Continuous monitoring of breathing frequency (fB) could foster early prediction of adverse clinical effects and exacerbation of medical conditions. Current solutions are invasive or obtrusive and thus not suitable for prolonged monitoring outside the clinical setting. Previous studies demonstrated the feasibility of deriving fB by measuring inclination changes due to breathing using accelerometers or inertial measurement units (IMU). Nevertheless, few studies faced the problem of motion artifacts that limit the use of IMU-based systems for continuous monitoring. Moreover, few attempts have been made to move towards real portability and wearability of such devices. This paper proposes a wearable IMU-based device that communicates via Bluetooth with a smartphone, uploading data on a web server to allow remote monitoring. Two IMU units are placed on thorax and abdomen to record breathing-related movements, while a third IMU unit records body/trunk motion and is used as reference. The performance of the proposed system was evaluated in terms of long-acquisition-platform reliability showing good performances in terms of duration and data loss amount. The device was preliminarily tested in terms of accuracy in breathing temporal parameter measurement, in static condition, during postural changes, and during slight indoor activities showing favorable comparison against the reference methods (mean error breathing frequency less then 5%). To evaluate the effect of reduced human DNA in the sensitivity of mNGS detection, three specimen-processing protocols were performed (i) To remove human DNA, saponin, a nonionic surfactant, was used to selectively lyse white cells in CSF followed by DNase treatment prior to the extraction of DNA; (ii) to reduce host DNA, CSF was centrifuged to remove human cells, and the supernatant was collected for DNA extraction; and (iii) DNA extraction from the unprocessed specimens was set as the control. We found that saponin processing significantly elevated the NGS unique reads for Cryptococcus (P 0.05). However, detection of centrifuged supernatants improved the NGS unique reads for both TBM and CM compared with controls (P less then 0.01). The first main experiment considers drilling for pedicle screw placements, while the second main experiment refers to three-dimensional milling tasks such as during partial knee replacements or craniectomies. The lack of knowledge among health care professionals leads to diagnostic delays, further spread of disease, and poor infection control practices. Health care professionals must be updated knowledge regarding COVID-19. This study aims to assess the knowledge of health care professionals regarding COVID -19 in a medical college in Chitwan.
A Knowledge, Attitude and Practice Study was carried out in a tertiary care hospital in Chitwan, Nepal from April 22, 2020, to April 28, 2020. The institutional review committee of Chitwan Medical College provided ethical approval for the research. Data were collected with an online questionnaire using Google forms. The questionnaire was sent out to 724 potential responders who included health care professionals from medical, dental, nursing, and allied health sciences in Chitwan Medical College. A convenient sampling method was used for data collection. Data were analyzed using Statistical Package of Social Sciences.
A total of 181 respondents completed the web survey. Overall, a total of 35 (19.3%) respondents were found to have "Good" knowledge; 105 (58%) respondents had "Fair" knowledge and 41 (22.7%) respondents had "Poor" knowledge regarding various aspects of COVID-19. There was no significant difference among the various health professional groups in their knowledge scores under the four knowledge domains.
The study of knowledge of health care professionals could act as a reference for the prevention and better management of COVID-19. This study shows that there is a need to implement periodic educational interventions and training programs on infection control practices for COVID-19 across all healthcare professions.

Globally, Overweight has reached epidemic proportions. It is an excessive accumulation of fat that may impair health. Overweight and obesity area major contributor to the global burden of non-communicable disease. The prevalence of overweight is commonly assessed by using Body Mass Index (BMI), where overweight is indicated by BMI greater or equal to 25. Overall, about 13% of the world's adult population was obese in 2016, among them women were more affected than men. Overall,female population is higher than male in Nepal and concentrating on Kaski district female population are significantly more than that of male as per population census of 2011. The objective of this study was to find out the prevalence of overweight among adult women.
