PARTICIPANTS A hypothetical cohort of women aged 25-65 years tested in the National Health Service (NHS) Cervical Screening Programme (CSP) for first call or routine recall testing. METHODS A decision tree parameterised with data from the CSP (2017/18) and the HORIZON study. Uncertainty analyses were conducted using data from the FOCAL and GAST studies, other DNA HPV tests in addition to one-way and probabilistic sensitivity and scenarios analyses, to test the robustness of results. INTERVENTIONS Aptima mRNA HR-HPV assay and a DNA HR-HPV assay (cobas 4800 HPV assay). MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Primary total colposcopies and total costs for the cohort. Secondary total HPV and cytology tests, number lost to follow-up. RESULTS At baseline for a population of 2.25 million women, an estimated £15.4 million (95% credibility intervals (CI) £6.5 to 24.1 million) could be saved and 28 009 (95% CI 27 499 to 28 527) unnecessary colposcopies averted if Aptima mRNA assays are used instead of a DNA assay, with 90 605 fewer unnecessary HR-HPV and 253 477 cytology tests performed. These savings are due to a lower number of HPV positive samples in the mRNA arm. When data from other primary HPV screening trials were compared, results indicated that using the Aptima mRNA assay generated cost savings and reduced testing in every scenario.   • Evaluation of the quality of evidence will be conducted using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) system. RESULTS The present study will assess the effects of smoking and alcohol drinking on non-pathologic bone fracture healing in adult patients. CONCLUSION We hope that this systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis will provide high quality evidence on dose-response between smoking, alcohol drinking, and bone fracture healing. METHODS Based on articles published up to December 2017, a literature search of PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), and Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) databases was conducted to identify eligible studies. Overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS) with hazard ratios (HRs), and toxicities with odds ratios (ORs) were analyzed. RESULTS In total, 7 studies comprising 687 patients were identified for this meta-analysis. RH showed a significant trend toward improved survival outcomes compared with those of CRT, regardless of OS (HR = 0.49, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.36-0.67, P  less then  .001); or PFS (1.61, 95% CI 1.15-2.26, P = .005) for IB2-IIA cervical cancer. Subgroup analysis revealed that stage IB2 cervical cancer patients obtained better OS (HR = 0.36, 95% CI 0.23-0.56, P  less then  .001; heterogeneity P = .32, I = 13%). However, a higher incidence of grade 3/4 genitourinary abnormalities was evident with RH (OR = 2.3, 95% CI 1.42-3.87, P = .021). The subjects will be performed from 1 to 3 times only on the day of the procedure. The primary outcomes will be measured using pain visual analog scale score and the secondary outcomes will include verbal rating scale and the time at which the pain disappears after blood collection (second), the total number of "nonbleeding" cases and subjects, the number of "blood collection failure" and subjects, the presence of "delayed hemostasis," and the number of subjects. Repeated-measure analysis will be used to measure primary efficacy based on full analysis set. DISCUSSION This study has limited inclusion and exclusion criteria and a well-controlled intervention, and it will be the first randomized controlled trial to investigate pain of bloodletting device using the principle of "prestimulation neurodisturbance."   • Though long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs) are highly effective, have minimal side effects, require minimal follow-up, and are low cost, only 10% of contraceptives used in Ethiopia are LARCs. The reason for this low uptake is not understood at the country or regional level. Therefore, this study identified determinants of LARC utilization in Northwest Ethiopia.

    A facility-based unmatched case control study, using LARC users as cases and short- acting reversible contraception (SARC) users as controls, had been conducted at fourteen public health institutions in Northwest Ethiopia. A systematic random sampling technique was used to select participants with a 12 case to control ratio (n = 1167). Binary logistic regression analysis was used to identify determinants of LARC utilization among family planning service users.

