Potential participants were screened by both telephone and intake interview. Exclusion criteria were alcohol or substance use disorders, preexisting brain disorder or previous neurosurgery, recent travel across more than 2 time zones or shift work. Assessments included a clinical interview, questionnaires, 2 weeks of actigraphy and a sleep diary, and a dim-light melatonin onset test. The main outcome measure was the proportion of patients with CRSWDs. RESULTS Of the 50 participants (32 [64%] female; median age 39.5 yr), 13 (26% [standard deviation 12%]) had an CRSWD. The most common circadian diagnosis was delayed sleep-wake phase disorder (10 participants [20%]). INTERPRETATION The prevalence of CRSWDs may be exceptionally high among people with chronic insomnia symptoms following mTBI. Proper detection and treatment of CRSWDs in this population is essential to facilitate recovery. This study aimed to estimate whether bipolar disorder or schizophrenia is associated with disparities in cervical cancer screening rates. METHODS This was a retrospective population-based matched case-cohort study of community-dwelling women aged 19-69 in Ontario using linked health administrative databases. We used odds ratios (ORs), hazards ratios and rate ratios (RRs) adjusted for demographic characteristics and relevant comorbidities to compare cervical cancer screening outcomes between women with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder or schizophrenia to women without that history matched on key demographic characteristics, between 2003 and 2015. RESULTS In total, 1 245 457 women were identified for inclusion in the analyses, 119 948 with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder or schizophrenia, and 1 125 509 without. Over a median follow-up duration of 12.5 years, women with the exposure were 36% less likely to be screened (OR 0.64, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.64-0.65) than those without, and they took longer to undergo screening (median 18.98 mo v. 16.63 mo; χ2 = 3718.2, p less then 0.001). They were also screened less frequently (median 6.16 yr v. 4.69 yr per screen; RR 0.85, 95% CI 0.84-0.85). These effects were consistent after we excluded the 86 475 women (6.9%) with suspected major depressive disorder, and they were larger for the 59 141 women (4.7%) not attached to a family physician. INTERPRETATION Women with bipolar disorder or schizophrenia were less likely to undergo cervical cancer screening, their screening was delayed, and they were screened at a lower rate compared to women without this psychiatric history. Tumour mutational burden (TMB) predicts improved response and survival to immunotherapy. In this pilot study, we optimized targeted next-generation sequencing (tNGS) to estimate TMB in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
We sequenced 48 non-paired samples (21 fresh-frozen [FF] and 27 paraffin-embedded [FFPE]), among which 11 FFPE samples were pretreated with uracil-DNA glycosylase (UDG). Thirty samples satisfied post-sequencing quality control. High/low TMB was defined by median number of mutations/Mb (***/Mb), across different minimum allele frequency (MAF) thresholds (≥0.05, ≥0.1 and ≥0.2).
Eligible patients (n=29) were cirrhotic (84%) with TNM stage I-II HCC (75%). FFPE samples had higher TMB (median 958.39 vs 2.51 ***/Mb, P<.0001), estimated deamination counts (median 1335.50 vs 0, P<.0001) and C>T transitions at CpG sites (median 60.3% vs 9.1%, P=.002) compared to FF. UDG-treated samples had lower TMB (median 4019.92 vs 353 ***/Mb, P=.041) and deamination counts (median 6393.5 vs 328.5, P=.041) vs untreated FFPE. At 0.2 MAF threshold with UDG treatment, median TMB was 5.48 (range 1.68-16.07) and did not correlate with salient pathologic features of HCC, including survival.

