  • Restoration of oscillations from an oscillation suppressed state in coupled oscillators is an important topic of research and has been studied widely in recent years. However, the same in the quantum regime has not been explored yet. Recent works established that under certain coupling conditions, coupled quantum oscillators are susceptible to suppression of oscillations, such as amplitude death and oscillation death. In this paper, for the first time, we demonstrate that quantum oscillation suppression states can be revoked and rhythmogenesis can be established in coupled quantum oscillators by controlling a feedback parameter in the coupling path. However, in sharp contrast to the classical system, we show that in the deep quantum regime, the feedback parameter fails to revive oscillations, and rather results in a transition from a quantum amplitude death state to the recently discovered quantum oscillation death state. We use the formalism of an open quantum system and a phase space representation of quantum mechanics to establish our results. Therefore, our study establishes that the revival scheme proposed for classical systems does not always result in restoration of oscillations in quantum systems, but in the deep quantum regime, it may give counterintuitive behaviors that are of a pure quantum mechanical origin.The study addresses the propagation of plane capillary gravity solitary waves of permanent form in a three layer formulation. The latter formulation is relevant to studies of capillary gravity waves in the transitional area between sea water and liquid carbon dioxide in the deep ocean. This has become an issue of importance for the secure storage of carbon dioxide, which is an environmental/technological problem in modern days. Therefore, we address a capillary-gravity wave motion beyond the well-examined cases of a free surface or two fluid flows. It is shown that in the considered formulation, capillary-gravity solitary waves of finite amplitude obey an integro-differential equation. This equation contains both Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) and Benjamin-Ono (BO) dispersion laws and a specific nonlinearity, which depends on the properties of the stratified layer. Capillary (KdV-type) dispersion dominates if the thickness of the stratified layer is d≪d∗. However, many models do not account for the resource consumption needed for the neural networks to synchronize. To fill this gap, we introduce a phenomenological Kuramoto model evolving under the excitability resource constraints. We demonstrate that the interplay between increased excitability and explosive synchronization induced by the hierarchical organization of the network forces the system to generate short-living extreme synchronization events, which are well-known signs of epileptic brain activity. Finally, we establish that the network units occupying the medium levels of hierarchy most strongly contribute to the birth of extreme events emphasizing the focal nature of their origin.This work is devoted to deriving the Onsager-Machlup action functional for a class of stochastic differential equations with (non-Gaussian) Lévy process as well as Brownian motion in high dimensions. It is shown that with the help of directional antennas connected to these sensitive elements, it is possible to create receivers with spatial resolution for visualizing a part of the surrounding space in artificial radio light. Radio light images of a room have been obtained. The possibility to detect changes associated with the emergence of new objects on these images is demonstrated.We present a data-driven method for the early detection of thermoacoustic instabilities. Recurrence quantification analysis is used to calculate characteristic combustion features from short-length time series of dynamic pressure sensor data. Features like recurrence rate are used to train support vector machines to detect the onset of instability a few hundred milliseconds in advance. The performance of the proposed method is investigated on experimental data from a representative LOX/H 2 research thrust chamber. In most cases, the method is able to timely predict two types of thermoacoustic instabilities on test data not used for training. The results are compared with state-of-the-art early warning indicators.

    To evaluate patient-specific 3-dimensional computed tomography (3D CT) scans of hips with increased FV and control hips for differences in range of motion, location and prevalence of osseous posterior intra- and extra-articular hip impingement.

    Osseous 3D models based on segmentation of 3D CT scans were analyzed for 52 hips (38 symptomatic patients) with positive posterior impingement test and increased FV (>35°). There were 26 hips with an increased McKibbin instability index >70 (unstable hips). Patients were mainly female (96%), with an age range of 18 to 45 years. Of them, 21 hips had isolatresection of the lesser trochanter.
    Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) players have a greater incidence of lower extremity injury compared with male players, yet no data exist on functional outcomes after Achilles tendon rupture (ATR).

    To evaluate the effect of Achilles tendon repair on game utilization, player performance, and career longevity in WNBA athletes.

    Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3.

    WNBA players from 1997 to 2019 with a history of ATR (n = 12) were matched 12 to a healthy control group. Player characteristics, game utilization, and in-game performance data were collected for each athlete, from which the player efficiency rating (PER) was calculated. Statistical analysis was performed comparing postinjury data to preinjury baseline as well as cumulative career data. Changes at each time point relative to the preinjury baseline were also compared between groups.