Model 1 had 68% accuracy, with 1% variance and an algorithm weight of 27.35; Model 2 had 68% accuracy, with 1% variance and an algorithm weight of 33.62 and Model 3 had 77% accuracy, with 1% variance and an algorithm weight of 34.70. All diagnostic codes from the past 5 years of hospitalisation records and all drug codes from prescriptions dispensed during the past 240 days were extracted.
    Though long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs) are highly effective, have minimal side effects, require minimal follow-up, and are low cost, only 10% of contraceptives used in Ethiopia are LARCs. The reason for this low uptake is not understood at the country or regional level. Therefore, this study identified determinants of LARC utilization in Northwest Ethiopia. A facility-based unmatched case control study, using LARC users as cases and short- acting reversible contraception (SARC) users as controls, had been conducted at fourteen public health institutions in Northwest Ethiopia. A systematic random sampling technique was used to select participants with a 12 case to control ratio (n = 1167). Binary logistic regression analysis was used to identify determinants of LARC utilization among family planning service users. Wealth status [AOR1.87, 95%CI (1.08, 3.24)], history of abortion [AOR2.69, 95%CI (1.41, 5.12)], limiting family size [AOR 2.38, 95%CI (1.01, 5.62)], good knowledge about LARCs [AOfluence of partners on LARC utilization. It is also recommended that, future qualitative research further explore perceptions of LARC use. Professional support, favorable attitude towards LARC use, high economic status, history of abortion, advantage of less frequent visits, having good knowledge towards LARC and interest of limiting births were significantly associated with LARC Utilization. We then unite existing methodological SDM practices that aim to increase model accuracy through accounting for multiple global change stressors, dispersal, or evolution, while shifting our focus to model feasibility. We finally propose a roadmap harmonizing model accuracy and feasibility, applicable to both common and rare species, particularly those with poor dispersal abilities. This roadmap (a) paves the way for an overarching SDM framework allowing comparison and synthesis of different SDM studies and (b) could advance SDM to a level that allows systematic integration of SDM outcomes into effective conservation plans.The applicability of evolutionary biology principles to diseases has been largely questioned by the medical field. In turn, this has had a profound and lasting impact on the awareness of evolution in medicine among physicians. For both the evolutionary and medical communities to reach a common perspective and obtain a greater frame-work of medical thought, a comprehensive view of the evolution of the healthy human being needs to be introduced as a starting point during the premedical curriculum. Here, we present our views on the ongoing challenges that have caused the continued division between the evolutionary fields and medicine, and provide solutions to help bridge the gap for an interdisciplinary field of evolution in medicine.While academia is moving forward in terms of diversifying recruitment of undergraduate and graduate students, diverse representation is still not found across the academic hierarchy. At the graduate level, new discussions are emerging around efforts to improve the experiences of women and underrepresented minorities through inclusive graduate programming. Inclusive graduate programs are that which actively center and prioritize support for diverse experiences, identities, career goals, and perspectives, from recruitment through graduation. Establishing regular and rigorous evaluation of equity and inclusion efforts and needs is a critical component of this work. This is recognized by funding agencies that increasingly require reporting on inclusion efforts; here, we suggest use of a systems change framework for these evaluations. A systems change approach emphasizes three levels explicit change (e.g., policies), semi-explicit change (e.g., power dynamics), and implicit change (e.g., biases). We use the Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior (EEB) PhD Program at the University of Texas at Austin in an exercise to (a) identify areas of concern regarding inclusive programming voiced by graduate students, (b) categorize efforts to address these concerns, and (c) integrating and evaluating which areas of the systems change framework show the greatest progress or potential for progress. We argue this framework is particularly useful for academic systems as they are complex, composed of variable individuals, and must address diverse stakeholder needs.There is extensive choice in R to support meta-analyses.Two packages in this ecosystem include meta and metafor and provide an excellent opportunity to apply a structured checklist previously developed for contrasts between R packages relevant to challenges in ecology and evolution.Meta is a direct, intuitive choice for rapid implementation of general meta-analytical statistics.     IV.Currently, there is no gold standard treatment for Extraskeletal Myxoid Chondrosarcomas (EMC) making wide margin surgical resection the most effective alternative treatment. Nevertheless, in previous preclinical studies our lab demonstrated the potential of the hypoxia-activated prodrug (HAP) ICF05016 on EMC murine model inoculated with the H-EMC-SS human cell line. The aim of this study was to assess, in vivo, the relevance of the combination of this HAP with External Beam Radiotherapy (EBR). Firstly EMC-bearing **** were treated with 6 Gy or 12 Gy of EBR (single 6 MV photon). Then for combination of HAP and EBR, animals received 6 doses of ICF05016 (46.8 μmol/kg, intravenously) at 4-day intervals, with 6 Gy EBR performed 24 h after the 3rd dose of HAP. Animals were monitored throughout the study for clinical observations (tumour growth, side effects) and survival studies were performed. From tumour samples, PCNA, Ki-67 and p21 expressions were used as markers of proliferation and cell cycle arrest. Statistical significances were determined using Kruskall-Wallis and log rank tests. The radiosensitivity of the EMC model was demonstrated at 12 Gy with significant inhibition of tumour growth. Then, the HAP strategy potentiated EBR efficacy at a lower dose (6 Gy) by improving survival without generating side effects. Thus, results of this study showed the potential interest of ICF05016 for the combination with EBR in the management of EMC.
    The most common osteoporotic fragility fractures are hip, vertebral and upper extremity fractures. An association with increased mortality is widely described with their occurrence. Fracture-specific associated death rates were determined in a 2-year follow-up for patients treated on an orthogeriatric ward. These were compared amongst each other, examined for changes with age and their impact on the relative mortality risk in relation to the corresponding population.