This was a cross-sectional descriptive study, conducted among calculated sample size of 185 adult women of Lekhnath Metropolitian of Kaski district, over six months' period. Sampling technique was proportionate random sampling. Ethical approval was taken from Institutional Review Board (Ref no. 40/74/75). Anthropometric measurement was taken to calculate BMI. Collected data was entered in Epi data, which was then exported to SPSS version 20 for further analysis. Descriptive statistics was reported for demographic, socio-economic and various overweight related factors of the respondents as frequencies and percentage.
Out of 185 adult women, 69 (37.3%) of them were overweight, 30 (16.2%) of them were obese, and central obesity was seen among 97 (52.4%) women at 95% C.I.
The finding of this study shows prevalence of overweight and obesity was high. Regular Physical exercise and balanced diet should be followed to prevent overweight and noncommunicable diseases.

This was a descriptive cross-sectional study conducted in a tertiary care hospital from June to December 2019 after obtaining ethical approval from Institutional review board (reference number. 041-075/0760). A convenient sampling method was applied. Epidemiological factors, types of poison consumed, reason, motive, and place to take poison, time elapse in the presentation to the hospital were studied. Statistical analysis was done using statistical package for the social sciences version 20. Point estimate at 95% Confidence Interval was calculated along with frequency and proportion for binary data.
Out of 76 cases of acute poisoning, the organophosphorus poisoning was 18 (23.7%) followed by unknown 12 (15.8). Of total, 28 (36.8%) had quarrel before taking poison and 41 (53.9 %) had intention to commit suicide. Sixty-seven (88.2%) took a poison at home. The average elapsed time to the visit of the emergency department was 110±80 minutes.
The most common poisoning was organophosphorus with a suicide being the most common intention. Quarrel was the most frequent reason to take poison and the home was the most common place to take poison.

Ibrutinib has been studied as treatment for cGVHD in the adult population. Pediatric dosing and safety of ibrutinib are unknown. We conducted a retrospective review on the use of ibrutinib in 22 children with cGVHD at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. All patients received a dose of 250 mg/m2 orally, once daily. Responses were measured at 6 months after drug initiation using the 2014 NIH consensus panel response criteria. Twenty-two patients of median age 13.5 years received ibrutinib. cGVHD grades were severe (n = 15), moderate (n = 6), and mild (n = 1). Eight patients stopped ibrutinib prior to 3 months due to adverse events or death and could not be evaluated for 6-month response. Of the 14 evaluable patients, 12 achieved a partial response at 6 months and two patients had progressive disease. Seven evaluable patients with lung involvement had stable lung function at 6 months. One patient had EBV reactivation, and one patient developed pneumococcal sepsis despite appropriate prophylaxis while on ibrutinib therapy. No fungal infections occurred while on ibrutinib. Adverse events leading to discontinuation included recurrent fevers without a source, extensive bruising, oral bleeding, gastrointestinal distress, lower GI bleeding, dizziness, elevated transaminases, and pneumococcal sepsis. Ibrutinib administration of 250 mg/m2 oral daily shows promising responses in pediatric cGVHD. We utilized MH testing to evaluate cerebral vascular reactivity in fetuses with specific congenital heart disease (CHD). METHODS This cross-sectional study compares fetuses with complex CHD to controls without CHD. CHD cases were grouped by physiology left-sided obstructive lesion (LSOL), right-sided obstructive lesion (RSOL), and d-transposition of the great arteries (d-TGA). Subjects underwent MH testing during the 3rd trimester fetal echocardiogram. The pulsatility index (PI) was calculated for the middle cerebral artery (MCA), umbilical artery (UA) and branch pulmonary artery (PA). Comparisons