern recognition analysis combined with variance importance, 25 metabolites with high importance were found. The top ten substances were selected for analysis. Compared with infants born to mothers without PIH, glycine levels increased, and C14DC, C22, C4DC, C51, C6DC, C5-OH, proline, C14-OH, and C20 decreased in infants born to mothers with PIH.

    Acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) is a life-threatening factor for post-hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) patients. To investigate the relationship between intestinal flora changes and gut aGVHD after HSCT, we performed this cross-sectional study.

    We selected children from our medical center from July 2016 to January 2017. Fifty-six samples from 42 patients and 6 samples from normal children met the study criteria and were analyzed. Fecal 16S RNA sequencing was completed before transplantation or on days 7, 28 or 100 post-transplantation. The intestinal infection and GVHD clinical data were retrospectively analyzed, and the survival risk factors were analyzed. Correlation analysis was performed with the feces bioinformatic data.

A multivariate logistic regression model was used to estimate the independent association of outborn status with neonatal outcomes. Among 12,014 VPIs, 1,991 (16.6%) infants were outborn. Outborn infants had lower Apgar scores and higher illness severity score on admission. Mothers of outborn infants were less likely to receive antene brain injury compared with inborn infants. Blood samples of a total of 115 infants born to mothers with (n=56) and without (n=59) PIH were collected and assigned to two groups, respectively, from the neonatal department of Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-Sen University. A tandem mass spectrometer was used to generate metabolic profiling of amino acid, free carnitine, and acyl-carnitines. The resulting data were analyzed using orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis based on the difference between infants born to mothers with or without PIH. A significant relationship was observed between the two groups (with and without PIH) in the metabolic fingerprint. According to the pattern recognition analysis combined with variance importance, 25 metabolites with high importance were found. The top ten substances were selected for analysis. Compared with infants born to mothers without PIH, glycine levels increased, and C14DC, C22, C4DC, C51, C6DC, C5-OH, proline, C14-OH, and C20 decreased in infants born to mothers with PIH. Acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) is a life-threatening factor for post-hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) patients. To investigate the relationship between intestinal flora changes and gut aGVHD after HSCT, we performed this cross-sectional study. We selected children from our medical center from July 2016 to January 2017. Fifty-six samples from 42 patients and 6 samples from normal children met the study criteria and were analyzed. Fecal 16S RNA sequencing was completed before transplantation or on days 7, 28 or 100 post-transplantation. The intestinal infection and GVHD clinical data were retrospectively analyzed, and the survival risk factors were analyzed. Correlation analysis was performed with the feces bioinformatic data. The GVHD group alpha diversity was the lowest, which was significantly different than that of the non-diarrhea group (P value=0.032). Patients with epilepsy were matched 11 with patients without epilepsy by age, sex, and physician. The study outcomes included the associations between epilepsy and different physical and mental disorders documented within 365 days after the index date as well as multimorbidity defined as at least two, three, four, and five different diagnoses. The present study used multivariate logistic regression models with all study disorders as dependent variables and epilepsy as an impact variable.

    After 11 matching, the present study included 7942 patients with and 7942 patients without epilepsy (mean age 58.0 years; 49.7% female).     It remains unclear whether transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) can replace the Wada test to determine language hemisphere dominance (HD). Using the Wada test as the gold standard, this study aimed to investigate the accuracy of navigated TMS (nTMS) in determining language HD.

    This study enrolled nine right-handed patients with drug-resistant epilepsy. We hypothesized that application of nTMS to language-related areas of the language-dominant hemisphere would induce positive manifestation of language dysfunction (LD). To test our hypothesis, the patients were instructed to perform a visual object-naming task while nTMS was applied to the anterior (e.g., Broca's area) and posterior (e.g., Wernicke's area) regions, which are closely related to language processing. The Wada test result was used as the gold standard, and the diagnostic value of nTMS was assessed using the Kappa consistency test.

    The nTMS-induced LD positive rate for the bilateral anterior language areas (85.7%) was higher than that for tD with high accuracy.     Fifty-four patients (78% female; mean age of 31.36 years [SD = 10.6]) were contacted and 15 (28%) reported increased frequency of PNES during the pandemic.     We searched clinical notes of 77,924 patients from 2010 to 2014 from six hospitals to find examples of SUDEP counseling and seizure safety counseling. Visits were coded for patient, clinician, and visit factors, and documented reasons for counseling. We evaluated factors associated with SUDEP vs. seizure safety counseling, and reasons for counseling using bivariate and multivariable statistics. Reasons for counseling included poor medication adherence, lifestyle factors (e.g., poor sleep, drinking alcohol), patient/family reluctance to make recommended medication adjustment, epilepsy surgery considerations, and patient education only.

