Eight female adult cats received skin- and bone-integrated pylon (SBIP) and eight male adult cats received SBIP-peripheral neural interface (PNI) pylon into the right distal tibia. The latter pylons provided PNI for connection between a powered sensing transtibial prosthesis and electrodes in residual soleus muscle and on residual distal tibial nerve. If signs of infection were absent 28-70 days after implantation, cats started wearing a passive prosthesis. We recorded and analyzed full-body mechanics of level and slope locomotion in five cats with passive prostheses and in one cat with a powered sensinP developed infection and seven cats with SBIP-PNI demonstrated poor bone integration without signs of infection. Future studies of the SBIP-PNI should focus on reliability of integration with the residuum. Ongoing study with pigs requires decreasing the extra mobility of skin and soft tissues until the skin seal is developed within the SBIP implant.

The incidence of obstructive sleep apnea in military personnel has increased over 500% since the early 2000s. Adherence to continuous positive airway pressure (PAP), an efficacious treatment, has been suboptimal. This article presents a behavioral intervention model for enhancing PAP therapy adherence and describes how the model was received by military personnel.
The study population comprised 254 out of 280 military personnel (93% men, mean age 39 years) who attended a 90-minute behavioral intervention class within the first 8 weeks of PAP use. They were coached on the Knowledge, Skills, Attitudes (KSA) model of PAP therapy success Knowledge about obstructive sleep apnea and PAP treatment; Skills to develop a habitual loop for nightly PAP use; and Attitudes that address readiness, barriers, and solutions for sustaining PAP use. Participants completed a voluntary, anonymous postclass survey that inquired of their perception of various elements of the class. Data were analyzed using descriptive statisticsesearch will assess the impact of this intervention on adherence as measured by objective indicators.
A KSA model of behavioral intervention for enhancing PAP therapy adherence was well received by participants. Future research will assess the impact of this intervention on adherence as measured by objective indicators.
During training and combat operations, military personnel may be exposed to repetitive low-level blast while using explosives to gain entry or by firing heavy weapon systems such as recoilless weapons and high-caliber sniper rifles. This repeated exposure, even within allowable limits, has been associated with cognitive deficits similar to that of accidental and sports concussion such as delayed verbal memory, visual-spatial memory, and executive function. This article presents a novel framework for accurate calculation of the human body blast exposure in military heavy weapon training scenarios using data from the free-field and warfighter wearable pressure sensors.
The CoBi human body model generator tools were used to reconstruct multiple training scenes with different weapon systems. The CoBi Blast tools were used to develop the weapon signature and estimate blast overpressure exposure. The authors have used data from the free-field and wearable pressure sensors to evaluate the framework.
Carl-Gustav and 0.50 caliber sniper training scenarios were used to demonstrate and validate the developed framework. These simulations can calculate spatially and temporally resolved blast loads on the whole human body and on specific organs vulnerable to blast loads, such as head, face, and lungs.
This framework has numerous advantages including easier model setup and shorter simulation times. The framework is an important step towards developing an advanced field-applicable technology to monitor low-level blast exposure during heavy weapon military training and combat scenarios.

There are concerns that deployment-related environmental exposures may be associated with adverse pulmonary health outcomes. Accurate pulmonary diagnosis often requires histopathological biopsy. These lung biopsies are amenable to chemical analysis of retained particulates using scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray analysis (SEM/EDXA).
A retrospective review of SEM/EDXA data collected in conjunction with pathologic diagnostic consultations at the Joint Pathology Center from 2011 to 2016 was conducted. Sections adjacent to those obtained for pathologic diagnosis were prepared for SEM/EDXA particle analysis, which provides qualitative identification of elements present in each particle and semiquantitative estimations of elemental weight percent. The review includes comparison of the particle analysis data and diagnostic findings, the particle count for the standard field analyzed, and types of particles identified.