were made between each CHD group and the control group at baseline and followingities of the fetal brain. Ibrutinib has been studied as treatment for cGVHD in the adult population. Pediatric dosing and safety of ibrutinib are unknown. We conducted a retrospective review on the use of ibrutinib in 22 children with cGVHD at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. All patients received a dose of 250 mg/m2 orally, once daily. Responses were measured at 6 months after drug initiation using the 2014 NIH consensus panel response criteria. Twenty-two patients of median age 13.5 years received ibrutinib. cGVHD grades were severe (n = 15), moderate (n = 6), and mild (n = 1). Eight patients stopped ibrutinib prior to 3 months due to adverse events or death and could not be evaluated for 6-month response. Of the 14 evaluable patients, 12 achieved a partial response at 6 months and two patients had progressive disease. Seven evaluable patients with lung involvement had stable lung function at 6 months. One patient had EBV reactivation, and one patient developed pneumococcal sepsis despite appropriate prophylaxis while on ibrutinib therapy. No fungal infections occurred while on ibrutinib. Adverse events leading to discontinuation included recurrent fevers without a source, extensive bruising, oral bleeding, gastrointestinal distress, lower GI bleeding, dizziness, elevated transaminases, and pneumococcal sepsis. Ibrutinib administration of 250 mg/m2 oral daily shows promising responses in pediatric cGVHD. CHD cases were grouped by physiology left-sided obstructive lesion (LSOL), right-sided obstructive lesion (RSOL), and d-transposition of the great arteries (d-TGA). Subjects underwent MH testing during the 3rd trimester fetal echocardiogram. Screening tests are a key step in the diagnosis of dementia and should therefore be highly sensitive to the detection of mild neurocognitive disorders (NCD). The Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) is the most commonly used screening method. The Montreal Cognitive Assessment (****) is a newer and less well-known screening tool, which has none of the limitations of the MMSE.
The aim of this study was to analyse the reliability of the Polish versions of **** 7.2 vs MMSE in the detection of mild NCD among people aged over 60.
The study was carried out at the Department and Clinic of Geriatrics from September 2014 to March 2017. The study included 281 participants, 91 of whom were assigned to the group without NCD. The other 190 had been diagnosed with mild NCD.
In the analysis of the ROC curve of the **** 7.2 results, the AUC was 0.925 (p < 0.001). The optimal cut-off point for mild NCD was 23/24 points, with sensitivity and specificity of 83.2% and 79.1%. Yet, neither the simultaneous tracking of two daily views on aging (i.e., daily subjective age and daily ageist attitudes) nor their interactive effect on mental health (i.e., depressive symptoms) has been explored. We hypothesized that (1) Days on which older adults feel older or report high ageist attitudes they would report higher depressive symptoms, (2) Combined older subjective age and high ageist attitudes will be associated with the highest daily depressive symptoms.
Community-dwelling older adults (N=134, mean age=69.66) completedmeasures of subjective age, ageist attitudes, and depressive symptoms for 10 consecutive days.

The purpose of this study was to conduct a systematic review (SR) of the literature to assess the effectiveness of specific chiropractic care options commonly used for postpartum low **** pain (LBP), pelvic girdle pain (PGP), or combination (LBP and PGP) pain.
A search strategy was developed. Interventions were those manual or other nonpharmacologic therapies commonly used by chiropractors (not requiring additional certifications). The outcomes were self-reported changes in pain or disability self-reported outcomes. We used the Scottish Intercollegiate Guideline Network checklists. Strength of the evidence (excluding cohort studies) was determined using an adapted version of the US Preventive Services Task Force criteria as described in the UK report.