    We assessed all patients that were treated in the course of a year on an orthogeriatric ward and suffered from the following injuries hip (HF), vertebral (VF) and upper extremity fractures (UEF). In a 2-year follow-up it was possible to determine the month of death in the case of the patient's decease. Pairwise comparisons of the three fracture type death rates were performed through Cox-Regression. We stratified the fracture-dependent absolute mortality and age-specific mortality risk (ASMR) for age groups 71-80, 81-90 and 91-95.

Nevertheless, in previous preclinical studies our lab demonstrated the potential of the hypoxia-activated prodrug (HAP) ICF05016 on EMC murine model inoculated with the H-EMC-SS human cell line. The aim of this study was to assess, in vivo, the relevance of the combination of this HAP with External Beam Radiotherapy (EBR). Firstly EMC-bearing mice were treated with 6 Gy or 12 Gy of EBR (single 6 MV photon). Then for combination of HAP and EBR, animals received 6 doses of ICF05016 (46.8 μmol/kg, intravenously) at 4-day intervals, with 6 Gy EBR performed 24 h after the 3rd dose of HAP. Animals were monitored throughout the study for clinical observations (tumour growth, side effects) and survival studies were performed. From tumour samples, PCNA, Ki-67 and p21 expressions were used as markers of proliferation and cell cycle arrest. Statistical significances were determined using Kruskall-Wallis and log rank tests. The radiosensitivity of the EMC model was demonstrated at 12 Gy with significant inhibition of tumour growth. Then, the HAP strategy potentiated EBR efficacy at a lower dose (6 Gy) by improving survival without generating side effects. Thus, results of this study showed the potential interest of ICF05016 for the combination with EBR in the management of EMC. The most common osteoporotic fragility fractures are hip, vertebral and upper extremity fractures. An association with increased mortality is widely described with their occurrence. Fracture-specific associated death rates were determined in a 2-year follow-up for patients treated on an orthogeriatric ward. These were compared amongst each other, examined for changes with age and their impact on the relative mortality risk in relation to the corresponding population. We assessed all patients that were treated in the course of a year on an orthogeriatric ward and suffered from the following injuries hip (HF), vertebral (VF) and upper extremity fractures (UEF). In a 2-year follow-up it was possible to determine the month of death in the case of the patient's decease. Pairwise comparisons of the three fracture type death rates were performed through Cox-Regression. We stratified the fracture-dependent absolute mortality and age-specific mortality risk (ASMR) for age groups 71-80, 81-90 and 91-95. Overall, re-related mortality in the 2-year follow-up was comparable. We observed a reduction of relative mortality risk in the oldest patients. The impact of macrosomia on rates of false-positive results in the newborn screen has also not been well-studied. We test the hypothesis that macrosomia is an interfering factor for amino acids and/or acylcarnitines on the newborn screen. METHODS Newborn screening analytes determined by tandem mass spectroscopy were obtained from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment archives (2016-2018). This included metabolite concentrations obtained at 24-72 hours of life from newborns with birth weight 2500 to 3999 g (nonmacrosomic, n = 131 896) versus 4000 to 8000 g (macrosomic, n = 7806). Mother/infant phenotypic data were limited to information provided on the newborn screening dried blood spot card. Data were analyzed using Student t-test and chi-squared analysis. RESULTS Macrosomic newborns had elevations in C2, C3, dicarboxylic, and long-chain acylcarnitines (specifically C16 and C18 species). C3 and C181 were 2 to 3 times more likely to be above predetermined state cutoffs in macrosomic versus nonmacrosomic newborns (both male and female). MAIN CONCLUSIONS Macrosomia is an interfering factor for the analytes C3 and C181, leading to higher risk of false-positive results for methylmalonic/propionic acidemia and carnitine palmitoyl transferase type 2 deficiency, respectively. Thus, to improve crop yield, it is critical to explore the molecular mechanism governing the responses of hull-less barley to osmotic/drought stress conditions. FINDINGS In this study, we used quantitative proteomics by data-independent acquisition mass spectrometry to investigate protein abundance changes in tolerant (XL) and sensitive (DQ) cultivars. A total of 6,921 proteins were identified and quantified in all samples. Two distinct strategies based on pairwise and time-course comparisons were utilized in the comprehensive analysis of differentially abundant proteins. Further functional analysis of differentially abundant proteins revealed that some hormone metabolism-associated and phytohormone abscisic acid-induced genes are primarily affected by osmotic stress. Enhanced regulation of reactive oxygen species (may promote the tolerance of hull-less barley under osmotic stress. Moreover, we found that some regulators, such as GRF, PR10, MAPK, and AMPK, were centrally positioned in the gene regulatory network, suggesting that they may have a dominant role in the osmotic stress response of Tibetan barley. CONCLUSIONS Our findings highlight a subset of proteins and processes that are involved in the alleviation of osmotic stress.   • Life can be well represented by this hierarchical snapshot of its structure, although a more comprehensive view must invoke the characteristics of living, and not just life per se. V.Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease involving multiple organ systems and affecting approximately 2% of the world's population. In this guideline, we focus the discussion on systemic, non-biologic medications for the treatment of this disease. We provide a detailed discussion of efficacy and safety for the most commonly used medications-including methotrexate, cyclosporine, and acitretin-and provide recommendations to assist prescribers in initiating and managing patients on these treatments. Additionally, we discuss newer therapies, including tofacitinib and apremilast, and briefly touch upon a number of other medications, including fumaric acid esters (used outside the US) and therapies that are no longer widely used for the treatment of psoriasis, i.e. hydroxyurea, leflunomide, mycophenolate mofetil, thioguanine, and tacrolimus. Although the need for non-animal alternatives has been well recognised for the human health hazard assessment of chemicals in general, it has become especially pressing for cosmetic ingredients due to the full implementation of testing and marketing bans on animal testing under the European Cosmetics Regulation. This means that for the safety assessment of cosmetics, the necessary safety data for both the ingredients and the finished product can be drawn from validated (or scientifically-valid), so-called "Replacement methods". In view of the challenges for safety assessment without recourse to animal test data, the Methodology Working Group of the Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety organised a workshop in February 2019 to discuss the key issues in regard to the use of animal-free alternative methods for the safety evaluation of cosmetic ingredients. This perspective article summarises the outcomes of this workshop and reflects on the state-of-the-art and possible way forward for the safety assessment of cosmetic ingredients for which no experimental animal data exist. The use and optimisation of "New Approach Methodology" that could be useful tools in the context of the "Next Generation Risk Assessment" and the strategic framework for safety assessment of cosmetics were discussed in depth. IgG antibodies have been used to treat many diseases including cancer. IgG antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) deliver cytotoxic drugs to target cells for cell elimination, but they have dose limiting toxicity due to target-independent uptake, including pinocytotic uptake. Neonatal Fc receptor (FcRn) recycles pinocytosed IgG in a pH-dependent manner and is the receptor responsible for the long half-life of IgG. Use of IgG variants with stronger FcRn binding at pH 6.0 for ADCs might improve recycling efficiency and reduce toxicity. However, these variants have residual FcRn binding at pH 7.4, which could lead to FcRn-mediated uptake and higher toxicity. Thus, the uptake of such variants at pH 7.4 needs to be evaluated. Here we report a reproducible and quantitative assay using an inducible HM7 colorectal cancer cell line to measure IgG uptake at endogenous and overexpressed FcRn levels. The QA variant also had higher uptake than the WT IgG at overexpressed FcRn levels at pH 6.8. Our assay can be used to characterize the stronger FcRn binding variants to aid in selection of suitable variants with low uptake at pH 7.4 for use as ADCs. The performance of distinct serological tests (rK39-ICT, IFAT, DAT-LPC, FC-Simplex IgG1) was assessed and a laboratorial algorithm was proposed for accurate diagnosis of VL. DAT-LPC and FC-Simplex IgG1 showed outstanding accuracy (AUC = 0.93) to identify VL patients. The use of a sequential serological algorithm (rK39-ICT screening followed by DAT-LPC or FC-Simplex IgG1) improved the global accuracy for VL (97.2%) diagnosis. An alternative approach for diagnosis of VL has been also assessed for interchangeable use of serum/whole blood lysate samples in DAT-LPC and FC-Simplex IgG1. Our data showed an outstanding agreement for the results obtained with whole blood lysate samples as compared to serum samples (DAT-LPC =100%; FC-Simplex IgG1 = 99%). Together, these findings provide insights to improve the current