Certain species of macaques are natural hosts of Plasmodium knowlesi and Plasmodium cynomolgi, which can both cause malaria in humans, and Plasmodium inui, which can be experimentally transmitted to humans. A significant number of zoonotic malaria cases have been reported in humans throughout Southeast Asia, including Thailand. There have been only two studies undertaken in Thailand to identify malaria parasites in non-human primates in 6 provinces. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of P. knowlesi, P. cynomolgi, P. inui, Plasmodium coatneyi and Plasmodium fieldi in non-human primates from 4 new locations in Thailand.
A total of 93 blood samples from Macaca fascicularis, Macaca leonina and Macaca arctoides were collected from four locations in Thailand 32 were captive M. fascicularis from Chachoengsao Province (CHA), 4 were wild M. fascicularis from Ranong Province (RAN), 32 were wild M. arctoides from Prachuap Kiri Khan Province (PRA), and 25 were wild M. leonina from Nakornratch a new natural host for P. knowlesi, P. inui, P. coatneyi and P. fieldi.

Species of the Tabanidae are potent vectors of human and animal diseases, but they have not been thoroughly investigated to date. In Senegal (West Africa), little information is available on these dipterans. Our objective in this study was to investigate Senegalese tabanids and their diversity by using molecular and proteomics approaches, as well as their associated pathogens.
A total of 171 female tabanids were collected, including 143 from Casamance and 28 from Niokolo-Koba. The samples were identified morphologically by PCR sequencing and by MALDI-TOF MS, and PCR analysis was employed for pathogen detection and blood-meal characterization.
The morphological identification revealed four species concordantly with the molecular identification Atylotus fuscipes (79.5%), Tabanus guineensis (16.4%), Chrysops distinctipennis (3.5%) and Tabanus taeniola (0.6%) (not identified by PCR). The molecular investigation of pathogens revealed the presence of Trypanosoma theileri (6.6%), Leishmania donovani (6.6%), Seabanids in Senegal could be vectors of several pathogens threatening animal and public health. To fully characterize these dipterans, it is therefore necessary that researchers in entomology and infectiology employ molecular characterization and mass spectrometric techniques such as MALDI-TOF MS to analyse these dipterans in Senegal and West Africa.
In a time of ageing populations, examination of the ability of multimorbid patients to achieve well-being has become increasingly important. Social production function theory is used to characterise people's ability to achieve well-being. Whereas **** research has examined the fulfilment of substantive needs, far less research has investigated the quality of production functions (being in control, avoiding a loss frame, and efficiency) to achieve well-being. Therefore, this study involved the development and validation of the Social Production Function-Quality of production functions (SPF-Q) instrument to assess the quality of production functions via the fulfilment of production needs to achieve well-being.
The 12-item SPF-Q was used to assess the quality of production functions via the fulfilment of production needs to achieve well-being among patients with multimorbidity from seven health care practices in the region of Tilburg, the Netherlands. A total of 216 patients filled in the questionnaire (55% on needs among multimorbid patients. Given that multimorbidity is becoming the leading threat to population health, such an instrument can help to improve the ability to achieve well-being in this vulnerable population.
This study clearly showed that the SPF-Q is a valid and reliable instrument for the assessment of production needs among multimorbid patients. In this case we discuss the management of a pediculated floating thrombus in the aortic arch which led to peripheral embolization and acute ischemia oft he left leg.
A healthy 46 year old female patient presented with pain in her left leg and progressive numbness. Computed Tomography Angiography (CTA) showed an acute ischemia of the left leg (Rutherford 2 B) with a 2 cm thrombus distal of the aortic bifurcation. Emergency operation with embolectomy, selective thrombembolectomy and patch plasty on the tibioperoneal trunk and local lysis was performed. As part of a further diagnostic examination a thoracic CT scan has been performed revealing a pediculated-floating 2 cm thrombus in the aortic arch. Four days after the initial operation thrombus excision via a minimally invasive access way has been performed. After initiation of the extracorporeal circulation, selective unilateral antegrade cerebral perfusion has been established in mild (30-32 °C) systemic hypothermia. Patients postoperative course was uneventful. Histological evaluation of the mass demonstrated thrombotic material without evidence of infection or malignacy.

