TAGs composed of medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs) and long-chain fatty acids (LCFAs) were rich in human milk, while TAGs with three MCFAs were rich in infant formula. The TAG characteristics of infant formula were directly related to its fat resource. TAGs with fewer double bonds were abundant in the plant oil formula; however, highly unsaturated TAGs were prominent in the *** and goat milk formulas, similar to plant oil and mammalian milk. Significant differences in the TAG distribution were observed among the different species.Protein arginine methyltransferase 5 (PRMT5) is a type II arginine methyltransferase that catalyzes the post-translational symmetric dimethylation of protein substrates. PRMT5 plays a critical role in regulating biological processes including transcription, cell cycle progression, RNA splicing, and DNA repair. As such, dysregulation of PRMT5 activity is implicated in the development and progression of multiple cancers and is a target of growing clinical interest. Described herein are the structure-based drug designs, robust synthetic efforts, and lead optimization strategies toward the identification of two novel 5,5-fused bicyclic nucleoside-derived classes of potent and efficacious PRMT5 inhibitors. Utilization of compound docking and strain energy calculations inspired novel designs, and the development of flexible synthetic approaches enabled access to complex chemotypes with five contiguous stereocenters. Additional efforts in balancing bioavailability, solubility, potency, and CYP3A4 inhibition led to the identification of diverse lead compounds with favorable profiles, promising in vivo activity, and low human dose projections. The main protease (3CL Mpro) from severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the virus that causes COVID-19, is an essential enzyme for viral replication with no human counterpart, making it an attractive drug target. To date, no small-molecule clinical drugs are available that specifically inhibit SARS-CoV-2 Mpro. To aid rational drug design, we determined a neutron structure of Mpro in complex with the α-ketoamide inhibitor telaprevir at near-physiological (22 °C) temperature. We directly observed protonation states in the inhibitor complex and compared them with those in the ligand-free Mpro, revealing modulation of the active-site protonation states upon telaprevir binding. We suggest that binding of other α-ketoamide covalent inhibitors can lead to the same protonation state changes in the Mpro active site. Thus, by studying the protonation state changes induced by inhibitors, we provide crucial insights to help guide rational drug design, allowing precise tailoring of inhibitors to manipulate the electrostatic environment of SARS-CoV-2 Mpro.As important signal metabolites within enterohepatic circulation, bile acids (BAs) play a pivotal role during the occurrence and development of diet-induced nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). https://www.selleckchem.com/products/navoximod.html Here, we evaluated the functional effects of BAs and gut microbiota contributing to sucralose consumption-induced NAFLD of ****. The results showed that sucralose consumption significantly upregulated the abundance of intestinal genera Bacteroides and Clostridium, which produced deoxycholic acid (DCA) accumulating in multiple biological matrixes including feces, serum, and liver of ****. Subsequently, elevated hepatic DCA, one of the endogenous antagonists of the farnesol X receptor (Fxr), inhibited hepatic gene expression including a small heterodimer partner (Shp) and Fxr leading to sucralose-induced NAFLD in ****. Dietary supplements with fructo-oligosaccharide or metformin markedly restored genera Bacteroides and Clostridium abundance and the DCA level of sucralose-consuming ****, which eventually ameliorated NAFLD. These findings highlighted the effects of gut microbiota and its metabolite DCA on sucralose-induced NAFLD of ****.Many of the recently developed methods to study the shape of molecules permit one conformation of one molecule to be compared to another conformation of the same or a different molecule a relative shape. Other methods provide an absolute description of the shape of a conformation that does not rely on comparisons or overlays. Any absolute description of shape can be used to generate a self-organizing map (shape map) that places all molecular shapes relative to one another; in the studies reported here, the shape fingerprint and ultrafast shape recognition methods are employed to create such maps. In the shape maps, molecules that are near one another have similar shapes, and the maps for the 102 targets in the DUD-E set have been generated. By examining the distribution of actives in comparison with their physical-property-matched decoys, we show that the proteins of key-in-lock type (relatively rigid receptor and ligand) can be distinguished from those that are more of a hand-in-glove type (more flexible receptor and ligand). These are linked to known differences in protein flexibility and binding-site size. The reactions of LiAlH4 as the source of LiH with complexes that contain (H)Mo≣Mo and (H)Mo≣Mo(H) cores stabilized by the coordination of bulky AdDipp2 ligands result in the respective coordination of one and two molecules of (thf)LiH, with the generation of complexes exhibiting one and two HLi(thf)H ligands extending across the Mo≣Mo bond (AdDipp2 = HC(NDipp)2; Dipp = 2,6-iPr2C6H3; thf = tetrahydrofuran, C4H8O). A theoretical study reveals the formation of Mo-H-Li three-center-two-electron bonds, supplemented by the coordination of the Mo≣Mo bond to the Li ion. Attempts to construct a [Mo2HLi(thf)H3(AdDipp2)] molecular architecture led to spontaneous trimerization and the formation of a chiral, hydride-rich Mo6Li9H18 supramolecular organization that is robust enough to withstand the substitution of lithium-solvating molecules of tetrahydrofuran by pyridine or 4-dimethylaminopyridine.We present the extension of the Tinker-HP package (Lagardère, Chem. Sci. 2018, 9, 956-972) to the use of Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) cards to accelerate molecular dynamics simulations using polarizable many-body force fields. The new high-performance module allows for an efficient use of single- and multiple-GPU architectures ranging from research laboratories to modern supercomputer centers. After detailing an analysis of our general scalable strategy that relies on OpenACC and CUDA, we discuss the various capabilities of the package. Among them, the multiprecision possibilities of the code are discussed. If an efficient double precision implementation is provided to preserve the possibility of fast reference computations, we show that a lower precision arithmetic is preferred providing a similar accuracy for molecular dynamics while exhibiting superior performances. As Tinker-HP is mainly dedicated to accelerate simulations using new generation point dipole polarizable force field, we focus our study on the implementation of the AMOEBA model.

To investigate hearing outcomes after stapes surgery in children with stapes fixation.
Retrospective study.
Tertiary referral center.
Forty-nine patients (66 ears) aged less than 15 years who received stapes surgery.
Stapes surgery.
Preoperative symptoms, bilateral involvement, pure-tone hearing levels, and perioperative complications were analyzed using paired t test and Mann-Whitney U test.