overall accuracy of VL diagnosis and present innovative laboratorial tests and alternative samples from use in public health services. In this study, we investigated the effect of environmental sounds on ERPs during an auditory task, by having participants perform the same dual task in two different outdoor environments. Participants performed an auditory oddball task while cycling outside both in a quiet park and near a noisy roadway. While biking near the roadway, an increased N1 amplitude was observed when evoked by both standard and target tones. This may be due to attentional processes of enhancing sound processing in the noisier environment. No behavioural differences were found. Future directions include investigating auditory ERPs in more realistic studies outside of laboratory. Prior research has shown neurophysiological measures of learning yield large effect sizes, suggesting that these measures have high potential in providing insight into learning. Yet, most literature on learning and neurophysiological measures focused on a single outcome measure, neglecting the interplay between different types of measures. Additionally, it is not yet clear which measures change robustly in a way specific to the learning process. The current study assessed implicit visuomotor sequence learning through multiple neurophysiological outcome measures. In two experiments participants were presented with an arm-movement version of the Serial Reaction Time Task with blocks in which targets were selected in a repeating sequence and blocks in which targets were selected randomly. While participants were executing this task, measures of EEG, skin conductance, heart rate (variability) and respiration, in addition to measures of behavioral performance, were collected.     Life can be well represented by this hierarchical snapshot of its structure, although a more comprehensive view must invoke the characteristics of living, and not just life per se. V.Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease involving multiple organ systems and affecting approximately 2% of the world's population. In this guideline, we focus the discussion on systemic, non-biologic medications for the treatment of this disease. We provide a detailed discussion of efficacy and safety for the most commonly used medications-including methotrexate, cyclosporine, and acitretin-and provide recommendations to assist prescribers in initiating and managing patients on these treatments. Additionally, we discuss newer therapies, including tofacitinib and apremilast, and briefly touch upon a number of other medications, including fumaric acid esters (used outside the US) and therapies that are no longer widely used for the treatment of psoriasis, i.e. hydroxyurea, leflunomide, mycophenolate mofetil, thioguanine, and tacrolimus. Although the need for non-animal alternatives has been well recognised for the human health hazard assessment of chemicals in general, it has become especially pressing for cosmetic ingredients due to the full implementation of testing and marketing bans on animal testing under the European Cosmetics Regulation. This means that for the safety assessment of cosmetics, the necessary safety data for both the ingredients and the finished product can be drawn from validated (or scientifically-valid), so-called "Replacement methods". In view of the challenges for safety assessment without recourse to animal test data, the Methodology Working Group of the Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety organised a workshop in February 2019 to discuss the key issues in regard to the use of animal-free alternative methods for the safety evaluation of cosmetic ingredients. This perspective article summarises the outcomes of this workshop and reflects on the state-of-the-art and possible way forward for the safety assessment of cosmetic ingredients for which no experimental animal data exist. The use and optimisation of "New Approach Methodology" that could be useful tools in the context of the "Next Generation Risk Assessment" and the strategic framework for safety assessment of cosmetics were discussed in depth. IgG antibodies have been used to treat many diseases including cancer. IgG antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) deliver cytotoxic drugs to target cells for cell elimination, but they have dose limiting toxicity due to target-independent uptake, including pinocytotic uptake. Neonatal Fc receptor (FcRn) recycles pinocytosed IgG in a pH-dependent manner and is the receptor responsible for the long half-life of IgG. Use of IgG variants with stronger FcRn binding at pH 6.0 for ADCs might improve recycling efficiency and reduce toxicity. However, these variants have residual FcRn binding at pH 7.4, which could lead to FcRn-mediated uptake and higher toxicity. Thus, the uptake of such variants at pH 7.4 needs to be evaluated. Here we report a reproducible and