To the best of our knowledge, this is the first documented selection of this cost-effective treatment of ocular surface squamous neoplasia (the use of absolute ethanol along the corneal margin, primary excision, double freeze-thaw cryopexy, and primary conjunctival closure) for an undocumented and uninsured New York City patient.

A slit-lamp examination of the left eye demonstrated a nasally located conjunctival mass measuring 6 × 8 mm extending onto the cornea (3 mm superiorly and 6 mm inferiorly on the cornea). Recent studies concerning supply chain management have shown that topics such as supply chain risk management (SCRM) and supply chain resilience (SCRes) are the new trends in supply chain management. Initial studies in the early 2000s developed frameworks to identify, measure and mitigate risks and assess/evaluate the degree of resilience of a company or supply chain. Recently, a large variety of studies has emerged, including more conceptual and review studies as well as more sophisticated, quantitative studies. However, studies on human-related factors are still lacking, and there is no systematic method to answer questions such as "What literature is available concerning human factors related to SCRM and SCRes?", "Which human factors contribute to SCRes?" and "Which human factor can amplify SC Risks?"
The main goal of this paper is to conduct a systematic literature review to identify human factors that impact supply chain resilience and supply chain risk management.
This study was performed using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) method. The objective of using this review protocol is to ensure that the review has the minimum amount of bias due to research expectations.
This study highlighted a summary of human-related risk and resilience factors as well as a discussion about these preliminary findings.
As our main conclusion, we highlight that human factors may generate significant risks in the supply chain, nevertheless, there are other human factors that must be nourished to obtain SCRes.

Psychosocial stress at work is an important issue among hospital attendants.
This study aimed to examine psychosocial stressors in the work environment and assess their impacts on WMSD symptoms among hospital attendants in Shiraz, southern Iran.
This cross-sectional study was conducted on 198 hospital attendants from Shiraz. The study data were collected using a basic demographic questionnaire, Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ), the Persian version of Effort-Reward Imbalance Questionnaire (F-ERIQ), and an individual risk assessment (Evaluación del Riesgo Individual [ERIN]). The data were entered into SPSS version 16 and analyzed using Mann-Whitney U, Chi-square, and Spearman's correlation tests.
The prevalence of WMSD symptoms was 29.8% in the lower ****, 25.3% in knees, and 20.7% in ankles/feet. Posture analysis by the ERIN technique demonstrated that 95.5% of the postures were high risk for WMSDs. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/verubecestat.html F-ERIQ identified that 83.4% of the hospital attendants belonged to the "1 < ER-ratio" category. The need for qualified employees in wineries leads to a gain in importance of human resource management in the wine industry. Knowledge on job satisfaction of employees in wineries and cooperatives as well as research in human resource management is rare.
The aim of this qualitative study is to find aspects affecting job satisfaction of employees in Austrian and German wineries. These identified aspects were analysed with regard to the perceived satisfaction or dissatisfaction of the employees.
Sixteen qualitative interviews were conducted in Austria and Germany with employed winemakers, production managers and vineyard managers.
Aspects of job satisfaction which were found in agricultural studies were validated for employees in wineries. In addition to these influencing factors of job satisfaction, interviewed workers mentioned other important aspects, such as equality issues, development of the company and attachment to the final product, which affect their job satisfaction.
The positive image of the product wine, the wine sector and the profession contributes to a high job satisfaction overall. The personal interest in wine is one of the major factors of job satisfaction. It reduces dissatisfaction with remuneration, monotonous work processes and long working hours. However, employees in wineries saw problems in reconciling family life and work. Furthermore, employees complained about physical strains leading to possible changes in job or position.

Physical activity level and quality of life were assessed with the short-form of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAq) and World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL), respectively. Student t test and Chi-square were carried out to evaluate mean gender comparations and frequency, respectively.