The chief complaint of all patients was hearing disturbance. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/agi-6780.html Sixteen ears were diagnosed with stapes fixation and an additional congenital ossicular anomaly and 50 ears had only stapes fixation. Preoperative mean bone conduction and air conduction thresholds were 12.0 ± 5.8 dB and 60.9 ± 10.9 dB, respectively. The mean air-bone gap (ABG) was 48.9 ± 12.0 dB in patients with stapes fixation and an ossicular anomaly. The postoperative mean ABG was 23.6 ± 14.5 dB, and the ABG closure was 25.3 ± 18.2 dB. In patients with stapes fixation only, the preoperative mean bone conduction and air conduction thresholds were 14.3 ± 7.5 dB and 49.6 ± 9.5 dB, respectively, and the mean ABG was 35.5 ± 9.6 dB. The postoperative mean ABG was 14.4 ± 10.3 dB, and the ABG closure was 16.2 ± 16.1 dB. The successful results (ABG <20 dB) were 75.8% overall, 56.3% for fixation and an ossicular anomaly, and 82.0% for fixation only.
In children with stapes fixation, hearing loss was worse when the fixation was combined with an ossicular anomaly. Ossicular continuity, especially of the incus, is the most important factor for successful stapes surgery. Appropriate diagnosis and surgical intervention can lead to good results for children with stapes fixation.

To describe a new method to measure the cochlear parameters using Otoplan software, and to compare it with the traditional method using curved multiplanar reconstruction (cMPR).
Retrospective analysis using internal consistency reliability and paired sample t test.
Tertiary referral center.
Thirty-four patients including 68 ears from a clinical trial were retrospectively reviewed.
The length, width, height (distances A, B, H), and cochlear duct length of each cochlea were measured independently using two modalities Otoplan and cMPR. Internal consistency reliability of the two modalities was analyzed. The time spent on each measurement was also recorded.
Otoplan software was compatible with all radiological data in this series. Distances A, B, and H showed no significant differences between Otoplan (9.33 ± 0.365, 6.61 ± 0.359, and 2.91 ± 0.312 mm) and cMPR (9.32 ± 0.314, 6.59 ± 0.342, and 2.93 ± 0.250 mm). The average cochlear duct length calculated by Otoplan was 34.37 ± 1.481 mm, which was not significantly different from that calculated by cMPR (34.55 ± 1.903mm, p = 0.215). The measurements with Otoplan had better internal consistency reliability compared with those by cMPR, and measurements with a higher peak kilovoltage (140 kVp) CT scan showed further higher internal consistency reliability. Time spent on each cochlea by Otoplan was 5.9 ± 0.69 min, significantly shorter than that by cMPR (9.3 ± 0.72 min).
Otoplan provides more rapid and reliable measurement of the cochlea than cMPR. Furthermore, it can be easily used in the laptop computer.

Ocular vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (oVEMP) testing in response to air-conducted sound (ACS) has excellent sensitivity and specificity for superior semicircular canal dehiscence syndrome (SCDS). However, patients with SCDS may experience vertigo with the test, and recent works recommend minimizing acoustic energy during VEMP testing.
To develop an oVEMP protocol that reduces discomfort and increases safety without compromising reliability.
Subjects Fifteen patients diagnosed with SCDS based on clinical presentation, audiometry, standard VEMP testing, and computed tomography (CT) imaging. There were 17 SCDS-affected ears and 13 unaffected ears. In nine (53%) of the SCDS-affected ears surgical repair was indicated, and SCD was confirmed in each. oVEMPs were recorded in response to ACS using 500 Hz tone bursts or clicks. oVEMP amplitudes evoked by 100 stimuli (standard protocol) were compared with experimental protocols with only 40 or 20 stimuli.
In all three protocols, oVEMP amplitudes in SCDS-affected ears were significantly higher than in the unaffected ears (p < 0.001). 500 Hz tone bursts evoked oVEMPs with excellent (>90%) sensitivity and specificity in each of the three protocols. However, in the unaffected ears, lowering to 20 stimuli reduced the detection of oVEMP responses in some ears. Following surgical repair, oVEMPs normalized in each of the protocols.
In oVEMP testing using ACS for SCDS, reducing the number of trials from 100 to 40 stimuli results in a more tolerable and theoretically safer test without compromising its effectiveness for the diagnosis of SCDS. Reducing to 20 stimuli may degrade specificity with clicks.