Of the 1611 published articles, 16 were included. These were 5 SRs, 10 randomized controlled trials (RCTs), and 1 cohort study. Postpartum LBP (1 RCT) moderate, favorable strength for spinal manipulation therapy/mobilization. Postpartum PGP (4 RCTs) moderate, unclear strength for exercise; and inconclusive, unclear strength for patient education. The purpose of this study was to conduct a systematic review (SR) of the literature to assess the effectiveness of specific chiropractic care options commonly used for postpartum low back pain (LBP), pelvic girdle pain (PGP), or combination (LBP and PGP) pain. A search strategy was developed. Interventions were those manual or other nonpharmacologic therapies commonly used by chiropractors (not requiring additional certifications). The outcomes were self-reported changes in pain or disability self-reported outcomes. We used the Scottish Intercollegiate Guideline Network checklists. Strength of the evidence (excluding cohort studies) was determined using an adapted version of the US Preventive Services Task Force criteria as described in the UK report. β-carotene is an efficient antioxidant and its accumulation is an oxidative response to stressors. Dunaliella salina strain GY-H13 is rich in β-carotene under environmental stresses, which was selected as material to understand the molecular mechanism underlying β-carotene biosynthesis. Seven full length cDNA sequences in β-carotene biosynthesis pathway were cloned, including geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate synthase (GGPS), phytoene synthase (PSY), phytoene desaturase (PDS), 15-cis-zeta-carotene isomerase (ZISO), zeta-carotene desaturase (ZDS), prolycopene isomerase (CRTISO), lycopene beta-cyclase (LCYb). The seven protein sequences from the strain GY-H13 showed the highest similarity with other D. salina strains. Especially, PSY, PDS and LCYb protein sequences shared 100 % identity. Toxoplasmosis is a zoonotic food-borne disease caused by Toxoplasma gondii, a land-derived protozoan parasite that infects a broad range of terrestrial and aquatic hosts. We sampled a total of 382 individual Mediterranean mussels from May to August 2018 from seven production sites in the Gulf of Naples (Campania region). An additional sample including 27 farmed Mediterranean mussels was obtained in February 2018 from a mollusk depuration plant in Corigliano Calabro (Calabria region). T. gondii DNA was detected in 43 out of 409 (10.5%) Mediterranean mussels from seven out of eight sampling sites. The number of T. gondii copies/g in the digestive gland ranged from 0.14 to 1.18. Fragment analysis of Short Tandem Repeats (STRs) at 5 microsatellite loci was performed from 10 T. gondii PCR positive samples revealing the presence of five distinct genotypes including one corresponding to type I and four atypical genotypes. These findings suggest potential implications of epidemiological importance for human and animal health because both type I and atypical genotypes could be highly pathogenic. The results exhibit high correlation between antibiotic-resistant phenotype and genotype among the three strains. Most of the mobilized antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) are distributed on plasmids in the forms of transposons or integrons. Multidrug-resistant (MDR) regions of high homology are detected on plasmids of different E. coli isolates. Therefore, horizontal transfer of resistance genes has facilitated the transmission of antibiotic resistance between the environmental and avian bacteria, and the transfer of ARGs have involved multiple embedded genetic levels (transposons, integrons, plasmids, and bacterial lineages). Inspired by this, systematic metadata analysis was performed for the available sequences of mcr-1-bearing plasmids. Among these plasmids, IncHI2 plasmids carry the most additional ARGs. The composition of these additional ARGs varies according to their geographical distribution. The phylogenetic reconstruction of IncI2 and IncX4 plasmids provides the evidence for their multiregional evolution. Phylogenetic analysis at the level of mobile genetic element (plasmid) provides important epidemiological information for the global dissemination of mcr-1 gene. Highly homologous mcr-1-bearing IncI2 plasmids have been isolated from different regions along the East Asian-Australasian Flyway, suggesting that migratory birds may mediate the intercontinental transportation of ARGs. A lytic Yersinia phage X1 (Viruses; dsDNA viruses, no RNA stage; Caudovirales; and Myoviridae) was isolated. Phage X1 showed a broad host range and could effectively lyse 27/51 Y. enterocolitica strains covering various serotypes that cause yersiniosis in humans and animals (such as serotype O3 and serotype O8). The genome of this phage was sequenced and analyzed. No toxin, antibiotic-resistance or lysogeny related modules were found in the genome of phage X1. Studies of phage stability confirmed that X1 had a high tolerance toward a broad range of temperatures (4-60°C) and