The study included 98 RA patients and 53 matched controls; they were interviewed, clinically examined, their visual analogue scales (VAS) were reported, and then blood samples were withdrawn for erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), complete blood count (CBC), and C-reactive protein (CRP). Platelet indices (PIs) were obtained from the CBC including Plt (platelet count), mean platelet volume (MPV), platelet distribution width (PDW) and plateletcrit (PCT). Results revealed perfect matching between patients and controls as regarding age and gender. ESR, CRP and PDW were significantly higher in patients than controls; also positive n patients than controls and correlated with DAS28 of the patients. Furthermore the new score could identify RA patients from healthy subjects (cut off value less then -0.79) and stratified RA patients according to their disease activity into low, intermediate, high, or in remission. Conclusively, we developed a more precise, easily obtained new DAS for RA. This new DAS has both diagnostic/prognostic values in patients with RA.

Such phenotyping, alongside other behavioral, digestive, and metabolic measures, can help to determine biomarkers of goats' capacity to adapt to diets of higher nutritive value and to increase production performance without compromising their health status. Quantifying the capacity of goats to buffer the effect of highly fermentable diets helps to better adapt feed to animals in precision livestock farming. This procedure is generic and can be adapted to any indicator of animal health and performance. In particular, several indicators can be combined to assess multi-performance, which is of major interest in the context of selection for robust animals.Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common and malignant cancer of the central nervous system, and radiotherapy is widely applied in GBM treatment; however, the sensitivity to radiotherapy varies in different patients. According to in vitro studies, resultant scaffolds promoted new blood vessel formation as well as cardiomyogenic phenotype expression of ADSCs. Cardiac muscle-specific genes were expressed from stem cells and peripheral blood vessels from HUVECs were also successfully developed in subcutaneously implanted cell-laden multiscale scaffolds. Nineteen dogs at the end of the 19-week chemotherapy protocol (8 Complete Response and 11 Progressive Disease) were evaluated for serum SEVs size, concentration and screened for 95 oncomirs. PD patients had higher SEVs concentration at the diagnosis than CR patients (P = 0.034). The ROC curve was significant for SEVs concentration to predict the response to CHOP (AUC = 0.8011, P = 0.0287). A potential molecular signature based on oncomirs from SEVs (caf-miR-205, caf-miR-222, caf-mir-20a and caf-miR-93) is proposed.

To determine the best control technology for dioxin in waste incineration flue gas, a three-level comprehensive evaluation index system with environment, economy, and technology as the first-level indexes was constructed. The fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method and the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) were used to evaluate ten dioxin pollution control technologies or technology groups including "double bag activated carbon adsorption technology," "sulfur and sulfide inhibition technology," and "sulfur and sulfide inhibition technology+activated carbon fixed bed reactor technology". The "sulfur and sulfur compound inhibition technology+activated carbon fixed bed technology" scored the highest, and thus is currently the best control technology for dioxin pollution in waste incineration exhaust gas. This technology is suitable for small rural waste incinerators to ensure that dioxin emissions meet the standards. Depending on the local economic development level, enterprise scale, furnace profile, and technological process, waste incineration enterprises in various regions of China can adopt this index evaluation system and method to evaluate the dioxin control technologies and select the best one suitable for the enterprise so that dioxin emissions in the waste incineration flue gas can be effectively controlled.The ammonia emissions inventory of Zhejiang Province was established in 2017 using the activity data of various ammonia emission sources, emission factors, and an estimation method. Ammonia emissions for each source and city in Zhejiang Province were analyzed. The spatial distribution and intensity of ammonia emissions in 2017 were mapped using ArcGIS software. The total anthropogenic ammonia emissions in Zhejiang Province in 2017 were 122.00 kt. The farmland ecosystem was the major source of total ammonia emissions (36.06 kt), and nitrogen fertilizer applications was the largest contributor in this category (87.12%), followed by the livestock and poultry source (29.44%). The waste and human-activity sources