As a result, the control of oxygen diffusion at different cooling rates can promote the rearrangement of the structure, resulting in a cation-disordered spinel with minimal variations in lattice parameters and composition. Excellent electrochemical properties were noted in the cation-disordered spinel with high crystallinity and a slightly oxygen-rich surface produced via optimized cooling rates.Meningitic Escherichia coli can infiltrate the central nervous system (CNS), consequently increasing the levels of proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines and deteriorating the integrity of the blood-brain barrier (BBB). Resveratrol has emerged in recent years as a compound with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. However, it is still unknown how resveratrol affects meningitic E. coli-induced CNS dysfunction. Here, by using in vivo and in vitro BBB models, we demonstrated that resveratrol treatment significantly inhibited meningitic E. coli invasion of the BBB, protected the integrity of the BBB, and reduced neuroinflammation and lethality. In mechanism, resveratrol inhibited bacterial penetration of the BBB by attenuating the upregulation of caveolin-1 (CAV-1), a class of lipid rafts maintaining endothelial cell function. Resveratrol treatment also maintained BBB permeability by suppressing the ERK1/2-VEGFA signaling cascade. In vivo treatment of resveratrol decreased the production of inflammatory cytokines and improved the survival rate in **** challenged with meningitic E. coli. These findings collectively indicated that resveratrol could attenuate meningitic E. coli-induced CNS injury, which might constitute a new approach for future prevention and treatment of E. coli meningitis.Burkholderia cepacia complex (Bcc) poses a serious health threat to people with cystic fibrosis or compromised immune systems. Infections often arise from ****strains, which are highly resistant to many classes of antibiotics, including β-lactams. β-Lactam resistance in ****is conferred largely via PenA-like β-lactamases. Avibactam was previously shown to be a potent inactivator of PenA1. Here, we examined the inactivation mechanism of PenA1, a class A serine carbapenemase from Burkholderia multivorans using β-lactamase inhibitors (β-lactam-, diazabicyclooctane-, and boronate-based) with diverse mechanisms of action. In whole cell based assays, avibactam, relebactam, enmetazobactam, and vaborbactam restored susceptibility to piperacillin against PenA1 expressed in Escherichia coli. The rank order of potency of inactivation in vitro based on kinact/KI or k2/K values (range 3.4 × 102 to 2 × 106 M-1 s-1) against PenA1 was avibactam > enmetazobactam > tazobactam > relebactam > clavulanic acid > vaborbactam. The cons compared to PenA1. The former likely impacts the ability of all inhibitors to effectively acylate this variant enzyme. Based on the summation of all evidence herein, the utility of these newer β-lactamase inhibitors (i.e., relebactam, enmetazobactam, avibactam, and vaborbactam) in combination with a β-lactam against B. multivorans producing PenA1 and the R220A variant is promising. We recently described an orthogonal initiator tRNA (itRNATy2) that can initiate protein synthesis with noncanonical amino acids (ncAAs) in response to the UAG nonsense codon. Here, we report that a mutant of itRNATy2 (itRNATy2AUA) can efficiently initiate translation in response to the UAU tyrosine codon, giving rise to proteins with an ncAA at their N-terminus. We show that, in cells expressing itRNATy2AUA, UAU can function as a dual-use codon that selectively encodes ncAAs at the initiating position and predominantly tyrosine at elongating positions. Using itRNATy2AUA, in conjunction with its cognate tyrosyl-tRNA synthetase and two mutually orthogonal pyrrolysyl-tRNA synthetases, we demonstrate that UAU can be reassigned along with UAG or UAA to encode two distinct ncAAs in the same protein. Furthermore, by engineering the substrate specificity of one of the pyrrolysyl-tRNA synthetases, we developed a triply orthogonal system that enables simultaneous reassignment of UAU, UAG, and UAA to produce proteins containing three distinct ncAAs at precisely defined sites. To showcase the utility of this system, we produced proteins containing two or three ncAAs, with unique bioorthogonal functional groups, and demonstrate that these proteins can be separately modified with multiple fluorescent probes.Photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting provides an alternative strategy for clean and renewable hydrogen production; however, the practical application is severely limited by the low solar conversion. Herein, a novel and simple strategy has been developed to construct a 3D branched TiO2 photoanode with an ultrathin Al2O3 passivation layer and NiOOH cocatalyst. The structure and properties of the as-obtained photoanodes are explored by X-ray diffraction, Mott-Schottky, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and open circuit voltage measurements. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/CHR-2797(Tosedostat).html The as-obtained B-TiO2/Al2O3/NiOOH ternary heterojunction with a high-quality contact interface exhibits improved light absorption ability, an enhanced photocurrent density of 1.42 mA/cm2 at 1.23 VRHE, high conversion efficiency (0.44% at 0.80 VRHE), and excellent stability compared to pristine TiO2 and alone-Al2O3 or NiOOH decorated TiO2 photoanodes. Therefore, this work could offer a new approach to designing and fabricating high-quality contact interfaces between photoelectrodes and various cocatalysts. With increasing numbers of gender-affirming chest surgery, new questions regarding breast cancer management and surgical practice arise. Guided by our case report, we present a comprehensive review of breast cancer surgery in a transman to educate both plastic and breast surgeons on various factors to consider when caring for these patients. Our case involves a 31-year-old transmale patient who presented for plastic surgery consultation for gender-affirming mastectomy but was subsequently found to have a right breast mass. This is the first case in the literature of a transmale on hormone therapy with breast cancer interested in gender-affirming surgery, thus requiring a dual-surgeon approach for oncologic and gender-affirming mastectomy. With a multidisciplinary patient-centered approach involving breast surgery, plastic surgery, medical oncology, and radiology, we devised a surgical plan to safely remove his breast tissue with consideration for his gender-affirming goals. He underwent a right skin-sparing mastectomy with sentinel node biopsy and left prophylactic skin-sparing mastectomy through skin markings by the plastic surgeon, with bilateral free nipple grafts.
In vivo treatment of resveratrol decreased the production of inflammatory cytokines and improved the survival rate in mice challenged with meningitic E. Infections often arise from Bcc strains, which are highly resistant to many classes of antibiotics, including β-lactams. β-Lactam resistance in Bcc is conferred largely via PenA-like β-lactamases. He underwent a right skin-sparing mastectomy with sentinel node biopsy and left prophylactic skin-sparing mastectomy through skin markings by the plastic surgeon, with bilateral free nipple grafts.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 2 Views 0 önizleme -