    Of the 12 players with ATR, 10 (83.3%) returned to play at the WNBA level at a mean (±SD) of 12.5 ± 3.3 months. Four players participated in only 1 WNs shorter than that of healthy controls. There was a significant decrease in game utilization and performance in the year after return to play compared with healthy controls.
    The majority of WNBA players who sustained ATR were able to return to sport after their injury; however, their career longevity was shorter than that of healthy controls. Since folate is required for the generation and maintenance of T reg , we propose that one mechanism for microbiome-based control of AD/AID is via folate-dependent induction of GI tract T reg , particularly colonic T reg, via anergic T cells (T an). Hence, folate supplementation has potential prophylactic and/or therapeutic benefit in AID/AD.

    To describe the impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on the diagnosis of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and deaths from opportunistic infections in Guatemala.

    A retrospective study was conducted to investigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on people with HIV at a referral clinic (Clinica Familiar Luis Angel García, CFLAG), as well as the disruption of services at a diagnostic laboratory hub (DLH) which provides diagnosis for opportunistic infections to a network of 13 HIV healthcare facilities. Comparative analysis was undertaken using the months March-August from two different time periods (i) pre-COVID-19 (2017-2019); and (ii) during the COVID-19 period (2020).

    During the COVID-19 period, 7360 HIV tests were performed at Clinica Familiar Luis Angel García, compared with an average of 16,218 tests in the pre-COVID-19 period; a reduction of 54.7% [95% confidence interval (CI) 53.8-55.4%],Deaths from opportunistic infections at 90 days were 10.7% higher in 2020 compared with 2019 (27.3% vs 16.6%; P = 0.05). Clinical samples sent to the DLH for diagnosis of opportunistic infections decreased by 43.7% in 2020 (95% CI 41.0-46.2%).

    Double-dose prophylaxis was introduced in March 2017 for patients weighting >80 kg. The period April 2014 to March 2017 ('before') was compared to the period March 2017 to June 2019 ('after') regarding the impact on deep SSIs.

    A total of 9318 surgeries 'before' were compared to 7455 interventions 'after' the introduction of double-dose prophylaxis. Baseline demographic characteristics (age, sex, BMI, American Society of Anesthesiologists score, and duration of surgery) were similar. In the period 'after', 3088 cases (3088/16 773; 18%) received double-dose prophylaxis. Overall, 82 deep SSIs were observed (0.5%). The pathogens were resistant to the standard cefuroxime prophylaxis in 30 cases (30/82; 37%). The leading cause of epilepsy-related premature mortality is a sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP). The mechanism of SUDEP remains largely unresolved and the lack of preclinical models to study the potential mechanism underlying SUDEP is a problem.

    By combining electroencephalographic (EEG) and electrocardiogram (ECG) measurements within a well described LQT1 dog model, we investigated the effect of the proconvulsive compound pentylenetetrazol (PTZ), and its link to the induction of Torsades de Pointes (TdP).

    blocker JNJ 282 induced a pronounced QT (QTc) prolongation in anaesthetized dogs (Long QT syndrome type 1 or LQT1 group) compared to dogs that were not treated (control group). Subsequent PTZ administration induced spiking on the EEG signal and seizures in both groups, but only R-on-T, salvo and TdP were observed in dogs of the LQT1 group.