were the two major non-agricultural sources, accounting for 44.07% and 28.49%, respectively. Hangzhou City had the highest ammonia emissions in 2017, accounting for 17.83% of the total ammonia emissions in Zhejiang Province. However, the ammonia emission intensity in Jiaxing City was the highest, reaching 3.82 t ·km-2. The spatial distribution map revealed that ammonia emissions in the northern and southeastern Zhejiang were relatively higher, while ammonia emission intensity was higher in the northern and northeastern region.This study updates a bottom-up high-resolution emission inventory and estimates the concentrations, emission factors, emissions, and performance values of China's power plants, based on the data from continuous emission monitoring systems and environmental statistics in 2018. The results show that the ultra-low emission policy has significant effects the average concentrations of SO2, NO x , and PM in thermal power plants were 37.57, 56.71, and 7.41 mg ·m-3, respectively in 2018, which were 58.71%, 43.12%, and 60.79% lower than those in 2015. The average emission factors of SO2, NO x , and PM from coal-fired units in China were 0.3, 0.48, and 0.06 g ·kg-1, respectively, which were 55.2%, 36.84%, and 62.5% lower than those in 2015. The total emissions of SO2, NO x , PM, and PM2.5in thermal power plants were 721.4, 1183.8, 149.0, and 135.9 kt ·a-1, respectively, down by 41.32%, 19.29%, 48.12%, and 40.39% from 2015.In recent years, there have been frequent ozone pollution episodes in Dezhou, China. In the summer of 2018 (from June to August), Dezhou experienced serious ozone pollution episodes. The daily 8-hour maximum ozone concentrations exceeded the national standard for 60 days with the standard exceeding ratio of 65%. The average of daily 8-hour maximum ozone concentration was 176 μg ·m-3 over these three months, and the highest value reached was 262 μg ·m-3. In this study, the WRF-CAMx model coupled with the higher-order decoupled direct method (HDDM) was used to analyze the ozone sensitivity and emission control plans in Dezhou during this period. The results showed that ozone formation was in the strong VOC-limited regime in the urban area of Dezhou, while it was in the NO x and VOCs transition regime in suburban areas. VOCs sensitivity values (dO3_V50) were positive every day in summer, which was higher in June (18.7 μg ·m-3 in urban area, 19.7 μg ·m-3 in suburban area) and August (15.3 μg ·m-3 in urban area, 16.4 μg ·m-3 in suburban area) than in July (13.0 μg ·m-3 in urban area, 11.8 μg ·m-3 in suburban area). NO x sensitivity values (dO3_N50) were positive or negative in the urban area, and most days were positive in the suburban area, which were close to the VOCs sensitivity values. To determine the best control technology for dioxin in waste incineration flue gas, a three-level comprehensive evaluation index system with environment, economy, and technology as the first-level indexes was constructed. The fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method and the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) were used to evaluate ten dioxin pollution control technologies or technology groups including "double bag activated carbon adsorption technology," "sulfur and sulfide inhibition technology," and "sulfur and sulfide inhibition technology+activated carbon fixed bed reactor technology". The "sulfur and sulfur compound inhibition technology+activated carbon fixed bed technology" scored the highest, and thus is currently the best control technology for dioxin pollution in waste incineration exhaust gas. This technology is suitable for small rural waste incinerators to ensure that dioxin emissions meet the standards. Depending on the local economic development level, enterprise scale, furnace profile, and technological process, waste incineration enterprises in various regions of China can adopt this index evaluation system and method to evaluate the dioxin control technologies and select the best one suitable for the enterprise so that dioxin emissions in the waste incineration flue gas can be effectively controlled.The ammonia emissions inventory of Zhejiang Province was established in 2017 using the activity data of various ammonia emission sources, emission factors, and an estimation method. Ammonia emissions for each source and city in Zhejiang Province were analyzed. The spatial distribution and intensity of ammonia emissions in 2017 were mapped using ArcGIS software. The total anthropogenic ammonia emissions in Zhejiang Province in 2017 were 122.00 kt. The farmland ecosystem was the major source of total ammonia emissions (36.06 kt), and nitrogen fertilizer applications was the largest contributor in this category (87.12%), followed by the livestock and poultry source (29.44%). The waste and human-activity sources were the two major non-agricultural sources, accounting for 44.07% and 28.49%, respectively. Hangzhou