  • The ferroelectric field-effect transistors (FeFETs) based on graphene/ferroelectric (Gr/FE) hybrid systems have been attracting a lot of attention in recent years. The interface interaction and charge transfer between graphene and the ferroelectric substrates are important factors that determine the performance of graphene-based FeFETs. According to our intuitive sense, the electrostatically doped carriers in graphene on the ferroelectric positive and negative surfaces should be n-type and p-type, respectively. In the present work, however, by employing first-principles density functional theory (DFT) calculations, we reveal that an unusual charge doping effect occurs in graphene on the thermodynamically preferred ferroelectric BiAlO3(0001) polar surfaces. The graphene on the BiAlO3(0001) positive surface is electrostatically doped p-type, while the BiAlO3(0001) negative surface induces n-type carriers in the graphene overlayer. Further analysis demonstrates that, although the electrostatic doping effect in the Gr/FE system depends on the polarization direction of the ferroelectric substrate, the resultant carrier type and density in graphene are determined by the specific band arrangement between graphene and the ferroelectric polar surface. In addition to the graphene-based FeFETs, our results predict that the Gr/BiAlO3(0001) systems can be used to fabricate graphene p-n homojunctions by engineering the domain pattern in the ferroelectric substrate.A hydroxyl-enriched highly crystalline TiO2 suspensible photocatalyst was synthesized via a facile ethanol-controlled hydrolysis and following an in situ crystallization method. Various glass compositions in combination with a wide range of natural and synthetic polymers have been evaluated in vivo under experimental conditions ranging from unloaded critical-sized defects to mechanically-loaded, weight-bearing sites with highly favourable outcomes. Additional possibilities include controlled release of anti-osteoporotic drugs, ions, antibiotics, pro-angiogenic substances and pro-osteogenic substances. Histological and morphological evaluations suggest the formation of new, highly vascularised bone that displays signs of remodelling over time. With the possibility to tailor the mechanical and chemical properties through careful selection of individual components, as well as the overall geometry (from mesoporous particles and micro-/nanospheres to 3D scaffolds and coatings) through innovative manufacturing processes, such biomaterials present exciting new avenues for bone repair and regeneration.A carbon nanotube/nanofiber (CNT/CNF) composite is applied as a cathode substrate to develop a high-loading polysulfide cathode (8.64 mg cm-2, 68 wt% sulfur). Here, we report the case of a 31-year-old male with widespread, highly inflammatory Hurley Stage II HS in multiple locations who failed to respond to any kind of established medical treatment, including biologics. As an alternative approach, Ustekinumab was maintained, and additionally the patient was treated with LAight therapy, a combination of intense pulsed light and radiofrequency. After 10 sessions, deroofing of multiple lesions was performed in a two-step process. After a few weeks of healing time accompanied by specialized wound experts, the patient continued with LAight therapy to control and prevent recurrence. This case shows that the combination of LAight therapy and deroofing is a promising treatment plan for the long-term symptom control of mild and moderate HS.

  • Seclusion is considered a necessity when alternatives have failed. There is a consensus that seclusion has no therapeutic benefit, which justifies efforts to reduce the practice. This study aimed to identify nurse and patient variables that are predictive of seclusion on a large adolescent inpatient unit.

    Nested case controls were used to compare 72 afternoon shifts on which seclusion occurred to 216 afternoon shifts on which no seclusion occurred, between 2010 and 2013, at an Adolescent Psychiatric Inpatient Unit.

    Increased seclusion was predicted by a lower nurse to patient ratio, more male nurses on shift, fewer female nurses on shift, the presence of agency/temporary nurses on shift, greater combined years of mental health experience, and lower total HoNOSCA behavior subscale score. Unique predictors that increased risk of seclusion included greater number of male nurses and the presence of agency/temporary nurses, while a greater number of female nurses decreased risk of seclusion.

    Nurses play a unique role in seclusion outcomes that are separate to patient-factors and act as both protective and risk factors for seclusion. Changes can be made to staffing to reduce seclusion and future research should investigate why these nurse-factors contribute to seclusion.

    The antibiotic concentration in abdominal drainage fluid is very important for the treatment of patients with severe acute pancreatitis (SAP). Previous studies show that quinolones and carbapenems have high abdominal tissue levels, whereas aminoglycosides fail to penetrate into abdominal tissue in sufficient concentrations. However, there are limited data with respect to vancomycin. This case aims to investigate the penetration of vancomycin to abdominal drainage fluid in a 44-year-old SAP patient.