pH values (4-11) for 1 h. The ability to resist harsh acidic conditions and enzymatic degradation in vitro demonstrated that phage X1 is suitable for oral administration, and in particular, that this phage can pass the stomach barrier and efficiently reach the intestine in vivo without losing infectious ability. The potential of this phage against Y. enterocolitica infection in vitro was studied. In animal experiments, a single oral administration of phage X1 at 6 h post infection was sufficient to eliminate Y. enterocolitica in 33.3% of **** (15/45). In addition, the number of Y. enterocolitica strains in the **** was also dramatically reduced to approximately 103 CFU/g after 18 h compared with 107 CFU/g in the **** without phage treatment. Treatment with phage X1 showed significant improvement by intestinal histopathologic observations. Previous infection studies showed disruption of intercellular contacts, induction of epithelial apoptosis, and immune activation, all three contributing to intestinal barrier dysfunction leading to diarrhea. The present study aims to determine the impact of subepithelial immune cells on intestinal barrier dysfunction during Campylobacter jejuni infection and the underlying pathological mechanisms. Infection was performed in a co-culture of confluent monolayers of the human colon cell line HT-29/B6-GR/MR and THP-1 immune cells. Twenty-two hours after infection, transepithelial electrical resistance (TER) was decreased by 58 ± 6% compared to controls. The infection resulted in an increase in permeability for fluorescein (332 Da; 4.5-fold) and for FITC-dextran (4 kDa; 3.5-fold), respectively. In contrast, incubation of the co-culture with the pan-caspase inhibitor Q-VD-OPh during the infection resulted in a complete recovery of the decrease in TER and a normalization of flux values.

The results exhibit high correlation between antibiotic-resistant phenotype and genotype among the three strains. Most of the mobilized antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) are distributed on plasmids in the forms of transposons or integrons. Multidrug-resistant (MDR) regions of high homology are detected on plasmids of different E. coli isolates. Therefore, horizontal transfer of resistance genes has facilitated the transmission of antibiotic resistance between the environmental and avian bacteria, and the transfer of ARGs have involved multiple embedded genetic levels (transposons, integrons, plasmids, and bacterial lineages). Inspired by this, systematic metadata analysis was performed for the available sequences of mcr-1-bearing plasmids. Among these plasmids, IncHI2 plasmids carry the most additional ARGs. The composition of these additional ARGs varies according to their geographical distribution. The phylogenetic reconstruction of IncI2 and IncX4 plasmids provides the evidence for their multiregional evolution. Phylogenetic analysis at the level of mobile genetic element (plasmid) provides important epidemiological information for the global dissemination of mcr-1 gene. Highly homologous mcr-1-bearing IncI2 plasmids have been isolated from different regions along the East Asian-Australasian Flyway, suggesting that migratory birds may mediate the intercontinental transportation of ARGs. A lytic Yersinia phage X1 (Viruses; dsDNA viruses, no RNA stage; Caudovirales; and Myoviridae) was isolated. Phage X1 showed a broad host range and could effectively lyse 27/51 Y. enterocolitica strains covering various serotypes that cause yersiniosis in humans and animals (such as serotype O3 and serotype O8). The genome of this phage was sequenced and analyzed. No toxin, antibiotic-resistance or lysogeny related modules were found in the genome of phage X1. Studies of phage stability confirmed that X1 had a high tolerance toward a broad range of temperatures (4-60°C) and pH values (4-11) for 1 h. The ability to resist harsh acidic conditions and enzymatic degradation in vitro demonstrated that phage X1 is suitable for oral administration, and in particular, that this phage can pass the stomach barrier and efficiently reach the intestine in vivo without losing infectious ability. The potential of this phage against Y. enterocolitica infection in vitro was studied. In animal experiments, a single oral administration of phage X1 at 6 h post infection was sufficient to eliminate Y. enterocolitica in 33.3% of mice (15/45). In addition, the number of Y. enterocolitica strains in the mice was also dramatically reduced to approximately 103 CFU/g after 18 h compared with 107 CFU/g in the mice without phage treatment. Treatment with phage X1 showed significant improvement by intestinal histopathologic observations. A total of 27 patients who had stage II-IV hypopharyngeal cancer and underwent pharyngeal reconstruction with a submental flap by the senior author in both Department of Otolaryngology Head Neck Surgery, Chinese PLA General Hospital and Department of Otolaryngology Head Neck Surgery, Beijing Friendship Hospital, Capital Medical University.