City had the highest ammonia emissions in 2017, accounting for 17.83% of the total ammonia emissions in Zhejiang Province. However, the ammonia emission intensity in Jiaxing City was the highest, reaching 3.82 t ·km-2. The spatial distribution map revealed that ammonia emissions in the northern and southeastern Zhejiang were relatively higher, while ammonia emission intensity was higher in the northern and northeastern region.This study updates a bottom-up high-resolution emission inventory and estimates the concentrations, emission factors, emissions, and performance values of China's power plants, based on the data from continuous emission monitoring systems and environmental statistics in 2018. The results show that the ultra-low emission policy has significant effects the average concentrations of SO2, NO x , and PM in thermal power plants were 37.57, 56.71, and 7.41 mg ·m-3, respectively in 2018, which were 58.71%, 43.12%, and 60.79% lower than those in 2015. The average emission factors of SO2, NO x , and PM from coal-fired units in China were 0.3, 0.48, and 0.06 g ·kg-1, respectively, which were 55.2%, 36.84%, and 62.5% lower than those in 2015. The total emissions of SO2, NO x , PM, and PM2.5in thermal power plants were 721.4, 1183.8, 149.0, and 135.9 kt ·a-1, respectively, down by 41.32%, 19.29%, 48.12%, and 40.39% from 2015.In recent years, there have been frequent ozone pollution episodes in Dezhou, China. In the summer of 2018 (from June to August), Dezhou experienced serious ozone pollution episodes. The daily 8-hour maximum ozone concentrations exceeded the national standard for 60 days with the standard exceeding ratio of 65%. The average of daily 8-hour maximum ozone concentration was 176 μg ·m-3 over these three months, and the highest value reached was 262 μg ·m-3. In this study, the WRF-CAMx model coupled with the higher-order decoupled direct method (HDDM) was used to analyze the ozone sensitivity and emission control plans in Dezhou during this period. The results showed that ozone formation was in the strong VOC-limited regime in the urban area of Dezhou, while it was in the NO x and VOCs transition regime in suburban areas. VOCs sensitivity values (dO3_V50) were positive every day in summer, which was higher in June (18.7 μg ·m-3 in urban area, 19.7 μg ·m-3 in suburban area) and August (15.3 μg ·m-3 in urban area, 16.4 μg ·m-3 in suburban area) than in July (13.0 μg ·m-3 in urban area, 11.8 μg ·m-3 in suburban area). NO x sensitivity values (dO3_N50) were positive or negative in the urban area, and most days were positive in the suburban area, which were close to the VOCs sensitivity values. The study included 106 incident patients from the Swedish Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension Registry, treated with phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors for ≥90 days, who were not at a pre-specified treatment goal, i.e. in World Health Organisation functional class III, with 6-min walking distance 165-440 m, and N-terminal prohormone of brain natriuretic peptide >300 ng/L. Changes in World Health Organisation functional class, 6-min walking distance, N-terminal prohormone of brain natriuretic peptide, and risk group between index and follow-up were assessed. Of patients with complete follow-up data, (n = 53) 77% were on combination therapy and risk assessment yielded 98% at intermediate risk at index. At follow-up, 11 patients transitioned from World Health Organisation functional class III to World Health Organisation functional class II, the median (Q1; Q3) change in 6-min walking distance was 6 (-30; 42) meters and in N-terminal prohormone of brain natriuretic peptide 47 (-410; 603) ng/L, while 89% remained at an intermediate risk. These patients were compared to 17 age- and gender-matched normal controls. Load-adjusted right ventricle function was quantified as the ratio of right ventricle stroke work index to pulmonary arterial elastance. All patients with pulmonary hypertension had reduced peak VO2 %predicted compared to controls. Right ventricle function deteriorated for all pulmonary hyle function during exercise training.Practice guidelines suggest that treatment decisions in pulmonary arterial hypertension be informed by periodic assessment of patients' clinical risk. In our survey, non-physicians compared with physicians cited two major barriers to increased tool use lack of education and training (20% vs. 4%) and lack of clarity on the best tool to use (30% vs. 18%). However, no data exists on the utilization of balloon atrial septostomy as a palliative intervention to wean from extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) when all other therapies are exhausted. Here we describe a case series of two pediatric patients with severe pulmonary arterial hypertension, requiring ECMO support, who were successfully weaned from ECMO following balloon atrial septostomy.