However, the roles of MYB TFs in regulating plant architecture and yield potential remain poorly understood. Here, we studied the roles of the dehydration-inducible GmMYB14 gene in regulating plant architecture, high-density yield and drought tolerance through the brassinosteroid (BR) pathway in soybean. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/pembrolizumab.html GmMYB14 was shown to localize to nucleus and has a transactivation activity. Stable GmMYB14-overexpressing (GmMYB14-OX) transgenic soybean plants displayed a semi-dwarfism and compact plant architecture associated with decreased cell size, resulting in a decrease in plant height, internode length, leaf area, leaf petiole length and leaf petiole angle, and improved yield in high density under field conditions. Results of the transcriptome sequencing suggested the involvement of BRs in regulating GmMYB14-OX plant architecture. Indeed, GmMYB14-OX plants showed reduced endogenous BR contents, while exogenous application of brassinolide could partly rescue the phenotype of GmMYB14-OX plants. Furthermore, GmMYB14 was shown to directly bind to the promoter of GmBEN1 and up-regulate its expression, leading to reduced BR content in GmMYB14-OX plants. GmMYB14-OX plants also displayed improved drought tolerance under field conditions. GmBEN1 expression was also up-regulated in the leaves of GmMYB14-OX plants under polyethylene glycol treatment, indicating that the GmBEN1-mediated reduction in BR level under stress also contributed to drought/osmotic stress tolerance of the transgenic plants. Our findings provided a strategy for stably increasing high-density yield and drought tolerance in soybean using a single TF-encoding gene.
The collaborative care model is effective in delivering evidence-based psychosocial oncology care. Social workers comprise the largest proportion of psychosocial oncology providers in the United States. This study describes the process and perceptions of clinical oncology social workers at a large comprehensive cancer center who transitioned to practicing as care managers within collaborative care.
We describe the process of engaging clinical oncology social workers as care managers as part of the implementation of collaborative care at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. We then present survey results from 2017 and 2020 of participating social workers' perceptions of the collaborative care model's advantages and disadvantages.
Since the implementation of collaborative care at our institution, key functions of the social worker as care manager were defined. The majority of social workers surveyed in 2017 and 2020 agreed that collaborative care led to improved clinical outcomes, timely access to care, and nal resources, and is favorably viewed by participating social workers in terms of perceived benefits to patients and their own professional roles.
Partial pharyngeal defect reconstruction after total laryngectomy with regional and free fasciocutaneous ***** has been described. However, mucosal ***** for such defects have not been reported.
An islanded facial artery musculo-mucosal (FAMM) flap was used to reconstruct a partial pharyngeal defect after total laryngectomy. Surgical, swallowing, and speech outcomes were analyzed at 6 months postoperatively.
At 6 months, videofluoroscopy showed no post swallow residue, fistula, trachea-esophageal puncture leak, or stricture. Perceptual analysis of recorded cold speech, native language passage sample, and the intelligibility analysis was good. The patient had normal mouth opening and marginal mandibular nerve function.
Islanded FAMM flap is ideal for partial pharyngeal defects, which cannot be closed primarily. Speech and swallowing outcomes were good. It provided a robust and predictable blood supply and adequate reach. There was no significant donor site morbidity. The musculo-mucosal flap replaced "like-with-like" tissue.

Herein, interface engineering and heteroatom doping were used to synthesize V-doped sulfide/phosphide heterostructures on nickel foam (V-Ni3 S2 /Nix Py /NF) by phosphating treatment at low temperature. The incorporation of V can adjust the electronic structure of Ni3 S2 , expose more active sites, and protect the 3D structure of Ni foam from damage. Meanwhile, the heterogeneous interface formed between Ni3 S2 and Nix Py can provide abundant active sites and accelerate electron transfer. As a result, the V-Ni3 S2 /Nix Py /NF nanosheet catalyst exhibits outstanding activity in the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) with an extremely low overpotential of 90 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm-2 and stable durability in alkaline solution, which exceeds those most of the previously reported Ni-based materials. This work shows that rational design by interfacial engineering and metal-atom incorporation has a significant influence for efficient hydrogen evolution.

Circulating neutrophil, lymphocyte and NLR were sequentially measured in 659 patients admitted for STEMI and in 103 COVID-19 patients. The dynamics detected in STEMI (within a few hours) were replicated in COVID-19 (within a few days). In both entities patients with events and with severe structural damage displayed higher neutrophil and lower lymphocyte counts. Length of stay (LOS) estimates are important for patients, doctors and hospital administrators. However, making accurate estimates of LOS can be difficult for medical patients.
This review was conducted with the aim of identifying and assessing previous studies on the application of machine learning to the prediction of total hospital inpatient LOS for medical patients.
A review of machine learning in the prediction of total hospital LOS for medical inpatients was conducted using the databases PubMed, EMBASE and Web of Science.