96.3% (26/27) cases of submental island flap survived. There were two pharyngocutaneous fistulas, one recovered spontaneously, and the other was associated with flap necrosis, underwent neck debridement and flap removal. All except for one patient had decannulation of their nasogastric tube 2 weeks postoperatively. There was no evidence of a stricture or stenosis of the laryngopharynx, nor any sign of aspiration, except for one with esophageal inlet stricture caused by radiotherapy. There were two cases of obvious paraesthesia pharynges due to beard growth at the submental flap after reconstruction. 63.0% (17/27) patients are alive and 37% (10/27) have died of disease. The 3-year survival rate is 56.3% and the 5-year survival rate is 50.0%.

The impact of three process parameters (system throughput, blender speed, and compaction force) on tablet attributes is investigated using a full factorial experimental design. As expected, the compaction force was found to be the most significant process parameter. However, importantly, throughput was discovered to have a non-negligible impact which was previously unaccounted for. This impact is proposed to be related to differing levels of powder pre-compression. An empirical model for this relationship is regressed and incorporated into a flowsheet model. The flowsheet model is then used to develop an in silico design space which is compared favorably to that built from experiments. Moreover, in the future, the in silico design space based on the validated flowsheet model can provide better manufacturing flexibility and make control strategy development simpler.

We created a 41 propensity score matched sample of COVID-19 patients without and with tuberculosis, using COVID-19 surveillance data in the Philippines. We conducted a longitudinal cohort analysis of matched COVID-19 patients as of May 17, 2020, following them until June 15, 2020. The primary analysis estimated the risk ratios of death and recovery in patients with and without tuberculosis. Self-medication with antibiotics (SMA) is one of the most dangerous inappropriate antibiotic use behaviors. This study aims to investigate the impact of parental SMA for children before a consultation on their doctor's subsequent antibiotic prescribing behavior, including intravenous (IV) antibiotic use in the clinical setting of China.
A cross-sectional survey was conducted between June 2017 and April 2018 in three provinces of China. A total of 9526 parents with children aged 0-13 years were investigated. Data from 1275 parents who had self-medicated their children and then visited a doctor in the past month were extracted and analyzed.
One-third (410) of the studied children had parental SMA before the consultation and 83.9% of them were subsequently prescribed antibiotics by doctors. Children with parental SMA were more likely to be prescribed antibiotics (aOR = 7.79, 95% CI [5.74-10.58]), including IV antibiotics (aOR = 3.05, 95% CI [2.27-4.11]), and both oral and IV antibiotics (aOR = 3.42, 95% CI [2.42-4.84]), than children without parental SMA. Parents with SMA behaviors were more likely to request antibiotics (aOR = 4.05, 95% CI [2.59-6.31]) including IV antibiotics (aOR = 2.58, 95% CI [1.40-4.76]), and be fulfilled by doctors (aOR = 3.22, 95% CI [1.20-8.63]).
Tailored health education for parents is required in both community and clinical settings to discourage parental SMA for children. The doctors should not prescribe unnecessary antibiotics to reinforce parents' SMA behaviors. We recommend expanding the current IV antibiotics ban in outpatient settings of China to cover outpatient pediatrics.

A trial experiment was conducted to investigate physiological and developmental differences in Cd content in four flax cultivars ('AC Emerson', 'Flanders', 'CDC Bethune', and 'AC McDuff') as part of a study to provide information that will assist in the breeding of low Cd-accumulating flax cultivars. Our objective was to identify varietal differences in the uptake and distribution of Cd in various tissues among flax cultivars grown in naturally Cd-containing soil in a controlled environment.