Since their approval in Germany in June 2019 e‑scooters have become increasingly more popular; however, with growing popularity and easy access for everybody the number of accidents has increased, sometimes even resulting in severe injuries.
The purpose of this study was to collect demographic data and analyze injury patterns of accidents due to e‑scooter use in a large German city and to give suggestions on future safety concepts and rules of conduct.
All patients who presented at the interdisciplinary emergency room of the Klinikum rechts der Isar, University hospital of the Technical University in Munich between 1 July 2019 and 1 April 2020 after suffering an e‑scooter accident were included in this study. Demographic data as well as information with respect to the trauma mechanism were prospectively collected.
During the study period 60patients were identified of which 34(56.7%) were male with an average age of 34.7years (range 18-73years) at the time of the accident. Of the patients 22rode the e‑scooter under the influence of alcohol and only 1 wore ahelmet. The head was the most injured body region, followed by the upper and lower extremities and 2 (3.3%) patients were severely injured with an injury severity score (ISS) ≥16.
Due to the growing popularity of e‑scooter use more injuries have been registered. The head was the most affected body region, therefore emphasis should be put on wearing ahelmet. Furthermore, strict rules and more police controls should take place to identify and reduce the number of accident victims under the influence of alcohol.

Several biological markers have been studied for the differentiation of infection from disease activity in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients with discrepant results. We aimed to evaluate the role of serum presepsin, hs-CRP, procalcitonin (PCT), and copeptin (CPP) in differentiating bacterial infections from disease activity in SLE patients.
This study is a cross-sectional observational study in which 94 Egyptian patients were recruited from June 2017 to January 2018. Our patients were divided into two groups group (1) included 48 patients with active SLE hospitalized with any sort of lupus activity and group (2) included 46 patients with active SLE admitted with a proven bacterial infection. Hs-CRP, presepsin, PCT, and CPP were measured using enzyme-linked immune sorbent assay technique.
Hs-CRP, presepsin, PCT, and CPP were highly significantly higher among group (2) patients compared to group (1) patients (p < 0.001). Serum presepsin expressed higher specificity than hs-CRP (87.5% vs 60.4%n and PCT levels are useful in differentiating bacterial infections from disease activity in SLE patients. • Serum Presepsin expressed higher specificity than hs-CRP but the same sensitivity in the detection of bacterial infection in SLE patients. • Serum CPP expressed higher specificity than hs-CRP but lower sensitivity.
Bowel dysfunction is common after anterior resection for colorectal cancer (CRC). Pelvic floor rehabilitation (PFR) may improve functional outcomes after surgery. This review aimed to evaluate the efficacy of PFR for patients with bowel symptoms after anterior resection.
MEDLINE, CINHAL, PUBMED, EMBASE, Scopus, PsycINFO, Web of Science, PEDRO and Cochrane Library were searched from inception to June 2019. A final search was performed on 11 July 2020. Randomised controlled trials (RCTs), cohort studies, case-control studies and case series of bowel dysfunction after CRC surgery and PFR were eligible for review. Outcome measures were bowel function changes measured by patient-reported outcomes and manometric measurement. Risk of bias assessments using Methodological Index for Non-Randomized Studies (MINORS) tool and Newcastle Ottawa Scale (NOS) were conducted.
Eleven trials met eligibility criteria four retrospective studies and seven prospective, non-randomised controlled studies. A total of 516 participants were included, of which 455 received PFR. Functional outcomes were measured by bowel functional outcome questionnaires, patient diary, anorectal manometry and three studies measured quality of life. Faecal incontinence was improved in seven studies, and bowel frequency also decreased in five studies. The mean MINORS score was 10 (8-13) out of 16 in non-comparative groups and 18 (16-22) out of 24 in comparative groups; the NOS was 4.2 (3-7) out of 9. The overall risk of bias was high in most studies.