    We report a case of a 44-year-old female with SAP, on treatment of vancomycin. The time courses of vancomycin concentration in plasma and abdominal drainage fluid of the patient were described. Simultaneous measurement of abdominal drainage fluid and serum concentrations demonstrated that vancomycin can rapidly penetrate into abdominal tissue in acceptable amounts.

In this secondary analysis, we examine the effectiveness of PMHC among clients presenting with symptoms of social anxiety disorder (SAD) and/or agoraphobia on core symptoms at 6- and 12-month follow-up.

These two vectors were then used in developmental simulations to extend the ontogenetic trajectories of adult chimpanzees. Allometric trajectories of chimpanzees and gorillas were also directly compared using Procrustes ANOVA.

  • These results are very important in promoting our understanding of the effects of molecular fractionation on the biogeochemical features, behaviors, and implications of DOM in the environment.Despite the ever-growing endangerment caused by the multidrug resistance (MDR) of bacteria, the development of effective antibacterial materials still remains a global challenge. Current antibiotic therapies cannot simultaneously inactivate bacteria and accelerate wound healing. This study aimed to originally separate the intercalation of MnO3+ and the oxidation processes to synthesize epoxy-rich graphene oxide (erGO) nanofilms via an eco-friendly synthetic route, which possessed low density and large lamellar distribution and was rich in epoxide. Importantly, the MnO3+ could be separated from the product and recycled for preparing the next generation of erGO nanofilms, which was quite economical and eco-friendly. The erGO nanofilm was capable of successfully inhibiting Gram-negative bacteria and even had excellent growth-inhibitory effects on Gram-positive bacteria including multidrug resistance (MDR) bacteria, as evidenced by antibacterial phenomena. Additionally, the erGO nanofilm with high •C density formed from epoxide exerted excellent antibacterial effects through tight membrane wrapping and induction of lipid peroxidation. The wound-healing property of the erGO nanofilm was evaluated via treatments of wounds infected by Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Escherichia coli (E. coli), which not only killed bacteria but also accelerated wound healing in **** with a skin infection. Current antibiotic therapies cannot simultaneously inactivate bacteria and accelerate wound healing. This study aimed to originally separate the intercalation of MnO3+ and the oxidation processes to synthesize epoxy-rich graphene oxide (erGO) nanofilms via an eco-friendly synthetic route, which possessed low density and large lamellar distribution and was rich in epoxide. Importantly, the MnO3+ could be separated from the product and recycled for preparing the next generation of erGO nanofilms, which was quite economical and eco-friendly. The erGO nanofilm was capable of successfully inhibiting Gram-negative bacteria and even had excellent growth-inhibitory effects on Gram-positive bacteria including multidrug resistance (MDR) bacteria, as evidenced by antibacterial phenomena. Additionally, the erGO nanofilm with high •C density formed from epoxide exerted excellent antibacterial effects through tight membrane wrapping and induction of lipid peroxidation. METHODS AND FINDINGS We performed a two-sample bidirectional MR using summary statistics from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of BMI (with up to 173,430 individuals) and PCOS (4,386 cases and 8,017 controls) in East Asian populations. Seventy-eight single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) correlated with BMI were selected as genetic instrumental variables to estimate the causal effect of BMI on PCOS using the inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method. To test the reliability of the results, further sensitivity analyses included MR-Egger regression, weighted median estimates, and leave-one-out analysis. The IVW analysis indicated a significant association between high BMI and the risk of PCOS (odds ratio (OR) per-SD higher BMI, 2.208; 95% Confidence interval (CI) 1.537 to 3.168, P=1.77×10-5). In contrast, the genetic risk of PCOS had no significant effect on BMI. CONCLUSIONS The results of our bidirectional MR study showed that an increase in BMI causes PCOS, while PCOS does not cause an increased BMI. METHODS We reviewed inpatients with isolated doubly committed subarterial ventricular septal defect aged less then 18 years who underwent surgical repair or device occlusion between January 2011 and December 2017. Propensity score matching was used to assemble a cohort of patients with similar baseline characteristics. RESULTS A total of 336 patients underwent surgical repair; 99 underwent device occlusion. After matching, the repair group included 164 patients, whereas the device group had 91 patients. There were no significant differences in the baseline characteristics. The median follow-up periods were 46 and 58 months for the device and repair groups, respectively. No significant difference was noted in the rates of cumulative adverse events in the 2 groups (7.9% vs 5.5%; P = 0.61). The repair group required longer periods of hospitalization (P = 0.002) and mechanical ventilation (P = 0.016). No grade 3 or higher valvular regurgitation or high-degree atrioventricular block events were observed. All patients were in sinus rhythm at the last follow-up examination. CONCLUSIONS In selected patients with doubly committed subarterial ventricular septal defect, compared with conventional repair, perventricular device occlusion has comparable efficacy and safety, less invasiveness in terms of time in the hospital and on mechanical ventilation and avoidance of cardiopulmonary bypass. © The Author(s) 2020. We immediately converted to a median sternotomy and established cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). The patient's condition was stable; aneurysmectomy and left-down lobectomy were successfully performed. Results of the 2-year follow-up were favourable. Generally, rubella is an infection of mild course among children but in the case of pregnant women, who are not immunized, the probability of the occurrence of severe congenital abnormalities (congenital rubella syndrome) may amount to 95%. The strategy of the countries belonging to the WHO European Region is directed to the interruption of the rubella virus transmission in the environment in order to prevent the cases of congenital rubella syndrome (CRS).