Of the 673 publications returned by the initial search, 21 articles met inclusion criteria. Of these articles the most commonly represented medical specialty was cardiology. Studies were also identified that had specifically evaluated machine learning LOS prediction in patients with diabetes and tuberculosis. The performance of the machine learning models in the identified studies varied significantly depending on factors including differing input datasets and different LOS thrbetter assess performance and to allow replication and validation. In particular, prospective validation studies and studies assessing the clinical impact of such machine learning models would be beneficial. This article is protected by copyright. Twenty eight patients with haemophilic knee arthropathy were randomized to an experimental group or to a control group (without intervention). However, no research has yet characterized the GWM boundary in ASD based on measures of diffusion. Here, we registered diffusion tensor imaging data to the structural T1-weighted images of 92 adults with ASD and 92 matched neurotypical controls in order to examine between-group differences and group-by-sex interactions in fractional anisotropy and mean diffusivity sampled at the GWM boundary, and at different sampling depths within the superficial white and into the gray matter. As hypothesized, we observed atypical diffusion at and around the GWM boundary in ASD, with between-group differences and group-by-sex interactions depending on tissue class and sampling depth. Furthermore, we identified that altered diffusion at the GWM boundary partially (i.e., ~50%) overlapped with atypical gray-white matter tissue contrast in ASD. Our study thus replicates and extends previous work highlighting the GWM boundary as a crucial target of neuropathology in ASD, and guides future work elucidating etiological mechanisms.Bacterial infections and incomplete biomaterial integration are major problems that can lead to the failure of medical implants. The peptidic platforms significantly improved the adhesion of mesenchymal stem cells and showed antimicrobial effects against Staphylococcus aureus. Of note is that peptides bearing spacers that were too long displayed the lowest efficiency. Subsequently, we designed a platform replacing linear RGD by cyclic RGD; this further enhanced eukaryotic cell adhesion while retaining excellent antimicrobial properties, thus being a suitable candidate for tissue engineering applications.

By searching pear genome databases, we identified three C4H genes (PbC4H1, PbC4H2 and PbC4H3) encoding proteins that share higher identity with bonafide C4Hs from several species with typical cytochrome P450 domains, suggesting that all three PbC4Hs are also bonafide C4Hs that have close evolutionary relationships with C4Hs from other land plants. Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) results indicated that the three PbC4Hs were specifically expressed in one or more tissues. The expression levels of PbC4H1 and PbC4H3 first increased and then decreased during pear fruit development. Treatment with exogenous hormones (ABA, MeJA, and SA) altered the expression of the three PbC4Hs to varying degrees. By searching pear genome databases, we identified three C4H genes (PbC4H1, PbC4H2 and PbC4H3) encoding proteins that share higher identity with bonafide C4Hs from several species with typical cytochrome P450 domains, suggesting that all three PbC4Hs are also bonafide C4Hs that have close evolutionary relationships with C4Hs from other land plants. Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) results indicated that the three PbC4Hs were specifically expressed in one or more tissues. The expression levels of PbC4H1 and PbC4H3 first increased and then decreased during pear fruit development. Treatment with exogenous hormones (ABA, MeJA, and SA) altered the expression of the three PbC4Hs to varying degrees. The expression levels of the PbC4Hs were first induced and then decreased under ABA treatment, while MeJA treatment significantly increased the expression levels of the PbC4Hs. Following treatment with SA, expression levels of PbC4H1 and PbC4H2 increased, while expression levels of PbC4H3 decreased. Brain networks are flexible and reconfigure over time to support ongoing cognitive processes. However, tracking statistically meaningful reconfigurations across time has proven difficult. This has to do largely with issues related to sampling variability, making instantaneous estimation of network organization difficult, along with increased reliance on task-free (cognitively unconstrained) experimental paradigms, limiting the ability to interpret the origin of changes in network structure over time. However, individual variation in intelligence exists despite brain size and recent studies have shown that a simple unifactorial view of the neurobiology underpinning cognitive ability is probably