Enzymatic recycling of PET has been a route of increasing study aiming at to recover its monomers (terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol), resulting in a circular production chain. In this study, investigation of pH control and fractionation of enzyme feeding were explored in post-consumed PET (PC-PET) hydrolysis reactions catalyzed by Humicola insolens cutinase (HiC) in stirred reactors. Bowel dysfunction is common after anterior resection for colorectal cancer (CRC). Pelvic floor rehabilitation (PFR) may improve functional outcomes after surgery. This review aimed to evaluate the efficacy of PFR for patients with bowel symptoms after anterior resection. MEDLINE, CINHAL, PUBMED, EMBASE, Scopus, PsycINFO, Web of Science, PEDRO and Cochrane Library were searched from inception to June 2019. A final search was performed on 11 July 2020. Randomised controlled trials (RCTs), cohort studies, case-control studies and case series of bowel dysfunction after CRC surgery and PFR were eligible for review. Outcome measures were bowel function changes measured by patient-reported outcomes and manometric measurement. Risk of bias assessments using Methodological Index for Non-Randomized Studies (MINORS) tool and Newcastle Ottawa Scale (NOS) were conducted. Eleven trials met eligibility criteria four retrospective studies and seven prospective, non-randomised controlled studies. A total of 516 participants were included, of which 455 received PFR. Functional outcomes were measured by bowel functional outcome questionnaires, patient diary, anorectal manometry and three studies measured quality of life. Faecal incontinence was improved in seven studies, and bowel frequency also decreased in five studies. The mean MINORS score was 10 (8-13) out of 16 in non-comparative groups and 18 (16-22) out of 24 in comparative groups; the NOS was 4.2 (3-7) out of 9. The overall risk of bias was high in most studies. PFR appears to be beneficial for improving bowel function after anterior resection for CRC. Interprofessional simulation-based education (IPSE) contributes to a transformation in students' understanding of teamwork and professional roles. We hypothesized that a progressive interprofessional education simulation program incorporating both faculty and interprofessional student collaboration would improve medical students' knowledge retention, comfort with procedural skills, positive teamwork and respectful interaction between students.An Obstetrics and Gynecology IPSE for medical and nursing students (NS) was developed in collaboration between a school of medicine and a school of nursing from 2014 to 2017. By 2017, content includedFrom 2014 to 2016, medical students completed attitude, knowledge, and perception surveys both pre and immediately post simulation, atthe students.Although sedation for bronchoscopy improves patient comfort, there is a risk of oversedation in elderly patients. Only a few studies have evaluated the efficacy and safety of sedation for bronchoscopy in elderly patients.This study retrospectively analyzed records of 210 patients who underwent transbronchial brushing and/or biopsy under midazolam sedation at National Hospital Organization Omuta National Hospital between June 2017 and October 2019. Patients were administered 1 mg midazolam following 10 mL 4% lidocaine inhalation. When sedation was insufficient, 0.5 mg midazolam was administered additionally. Diagnostic yield, incidence of complications, amount of oxygen supplementation, decreases in percutaneous oxygen saturation (SpO2), changes in blood pressure, and degree of comfort were analyzed.Patients were divided into the elderly (n = 102) and non-elderly (n = 108) groups. No significant differences were observed in diagnostic yield and procedure time between the 2 groups, and no severe adverse events were noted in the elderly group. The degree of comfort during bronchoscopy was significantly higher in the elderly group. In patients administered less then 2 mg midazolam, the amount of oxygen supplementation and decreases in SpO2 were significantly smaller in the elderly group compared to the non-elderly group.The risk of adverse events related to midazolam sedation in bronchoscopy does not increase with age, and sedation improves comfort during flexible bronchoscopy in elderly patients. Moreover, a total dose of midazolam less then 2 mg is safe for elderly patients undergoing bronchoscopy.