8 vs. 16.4 years, p less then 0.03) compared to MBL sufficient patients with PAC. SFTPD serum level and FEV1% (Spearman r = -0.41, p less then 0.03) showed a negative correlation irrespective of PA infection status. The hazard ratio to PA acquisition was increased in carriers of the SFTPD haplotype 11Thr-160Ala-270Ser compared to carriers of the common 11Met-160Thr-270Ser haplotype [HR 3.0 (95%CI 1.1-8.6), p less then 0.04]. Conclusion MBL insufficiency leads to a shorter interval between first PA infection and onset of chronic infection. Susceptibility to PA acquisition is associated with SFTPD genetic variants with 11Thr-160Ala-270Ser as risk haplotype for early PA infection. This may be due to presence of threonine associated with oligomeric structure of SFTPD and binding ability to bacteria. The cardiovascular and immune systems undergo profound and intertwined alterations with aging. Recent studies have reported that an accumulation of memory and terminally differentiated T cells in elderly subjects can fuel myocardial aging and boost the progression of heart diseases. Nevertheless, it remains unclear whether the immunological senescence profile is sufficient to cause age-related cardiac deterioration or merely acts as an amplifier of previous tissue-intrinsic damage. Herein, we sought to decompose the causality in this cardio-immune crosstalk by studying young **** harboring a senescent-like expanded CD4+ T cell compartment. Thus, immunodeficient NSG-DR1 **** expressing HLA-DRB1*0101 were transplanted with human CD4+ T cells purified from matching donors that rapidly engrafted and expanded in the recipients without causing xenograft reactions. In the donor subjects, the CD4+ T cell compartment was primarily composed of naïve cells defined as CCR7+CD45RO-. However, when transplanted into young lymphocyte-deficient ****, CD4+ T cells underwent homeostatic expansion, upregulated expression of PD-1 receptor and strongly shifted towards effector/memory (CCR7- CD45RO+) and terminally-differentiated phenotypes (CCR7-CD45RO-), as typically seen in elderly. Differentiated CD4+ T cells also infiltrated the myocardium of recipient **** at comparable levels to what is observed during physiological aging. In addition, young **** harboring an expanded CD4+ T cell compartment showed increased numbers of infiltrating monocytes, macrophages and dendritic cells in the heart. Bulk mRNA sequencing analyses further confirmed that expanding T-cells promote myocardial inflammaging, marked by a distinct age-related transcriptomic signature. Altogether, these data indicate that exaggerated CD4+ T-cell expansion and differentiation, a hallmark of the aging immune system, is sufficient to promote myocardial alterations compatible with inflammaging in juvenile healthy ****.The structural and functional destruction of the blood-testis barrier (BTB) following uropathogenic E. coli (UPEC) infection may be a critical component of the pathologic progress of orchitis. Recent findings indicate that the mammalian target of the rapamycin (mTOR)-signaling pathway is implicated in the regulation of BTB assembly and restructuring. To explore the mechanisms underlying BTB damage induced by UPEC infection, we analyzed BTB integrity and the involvement of the mTOR-signaling pathway using in vivo and in vitro UPEC-infection models. We initially confirmed that soluble virulent factors secreted from UPEC trigger a stress response in Sertoli cells and disturb adjacent cell junctions via down-regulation of junctional proteins, including occludin, zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1), F-actin, connexin-43 (CX-43), β-catenin, and N-cadherin. The BTB was ultimately disrupted in UPEC-infected rat testes, and blood samples from UPEC-induced orchitis in these animals were positive for anti-sperm antibodies. Furthermore, we herein also demonstrated that mTOR complex 1 (mTORC1) over-activation and mTORC2 suppression contributed to the disturbance in the balance between BTB "opening" and "closing." More importantly, rapamycin (a specific mTORC1 inhibitor) significantly restored the expression of cell-junction proteins and exerted a protective effect on the BTB during UPEC infection. We further confirmed that short-term treatment with rapamycin did not aggravate spermatogenic degeneration in infected rats. Collectively, this study showed an association between abnormal activation of the mTOR-signaling pathway and BTB impairment during UPEC-induced orchitis, which may provide new insights into a potential treatment strategy for testicular infection.Numerous types of viruses have been found in human semen, which raises concerns about the sexual transmission of these viruses. The overall effect of semen on viral infection and transmission have yet to be fully investigated. In the present study, we aimed at the effect of seminal plasma (SP) on viral infection by focusing on the mumps viral (MuV) infection of HeLa cells. MuV efficiently infected HeLa cells in vitro. MuV infection was strongly inhibited by the pre-treatment of viruses with SP. SP inhibited MuV infection through the impairment of the virus's attachment to cells. The antiviral activity of SP was resistant to the treatment of SP with boiling water, Proteinase K, RNase A, and DNase I, suggesting that the antiviral factor would not be proteins and nucleic acids. PNGase or PLA2 treatments did not abrogate the antiviral effect of SP against MuV. Further, we showed that the prostatic fluid (PF) showed similar inhibition as SP, whereas the epididymal fluid and seminal vesicle extract did not inhibit MuV infection. Both SP and PF also inhibited MuV infection of other cell types, including another human cervical carcinoma cell line C33a, mouse primary epididymal epithelial cells, and Sertoli cell line 15P1. Moreover, this inhibitory effect was not specific to MuV, as the herpes simplex virus 1, dengue virus 2, and adenovirus 5 infections were also inhibited by SP and PF. Our findings suggest that SP contains a prostate-derived pan-antiviral factor that may limit the sexual transmission of various viruses.Vitamin D is one of the most important nutrients required by the human body. It is a steroid hormone that plays an important role in regulating calcium and phosphorus metabolism, and bone health. Epidemiological studies have revealed a close correlation between vitamin D and many common chronic diseases. Additionally, vitamin D has recently been shown to act as an immunomodulatory hormone, and, accordingly, vitamin D deficiency was uncovered as a risk factor for autoimmune thyroid diseases, although the underlying mechanisms are still unknown. It is therefore necessary to disclose the role and mechanism of action of vitamin D in the occurrence and development of autoimmune thyroid diseases. https://www.selleckchem.com/ This knowledge will help design intervention and early treatment strategies for patients with autoimmune thyroid diseases who present with low levels of vitamin D.