unrealistic. Educational attainment (EA) is often used as a proxy for cognitive ability since it is easily measured, resulting in large sample sizes and, consequently, sufficient statistical power to detect small associations. This study investigates the association between three global (total surface area (TSA), intra-cranial volume (ICV) and average cortical thickness) and 34 regional cortical measures with educational attainment using a polygenic scoring (PGS) approach. Analyses were conducted on two independent target samples of young twin adults with neuroimaging data, from Australia (N = 1097) and the USA (N = 723), and found that higher EA-PGS were significantly associated with larger global brain size measures, ICV and TSA (R2 = 0.006 and 0.016 respectively, p less then 0.001) but not average thickness. At the regional level, we identified seven cortical regions-in the frontal and temporal lobes-that showed variation in surface area and average cortical thickness over-and-above the global effect. These regions have been robustly implicated in language, memory, visual recognition and cognitive processing. Additionally, we demonstrate that these identified brain regions partly mediate the association between EA-PGS and cognitive test performance. Altogether, these findings advance our understanding of the neurobiology that underpins educational attainment and cognitive ability, providing focus points for future research. Understanding of the biology of foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) has grown considerably since the nucleotide sequence of the viral RNA was determined. The ability to manipulate the intact genome and also to express specific parts of the genome individually has enabled detailed analyses of viral components, both RNA and protein. Such studies have identified the requirements for specific functional elements for virus replication and pathogenicity. Furthermore, information about the functions of individual virus proteins has enabled the rational design of cDNA cassettes to express non-infectious empty capsid particles that can induce protective immunity in the natural host animals and thus represent new vaccine candidates. Similarly, attempts to block specific virus activities using antiviral agents have also been performed. However, currently, only the well-established, chemically inactivated FMDV vaccines are commercially available and suitable for use to combat this important disease of livestock animals. These vaccines, despite certain shortcomings, have been used very successfully (e.g. in Europe) to control the disease but it still remains endemic in **** of Africa, southern Asia and the Middle East. Hence there remains a significant risk of reintroduction of the disease into highly susceptible animal populations with enormous economic consequences. MicroRNAs are small noncoding RNAs playing an important role in host response to pathogenic infection. Here we show that IBDV infection induced the demethylation of the pre-miR-27 promoter and upregulated gga-miR-27b-3p expression. We found that ectopic expression of miR-27b-3p in DF-1 cells enhanced the expression of chicken IFN-β, IRF3 and NF-κB, via directly targeting cellular suppressors of cytokine signaling 3 and 6 (SOCS3 and 6), inhibiting IBDV replication in host cells, while inhibition of endogenous miR-27b-3p by its inhibitors suppressed the expression of IFN-β, IRF3 and NF-κB, enhancing SOCS3 and 6 expressions and facilitating IBDV replication. Furthermore, transfection of DF-1 cells with miR-27b-3p markedly increased phosphorylation of STAT1 on Tyr701 in cells post chIFN-γ treatment. On the contrary, inhibition of endogenous miR-27b-3p reduced phosphorylation of STAT1 on Tyr701 in cells with chIFN-γ treatment. These findings indicate that gga-miR-27b-3p serves as an inducible antiviral mediator in host response to IBDV infection. Orf, a poxviral skin infection of small ruminants is caused by orf virus (ORFV) of the genus Parapoxvirus of the Poxviridae family. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is an important virulence factor that is responsible for proliferative lesions in parapoxviral infections. VEGF gene shows high intra- and inter-species variability. Two variants of VEGF have been described globally in ORFV, viz. NZ2- and NZ7-like. In the present study, ORFV isolates of different geographic regions of India were analysed on the basis of the VEGF gene. Indian ORFV isolates showed 95.7-100% nucleotide (nt) and 78.4-99.3% amino acid (aa) identity with each other, except ORFV-Assam/LK/14 and ORFV-Meghalaya/03 which shared 85.1-88.35% and 79.1-81.8% identity, at nt and aa levels, respectively with other Indian ORFV isolates. All Indian ORFVs under the study demonstrated 83.5-99.1% nt and 80.5-97.9% aa identity with NZ7-like VEGF as compared to 41.2-44.8% nt and 30.7-38.4% aa identity with NZ2-like VEGF on comparison with global ORFV strains.