The aim of this pilot study was to evaluate the benefits of frenulectomy by laser on body posture and on the scapular (shoulders) anteroposterior movement.   • Cholangiocarcinoma is a highly malignant tumor. It is not sensitive to radiotherapy and chemotherapy and has a poor prognosis. At present, there is no effective treatment. As a new method for treating cancer, magnetic fluid hyperthermia has been clinically applied to a variety of cancers in recent years. This article introduces it to the cholangiocarcinoma model and systematically studies the effect of magnetic fluid hyperthermia on cholangiocarcinoma. Starting from the theory of magnetic fluid heating, the electromagnetic and heat transfer models were constructed in the finite element simulation software COMSOL using the Pennes biological heat transfer equation. The Helmholtz coil was used as an alternating magnetic field generating device. The relationship between the magnetic fluid-related properties and the heating power was analyzed according to Rosensweig's theory. After the multiphysics coupling simulation was performed, the electromagnetic field and thermal field distribution in the hyperthermia region were obtained. The results showed that the magnetic field distribution in the treatment area was uniform, and the thermal field distribution met the requirements of hyperthermia. After the magnetic fluid injection, the cholangiocarcinoma tissue warmed up rapidly, and the temperature of tumor tissues could reach above 42 °C, but the surrounding healthy tissues did not heat up significantly. At the same time, it was verified that the large blood vessels around the bile duct, the overflow of the magnetic fluid, and the eddy current heat had little effect on thermotherapy. The results of this article can provide a reference for the clinical application of magnetic fluid hyperthermia for cholangiocarcinoma.The feasibility of ultrasound backscatter homodyned K model parametric imaging (termed homodyned K imaging) to monitor coagulation zone during microwave ablation was investigated. Two recent estimators for the homodyned K model parameter, RSK (the estimation method based on the signal-to-noise ratio, the skewness, and the kurtosis of the amplitude envelope of ultrasound) and XU (the estimation method based on the first moment of the intensity of ultrasound, X statistics and U statistics), were compared. Firstly, the ultrasound backscattered signals during the microwave ablation of porcine liver ex vivo were processed by the noise-assisted correlation algorithm, envelope detection, sliding window method, digital scan conversion and color mapping to obtain homodyned K imaging. Then 20 porcine livers' microwave ablation experiments ex vivo were used to evaluate the effect of homodyned K imaging in monitoring the coagulation zone. The results showed that the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of the RSK method was 0.77 ± 0.06 (mean ± standard deviation), and that of the XU method was 0.83 ± 0.08 (mean ± standard deviation). The accuracy to monitor the coagulation zone was (86 ± 10)% (mean ± standard deviation) by the RSK method and (90 ± 8)% (mean ± standard deviation) by the XU method. Compared with the RSK method, the Bland-Altman consistency for the coagulation zone estimated by the XU method and that of actual porcine liver tissue was higher. The time for parameter estimation and imaging by the XU method was less than that by the RSK method. In this paper, a linear discriminant analysis (LDA) method is used for multi-dimensional feature pattern recognition to evaluates the rationality and the accuracy of the proposed model. Four sets of comparative trials were carried out for the model evaluation. The first group applied the GMM-HMM to model the scanpath, and the average accuracy of the classification could reach 0.507, which is greater than the opportunity probability of three classification (0.333). The second set of trial applied TSS method, and the mean accuracy of classification was raised to 0.610. The third group combined GMM-HMM with TSS method, and the mean accuracy of classification reached 0.602, which was more stable than the second model. Finally, comparing the model analysis results with the saccade amplitude (SA) characteristics analysis results, the modeling analysis method is **** better than the basic information analysis method. The resting state EEG signals of 31 stroke rehabilitation patients were collected and divided into stimulation group (16 cases) and control group (15 cases). The Pearson correlation coefficients were calculated between the channels, brain functional network of two groups were constructed before and after stimulation, and five characteristic parameters were analyzed and compared such as node degree, clustering coefficient, characteristic path length, global efficiency, and small world attribute. This article divides the brain-apparatus conversation modes from the perspective of biological and non-biological apparatus, including the brain-biological organ interaction (BAC-1), brain-external non-living equipment and environment interaction (BAC-2), and the fusion agents of these two interactions (BAC-3), and explains the ways and potential applications in different modes.Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is an emerging non-invasive brain stimulation technique. However, the rehabilitation effect of tDCS on stroke disease is unclear. In this paper, based on electroencephalogram (EEG) and complex network analysis methods, the effect of tDCS on brain function network of stroke patients during rehabilitation was investigated. The resting state EEG signals of 31 stroke rehabilitation patients were collected and divided into stimulation group (16 cases) and control group (15 cases). The Pearson correlation coefficients were calculated between the channels, brain functional network of two groups were constructed before and after stimulation, and five characteristic parameters were analyzed and compared such as node degree, clustering coefficient, characteristic path length, global efficiency, and small world attribute. The results showed that node degree, clustering coefficient, global efficiency, and small world attributes of brain functional network in the tDCS group were significantly increased, characteristic path length was significantly reduced, and the difference was statistically significant ( P less then 0.

This exploratory analysis compared patients with moderate stroke (baseline NIHSS score of 4 to 5) with patients with less severe stroke (NIHSS score of 0 to 3). A total of 9983 patients with stroke were included in the present analysis, after excluding 2 patients with NIHSS scores greater than 5 and 1031 patients with transient ischemic attack.     Previously we presented swarm, an open-source amplicon clustering program that produces fine-scale molecular operational taxonomic units (OTUs) that are free of arbitrary global clustering thresholds. Here we present swarm v3 to address issues of contemporary datasets that are growing towards tera-byte sizes.