quantitative assay using an inducible HM7 colorectal cancer cell line to measure IgG uptake at endogenous and overexpressed FcRn levels. The performance of distinct serological tests (rK39-ICT, IFAT, DAT-LPC, FC-Simplex IgG1) was assessed and a laboratorial algorithm was proposed for accurate diagnosis of VL. DAT-LPC and FC-Simplex IgG1 showed outstanding accuracy (AUC = 0.93) to identify VL patients. The use of a sequential serological algorithm (rK39-ICT screening followed by DAT-LPC or FC-Simplex IgG1) improved the global accuracy for VL (97.2%) diagnosis. An alternative approach for diagnosis of VL has been also assessed for interchangeable use of serum/whole blood lysate samples in DAT-LPC and FC-Simplex IgG1. Our data showed an outstanding agreement for the results obtained with whole blood lysate samples as compared to serum samples (DAT-LPC =100%; FC-Simplex IgG1 = 99%). Together, these findings provide insights to improve the current overall accuracy of VL diagnosis and present innovative laboratorial tests and alternative samples from use in public health services. In this study, we investigated the effect of environmental sounds on ERPs during an auditory task, by having participants perform the same dual task in two different outdoor environments. Participants performed an auditory oddball task while cycling outside both in a quiet park and near a noisy roadway. While biking near the roadway, an increased N1 amplitude was observed when evoked by both standard and target tones. This may be due to attentional processes of enhancing sound processing in the noisier environment. No behavioural differences were found. Future directions include investigating auditory ERPs in more realistic studies outside of laboratory. Prior research has shown neurophysiological measures of learning yield large effect sizes, suggesting that these measures have high potential in providing insight into learning. Yet, most literature on learning and neurophysiological measures focused on a single outcome measure, neglecting the interplay between different types of measures. Additionally, it is not yet clear which measures change robustly in a way specific to the learning process. The current study assessed implicit visuomotor sequence learning through multiple neurophysiological outcome measures. In two experiments participants were presented with an arm-movement version of the Serial Reaction Time Task with blocks in which targets were selected in a repeating sequence and blocks in which targets were selected randomly. While participants were executing this task, measures of EEG, skin conductance, heart rate (variability) and respiration, in addition to measures of behavioral performance, were collected. This review describes the methods currently used to prepare SLNs and NLCs with focus on solvent injection method. We summarize recent development in SLNs and NLCs production using this technique. In addition, the effects of solvent injection process parameters on SLNs and NLCs characteristics are discussed.The current study investigated the effect of hot rolling reduction rate of ultra-high strength low alloy steel manufactured via the direct quenching process on microstructure, tensile and high-cycle fatigue properties of the alloy. In order to control the reduction rate of ultra-high strength steels (UHSSs) differently, the steels were produced with two different thicknesses, 6 mm (46.2%-reduction rate, A) and 15 mm (11.5%-reduction rate, B). Then, the two alloys were directly quenched under the same conditions. Both the UHSSs showed martensite in the near surface region and auto-tempered martensite and bainite in the center region. Tensile results showed that alloy A with higher fraction of finer martensite had higher yield strength by about 180 MPa (1523 MPa) than alloy B. The alloy A was also found to possess a higher tensile strength (~2.1 GPa) than alloy B. In addition, alloy A had higher strength than B, and the elongation of A was about 4% higher than that of alloy B. High-cycle fatigue results showed that the fatigue limits of alloys A and B were 1125 MPa and 1025 MPa, respectively. This means that alloy A is excellent not only in strength but also high-cycle fatigue resistance. While targeting COL7A1 exons 10 and 73 for excision from the mature mRNA, we discovered that antisense oligomers comprised of 2'-O-methyl modified bases on a phosphorothioate backbone and phosphorodiamidate morpholino oligomers produced similar, but distinctive, splicing patterns including excision of adjacent nontargeted exons and/or retention of nearby introns in some transcripts. We found that the nonsequential splicing of certain introns may alter pre-mRNA processing during antisense oligomer-mediated exon skipping and, therefore, additional studies are required to determine if the order of intron removal influences multiexon skipping and/or intron retention in processing of the COL7A1 pre-mRNA.