Cough variant asthma (CVA) is one of the special populations of asthma. The aim of the study was to compare small airways, the degree of bronchial hyperresponsiveness (BHR) and airway inflammatory subtypes between CVA and classic asthma (CA), and investigate the relationship between these markers to determine the accuracy as indicators of CVA.
A total of 825 asthmatic patients participated in the study and 614 were included. 614 patients underwent spirometry and a bronchial challenge with methacholine and 459 patients performed induction sputum cell test.
Thenumber of CVA patients showed less small airway dysfunction than those of CA patients (p < 0.005). Patient safety in hospitals is being jeopardized, since too many patients experience adverse events. Most of these adverse events arise from human factors, such as inefficient teamwork and communication failures, and the incidence of adverse events is greatest in the surgical area. Previous research has shown the effect of team training on patient safety culture and on different areas of teamwork. Limited research has investigated teamwork in surgical wards. The aim of this study was to evaluate the professional and organizational outcomes of a team training intervention among healthcare professionals in a surgical ward after 6 and 12 months. Systems Engineering Initiative for Patient Safety 2.0 was used as a conceptual framework for the study.
This study had a pre-post design with measurements at baseline and after 6 and 12 months of intervention. The intervention was conducted in a urology and gastrointestinal surgery ward in Norway, and the study site was selected based on convenience and the leaders' Grade, after 12 months of intervention.
These results demonstrate that the team training program had effect after 12 months of intervention. Future studies with larger sample sizes and stronger study designs are necessary to examine the causal effect of a team training intervention in this context.

Cancer-related pain is a complicated symptom that often coincides with fatigue, depression, and anxiety. Although many safe treatments are available, inadequate control of Cancer-related pain continues to lead to suffering in cancer patients. This study's aim is to describe pain control, and the pattern of change in opioid and adjuvant medication prescriptions, before and after referral to the Palliative Care Center.
We conducted a prospective cohort study in adult cancer patients the Palliative Care Center between January 1, 2016 and December 30, 2017. We measured pain intensity and other associated symptoms via the Revised Edmonton Symptom Assessment System (ESAS-r) and documented detailed analgesics and adjuvant medication history before starting any palliative care and on days 0, 3, 6, and 14.
The analysis included 240 patients whose cancer-related pain, anxiety, and depression scores meaningfully improved by day 6. The changes in the median (interquartile ranges) of Cancer-related pain, anxiety, another symptoms scores decreased significantly, even with lower median morphine equivalent daily doses, arguably through more appropriately directed opioid use. This is evidence for the effectiveness of the comprehensive program at the Palliative Care Center in Kuwait.

Umbilical vein bacterial infections may cause liver abscesses during bacterial ascent. A single liver abscess can be surgically treated by marsupialization, but a risk of recurrence or non-healing remains. Moreover, there is no effective treatment for multiple abscesses.
A 17-day-old Holstein female calf exhibited reduced general condition, swelling and drainage of the umbilicus, and pressure sores in the area of the carpus, resulting in reluctance to stand up. The umbilicus showed pain at palpation; deep abdominal palpation indicated a swollen umbilical vein coursing from the umbilicus toward the liver. Ultrasonography confirmed a swollen umbilical vein with pus accumulation and multiple abscesses in the liver. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) examination confirmed that the swollen umbilical vein with fluid continued to the liver, and multiple unenhanced lesions, most likely abscesses, were confirmed in the liver. Partial hepatectomy was performed to remove as many abscesses as possible. For the resection, a vessel sealing device (LigaSureTM) was used to excise a part of the left liver lobe.

In December 2019, a pneumonia caused by SARS-CoV-2 emerged in Wuhan, China and has rapidly spread around the world since then. This study is to explore the patient characteristics and transmission chains of COVID-19 in the population of Gansu province, and support decision-making.
We collected data from Gansu Province National Health Information Platform. A cross-sectional study was conducted, including patients with COVID-19 confirmed between January 23 and February 6, 2020, and analyzed the gender and age of the patients. We also described the incubation period, consultation time and sources of infection in the cases, and calculated the secondary cases that occurred within Gansu for each imported case.
We found thirty-six (53.7%) of the patients were women and thirty-one (46.3%) men, and the median ages were 40 (IQR 31-53) years. Twenty-eight (41.8%) of the 67 cases had a history of direct exposure in Wuhan. Twenty-five (52.2%) cases came from ten families, and we found no clear reports of modes of transmission other than family clusters. The largest number of secondary cases linked to a single source was nine.