    When compared to previous swarm versions, swarm v3 has modernized C ++ source code, reduced memory footprint by up to 50%, optimized CPU-usage and multithreading (more than 7 times faster with default parameters), and it has been extensively tested for its robustness and logic.

    Cancer impacts both patients and their family caregivers. Evidence suggests that caregiving stress, including the strain of taking on a new role, can elevate the risk of numerous health conditions, including high blood pressure (BP). However, the caregiver's psychosocial experiences, including their interpersonal relationship with the patient, may buffer some of the negative physiological consequences of caregiving.

    To examine the influence of psychosocial contextual variables on caregiver ambulatory BP.

    Participants were 81 spouse-caregivers of patients with advanced gastrointestinal or thoracic cancer. For an entire day at home with the patient, caregivers wore an ambulatory BP monitor that took readings at random intervals. Immediately after each BP reading, caregivers reported on physical circumstances (e.g., posture, activity) and psychosocial experiences since the last BP measurement, including affect, caregiver and patient disclosure, and role perceptions (i.e., feeling more like a spouse vs. cardisclosure on caregiver psychological and physical health.

For this reason, we developed the 2DProts database, which contains secondary structure 2 D diagrams for all domains from the CATH and all proteins from PDB databases. These 2 D diagrams are generated based on a whole protein family, and they also consider information about the 3 D arrangement of secondary structure elements. Pseudomonas syringae, a plant pathogenic bacterium, has a multicopper oxidase, CumA. Multicopper oxidases have ability to degrade plant cell wall component, lignin. Once P. syringae enter apoplast and colonize, they start to disrupt plant immunity. Therefore, deeper understanding of multicopper oxidases from plant pathogens, help to invent measures to prevent invasion into plant cell, which bring agricultural benefits. Several biochemical studies have reported lower activity of CumA compared with other multicopper oxidase called CotA. However, the mechanisms underlying the difference in activity have not yet been revealed. In order to acquire insight into them, we conducted a biophysical characterization of PsCumA. Our results show that PsCumA has weak type I copper EPR signal, which is essential for oxidation activity. We propose that difference in the coordination of copper ions may decrease reaction frequency.

  • Delay in reporting foot symptoms in patients with diabetes to health-care professionals is said to be responsible for limb amputation. While reasons for these delays have been investigated elsewhere, they are not well documented in Nigeria. This study explored the causes of delayed presentation in a Nigerian sample of patients with diabetic foot ulcers.

    The study followed an explorative qualitative design in which the lived experience of eight participants with diabetes were explored. The participants completed in-depth interviews which were digitally audio-recorded and transcribed verbatim. Data were analysed thematically using deductive reasoning.

    The study identified four themes which included knowledge and awareness of foot challenges, risk perception, health seeking triggers and behaviours and competing priority as the factors responsible for delay in presentation of diabetic foot complications.

A systematic literature review was conducted on the experimental literature published up to April 2020. A total of 25 studies were included. Studies were evaluated on methodological quality, paradigm used, and level of evidence. The results showed that implicit paradigms are as effective as explicit paradigms in both groups of children. Studies are predominantly experimental in nature involving mostly upper limb aiming tasks. The few studies that were performed outside the lab (n = 5) suggest superior efficacy of the implicit paradigm. Methodological quality varied between studies and was not always of sufficient standard to allow conclusions. In particular, manipulation checks were only performed in 13 studies (52% of all studies), limiting conclusions.     To assess differences in the recognition of facial expressions of emotion among caregivers of older people with different levels of empathy.

    A cross-sectional study was conducted with 158 caregivers of older adults who provided care in family residences or nursing homes. The caregivers were divided into three groups based on the score of the multidimensional Interpersonal Reactivity Index "lower empathy", "intermediate empathy", and "higher empathy". Data collection involved the administration of a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Emotion Recognition Test, and the Patient Health Questionnaire.

    No significant differences were found among the groups in terms of sociodemographic variables. Regarding clinical characteristics, the "higher empathy" group had more depressive symptoms than the other groups (
    = .001). Moreover, the "higher empathy" group exhibited greater accuracy at recognizing the expression of sadness than the "lower empathy" group (
    = .033). The recognition of sadness remained significant in the analysis of variance adjusted for depressive symptoms (
    < .05).

    Caregivers with higher levels of empathy showed greater accuracy at recognizing sadness emotion compared to caregivers with lower levels of empathy. Additionally, caregivers with greater empathy have more depressive symptoms.