In this study, we investigated the therapeutic effects and the underlying mechanisms of SO against collagen type II (C II)-induced RA in rats as well as the interleukin (IL)-1β-induced human synovial SW982 and MH7A cells. For the in vivo studies, thirty-six Wistar male rats were randomly arranged to six groups based on the body weight, and then C II-induced to RA model for 15 days, followed by treatment with the 50% ethanolic extract of SO (SOE, 0.16, 0.78, and 1.56 g/kg) for 35 days. The results suggested that SOE significantly inhibited the formation of pannus (synovial hyperplasia to the articular cavity) and attenuated the cartilage damaging and bone erosion in the CIA-induced rats' hind paw joints. Moreover, SOE decreased the production of C-reactive protein (CRP) in the serum and the expression of IL-6 and IL-1β in the joint muscles, as well as recovered the decreased regulatory T lymphocytes. The results obtained from the in vitro studies showed that SOE (50, 100, and 200 µg/ml) not only inhibited the proliferation, migration, and invasion of human synovial SW982 cells but also decreased the IL-1β-induced expression of IL-6 and IL-8 both in SW982 and MH7A cells. Besides, SOE reduced the expression of COX-2, NLRP3, and MMP9, and increased the expression of MMP2 in the IL-1β-induced SW982 cells. Furthermore, SOE blocked the activation of NF-κB and reduced the phosphorylation of MAPKs and the expression of AP-1. In conclusion, SOE attenuated the C II-induced RA through inhibiting of MAPKs/NF-κB/AP-1-mediated synovial hyperplasia and inflammation.
The quality and rationality of many recently registered clinical studies related to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) needs to be assessed. Hence, this study aims to evaluate the current status of COVID-19 related registered clinical trial.
We did an electronic search of COVID-19 related clinical studies registered between December 1, 2019 and February 21, 2020 (updated to May 28, 2020) from the
, and collected registration information, study details, recruitment status, characteristics of the subjects, and relevant information about the trial implementation process.
A total of 1,706 studies were included 10.0% of which (n=171) were from France, 943 (55.3%) used an interventional design, and 600 (35.2%) used an observational design. Most of studies (73.6%) aimed to recruit fewer than 500 people. Interferon was the main prevention program, and antiviral drugs were the main treatment program. Hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine (230/943, 24.4%) were widely studied. Some registered clinical trials are incomplete in content, and 37.4% of the 1,706 studies may have had insufficient sample size.

The cell-surface transmembrane glycoprotein CD44 binds to the extracellular domain of hyaluronic acid (HA), and is overexpressed in breast, ovarian, lung, and stomach cancer. In this study, an HA-based nano-carrier incorporating doxorubicin (DOX) and cisplatin (CDDP) was synthesized as a CD44-targeting anti-cancer drug delivery system, and its tumor inhibition effects against CD44+ breast cancer cells were evaluated in vitro and in vivo. These dual drug-loaded HA micelles (HA-DOX-CDDP) exhibited significantly enhanced drug release under acidic conditions, and showed higher cellular uptake and stronger cellular growth inhibition than free drugs against 4T1 (CD44+) breast cancer cells. In contrast, no significant differences in growth inhibition and cellular uptake were observed between HA-DOX-CDDP and free drugs in NIH-3T3 (CD44-) control cells. Furthermore, HA-DOX-CDDP micelles exhibited stronger inhibitory effects and lower systemic toxicity than free drugs in a 4T1 mammary cancer-bearing mouse model, as determined using immunofluorescence and histological analyses. Therefore, HA-DOX-CDDP micelles represent a promising drug delivery system that exhibits acid-sensitive drug release, CD44-targeted delivery, and excellent biocompatibility and biodegradation. These properties resulted in excellent tumor accumulation and reduced adverse effects, indicating that HA-DOX-CDDP micelles have promising potential applications in chemotherapy for breast cancer.