A whole-exome sequencing (WES) approach was used to detect novel variants. Rare novel exonic variants (minor allele frequencies MAF < 1%) were analyzed. Three web-available tools, namely, SIFT, Mutation Taster and FATHMM, were used to predict protein damage. Protein structure modeling and comparisons between reference and modified protein structures were performed by SWISS-MODEL and Chimera 1.14rc, respectively.
We detected a total of 2953 mutations in 44 ABC family transporter genes. When the MAF of loci was controlled in all databases at less than 0.01, 320 mutations were reserved for further analysis. Among these mutations, 42 were novel. We classified these loci into four groups (the damaging, probably damaging, possibly damaging, andone mutation, no mutation in ABC genes and local controls.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) occurs among patients with coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) and has also been indicated to be associated with in-hospital mortality. Remdesivir has been authorized for the treatment of COVID-19. We conducted a systematic review to evaluate the incidence of AKI in hospitalized COVID-19 patients. The incidence of AKI in different subgroups was also investigated.
A thorough search was performed to find relevant studies in PubMed, Web of Science, medRxiv and EMBASE from 1 Jan 2020 until 1 June 2020. The systematic review was performed using the meta package in R (4.0.1).
A total of 16,199 COVID-19 patients were included in our systematic review. The pooled estimated incidence of AKI in all hospitalized COVID-19 patients was 10.0% (95% CI 7.0-12.0%). The main variable was the ICH episode during the study period. Demographic, clinical, functional, cognitive and pharmacological variables were included. Descriptive and logistic regression analyses were carried out to identify the variables associated with suffering an ICH. The independent risk factors were obtained from logistic regression models, ruling out the variables included in the HAS-BLED score, to avoid duplication effects.
In December 2019, a pneumonia caused by SARS-CoV-2 emerged in Wuhan, China and has rapidly spread around the world since then. This study is to explore the patient characteristics and transmission chains of COVID-19 in the population of Gansu province, and support decision-making. We collected data from Gansu Province National Health Information Platform. A cross-sectional study was conducted, including patients with COVID-19 confirmed between January 23 and February 6, 2020, and analyzed the gender and age of the patients. We also described the incubation period, consultation time and sources of infection in the cases, and calculated the secondary cases that occurred within Gansu for each imported case. We found thirty-six (53.7%) of the patients were women and thirty-one (46.3%) men, and the median ages were 40 (IQR 31-53) years. Twenty-eight (41.8%) of the 67 cases had a history of direct exposure in Wuhan. Twenty-five (52.2%) cases came from ten families, and we found no clear reports of modes of transmission other than family clusters. This was a retrospective cohort study. We reviewed patients who underwent 1- or 2-level ACDF. The rate of subsequent surgery for pseudarthrosis was calculated for cases confirmed by computerized tomography. Patient-reported outcomes were collected at post-index surgery follow-up and post-revision ACDF follow-up. Radiographic parameters were assessed at a minimum of 1-year post-op on all patients.
Two hundred and nine patients were included 167 received allograft and 42 received PEEK. Subsidence was demonstrated in 31% of allograft and 29% of PEEK patients. There were no significant differences in clinical outcomes between allograft and PEEK groups. Clinical odarthrosis occurred in the PEEK group, but this was not statistically significant.

ALIF was performed in 5 consecutive patients (3/5 female, 2/5 male) aged 29-67 years old who presented with low **** pain and L5 radiculopathy. All patients failed conservative treatment and were treated with L4-5 and L5-S1 ALIF followed by posterior percutaneous L4-S1 pedicle screw and rod fixation. Pre- and postoperative clinical data was collected including L5-S1 posterior disk height in millimeters, millimeters of spondylolisthesis at L5-S1, degrees of segmental lordosis (L4-S1), lumbar lordosis (L1-S1), and lumbar lordosis pelvic incidencen and spondylolisthesis reduction may be associated with lower neurological injury rate compared to posterior-only. Future prospective study is needed to validate this hypothesis.