However, although people with learning disabilities are high users of general health services, staff have little understanding of learning disability with a negative effect on patient experience and outcomes. This article explores some of the challenges experienced by people with learning disabilities in the emergency department (ED). Each section focuses on a different aspect of how to adjust the delivery of healthcare to meet their needs, along with exercises to ensure those adjustments have been understood and to provide practical learning outcomes. Personal stories are also used to identify examples of when and where these adjustments could have been used to provide equal healthcare in the ED.
    In the paediatric emergency department (PED), it is important to correctly prioritize children for physician assessment. The pediatric early warning score (PEWS), although not a triage tool, is often used for PED triage. The scandinavian Rapid Emergency Triage and Treatment System-pediatric (RETTS-p) is a reliability tested triage tool. We aimed to compare PEWS and RETTS-p in a Norwegian PED.

    An educational intervention study.

    All the first-year students in the bachelor programme (N=493) were entered into a database and randomly assigned to the intervention or the control group in a course in bioscience. The outcome measures are the proportion of students who passed the examination, and the distribution of grades from A to E. Chi-square tests and Mann-Whitney Wilcoxon test were used. The odds to pass versus fail were modelled using binary logistic regression.

    The proportion of students who did not pass the final examination was very similar in the intervention and the control groups, 21.4% and 23.6% (p=.574).     This mixed-methods study sought professionals' views on nurses' involvement, competency and engagement in monitoring patients for adverse effects of medicines, monitoring adherence, prescribing and patient education.

    An online survey and interviews were undertaken with nurses, doctors and pharmacists in Wales and England, May 2018 to July 2019.

    In all, 220 nurses, 17 doctors and 62 pharmacists responded to the online survey, and 24 professionals were interviewed. Nurses were divided over extending their roles, with 123/220 (55.9%) wishing to extend roles in monitoring patients for possible adverse drug reactions (ADRs), 111/220 (50.5%) in adherence monitoring, 121/220 (55.0%) in prescribing and 122/220 (55.4%) in patient education. The best-qualified nurses were the most willing to increase involvement in monitoring patients for ADRs (aOR 13.00, 1.56-108.01). Interviews revealed that both nurses and doctors assumed the other profession was undertaking this monitoring.

However, although people with learning disabilities are high users of general health services, staff have little understanding of learning disability with a negative effect on patient experience and outcomes. This article explores some of the challenges experienced by people with learning disabilities in the emergency department (ED). Each section focuses on a different aspect of how to adjust the delivery of healthcare to meet their needs, along with exercises to ensure those adjustments have been understood and to provide practical learning outcomes.   • Ovarian cancer is poorly treatable due, at least in part, to induced drug resistance to taxol- and cisplatin-based chemotherapy. Recent studies showed that ectopic overexpression of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) in ovarian cancer cells leads to upregulation of the androgen receptor (AR) and transactivation of taxol resistance genes, thereby causing chemoresistance. In the present study, we examined the signaling pathways involving TLR4 and interleukin 6 (IL-6) that enhance AR expression. Based on transcriptomic analysis, we show that IL-6 functions as a hub gene among the upregulated genes in taxol-treated TLR4-overexpressing ovarian cancer cells. Both the TLR4 activator taxol and IL-6 can induce AKT phosphorylation, whereas TLR4 knockdown or inhibition of the IL-6 signal transducer GP130 abrogates AKT activation. Furthermore, expression of AR and IL-6 is downregulated in TLR4-knockdown, taxol-resistant cells. In addition, TLR4 knockdown inhibits GP130 and IL-6 receptor alpha (IL6Rα) activities, indicating that TLR4 plays a critical role in IL-6 signaling. On the other hand, nuclear translocation of AR is induced by IL-6 treatment, whereas knockdown of endogenous IL-6 reduces AR and TLR4 expression in taxol-resistant ovarian cancer cells. These results indicate that TLR4 and IL-6 play a crucial role in AR gene regulation and function. This chapter will summarize current knowledge on the prevalence, diagnosis, and pathobiology of viral keratitis. Virus-mediated immunomodulation of host innate and adaptive immune components is critical for viral persistence, and dysfunctional immune responses may cause destruction of ocular tissues leading to keratitis. Immunosuppressed or immunocompromised individuals may display recurring disease with pronounced severity. Early diagnosis of viral keratitis is beneficial for disease management and response to treatment.