Cadmium concentration was higher in roots and leaves, relative to all other tissues, with a general trend of decreasing Cd content over time within leaves and stems. Directing gaze towards auditory events is a natural behavior. In addition to the well-known accuracy of auditory elicited gaze responses for normal binaural listening, their latency is a measure of possible clinical interest and methodological importance. The aim was to develop a clinically feasible method to assess sound localization latency (SLL), and to study SLL as a function of simulated unilateral hearing loss (SUHL) and the relationship with accuracy. Eight healthy and normal-hearing adults (18-40 years) participated in this study. Horizontal gaze responses, recorded by non-invasive corneal reflection eye-tracking, were obtained during azimuthal shifts (24 trials) of a 3-min continuous auditory stimulus. In each trial, a sigmoid function was fitted to gaze samples. Latency was estimated by the abscissa corresponding to 50% of the arctangent amplitude. SLL was defined as the mean latency across trials. SLL was measured in normal-hearing and simulated SUHL conditions (SUHL30 and SUHL43 mean threshold of 30 dB HL and 43 dB HL across 0.5, 1, 2, and 4 kHz). In the normal-hearing condition, the mean ± SD SLL was 280 ± 40 ms (n = 8) with a test-retest SD = 20 ms. A linear mixed model showed a statistically significant effect of listening condition on SLL. The SUHL30 and SUHL43 conditions revealed a mean SLL of 370 ± 49 ms and 540 ± 120 ms, respectively. Repeated measures correlation analysis showed a clear relationship between SLL and the average sound localization accuracy (R2 = 0.94). The rapid and reliable method to obtain SLL may be an important clinical tool for evaluation of binaural processing. Future studies in clinical cohorts are needed to assess whether SLL may reveal information about binaural processing abilities beyond that afforded by sound localization accuracy.
Outpatient heart failure (HF) care involves intensive self-management (SM). Effective HF SM is associated with improved outcomes. Homelessness poses challenges to successful SM.
To identify the ways in which homelessness may impede successful SM of HF and engagement with the healthcare system.
We conducted open-ended, semi-structured interviews with homeless adults with HF. Data were analyzed by a multidisciplinary team using a grounded theory approach.
We interviewed 19 participants, 11 (58%) of whom were homeless at the time of interview. Interviews revealed a combination of influences on HF SM. Major themes included instability and lack of routine, tradeoffs between basic necessities and HF SM, and stigmatization by healthcare providers.
Anticipatory guidance aimed at the unique challenges faced by homeless individuals with HF may aid successful SM. HF providers should simlpify medication regimes and engage in non-stigmatizing discourse. Larger-scale interventions include the creation of medical respite programs.

The prognostic factors for patients with T1-2 colorectal cancer (CRC) after radical resection and the predictive value of lymph node distribution (LND) system compared with TNM system for these patients have not been well studied.
From September 2009 and June 2016, a total of 541 consecutive patients with T1-2 CRC who accepted radical resection in two centers were included in this study. Their clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis were analyzed using univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses. The predictive value of LND system for these patients were compared with the TNM system.
Univariate analysis revealed that patients' gender, tumor size, LNM and lymphovascular or nerve invasion were prognostic factors for the disease-free survival (DFS) (p<0.05). Multivariate regression analysis confirmed the gender, LNM and lymphovascular or nerve invasion were independent prognostic factors for the DFS (p<0.05). The LND system had a better predictive value than the TNM system in lymph node-positive T1-2 CRC patients (P=0.026 vs p=0.148).