We aimed to determine whether lateral lumbar interbody fusion (LLIF) surgery in isolation is successful in restoring spinopelvic harmony, and whether the surgery maintained the relationship in those who present in a balanced state.
A retrospective radiographic analysis was performed on patients who underwent LLIF surgery, followed by posterior instrumented fusion, between January 2012 to August 2019 by a single surgeon (AD). Pre- and post-operative X-rays were reviewed by two authors using Surgimap spinal imaging 2.2.15.5. The LL, PI, and PI-LL mismatch, as well as a range of coronal and segmental sagittal radiographic parameters, were recorded.
A total of 71 patients with 170 levels treated via LLIF were analysed. A mean pre-operative PI-LL of 14.3 degrees and post-operative value of 13.4 degrees was recorded (P=0.43). Of the 41 patients who were imbalanced pre-operatively, 13 (31.7%) were restored to a LL within 10 degrees of PI post-LLIF procedure. 30 patients presented in spinopelvic harmony, and 25 (83.3%) of those maintained that relationship following LLIF. Mean coronal global Cobb angles (13.7 degrees pre-operatively to 7.7 degrees post-operatively), segmental coronal Cobb angles (3.8 to 0.9 degrees), and anterior (5.2 to 9.8 mm) and posterior (3.2 to 6.7 mm) disc heights all improved significantly post-LLIF surgery (P<0.0001).

This study aimed to investigate leaf anatomy, as well as photosynthetic gas exchange, that underlie the improvement in light foraging capacity, which appears to occur in aroid vines seeking light exposure. Three levels of plant height (soil level, 3 m and 6 m) were categorised for the aroid vine Rhodospatha oblongata Poepp. to represent the transition from ground to canopy. Compared with shaded leaves, leaves exposed to high light conditions were thicker, presenting a larger, spongy parenchyma characterised by a larger transversal area of intercellular spaces. In addition to the increase in maximum CO2 assimilation (Amax) and thicker and larger leaf lamina, we found an increased light saturation point, light compensation point and water use efficiency at 500 µmol PPFD. Nitrogen content per leaf dry mass remained constant across habitats, but Amax/N was 1.5-times greater in the canopy position than in the leaves at soil level, suggesting that CO2 gain did not rely on an N-related biochemical apparatus. The lower δ13C discrimination observed at high canopy leaves corroborated the higher photosynthesis. Altogether, these results suggest that the large and exposed aroid leaves maintained carbon gain coupled with light gain through investing in a more efficient proportion of intercellular spaces and photosynthetic cell surface, which likely allowed a less pronounced CO2 gradient in substomatal-intercellular space.

We aimed to determine the anti-inflammatory effect of alantolactone in a collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) mouse model and its immunomodulatory effects on Th17 differentiation.