    Our objective was to describe the variability of research methodology teaching among English-speaking Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada emergency medicine (RCPSC-EM) residency programs. We also aimed to identify barriers to teaching research methodology curricula.

    An electronic survey was sent by email to program directors and residents of English-speaking RCPSC-EM training programs countrywide. Reminder emails were sent after two, four, and eight weeks. Quantitative, descriptive statistics were prepared, and qualitative data and themes were identified.

    We received a total of seven responses from the possible 12 program directors (response rate = 58.3%). Out of 354 potential resident respondents, 82 (23.2%) completed the survey. There was disparity between resident and program director responses with respect to the existence of curricula, preparation for Royal College exams, and usefulness for future practice. Barriers to teaching a research methodologies curriculum included lack of time, support, educated faculty, and finances.

We examined how residents who are not currently enrolled in a competency-based program view that method of training, and what they perceive as potential advantages, disadvantages, and considerations regarding its implementation.

    Sixteen residents volunteered to participate in individual semi-structured interviews, with questions focussing on participants' knowledge of CBME and its implementation. We used a grounded theory approach to develop explanations of how residents perceive CBME.

    Residents anticipated improved assessment and feedback, earlier identification of residents experiencing difficulties in training, and greater fon will be crucial aspects of successful transitioning to CBME.

The top challenges reported by residents were feeling guilty for being away from their family, long and unpredictable work hours, sleep deprivation, and finding time to study. When female residents and program directors were matched to both school and program (

    Educational workshops help physicians (MDs) include physical activity and exercise (PAE) content in more patient appointments. It is unclear if MDs with varying degrees of confidence discussing PAE with their patients equally benefit from such training. We evaluated whether MDs' initial confidence affects the impact of an educational PAE workshop.

    MDs (
    63) across Canada completed self-reflection questionnaires initially and 3-months following a PAE workshop. MDs were divided into low-confidence [confidence score (out of 100%) <40%;
    21], medium-confidence (40-60%;
    19) and high-confidence (>60%;
    23).

    PAE counselling confidence increased in all groups (relative increase Low=~40%, Medium=~20%, High=~10%). Training increased the low-confidence group's knowledge, awareness of guidance/resources and perception of their patients' interest in lifestyle management (~30% change; all
    0.001). Compared to baseline, a greater proportion (all
    0.001) of MDs reported prescribing exercise at 3-month follow-up in each of the low-confidence (10% to 62%) medium-confidence (16% to 89%) and high-confidence (57% to 87%) groups.

Training increased the low-confidence group's knowledge, awareness of guidance/resources and perception of their patients' interest in lifestyle management (~30% change; all 0.001). Compared to baseline, a greater proportion (all 0.001) of MDs reported prescribing exercise at 3-month follow-up in each of the low-confidence (10% to 62%) medium-confidence (16% to 89%) and high-confidence (57% to 87%) groups.