It is commonly described as coursing posterior to the mandibular condyle and over the posterior zygomatic root (PZR) and then dividing terminally into parietal and frontal branches. However, possible variations of the main trunk of the STA have seemingly been overlooked. This study retrospectively examined the archived head tomography angiograms of 43 patients to determine the morphology and topography of the STA prior to its terminal bifurcation. In 79% of patients, the STA topography related to the mandibular condyle was bilaterally symmetrical, either retrocondylar (65.1%) or laterocondylar (13.6%). The parietal branch was sometimes absent unilaterally (16.3%) or bilaterally (9.3%). In 2/43 cases, the frontal branch of the STA was unilaterally absent. When both terminal branches were present, the bifurcation was retrocondylar or immediately above the PZR when on the PZR, or the terminal division of the STA was high above the PZR. In 88.4% of the STAs, different patterns of kinking and coiling were documented, including retrocondylar kinks (27.9%), laterocondylar kinks (20.9%), kinks placed on the PZR (81.4%) and variably oriented suprazygomatic kinks (32.6%). Five of the 86 STAs were coiled, one retrocondylar, one laterocondylar, and three other placed on the PZR.     This study aimed to evaluate the relationships between chronic otitis media (COM) and the characteristics of Auditory tube (Eustachian) angle (ATa), tubotympanic angle (TTa), and Körner's septum (KS).

    A retrospective research was conducted between January 2019 and October 2019. The computed tomography (CT) results and medical files of 210 patients were evaluated. According to CT results and medical files, the patients were evaluated regarding the presence of COM, KS, ATa, and TTa.

    There were 113 (53.81%) males and 97 (46.19%) females in the study group, and the mean age of the patients was 42.05 ± 10.77years. The frequency of the KS was significantly higher in patients who were diagnosed with COM (35.66% vs. 7.41%, p < 0.001). The patients diagnosed with COM were found to have a narrower ATa and a wider TTa than the patients who were not diagnosed with COM. ATa was narrower and TTa was wider in patients with KS. The presence of KS and higher TTa value were considered as risk factors for COM (p < 0increased TTa and the presence of KS were associated with increased risk for COM.
    The purpose of this study was to determine the palatal bone and soft tissue thicknesses using a miniscrew-supported maxillary skeletal expander (MSE) in Class III malocclusion.

    The thicknesses of the palatal bone and soft tissue were measured in cone-beam computed tomography images obtained from 58 patients. All 20 points were crossing points between five levels, which were defined at 3mm intervals relative to the line connecting the central fossae of the first molar (Level 0), and 2mm and 4mm lateral to the anteroposterior reference line (AP line).

    The palatal bone was significantly thicker in males than females in the anterior palate up to Level 0, while there was no significant sex-related difference in the posterior palate. There was a tendency for the thickness to decrease in the posterior direction, except in females at 2mm lateral to the AP line. The palatal soft tissue was significantly thicker in males than females in all positions. At 2mm lateral to the AP line, the palatal soft tissue thickness decreased in the posterior direction. A 4mm lateral to the AP line, it initially decreased in the posterior direction, and then increasing again at Level - 6 (6mm posterior of Level 0). As the lateral distance from the AP line increased, the palatal bone thickness decreased while the palatal soft tissue thickness increased.