This study aimed to investigate leaf anatomy, as well as photosynthetic gas exchange, that underlie the improvement in light foraging capacity, which appears to occur in aroid vines seeking light exposure. Three levels of plant height (soil level, 3 m and 6 m) were categorised for the aroid vine Rhodospatha oblongata Poepp. to represent the transition from ground to canopy. Compared with shaded leaves, leaves exposed to high light conditions were thicker, presenting a larger, spongy parenchyma characterised by a larger transversal area of intercellular spaces. In addition to the increase in maximum CO2 assimilation (Amax) and thicker and larger leaf lamina, we found an increased light saturation point, light compensation point and water use efficiency at 500 µmol PPFD. Nitrogen content per leaf dry mass remained constant across habitats, but Amax/N was 1.5-times greater in the canopy position than in the leaves at soil level, suggesting that CO2 gain did not rely on an N-related biochemical apparatus. The lower δ13C discrimination observed at high canopy leaves corroborated the higher photosynthesis. Altogether, these results suggest that the large and exposed aroid leaves maintained carbon gain coupled with light gain through investing in a more efficient proportion of intercellular spaces and photosynthetic cell surface, which likely allowed a less pronounced CO2 gradient in substomatal-intercellular space. Alantolactone, the bioactive component in L. (Asteraceae), exhibits multiple biological effects. We aimed to determine the anti-inflammatory effect of alantolactone in a collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) mouse model and its immunomodulatory effects on Th17 differentiation. A CIA mouse model was established with DBA/1 mice randomly divided into four groups ( = 6) healthy, vehicle and two alantolactone-treated groups (25 or 50 mg/kg), followed by oral administration of alantolactone to mice for 21 consecutive days after arthritis onset. The severity of CIA was evaluated by an arthritic scoring system and histopathological examination. Levels of cytokines and anti-CII antibodies as well as percentages of splenic Th17 and Th17 differentiation with or without alantolactone treatments (0.62, 1.2 or 2.5 μM) were detected with ELISA and flow cytometry, respectively. Western blot analysis was used to evaluate intracellular signalling in alantolactone-treated spleen cells. In CIA mice, alantolactone at 50 mg/kg attenuated RA symptoms, including high arthritis scores, infiltrating inflammatory cells, synovial hyperplasia, bone erosion and levels of the proinflammatory cytokines TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-17A, but not IL-10 in paw tissues. Alantolactone also reduced the number of splenic Th17 cells and the capability of naïve CD4 T cells to differentiate into the Th17 subset by downregulating STAT3/RORγt signalling by as early as 24 h of treatment. Alantolactone possesses an anti-inflammatory effect that suppresses murine CIA by inhibiting Th17 cell differentiation, suggesting alantolactone is an adjunctive therapeutic candidate to treat rheumatoid arthritis. The effects of EGCG combined with Vc and glycerol on stability and uric acid-lowering activity of EGCG were examined. EGCG (aqueous solution), EGCG + Vc (aqueous solution), EGCG (glycerol solution) and EGCG + Vc (glycerol solution) were prepared and incubated under different conditions . The recovery rate of EGCG was calculated by HPLC. Kunming mice were randomly divided into normal control group, model group, allopurinol (5 mg/kg), EGCG (10 mg/kg), EGCG + Vc (both 10 mg/kg), EGCG (10 mg/kg) + glycerol (60%), and EGCG (10 mg/kg) + Vc (10 mg/kg) + glycerol (60%) ( = 6). Allopurinol was injected intraperitoneally to mice, others were administered intragastrically to (2 cases) mice. All mice were continuously administrated for 7 days, once a day. EGCG recovery rates of EGCG group and EGCG + Vc + glycerol group respectively reached to 32.34 ± 1.86% and 98.90 ± ely increase its biology activities and can be generalized to the broader pharmacological studies. This sheds light on the development and application of EGCG in the fields of food and medicine. This study evaluated the hepatoprotective effect of kaempferol against acetaminophen (APAP)-induced liver damage and examined whether the protection involved modulation of silent information regulator 1 (SIRT1) signalling. Adult male Wistar rats were classified into four groups ( = 8) and treated as follows control + normal saline (vehicle), control + kaempferol (250 mg/kg), APAP (800 mg/kg, a single dose) and APAP + kaempferol. Kaempferol was administered for the first sevendays followed by administration of APAP. The study was ended 24 h after APAP administration. At the histological level, kaempferol reduced liver damage in APAP-treated rats. It also reduced the hepatic levels of TNF-α (66.3%), IL-6 (38.6%) and protein levels of caspase-3 (88.2%), and attenuated the increase in circulatory serum levels of ALT (47.6%), AST (55.8%) and γ-GT (35.2%) in APAP-treated rats. Prolonged intravenous (IV) treatment of six weeks duration resulted in significant clinical improvement and disease-free state at two years follow-up. This article aims to stress the importance of individualized prolonged IV treatment with liposomal amphotericin B and flucytosine despite good initial response in patients with polycythemia vera and MGUS. This review will encompass different stem cells and would emphasize PMSCs for its uniqueness in therapy that no other previously published literature reviews have taken into consideration. The present study was designed to describe the rational drug use and cost comparison analysis of PPI in a rural tertiary care hospital. METHODOLOGY A prospective observational study was performed among 253 inpatients for a period of 9 months after getting ethical approval. Those who received the PPIs for any of its indications were included in the study without any gender or age restriction. US FDA guidelines were used to analyse the appropriateness of the drug use and cost comparison analysis of the branded versus generic PPIs also performed. FINDINGS Among the 253 inpatients, the majority (62%) were male and the mean age was 46±19 years. Mean hospital stay and the number of drugs in prescription were found to be 4.0 ± 1days 4.39 ±1.16 items, respectively. Pantoprazole (76%) was the most prescribed PPI even though the majority (57%) of the patients treated outside the FDA approved indication. Drug interaction has been reported in 14% and ADR in 9% of the population. The average cost of PPI during the hospital stay estimated at 207.96±149.57 INR, and the potential cost saving of INR 41582 was observed with generic replacement. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/diphenyleneiodonium-chloride-dpi.html CONCLUSION The study inferred that irrational drug use of PPI still prevalent, that too without considering the economic impact of it on general populations. Thus, inhibition of CK2 can induce the physiological process of apoptosis leading to tumor cell death. OBJECTIVE Selecting natural inhibitors toward the target enzyme using database mining. METHOD With our continuous effort to discover new compounds with CK2 inhibitory effect, several commercial natural databases were searched using molecular modeling approach and the selected compounds were evaluated in vitro. RESULT Three compounds were selected as candidates and evaluated in vitro using holoenzyme and their effect on three cancer cell lines was performed. Unfortunately, the selected candidates were weak inhibitors toward the target enzyme, and only one compound showed moderate cell viability effect on cancer cells. CONCLUSION Several natural databases were screened and compounds were selected and tested in vitro, despite of the unexpected low activity of the compounds, this study can help in directing the search of potent CK2 inhibitors and better understand the binding requirements of the ATP competitive inhibitors. Accurate brain tumor classification and segmentation from MR images provide an essential choice for medical treatments. The different objects within an MR image have similar size, shape, and density which makes the tumor classification and segmentation even more complex. OBJECTIVES Classification of the brain MR images into tumorous and non-tumorous using deep features and different classifiers to get higher accuracy. METHODS In this study, a novel four-step process is proposed; pre-processing for image enhancement and compression, feature extraction using convolutional neural networks (CNN), classification using the multilayer perceptron and finally, tumor segmentation using enhanced fuzzy c-means method. RESULTS The system is tested on 65 cases in four modalities consisting of 40,300 MR Images obtained from the BRATS-2015 dataset. These include images of 26 Low-Grade Glioma (LGG) tumor cases and 39 High-Grade Glioma (HGG) tumor cases. The proposed CNN features-based classification technique outperforms the existing methods by achieving an average accuracy of 98.77% and a noticeable improvement in the segmentation results are measured. CONCLUSION The proposed method for brain MR image classification to detect Glioma Tumor detection can be adopted as it gives better results with high accuracies. Many drugs have limited effectiveness and/or toxic side effects because of a failure to selectively target the disease-causing mutant variant, rather than the functional wild type protein. Otherwise, the drugs may even target different proteins with similar structural features. Designing drugs that successfully target mutant proteins selectively represents a major challenge. Decades of cancer research have led to an abundance of potential therapeutic targets, often touted to be "master regulators". For many of these proteins, there are no FDA-approved drugs available; for others, off-target effects result in dose-limiting toxicity. Cancer-related proteins are an excellent medium to carry the story of mutant-specific targeting, as the disease is both initiated by and sustained by mutant proteins; furthermore, current chemotherapies generally fail at adequate selective distinction. This review discusses some of the challenges associated with selective targeting from a structural biology perspective, as well as some of the developments in algorithm approach and computational workflow that can be applied to address those issues.