Shelf life, storage stability and microbial growth of wet starch noodles during storage were investigated, and spoilage microbiota was also analyzed to further reveal the decisive factor shaping the microbial community. Sensory analysis and microbiological results indicated that starch noodles treated with sodium dehydroacetate and stored at 4 °C could effectively delay the moldy decay and extend the shelf-life to 50 days, as compared to control and other treatments. In wet starch noodles, molds were found to have a higher spoilage potential than bacteria and yeasts. 16S rDNA sequencing revealed that preservatives, rather than temperature, could cause the significant difference (PERMANOVA p = 0.001) of spoilage bacterial community among samples and sodium dehydroacetate could markedly reduce the bacterial diversity. ITS rDNA sequencing results demonstrated that temperature was the decisive factor in shaping fungal spoilage microbiota (Mantel test r = 0.413, p = 0.002). https://www.selleckchem.com/products/phorbol-12-myristate-13-acetate.html Besides, Spearman correlation analysis illustrated that the abundance of some microorganisms such as Pseudomonas, Aspergillus and Penicillium were found to be significantly correlated with pH or temperature. These findings provide guiding information in the selection of preservatives and environmental condition for this high-moisture starch noodles.Pectinases are the emerging enzymes of the biotechnology industry with a 25% share in the worldwide food and beverage enzyme market. These are green and eco-friendly tools of nature and hold a prominent place among the commercially produced enzymes. Pectinases exhibit applications in various industrial bioprocesses, such as clarification of fruit juices and wine, degumming, and retting of plant fibers, extraction of antioxidants and oil, fermentation of tea/coffee, wastewater remediation, modification of pectin-laden agro-industrial waste materials for high-value products biosynthesis, manufacture of cellulose fibres, scouring, bleaching, and size reduction of fabric, cellulosic biomass pretreatment for bioethanol production, etc. Nevertheless, like other enzymes, pectinases also face the challenges of low operational stability, recoverability, and recyclability. To address the above-mentioned problems, enzyme immobilization has become an eminently promising approach to improve their thermal stability and catand future recommendations are also given.Tea (Camellia sinensis) leaf quality depends on several factors such as plucking seasons, cultivation practices, and climatic conditions, which affect the chemical compositions of tea leaves. Pruning has been practiced as one of the common cultivation managements in tea cultivation and is hypothesized to exhibit metabolic differences from unpruned tea plants. Although metabolomics studies provide immense information about production of distinct tea products, the metabolic physiology of the plants cultivated under unpruning conditions is poorly understood. Therefore, in the present study, we explored the metabolic characteristics of tea leaves obtained from unpruned tea plants collected at different plucking seasons in a single year and in a given plucking time in the three successive years, through 1H NMR-based metabolomics approach. Seasonal variations in diverse tea leaf metabolites both in pruned and unpruned tea plants were observed along with marked metabolic differences in tea leaves collected from pruned and unpruned tea plants in a given plucking time. Particularly, in abnormal year of vintage with high rainfall in 2018, high synthesis of glucose followed by high accumulations of catechin, including its derivatives, in unpruned tea, demonstrated intense active photosynthesis compared to pruned tea plants, indicating different metabolic responses of pruned and unpruned tea plants to similar climatic conditions. The current study highlights the important role of tea cultivation practices in tea plants for better management of leaf quality and the strong metabolic dependence on climatic conditions in a given vintage. In the present work, fifteen mutagenic/carcinogenic heterocyclicamines (HAs)were studied in cooked Caridean shrimp (pink) and Penaeid shrimp (tiger, white and brown). The cooking methods were used as stir-frying, broiling and steaming under controlled temperature and time, and HAs determination was performed by SPE/UPLC-ESI-MS/MS. HAs 2-amino-3-methylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoline (IQ), 2-amino-3,8-dimethylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoxaline (MeIQx), 2-amino-3,4,8-trimethylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoxaline (4,8-DiMeIQx), 2-amino-1-methyl-6-phenylimidazo[4,5-b]pyridine (PhIP), 2-Amino-1,6-dimethyl-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine (DMIP), 1-Methyl-9H-pyrido[3,4-b]indole (Harman) and 9H-pyrido[3,4-b]indole (Norharman) were identified (0.05-22.48 ng/g) in all stir-fried and broiled shrimp, whereas 2-amino-3,4-dimethylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoline (MeIQ) was only found (0.08-0.35 ng/g) in stir-fried shrimp. HAs 2-Amino-3,7,8-trimethyl-imidazo[4,5-f]quinoxaline (7,8-DiMeIQx) and, α-carbolines 2-Amino-9H-pyrido[2,3-b]indole (AαC) and 2-Amino-3-methyl-9H-pyes and precursors are the main contributors to the formation of HAs. The outcomes from this work could be applied to estimate the HAs human intake globally and add to steaming cooking method in such types of food products that diminish the risk of HAs exposure, and thus to get healthier food quality and security. The current study applied both GC-MS and GC-IMS for characterizing the volatile compounds of six Australian sorghum cultivars. For raw sorghum, the result of GC-MS showed that the ester compounds were abundant in six raw samples. Among these esters, the content of hexadecanoic acid ethyl ester was highest in all of the raw samples. Compound 3-octanone only existed in Apollo, Bazley and Liberty, and 2-undecanone was found to be in MR43. The result of GC-IMS showed that the signals of benzaldehyde, 2,3-butanedione were generally noted in the six raw samples. In general, The Apollo and Buster had more volatile compounds, followed by Bazley and Liberty. In contrast, MR43 and G44 had the least volatile compounds. For cooked sorghums, more fatty aldehydes are formed compared to its corresponding raw sample, in which the current data indicated that 40 volatile compounds were identified by GC-MS, and 11 of them were identified as the key aroma compounds (OAVs > 1). More important, the variation in the compounds of hexanal, heptanal, octanal, 2-heptenal, nonanal, trans- 2-octenal, benzeneaceldehyde, (E)-2-nonenal, 1-octen-3-ol, 1-pentanol, 2-methoxy-4-vinylphenol and 2-pentylfuran might be applied for explaining the aroma characteristics among the six sorghum cultivars.

Significant improvements from preoperative to last follow-up were documented in the Constant-Murley score (53.8%-83.5%, P < .001) and active range of motion (abduction 84°-108°, flexion 98°-125°, and external rotation 19°-41°). There was no significant difference between total and hemiarthroplasty. The mean DASH score was 28.3 points (95% confidence interval 20.1-35.2). Lowering of bone mineral density was observed in anteroposterior radiographs at the humeral component in 24.5% and at the glenoid component in 33.3%. The rate of complications was 15.7%.