Patients were given a loading dose (0.1 mL/kg) from the PCA device along with ramosetron (0.3 mg) and connected to a PCA device with a background infusion rate of 2 mL/h, bolus dose amount set at 2 mL, and lockout interval set at 15 min. Pain scores were obtained using the numeric rating scale (NRS) at 30 min after recovery room (RR) admission, as well as 8 and 24 h postoperatively. The primary outcome was analgesic efficacy evaluated using NRS-rated 8 h postoperatively. Other evaluated outcomes included the incidence rate of bolus demand, rescue analgesic and antiemetic requirements, and postoperative adverse effects. Results NRS scores were not significantly different between the groups throughout the postoperative period (p = 0.539). In addition to human-human direct SARS-CoV-2 transmission, eco-environmental sources, such as air aerosols, different public use objects, hospital wastes, livestock/pet animals, municipal wastes, ventilation facilities, soil and groundwater potentially contribute to SARS-CoV-2 transmission. Further, high temperature and humidity were found to limit the spread of COVID-19. Although the COVID-19 pandemic led to decrease air and noise pollution during the period of lockdown, increased use of masks and gloves is threatening the environment by water and soil pollutions. COVID-19 badly impacted all the socio-economic groups in different capacities, where women, slum dwellers, and the people lacking social protections are the most vulnerable.     Pedicle screw loosening is a major complication following spinal fixation associated with osteoporosis in elderly. However, denosumab is a promising treatment in patients with osteoporosis. The effect of denosumab on pedicle screw fixation is unknown. Therefore, we investigated whether denosumab treatment improves pedicle screw fixation in elderly patients with osteoporosis.

    This was a 2-year prospective open-label study. From February 2015 to January 2016, we included 21 patients with postmenopausal osteoporosis who received initial denosumab treatment. At baseline, 12 months, and 24 months, we measured volumetric bone mineral density (BMD) using quantitative computed tomography (QCT) and performed CT-based finite element analysis (FEA). Finite element models of L4 vertebrae were created to analyze the bone strength and screw fixation.

    BMD increased with denosumab treatment. FEA revealed that both pullout strength of pedicle screws and compression force of the vertebra increased significantly at 12 and 24 months following denosumab treatment. Notably, pullout strength showed a stronger correlation with three-dimensional volumetric BMD around pedicle screw placement assessed by QCT (r = 0.83, at 24 months) than with two-dimensional areal BMD assessed by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (r = 0.35, at 24 months).

    Quite a few traumatic spinal cord injuries (TSCI) were caused by falls. However, the comparison of different causes of TSCI or the epidemiological characteristics of TSCI caused by falls of different heights are rare. This study investigated the epidemiological characteristics of TSCI caused by falls and conducted a comparison between low falls and high falls.

    Data from cases with TSCI admitted to China Rehabilitation Research Center from 2010 to 2019 were collected, including age, gender, occupation, cause, neurological level, and severity of the injury in admission, combined injuries, complications, and rehabilitation length of stay. Mann-Whitney U and chi-square (χ
    ) tests were used to assess the differences between two groups at a statistical significance level of 0.05.

    A total of 1858 TSCI cases were included and 41.7% were caused by falls, 11.4% by low falls and 30.3% by high falls, respectively. Patients with fall-induced TSCI were older and had a shorter rehabilitation length of stay than those with non-fall-induced TSCI. Patients with high fall-induced TSCI were younger and more likely to suffer from paraplegia, severer injuries, and combined injuries, and had longer time from injury to rehabilitation and rehabilitation length of stay, compared with patients with low fall-induced TSCI.

Therefore, in this study we aimed to seek the optimal concentration of dietary leucine that can reduce fat mass and improve the metabolism without the onset of severe effects.

There remains a need for safe and effective treatment for joint lesions in BS. We report the long-term safety and effectiveness of apremilast in refractory joint and mucocutaneous manifestations of BS.

    French nationwide multicenter study including 50 BS patients with either active joint and/or mucocutaneous manifestations resistant to colchicine and/or DMARDs. Patients received apremilast 30 mg twice a day. Primary effectiveness endpoint was the proportion of patients with complete response (CR) of articular symptoms at month 6 (M6), defined as resolution of inflammatory arthralgia and arthritis, with joint count equal to zero.

Whole-blood mRNA samples from 158 subjects (PTB, n = 109; age-matched household controls, n = 49) were examined by dual-color Reverse-Transcriptase Multiplex Ligation-dependent Probe-Amplification (dcRT-MLPA) for the expression of 198 pre-defined genes and a Mesoscale discovery assay for the concentration of 18 cytokines/chemokines in TB-antigen stimulated QuantiFERON supernatants. To identify signatures, we applied a two-step approach; in the first stberculosis infected household controls in the GSE107994 data set, with an AUC of 0.95 (95% CI 0.91-0.98) and 0.94 (95% CI 0.89-0.98). More interestingly in the GSE89403 data set, the 11-gene signature distinguished PTB from household controls and patients with other lung diseases with an AUC of 0.93 (95% CI 0.87-0.99) and 0.73 (95% CI 0.56-0.89). These criteria meet the WHO TTP benchmarks for a non-sputum-based triage test for TB diagnosis. We suggest that further validation is required before clinical implementation of the 11-gene signature we have identified markers will be possible.

The gold standard for anti-TIF-1γ detection, immunoprecipitation, is only available from a few specialized laboratories worldwide, so commercial ELISA/immunoblot tests have emerged in recent years. To analyze their usefulness in diagnosing cancer-associated dermatomyositis, we compared Euroimmun Euroline profile with our previously validated in-house immunoblot assay with human recombinant TIF-1γ.

Furthermore, Z-RNA binding has been shown to be responsible for the localization of these ZDBD-containing proteins to cytoplasmic stress granules that play central role in coordinating cellular response to stresses. This review sought to consolidate current understanding of Z-RNA sensing in innate immunity and implore possible roles of Z-RNA binding within cytoplasmic stress granules.