Accurate brain tumor classification and segmentation from MR images provide an essential choice for medical treatments. The different objects within an MR image have similar size, shape, and density which makes the tumor classification and segmentation even more complex. OBJECTIVES Classification of the brain MR images into tumorous and non-tumorous using deep features and different classifiers to get higher accuracy. METHODS In this study, a novel four-step process is proposed; pre-processing for image enhancement and compression, feature extraction using convolutional neural networks (CNN), classification using the multilayer perceptron and finally, tumor segmentation using enhanced fuzzy c-means method. RESULTS The system is tested on 65 cases in four modalities consisting of 40,300 MR Images obtained from the BRATS-2015 dataset. These include images of 26 Low-Grade Glioma (LGG) tumor cases and 39 High-Grade Glioma (HGG) tumor cases. The proposed CNN features-based classification technique outperforms the existing methods by achieving an average accuracy of 98.77% and a noticeable improvement in the segmentation results are measured. CONCLUSION The proposed method for brain MR image classification to detect Glioma Tumor detection can be adopted as it gives better results with high accuracies. We reviewed 10 years of NICU admissions to two tertiary PICUs, which had approximately 12,000 admissions during that period.
Sixty-seven infants, gestational age at birth 34.7 (IQR 27.1-38.8) weeks and postnatal age on transfer 81 (IQR 9-144) days were admitted from NICUs. The median (IQR) length of stay was 12 (4-41) days. The 19 infants born <28weeks of gestation had a greater median length of stay (32, range IQR 10-93days) than more mature born infants (7.5, IQR 4-26days) (p=0.003). Atypical forms such as hypervascular HCC without washout, isovascular or even hypovascular HCC can pose diagnostic dilemmas. In such cases, it is important to consider also the appearance of the nodules on diffusion-weighted imaging and hepatobiliary phase. In this regard, diffusion restriction and hypointensity on hepatobiliary phase are suggestive of malignancy. If both findings are present in hypervascular lesion without washout, or even in iso- or hypovascular lesion in cirrhotic liver, HCC should be considered. Buddhist walking meditation (BWM) is widely practiced in many countries. However, there is a lack of evidence relating to its effectiveness for patients with heart failure (HF).
To determine the effects of a six-week BWM program on exercise capacity, quality of life, and hemodynamic response in patients with chronic HF.
Patients with HF were randomly assigned to a BWM program or an aerobic exercise program. Each group trained at least three times a week during the six-week study period. The outcome measures included exercise capacity (six-minute walk test), disease-specific quality of life (Minnesota Living with Heart Failure Questionnaire), and hemodynamic response (blood pressure and heart rate) immediately after the six weeks of training.
The study enrolled 48 patients with a mean age of 65 years and a New York Heart Association functional class of II and III. At baseline, there were no significant differences in their clinical and demographic characteristics or the outcome measures. Although six patients withdrew, all participants were included in the intention-to-treat analysis. There was no statistically significant increase in the functional capacity of the BWM group; however, there was a significant improvement for the aerobic group. With both groups, there was no significant improvement in quality of life or most hemodynamic responses.