The proposed classification scheme aims to become a valuable and easy to use tool in the hands of all physicians involved in diagnosis and treatment of aortic arch pathology. It could be also useful in anatomical education, as well.The superficial temporal artery (STA) is a terminal branch of the external carotid artery. It is commonly described as coursing posterior to the mandibular condyle and over the posterior zygomatic root (PZR) and then dividing terminally into parietal and frontal branches. However, possible variations of the main trunk of the STA have seemingly been overlooked. This study retrospectively examined the archived head tomography angiograms of 43 patients to determine the morphology and topography of the STA prior to its terminal bifurcation. In 79% of patients, the STA topography related to the mandibular condyle was bilaterally symmetrical, either retrocondylar (65.1%) or laterocondylar (13.6%). The parietal branch was sometimes absent unilaterally (16.3%) or bilaterally (9.3%). In 2/43 cases, the frontal branch of the STA was unilaterally absent. When both terminal branches were present, the bifurcation was retrocondylar or immediately above the PZR when on the PZR, or the terminal division of the STA was high above the PZR. In 88.4% of the STAs, different patterns of kinking and coiling were documented, including retrocondylar kinks (27.9%), laterocondylar kinks (20.9%), kinks placed on the PZR (81.4%) and variably oriented suprazygomatic kinks (32.6%). Five of the 86 STAs were coiled, one retrocondylar, one laterocondylar, and three other placed on the PZR. Two cases showed unilateral pseudoaneurysms of the STA, one above the PZR and the other on the temporomandibular joint. The STA is surgically important; therefore, the number of anatomical studies of the STA should increase. This study aimed to evaluate the relationships between chronic otitis media (COM) and the characteristics of Auditory tube (Eustachian) angle (ATa), tubotympanic angle (TTa), and Körner's septum (KS). A retrospective research was conducted between January 2019 and October 2019. The computed tomography (CT) results and medical files of 210 patients were evaluated. According to CT results and medical files, the patients were evaluated regarding the presence of COM, KS, ATa, and TTa. There were 113 (53.81%) males and 97 (46.19%) females in the study group, and the mean age of the patients was 42.05 ± 10.77years. The frequency of the KS was significantly higher in patients who were diagnosed with COM (35.66% vs. 7.41%, p < 0.001). The patients diagnosed with COM were found to have a narrower ATa and a wider TTa than the patients who were not diagnosed with COM. ATa was narrower and TTa was wider in patients with KS. The presence of KS and higher TTa value were considered as risk factors for COM (p < 0increased TTa and the presence of KS were associated with increased risk for COM. The purpose of this study was to determine the palatal bone and soft tissue thicknesses using a miniscrew-supported maxillary skeletal expander (MSE) in Class III malocclusion. The thicknesses of the palatal bone and soft tissue were measured in cone-beam computed tomography images obtained from 58 patients. All 20 points were crossing points between five levels, which were defined at 3mm intervals relative to the line connecting the central fossae of the first molar (Level 0), and 2mm and 4mm lateral to the anteroposterior reference line (AP line). The palatal bone was significantly thicker in males than females in the anterior palate up to Level 0, while there was no significant sex-related difference in the posterior palate. There was a tendency for the thickness to decrease in the posterior direction, except in females at 2mm lateral to the AP line. The palatal soft tissue was significantly thicker in males than females in all positions. At 2mm lateral to the AP line, the palatal soft tissue thickness decreased in the posterior direction. A 4mm lateral to the AP line, it initially decreased in the posterior direction, and then increasing again at Level - 6 (6mm posterior of Level 0). As the lateral distance from the AP line increased, the palatal bone thickness decreased while the palatal soft tissue thickness increased. These findings provide quantitative data on the palatal bone and soft tissue thicknesses for the miniscrew-supported MSE in the posterior palate. A nomogram model based on multivariate logistic models was generated. The retrieved thrombi were stained with hematoxylin and eosin and assessed according to histological composition. Our results demonstrated that age ≥ 72 years was independently associated with poor outcome. A total of 304 participants completed the follow-up data to generate the nomogram model. After multivariate logistic regression, five variables remained independent predictors of outcome, including older age, hemorrhagic transformation, thrombolysis in cerebral infarction score, National Institute of Health Stroke score, and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, and were used to generate the nomogram. The area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve of the model was 0.803. The clots from elderly subjects with large-artery atherosclerosis, anterior circulation, and successful recanalization groups had a higher percentage of fibrin compared to those of younger patients. This is the first nomogram to be developed and validated in a stroke center cohort for individualized prediction of poor outcome in elderly patients after mechanical thrombectomy.   • Cells and their surrounding microenvironment exist in dynamic reciprocity, where bidirectional feedback and feedforward crosstalk drives essential processes in development, homeostasis, and disease. With the ongoing explosion of customizable biomaterial innovation for dynamic cell culture, an ever-expanding suite of user-programmable scaffolds now exists to probe cell fate in response to spatiotemporally controlled biophysical and biochemical cues. Here, we highlight emerging trends in these efforts, emphasizing strategies that offer tunability over complex network mechanics, present biomolecular cues anisotropically, and harness cells as physiochemical actuators of the pericellular niche. Altogether, these material advances will lead to breakthroughs in our basic understanding of how cells interact with, integrate signals from, and influence their surrounding microenvironment.The precise determination of the neurotransmitter dopamine's conformational preferences in aqueous solution is crucial for understanding its neurobiological function. The relationship between wavelength and periodicity contributed to the changing diffraction angle through the change of the refractive index (1.642). Increasing the sugar concentration (25-175 mg) in the syrup increased the diffraction efficiency of these holograms. The added amount of sugar in the composition increased the refractive index (7%) and decreased the light absorption (12.9%), which influenced the change of diffraction angle by 4.4°. The surface holograms displayed wideband visual diffraction of light extending from violet to red wavelengths. It was found that PDA particles could be easily deposited on a PTFE membrane and the two types of solid slippery surfaces, which resulted in the alternation of their surface wettability and slippery behavior of water droplets. Adhesion was detected between a PDA-coated silica colloidal probe and the PTFE membrane or solid slippery surfaces through quantitative force measurements using an atomic force microscope (AFM), mainly due to van der Waals (vdW) and hydrophobic interactions, which led to the PDA deposition phenomenon. In contrast, LI-PTFE with a thin liquid lubricant film could effectively prevent PDA deposition, with negligible changes in surface morphology, wettability, and slippery characteristics. Although PDA particles could be loosely attached to the lubricant/water interface for LI-PTFE based on the capillary adhesion measured by AFM, they could be readily removed by gentle rinsing with water, as demonstrated by the ultralow friction over LI-PTFE as compared to PTFE using lateral force microscopy (LFM). Our results indicate that LI-PTFE possesses excellent antifouling and self-cleaning properties even when interacting with the versatile PDA wet adhesives. Glass surfaces reflect about 4-5% of incident light if no antireflective coating is applied. In addition to energy losses in displays, surface reflections diminish picture quality. Engineering of antireflective coatings can be beneficial for all types of glass screens, specifically for large screens and touch-screen devices when scratch-resistance and self-cleaning properties of the glass surface are also desired. A scalable and robust approach to produce antireflective coatings for glass surfaces with desired optical and mechanical properties is introduced in this work. The developed coating mimics the structure of a moth-eye cornea. The coating is a subwavelength-microstructured thin layer on the glass surface made of a monolayer of hemispherical silica nanoparticles obtained by hydrothermal fusion of spherical particles to the glass substrate.