Metallic trace elements (MTEs) soil pollution has become a worldwide concern, particularly regarding its impact on earthworms. Earthworms, which constitute the dominant taxon of soil macrofauna in temperate regions and are crucial ecosystem engineers, are in direct contact with MTEs. The impacts of MTE exposure on earthworms, however, vary by species, with some able to cope with high levels of contamination. We combined different approaches to study the effects of MTEs at different levels of biological organisation of an earthworm community, in a contaminated urban wasteland. Our work is based on field collection of soil and earthworm samples, with a total of 891 adult earthworms from 8 species collected, over 87 quadrats across the study plot. We found that MTE concentrations are highly structured at the plot scale and that some elements, such as Pb, Zn, and Cu, are highly correlated. Comparing species assemblage to MTE concentrations, we found that the juvenile and adult abundances, and community composition, were significantly affected by pollution. Along the pollution gradient, as species richness decreased, Lumbricus castaneus became more dominant. We thus investigated the physiological response of this species to a set of specific elements (Pb, Zn, Cu, and Cd) and studied the impacts of MTE concentrations at the plot scale on its population genetic. In this study, three CHCs were produced by infusing different clays to poplar-sawdust-derived hydrochar, including a bentonite hydrochar composite (BTHC), montmorillonite hydrochar composite (MTHC), and kaolinite hydrochar composite (KTHC). These three CHCs were applied to a paddy soil column system growing rice. The temporal variations in NH3 volatilization and NH4+ loss in floodwater were monitored after three fertilization dates. The results showed that among the three CHCs, only the BTHC significantly reduced cumulative NH3 volatilization (by 41.8%), compared to that of the unamended control (without addition of hydrochar or clay-hydrochar-composite). In the unamended control, NH3 volatilization loss accounted for 31.4% of the applied N fertilizer; with the BTHC amendment, NH3 volatilization loss accounted for 17.4% of the applied N fertilizer. The reduced N loss via the BTHC amendment resulted in an increased N supply and further improved the N use efficiency and yield by 37.36% and 18.8% compared to that of the control, respectively. The inhibited NH3 volatilization was mainly attributed to the increased soil NH4+ retention as a result of BTHC's larger pore volume and specific surface area. In addition, the BTHC treatment significantly reduced the abundance of archaeal amoA genes (AOA), which possibly inhibited nitrification and increased soil NH4+ retention. This study, for the first time, screened BTHC as an excellent material for mitigating NH3 volatilization from paddy fields. The reduced NH3 volatilization loss might contribute to increased soil N retention and plant N use efficiency. In Thailand, onshore drill cuttings (DC) contaminated with total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) are currently transported off-site for incineration, causing high transportation cost and potential leakage to the environment. To address the issues, we develop solvent-based washing as a greener alternative for onshore DC remediation, focusing on solvent selection, washing process optimization, and solvent recovery. The results showed that ethyl lactate (EL) was the best green solvent for DC washing, compared to water, ethylene glycol, and ethyl acetate. Based on response surface methodology assisted with central composite design, the maximum TPH removal of 87.1% was achieved from 4 mL g-1 liquid-to-solid ratio, 14 min washing time, and 80 rpm stirring speed, and the TPH removal rate by EL fitted well with the second-order reaction (R2 = 0.9774). Furthermore, the spent EL was successfully recycled by simple and low-energy adsorption using granular activated carbon (GAC). With the sufficient GAC dosage, TPH could be completely removed from the spent EL without impairing the original EL properties. Moreover, the recycled EL exhibited its successful reuse in the subsequent DC washing process. These findings suggest that solvent washing accompanied with solvent recovery by adsorption could be a novel and greener remedial scheme for onshore DC management. Antibiotics, ARGs, and heavy metals had shown inconsistent results for anaerobic digestion and composting. The different composting processes either declined or completely removed the blaCTX-M, intl1 and oqxB genes. In addition, composting processes decreased the absolute abundance of aac6'-Ib and aadA genes, while increased the absolute abundance of qnrD, sul1, and tet(A) genes. On the other hand, anaerobic digestion of chicken manure increased the absolute abundance of ere(A) and tet(A). High throughput sequencing showed that Firmicutes, Proteobacteria, Bacteroidetes, and Actinobacteria dominated the total bacterial composition of composted and anaerobically digested samples. Network analysis revealed the co-occurrence of ARGs and intl1. The redundancy analysis showed a significant correlation between some heavy metals and ARGs. Similarly, the bacterial composition showed a positive correlation with the prevalence of ARGs in treated manure. These findings suggest that bacterial community, heavy metals, and mobile genetic elements can play a significant role in the abundance and variation of ARGs during composting and anaerobic digestion.