    Delay in reporting foot symptoms in patients with diabetes to health-care professionals is said to be responsible for limb amputation. While reasons for these delays have been investigated elsewhere, they are not well documented in Nigeria. This study explored the causes of delayed presentation in a Nigerian sample of patients with diabetic foot ulcers. The study followed an explorative qualitative design in which the lived experience of eight participants with diabetes were explored. The participants completed in-depth interviews which were digitally audio-recorded and transcribed verbatim. Data were analysed thematically using deductive reasoning. The study identified four themes which included knowledge and awareness of foot challenges, risk perception, health seeking triggers and behaviours and competing priority as the factors responsible for delay in presentation of diabetic foot complications. A systematic literature review was conducted on the experimental literature published up to April 2020. A total of 25 studies were included. Studies were evaluated on methodological quality, paradigm used, and level of evidence. The results showed that implicit paradigms are as effective as explicit paradigms in both groups of children. Studies are predominantly experimental in nature involving mostly upper limb aiming tasks. The few studies that were performed outside the lab (n = 5) suggest superior efficacy of the implicit paradigm. Methodological quality varied between studies and was not always of sufficient standard to allow conclusions. In particular, manipulation checks were only performed in 13 studies (52% of all studies), limiting conclusions. Leaf extract of the plant was analyzed by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) technique. Biosynthetic pathways of signature aroma compounds were deduced utilizing bioinformatic databases and reviewing literatures. A rare fragrant biomolecule '2-n-Heptylcyclopentanone' and 22 other aroma impacting biomolecules were detected and functional attributes were deliberately scrutinized.     Observational U.S. cohort study of emergency department (ED) patients undergoing measurement of cTnT during the transition from 4th (pre-implementation March 12, 2018, to September 11, 2018) to 5th generation (Gen) cTnT (post-implementation September 12, 2018, to March 11, 2019). Diagnoses were adjudicated following the Fourth Universal Definition of Myocardial Infarction (MI). Resources evaluated included length of stay, hospitalizations, and cardiac testing.

    In this study, 3,536 unique patients were evaluated, including 2,069 and 2,491 ED encounters pre- and post-implementation. Compared with 4th Gen cTnT, encounters with≥1 cTnT >99th percentile increased using 5th Gen cTnT (15% vs. 47%; p<0.0001). Acute MI (3.3% vs. 8.1%; p<0.0001) and myocardial injury (11% vs. 38%; p<0.0001) increased. Although hy, overall resource use did not increase. Among those without cTnT increases, there were more ED discharges and fewer cardiac tests.

    The aim of this study was to investigate the associations of statin use with cognitive decline and incident dementia among older adults.

    This analysis included 18,846 participants≥65 years of age in a randomized trial of aspirin, who had no prior cardiovascular events, major physical disability, or dementia initially and were followed for 4.7 years. Outcome measures included incident dementia and its subclassifications (probable Alzheimer's disease, mixed presentations); mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and its subclassifications (MCI consistent with Alzheimer's disease, other MCI); and changes in domain-specific cognition, including global cognition, memory, language and executive function, psychomotor speed, and the composite of these domains. Associations of baseline statin use versus nonuse with dementia and MCI outcomes were examined using Cox proportional hazards models and with cognitive change using linear mixed-effects models, adjusting for potential confounders. The impact of statin lipophilicity on these associations was further examined, and effect modifiers were identified.

    Statin use versus nonuse was not associated with dementia, MCI, or their subclassifications or with changes in cognitive function scores over time (p > 0.05 for all). No differences were found in any outcomes between hydrophilic and lipophilic statin users. Baseline neurocognitive ability was an effect modifier for the associations of statins with dementia (p for interaction<0.001) and memory change (p for interaction=0.02).

    In adults≥65 years of age, statin therapy was not associated with incident dementia, MCI, or declines in individual cognition domains. These findings await confirmation from ongoing randomized trials.

In this study, using the seedlings of Arabidopsis thaliana L. wild type (WT), PLDα1 defective mutant (pldα1), GPA1 defective mutant (gpa1) and pldα1/gpa1 double mutant as materials, the effect of stomatal apertures responding to Oridonin and the functions of PLDα1 and GPA1 in this response were investigated. The results showed that 60 μmol·L-1 of Oridonin induced stomatal closure and significantly increased the relative expression levels of GPA1 and PLDα1. Treatment options are limited in these care contexts and care homes predominantly use absorbent pads to contain incontinence, rather than actively treat it. Transcutaneous posterior tibial nerve stimulation is a non-invasive, safe, low-cost intervention that is effective in reducing urinary incontinence in adults.