In this review, we describe how FPMOs have evolved from model enzymes in mechanistic flavoprotein research to biotechnologically relevant catalysts that can be applied for the sustainable production of valuable chemicals. After a historical account of the development of the FPMO field, we explain the FPMO classification system, which is primarily based on protein structural properties and electron donor specificities. We then summarize the most appealing reactions catalyzed by each group with a focus on the different types of oxygenation chemistries. Wherever relevant, we report engineering strategies that have been used to improve the robustness and applicability of FPMOs.The downregulation of cannabinoid type-2 receptors (CB2R) have been reported in numerous diseases including cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). https://www.selleckchem.com/ The activation of CB2R has recently emerged as an important therapeutic target to mitigate myocardial injury. We examined whether CB2R activation can protect against isoproterenol (ISO)-induced myocardial injury (MI) in rats. In the present study, we investigated the cardioprotective effect of β-caryophyllene (BCP), a naturally occurring dietary cannabinoid in rat model of MI. Rats were pre- and co-treated with BCP (50 mg/kg, orally) twice daily for 10 days along with subcutaneous injection of ISO (85 mg/kg) at an interval of 24 h for two days (9th and 10th days). AM630 (1 mg/kg), a CB2 receptor antagonist, was injected intraperitoneal as a pharmacological challenge prior to BCP treatment to reveal CB2R-mediated cardioprotective mechanisms of BCP. Desensitization of beta-adrenergic receptor (β-AR) signaling, receptor phosphorylation and recruitment of adapter β-arrestins nd cell organelles as observed in histopathological and ultrastructural studies. Interestingly, treatment with AM630, a CB2R antagonist was observed to abrogate the protective effects of BCP on the biochemical and molecular parameters except hyperlipidemia and ionic homeostasis in ISO-induced MI in rats. The present study findings demonstrate that BCP possess the potential to protect myocardium against ISO-induced MI in a CB2-dependent and independent manner.Lithium chloride (LiCl), a pharmacological compound, was effective in reducing inflammation, but whether it can protect against abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is largely unknown. This study is designed to investigate therapeutic effects of LiCl on AAA and the potential mechanism. Rat AAA models were induced by periaortic application of CaCl2. AAA rats were treated by daily intraperitoneal injection of LiCl or vehicle alone to study the protection effects of LiCl in vivo. Rat primary vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) stimulated with tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α served as an in vitro model. LiCl treatment prevented the development of AAA through inhibiting the inflammatory cells infiltration and inflammatory cytokines overproduction, as well as attenuating superoxide production and elastin degradation in aorta of AAA rats. Additionally, the downregulation of p-GSK3β(Ser9) and SIRT1, upregulation of NF-κB(p-65), MMP-2 and MMP-9 in AAA were abolished by LiCl treatment. In vitro by upregulating p-GSK3β(Ser9), LiCl significantly induced SIRT1 expression, along with inhibition of the NF-κB activation and decreased elastin level elicited in VSMCs by TNF-α stimulation. SIRT1 activator SRT1720 achieved similar repressive effects as LiCl on TNF-α-induced NF-κB activation and decreased elastin in VSMCs. Moreover, administration of LiCl also caused regression of established rats AAA. This study provided the first evidence that LiCl prevented the development of AAA through inhibiting inflammation, MMPs, and superoxide production, and facilitating the biosynthesis of elastin. The beneficial effect of LiCl may be mediated by regulation GSK3β/SIRT1/NF-κB cascade.Thiol-disulphide homeostasis (TDH) is a new parameter indicating oxidative stress that plays a role in the pathogenesis of various clinical disorders. Our study planned to investigate TDH in COVID-19 patients. Age and gender-matched healthy subjects (n = 70) and COVID-19 patients (n = 144) were included in the study. In addition to the routine laboratory parameters of the groups, their native thiol (NT), total thiol (TT) and disulphide levels were measured. Primarily, we compared COVID-19 patients to the healthy control group for inflammatory parameters, NT, TT and disulphide levels. Then, COVID-19 patients were divided into two groups according to the severity of the disease as mild to moderate and severe COVID-19, and the three groups were compared with each other. Predictive value of thiol parameters in the diagnosis of COVID-19 and in the determining its severity, and its correlation with presence and duration of symptoms were investigated. Severe COVID-19 patients had lower NT and TT levels compared with healthy controls and mild to moderate patients (P less then 0.

nipponense were evaluated by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR), and the results showed that the expression levels of dorsal, relish, crustin1, crustin2, anti-lipopolysaccharide factors 1 (ALF1), anti-lipopolysaccharide factors 2 (ALF2), hemocyanin, i-lysozyme and prophenoloxidase were significantly up-regulated in hepatopancreas of M. nipponense after A. hydrophila infection, the stat, p38, crustin3, anti-lipopolysaccharide factors 3 (ALF3) genes had no significant change during the infection. The present results reveal that A. hydrophila was an etiological agent causing red spot syndrome and mass mortality of M. nipponense and the influence of A. hydrophila infection on host immune genes. The aim of this research was to study the effect of marketed tablet (Crestor®) powder suspension (MTPS) and nanoparticle formulation of rosuvastatin calcium (RC) on the pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) parameters in hyperlipidemia rats. The hyperlipidemia is induced by intraperitoneal injection of Triton-X-100 in 0.9 %w/v saline solution. The marketed tablet was dispersed into suspension. The RC loaded nanoparticles (RC-NPs) are prepared by homogenization method. The prepared RC-NP formulation was characterized for size, drug excipient compatibility and crystallization by differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), morphology by SEM, stability at room temperature, in-vitro dissolution and in-situ absorption in rats. Further, the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies were conducted in hyperlipidemia rats. The size of the RC-NP formulation was found to be 183.4 ± 4.5 nm and to be nearly spherical by SEM. DSC studies revealed that no interaction and RC converted to amorphous form in RC-NP formulation. RC-NP formulation was physically and chemically stable over two months at room temperature. The drug release was found to be 25.8 ± 2.5 and 89.96 ± 2.8 % in five mins, respectively from MTPS and RC-NP formulations. The Peff of MTPS and NP of RC was 1.8 ± 0.2 × 10-5 and 2.7 ± 0.3 × 10-5 cm/s, respectively. From the PK studies, the enhancement in the oral bioavailability was found to be 2.4-folds when compared to MTPS formulation and statistically significant (p less then 0.05). PD study of RC-NP formulation in hyperlipidemic rats exhibited decrease in lipid profile for 24 h, while MTPS exhibited a decrease in lipid profile for 12 h. Therefore, the results conclusively demonstrate the nanoparticles of RC showed significant enhancement in the PK and PD parameters.Generation of mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS), lipid peroxidation, 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal, and heat-shock protein (HSP) 47 after electron and X-ray irradiations were detected in the human neuroblastoma cell line SK-N-SH. After 10 Gy electron irradiation and 15 Gy X-ray irradiation, mitochondrial ROS production and lipid peroxidation were significantly increased. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/gdc-0068.html Additionally, we observed a significant increase in the levels of HSP47 after 3 and 10 Gy electron irradiation as well as 15 Gy X-ray irradiation. Furthermore, myristoylation and farnesylation were increased after 10 Gy electron and 15 Gy X-ray irradiations. We found that the level of HSP47 increased in the mitochondria after 10 Gy electron and 15 Gy X-ray irradiations. HSP47 coexisted with myristoylation and farnesylation. Furthermore, HSP47 overexpression increased mitochondrial ROS production. These results suggest that HSP47 plays an important role in mitochondria and induces mitochondrial ROS production in SK-N-SH cells. The progress on mammalian superaquaporin (sAQP), AQP11 and AQP12, in the past seven years is brought up to date from the previous review. This subfamily is separated because of the very low homology with other AQP subfamilies and it is present only in multicellular organisms excluding fungi and plants. Its unique intracellular localization, specifically in the ER has made its functional studies challenging, but it may function as glyceroporin, aquaporin and peroxiporin, H2O2 transporter. Knowledge on AQP11 has been expanded by tissue specific conditional knockout **** and by the identification of a SNP associated with kidney diseases. Moreover, the functional identification of AQP11 as a peroxiporin has expanded the role of AQP11 to the regulation of intracellular H2O2 homeostasis to prevent ER stress, which awaits further in vivo studies. As kidney-specific AQP11 knockout of developed kidney has produced little phenotype, AQP11 is critical for kidney development but its physiological significance remains to be clarified. On the other hand, little has been known on pancreas-specific AQP12. To move this field forward, the results of sAQP in lower animals will be necessary to obtain the insights into the role of mammalian sAQP, which hopefully will lead to the discovery of therapeutic targets. The human colon balances water and electrolyte absorption and secretion while also forming a barrier protecting the body from the entry of harmful components. Aquaporin-3 (AQP3) is a water, glycerol and H2O2 transporting channel expressed in colonic epithelia. Although expression of colonic epithelial AQP3 is altered in several intestinal disorders, such as inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome, the regulation and specific roles of AQP3 remain to be fully defined. In this mini-review, we summarize the current understanding of the expression, regulation, and biological functions of AQP3 protein in colonic epithelia concerning intestinal absorption, secretion and barrier function.