In contrast, LI-PTFE with a thin liquid lubricant film could effectively prevent PDA deposition, with negligible changes in surface morphology, wettability, and slippery characteristics. Although PDA particles could be loosely attached to the lubricant/water interface for LI-PTFE based on the capillary adhesion measured by AFM, they could be readily removed by gentle rinsing with water, as demonstrated by the ultralow friction over LI-PTFE as compared to PTFE using lateral force microscopy (LFM). Our results indicate that LI-PTFE possesses excellent antifouling and self-cleaning properties even when interacting with the versatile PDA wet adhesives. This work provides new insights into the deposition of PDA on slippery surfaces and their interaction mechanism at the nanoscale, with useful implications for the design and development of novel slippery surfaces.The vast majority of light-emitting diode and liquid-crystal displays, solar panels, and windows in residential and industrial buildings use glass panels owing to their high mechanical stability, chemical resistance, and optical properties. Glass surfaces reflect about 4-5% of incident light if no antireflective coating is applied. In addition to energy losses in displays, surface reflections diminish picture quality. Engineering of antireflective coatings can be beneficial for all types of glass screens, specifically for large screens and touch-screen devices when scratch-resistance and self-cleaning properties of the glass surface are also desired. A scalable and robust approach to produce antireflective coatings for glass surfaces with desired optical and mechanical properties is introduced in this work. The developed coating mimics the structure of a moth-eye cornea. The coating is a subwavelength-microstructured thin layer on the glass surface made of a monolayer of hemispherical silica nanoparticles obtained by hydrothermal fusion of spherical particles to the glass substrate.