Background We examined whether telecommunication-device-based distance interviews are inferior to face-to-face interviews in terms of facilitating behavioral changes and disease management in patients with diabetic nephropathy. We also examined the feasibility of a newly designed six-month telenursing program. Methods This study represents a post-hoc analysis of data from a randomized controlled trial, in which we compared the efficacy of remote self-management education with that of direct education for patients with diabetic nephropathy. The participants were 40 company employees, who were randomly divided into two groups. Over 6 months, the intervention group (n = 21) received three distance interviews using a tablet computer. Meanwhile, the control group (n = 19) received three face-to-face interviews. In addition, both groups received biweekly nine telephone calls. A triangulation approach was used. We first compared the two groups in inferiority tests. Then, we analyzed data from semi-structured intervicators, we found that the distance method is not inferior to the direct face-to-face method. However, when considering long-term effects, based on the respective degrees of improvement in behavioral change, the direct method seems to be more effective. Osteoarthritis is a common chronic debilitating joint disease mainly affecting the elderly. Several studies showed that inflammation triggered by factors like biomechanical stress is involved in the development of osteoarthritis. This stimulates the release of early-stage inflammatory cytokines like interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β), which in turn induces the activation of signaling pathways, such as nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB), phosphoinositide 3-kinase/protein kinase B (PI3K/AKT), and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK). These events, in turn, generate more inflammatory molecules. Subsequently, collagenase like matrix metalloproteinases-13 (MMP-13) will degrade the extracellular matrix. As a result, anatomical and physiological functions of the joint are altered. Nicotine is the toxic and addictive component of tobacco products, like cigarettes, that negatively affects the immune system. Here, we examined the effect of nicotine on the IL-22 pathway that protects lung function by increasing transepithelial resistance and epithelial cell regeneration and repair. Our results indicate that exposure to nicotine impairs the regenerative capacity of primary bronchial epithelial cells in scratch assays. IL-22 at 100 ng/ml significantly improved wound healing in epithelial cells; however, the exposure to nicotine hampered the IL-22-mediated effect of wound healing. Investigation into the mechanisms showed that IL-22 receptor, IL-22Rα1, was downregulated in the presence of nicotine as determined by q-PCR and flow cytometry. We also investigated the effect of nicotine on IL-22 production by T cells. Results indicate that nicotine inhibited the secretion of IL-22 from T cells in response to aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) ligand, FICZ. Altogether, the data suggests that nicotine negatively influences the IL-22-IL-22R axis. This impairment may contribute to the nicotine-mediated detrimental effects on lung function. CAIA was induced in BALB/c **** and treated daily with 1 mg/kg or 4 mg/kg PAR. Clinical paw inflammation was scored daily, and mechanical hypersensitivity was assessed on alternate days. At end point, bone volume and swelling in the paws were assessed using micro-CT. Paw tissue sections were assessed for inflammation and pre-/osteoclast-like cells. The lumbar spinal cord and the periaqueductal grey (PAG) and rostral ventromedulla (RVM) regions of the brain were stained for glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and ionised calcium-binding adaptor molecule 1 (IBA1) to assess for glial reactivity. Paw scores increased in CAIA **** from days 5-10 and were reduced with 1 mg/kg and 4 mg/kg PAR on days 8-10. Osteoclast-like cells on the bone surface of the radiocarpal joint and within the soft tissue of the hind paw were significantly lower following PAR treatment (p less then 0.005). Male **** were randomly assigned into four groups **** fed a basal diet, **** fed a serine- and glycine-deficient (SGD) diet, **** injected with D-galactose and fed a basal diet, and **** injected with D-galactose and fed an SGD diet. The results showed that D-galactose resulted in oxidative and inflammatory responses, while serine deficiency alone showed no such effects. However, serine deficiency significantly exacerbated oxidative stress and inflammation in D-galactose-treated ****. Male mice were randomly assigned into four groups mice fed a basal diet, mice fed a serine- and glycine-deficient (SGD) diet, mice injected with D-galactose and fed a basal diet, and mice injected with D-galactose and fed an SGD diet. The results showed that D-galactose resulted in oxidative and inflammatory responses, while serine deficiency alone showed no such effects. However, serine deficiency significantly exacerbated oxidative stress and inflammation in D-galactose-treated mice.