Hence, this study aims to evaluate the current status of COVID-19 related registered clinical trial. We did an electronic search of COVID-19 related clinical studies registered between December 1, 2019 and February 21, 2020 (updated to May 28, 2020) from the , and collected registration information, study details, recruitment status, characteristics of the subjects, and relevant information about the trial implementation process. A total of 1,706 studies were included 10.0% of which (n=171) were from France, 943 (55.3%) used an interventional design, and 600 (35.2%) used an observational design. Most of studies (73.6%) aimed to recruit fewer than 500 people. Interferon was the main prevention program, and antiviral drugs were the main treatment program. Hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine (230/943, 24.4%) were widely studied. Some registered clinical trials are incomplete in content, and 37.4% of the 1,706 studies may have had insufficient sample size. The cell-surface transmembrane glycoprotein CD44 binds to the extracellular domain of hyaluronic acid (HA), and is overexpressed in breast, ovarian, lung, and stomach cancer. In this study, an HA-based nano-carrier incorporating doxorubicin (DOX) and cisplatin (CDDP) was synthesized as a CD44-targeting anti-cancer drug delivery system, and its tumor inhibition effects against CD44+ breast cancer cells were evaluated in vitro and in vivo. These dual drug-loaded HA micelles (HA-DOX-CDDP) exhibited significantly enhanced drug release under acidic conditions, and showed higher cellular uptake and stronger cellular growth inhibition than free drugs against 4T1 (CD44+) breast cancer cells. In contrast, no significant differences in growth inhibition and cellular uptake were observed between HA-DOX-CDDP and free drugs in NIH-3T3 (CD44-) control cells. Furthermore, HA-DOX-CDDP micelles exhibited stronger inhibitory effects and lower systemic toxicity than free drugs in a 4T1 mammary cancer-bearing mouse model, as determined using immunofluorescence and histological analyses. However, the PMF method has its own drawbacks because of its reliance on a ligand binding/unbinding pathway that is free of steric obstructions from the receptor atoms, the method has difficulty treating ligands with buried atoms. To overcome the limitation in the standard PMF approach and enable buried ligands to be treated, here we develop a new method called AlchemPMF in which steric obstructions along the physical pathway for binding are alchemically removed. We have tested the new approach on two important drug targets involving charged ligands. One is HIV-1 integrase bound to an allosteric inhibitor; the other is the human telomeric DNA G-quadruplex in complex with a natural product protoberberine buried in the binding pocket. The glutathione S-transferase (GST) activity in vivo was assayed, and compound 4(S15) revealed an inspiring safener activity comparable to commercialized safeners isoxadifen-ethyl and BAS-145138. The molecular docking model exhibited that the competition at the active sites of target enzymes between compound 4(S15) and nicosulfuron was investigated with respect to herbicide detoxification.

Chorioamnionitis, or intraamniotic infection, is a common condition, carrying an increased risk of intrapartum cesarean delivery (CD). The morbidity related to chorioamnionitis is more common in those undergoing CD, as compared to those with successful vaginal delivery. We aimed to examine the risk factors associated with CD among women with chorioamnionitis.

The rate of CD was significantly higher in nulliparous as compared to parous parturients (26.9% vs. 16.9%, P = 0.008), and in those with fever onset at latent phase as compared to those in whom fever appeared at active labor (≥ 6cm) (47.0% vs. 18.1%, P < 0.001). In a multivariate analysis, CD was positively associated with onset of fever at latent phase (aOR [95% CI] 4.75 (3.54, 6.32), P < 0.001), nulliparity (aOR [95% CI] 3.25 (1.98, 5.34), P < 0.001), maternal age (aOR [95% CI] 1.52 (1.10, 2.09), P = 0.01) and birth weight (aOR [95% CI] 1.23 (1.04, 1.44), P = 0.01).

Fractures of the scaphoid account for 60-70% of all wrist bone fractures. The results of treatment in terms of bone healing vary depending on the type and location of the fracture, the time elapsed since the injury, the type of surgical treatment. Nonunion occurs in 5-15% of the cases on average. The purpose of this paper is to compare the surgical techniques and results of treating scaphoid nonunion (SNU) with osteoplastic xenografts of bovine origin or a vascularized autograft of the distal part of the dorsal radius.
We compare two groups of patients with symptomatic SNU, treated surgically with either a vascularized graft (n = 15) or a xenograft of bovine origin (n = 15). In the presurgical stage, the demographic characteristics of the patients, the time elapsed between injury and surgery, and classification of the injury (Schonberg, Herbert-Fisher, and Geissler-Slade) were recorded. One year following surgery, bone healing, total duration of the treatment, complications, the Mayo wrist score, and answers to the DASH questionnaire were analyzed.
No statistically significant differences between the two groups of patients were observed for bone healing (86.7% vs 80%) or functional results. A highly significant difference was observed with respect to duration of the surgical intervention in favor of xenografts.