Morphological differentiation among blasts circulating in blood in acute leukaemia is challenging. Artificial intelligence decision support systems hold substantial promise as part of clinical practise in detecting haematological malignancy. This study aims to develop a deep learning-based system to predict the diagnosis of acute leukaemia using blood cell images.
A set of 731 blood smears containing 16,450 single-cell images was analysed from 100 healthy controls, 191 patients with viral infections and 148 with acute leukaemia. Training and testing sets were arranged with 85% and 15% of these smears, respectively. To find the best architecture for acute leukaemia classification VGG16, ResNet101, DenseNet121 and SENet154 were evaluated. Fine-tuning was implemented to these pre-trained CNNs to adapt their layers to our data. Once the best architecture was chosen, a system with two modules working sequentially was configured (ALNet). The first module recognised abnormal promyelocytes among other mononucleara predictive model designed with two serially connected convolutional networks. It is proposed to assist clinical pathologists in the diagnosis of acute leukaemia during the blood smear review. It has been proved to distinguish neoplastic (leukaemia) and non-neoplastic (infections) diseases, as well as recognise the leukaemia lineage.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, a significant number of patients have required hospital admission to tertiary referral centres for concomitant mechanical ventilation and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Nevertheless, the management of ventilated patients on circulatory support can be quite challenging. Therefore, we sought to review the management of these patients based on the analysis of haemodynamic and energetic parameters using numerical simulations generated by a software package named CARDIOSIM©.
New modules of the systemic circulation and ECMO were implemented in CARDIOSIM© platform. This is a modular software simulator of the cardiovascular system used in research, clinical and e-learning environment. The new structure of the developed modules is based on the concept of lumped (0-D) numerical modelling. Different ECMO configurations ha effects induced by concomitant mechanical ventilation and circulatory support. Based on our clinical experience during the COVID-19 pandemic, numerical simulations may help clinicians with data analysis and treatment optimisation of patients requiring both mechanical ventilation and circulatory support.

Considering the complexity and uncertainty of doctors' manual segmentation of cerebral vessels, this paper proposed an automatic segmentation algorithm based on Multiple-U-net (M-U-net) to segment cerebral vessel structures from the Time-of-flight Magnetic Resonance Angiography (TOF-MRA) data.
First, the TOF-MRA data was normalized by volume and then divided into three groups through slices of axial, coronal and sagittal directions respectively. Three single U-nets were trained by divided dataset.