After ischemic stroke, the increased catabolism of glucose (hyperglycolysis) results in the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) via nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase (NOX). A depressive or hibernation-like effect of C+P on brain activity was reported to induce neuroprotection. The current study assesses the effect of C+P on hyperglycolysis and NOX activation.
Adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to 2h of middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) followed by 6 or 24h of reperfusion. At the onset of reperfusion, rats received C+P with or without temperature control, or phloretin [glucose transporter (GLUT)-1 inhibitor], or cytochalasin B (GLUT-3 inhibitor). We detected brain ROS, apoptotic cell death, and ATP levels along with HIF-1α expression. Cerebral hyperglycolysis was measured by glucose, protein expression of GLUT-1/3, and phosphofructokinase-1 (PFK-1), as well as lactate and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) at 6 and 24h of reperfusion. The enzymatic activity of NOX and protein expression of its subunits (gp91
) were detected.

The continuous process was based on the generation of hydroxyl-radicals via the UV-C (254 nm) photo-degradation of hydrogen peroxide and ozone. The decontamination efficacy of the gAOP was dependent on the orientation of the N95 mask passing through the gAOP unit with those positioned horizontally enabling greater exposure to hydroxyl-radicals compared to when arranged vertically. The lethality of gAOP was independent of the applied hydrogen peroxide concentration (2-6% v/v) but was significantly (P6 log CFU reduction of endospores inoculated on the interior or exterior of surgical masks. G. stearothermophilus Apex spore strips could be applied as a biological indicator to verify the performance of gAOP treatment. Also, a chemical indicator based on the oxidative polymerization of pyrrole was found suitable for reporting the generation of hydroxyl-radicals. In conclusion, gAOP is a verifiable treatment that can be applied to decontaminate N95 and surgical masks without any negative effects on functionality.Additive manufacturing (AM) includes a series of techniques used to create products, in several different materials, such as metal, polymer or ceramics, with digital models. The main advantage of AM is that it allows the creation of complex structures, but AM promises several additional advantages including the possibility to manufacture on demand or replacing smaller worn parts by directly building on an existing piece. Therefore, the interest for and establishment of AM is rapidly expanding, which is positive, however it is important to be aware that new techniques may also result in new challenges regarding health and safety issues. Metals in blood and possible clinical effects due to metal exposure were investigated in AM operators at one of the first serial producing AM facilities in the world during two consecutive years with implementation of preventive measures in-between. As comparison, welders and office workers as control group were investigated. Health investigations comprised of surveys, lung funcould be drawn.
To assess efficacy and safety of imaging-guided radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of Osteoid Osteoma (OO) in both typical and atypical sites.
Between January 2014 and March 2019, 102 consecutive percutaneous RFA were performed and retrospectively reviewed. The procedures were performed using a RFA bipolar ablation system (Covidien, exposed tip of 0.7-1cm), under Computed Tomography (CT) guidance or using a navigation system (Masmec) under CT and Cone Beam CT (CBCT) guidance. Patients were followed up over 24 months. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/CHR-2797(Tosedostat).html Clinical success and recurrences were considered on the base of established criteria. In patients with clinical failure and/or imaging evidence of relapse, retreatment was considered.
Administered power per-procedure was ≤8 W (mean temperature, 90°C). The pre-procedure average value of visual analog scale (VAS) was 8.33+/-0.91. Primary and secondary success rate 96.08% (98/102) and100% (102/102), respectively. No major complication was described. Technical success was proved in every patient by CT scan acquisition after needle positioning. Relapse and tumour location were significantly correlated (p-value = 0.0165). The mean dose-length product was 751.55 mGycm2. Advanced bone healing was noted in 68 lesions after 1y-follow up and in 86 lesions after 2y-follow up.
Imaging-guided percutaneous RFA is a highly effective technique for OO, both in typical and atypical sites. CT or CBCT guidance, navigation systems and operator experience grant the technical success, which is the most crucial parameter affecting outcome.