Fractures of the acromion and the scapular spine are serious complications after reverse total shoulder arthroplasty. They concern about 4 to 5% of the patients and always result in a significant deterioration of shoulder function. Different causes have been taken into consideration, particularly stress or fatigue fractures. The purpose of the present study was to analyse our own cases and to discuss the causes reported in the literature.
We reviewed our shoulder arthroplasty registry and the consultation reports of the last tenyears. The charts and radiographs of all patients who had a post-operative fracture of the acromion or the scapular spine were carefully examined and the results were compared with those of an age- and gender-matched control group.
Twelve patients with an average age of 79years sustained a fracture of the acromion (n = 6) or the scapular spine (n = 6). The time interval between the operation and the fracture averaged 26months and ranged from threeweeks to 70months. Eight patientstures after RSA are the result of increased tension in the deltoid or stress fractures. In our series, the majority of the fractures were related to a fall. Implantation of a reverse prosthesis exposes the acromion and makes it more vulnerable to direct trauma. Non-traumatic fractures were associated with poor bone quality.

Seeking conditions to reduce the time it takes for rhizobia to infect P. vulgaris root, we decided to explore the nodulation properties of Rhizobium etli CE3 pMP604, a strain that constitutively produces Nod factors through a flavonoids-independent transcriptional activation which is often used to purify Nod factors. The purpose of this paper is to compare the surgical techniques and results of treating scaphoid nonunion (SNU) with osteoplastic xenografts of bovine origin or a vascularized autograft of the distal part of the dorsal radius. We compare two groups of patients with symptomatic SNU, treated surgically with either a vascularized graft (n = 15) or a xenograft of bovine origin (n = 15). In the presurgical stage, the demographic characteristics of the patients, the time elapsed between injury and surgery, and classification of the injury (Schonberg, Herbert-Fisher, and Geissler-Slade) were recorded. One year following surgery, bone healing, total duration of the treatment, complications, the Mayo wrist score, and answers to the DASH questionnaire were analyzed. No statistically significant differences between the two groups of patients were observed for bone healing (86.7% vs 80%) or functional results. A highly significant difference was observed with respect to duration of the surgical intervention in favor of xenografts. The xenograft method is simple and relatively acceptable, providing good results in terms of healing and functionality. Fractures of the acromion and the scapular spine are serious complications after reverse total shoulder arthroplasty. They concern about 4 to 5% of the patients and always result in a significant deterioration of shoulder function. Different causes have been taken into consideration, particularly stress or fatigue fractures. The purpose of the present study was to analyse our own cases and to discuss the causes reported in the literature. We reviewed our shoulder arthroplasty registry and the consultation reports of the last tenyears. The charts and radiographs of all patients who had a post-operative fracture of the acromion or the scapular spine were carefully examined and the results were compared with those of an age- and gender-matched control group. Twelve patients with an average age of 79years sustained a fracture of the acromion (n = 6) or the scapular spine (n = 6). The time interval between the operation and the fracture averaged 26months and ranged from threeweeks to 70months. Eight patientstures after RSA are the result of increased tension in the deltoid or stress fractures. In our series, the majority of the fractures were related to a fall. Implantation of a reverse prosthesis exposes the acromion and makes it more vulnerable to direct trauma. Non-traumatic fractures were associated with poor bone quality. Rhizobium etli CE3-DsRed pMP604 drives infection 12-24 h earlier than R. etli CE3-DsRed and it is an excellent tool in live-cell imaging studies of IT developement in P. vulgaris roots. The study of the cellular dynamics of nodulation has frequently been limited by the difficulty of performing live-cell imaging in nodule primordia and legume roots, which are constituted by multiple cell layers, such is the case of Phaseolus vulgaris. Seeking conditions to reduce the time it takes for rhizobia to infect P. vulgaris root, we decided to explore the nodulation properties of Rhizobium etli CE3 pMP604, a strain that constitutively produces Nod factors through a flavonoids-independent transcriptional activation which is often used to purify Nod factors. Even though the strain infects 12-24h earlier than the parental R. etli CE3 strain, infection thread (IT) formation, nodule organogenesis processes and N -fixation activity are similar for both strains.