Twenty-two athletes from a professional soccer club (age 27.7 ± 3.93 years; BMI 24.35 ± 1.80 kg/cm2) were followed during the season of a national championship, totaling 19 matches with an interval of 7 days between matches. At each match, the athletes used a Global Positioning System (GPS) device to collect performance data. Forty-eight hours after each match, every athlete's perception of recovery, fatigue, and pain was documented. Blood was collected for creatine kinase (CK) analysis, and infrared thermography was applied. Only athletes who presented pain above 4 in either limb were included for thermographic analysis. Each thermographic image was divided into 14 regions of interest. For statistical analysis, we included only the images that showed differences ≥ 1° C. Data normality was verified by the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test with Dallal-Wilkinson-Lilliefors correction. We used the Pearson correlation coefficient to verify the correlation between infrared thermography and the biochemical marker, performance data, and clinical recovery scales. No correlation was observed between mean skin temperature and blood CK levels, pain level, perception of recovery, and fatigue perception (r 0.05). Thus, infrared thermography did not correlate with CK level, pain, fatigue perception, or recovery, nor with performance variables within the field.

Thus, infrared thermography did not correlate with CK level, pain, fatigue perception, or recovery, nor with performance variables within the field.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 7 Views 0 önizleme -
In the last decades, the world suffers from the wastes those results from unprecedented growth in the food industry. This context investigated the characteristics and suitability of utilizing cocoa shell (CS), an agro-industrial residual biomass waste from the chocolate industry, without any chemical and/or physical treatment. It is an abundant, low-cost, and green adsorbent that can be utilized for the effective removal of basic blue (BB41) as an example of cationic dye from aqueous solutions. The CS showed high adsorption potential (90.04%) with the mild operating condition, 45 min adsorption time, pH 6, CS dose 4 g/L, BB41 concentration 10 mg/L, stirring speed 400 rpm at 295 K. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/3-methyladenine.html The kinetic, equilibrium, isotherms and mechanism studies revealed that the BB41 adsorption onto CS was attained mainly by electrostatic interaction, π-π stacking interaction, hydrogen bonding, covalent bond, and physical mechanisms. Besides, the organic functional groups played an important role during the adsorption process. The thermodynamic parameters suggested that the adsorption of BB41 dye was the non-spontaneous endothermic process with an activation energy 18.28 kJ/mol. From the industrial point of view, this work offers an economical push in waste management and also a green approach for the effective removal of toxic dyes from textile wastewater."Queijo de Nisa" is a traditional Portuguese cheese, granted with PDO label, produced with raw ewe's milk in which the aqueous extract of cardoon flower Cynara cardunculus L. is the only coagulant allowed. As in similar cheeses with no use of starter cultures or pasteurisation, the quality and food safety are depending on prevention, high hygienic standards and a proper manufacturing process. This study investigated the use of computer vision as novel method for the evaluation of gas holes in Queijo de Nisa in three different ripening dates (0, 15 and 35 days). A total of 48 samples were produced using cardoon flower from three different origins (C1, C2 and C3) and a commercial vegetable coagulant (C4). The results presented a high correlation between image-dependent attributes and physical-chemical properties during ripening time, especially within the first 15 days of ripening time, where major structural changes were observed inside the Queijo de Nisa cheese. Principal component analysis presented a strong correlation (p less then 0.05) between image parameters and the physical-chemical evolution until 15 days. From 15 to 35 days, the evolution of cheeses was mainly depending on structural parameters, like G'1 Hz and hardness. No influence was observed due to the geographical origin of cardoon flower. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of the sequence of different thermal and mechanical treatments on the physicochemical parameters and microstructure of garlic paste, in order to improve the quality of the product. The total organosulfur compounds (OSCs) decreased steadily in blended-heated garlic, whereas OSCs decreased sharply after 2 min at 75 °C or 5 min at 85 and 95 °C in heated-blended garlic. After blanching for 5 min, allicin could maintain over 4.0 mg/g only at 75 °C; and OSCs of heated-blended garlic paste were found to drop by 29.56%, 90.63% and 94.79% at 75, 85 and 95 °C, respectively. In blended-heated garlic, the color values of L* (lightness) and a* (redness) decreased (P less then 0.05), while the b* (yellowness) and C* (chroma) increased (P less then 0.05), obtaining green discoloration garlic paste. The total color differences of blended-heated samples were greater than 12.08, which were 2-6 folds higher compared with heated-blended garlic. Total phenolic content and antioxidant activity decreased (P less then 0.05) in all thermal treatments, thermal treatment of heated-blended garlic less than 5 min maintained over 30% of antiradical activity. The sequence of unit operations determined the pattern of garlic microstructure disruption, resulting in various enzymic and non-enzymic reactions. Our results indicated that use of heat treatment prior to blend processing is an effective and feasible method to inhibit garlic discoloration and retain high content of bioactive OSCs. It is recommended that garlic paste be prepared using heated-blended processing, with thermal processing limited to 75 °C for less than 5 min.Chironji fruit juice extraction using cellulase enzyme was performed at various concentrations of cellulase, incubation temperature, and time. Artificial neural network (ANN) conjugated with genetic algorithm (GA), and response surface methodology (RSM) were used for attaining the process conditions where the highest juice yield can be achieved. The recommended values of process parameters obtained using ANN-GA method were cellulase concentration of 0.093% (w/w), incubation temperature of 45.7 °C, and incubation time of 116 min. Using RSM method, the recommended values were cellulase concentration of 0.081% (w/w), incubation temperature of 39.6 °C, and incubation time of 99 min. However, the incubation time was found to be the most significant independent process parameter followed by cellulase concentration that affect the juice yield. The juice yield determined experimentally at RSM and ANN-GA recommended conditions was 69.77 ± 0.16% and 70.15 ± 0.12%, respectively. These values indicated that both RSM and ANN-GA methods have comparable accuracies. However, juice extracted using ANN-GA recommended conditions had better physicochemical properties than the juice extracted using RSM recommended conditions. This paper aims to examine the association between the consumer's socioeconomic status and the consumption of organic food. A conceptual model developed in this paper provides a more detailed understating of how socioeconomic status can, through the perceived values of organic food, influence the willingness to buy and to pay. A sample of 384 consumers of organic food in Tunisia were interviewed using convenience sampling. The Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used to test the hypotheses of the proposed conceptual model. The socioeconomic status of consumers (education, occupation and income) was found to be an important predictor of perceived organic food values (utilitarian and hedonic). While utilitarian value had a stronger influence on the willingness to pay, hedonic value proved more influential on the willingness to buy. This paper is one of the earliest studies of its kind, which focused on the association between socioeconomic status and organic consumption. Findings have provided clear ways for practitioners to segment their markets on the basis of the socioeconomic status of consumers.
